Very interesting information. Kept my attention the entire class period!
No handouts, powerpoints, or any visual aid. Straight lecture.
Great teacher. Does a great job of keeping the classes attention.
By far the best teacher I've ever had. Watch out for his tests, though!
funny as hell! go to class and pay attention and you'll do well.

He's a very nice person and enthusiastic about micro, but how much fun can it be to sit in micro for an hour and 20? I'd advise taking him MWF if possible.
He is energetic about teaching. The class is not totally boring.
He is a great teacher for this subject. He is very good at explaining things. I would suggest that you take him for both Macro and Micro.
His classes may be interesting but his test are EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. Good Luck... I'd advise taking Keuster if the option is open.
He is a really good teacher and is really energetic, but the tests are hard. Don't wait until the day before the test to study. If you study you should do good.
he tries to be funny and pathetically fails, but he is energetic and nice. tests are NOT hard if you go to class every day and study your notes. tests are directly from the notes. hardest part is staying awake-but beware, he'll call on you.
great teacher. first class ive ever actually understoon econ! the tests can be pretty hard, but its a hard class, what do u expect. if u go to class and study, u should be fine. hes funny as hell too, i actually enjoy going to class!
He is one of the best teacher I 've ever had. He explains ECON stuff very clear and his class is funny too. I suggest you take all of his classes if it is possible.
He is so funny! He tries to make the course as interesting as possible.. Also, he gives a lot of notes, so write everything he writes on the board. His exams come from his notes + testbook(he might also ask random questions to make sure u go to class)..
Stapp is very enegetic and very nice. He will go out of his way to help you. He is kinda hard but a great teacher. He has won a lot of teaching awards. I highly recommend him.
You must be prepared to go to class when taking Dr. Stapp. If you do his and study a large amount for his tests then you should be able to receive an A in his class. He is a great teacher that really knows alot about what he is teaching you and has a great style of teaching.
Stapp is an excellent teacher. He knows how to convey the material to you very clearly. Very smart guy also and funny.
Awesome teacher
going to class is a MUST, good teacher but not easy.
Stapp is a very high energy teacher and he knows what he's talking about. I enjoyed being in class because there is not a dull moment. He will tell you what to study for the tests, but make sure you read the book a little before the test.
I absolutely loved this class! Macro is not interesting, but he made it fun! The lectures were engaging and he is a great great teacher. Take him for Macro before anybody else, you won't regret it!
He is very aminated and his lectures are interesting, however he tends to go off on tangents. He tests on random things in his lectures that may or may not have anything to do with course material. If you need assistance or have questions outside of class, go to his office; he doesn't answer emails.
Stapp is the best econ prof! I took him for macro and macro theory. DO NOT MISS CLASS!! You have to be there every lecture to do well on his exams. Exams are based mainly on notes but, you do need to read to fill in the lines. He is super nice but a little intimidating not to worry he wont bite.
First off, he hates teaching this class. The tests are 90% from the book and the other 10% are things he tells you will be on the test (if you pay attention.) DO THE CAPSIM STUFF. in this class only 50% of your grade comes from the tests and the final. Do every thing he asks and you will do well
Great teacher, but very tough. He keeps everything interesting. Just make sure you do all of your stuff and study VERY hard for the tests.
Horrible! Do not take him for B Found! He is no help and gives horrible grades just for the fun of it! He is OBSESSED with Japan and talks about it all the time! It's so annoying. Will fail you without any care. Heartless, Fat, Bald, and Single old man.... AVOID!!!
had to teach b.found because the wcob can't even hire enough teachers for all the students. The guy knows his economics and actually made it very interesting and fun for me, something I least expected. Now if he could teach finance too.....

Great teacher. I love Stapp.
Stapp isn't single... His tests are VERY hard and you will have to study for them to do well, but class is very interesting. The best ECON professor on campus. It's still hard though. Learn to love graphs and you might be okay.
BEST ECON TEACHER EVER
He really loves Japan. And graphs. And when you do crappy on the test he is willing to work with you and help you figure out how to boost your grade. This class is extemely boring.
does all of his notes on the chalk board for you to copy and he makes them very unorganized. This makes it very tough to remember certain parts of your notes.
Don't ever Miss a class with him. Robert Stapp best teacher ever, he explains very-well, he is helpful all the time. and I'm enjoying having a class with him. He is interesting in the class, he tells funny stories and so on to keep the class more interesting. TAKE ECON WITH STAPP <-- logo hahaha, Thanks Stapp
One of the best teachers I have ever had. Very tough, but just go to class everyday and you will be fine. Pay attention and everything he says makes sense. No need to read the book too much if you just pay attention. I think he is one of the best teachers WCOB has to offer.
Good teacher. Don't skip class. He is helpful b/c he tells you exactly what will be on the tests. but his tests are hard.
Kind of annoying, immature. All examples are about Japan, which becomes irritating - makes you say Y/N and count in Japanese only. Lectures are disorganized, but if class attendance = good preparation because he moves extremely! slow. Beliefs his life is the ultimate source of econ. knowledge, butnot bad guy/teacher, just sometimes irritating-easy.
Do you want to learn Econ in the right way? I recommend Stapp, he is an intellegent teacher, knows everything about economics. He will explain everything he need too. His tests are based mostly from the notes and a little bit from the book. TAKE STAPP and you will be in good shape
He is an awesome teacher. He is a little obsessed about japan and always refers to it with examples of business, but is animated and really easy to follow. Study for his tests and READ the green capsim booklet and you'll do well.
Kind of annoying, loves japan. He is obsessed with graphs. But is very enthusiastic and even when i didnt want to and tried not to, i couldnt help but pay attention. Go to class and take notes. This is the main source for the tests which are pretty difficult. All in all i have no complaints.
Talks to much about Japan, even though nobody shows interest at all because the class isn't about that. Adds irrelevant facts to the tests to make sure you were there, i wasn't fond of his personality, but he is a half way ok teacher.
The lectures were interesting, and you must pay attention and take ALL notes to do well on tests. The tests are very tricky. GO TO CLASS! He sometimes asks questions about Japan or anything else on test just to see if you were in class that day. He is very enthusiastic about econ so it's easy to go.
He is very interesting and animated. However, his tests are quite hard, and if you miss a class even harder, since his tests come mainly from notes. He talks too much about Japan. It just gets annoying at times. If you take good notes and go to every class, my guess would be that you would do fine in there.
Stapp tries to make the class interesting by putting real facts into it. He also talks a lot about Japan b/c he goes there every summer. Tests are comprehensive and require you to be in class. He gives out random information that you need to remember, even though it probably doesn't have anything to do with Micro.
Best teacher I've ever had. He is very passionate about what he teaches. If only they were all like him!
He is an awesome teacher. I recommend him to everyone. The test are easy b/c they come straight from the notes and he tells you exactly what to know. He is funny and actually likes teaching...I agree with the last person, why can't we have more like him. Seriously Take him!
Best teacher I've ever had. GO TO CLASS!
Stapp is AWESOME. Seriously one of the best professors I have ever had. Never has a 3 hour class been so interesting..I actually wanted to go to his class. The material can be difficult and so can his tests if you dont got to class and take good notes, but taking his class is DEFINATELY worth it. Get to know him outside of class..he is a great guy
Stapp is one of my favorite teachers. He makes class interesting and makes macro pretty easy to understand. I really liked his sense of humor. His tests aren't bad at all. Just make sure you keep up with the Aplia stuff.
Enjoyed his class. He keeps you alert and helps make the material interesting.
Great teacher. take him if you can
STAPP IS AWESOME! Best teacher ive ever had. I didnt do as well as i thought because i didnt keep up with the aplia assignments but he's an awesome teacher and he knows what hes talking about. He makes the material interesting.
Stapp is an amazing teacher. He emphasizes things you really need to know. He's very fun. Has a lot of real world experience. Will try to get you to study abroad in Japan. He loves that place.
BEST IN THE WCOB! TAKE HIM EVERY CHANCE YOU GET! HE'S SO NICE AND ENERGETIC. YOU HAVE TO GO TO CLASS THOUGH BECAUSE HE'LL ASK YOU RANDOM FACTS THAT HE SPITS OUT IN CLASS ON THE TEST.
Stapp is a great teacher who is obsessed with Japan. He makes the class more interesting than it is with his craziness. Reading the chapters helps and make sure to take notes and study them. Tests will have you screaming like a smashed cat.
Stapp is the best teacher. He is helpful and will tell you specific things for the test. KNOW GRAPHS!!! Tests are easy if you are good with the graphs.
Stapp is probably the best teacher I've ever had. Yes he is really interested in Japan, but he uses real life examples in class. You have to go to class to do well. His tests are strait from the lecture. KNOW YOUR GRAPHS!! He really is an amazing teacher. He's very helpful and makes the class really interesting. I'd highly recommend him to everyone
Awesome guy, really funny loves sports and JAPAN. You will learn a lot if you go to class. Have to do well on the simulation game to make an A, but the tests are easy
Good prof. His craziness keeps the class interesting, which I will take any day over boring. His teaching is pretty good too. Lots of graphs. Also, be sure to write down all the random facts he throws out during class because quite a few end up on the test. Textbook is not really necessary.
Stapp is a very energetic teacher. He knows the material really well and will keep your attention. Test aren't too bad. Make sure to do all online assignments. I hardly ever went to class and still made a B. Although when you do go Stapp makes the class interesting! TAKE STAPP!!!! He is a lot better than the other teachers.
If you like tests that are 20 pages long and cover irrelevant facts and minutia, take Stapp. If you like teachers who throw chairs in the classroom and draw on the walls, take this guy. This teacher is very arrogant and makes unnecessary remarks about people's socioeconomic status. Assumes you know everything about econ even before he teaches you.
Stapp does not care if you live breath or die or pass his class for that matter. He was seriously probably the worst teacher I have ever had and was the primary reason I switched my major. I had him twice. He is not helpful at all and really doesn't care about his students-if you can get another teacher-do it- its not worth the trouble to take him
VERY energetic and funny. Teaches really fast and only talks about graphs. I don't understand it but I'm sure other people do
Person below me needs to learn how to read and write. Go to class, take notes, and study before the test and you'll do fine. He tells you exactly what will be on the test. Enthusiastic teacher who loves his subject. I will definitely be taking another class from Stapp in the future
A great teacher. Very fun and entertaining. No textbook. Not everyone likes him, but I thought that he was hilarious. I'd definitely take him again if given the chance.
I love Professor Stapp! I took his Principles of Macroeconoms class as a Freshman as was not looking forward to it. He made it interesting and easy to understand. He is hilarious and not a class goes by when he doesn't make you laugh. He is extremely enthusiastic about his subject and keeps you up to date with the current world of economics.
He's very enthusiastic, funny, and good at getting the material across. However, there were a few days were he just left the US and made us sit in his class and watch a film that we were required to take notes on so that he could test us on the material. He thinks he's too busy to post our grades hastily or provide any attention to his students
Very entertaining lectures. I don't see how hard it is to go to class and take notes over a movie. Take good notes b/c tests are mostly over notes. He loves Japan so look out for it. Not a hard class if you go to class and study your notes; and aplia.
Took him for intro to Macro. He is a great teacher. Verry funny guy and lectures are always interesting. He has the ability to make people love economics. Tests are not easy, but if you study you can make As. Plus, he curves and he occasionally gives out bonus points to pick up the slack. He's the best econ teacher I have had so far!
Robert Stapp was an amazing teacher. He made class so much fun because of his enthusiasm. He's so funny. Just go to class because he gets the majority of his test questions from the notes.
Stapp is the 2nd worst econ instructor after Mendez. Shouldn't be allowed to teach upper level econ. Is a real jerk, usually screws up on making tests and can't do math. In a producer/game theory econ course we spent over a month on regression and he made us write out linear programming solutions by hand multiple times as large H/W assignments.
The best professor so far that I have had at the University of Arkansas. Very enthusiastic. Makes me want to come to class. Gives great examples and is HILARIOUS!
Possibly the worst professor I have ever had in any subject. His lectures are incomprehensible and just a random assemblage of graphs. I am an econ major and hope I never have to take this awful teacher again. Not funny, although he thinks he is, and treats students like 3rd graders. I don't understand how people can enjoy him.
For the people that gave Stapp a bad rating, you guys don't know a good teacher when you see one. Stapp is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He's extremely helpful, and while you have to attend class and take good notes, he cares about his students. His tests aren't too hard if you study adequately. Take this guy. You'll learn.
HANDS DOWN THE BEST PROFESSOR IVE EVER HAD!loves to use weird expressions but he's so funny and he literally keeps you in tune the whole time.coming into this class I was just an avg joe who was trying to get my GPA rite coming into a hard class, but he teaches so well,I pass wit a B.MAKE SURE YOU WRITE EVERYTHING HE SAYS FOR IT WILL BE ON THE TEST
TRUTHFUL REVIEW: Stapp is pretty funny and he knows what he's talking about, however, you MUST attend EVERY class in order to do well b/c much of what is on tests comes from his lectures. You also HAVE to read the textbook, b/c he uses that material on tests too. Definitely not an easy professor, tests can be long, but overall he's pretty good.
He makes the class seem hard to filter out students. It is a very hard class if you do not attend class. Book wasn't as helpful as his lectures. It is a very interesting class during our current economic time. Stapp makes you learn the material. It is challenging.
The best teacher that I've had so far. His lectures are very elaborate and even enjoyable. If you take his class, you'll learn alot.
excellent
I'm a pretty big guy but even I was extremely intimadated by Stappe on the first day of class. He talks a big game about how hard his tests are but if you go to class EVERYDAY and look over your notes just a little bit every night you'll be fine. Test our tough but Aceable. Im a fratboy who rarely studies but I ended up earning an A in this class.
All that I can say about Dr. Stapp is that there is a Method to the Madness!
Review of Honors class: A very interesting class, even for someone who had little prior interest in Economics. Lectures are a must, as his tests are based upon lectures with only minor input from text-based online homework. He puts up a tough front, but his test are quite easy with little studying. Take note of the random facts he says in class.
Stapp is amazing. He is nationally recognized for his teaching abilities. Take this teacher if you can! (Side note: His tests are very extensive. If you want a gimme class, don't take him. Only take his class if you want to learn.)
There's a reason why they call him "Easy-A Stapp." Tailors lectures to lowest common denominator. Thinks antics like yelling loud & flailing his arms makes him a captivating speaker. Finds a way to tie everything back to his obsession with Japan. Tests from a bank, & asks softball questions like "Who teaches this class?" Great way to pad your GPA.
This is the absolute best professor (teacher for that matter) that I have ever had. I have taken two of his courses and plan on taking many more. Stimulating and challenging. He may seem intimidating, but is actually very easy to talk to. Get to know this guy - he has connections. Again, best I've ever had.
As usual, Dr. Stapp brings his A game to class, everyday. He makes MicroEcon interesting, and applicable to everyday life. His tests are straight from his notes so attendance is mandatory. Between Aplia, S.I., and his tests, there are points just waiting to be snatched up. He comes prepared everyday, and displays an excellent enthusiasm daily.
I took his Honors Micro and Macroeco, and he's probably one of the best prof I ever had. Definitely attend the lectures since most if not all of his tests are based on the notes you took in class. His tests worth a lot of point, but they are pretty straight forward. He likes to talk, so drop by his office and get to know him a little won't hurt.
Useless class... went to office hours to get a clear understanding. He acted like he was to busy for me but yet could talk for days with someone about Japan. I don't understand why he has such a great rating. He teaches about a tenth of material that he is suppose to teach and is always talking about Japan. If you like Japan take the class.
One of my favorite professors. Class is interesting. He'll call you out though. Tests are long and can be difficult. I recommend this professor, but you'll definitely have to study to make a decent grade.
Probably the best professor I've ever had. He shows up fully prepared. Very animated and can be pretty funny. His tests are long but if you take good notes he tells you exactly what's on the test. I read the text book but it isn't required for success. 95% of his tests come from lectures and notes. Yes the random facts he gives you are on the test.
Stapp is a legend in the Walton College, and for good reason?he's the best teacher we have. Undergrad students are his life, literally. He thrives on lectures and office hours. High energy, eccentric, and passionate; he explains things well and gets to know students. Come to class, write everything down, study, and you're golden.
Professor Stapp is my favorite freshman year teacher. He isnt exactly an easy class because he does put in a lot of outside information but he teaches his material crystal clear and there is no excuse for not getting a good grade because he equips you to do the best.
Very animated professor. The tests aren't hard, but involve a large amount of material that comes straight from his lectures (maybe two questons all year came from the book). As long as you take decent notes and attend SI, you should be able to get the grade you want.
His tests are based on the notes. Go to everyclass and take good notes, you will be fine.
Showing up to class and paying attention should at the very least guarantee you a solid C. Minimal effort beyond that easy B.
Dr. Stapp is one of my favorite teachers here at the university. He wants you to succeed and will help you with any problems you run into. Class isnt mandatory, but you need to go in order to get a good grade in the class. His tests are really long but if you put enough into it, you can do well in his class
Nice guy. His tests were based almost completely on the notes, don't buy the textbook. If you don't take decent notes you will not make an A. Make sure to write down every single little thing he says, some of the test questions and facts we memorized were irrelevant to macroeconomics IMO.
Great Professor, really makes economics interesting and easy to understand.
Not too hard of a class. Is very redundant though which isnt always fun. His tests are tricky because he puts stuff on them that you havent talked about. Not a bad teacher by anymeans.
dr. stapp is so great! great class, attendance is a must, and takes lots of hard work but worth it! not the easiest tests ever, but he's fair!
Great Prof. Really knows his stuff and is entertaining. 3 tests that are all from the lecture notes. You don't really need the text book.
I absolutely love Professor Stapp! He is very passionate about Econ, is very funny, and executes his information clearly, but quickly. Attendance isn't required but it is if you hope to receive a good grade. I look forward to going to his class. Take him if you want to learn and be successful in your major.
Stapp is a great teacher who loves econ. Take very detailed notes if you want to pass. Don't buy the book because his tests are only from lecture. It's not an easy class but if you put in the effort you can make an A. You HAVE to go to class if you want a good grade even though attendance isn't mandatory- it basically is if you want to pass
I am taking it. 90% of the grade comes from test. The first test worth 300 points and we only had 1.5 hours. We had to finish 70 multiple choice, 13 calculate questions and 2 graph analysis( the graphs were not given, students needed to draw them) I go to class everyday, I understand every question, but I don't have enough time:(
Still the most animated and beloved professor in the WCOB. By the time you reach Macro Theory it's probably not your first with Stapp, but he's an Arkansas legend for good reason. Engaging, thorough, funny, and exciting—you will learn about econ, even if you won't use cell phones or the book.
Stapp is by far the best professor on this campus. He does challenge his students, but he is an amazing teacher. Comes to class very energetic and animated every single day. You do not need the textbook at all for this class. All of his tests are from your notes you take in class.
Stapp is one of, if not the best, teachers in Walton. He is fun and engaging and teaches economics in a very entertaining way. His tests are very long and comprehensive, but if you take the time to study they are not bad at all. Take him if you if you really want to learn about economics.
Stapp is a great teacher for Macro Theory! Super passionate about econ and makes lectures interesting. There is no textbook for this class and exams are based solely on lectures, so while there is not mandatory attendance going to class is a must. His tests are fair and he prepares you well. Put in effort and an A is very doable. Loved this class.
Good professor. I made a B. He had no text book for one semester to see if it made a difference, you saved some money but you have to go to every class to get the material. he knows everything well and has awesome stories. I would recommend taking him
Stapp is a great professor. No, not great, the best professor I had my freshman year. He is very very clear and has a good sense of humor to keep you perked in class. His tests are pretty long but the best way to describe the test is fair. He won't spoon feed you but all of the test questions he says in class.
Mr. Stapp is a great professor. The whole class is pretty much based solely on his teachings, but I learned a lot. We had to read a little bit from a book, but 98% of his tests comes from what he teaches in class. So you better go to every class and take good notes. If you listen and study your notes you should do alright. Work quickly on tests.
Gets off topic a lot, requires attendance, doesn't allow students to work on homework in class, bad-mouths mathematicians, never replies to emails. Easy class, though.
Stapp is the kind of professor that grows on you. in the beginning of the semester I hated his loud, obnoxious stories and forced participation but I feel like I've learned a lot and am glad to have experienced Stapp
The class is not an Easy A, but you will learn a lot and there's not a whole lot of homework. The class is purely based on his lectures, and he rarely even consults the book on test questions. Stapp is always willing to help students in any way possible. 100% recommend.
Grade is 3 tests, and Aplia HW Some Bonus, miss 1 class and you are behind, attendance isn't mandatory.
Attendance is not mandatory but it is important that you go and pay attention to "Stapp Facts." These are typically useless tidbits of info that have nothing to do with econ but WILL be tested over. Stapp is a great lecturer and knows how to keep your attention. Know your business terms, he uses them frequently.
Great Teacher! Very interesting, he will make you interested in economics. I feel like I learned more about econ by the first test than I had in my entire life. Funny guy but his jokes get old. Not the easiest class but he is very clear on what is expected. Very old school kind of teacher.
I think Stapp is a very good guy and definitely knows what he's talking about. I do no like his teaching ways though. He is very in your face aggressive and his tests are insanely long. Our last test was 2 graphs and analyzing them (which take about 15 min each) plus 95 multiple choice questions in one hour. I'm taking macro over the summer now.
Stapp's class is hard. You have to try, but you can get an A with effort. His lectures are long but very interesting, except when he goes on tangents for hours about stuff that doesn't have to do with Microeconomics, and then its still on the test.
If you don't go to class there is no hope that you will pass. He doesn't teach from the book so your only hope is going to class and office hours. Stapp is the best professor that I've had class with! Because of him I am now double majoring in Finance and Economics. I plan to take every class that he teaches!
Stapp is a pretty good teacher, and he is definitely passionate (especially about Japan!). Tests are super intimidating, but I don't believe we ever had homework that was not extra credit. He will tell you a million times that his grading is strict and he WILL NOT round you up to the next letter grade. But he rounded me up one point to get an A.
Dr. Stapp's class is tough but doable. I'm a first semester freshman and I did well on the tests because I studied after every class. You must go to class to hear what will be on the test. Everything that comes out of his mouth will be tested over. He has given quite a bit of extra credit this semester though. I would recommend.
Hands down one of the best professors in the Walton College and perhaps the University. Class is difficult, but definitely doable if you take good notes and pay attention in class. Take note of Stapp facts! Get to know him outside of class--he is a fantastic resource to have!
Dr. Stapp does a great job to keep your attention the entire class. He knows what he is talking about and has strict expectations of his students. Tests are based almost solely on lecture material with a small amount from a supplemental book. The tests are long (usually 100 multiple choice and 2 free response) and difficult but he is a fair grader.
Look, the class isn't easy, but it is worth it. You will be better prepared for any econ class than with any other teacher. He is also a very good teacher to know and tells lots of stories. If you take his class be prepared to listen to everything he says.
Absolutely enjoyed this class, despite its difficulty. Stapp knows the material very well, and uses student participation effectively to explain material. The grading is difficult, but if you attend class, take good notes, participate, and study, you will do well in the course. Get to know Stapp personally because he is a great resource.
You can't use laptops to take notes and he doesn't use any power points. He talks and writes things on the board the entire time. He keeps it interesting with his stories and random yelling. Great teacher and I really learned a lot. Online homework is irrelevant to the class.
This class is hard, but it is so worth it. You will have to work hard for your grade, but it is possible to end up with an A. GO TO CLASS. I cannot stress that enough. If you don't go to class, you will not pass that tests. The textbook is pointless for the tests, so go to class.
If you are an Econ major/minor or you are just taking it because you have to, Stapp is the man! He is very funny and knows a lot about Economics. He doesn't require a textbook and doesn't have lecture notes, so you have to follow what he is saying in class and what he writes on the board. He occasionally sets minor homework or research.
UMMMMMMMMM so I am all A student and had to take a W on this class but I bounce back, I will not be taking him again, beware don't be extra just take Ramen for the non honors section of this class
If you took principles with him it is a lot easier
I have a love/hate relationship with Stapp, on one hand I feel that he is one of the most brilliant people on the planet, but at the same time he makes his class and grading unnecessarily hard. He said on the first day of class that he hates how we put so much importance on grades and how we should just want to learn. but he grades VERY hard
Amazing lecturer, but he intentionally sets up his students to fail. Took him for honors principles of micro, and although I learned a lot I couldn't forgive Stapp for his tests. He doesn't give you near enough time to finish his exams, and he makes you memorize useless facts for the exam while you should be studying the actual material. Avoid him!
Stapp is one of the best professors I have ever had in the sense that he is a genuinely great guy, if you take the time to talk to him hell help you out. However, his class will be unlike anything you have ever taken, the tests will be multiple pages of free response, the class will only have 3 test and they will be HARD. TAKE NOTES.
He is a strict grader. He also rushes everything bc of time crunch that it doesn't allow for us to think about what we just learned. Talks about Japan all the time. His tests are super long and hard. If you don't go to class, you won't pass bc all of his notes are from the lecture. he doesn't do powerpoints or anything online.
The most interesting lecture professor I've had. If you don't go, you def won't pass. Super helpful outside of class. Super funny & respected. Tests are not as hard as people make them seem. Go to class and study the week before and you'll be fine. Incredibly biased, so if you're political be ready to be super annoyed. Still a good guy.
Stapp is probably my favorite professor at UARK (I've taken him for 4 classes now). His class is only him talking and writing on the board, but he makes micro pretty easy to grasp. Three very long tests, and a group video project (that is a ton of fun). Lectures are interesting and he is very funny. Kept my econ double major because of him.
The man thinks online shopping is a huge terrifying scam. Does not do anything online (powerpoints, study guides, etc.) Makes you memorize facts like what kind of car his dad had to take "attendance" on exams. Exams are designed for students to fail. He knows what he's talking about, but the class structure and his ego are both horrible.
He knows a lot about economics and I learned a lot, but his tests are so hard. There is never enough time to finish and he is an incredibly hard grader. He also does not use PowerPoint or any technology. I enjoyed his lectures but I would recommend taking a different teacher for ECON2013 if you want a higher grade.
Well hes a good teacher, and keeps things interesting. The reason Im giving this review is because I showed up to class everyday, did every homework assignment, studied hard for every exam, and I got an 89.5. This is the first B I received in college and I find it quite harsh that he could not improvise on an 89.5. Dont take honors economics.
I suggest taking this class if you're one of those people that does better when challenged. I have inattentive adhd and I thought I would struggle in a seemingly boring econ class, but Stapp is really engaging during lectures and made it easy for me to pay attention. Exams are hard and the random attendance questions are a little unfair sometimes.
Stapp has an overwhelming god complex. Tests over random facts as attendance credit (why I know where Mick Jagger went to college) and gives 100 MC questions and several free-response in 1.25 hrs. He recently went from 3 to 2 tests so he doesnt have to put in the work. Doesn't care about his students, doesnt think youll get anywhere without him.
Stapp has a very difficult class. He does teach well. You will learn. You will feel like you're learning. Yet, you will still fail his tests. They are extremely long. 100 multiple choice at a MINIMUM and dozens of free responses with detailed graphs and equations. Even 4.0 Honors students struggle in this class. Good luck.
Stapp is something else. While I respect his passion for economics, this class has guaranteed the fact that I will not be majoring in econ. The first test will destroy your grade and you'll dig out of it for months. Smart guy but also arrogant and condescending at times. Rewrite your notes and memorize every single graph.
Be prepared to not do well in this class. Dr. Stapp is a very intelligent man, but the way his class is structured makes it nearly impossible to do well. The exams are insanely long and impossible to pass and he makes you memorize random facts he casually says in lectures. Even the best students struggle.
This class was the hardest I've taken in college so far and I'm a 4.0 Honors student. In our case, he did a great job teaching the first two months. You have to be able to rewrite the graphs at lightning speed. After it shifted online, Stapp was not accessible . I recommend going to office hours
Dr. Stapp's tests are extremely hard, and make up most of your grade. However, if you pay attention and study you can easily make an A. He is incredibly intelligent and you will learn so much more than just econ. Don't take Stapp if you have test anxiety or are a really slow test take cause 100 MC questions + short answer in about an hour.
Professor Stapp is not a good professor in the online environment, he is not willing to help his students to do well.
Stapp is such an outstanding professor. Despite being an engineering major, I ended up loving econ. I learned a lot over the course of the semester. On the top of learning the content for the class, I watched several additional videos of awesome opportunities that the Walton college has to offer. It wasn't an easy ride, but I enjoyed it so much.
Dr. Stapp is an amazing professor. Such a smart person, he knows the material through and through. His tests are stressful (100 questions, a little over an hour to complete it). In order to pass this class, you must go to every lecture. He includes material from every single lecture on his tests. The class is hard, but I would definitely recommend!
Stapp makes what could be a really easy class incredibly complicated. Not good for the remote environment, does not answer emails, does not know how to use technology including posting lecture recordings. Unless you're a major over-achiever, I would try and get your honors credits somewhere else.
My peer mentor told me to take this class with him, and I don't know why I listened. His tests are rigged with questions that are meant to make his students slip up- his own words to another professor. Just take this with Burke and save yourself a lot of misery and disappointment. Why was the valentines day ritual in Japan an actual test question?
A straightforward professor, the only thing is that he consistently showed up late to class and held the class late by 5-15 minutes everyday. So if you're taking him, (especially in his last class of the day around 3pm) do not schedule a class after his. It either made me miss important material in his class or miss part of my next class.
In love with the sound of his own voice. Teaches in such a condescending way as if establishing intellectual superiority over teenagers is why he gets up everyday. Got his degree from Reaganomics and hasn't stopped preaching the gospel since. Be glad online is ending, he used it as an excuse to ignore students' needs. One word, egocentric.
LEGIT TERRIBLE!! Had him for an online course and he only lectured. No powerpoints. No study guides. Absolutely nothing to help. On top of that he never once responded to an email all semester even when I was asking for help or clarification. His tests have an insane amount of questions and they are INSANELY specific. avoid at all costs if you can
Great guy; either love or hate him. You will learn a lot and quick. Tests are not easy- study hard. Anything he says in lecture is fair game. You will not be carried. I really feel that I learned more in this class than in any other- not just definitions on a PowerPoint slide. Take advantage of every extra credit- you will regret it if you don't.
Professor Stapp is really into economics and even though this semester and his class really challenged me I decided to take my second Econ class with him as well next semester. He calls on random people during class to answer questions and make sure you are paying attention (both zoom class and in person class). Make sure to do bonus opportunities
This is my second class with Stapp, he is great professor. You have to work for the grade you want bc you are graded by 4 exams and some homework assignments. Be ready to spend a lot of time studying for his exams because they are not easy, but you will get a lot out of this class if you take it. The best professor I have had while at uark.
Awesome person- get to know him. Tests are not easy- study hard, but definitely manageable. Anything he says in lecture is fair game. You are expected to be responsible for your own grade- will not be pushed through. He teaches fast - but I promise you that you will be incredibly prepared for future classes & tests. You will learn so much from him.
Least accessible teacher I've ever had, but to be fair he was just learning how to teach in an online format when I had him (It was God-Awful). The material is really hard. You must go to class. His participation questions on tests are ridiculous. He's somewhat nice, knowledgeable, but if you want to keep your sanity stay the heck away from him.
A very knowledgeable teacher, but his tests are really difficult and they make up the bulk of your grade.
Stapp's lectures are genuinely interesting! If you skip class you will fail; this class is extremely lecture heavy, and everything is done on the whiteboard and not recorded. No slides. His tests are notoriously hard, so study hard and well. I've learned a lot from Stapp, and I wouldn't take ECON 2023 with anyone else if you're up for a challenge.
Best teacher I have had at the University of Arkansas. Yes, the class is challenging and the tests are difficult, but you learn a ton and it is super interesting. He is a phenomenal lecturer and very funny. He is difficult to reach out side of class but is always available for questions after class ends. Can't recommend him enough.
Stapp is the best teacher in Walton, but he can be very set in his ways and his teaching style. Attendance is imperative. His tests are massive with 300 points, and several open response questions. Stapp isnt as daunting as he seems and is hilarious in lectures, know your graphs and rewrite your notes and you will be just fine. Gives extra credit.
Stapp is a good professor that is passionate about the material. He gives several extra credit opportunities so be sure to take him up on them as come end of semester there's no wiggle room. He gives lectures on white board and doesn't record them so be sure to go to class otherwise you will miss information. Computers and phones are not allowed.
It's more of a history class than a econ class. But it explains why Japanese culture is the way it is and also proves that instilling a economic philosophy that works doesn't necessarily transfer to another.
If you want to be challenged, take Stapp. He is a great teacher, you just always have to pay attention and go over notes with a friend. Overall he has challenged my thinking and studying abilities which will help me in the future. I highly recommend him also because he also has a lot of connections and can write very good recommendation letters.
In order to pass Stapp's class you must go. He adds questions on the final that he states in class, and you cannot find them anywhere else. They are random questions that have nothing to do with the class. His tests are also 100 questions and are a HUGE chunk of your grade.
You can do well in this class if you try. Best advice is go to EVERY class and do EVERY extra credit opportunity. Stapp is a good teacher so take good notes and actually study them. Redraw graphs and rework problems from class. Test are most of your grade but they can be difficult because they are long. Biggest struggle was finishing exams on time.
Would recommend this professor to everyone. Great professor who really understands the material he is teaching and is always excited. Expect to stay after class by a few minutes every single lecture because he often starts a few minutes early and keeps teaching a few minutes after class is over. Have to take notes on paper, no technology allowed.
Such an amazing professor and he really cares about his students - mandatory you go to lectures. No powerpoints or computers/phones in his class so you NEED to listen when hes teaching. Almost failed the class but wouldve taken it over and over with him because hes that great!
Dr. Stapp is a great professor and I would recommend anyone to take a class taught by him if you have the chance. He is very passionate about Japanese Econ and I found the class to be really interesting. No technology or powerpoints in his classes so make sure to take good notes and really listen during lecture. Three tests in total for the class.
Dinosaur-ahh teacher, will not let you use anything that has been made the last 300 years. Random facts are on tests. Not technically participation mandatory, but if you do not go he will make you suffer. Learned more about Japan and how "accounting sucks" compared to Econ. He takes 3 decades to respond to emails. The Heisenberg Econ, but no Jesse.
The class is very test heavy, and I struggled a lot with the tests. You will have to study a lot, and everything he says is fair game. He loves meeting with students during office hours, so utilize that. He also offers a lot of extra credit and I would have failed the class without it. Overall learned a lot, and will be taking him for Macro too.
Super knowledgable and engaging, attendance isn't taken but you have to go. Lectures only- no slides and anything he says is fair game on tests. Lots of extra credit papers you should take advantage of. Grade is very test dependent. He loves it when you go to office hours and takes notice of who's engaged. Old school prof but worth learning from
Whatever you do DON'T take Stapp for Microecon. The other positive reviews are written by his group of "stapp kids" who worship this man. Take the online class please. The class is all exams, no other points are given. He constantly shows up late and keeps class late. He shows blatant favoritism to his "kids". The other reviews lie, don't take him.
Would definitely not take him again. Class is unorganized and readings do not match the lecture. Lectures often confusing to follow and he goes really quick. No technology allowed whatsoever so you have to write everything down. Grade basically comes from 3 tests which are super difficult. Do not recommend.
Your only resource is what you write down during class. No slides, or study guides. You will need to memorize everything he says for the exam. It takes him a while to grade. It is possible to end with an A but you have to stay very on top of things. Try not to let the first test leave you trying to raise your grade all semester.
Overall I loved Dr. Stapp!! However, his class was VERY challenging and I really had to fight to make a D, even though I attended every class and took good notes. Economics just isn't my thing. I was scared to take this class based off of other reviews, but ended up alright and now Dr. Stapp is one of my favorite professors! Study hard!!!
Shows clear favoritism with his Stapp kids (honors econ students). Didn't bother forming connections with students he didn't know prior to the class. Definitely knows the material, however he was very unwilling to help outside of class. I had another lecture during his OH and his solution for me was to skip my lecture. Condescending man.
Go to class and don't cry about it. He does good lectures that are interesting if you want to pay attention, he very much cares about the class learning economics and is very passionate about it.
Incredible Professor! Silly guy during his lectures :]. Be prepared to go to every class tho. He is traditional & does not allow any electronics (can use an ipad if u ask) & he does not use slideshows so you need to go to class to take notes. There is extra credit(its simple). You will truly learn stuff in this class. & REWRITE YOUR NOTES PLEASE!
As someone who has taken all 4 of his offered courses, if you are in Economics (I'm Finance and Econ) this is the guy to take if you want to learn. Lectures are dense but are so enjoyable. If you want to be involved in the Econ department, Stapp and Logan Miller are the guys to take!
I had Stapp for an online 5 week summer course. Instead of posting his own video lectures, he relies on students to learn using powerpoints added to Blackboard (w/o annotations) and 2 min video clips from the Pearson online textbook. He puts forth no personal effort to engage with is online courses. I ended w a 69%, dropping my GPA significantly.
Dr. Stapp is a difficult professor, but one of the best and funniest. You will learn a lot more than just economics if you are serious and pay attention. DO NOT MISS CLASS. Literally anything that he says in class is fair game for tests. He doesn't record lectures or use PowerPoint, so record them on your phone, re-listen, and rewrite your notes!
This class is no walk in the park, but taking advantage of office hours and using unstuck ai for study prep really helped me stay on top of the challenging material. Professor Stapp's lectures are engaging, but you'll need to put in the work to succeed.
Great guy and like him a lot, but do not like his teaching style. This is my second class I have had him for, and any class taught by him are very similar. He is super unaccessible, but he still cares about you and wants the best for you. Will not curve and you have to study his class and retake your notes daily. ALOT OF WORK
Stapp is a great professor. The grade I got was on me not his teaching abilities. He has great lectures that are super entertaining. The whole class is lecture based. He speaks in class with no powerpoint or notes, its honestly impressive. The best way to study for his test is by using the skills in his "how to study in college video".
This is just Stapp talking about his favorite things in the world- Japan and history. He talks for over an hour straight with no slides (sometimes goes few minutes over class). Great class to learn about Japan, its history, culture, and business practices. Econ but no math or graphs, really more of a history class. 3 tests, 2 small papers/projects
Stapp is a wonderful teacher! This class definitely challenged me this semester, but I learned a lot from his lectures. Do not skip class... you will miss out on many test questions.
Stapp expects students to be able to remember and note down anything he says and use it on an exam. This would be expected if he provided any sort of notes or slides in case you miss something while in class, but he does not. About 5-15 percent of each exam are random pieces of trivia he said once that you are expected to know.
Definitely a teacher with a controversial teaching style -- either you like it or you don't. I genuinely learned from him though and if you follow his tips on how to study (rewatch lectures, rewrite notes), you will get an A. The lectures are funny and entertaining, just need to put in effort outside of class. Not the most accessible teacher.
Class is all based on his lectures, so if you miss one, you're pretty much screwed unless you have a friend who takes good notes. Study with people, and practice drawing out lots of graphs. Exams are hard, but doable if you study. I learned a lot, but it wasn't easy. He's not super available outside class, so ask questions early.
No computers, only notebook or tablet. Tests are 75% of the grade. Spent 16 hours in the library over two days to get a high B on one of his tests. Minimal bonus. Class isn't mandatory but you have to be there to understand. Bro hasn't seen calculus since 1975 but insists his is right. No powerpoints, he spits it all out in class. Japan simp. Ego.
It's a hard class. Be prepared to study every waking hour. The teacher is a funny guy, and the lectures are entertaining, but if you don't take good notes and record lectures, you can pretty much expect to fail. The teacher is not very available outside of class. Form study groups and cry together.
I would not recommend taking Stapp. His teaching style is incredibly nonconforming to how you are likely used to learning, as he negates pretty much all use of technology during his lectures. I practically taught myself throughout this course by using the online textbook. -Egotistical -Unprofessional emails -Writes his own reviews on here
If you actually want learn he is amazing. If you want to have an easy blow of class and waste your money and not actually learn anything in college don't take him. don't miss class and do ALL of the extra credit and you will be fine. I got a 57% on my first test and high to low B's on the rest of the tests but I still got an A.
Do not take Stapp. I only made an A because I was forced to teach myself the material. Horrible teaching style and incredibly unprofessional for having a PhD.
This professor may be the most difficult professor at the whole university. He does not care enough about his students to upload ANY materials to Blackboard, to the point where if you want to review or study, you have to rely on what he taught in class and hope that the concepts aren't worded differently or confusing. Relies on outdated concepts!
Dr. Stapp is incredible. For all of the reviews that disagree, they are just mad that they actually had to go to class and do work for the class--shocker. Dr. Stapp is SUCH an amazing professor and if you listen and put all your effort in you will succeed. He is iconic and so smart. His classes aren't easy As but if you work hard you will get one.
Stapp is honestly one of the most passionate professors at the university. He is extremely old school and does not allow laptops or phones. That may sound alarming initially, but you will understand the material. His bad reviews come from people who skipped classes or did not take the extra steps to succeed. The only way to contact is office hours.
Stapp is extremely knowledgeable about economics and super passionate about it. You can't use technology in his class but the adjustment isn't bad and you get better at taking notes. I feel like I really understand the material this way. As long as you put in the work to study outside of class and do all extra credit, an A is definitely possible!
This class is hard. Even studying a lot and never missing a class, I struggled. He's obviously passionate, but I think he finds some weird joy in students performing poorly. I don't know, but it was strange. His lectures are dense, but funny. Your whole grade rests on a few tests and exams.
