Knows his stuff. Good lecturer.
he was a lawyer and just started teaching again, so he doesnt stick with the book, he tries to make it interesting but bottom line he doesn't teach nada. after the midterm i started skipping coz the final is the book only.u'll have 3 quizes, easy 2 cheat..
You would be a fool not to select him as your teacher (if you were given the opportunity). He has a lot of real world examples/experiance so he speaks of what he knows. Often strays away from the textbook which sucks because the final is ALL textbook.
super boring when teaching but otherwise the man is a comedian.. CAN NOT TEACH! He always looked tired and never prepared his exams properly.. total disaster
He's really funny. Difficult exams and project...especially because he gives NO info about both. But he is entertaining.
fun teacher, lots of interesting stories. exams are hard, multiple choice purely textbook and since he doesn't really teach directly from textbook... the essay questions are ok tho.
Seem very tough at the beginning, but very nice human being. If u go see him in his office, he will help u in everything. He picks on students in class and u better prepare before going to class...he'll make the class very interesting by embarassing your fellow class mates.
What a funny guy! but his class is not easy to follow...
Very boring and lazy teacher. Avoid him if you want to get good grade.
He is a killer and bad maker. He uses old edition slides. It's unuseful for exam. Don't choose him.
This is one of the worst professors.Teaches you stuff not relevant to the course. Very very tough marker. He failed 25% of students in my class. No one gets an A in his course.i studied my ass off and got a C.He does make you laugh in class and seems funny but when u get ur grade at the end.its not funny.overall i dont advise anyone to take his class
Very interesting class. Professor Soroka is very interesting, not to mention funny. He really makes the class fun, but I wouldn't consider this to be one of my easiest classes.
Professor Soroka is a very tough instructor but is nonetheless very helpful, informative and actually quite funny. Clearly if you're looking to 'breeze' through this course without putting in the appropriate effort, then you are dreaming in technicolour. For all you people who think he is hot...U ALL should be LOBOTOMIZED!!He is the epitome of NERD.
For those of you saying he's a hard marker is because you simply didnt study/read the book. You HAVE to read the book for this class no matter who your teacher is. The multiple choices all come from the book. Soroka is an amazing teacher, he's fair and not to mention pretty funny. You'll have to work for your grade but not more than any other class
This teacher is not very descriptive, not helpful, and doen't explain things clearly. He nitpicks about his grading also. I got an A, but i had to do 10 times the work for it!
STUDY (do you reading etc), and ATTEND class-you'll be fine. Get to know him. Ask questions. Go see him @ office. He's EXTREMELY helpful and likes to see you actively wanting to learn. His exams are M/C (all text) Essays (his notes). If he spends time talking about something ITS ON EXAM! He's funny as hell. I got an A. But i didnt slack either!
Great teacher, great person. Will help you with real life problems!!! He's involved with other institutions such as YES. Fantastic lectures, fantastic stories! Entertaining!!!
Prof. Soroka is fantastic. I agree with previous ratings with reading your material and ATTENDING HIS CLASSES. He is an entertainer and his stories are great and is always there to help you. Prof. Soroka is a great professor and I hope I will be able to take future classes with Professor Soroka. I recommend him.
He is a great presenter, very qualified and interesting. His exams are not that bad but he is a tough grader. Worked hard and got an A- .. you can too.
After having just graduated, I can honestly say that Soroka is the best prof at Concordia!!!!
Don't recommend.
Very boring teacher, he is often confused. Not recommend!
You will not learn with him anything new. BORING prof. Avoid him!
Shows up late for almost every class, then rushes through the class. Seems annoyed to have to teach us, and is borderline rude (or not even borderline)when responding to a student's question. So far, the worst prof I've experienced at Concordia. Disappointing in all respects - I expected better from both he and Concordia.
I think he is a great teacher. His exams are a little hard but he is very approachable and extremely nice. I would recommend him.
Great prof! Great lectures! Where is all the negative stuff coming from??
Avoid this prof!!! Very boring, never prepared for the class. He acts like he hates to teach. NOT RECOMMEND!
This is a very good teacher. Half the material he teaches is related to the book, and half to current/past real-life experiences. Yeah he doesnt always follow the material in the book.... but you dont need him for that!! The book is very well written and if u hard u'll get a good grade. Fair grader too. very helpful and enthousiastic. Reccomend!
...Yeah, it was probably Soroka himslef. But dude, I hear ya. I worked my ass off too, and nothing! Like u said, as guys, we have nothing to gain by it, cuz even tho chicks think he's hot, it doesn't help us in any way.
Grade teacher, I enjoyed taking this course. Midterm was hard but taught me alot for the final. Help was always available. Take his class you will enjoy it.
Two quizzes and midterm were reasonable. And also it is possible to get a good grade on the project (worth 20%) So overall, it is quite possible to get an A in his class. He talks a lot and he is funny. I think you'll enjoy his class...
Could stand to give a bit more feedback on tests and projects. Also, has a tendency to talk really fast, so it can be hard to take notes. He is, however, very good about replying to questions and emails, and will make every effort to meet you if you need help. He has interesting anecdotes and a good sense of humour, so it's fun to go to class.
At first I thought he would be a good teacher; that is until the midterm. Very difficult. Going to class is pointless as most of the questions come from extremely vague sections of the text. Hardly gives any feedback. Tells a lot of anecdotes that are funny, but have nothing to do with the course.Unless you can learn completely independently, avoid!
He was intersting and made class go by quickly. Going to class is almost never as good as reading the book- all these people complaining they had to read the book- there is alot of material he explained it, but can't cover it all in detail! He knows his stuff and is available regardless of the fact he teaches like 15 classes!
Great teacher, makes the material interesting, fair maker, though you need to be prepared to work. Highly recommended
take this course in summer is much easlier
Phenomenal! Clear explanations, professional demeanor, great sense of humor...#1!
Although this class consists of a lot material and work required from you, Prof Soroka is a very knowledgable man. He is very approchable and willing to help. In class, he gives real life examples which help put the material into context and his sense of humor is a plus!
READ THIS COMMENT AN NO ONE ELSE'S IF YOU REALLY WANT THE TRUTH!!! I have taken Soroka in CEGEP for some marketing courses, and I absoloutely HAD to take him again at Concordia! Exams are straight from the book - so READ! Lots of feedback on group projects (regardless of other comments here) and very knowledgable in his field- MUST TAKE HIM!
Three words: Funny, Fair, and Knowledgeable. If that is what you are looking in a teacher, Soroka is your best candidate! Some might say he is a hard marker, but it is only because he wants you to do better and if you don't, then you deserve that grade!
Great teacher. Fair marker.
DUDEE this teacher rocks.. though i might not have gotten a good grade, i still had a blast in his 8a.m classes.. funny, helpful, exxxxtremely knowledgable.. highly recommend him.. he organizes his teaching material exactly like the book so be sure to have the book with you or his SLIDES which were helpful as well..!!
This teacher is AWESOME...attend class take notes and youll have a really good grade on the essay part of the exam...multiple choice is from the book so go on the booksite and practice there...GREAT TEACHER 845 class is a blast with him
On the first day Mr. Soroka appeared very un-presentable and unprofessional. On his first day, his tone of voice was unbearable and intimidating. He got a lot better with time though. His actual teaching wasn't extraordinary and, compared to other Marketing teachers, he was very unenthusiastic. I was very disappointed considering his background.-TX
Best teacher I've had at Concordia up to date. The material is tough and the midterm is hard - But you'll get the same in any other Mark class. Prof. Soroka is super interesting and has a lot of life experience in the field. Classes are great because he lectures rather than read off slides. Definitely recommend!!!
I cannot complain about this guy. He's very approachable, explains concepts clearly, his midterm/final are very fair- he takes the MC questions from the text book data bank so you really need to read the text for those but his essay questions are simple and straightforward he also believes in giving perfect grades unlike many other JMSB profs.. A++
Unacceptable
This guy chooses faivorites in class and it is very difficult to get A in his class. I wouldn't suggest to take him. He talks a lot in class about his family
Prof. Soroka is very knowledgeable! He cares about his students and responds to emails very quickly! Take him, you won?t regret it!
Clear explanations, real world application, and very approachable.
Avoid him! Seems nice, but could be very hard to deal with, also he is hard marker.
Excellent teacher, has a strong reputation and can be very helpful. Take him, you won't regret it!
I took this class two years ago. This prof is OK, but could be very difficult and harsh marker. Makes a lot of stupid jokes, well some students enjoy it :)
Simply the best prof at Concordia. Very knowledgeable, with real industry experience. Excellent lectures. Real world applications that makes theory understndable. Be prepared to work. Good students love him, but if you are not interested in working, find another class.
He is OK, but if you want an A most likely he will not give it to you even if you deserve it. Very hard marker and in our class nobody got even A-. I went to see him for explanations about my Midterm, he rushed me through wasn't happy that I even came to see him. By the way his jokes could be very stupid at times.
Online courses cannot replace class environment
He is an amazing teacher. Though his midterm is harder than some other sections, its the same format as the final so you know what to expect for the final. Many people who take this teacher find the final much easier as we are more prepared. Very helpful.
Overall alright teacher. The lectures were extremely boring. His project guidelines were clear, definitely can get a good grade if you work for it. Teacher is approachable but don't get on his bad side. He really prepares you well for the final since his midterm uses the exact same format.
Very knowledgeable! But only teaches theories in his class, does not spend time on preparing exams. A fair grader.
He is very knowledgeable, is passionate which is refreshing compared to most teachers at JMSB. HOWEVER, he is definitely the hardest marker out of all the other 305 teachers. Group project grades were ridiculously low even though our group worked extremely hard. I would take him again but do not expect an A. grades are fairly low
Amazing knowledge on organisational behaviour. Has experience in the subject being a consultant himself. Very interesting man, if you listen you will never be bored
Extremely inspirational teacher. He is very knowledgeable on the field and gives great real life examples. The class material is super boring, but he excels at making it interesting. He really cares about his students and their future.
This teacher is the BEST teacher I ever had at JMSB hands down. Very explicative, very helpful and quick to respond to student's needs/emails. Book is a must. But he's a very fair grader. His stories relate so well with the material. He's passionate, motivated, real, wow! BEST EVER! Class from 5:45-8 pm not easy, but he's wort it! trust me!
A knowledgeable teacher who cares about his students genuinely and grades fairly.
Amazing teacher!!! I wish Concordia had more teachers like him! I would definitely take it again :)
I took him for Intro to Administration. He is a good teacher, he has a lot of great stories about law and likes to make the class participates in discussions. He is a rather fair grader for the midterm and the final but he graded the group project harshly. Be sure to read the book!
His class if filled with anecdotes that are always relevant to the material he's talking about, giving real life experiences. He doesn't always teach the stuff from the textbook, so you have to read the book. He tells you you how to prepare for the midterm, and is an easy grader. He looks for "key words." makes the class laugh. Lots of credentials
Semester isn't over yet I feel the need to make a comment. Prof Soroka is THE BEST PROF EVER. Literally. I have never laughed in a lecture to the point of crying. He will teach you stuff that you'll remember after the final. Always gives real-life examples. You are SO lucky if you have the option to have him as a Prof. TAKE HIM without a doubt!!!
absolutely loved him, only class this semester i actually looked forward going to. he's fun and makes class enjoyable and is also really good at teacher. learnt a lot
Good teacher. Funny. Goes on tangents, but they are related to the material. Big group project at the end. You will notice the fact that he seems to have had every job in the world, you and your group might even keep a tally. A lot to know, so read the book and go to class! But seriously, big group project.
One of the best teachers that I've had. He is very caring, and his lectures are very interesting. He really cares about his students, and wants them to succeed. Would recommend him without any doubt.
You won't regret taking him for 223. He cares about his students and is very understanding. Review the test bank for this course and you'll be golden for the midterms & final. Group project is an easy way to boost your mark & make sure to attend class for 10% participation. Overall great prof, would take him again in a heartbeat.
Loved his class, class is mandatory because of pop quizzes, but he is a very fair grader. He actually teaches the subjects and gives a lot of ancedotes to help you out.
AMAZING teacher. One of the best I've had so far in university. It was very enjoyable attending his classes for 223. Everything on midterm and final was viewed in class. He goes over everything many times and tries to ensure everyone understands the material. Very funny guy, easy to talk to. Definitely recommend. Would love to take him again.
One of my favorite professors so far since I've been in JMSB! He will help you succeed as long as you help yourself too. Participation is key! He loves making class an interactive environment, 100% recommend!!!
Soroka is actually a pretty good teacher considering he will often divert away from the boring old slides and use the examples in the context of his personal experiences of working. Midterms were graded decently tough though and he does do pop quizzes and sometimes if he sees nobody is in class he will take attendance for participation grades
He is a good teacher but very tough grader, if you want to get an A, he will not give it. His exams are very hard. Taking into account that I am not from JMSB and took this class as an INTRODUCTION, it was a lot of work. Marketing was something I was looking forward to, not anymore.
WORST! PROF! EVER! Since he wanted to finish the course early he gave all the deadlines at the same time. We struggled so much because we didn't know whether to study for the final or work on the final report! His instructions are so unclear and incomplete, you have no idea what he expects of you! Super unorganized and takes time to give grade back
Worst prof! All he accomplished doing was adding on stress by using threatening emails to scare students. If you think I am bluffing, try me. were his EXACT words. Dont know if this man feels the need to inflate his ego every now and then but I for one will never take him again and I suggest you do the same. Also, VERY hard marker for no reason.
Personally I didnt like this profs teaching methods. He is a very tough grader, even if you are normally an A student, do not expect to get one in this class. Also his manner of speaking to his students through his emails was also very bizarre and caused a lot of stress for many students in the class. Overall, would not take again!
he's okay
I found him to be a fair grader. If you have any issues with the assignments you can email him. He did not have fixed office hours but he is willing to set up zoom meetings if you ask. Also, we were not pressured to turn on our cameras like some other classes that I have had.
He is an amazing public speaker so you will actually listen in class. I took this class because I wanted to, but if you have no interest for it, it may be rough. He is a very knowledgeable prof and give some good advice. He definitely makes you work hard for a good grade though.
Exam- Are very tough. He gives you 48 hours to do the exam but says it only takes 2 or 3. It took me 12hours to do it correctly. Project- Very vague instructions and you never know what he Is looking for. He expects you to deduce. I would never take him again.
Exams were hard but my main complaint was the lack of clear guidelines for assignments. While this is a JMSB course, it's also part of an elective group open to the rest of the university. The outlines were vague - MANA 201/202 don't adequately prepare non-business students for the evaluations of this course. Nice guy just unrealistic expectations
Amazing professor! He's honestly my favourite teacher at Concordia I managed to take him twice for two different courses. He gives real life examples and explains everything so well that it makes you wanna participate in class every time. Fair grader, gives good feedback, very caring, very responsive. I highly recommend professor Soroka!
Prof Soroka clearly cares about his students and does his best to ensure that everything is clear when it comes to tests, assignments, etc... He makes himself available on request for questions and really goes out of his way to make sure that his classes receive support. His lectures are all available in advance for those looking to read ahead.
MARK 201, for an elective course that is not intended for business students, the grading scale is too harsh, even to the point of being outrageous
The course is not particularly difficult but the grading mechanism is quite outrageous. A little advice, if you are going to treat your students this way, please change all homework exams to multiple choice questions.
Nico soroks the eggster. Him hes a beast. Would stun anyday of the week.
Very tough grader, wouldn't risk taking a class with him if you want a high GPA
AVOID. Had him for Fall 2021. He held only 2 sessions live the entire semester. The rest were links to videos that he had found from other professors on youtube and told us to watch. Graded our progress reports AFTER the subsequent ones were due. No opportunity for feedback or to make improvements in the project. Total bare minimum prof. AVOID.
Good to listen to in class, very enjoyable and not much preparation needed. Group project descriptions can be very confusing however. That said, he does answer emails quickly, which I respect a lot.
Great teacher, I would take his class again. The material for COMM 205 is common sense so it's an easy course.
Unclear Grading Criteria - Doesn't provide feedback Doesn't grade his own papers, he relies on student-graders who don't necessarily follow outline Doesn't answer emails Condescending Get ready to learn the entire textbook on your own - He doesn't teach course materials
He makes such an easy class a hard one. Really though grader!!
His grading is alright, the TA grades the papers and is fairly strict. Do not stress about presentations as he gives out good grades (85%+ unless you were bad). His classes will not prepare you for the final exam, he typically talks a lot about his experiences and doesn't go through course material well.
This professor's communication with students may seem offensive. Despite teaching communication, he avoids eye contact and exhibits inconsistency, like advising against putting hands in pockets but doing so himself. His lectures often go off-topic into personal anecdotes, lacking relevance to course material and hindering the learning experience
Skeptical since he has bad reviews but he wasnt bad. 2 quizzes and assignment are fairly easy. Harsh grader when it comes to the essay part in the exams since he said 'if i cant see then it's not there'. Hard to argue for extra marks but i was able to get extra marks for both exams. overall, good lecture
This teacher is a little bit weird. He talks a lot about his law degree and goes through his powerpoints really quickly. His classes were NOT focused on the material and his TA graded the work giving everyone around 80%. However, comm205 is REALLY a common knowledge and easy class, the final was not hard and many ppl got over A as a final grade.
He doesn't use the book but gives you tips for the exam so you'll still do well. He is nice and brings people into classes you'll get free stuff
The professor makes the lectures interesting and frequently tells stories from his personal life making it fun. However, he expects you to read all the chapters and participate in class. The worse part was the midterm, it was very hard and we had to catch up for the final. Other sections knew what was on the final, our prof didn't say anything.
This professor was awful! There was absolutely not enough time to complete the group project, and he is super condescending when talking to students. He doesn't grade based on a rubric, but more so how he feels that day. I could not tell you a single thing I learned from his lecture because all he talked about was himself. Save yourself.
completely harsh grader for a course like this, especially as someone who is doing well in other courses
I enjoyed listening to his stories in class, it made the course itself more interesting! If you follow the grading criteria in the course outline and pay attention in class you have no reason to do poorly on assignments. He gives many hints in class, but you also have to do your part and read the textbook.
Absolute worst professor I ever had. Mr Soroka would come to class 9 times out of 10 to speak about his law degree that he did in New York, he would just go on for hours. And then he would start telling you about his MBA and narrating personal anecdotes. Except ok or high grades from his TA. But for presentations, he gives grades to his favourites.
At first reading the reviews I was worried I would get a pretty bad grade. All the exercises/quizzes are grade fairly easily (class average in 80s). This is due to his TAs, who are not as strict graders as the other TAs for 205. Although, his participation quizzes and final exam did not make sense, getting an average of 50% for both. still got a B
While the course content is fairly straightforward, this professor's teaching style can be hit-or-miss. Attend lectures, utilize study resources like Unstuckstudy, and you'll likely do well. Just don't expect too much guidance from the professor himself.
his lectures are not really useful, he expect you to read the power point by yourself.
Don't recommend
Bad prof in general. Lots of personal anecdotes I guess.
Although some people may not like his teaching style, I found it refreshing for an otherwise boring class. His personal stories from his professional career kept the class engaging and although he may seem a little blunt and dry, if you show a basic level of effort and respect he'll treat you fairly.
I enjoyed Mr. Soroka's lecture, as he explained the marketing concepts via vivid examples. The textbook is not mandatory, but it helps a lot, and it's easy to read. He is the only professor willing to provide feedback on the exam results (2 quizzes and midterm) by going through all the questions.
The class as a whole is based on a handful of projects and papers both alone and in groups and a final. The projects/papers part was pretty easy but I found when the finals rolled around I had no idea how this class can be tested and wound up bombing it. My advice: Don't underestimate the nonsense in the textbook they can ask you
Awafull. I don't recommed it at all!
