Speer is a pretty good professor for an intro philosophy course. He simplifies the material for the average student, gets the basics covered, and can sometimes make it amusing. The work is pretty easy as long as you come to the lectures and take good notes. He's also great to talk to after class if you have an interest in philosophy.

Wonderful professor extremely knowledgable and is truly passionate about what he teaches. You do need both books for his class and the tests are all open ended and with essays he basically tells you the essays and how to respond to them. GO TO THE REVIEW SESSIONS he basically gives the answers. He's always willing to help students too very kind

DO NOT TAKE HIM if you have never taken a philosophy class. He will make you get up and speak just about every class. His textbook is extremely hard to understand and hard to follow along with when he references it in class. He does a lot of comparisons that are hard to grasp as well. Tests are all open ended.

Good teacher, kind of boring but he tells you exactly what is going to be on the test and gives you all the answers the class before the tests. Tests aren't hard since he gives you a detailed study guide, you need the textbook because it has the study guides in it. He is kind of boring but class is easy and so are tests so i would reccomend him

Pros: Tells you what exactly will be on tests, even gives a study guide for essay topics. Only one 6-7 page paper. Cons: you will be participating EVERY class, must have the textbook (absolutely mandatory) because the class is basically teaching each other from the textbook, he didnt teach us. Also is not very clear half the time.

He goes over topics that will be on the test before we take it, so listen. Amazing teacher. Easy A and Easy class. Only three test: which consist of multiple choice, fill in blank and an essay.

He has a very odd teaching style. The way he teaches things is funny which is the only thing that makes me want to go to class. He makes you repeat after him. There is never a dull class. However, his textbook is impossible to read. It makes no sense. There are many fragments and run ons so you must show up to class to understand anything.

Speer is one of the best professors I have had. He is very respectable and easily approachable. He is very knowledgable and is willing to explain things further if you are confused. Attendance is not mandatory but definitely helps to understand things in detail. You need to buy the Speer book but he provides what you need for the Kant book.

His tests are extremely hard and material is on there that wasnt covered. 4 tests and 1 paper . This was the hardest class ive taken and im a NURSING major.

Basically, Professor Speer is the professor that gives you the absolute BEST "study guide" anyone could ask for. He gives you exactly what he's asking on the exam, you just need to find the information. Unfortunately, you will have to talk and work in a group every single class but it pays off for sure! One 6-7 pg paper at the end of the semester.

He's a funny old guy, has a weird teaching style. He makes you repeat after him. Has a tendency of asking questions while you're in the middle of answering one. Each class is a review of the hw, makes people go up to the board and explain each part of the chapter. Grade is based solely on like 3 tests and 1 paper

His way of teaching isn't compatible with how I learn. He has students go up to the board in pairs. One reads the textbook while the other writes what they're saying. As they're doing that, he'll drill you with questions. A nice man, but as a professor, he wasn't my favorite. One plus is that he tells you exactly what's on the test the class before
