you can't learn anything from his teaching, its the most pointless 3 hours and 10 minutes a week I have ever had to sit through!
he is getting better. at first his lectures were all over the place. now he has become a bit more structured. also very funny.

Very popular teacher. Incredibly funny. Warning: will ask you to buy him a porsche. Lectures sometimes go all over the place, but very helpful if you pay attention.
terrible with accounting....and if he flew through those slides any faster...i knew a lot of kids from the other accounting prof, and they said he was much better than when they switched into sheps class...
hella funny teacher, even though his class does get boring at times...
Just cuz he has a CPA, doesnt mean he could teach... every lecture is same old pointless
Yes, the class is crazy boring. And he does fly through the slides (thats why your supposed to read the book before class). But if you gain his respect he's the best contact you could make. He's a great guy, and I'm sure he'll get his porsche one day.:)
His classes are challenging, and you should read before each lecture. But gain his respect, get a few A's in his classes, then he'll make sure you end up with a highly-coveted job after college. And all he'll want in return is a... Porsche.
he's the best. he makes sure that you get a job after u graduate..and he's the only reason i got an internship with KPMG this summer!! we love you BOB
i never read the text and didnt go to class that much. i got A's for 10b &111a and B's for 110 and 111b. u can do his exams if u do his old exams and work on the hw probs he gives to review before exams. all the hw prob answers are on his website
Bob makes the class fun..and how can u make accounting fun?! STUDY what the he gives in the review, copy the homework online, attend class or have someone take ur "quiz"/ attendance, and study the old test. You'll be fine.
Very lenient and knows his accounting, though he goes through his lecture too quickly and robotically. Not necessarily a great teacher, but a good person.
He really knows his stuff but the lectures were extremely boring. All you have to do for an A is take his attendence quizes, copy the HW off the internet, and study the old tests.
Absolutely flies through the material, but the time allotted for this class was shorter than it should have been. Tests aren't bad and if he doesn't know your name by heart, you are as irrelevent to him as he is to you. what a hellish class.
He has humor. Yet his class would sometimes get boring. He seems to have a systematic way of teaching, which drags-on sometimes. Reading other students' advice about homework and tests gives you a clear idea. So I won't repeat their comments. Overall, great professor.
I really like Bob. His lectures can be a bit dull, but he does his best and he is funny. Overall a very good professor that I'd recommend.
Accounting with a lunatic who doesnt realize that most of the people in his class have no plans of pursuing a career in accounting. What more can i say ? Accounting has really gotten him somewhere in life eh? a BMW and a teaching position twice a week where he can make retarded jokes...
For those looking at an easy GE- don't take this series. For those looking at a career in Econ or Accounting- his courses are a must. He combines real world with academic theory, and has a good sense of humor. If you go to Toastmasters and ask him a lot of questions, he'll remember you well.
10a and 10b were really easy, but 110, 111a and 111b were miserable! It gets much more difficult the further you go in the series with him. I agree he's not a very good teacher at all, but he does help you try to get jobs with the big 4 firms. Tom (tax) & Scott (advanced) are way better.
senile, old man who is becoming more and more bitter over the years. he's become very stingy about giving information on what to study for the tests and tries to screw you over as much as possible. lectures arent worth your time- he flies through them. he helped me get a job...thats about it. ive intro'd myself to him 3 times. does he remember? no

Unfortunately, in all of his classes you don't effectively learn accounting. You basically memorize what you need to know to get a grade, and then he eventually helps hook you up with a job. I'll give him points for humor. My advice: take the first 2 classes again somewhere else if you really want to learn it to get an accounting job.
You must enjoy accounting...lol I landed a job out of college (not big 4) getting paid 68,000. Get to know Bob, go to Toastmasters, study, and get on. WTF, it's hard? Maybe you should attend a CSU, not a UC if you don't want to study!

Bob presents the material in a way to prepare you for the CPA exam, sometimes the class gets boring though. His sherberts are always fun :P

The TA's for bob are usually really helpful, if you participate and get decent grades he usually hooks it up in the Academic Reference, and internship department... that's if you're on a first name basis with him. Ohh, and he's straight forward; he will te

Bob.. hook me up with a job at the big four
Best professor at UCSC
Sit in front of the class, so you'll won't get distracted. Get to know him and ask questions. He's friendlier one-on-one and will explain further. As for the accounting material, it helps to rewrite things over and over until you remember.
bob is the man. take his classes.
He's a great guy, but he speeds through lectures...so you gotta teach yourself...but he'll definitly inform you of job opportunities and his sherberts make time go by faster!!! He's got a possy 2 so watch what you say around students...they'll rat on you...jk...but seriously!!!

Very Funny, Great Professor (don't fall asleep in class, he will see you)
Was disappointed to hear a TA straight out telling a student an answer to the test while I was leaving the midterm. Was also disappointed to learn that he caught 3 people cheating after they turned in their finals and just gave them a warning (letting them keep their A's). So much for integrity and a fair chance. A nice guy, if you really want to get on his good side join Toastmasters.
Hard ass class, If you don't study at all you are going to get owned since his lectures are extremely boring.
He makes accounting sexy!
good teacher, just talk to him if yur having a hard time..he'll cut you some slack.
He is a good guy and is interested in his students. The lectures don't help at all, but by studying the book, it is somewhat easy to get an A. I would recommend taking him. :)
Accounting! Bob is the best there is! Highly recommended! He's super funny, nice, and he cares about your future. Advice: You need to actually real the book and do the problems or lecture won't make any sense.
nothing much to say... if you want good grade take him but if you want to learn don't !!!!!!!!!!
Bob is a very good professor. His lectures are pretty boring and long but if you study you can get an A in this class for sure. His office hours are helpful and if you get to know him, he'll cut you some slack just as long as he knows that your trying your best. P.S. Practice HW problems are very important for the exam.
He sped through his lecture, so make sure you did do your reading. And apparently, he's the only prof so far i know gave away bonus point, n take this opportunity to boost up your grade.
one of the best professors i've had so far. he's very fair and helpful. and if you ever start to doze off in the middle of class, just yell out: "SHERBERT"!!!
I thought this class was easier than 111A. If you show up for the daily quizzes and do well on the midterms and final, you will have no problem getting an A.
Bob needs to utilize the projector instead of the chalkboard. It's hard to follow.
Bob's test are based off lecture. Unfortunately, not nearly everything he lectures on is on the test. This creates for some confusion as to whats expected of students. His students love him though. Be prepared to take a quiz every class (counts only towards attendance grade though.)
Sherberts are awesome, but his teaching style is a bit rusty. TAs can be of help at times, but they are kiss-asses to Bob. Lectures tend to drift all over the place, the book is water-down enough to understand without the help of TAs, section, and lectures. Overall, Bob is overrated from an economic standpoint.
Tests are the key. Once you get to 111 series, HW and attendance means nothing. If you want to learn, don't go to lectures, but study on your own. He recycles his tests like crazy, so only study off of the past tests and it'll be fine. Bob will hook you up if you're looking for a job though.
Bob made accounting "sexy", once you take his class, you'll realize what that means. In lectures, i surfed the internet most of the time, but people that did participate got a "card", earning them 5+ points on the tests. I liked Bob and my future means a job at one of the Big 4 accting firm. Get to know Bob = Get a job at Big 4. enough said.
This guy probably has been using the same overheads since he started teaching. Make sure you read before class or you will have no idea what is going on. Class isnt even worth going to except for getting the attendance grade.
Hard class, does seem like favoritism occurs, but whatever, I somehow managed to get by without brown nosing at all. His teaching isn't very clear as it is often too fast, but you can hope your TA was as smart as mine to make everything understandable. Here's to hoping I get into a decent firm or something.
Bob is the sage of accounting. he absolutely loves it which gave me an appreciation for accounting...weird i know. go to class. take the quizzes class isnt mandatory but quizzes during class really effect overall grade and study the right material to do well on the tests.
Bob is really a nice guy. He is great with job placement. Class may not be the most exciting thing ever, but you should go for participation points. No one could really make accouting any more interesting than he can.
Bob is a really nice guy. The things he says in class is pretty much useless. Learn everything from Homework and TA's. He goes really fast and doesn't really explain much. Definitely a big mistake to take this class. Accounting is not for me and Bob's style of teaching just doesn't do it for me.
Bob is a really nice professor who cares about his students' well being and career goals. He brought accounting to the UC as well as all the recruiters who give us jobs. For class, you have to either study the text book or go to section to do well on tests. Lectures are traditional where they add to the material not teach it all.
Recycled jokes. Mumbling. Fostered Competition. If you are Asian and want to work for one of the big four, and drive a bmw, and talk on an I-phone, please become bob's student and learn to kiss ass. Money is all he cares about. If you want to learn about business, read the paper and start a lemonade stand.
Everyone only goes to class for the attendance points. Half the class falls asleep in his lectures (which are useless) and everyone wakes up at the end of class to take the quiz. Despite his horrid teaching method, Bob is still highly regarded due to his job connections. He should quit as a lecturer and instead work as a career adviser.
I have had bob for 10a, 10b, 110, 111a, and 111b and this man is LEGIT. You have to work to understand the material(actually read) because if you dont in lecture you will be lost. Also go to toastmaster. I didnt know i wanted to do accounting before bob and now im going to intern at a big 4 this summer and TA for his 111a class. BOB IS THE MAN!
well I thought he was much better than that guy that thought the class before that young DeeHan guy, now that was a horrible lecturer. The sections aren't mandatory. You will have to memorize lots of charts. Be prepared to study a lot
bleeding boring class!!!
Had bob for all intermediate accting courses. Accounting is pretty boring if you don't like it, and i don't. But Bob is like the Godfather of Accting. He is suppose to retire within the next 2 years so PLEASE TAKE THE CLASS NOW! His tests are straight forward but you have to work hard to get an A. Great Professor.
supposedly college... supposedly upper division... but when will these people realize that mandatory attendance is for kindergardeners?
This guy is LEGIT! First of all, the class isn't that hard because Bob puts a lot of effort in presenting the material in a clear way. Further, he gives you "clues" on what to study for the exams. If you believe you deserve a better score than you received and can back it up, he'll give you some points back. Overall, great experience and good guy.
sort of boring and exciting teacher. he knew his stuff, but the book does SOO much. book tells you everything. if you can do the homework, you can do the tests. he is a really nice and funny guy, but is a bit repetitive and boring. mandatory lectures. get a good TA that sends you previous tests. read the book and do practice problemsfor a goodgrade
Bob is the best! I'm glad I took his class even though some of these reviews are so negative. He's not an easy A but taking his class was well worth the experience.
I recommend him
Shepherd is a kind and witty teacher. I didn't like the whole mandatory attendance at first, but I must say that it really did help me to absorb some of the material better. Definitely go to his office hours with questions, get to know your TA, and READ THE BOOK!
Don't come to class expecting to learn concepts. You have to do the learning on your own before you come to class. His lectures are boring and make you fall asleep. Definitely plan on making time to study for this class--you'll need it if you want to get a good grade.
Bob is a nice guy, has a few funny jokes here and there but overall he's a boring teacher. His lectures are extremely dull. I recommend a tutor and learning on your own. He tends to teach the class as if you already know all of the material. READ THE BOOK!!!
Bob's lectures are pretty hard to follow if you don't read ahead (and even if you read ahead sometimes it's hard to follow haha) But seriously, just open the book and read, or you'll fail the midterms for sure. Do practice problems over and over again until you go crazy, you'll probably get an A.
Easiest A ever if you read the book a little bit and do all of the practice problems in the book. Toast Masters is a waste of time because if you are that dedicated to getting an A one card earned in lecture is worth the whole quarter of Toast Masters. Don't expect to learn much from his lectures.
Four classes with Bob, and all A's. Read the book, get cards in lecture, and do toastmasters (5%). Plus he helped me get a job!! BEST/MOST INFLUENTIAL teacher at UCSC.
Bob is the man. He single handedly made the accounting program at UCSC. Major firms recruit at UCSC solely because of his influence. His recommendations get people jobs every year. Read the book, do the homework and practice test, you will get an A in every class. His lectures are borderline incomprehensible, so do your work n ask TAs for help
Bob makes his lectures mandatory. If he didn't, no one would go but the TA's.Everyone I know got angry that lectures were mandatory, because you were forced to sit for 1hr 45min and usually you learn nothing. You MUST go to sections and read ALL the required chapters to succeed in Bob's classes. However, he does have lots of connections in accounting.
Mandatory lectures are useless. No one learns anything from the lectures. Poor teaching quality. I learned the material through the book and with the help of TA's during section.
Excellent all-around professor. Goes through material very quickly in class, so attend sections (even if they're optional). He's easy to talk to and very friendly. Course itself isn't easy, which is probably the reason behind many of the negative ratings.
Bob is a funny guy, but doesn't teach very well. You can easily get a B in his class if you do the homework.
Bob is the CPA job resource. His passion is not so much the subject matter at hand, but placing students within the job sector. He demonstrates as a valuable tool that the students can utilize as a "smart" resource. Lectures are boring, however Bob's classes provide as a foundation of domains experience, that you can bring with you a future firm.
Bob is a nice guy, but his lectures are boring and pointless. There are a lot opportunities to get extra credit for his class. Most importantly he wants all his students to pass thats why he most of the time tells you what exactly is on his tests.
His lectures are boring and pointless unless u read book beforehand, but he is nice enough to give a ton of extra credit, in addition he gives extra credit cards to people who answers his questions correctly.
Bob is a good and helpful person, but his lectures are for the most part not helpful at all. He goes through material very fast. Lecture is mandatory bc of quizzes (for attendance). Read before going to class otherwise you will be lost. Gives a lot of extra credit in class. Exams are easy and problems often come from previous exams (avai. online)
