Great Teacher, He cares about the students and their grades, I was able to talk to him outside of class many times about the topic discussed and problems in and out of the class. One great man!

he makes the class interesting, and i like how he is interested in what we think. very nice teacher and willing to help u if u need it. makes note taking easy.

Dr. Sterken makes the class interesting, however in our class he kept forgetting to answer emails, did not record extra credit he promised, and basically seemed overwhelmed at the end of the semester. Somewhat disappointing.

Had him for American govt. takes bout 15 mins with the social realm of UTT and Soccer alot. Great teacher. tests about average for a college level. he is awesome. Hardly anyone missed his classes in the spring which most people skip more in the spring.

He started every class by asking how we as the students were doing outside of class-with life in general. He didn't record all the extra points he said he was going to and didn't get the grades on the website till 15 min b4 the final.but good guy!

Dr. Sterken is the best teacher. You'll learn alot because it is a relaxed environment and he isnt uptight. Everyone will learn something because his teaching is more like conversation than stict lecture. You learn better that way.

Best teacher at this University. Has a talent of making something very dull (Amer. Gov) into something interesting. One piece of advice: Study for his tests. Yes, he does a review before the test so you think it'll be easy but it's not so study.

Dr. Sterken is a rare professor who really helps his students in his class and also with other class concerns not associatied with his. Pay attention in class and take good notes in lecture and take atvantage of extra credit and you should get A's and B'

One of the best professors ive ever had. Very involved with the student life. the only bad evaluation here must be from an outraged student. not arrogant by any means, very willing to help students. Very clear in lecture, provides ample opportunity for success. Stop by his office and chat with him.

Dr. Sterken does a great job of getting 130 students to interact in class. Class discussions are always interesting and stimulating. Tests are a little harder than you think, so don't let the laid back classroom atmostphere fool you. Great class!!!!

I love this class. It was fairly and he doesn't ask for much except to think for yourself and express your views clearly so he can't learn more about you.

Took him for UNIV1300 in summer 04 (1 year ago). do NOT take any other Freshman Seminar but his. In his we read a very good book (instead of philosophy crap like other Freshman seminars), wrote a couple of papers, and had a lot of heated discussion about interesting topics. Seminar is a stupid requirement yet he made it a lot of fun.

Hes such a great teacher if you can get in his class!

Easy professor and likes sports. Keeps you interested in what he has to say. Doesn't overwhelm you with his opinion which is good for a political science class.

I love Dr. Sterken! He tricks you into questioning everything you believed.

He is a very good teacher, he keeps you interested in what he is teaching. In high school US govt I passed with exactly a 70. This class I made a 87 on the first test and the second one was easy to. He tells you everything that is going to be on the test the day before it too which helps out alot, take him for your govt class!!

Excellent professor; you will learn a lot and question your own beleifs. You will be sure that an unexamined life is not worth living after taking this class. Not bad too look at either.

I loved his class!! He has a way of encouraging you to expand your thinking...I know I did. His Stephen Covey lectures were great. I hated for the semester to end. I would recommend him to anybody even if you don't need one of his classes for your degree.

Hands down best professor I have ever had. I am signing up for his other class in the fall. Even though I don't need it yet, he said he was teaching it, so I will be there. He has a way of making learning fun and fascinating. He really made an impression on me. I've retold the things I've learned to others.

Dr. Sterken is by far the best, most inspiring professor I have had. He plays Pandora during his lectures, making a relaxed, stress-free environment. He uses a microphone, so you never have trouble hearing him. He is always willing to help and is very understanding. He makes it nearly impossible for you to fail his class.

Dr. Sterken is the best POLS prof! He is fun to listen to, and harldy ever boring. Along with normal lectures he used videos and music to help get his point across. Loved every class period! He does not put much emphasis on tests, but I would prefer them to be on paper instead of online. Overall- one of the best on campus!

Dr. Sterken is kind and is very excited about life. He makes every day fun and he truly cares about his students. He gets off topic a lot but it usually leads to interesting class debates. He ends every class period by thanking his students for coming to class and telling them to have a good day and drink water. I am taking him again next semester.

Dr. Skerken is one of the most caring and compassionate proffs Ive had. I was an out of state kid in a texas gov class but he made me feel at home. He got off topic telling stories about being better people and showing TED talks. I didnt learn a ton about Texas gov but I learn a lot about being a better human. Great Proff, Highly recommend!

However, the tests are all online and most of the material comes from the book which is barely covered in class. TAKE this class!

Tests were a bit difficult, but you had plenty of time to finish them. I think the whole aspect of the class was great, I didn't even mind that it was a morning class.

I had Dr. Sterken for UNIV 3335, extremely easy class. The assignments were short and easy. You do have to complete a workbook through out the semester, just make sure you keep up with it so you don't have to rush to finish it at the end of the semester. There is no reason that anyone should get less than an A in this class.

Dr. Sterken was the first teacher I had that truly inspired me. I am not a political science major, but his class made me want to be. I have never had a professor (and I doubt I will again) who really made me believe that my voice and my life matter. If you are a student at UTT and you don't take his class, you have really missed out.

Dr. Sterken will make you work for an A but believe me, the juice is well worth the squeeze. His class taught me more than I learned in my first two semesters of college, combined. He genuinely cares about the well-being of his students (he always told us to drink water). He is the kind of professor you only come across once. Highly recommend.

I am about to graduate from UTT, and I took Sterken my first semester of college. I now believe that if I hadn't I would have dropped out. This teacher taught me to think about my life in new ways. His class was challenging but I think everybody should take it that can.

I had this guy for a summer online course for US Government. Super easy class. His book that he wrote is really fascinating and extremely well written. The only grades in that class were exams and one essay. That's it. Not much work is required for this class. The only way to fail his class is to not his read book for the essay.

I took him for an online class and am now taking him in class. Honestly, a very smart, unbiased guy who shares and gives credit to all opinions. Out of all of my professors, he cares the most about student's and their well-being.

I call him Sterkey. He is literally the best professor I have had to date. He is passionate about his field and is a published author (that he required you to read for my class at least). I would recommend taking him, and I would have done it if i could. He takes a paper response daily, which is how he counts attendance.

An easy course that consisted of Five two page papers on the Five Nations of Southeast Asia as well as a two-page book review of his book. The hardest part was the Final Exam, as it had seven short answer questions along with twelve multiple-choice questions. Quick to respond to emails and always willing to help.

I would highly highly recommend taking this course over any other honors courses to get the 18 hours required in your first two years. 10/10. You learn so much in this class. I felt known as an student and respected as a person.

I loved this class with Sterken. I took the honors version, and always enjoyed our thought-provoking conversations about government. The class does have weekly papers either over the Bill Ratliff book or textbook. The lectures are different than the work you do at home which is a little laborious, but it made the class different and interesting.

Absolutely LOVED Dr. Sterken!! You have to show up to class to be able to pass the essay exams. You will have to purchase his book on Amazon, for 30 or so bucks to be able to complete his assignments. Great class and cared about his students a lot.

Good class. Definitely wasn't too hard. 2 500 word papers a week. He really likes bill ratliff but it honestly isn't that bad. Very similar to a high school AP gov or dual credit class but Texas form basically with bill ratliff stuff. Would recommend.

I loved his classes, the topics he would bring forth were always very eye-opening and he seemed to really care about our answers to his questions. He was always very nice and made sure to ask how we were each day. I would HIGHLY recommend any of his classes.

For someone who hates having to do anything social studies related, I was very happy with taking any class he would be leading. Very informative and encouraging without forcing people to be carbon copies of his political agenda as many other professors less subtly attempt to create.

Sterken's class was a bit disorganized, but his passion for the subject and care for students make it worthwhile. The essays can be challenging, but going to class and using resources like the textbook and Unstuck ai are key to success.

I took this course online and really enjoyed it. All the assignments are essays but if you like to write I recommend. The material itself is easy and there are 2 textbooks that you can find for free through Uttyler Library. The are several writing assignments, 3 tests that consist of 5-7 essay questions between 250-500 words, and one easy project.

He's honestly the best teacher I've ever had! He makes it so easy to pay attention because he's super interactive and truly cares about his students. You can tell he loves what he does. The class can be a bit writing-heavy, but it's totally manageable. Overall, he's amazing—100% recommend!

Dr Sterken is the best! Very minimal work, but the readings change every year. We did Confucius, Aristotle, and Cicero. We were supposed to do Seneca as well but we ran out of time. Had to write about 500 words of reflection every week based on what we were reading and 3 analytical essays that were about 3 pages long. Highly recommend!!
