Dr. Stanton is an excellent professor. He explains the material with efficiency and always makes himself available for extra help.All of his tests are curved.Also, you do not have to take notes because all the work is done on the computer & can be printed

It's true he puts his notes on computer, but its hard to learn when u have a computer giving u the answers and skipping parts. Math is made to teach someone by breaking a problem down and letting the class do so too. Plus he teaches to fast too!He doesnt!

Excellent professor. Class notes are done on the computer and are available to any student to be printed. This is great since it allows you to watch the math being done, not scrambling to copy everything. Invites questions and concerns.
the class is extremely boring.....all you do is sit there and look at the projector screen...1 hour is like 1 day.... The only great thing is there's no text book and test are usually curve.

Amazing teacher! The best in the math department! Although Linear can be difficult, just pay attention and do the homework - he is also very helpful. His book is great and I love his usage of the computer to eliminate note-taking.
This man is a sight for sore eyes. He is one of the ugliest people that Ive ever seen. His class is the worst, tedious. He stands in front of the class and does nothing. If you want a headache, I suggest you take this man.
I think this guy is a ****. He is not only an **** but rude. For the average student in math this is not a class you would have to take..

Good Guy. He answers your questions, but he talks in the same monotone as Norm MacDonald. Easy course if you know you're stuff. I never did homework once and got a 4.0. Just show up to class. And take the tests.

Horrible teacher, does nothing but use the computer to teach mathematics. Doesn't collect homework, makes dumb jokes, and is boring.
if you've never taken calculus before, dont take him. for a test, on a good day, he says he takes off all the points and on a bad day, he takes off all and more. if you've taken calculus before and are really good in math then you'll do good in his class.
man, i had this dude for stats and he was EASY!! his exams constist of 5 questions worth 20 points. Just pay attention and read the book. U dont even have to take notes, all his notes are avaliable on SJU computers.

His tests were somewhat fair and hes very strict. Theres no extra credit. He takes attendance everyday and you get marked if youre late. All his notes are on the computer so you dont have to write anything down in class. I got a B.

this teacher is by far the worst at SJU, and def the worst i have ever had. this class has no point to it at all. you will never need to use this type of math ever, and if he doesnt like you he fails you. he makes the stupidest jokes and there is no textbook. some have to wonder how he is a teacher

I dont get what everyone I complaining about. The textbook is given to you on an adobe file....so he save you 70 bucks. Second, all you have to do to pass his class is go and pay attention, then after class print out the notes and study for 20min before the test. Thats it and you can easily pass. This course is ridiculously difficult. Do not make the mistake of missing even one class or else you're screwed. For non-math majors, you have to put 100% effort into this class. Three exams and the last one is cumulative. He curves the exams but this is by no means a "FLUFF" course.

He types the notes then puts them there. 3 exams, each really easy, the exams can be predicted because all he does is take questions directly from the texbook. attendance only helps if you are not doing good on his tests b
Let's be fair to Dr. Stanton; he have zero fashion sense, and laughs at his own pitiful jokes, and the material is pretty difficult depending on your math skills, but there's an upside. No textbook, missing class isn't a problem because all his notes are online and easy to understand, and the curve high enough that it is almost impossible to fail.
You people who claim that Stanton is easy and that you should do well are giving people FALSE info! This is suppose to be Math 1000C, but it is not! His material total deviates from what Math 1000c at St. John's is. Oh and he does NOT give a damn about you, unless you're doing great.

he is good if u pay attension and go over the notes he writes in class, but puts u to sleep in first 5 minutes of the class. the tests r ok, most of the questions are from the book, which is online-so its free, but he might change the numbers.
He is an excellent math professor. Forget all the comments at the bottom that rate him badly. In order to pass this class, you have to do the homeworks. He gives you the test before the test date because the homework is the test lol. If you do the homeworks and attend class everyday you will definitely pass with a good grade. he's really good.
I think they are being WAY to harsh. He is not that bad. You will learn proofs that you never other learned in any math class This is not an algebra class. Three test, hw not mandatory & no book. He types notes for you.Yes he is boring and somtimes confusing don't worry the tutoring center will break it down for you.I got an A so its possible.
I have no idea how I had to withdraw from a Math 1000C course. I was an honors math student in grade school and high school. Dr. Stanton lost me with his stupid proof tables and refuses to write notes normally. Teaches from computer only and is utterly useless. Tests are all about memorization of the notes which can only be found online.

He's a very sweet old man but his math class is not so sweet. the proofs are confusing later on and he only uses the computer. brave the class if you want but be warned that you will be confused and probably disappointed.
Dr Stanton is not even half as bad as these people say. Yes he uses the computer but it makes it clearer and its way faster to type than to write stuff on the board for the type of math hes doing (proofs) The work is boring and may get confusing but if you ask him to explain or when you read the notes over its easy to get.Decent class, likely A.
Dr. Staton is a very nice guy and is a bit on the goofy side, but it works! The class is not what i thought at first. I was expecting graphs, and geometric proofs, but instead its all theorem proofs which I have never seen before this class! Its a nice class if you understand...if not find a course better suited for you!
He is such a difficult teacher and when he feels as though students are getting too high of grades, he will make it even more difficult because he is too cocky to see that students are clearly cheating. He puts all of his notes online, but asks difficult questions while he's teaching and insults you if you don't get it right. Good luck with him.
Great professor! The tests are doable and some effort must be put in for an A. he really just wants to see motivated students so participate in class and stay on top of the homework because if you fall behind then the final will be difficult. Other than that, hes a really nice man who is always there to help you and an A is very possible : )
He's such a caring professor! his use of the computer for notes is extremely convenient since if you miss any classes the notes are there fore you online. he is very approachable and will spend hours with you if you need the help. he also saves you money since there is no txtbook! i guarantee that if you do all the homework you'll get an A!!!
He's boring, but he's extremely easy. Theres no textbook requirement cuz he does everything on the computer. Attendance is mandatory, but if youre getting good grades, he doesnt really mind. He gives curves, which is good. He will get to know everyone and randomly picks on people.

I made a big mistake when I took his class. Stay away from him. He's not understandable and he will just put you down if you don't understand the course. The course load was strangely split up, he expects you to do everything and get everything exactly right if you even want anything close to a B-. If math isn't your forte avoid him.
I made a HUGE mistake when I took this online class. The work is ridiculous and makes NO sense unless you're a math major or enjoy that kind of stuff. He's not helpful and is extremely picky about how work should be done. He actually tried to fail me! I argued and he found work he "accidentally" didn't put on the grade sheet. AVOID!!!!!

If you have another choice in professors, do not take Dr. Stanton. He requires you to use his notes and does give any additional assistance outside of them. I a not a Math 1000C and expected to learn from this class. I did not. Even after help from other students, the tutoring center, and other resources and still do not feel confident in my grade

i took online course MATH 1000C. VERY DIFFICULT. very unclear.course supposed to help students not to torture them.
overall, this's a not hard class to get a high score soon as you hand in the homework in time and REMEMBER MUST participate in discussion because it is the biggest thing within your grade. he is not a great professor, but if you follow his requirment, you should be fine. assignment was kinda pain, I spent average 4 hours to do the assignment.

The test consists of 2 tests and a final. No homework or textbook, just lectures. He does all the work on a computer program and makes the notes available right after class. He's a little boring and the material may be hard for those who are not good at algebra. Honestly though, not a terrible professor. His tests are easier than you would expect.

Took him for both MTH2700 & CSC1390. It may take some time to get use to how he teaches this class. It's true that you won't learn much but his exams are pretty easy, doable. Exams are usually the basic level questions, super short. If you are struggling in these 2 classes, talk A LOT in the discussion board! Note: Use PC, NOT MAC!
He doesn't help you learn anything. He reads off slides every class and posts the notes online, but it's not like that helps you when you don't understand. There are 3 tests, of which are fairly difficult considering his horrible teaching methods. You have to learn everything yourself. Post on the discussion board for the brownie points.
Dr. Stanton's lectures were organized and instructions were easy to follow. I didn't had any interests in mathematics prior to taking his class but can clearly say that this course increased my understanding of mathematics and logical thinking.
I made an account strictly to write about this professor. Dr. Stanton was an absolutely amazing teacher. He is an old school teacher and sticks to the script. He CLEARLY states what is expected. Discussion participation counts for 50% of ALL of the tests. If you participate fully and get a 30/50 on the actual test, you end up with an 80%.
Unfortunately, he's the primary option to take Comp Sci, Linear Algebra, Intro to Math Thinking. If you DON'T HAVE TO TAKE him, run. I don't respect him as a doctor as his teaching methods are ewwy. Study hard with your peers, POST A LOT OF HELPFUL info for points in the discussion boards, flatter his man-child ego, play the game.
You'll get a concussion from slamming your head repeatedly on the desk during his lectures. His nonsensical lectures will cripple your ears. If you want to avoid a seizure don't look directly at him. His "antics" will make you lose an IQ point every time they occur. Put up with him ONLY if you have to for your major.
He's a very condescending and impatient man. Don't expect much help or guidence. If you struggle in math I strongly suggest you find another professor.
I struggled in the beginning of his class. Thank God I found a friend in the class who helped me pass. Any time i tried to ask for help I got blown off. He is very hard to contact and takes at least a day, and several more messages to get back to you. I may have passed but I'll let everyone know to keep clear of him.
Had a really hard time understanding the topics presented in class bc he literally just reads off his online notes. Gotta self-study aka. watch a bunch of youtube videos. He is a easy grader tbh. It's just the way he teaches makes it difficult for us to understand what's going on.
If you show effort, you will do fine. However, his notes are incoherent, and he spends way too much time on unnecessary topics. Very inefficient system with mandatory discussion posts, since most of the topics are redundant. Also, his lack of decency concerns many, he farts way too often and makes too many awful noises. Hue, hue, hue.
Rarely showed up but still got by. This class didn't help meh. He thinks he's helping, but he ain't. He thinks he's the source of your success. But I'm Derrick, I "worked hard to be this successful" without him. Put in the effort, and you'd get that $$$ and those grades too. Math For Liberal Arts online course. Must pay for $40 Software that's NOT compatible with MAC therefore had to use someone else's computer to do HW assignments!! waste of money on top of what you already pay to attend. plus assignments were difficult to understand. Just please stay away from this course best as you can.
This is one of those classes that you know from the first day you are gonna be in for some trouble. A bad prof that doesn't know how to teach. Uses the same set of notes and does not teach you how any of it works or why it makes sense. Really didn't learn anything in the course and would have failed if not for the free homework and module points.
I was nervous to take an online class, especially a math one, but I'm glad I did. There were no tests but teaching yourself math from a document wasn't exactly easy. If you're determined to do well you'll get an A, but you have to purchase a special software for the assignments. Professor Stanton was clear about what he expected and graded fairly.
This math course that I took was numerical theory. A class that only should be taken by math majors, so if you aren't one do not take this class. He talks in the third person and is just super weird. No one pays attention in class. He puts all the notes online so you might as well teach yourself.
Absolutely awful. Work he gives you is hard to understand, and then he basically makes you feel awful for not understanding it. Hated every second I had to do work for this class.
Had him my first semester & was afraid since his reviews are bad. I was really surprised though. He's a very intelligent man that really knows what he's teaching. If you actually listen or/and read through his notes you'll get the topic. Tests are easy and he has some special way of grading it that benefits you, trust me.
I took the liberal arts online math class. This class is an easy A. Don't listen to all the other comments. He is very clear with what he wants. If you do the homework that he assigns every other week and the discussion he assigns every week i guarantee that you will get an A. There is no midterm and no final.
I took it online and it is not that bad. There are no tests it is just submitting homework to him via email, but the program you have to buy is so old, it will just crash randomly (super annoying). His notes and questions can be very difficult, so go to math tutoring! The tutors know how hard his questions can be and will really help you out.
You have to buy a $40 online program that IS compatible with the new Macs, but it is very outdated like something you would find on Windows XP. Much of his notes and homework (alternates weekly) are proofs so definitely go to free math tutoring. It was very tedious to get the proofs just right and make a discussion post, but he grades very fairly.
Terrible teacher, relies on an expensive program that's terrible. Ask a friend for a code, it can be licensed to five computers, which he doesn't tell you, because he gets a commission. Your grade partly depends on his attitude towards you. Better than Gerber, which is not saying much, so with no choice, take him for Linear.
Csc 1390 was the only easy course he teaches except here he grades you very strictly. All of his other classes are absolutely difficult for no reason. He also has a horrible habit of not telling students what kinds of questions will be on the exam. You could only imagine why most students fail his exams.
Don't be fooled by the negative comments. Stanton is a normal prof who wants his students to study and do well. If you show up to class and do your work then there is no reason why you should have any issues with this prof. He might not explain things as clearly as you may like but he tries his best to help. Also, his class gets you to think a lot.
Professor Stanton honestly isn't a bad professor at all. He is a really smart guy who is really excited to teach math. You can tell that math is literally his life and he just wants to share that with everybody. I do have to say that it is hard to follow along with him sometimes, but he does try his hardest to make sure everything is clear.
Took the mathematical thinking class. Really not bad at all. Just read the notes, and reinforce with YouTube lectures. TBH, all of the concepts are easy to understand and you just have to get in the hang of the mathematical symbols.
Best professor Ive ever had. He challenges his students because he wants them to learn. He gives many opportunities to boost your grade if you feel youre doing bad. This class is stated to be an introduction class. However it is anything but, as it is math theory, something only for advanced math students. The teacher teaches in confusing outdated ways, does little to help, has been rude to people who asked questions, taken days or even weeks to respond to emails, and forces you to teach yourself. Dont take it

Professor Stanton is not the greatest professor, but his poor teaching habits regarding fairly simple computing made this class a nightmare. Focuses on the math before the computing aspect (despite needing to know the language before being able to do the math). Also, he always has an attitude when you e-mail him and gives more work than necessary.
Assignments are very very difficult. The readings are also very lengthy and hard to understand. There are no videos to help guide you to solve the problems as well. If you at least attempt to do the assignments show that you care and he'll pass you.
Being completely honest, I am not sure how there are any positive ratings. The notes he gives to do for the online work are extremely confusing and can be understood way easier online or on youtube. He is also very rude and hard to reach. This a beginner math class and he does not like to give help when it is expressed. Don’t.
Graded on 8 projects. Uses C++ but does not teach how to use it much. The projects are extremely difficult. He doesn't teach/show us how to go about them or help students with them either, he only offers hints to "help." Gives extra credit if you speak in the discussion boards. Projects are given and are due back-to-back, leaving no time to breathe
Seems nice enough as a person but uses a programming system so old that nobody has access to it... Graded on roughly 8-10 projects but doesn't really explain how to do them, all due back to back so there's no time to relax.
