the worst teacher ever!
Horrible teacher. Dropped the class because of the teacher. Put me in a bad mood everytime I attended his lecture. Not helpful by any means. May not even be human.
don't understand his lecture at all!!!
Hard Teacher. Take point very seriouly. He doesn't like to teach and he doesn't really like to help student.
worst teacher ever... I dont think he likes teaching nor the students... Not willing to help you out. He never smiled once the whole semester.
He may not be suitable to become a teacher, he doesn't let students to understand, may be he doesn't know how to let sutudent understand. He expect all the student has a very good foundation and will not explain concept again.
Tests are just like the homework and examples given in class. Must do the homework to do well on the tests. Labs are easy.If you have questions he will explain if you go to his office hours.
He is much better then at the beginning of this semester, he has more smile on his face and be more easy-going. However, his calss is still hard anf I am not siturated with his way to teach--not clear enough for me and too much work.
Worst teacher ever. His monotone voice makes everything much more boring than it really is. I dropped the class because of him too. He seems mad everytime anyone asks for help. He spends more time outside on his cell phone than in the classroom.
Pros: When he speaks, its clear. He is willing to help. Out of all the chem teachers I had, his test are the easiest...yes the easiest. Cons: Monotone voice. His test is still hard. Gives alot of homework. A perfectionist.
Like listening to a zombie. No personality and very boring lectures. Tests weren't too bad he just lacks social skills. I bought a lot of AMPs to try and stay awake (keyword:try).
one word that sums him up: ZOMBIE!
Very unapproachable. Refused to give help. frequently not in class during lab period. Knows his topic well but probably more suited to do research than to teach.
Keywords: monotone, unhelpful, hard, drooling. Explaination: He sleeps while he lectures, his test is out of text, he disrespects students in general and he brings his advance chemestry research stuff out of nowhere.
WHATEVER YOU DO....DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! I WORN YOU DO NOT TAKE SHIBAO'S CLASS!
too hard-_-^
my advice to him is to stop teaching and look for something that interest him to do instead of making our lives miserable.
Not only is he hard but also very unhelpful. he expects u to know eveything. Mr. Shibao needs to do something that he enjoys. He is a terrible teacher. Every time he enters class, seems like he is being forced to lecture. He is so unenthusiastic about his profession. Its sad!!!
PROS: he gives a practice test that is exactly like his test but with little glitches....test is pretty straight forward comes from his lectures. He gives u 2 hr or more on ur test unlike other chem 1a teachers. CON: hes unapproachable, gives lots of even hwk...im barely survivng with a C...!!!
He seems unapporchable, but he is willing to help (especially in office hours). He tries to show the connection w/ research whenever I him a question. He cleary likes the material. Bad side: he can be moody.
Don't ever even think about him!! i know that he's so smart by himself,, but he doesn't know how to teach. His tests are so hard and don't make sense at all even if he provides students the sample exams. it will be better not to take him, or you will get a W on your record. Watch out!!
he is not a nice teacher. he knows his stuff but does not know how to teach. so you have to learn reading the text book. he gives sample tests which is helpful. however, he take it easier on you on the final and if you try hard you can get a good grade.
The only thing hard about Shibao is that he doesn't give a study guide for upcoming exams (including the final). Besides that he doesn't make chemistry any harder than it tends to be. Seemed to get bothered by too many questions being asked and had the tendency to answer them somewhat vaguely. Overall, though, he was one of my favorite professors.
very knowledgable teacher and will answer any and all questions, however doesnt do enough to help students comprehend material, expects you to do alot of learning on your own but thats life, however as a teacher, if you have the ability to do more to help and you dont than your just as guilty of not doing enough!!! is kinda boring but bearable
Don't u ever ever take him...
he's not helpful!! he's very intimidating..he knows his stuff but doesnt bond with students and could care less..very boring his lectures arent that helpful his test are VERY hard and tricky!!!!!hes smart and all but he shouldnt be a teacher.. hes very anal and wont let you leave early if you finish lab theres always something ridiculously wrong it
he's not that bad.. just has an accent. he will give you whats on the test and give a practice test! labs are okay, he gives a lot of hints. chemistry in general is a tough class, but helps a lot.
don't take him please... loves to smoke during the class... answers the phone in the class...when he gets bore, he gives us a hard ploblem to solve, and go outside. Guess what? he's smoking!!
makes chemistry even more boring than it has to be. does not give a lot of time for homework help.
would be a great professor, if he laid off powerpoint and actually lectured, was more strict about the homework and were remotely approachable. maybe he hasn't been teaching for very long? maybe he doesn't like teaching chem 1A? whatever the case is, unless you enjoy learning on your own avoid him as a chem 1A prof.
god, he's so BORING! I liked chem before I took this guy's class. I swear, if powerpoint shut down, this dude would totally disintegrate. He doesn't teach. He shows slides. If you don't mind utter boredom and sitting there for hours looking at slides you can find on the internet by yourself, take this guy.
I have a feeling alot of these 1 1 1 rating are from just one person. Shibao is a good teacher. He explains materials many times. You can ask him a single question ten times and he still answers you. Hist tests are exactly the same Format as his practice ones. Read book and His lectures and learn to solove problems in his way and you can get an A.
--Anyone that has taken Professor Shibao will tell you that he does not like to answer questions! I will repeat this, DOES NOT LIKE TO ANSWER QUESTIONS! --ADVICE: understand practice exams, READ ahead and try NOT to spend much time doing the h.W problems. Very intelligent man and knows his stuff inside and out. He loosens up at the end.
horrible just awful. very intelligent teacher, but he just doesnt care about teaching. you can tell the way he talks about research that he likes it. in class unless he does the problem on the board (rare) he will only tell you if you got the problem wrong; not WHAT you did wrong tho. if you take him read the textbook EVERY NIGHT. and do ALL the hw
He is a horrible teacher. I see myself as a hardworker and fairly smart, but Shibao hates to teach and help. I probably could have passed, but i didn't want to deal with him any longer.
It's hard to catch up on his lecture during the first few weeks, but if you find the rhythm,he's not as bad as ppl say. He assume you know things,so skimming the text book is useful. He doesnt answers hw questions often at first, but late semester he does it a lot. Tests are VERY similar to his practice questions. Learn that,B on test is good to go
He is not the greatest Teacher, If you want to do good in his class try reading the book on your own and solve all the examples in the book so you can get a better understanding. Try asking questions in and outside of class as well. Also keep up with your lab notebook from the start because its easy points and the hw.
If you plan to take him, READ THE BOOK BEFORE GOING TO CLASS and don't slack off for even 1 day for this class!! Know how to do all your homework problems. He teaches out of the Petrucci book and the homework is a bit mind boggling. I suggest study groups for his class. But I think this guy is better than Golestaneh.
HE is THE best teacher. He has changed 100%. If you are assertive he will help you with anything even if it takes up class time. You can easily persuade him to push back tests. Just Make sure you do ALLL your homework, and understand it. He offers extra credit on most tests and will curve them. Really a Sweet Guy! Highly Recommended!
he is realli bad at teaching, but like..hes nice, and he TRIES to help, but he seems to fail at it. the MAJOR thing that can kill you...would be the tests: they're hard as hell. so..if youre gonna take his class..you have to be down to study..a ALOT. so good luck,
Difficult to understand his teaching methods in the beginning of the semester. Gets progressively better with lectures. The trick to making time go by faster is ask him personal questions, he gets distracted. Hes extremely smart, its better to ask help on homework questions in person. Multiple choice on tests are tough, but free response is easyyy
He doesn't seem like a friendly teacher, but he is. Ask him questions no matter how annoyed he looks (its probably just his facial expression). Quizzes are concentrated on problems covered in lecture and in the book. Curves every quiz. If you do your homework, and study, it is very easy to get a solid B in the class. Getting an A is very doable.
If you are a chem major shibao is the man to take. He is extremely smart and very helpful.Test are hard, multiple choice is killer. But then again it is college and it is chem. Pay attention in lecture and do hw and ask questions and you'll do fine. HIGHLY recommended.
requires a lot of studying. tests are difficult. 2 formal lab reports. though hez extremely helpful! and smart. there was a girl in my class who asks him a bunch of questions during the lecture but he answered everything. I was frustrated and felt bad for him. anyways best teacher for 1B if u wanna learn the real chem.
BEFORE U GO INTO THIS CLASS U HAVE TO BE AWARE THAT THIS IS A COLLEGE CHEM CLASS. NO EASY A FOR SURE. HOWEVER DR.SHIBAO WILL HELP U IF U HAVE ANY QUESTIONS. HEZ NICE AND EXTREMELY SMART. GIVES TESTS FOR EACH CHAPTERS SO IT WAS NICE FOR ME. THE FINALS WAS NOT THAT DIFFICULT COMPARING TO THE EXAMS. ND HEZ EASY ON LABS. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
I have never withdrawn from a class in my life, and I withdrew from this class before the second exam, not because I had a bad grade but because I was learning NOTHING. He's an ok guy, but he's a terrible teacher. He will not prepare you for Chem 1B. Seriously... I had an A and I dropped
Nice guy, he's smart and it's easy to get him to postpone the due dates on labs and assignments. The problem is his lectures suck and his exams -based on lectures- are really tough! I'd go into detail, but I'm only allowed 350 characters. A lotta students dropped after the 1st and 2nd exam, and unless you're a genius, you'll be one of them. G'luck!
I hope he's aware that he's teaching General Chemistry at El Camino, not graduate Chemistry at Princeton University. Yes, I'm exaggerating, but his tests are hard! More than half the class dropped because of his exams.
He is an amazing teacher. He will definitely prepare you for chem 1B. tests arent that bad. just review your notes. his lectures are very interesting. i love his class :)
Dr. Shibao is the best chem professor. he makes you think and well by the end of the class you learn a lot and you develop thinking skills. he is too flexible with lab due dates. his extremely nice :)highly recomended.
This professor is ridiculously boring and kind of timid. He is extremely un organized (Make sure you hold on to all of your labs and complete the work). He doesn't fully explain anything, he bounces back and forth between chapters. My suggestion is DO NOT TAKE him unless you absolutely must. He gets 2 thumbs down from me!
he is very helpful. once you get use to his teaching method is very easy to follow. take good notes and you will be fine.he is very easy on labs. Test are ok. he is not boring. if u understand what he is talking about you will enjoy every lecture :) and if you dont, you ask asnd he is willing to explain everything again. highly recomended :)
once you get use to his teaching method is very easy to follow. if u understand what he is talking about you will enjoy every lecture :) and if you dont, ask and he is willing to explain everything again. highly recomended :)
terrible and so hard. he teaches like he speaking to NASA rocket scientists. he makes it so difficult to understand and he is the worst ever. i wanted to vomit everyday after lecture and the day before just thinking about going to his class. ok to take if your a chem genius but if not forget it youll never get highter than a c or d
It's a tough class, there's no way around that. But shibao rewards hard work, so if you really are trying you're hardest, you will pass the class. If you're lazy and treat it as if it was a GE you will be lucky to get a low C. Not the best lecturer. Extremely lenient on due dates. Very intimidating though.
Best teacher in the world.you will learn lots and learn his theories and structures
FIrst of all, he is not difficult at all. Those who say he is hard should think once more. Lecture is somehow confusing for some people. But he gives practice test which helps a lot. Lots of extra credit. And offers help surely.
He is not so hard and bad as people say on here. In fact, he is one of the most coolest chem teachers i've had. I didn't pay much attention to lecture because its really confusing, but as long ad you read the book, do hw, and look over practice test, you should be ok. He spends a lot of time answering any questions anyone has. TAKE HIM!
Quantum Mechanics is the theory behind chemistry, that is basically all I learned from his class.
Curves tests, gives out practice tests that are almost identical to his exams, gives great letters of rec, stops the lecture often to ask if anyone has questions. He goes very deep in concepts, but even if you don't fully understand, the practice exams will get you through with an A. Not easy, but it's chem. Easily the best teacher I've ever had.
Although he doesn't know how to give good(organized) lecture, he has effort to teach well. He is easy to communicate with. Have the whole class to say sth is impossible and he will let it go. Do all homework with effort is enough to master the material and ace the class. Anyway, you do not have choice on Chem1B teacher except you take it in summer.
If you're picky with teaching style and prefer well organized lectures PLEASE do avoid him.
Man this has to be one of the worst teachers I've taken in the science department. He is so unorganized its ridiculous. Most of the time I have to read from my book because during lecture, he skips over so many things and does so few examples. El Camino honestly needs to get new Chemistry teachers, because this guy is really bad.
Awful professor. His lectures are so unorganized, I never know what it really going on in the class. He requires you to have the text book but most of the crap he goes over isn't even in it, so you can't really reference anything other than his lectures and the internet. Just found out he is teaching Chemistry 1B. Ugh! Don't take him. He is so bad!
Let it be known, this class is a guessing game. You never know what to expect when coming to class. Always goes off topic, very lazy, gives you old practice exams to prepare for tests, has no emotion when lecturing, so dry and boring, doesn't know how to teach. I will say this though: If you take good notes, you will be fine but you don't learn.
I didn't learn a thing. Had to drop. He doesn't really teach or answer questions. He's just killing time.
Literally the worst teacher I've ever taken at ElCo. If you're reading this right now and you're thinking about taking him for 1B next semester or whatever, do yourself a favor and just wait until a different teacher teaches it. His tests don't match up with his pretests (insanely hard) and he couldn't be less helpful when you ask questions.
Tests are difficult and don't match up with lecturespre tests. Doesn't help you when you ask questions. Very unorganized and lazy, will leave class for 20 minutes to go talk on the phone and comes back asking if we figured out the problem he gave us. Super dry and boring, doesn't really teach from the book, he kills time during lecture.
Probably not a good idea to take this professor. Never answers questions properly, always leaves you hanging. Tests are hard, and literally, there are "Shibao" questions on the exams. These "Shibao" questions are insanely stupid and hard. Assigns a ton of homework, I would not recommend taking him. Very unorganized, unclear, and just really bad.
Complete and study the practice tests & homework & you'll do well on chapter exams. He may seem a bit reserved & quiet, but he is quite helpful, fair, lenient & flexible with due dates for lab reports. Some of the other reviews are an exaggeration & had me expecting the worst in the beginning, but he really isn't that bad.
Nice guy. Gives tons of partial credit on exams, even on multiple choice q's. Pushes back exam datesdue dates for lab reports if class is unprepared. Gives access to old exams as practice exams. Starts every class by answering questions, though he may not give a direct response so that you'll think for yourself. One negative: a bit unorganized.
For a subject that is in itself difficult his classes are fairly easy. In both his chem 4 & 1B classes he was very straightforward, nice, helpful, provided practice tests that were very similar to the tests, pushed back deadlines and always asked if we had questions. If you put in an effort to understand the material a good grade will be easy.
He is tenured to the max and legitimately does not care about the quality of his teaching. Extremely disorganized and lectures are confusing. Tells us one thing is true then tells us the exact opposite is true -_-.
I took Shibao for Chem 1A and 1B. My biggest advice would be to take advantage of the lecture videos he posts and start watching them a few days before the exam. In 1B, I didn't attend lecture but watched them before the test and passed all my tests. In 1A, I attended all his lectures but didn't watch them again before the exams and I did worse..
He's an interesting professor and his lectures are hard to follow. I think his teaching style is much more suited for graduate school and not at elco. You can pretty much get by in the class by mastering his practice tests. I feel like I could have done better in the class if I spent more time studying at home than attending lectures.
Dr. Shibao is a genius! Very smart and has done great work in the field of chemistry. He does not give the most straight forward lectures, but records them which helps if you have the time to rewatch them. Chem is not easy. Expect a lot of work and time commitment. He extends deadlines if needed and cares about the students. Gives you practice exam
Dr. Shibao is a great professor. He is definitely under appreciated. His lectures are long but they cover the majority if not all of what you will expect on the exam. He gives you past exams before the exam.
Favorite chem prof so far. Tries to be as helpful as possible (piazza, answers any ?'s in class, posts lecture videos online, proofreads lab reports). Challenging bc he teaches not only basics but exceptions as well & gives tons of hw. Curves class, gives partial credit & e.c. Bit disorganized. Nice & lenient w due dates. 1 test per chapter. Take!!
As someone who has taken chem w/ Abbani and Turner, he's a lousy instructor. Shows you how to solve problems but doesn't explain you any theory. Waste class time in algebra problems, ask questions and won't move on until someone answers it, leaves the class every 25 min w/o reason, extends deadline ONLY BECAUSE we are behind schedule (2 chapters)
By far the worst professor I have ever taken. Compared to the physics & biology professors at Elco, and all my professors at UC Davis, Prof. Shibao lacks any interest in teaching his students. Very unorganized leaving students confused on the material & what is expected. Always seems unsatisfied with life & his students. Leaves randomly during lect
He is a really bad teacher more than half of the class dropped him! He is really confusing and assumes you know the "easy" chapters. He gives paper homework and online homework. The lectures and online homework are really different for each other. He is really unorganized.
Professor Shibao knows his stuff really well. It's a hard class so come prepared to work but overall I learned a lot.
Does he have a good chem background? Yes, but moments I felt like he would say one thing and then contradict his point... There's certain items you must memorize, others you don't but have to work extremely hard for. Test are challenging, extremely tricky, and one question wrong could cost you. Very Lenient, but you do have to put more than 100%
Easily one of the worst professors I've taken. Half the class (including me) dropped out, he leaves class randomly, skips basically all important information, and the tests don't match up with the lecture. He made me dislike chemistry.
Honestly it is tough understanding what he teaches and the lectures barely covered what was on the test. The homework was the best practice for exams (I averaged a C) and he spends lectures going over practice exams. He will give you 100% on HW & labs if you complete them which will boost your grade at the end. Very possible to get an A
If you skip class, this class will be impossible. If you take notes on everything he says, especially the things he says more then once, then it should be easy to pass the class without really trying. His exams are multiple choice heavy on the material he said in class with very few calculations. Also offers a lot of extra credit on the final.
I don't recommend taking any of his classes. He doesn't grade and post anything in a timely manor, he leaves class randomly, he isn't sure what material we covered in previous lectures and often skips stuff thinking we already gone over it or gives the same lecture twice because he forgot he already given it. His lectures are unorganized. Awful.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! no one in our class felt like we were learning anything. He doesn't care about his students whatsoever. he doesn't responds to the emails. and when he did he was SO RUDE about it he literally stated, "to be rude" to me. he doesn't answer questions. he has online homework. never miss lab days and do all hw.
Shibao is the worst professor I have ever had. He doesn't care for the students or the quality of his teaching. His lectures are unorganized and confusing which doesn't help with a hard class like chemistry. He would leave for long periods of time during class with no explanation. If you can teach yourself you'll be fine, otherwise DO NOT take him.
Probably the most unorganized professor I have had. Started with 50 students and ended with 10. Chemistry is already a difficult subject and he constantly contradicts himself. Steps out of the room during labs so good luck getting your questions answered. Disappointed.
Honestly, he really cares about his students because there are a lot of extra credits that you can get and he also records his lectures for students in case you do n't understand the materials or you don't attend the class, but be ready to work hard . If you take notes in his class, you can get an easy A.
GREAT PROFRESSOR. 9/10 would recommend. Hes a good professor. As long as you participate and take notes, its an easy A. He even posts videos of the lectures on YouTube in case you miss some information! Many of the students in my class never took notes, never studied, and just expected an A without any effort. Hes a bit messy, but thats okay.
He was the hardest professor I have ever had. The course chem 4 was extremely difficult when it wasnt suppose to be. When he was lecturing, he would start from one point and end up with another. I do not recommend taking this professor.
I think he cares a lot about his students. If you need help with understanding a question or lesson, hes always willing to help. If you need help with a lab or forgot homework, you can always tell him. Although he gives a mini quiz everyday, as long as you focus in his class and study at home or at a study center you can pass his class.
One of the hardest/worst prof. I've had so far. Very disorganized with lectures & class in general. Gives out a mini quiz every day for class but the material on the mini quiz is irrelevant to what he taught. Labs are difficult when he spends a total of 30 min. explaining it & becomes unapproachable during the labs. The book is pointless as well!
Ofc he is a good teacher. He is kind, as he works hard to relate with the students. In our class, we had a chem quiz every day but we were often allowed to work together. He is quite funny. If you do take his course, I would recommend paying attention in his class and writing notes. Also, go to study centers and review chem a little every day.
Very unstructured. lectures were unorganized. was told there would be 9 exams but they were not scheduled on the syllabus. Had exams on lab days which made exams stressful. Used the book to self teach because the professor was not clear. assigned a lot of homework problems that were for credit. This was all before corona which is why i dropped
I took his class a while ago, but I got an A. If you can pay close attention during class to what he says, you can pretty much easily get a good grade. He's a bit boring to take, but nonetheless he is incredibly thoughtful since if you actually reach out to him, he's always willing to help. It is a hard class though, so don't think you can't study.
taking the class rn. all i can say is that prof shibao knows his stuff, but his class is hard so you need to study a lot. from the exam ive taken i now know that you need to pay VERY close attention to his lecture, (there aren't too many book-based problems). he is a good teacher though, i dont understand why he has a rating of 2.5...
Robert Shibao is a nice guy, he seems polite and all but when it comes to actually lecturing and teaching he lacks the ability to stay on topic at all and constantly confuses himself and this confuses the students, no one ever knew when things were due including the professor, highly recommend swapping professors for someone else.
If you see his name on the screen to register DONT DO IT. Horrible with communication. Always taking random breaks and all he does is textbook work during class. Literally learned a little bit from him. Really confusing and disorganized. Doesnt grade work and doesnt explain what is wrong with the work. Also YouTube is a better teacher than him.
The lectures are very confusing because Shibao lacks effective communication skills and often goes OT. You have to read the book to learn at all. If you do, you'll be fine. Tests are easy and he's good-natured. He always asks for questions, does reviews, offers EC. Important: ask if confused.I wish I had done this. Not a great teacher but cool guy.
Brilliant professor. Deserves better reviews. I got the top grade on the midterm & final, my advice is ASK WHEN CONFUSED. He gives great explanations. Pros: funny & interesting, flexible due dates, gives back points on test qs if you present a good argument, visual explanations. Cons: hard to reach online, unorganized lectures -> leads to confusion
He speaks in monotone for the entirety of the three hour lectures. That's what makes it so hard. What sucks is that beyond that, he clearly cares about the subject in spite of the monotone. He's also fairly receptive to questions, and starts each lecture by asking if anyone has questions... but he's hard to get a hold of outside of lectures.
Very nice prof. I took him a while ago but he cares about his students, and if you participate in class and actually pay attention, you'll do fine. It's not very difficult, and you can tell he knows his stuff. Most others in my class never studied and expected A's, which is why I think his reviews are so low. He gives extra/partial credit too.
Shibao is so great. Best teacher I've ever had by far. He gives student lots of time to turn in assignments so it's YOUR responsibility to stay on top of work. He emphasizes a conceptual understanding. Take good notes, review them & do the hw. When something is confusing, ask him. With the right questions, shibao will turn you into a chem genius.
Thought this professor would be alright, but he ended up not grading most of the assignments we turned in until the last like week/week and a half. Not to mention my class was behind on lecture the entire semester, he ended up cramming multiple chapters into one lecture day.
Good professor, very in depth with the material but if you pay attention and study it's a pretty easy A. The grading was kind of slow but he had recorded lectures so getting a good grade wasn't particularly difficult. He gives EC but you have to make sure you're on top of everything bc Chem is a hard subject.
This professor's lectures are not clear at all, most times if not all the time you will have to watch YouTube videos or read the textbook to understand the topics. The professor only gives 5 points for homework and most of your grade is the exams. And if you are unclear on a topic, he is not very approachable. Just don't take this professor.
I never understood what he said nor did other people the class was full and only 10 kids stayed. If you do pick him start going to library tutoring every day. He does let us use the old exams as practice but he gave it to us like 2 days before.
The teacher is a great person, but his chemistry lessons are unclear, messy, and monotone. If you have him, make sure to take notes on everything he says, including tangents and off-topic discussions. His classes are all over the place, so it's important to attend tutoring from day one and keep at it. I'm not joking.
Professor's overall teaching showed a lack of preparedness due to the inconsistent pacing of lectures which often derailed into unrelated topics. This resulted in squeezing multiple chapters in a singular day. The Professor is slow to grade assignments and incredibly vague with his answers, not helped by his notes being near illegible.
His class was very unorganized, found myself confused on due dates. He did not offer much help if you had questions. His tests are very heavy on random facts and had many typos on them. FYI Do the practice exams in preparation! Does not grade items on time and will grade hw and quizzes months late. Do not take him if this is your first chem class.
Unorganized, slow on grading, monotone, and goes off topic. Other than that, he's an okay prof (can't really win with chem profs). Pay close attn to lectures and have study groups from the start. Aside from tests, class consists of quizzes which you can retake for a better grade and labs. Homework credit based on problems solved. Few EC chances.
He is a great person and his lectures are very engaging. Would definitely take him again!
The class can be disorganized, but engaging with the material and using study tools like Unstuck study can really help. Attend tutoring and use practice exams to prep. Professor is approachable if you put in the effort.
Dr. Shibao was overall too monotone and didn't lecture very well. You have to read the textbook to learn as well as go to office hours consistently. His exam questions were really tough and not similar to lecture or textbook material. He gives practice exams to help you study, but other than that I would avoid him at all costs.
Lectures can be monotonous and get off-track. Grade mostly depends on exams and labs, and EC may be given on homework. Important to find people to study with outside of class as prof doesn't do exam review before test (other than final). Prof provides practice tests before exams which have similar questions to those on the exam (word changes, etc).
Sidetracked during lectures, disappears during labs, fixes exam questions during testing, practice test/test answer keys are often wrong, speaks discouragingly! BUT he's forgiving for grades and my classmates gaslit him a lot.. If you seek help you get help and he only disappears for stuff you could do yourself..usually. Taking him in the spring!
Easily the worst professor I've ever taken. Wasn't organized, constantly lost assignments and labs and would put them in as zeroes- albeit if you had photos he'd change the grade. His tests are multiple choice, some of the questions written being impossible to solve (the numbers used make nonsensical answers). Spent hours on hw and studying, failed
Professor Shibao's lectures can get boring; I barely learned anything from the lectures and just studied with his homework and practice quizzes. Despite not performing well (~70-85%) on most of my exams, his lab grades and homework grades guarantee an easy A. He is very caring. Reach out to him if you are struggling and he will find a way to help.
Took this class a long time ago, but while the lectures aren't too engaging, Shibao was an overall good professor. After transferring I realized that I had a great foundation in chem bc of this class. As long as you keep up with the material and do a ton of practice problems and the extra credit, you'll be fine. He's very accessible and helpful.
Shibao, is a decent professor. He loves to TALK, his exams are horrible and rely on random facts and tidbits that you probably fell asleep and didnt hear. He does NOT grade anything on time, but will allow you to turn in late work atleast. take him at your own risk.
