Excellent professor!!!!

Hands down an excellent professor. He knows the material and is very willing to help struggling students. His lectures are actually INTERESTING.

Relies on you to read all of your material from the book with highlights in PowerPoints. Spends time in class talking about wanting to be at a bar and drinking beer. Doesn't seem to be too interested in teaching most nights. Tests are 50 multiple choice questions. No essays. Provides scantrons.

I love Dr. Howard! I hated science before I took this class. Dr. Howard is the coolest, most laid back professor I have ever had. He is also hilarious! If you decide to take non-majors biology take Dr. Howard!!!!

If you can take him he's great your grade comes from attendance and quizzes with NO EXAM. Also a very funny man. This was my favorite class this year. :)

I agree with the others, Dr. Howard is the best professor I've had so far at MTSU. science is NOT my major (and I usually suck at it) but I made an A in this class. You don't have to buy a book and he gives you points for showing up. He is also very smart and funny so you will like him. :)

Loved Dr. Howard and this class. THe stuff on poison snakes was really cool, also HIV, water pollution and how the heart works. If you have to take a science class like I did then this is the course for you! A+

The rest are right about this class. I am not a science major but really, really enjoyed coming to this class. You will learn a ton and Dr. Howard is great to listen to.

Very tough teacher in this class, but I like him a lot because he cares about students and is good at explaining things to us. He really does care a lot about those that put in the work to do good. So if you have to take biology 1120 I would definitely take him. :)

I love Dr. Howard and would definitely recommend him to anyone taking this class. I hate science, but he makes his class interesting and so relaxed that I love coming to class and actually pay attention and want to learn. He is one of my favorite professors that I have had at MTSU.

He is a great teacher! Best science teacher that I have ever had. He explains the material where even I, who is terrible at science, can even understand. Often lets class out early. The class is very laid back and fun to attend!

There are no tests (just weekly online quizes that you use his powerpoint to answer)! His class is so enjoyable, and he really makes it interesting. Even though what we learned in lecture never really matched up with the lab, he still assured us that he gives the final grades, not the lab instructors. TAKE HIM!

He is an awesome professor! Easy, but also knows what he is talking about. Basically just show up for class and do your quizzes online and you'll get an A.

I am an older student who has to spend my OWN money on my education. In my opinion I got my moneys worth out of this class and more. Dr. Howard is fantastic. He knows what he is talking about, and is a great teacher. He let us out early sometimes but I NEVER felt like I was cheated. Love this class!!!! My favorite professor.

He was one of my favorite prof...s he easy to understand, great comuncation with students, available when you need him, always will help you...

He is very interested in what students think and is easy to reach out of class.I would reccomend him to anyone whether they are interested in biology or not because he makes it interesting.

Dr. Howard is an awesome teacher. He made the class very interesting and all around is a great guy! If I had to the opportunity to take a class of his again I would definitely do it! This was the best class I've taken since I've been at mtsu. The class has a great feel to it, and Dr. Howard is very laid back. There is no text book required for the class either. All you must do is come to class and you will pass. Very great class. I recommend anyone to take it.

My GF wants to take Dr. Howard next semester but couldn't find him listed....so she askd her lab professor and he said you have to call the biology department to find out which class Dr. Howard is teaching. Best Professor at Mtsu.

Dr. Howard is great teacher and really understands how to make his subject interesting, especially for non-biology majors. His class was extremely laid back, but you never walked out of the door without learning something new and interesting. I'd recommend Dr. Howard to absolutely any student of any major or GPA.

I loved this class. Dr. Howard is a great teacher. Besides, how many of your college profs wear funny t-shirts, drop the F-bomb on occasion, and sport old-school arm tats??? The man.

Dr Howard is awesome! If you want a class that's fun and simple, take BIOL 1030 with Dr. Howard. Also, if you could care less about biology and just need the class for a general requirement, take this class!

Howard is the best teacher. He is really chill and just wants to get to know you and see your face in class. No tests, only quizes, but these quizes were a piece of cake. No text book, and really his class is interesting. Never holds you in the whole class period either. Take him. Youll get an A and wont regret it !

Best teacher ever. No doubt. He actually made Biology interesting for me. On the first day of class he said "No books, no tests, no notes, I just want your butts in these seats." The only class work you have to do are the weakly 5-10 question quizzes. I wish I could take his class every year.

Well this class is for majors so I expected it would be hard - and it was. But I have to be honest and say the professor was very fair. I got a C but felt I learned a lot in this class. Prof. Howard is really a good teacher in my opinion.

This is a really good class. No textbook and no tests. Just quizzes and attendance. Nothing hard about just showing up.

Honestly I can say that this is the best science class I have ever had. The professor is so chill and talks about things that matter in your life, not just about stuff that only geeks want to know. I loved coming to hear him talk about all the interesting things such as snakes and viruses. Super cool class. Also no tests!! just quiz and attend.

My only problem is that Dr. Howard is too nice to the rude students who just want to skate by without doing any work. Several times I felt like I just wanted to tell them to get there sh*t together or just quit college and get a job at a carwash. He is a great proffesor but too nice for these students to deserve.

This was my favorite science class of all time. We learned about all kinds of things and didn't have to just swallow a bunch of stupid facts like we did in high school. I would take it again for sure. Get Dr. Howard if you can you will not be sorry. Great teacher.

Dr. Howard's class style should be the benchmark that all MTSU professors strive for. You will learn something new...old dogs can learn new tricks. This was a very interesting class. I really enjoyed Dr. Howard; he is a very chill professor. With that said, he's maybe a little too chill; there were several very rude students in his class that kept asking to leave early and took advantage of his relax approach. But, aside from that, I enjoyed his class. He is very passionate about this subject.

This man is awesome. At first, I was a little apprehensive signing up for this class but that went away the first day of class. This guy knows his material and explains it in a very simplistic way. Just come to class, be respectful, and be active and you should be just fine.

I you want to take a summer class and get a grade of A this is your man. No exams just show up and pay attention and do the quiz and you will get your A.

This guy is so easy. All of our grades come from clicker questions that we do in class and based off the material just covered in power points.

Great Professor to take for either Biology or Ecology. I had him for both, show up to class and study his slides and you will do very well.

I was worried so much about this class but taking it from this professor made all the difference in my world. It was summer and he went out of his way to help me and my lab partner with our studies. Thanks to him I was able to make a B in this course. So thankful for his help what a great professor to have! Dr. Howard is the best.

Great class. A lot of material involved but this teacher is VERY helpful in learning. I waited a whole year to get him but I'm glad I did. Take him if you can you will not be sorry.

I really liked this class and think the professor is a really good teacher. The only real complaint I have is with the simutext software we used. I wish we could have gone outside more but like I said overall a really good class. Dr. Howard is very helpful to his students and cares.

I really learned a lot in this class. Dr. Howard is one of the best professors I've had in my years at this institution. He really understands the material and so the lectures are very clear. I plan to attend medical school next year and believe this class REALLY helped me prepare for more advanced classes in the subject. Overall I rate it A+++

He is the best. Take him if you can get him but his classes fill up fast. Had him for summer one year and it was awesome not tests just clickers. Very funny laid back and made it super fun.

This is not an easy class but the professor is awesome. He was always helpful to the students and was easy to understand. All of his notes were on D2l and he gave all his tests back to us on the next day. I would definitely take this professor again for other classes in the biology area.

Well he's just great. I think he's the best instructor I've had in 3 years of college. I am enrolled in another university and took this class over the summer. We covered tons of material but he was so helpful and very clear in his explanations. There was another professor involved who was also very good. I have only good things to say.

I took this in the summer and it was great. This teacher is extremely clear about what he wants on the exams so I was never unsure about it. Also very relaxed and fair. If you decide to take it in the summer you can't go wrong with this teacher. I failed it once under a teacher who was horrible and made a B under dr. Howard.

This is not an easy class but if you attend class and do the work it you can survive. The professor is great and I really enjoyed him. Not a class for slackers tho so be prepared to work. As a teacher I would say he is one of the best at this place.

This was a hard class but the prof is very good and helpful to the extreme. Put notes on line and gave practice questions. I would def take him again but i'm not a major.

Took him in the summer of 2015 I had to wait until someone got dropped to register. So sign up early if you want in the class. He is the best.

Cons: If you want to see him you have to catch him before noon. He can be hard to find after that time. Pros: The biggest thing is that he REALLY does care about how you do in his class. He was very fair in my opinion and always willing to help. Would I take another class from him? Absolutely.

I was terrified of this class. I'm not a math person, but Dr. Howard made the material less daunting and more approachable. He gives several examples and allows you to have a cheat card. His tests are quite a bit more difficult than the practice questions, though, but as long as you try, you will be fine.

Dr. Howard is a really great professor. He really does care about his students and treats them as equals. He is also pretty funny and has a lot of beer stories up his sleeve. He also is very knowledgeable about his subject, and you feel like you're really learning ecology because he knows so much about it. The tests can be hard, though.

I really can't say enough good things about Dr. Howard. He spent lots of extra time with me outside of class and made the math much less intimidating. I really like that he will admit when he doesn't know something then work through it until he gets an answer. Also pretty funny and laid back and very approachable. He is the best.

Great teacher for biostatistics take him if you can. He understood we are not all going into math and so he put it in words that made sense to the class. There is a lot of work to this class but it can be done if you want to work. Dr. Howard rocks.

I had him in the summer and have to say this is a hard ass class. He can come off as hard but in the end if you do the work you can definitely survive. The best thing about Dr. Howard is that he is a real person and will help you anyway he can as long as you work. But warning if you slack you won't get far, just saying. Great professor.

Well I just finished this class in the summer and it was the hardest class I've taken at MTSU. To be fair Dr. Howard told us it would be hard from the first day but there was SO much material I thought I'd never make it through. But I did and Dr. Howard is just great. He can be strict but he cares about students and is fair. Great professor!

I had Dr. Howard this summer and man, he was probably the toughest professor I have ever had at MTSU and is definitely the hardest I've ever worked for a good grade. If you have to take biology in the summer he is your man. There is of course a lot of work plus the lab but if you hang in there you will be ok. The think I liked best is that he cared. Definitely take him if you can.

Took him in the summer after failing another prof. So much better can't even begin to describe. Almost didn't get in but somebody dropped. By any stretch take him if you can get in his class.

OMG I don't know what to say except take him if you can. He will scare you sometimes because he can be a strict grader but in the end he will definitely come through for you. Not by giving away grades by any means just fair beyond anything you would expect. He definitely made me work I'm a happy camper now and proud of my grade. He's the best.

The only complaint is he can be hard to find if you don't get to his office early, but he's really a great teacher in my opinion. Great sense of humor and knows the material and makes it interesting. I'm an anthropology major took him for evolution and learned a lot. Definitely recommend him for that class.

Had him for evolution fall 2017. Doesn't put notes online so need to come to class to do well. Also read chapters in the book. Gave multiple choice exams material from notes and book. Overall I think he is a great teacher makes the topic interesting and has good sense of humor. Would def take him again.

He is really thorough so you need to read the book and take detailed notes. Exams were multiple choice and he gave 3 of them and an optional comprehensive final. I made an A but really had to work for it. Enjoyed his sense of humor and love his colorful shirts. Overall, he's really a great teacher. I would definitely take him again.

Had him for honors ecology in 2016. Best thing about him is that he is easy to approach and has a great sense of humor. Very knowledgeable on ecology stuff but I though his expectations were very reasonable. He gave oral exams so he asked you questions in his office! I was terrified but it turned out just great. Def one of my favorite profs.

He can seem a bit gruff at times but I promise you he is in your corner at the end. I won't say he gives away grades but if you try and show up for class he will definitely come through for you. Very fair in my opinion. He basically doesn't just look at your scores but the whole picture. I highly recommend him as one of the best profs i've had

Invertebrate Zoology is not a walk in the park, but you will learn so much and it is interesting. The tests are hard, but there is a lot of material to cover so it is expected. Dr. Howard is such a great professor and deeply cares about the quality of his teaching and his students. If you are prepared to work, the class is well worth it.

This is a senior level class and there is a ton of material to be covered. I heard a lot of people complaining about how much there was but I think everybody like dr. Howard. He is extremely helpful and will admit if he doesn't know something then go find out for you. Overall one of the best classes I've had here. Also, one of the best profs.

Dr. Howard is one of the best professors I ever had. I took his ecology class and it was very fun! The lecture consisted of class participation ( clicker questions), ecology theories, and practical math models to the theories! The lab consisted of using software to complete assignments on ecology models and doing two outdoor group projects!

Took him in the summer session two years ago. What a great teacher, so helpful and encouraging. I highly recommend him to you if you struggle with science as he is the best. I still see him occasionally in the science building you can always spot him with his colorful shirts!

I have been meaning to comment here for a long time. I had Dr. Howard for ecology several years ago. In the middle of the semester I had a crisis with my financial aid and felt like I couldn't go on. Dr. Howard actually walked with me to financial aid and help me get the problem fixed. I will never forget that. He's the best.

I just finished his summer course and he is just an awesome teacher. I also appreciate the fact that he is incredibly fair. Definitely would take him again.

I came to MTSU this summer from another university to take this class. I can honestly say professor Howard is the best science teacher I've ever had. He told us from the start that we would have to work and that was true. This is a hard class, but if you his advice you will do well. I sincerely wish he was at my school as I'd take him again!

Well i didn't do so well in the class but i can't say i blame dr. howard. There is so much stuff to learn and not much time thats the thing. dr. howard really does care and he does a good job and is very clear spoken, its just a hard class in my opinion. i would definitely take him again for any science classes but I'm a chemistrys major.

Took biometry from him in 2016. I think he is very clear in his explanations. I hate math but did fine because he explained in a way that makes sense to me. Will be taking him again for seminar this year. One of my favorite professors at MTSU.

Love this man, his humor, and his shirts! By far the best professor I've ever had. He has high expectations for upper level biology students, but he's fair and if you put in the work, you're good. Lectures are always interesting, he explains things in a way that makes sense, and he's just overall an incredible guy. I'd take him over and over!

I love Dr. Howard. I took his biology class last summer and like so many others on here had struggled with this particular class before. He is helpful to the extreme and is always willing to talk to you. What I like about him most is that he constantly told us he was on our side and cared. He really does mean it. Such a great professor.

I just finished taking ecology with him and think he is a very good professor. You do have to work for your grade but he is very generous in terms of all the things he things he takes into consideration. I will graduate this term and can say he is definitely one of the finest teachers I had in the biology department. I highly recommend him.

Dr. Howard is an a amazing person. He´s really down to earth, to the point, and super funny. His class is really hard, but he's a really reasonable guy. he gives points back sometimes on tests and he always encourages you to go see him if you think you should have gotten higher on your test. He´ll discuss it with you. over all you´ll love him.

Ecology couldve easily been boring, but Dr. Howard made it something I looked forward to. Easy class, made easier by the best professor at MT. If you can find something negative about this guy, you shouldve spent more time with your book. Read the chapters, go over the PowerPoints before the tests, and youll have an A. I promise you.

Dr. Howard is a legit guy. He is straight forward and fair. His class is harder than most other professors in the sense you have to read, put in the time to study for his test. if you don't put in the effort its really easy to not do well in this class, that being said... if he sees you are a diligent, hardworking student he´ll meet you halfway!

He's a really funny professor and makes a pretty boring class interesting. He has TONS of in class and online notes for a test that's only 50 multiple choice questions, but if you come to every class and email him, he'll give you a HUGE curve on your final grade. There were only 4 exams and the final was optional, but they were extremely difficult.

Honestly I dont think I could have pass this class if it wasnt for Dr. Howard helping me. I was in his class almost every day after lecture asking him questions and he always helped me. I would take him again in a heartbeat he is just great in my opinion.

I don't even know where to begin. Dr. Howard is one of the kindest professors you can have. He is a GREAT teacher plus a great human being in my opinion. I had problems at home and at work and he actually worked with me so that I could pass his class with a respectable grade. If you can get him in the summer grab it before it fills up. Awesome

I had him for an honors class last year and really enjoyed the experience. There were only a few students in the class so there was a lot more time to interact with the professor. We did SimUText for most of the labs but we also went outside somedays. No written exams! Instead we had oral exams and SimUText. Dr. Howard is awesome.

Dr. Howard is a really awesome professor! He will work with you any way that he can if you're a good student. If he sees you trying, he will meet you halfway. His tests are pretty tough and he does expect you to read the textbook. You have to read to know the answers to the study questions which are the test. Invertebrate zoology is a good class!

I cant say enough great things about Dr. Howard. He doesnt hand out grades and you must put in the work to do well, but if he knows youre trying he will ALWAYS be in your corner! Lectures are interesting, hes hilarious and overall just a good guy. Theres a reason 96% of us would take him again. MT is so lucky to have him!

Great class from a professor who actually cares about his students. Actually, this is the third class I've taken from him and he is one of the best professors in the biology department in my opinion. He expects a lot but is always willing to go the extra mile if you work and take class seriously. You won't regret taking him.

This was a hard class and there were times I wanted to drop but he encouraged me to hang in and I'm glad I did. There is SO much material but Dr. Howard cares about whether you do well. I will definitely take him again!!!!

Well good luck if you are a slacker in this class. He puts notes and powerpoint online so that helps - but you have to know a lot to do well. Tests multiple choice and not easy. Best thing is that he is fair and will help you. I do like him as a person and teacher and would take him again.

I'm taking his class now and have to say he is very organized and gives good lectures. He does not distribute his powerpoints so you have to take very good notes. This is definitely a hard class and I have to study weeks ahead of the exams but so far I'm making decent grades. I really like Dr. Howard as a teacher he's definitely one of the best.

His material is not easy and some may find it really difficult but he gives the information clearly and in the best way! He told us exactly what to do and if you followed his instruction you really cant go wrong. There is a lot of material that you will be responsible for in this class so if you mess around you are going to get behind. I like him and would take him again if I was a biology major

I can see why the students have such regard for this man. I am taking him now for an honors class and it is by far the best experience Ive had at this university. He is hilarious and you can tell he genuinely enjoys teaching. He also is extremely knowledgeable of the material and is an excellent lecturer.

Howard is a wonderful professor. He is really tough and wants a very specific answer. All I can say is that you must memorize the powerpoints to a tee. He also moves extremely quickly, I would suggest printing out the powerpoints before class and taking extra notes on that. He's funny and genuinely cares about his students

I made a D in his class. The material was Very hard. If youre good at memorizing then youll do good. Dr Howard is very nice and he definitely knows what hes doing but the material in general is just hard. Ill be retaking the class with him again. I definitely put in the work for this class but it was hard to memorize all of the material.

This is a lecture class, so in regards to your preperation for the major tests, the professer is very helpful. He does go throughinformation fast, so I recommend printing out the powerpoints ahead of time, and directly taking notes on them to keep up. If you pay attention inclass, and study what he tells you to, you should be fine.

Dr. Howard is absolutely amazing. He's funny, very knowledgeable, and overall great. Textbook isn't required for his class, but he told us we would probably need it for lab- not his rules. Would definitely take again!

Dr. Howard is so funny & always makes class "worth your money!" Attendance is not required; however, there will be questions on his tests that you'll only know if you attend lecture. No book is needed, and he allows you to use a page of notes on every test. He loves what he does & he wants you to love the class! Take notes & you will make an A!

I have really enjoyed this class and I am not a science major. I especially like the professors sense of humor. He is extremely knowledgable and also funny. He'll curse like a sailor sometimes but he's hilarious. I really like the lectures on venomous snakes although some of those videos were scary for me to watch! I had to close my eyes once!

Dr. Howard was a great professor for me and I loved having him. I hate science but he made it easy to learn and I always loved going to his class. He's just an overall great guy. Even in a class of 100+ he still knew my name when I stopped by his office. He makes sure everyone is treated fairly and has the chance to pass. Plus he likes TOOL and TOOL is great.

This is not an easy class by any stretch. There is TONS of material. Dr. Howard obviously knows his material and is a very good explainer so I have no problem with him. I do think the biology dean should cut down the amount of material in these biology and chemistry courses. As for a teacher I give Dr. Howard a thumbs up. He's def great.

I worked my butt off and made an "A". There is a lot of material because it is a foundational course covering plant and animal biology. Dr. Howard is an exceptional instructor. He is always prepared, knows his stuff, and is available outside of lecture. He has high standards but this is NOT a high-school course. I feel lucky to have had him!

We are in the middle of this crisis and professor Howard is SO understanding and helpful. He actually gave the whole class his cell phone number and told us to call him if we need to. In the middle of the pandemic, Dr. Howard has been by far the most understanding and helpful professor! Definitely a difficult class, but Steve wants students to succeed and cares about each student individually. He even gave us his phone number in case of an emergency. TRULY A GEM! He is hilarious and personable and definitely is knowledgable.

Probably one of the best biology professors in the whole department. Not only is he funny, but he is caring towards his students' education. I took him in Spring 2020 when we switched to online bc of the pandemic. He was totally understanding. He really focuses on what you learned rather than memorized. Provides amazing notes and pps I still use.

In Fall 2019, I almost gave up taking honor classes due to previous professors but this professor brought all hope back. He genuinely cares about his students and wants us to achieve the highest quality of education. His notes are amazing and his class was never boring. He is hilarious and his storytimes related to the course material helps you.

Dr. Howard (aka Mr. Steve) is the most down to earth professor I've ever had. He has clear expectations and constantly gives his students chances to better their grades and succeed in this course. To get top marks, full comprehension of the material is required. However, class is engaging and nothing is put on exams that he hasn't said in lecture.

Dr. Howard was great during the summer. The course was all online because of the virus and so was the lab. He made everything clear and grading was extremely fair. I would recommend him to anyone that wants to pass this class with a good grade.

Dr. Steve was great. Because of COVID, biometry was online, which was not easy. He gave everyone tons of chances to succeed. He let us retake a test, and gave an optional final to bring grades up. Extremely caring and wanted everyone to do well. Would definitely take again, pandemic or no pandemic.

I took professor Howard for a summer class during the pandemic and am very happy with my experience. He was organized and covered the material in enough depth but was extremely reasonable when it came to tests. The summer session moves fast but he made it possible to keep up and maintain your gpa. I would take him again in a heartbeat.

I have had the pleasure of taking steve twice now once for bio 2 and once for biometry. He is such a good teacher he truly cares about his students. I can even give an example. One night like two days before an exam I was struggling with something for biometry he got on a zoom call at like 10 pm and helped me figure it out. truly a great teacher.

Dr. Howard can be a little scattered at times but that was not a problem for me. His major strength is his compassion and understanding for his students. He will SO go out of his way to help if you are experiencing problems in the course or just in life for that matter. He will do everything he can to help you pass his class. He's great.

Honestly I was scared to death due to so much material being covered in such a short time I hardly had time to do anything else. In the end it turned out ok because Dr. Steve is such a great teacher. Where do I start? Love this man! Hilarious and treats students with kindness and respect. I had issues with finding a babysitter and he was SO understanding. Gave me a copy of his personal notes and allowed me to make up 2 missed tests. Plus, his talks were always interesting, especially the ones on the snakes and sharks.

Dr. Howard is the best. He is so easy to talk to and will help you with any of the material and also just talk to you like a person. Whenever I am in the science building I swing by his office and if he is in I say hello and talk to him. He is just a really nice person and cares about students to the point of understanding.

Howard is an amazing professor. He only has 4 tests for the semester, and he gives you a front + back of a paper for notes to use on them. You never have to go to class because all of the notes are on D2L. If you do go to class, he usually only makes it about 40 mins long. He's very funny and very kind.

This was a very hard class. Dr. Howard provided constant encouragement without which I would have dropped the class. I think he was incredibly fair and generous in assigning final grades. Great sense of humor and definitely knows his biology.

Nobody likes senior seminar but Dr. Howard made if somewhat interesting. We read a book on fraud in science and had some class discussions. He clearly likes students and goes out of his way to make sure everyone is treated fairly and with respect. One of my favorite teachers during my 5 years at MTSU.

I had him the the fall of 2022 for bio 1030 and really enjoyed his class! Not being a science nerd I really appreciated him teaching the class in a way that made it easy to pass but also interesting. I am afraid of snakes but learned a lot about how snakes are actually good in some places where they eat lots of rats. He is easy to talk to.

This is the hardest class I've taken so far but the professor is awesome. He was always encouraging everyone and was always ready to talk when I approached him. He said the class was like a marathon race and you had to stay running to finish. I hung in there and got a B even after I bombed the first 3 tests. I would definitely take him again.

The best thing about Dr. Howard is his willingness to discuss with students any aspect of his course. I went to his office many times to talk about exams and he was always happy to discuss with me any concerns I had. Sometimes he would add points back to my scores after I had explained to him why my answer might have come up short. He's great.

Took the honors course and he is such a great professor that understands the importance of teaching things in a hands-on way. Only have a midterm, final, and a few homework grades. A lot of your final grade comes from your participation and effort in class so make sure to show up and stay engaged. Very fun class and very fun professor

Pros: cared about me as student, didn't act like we all lived and died by science, funny and very nice Cons: could be a bit disorganized, tells corny jokes that are really stupid but have to admit funny He is overall chill and I would def take him again for science.

Dr. Howard was great during summer evolution class. Very relaxed and chill professor we had daily quizzes and three exams. He let us use a page of notes on the exams which helped me a lot.

Professor Howard aka Steve is the best professor I've had at MTSU. He is super cool and if you are into hunting and guns he is your man. Not at all your usual dry college professor! Took his class my freshman year and still stop by his office when I'm on campus. If you need a science class take him you won't regret it.

I had him for senior seminar fall 2023 and he was great. Everybody hates the oral exam but he made it much less stressful than it was for students in other sections. Basically we just had to show up for class, discuss some assignments he gave us, and take the oral exam. Cool prof, very reasonable and laid back.

All of us thought we were going to die in his class but in the end everything turned out ok. Honors 1120 is a LOT of work but he is a good lecturer and is very fair in his grading. He uses a grading scale of 92 - 100 A so that is a bit scary but he backed off at the end of the semester. Really one of my favorite professors. He does care.

I just found out today that I made A in his class. He is so understanding for his student scared me at first but lol he is so great. thank you dr. professor Howard!

He is very encouraging throughout the semester. He may seem at first, but he will help you out. His exams are hard and you do have to know the PowerPoints well. All multiple choice. Go to his office hours and have a good relationship with him. He really is helpful when it comes to your grade. You will definitely have to put in work.

He is knowledgable and gives students access to his PPT's. They are detailed and if study them along with the notes you take in class you will do well. I went by his office many times to ask questions and he was always helpful and willing to listen. I especially appreciated his brief discussion of racism in science - that was eye opening.

Dr. Howard is great. He is extremely knowledgable and will go the extra mile to help you IF YOU DO THE WORK. This is NOT a class for slackers. But if you want to learn biology you should take him. He does not treat students like high schoolers and expects you do the work.

To be perfectly honest at first I didn't care for him because I thought he was too picky and the tests didn't seem to match the ppt notes he posted for us to study. Toward the end of the semester he gave bonus points and actually curved some of his test so I feel much different now and he's one of my favorite professors. I would retake him again.

This class is very easy if you put in the work! There is no homework, so the grade is based only on exams and lab, but he allows a cheat sheet (front and back of a printer paper) so you don't really need to memorize alot. He also has gone out of his way to help improve our exam grades by putting less material on the exams.

He is one of my favorite professors at MTSU. I have stopped by his office many times this semester to talk and he is always willing to give me encouragement. I think some people are intimidated by him, but he is really a very nice person. He definitely knows the biology and is good at explaining things.

The class is challenging, but Dr. Howard is approachable and willing to help. The material is dense, so using study aids like unstuckstudy ai, along with attending office hours, can really pay off.

I'm taking him now and really like him. He's very nice to students and treats them with respect unlike some situations around here I don't feel afraid to ask a question. There is lots of chemistry in here which I didn't expect honestly but the professors is a good explainer so not so bad. I would highly recommend him if you work you should be ok

I'm taking him right now for 1110, not 1120, but 110 wasn't an option. He is a great professor. His explanations are very clear and we know exactly what is going to be covered on the exams. I really appreciate that he is willing to spend time with me going over the exams as I have been to his office after every one of them. Very approachable.

Great person but class does hold a bit of difficulty. He will adjust according to the class though which I love because a lot of professors don't care about class performance and look at it as we (the students) aren't trying hard enough. He definitely showed he cares about his students and truly doesn't want you to do/feel bad in/about his course.

Such an encouraging professor. I talked to him many times during the semester and he always gave me positive encouragement - I was struggling with family issues at the time and he allowed me to makeup missed work. Really a nice man and highly recommend him, His class was hard but if you put the work in you will be fine.

Dr. Howard treated us very kindly. He lectures quickly, but posts his slides. He doesn't record lectures and will sometimes mention content not on the slides. Ask him for a page of notes, and you might be able to use them on the tests. I thought the class was difficult due to the few grades, but he grades you for your effort as well.

Took him for senior seminar. I loved his explanation as to why using big words to impress is evidence of what he calls "edubabble". He showed me some abstracts from "edubabble" papers that were hilarious. I also loved the paper on "Cargo Cult Science" by the Nobel guy but I can't remember his name. Great guy, great class!!!!

Not your typical professor for sure!!! Has anti-woke stickers and pictures of him with wild pigs he shot on his office door!!!!!! Super easy to talk with and willing to help students. One of my favorite professors on campus!

His goal is to help everyone pass, and his lectures are easy to understand, but he does move a little fast. The only con is your whole grade depends on 4 test.

I feel like I am learning a lot but without having to experience the anxiety that I experience with other science classes (chemistry especially). He is very approachable and down to earth. Dr. Howard is a great professor! He cares about students and it's pretty hard to fail his class. Grades were based on 5 exams and your lab grade. He gives everyone a 100% for lab which is helpful! The exams are tough so it can be stressful, so you have to study a lot and you get a choice of 10 extra points or a page of notes front and back.

Just had him for honors 1110 and taking him again next year for 1120. He is great at explaining and always has words of encouragement. That is what I appreciate the most about him. He always has something positive to say and never makes students feel stupid or dumb. My favorite professor.

Among other things, I loved his explanation of the relationship between science and faith. His opinion is that the two don't have to be in conflict - each has its role in answering important questions, just not the same ones. He did not denigrate those of us that hold religious beliefs and I respect him for that. What a breath of fresh air. :)

Grades came from 5 tests and lab. He was more than generous letting us use a page of handwritten notes or add 10 pts - you pick.
