I was the only white person in this class, but it was one of the most interesting I have ever taken. Easy class. Practically no homework.
I enjoyed prof torres class on early ca history would highly recommend students to take classes with him
Mr.Torres loves his job, and he loves teaching it over and over again. If you don't get an A in his class it's because you didn't try! He's Great!
Torres is an awesome teacher. Take his class you won't regret it.
cool guy. his class is so easy. everything about notes is on the test. he makes it easy and understanding. his tests are the same as the final and he drops the lowest test score. i highly recommend him.
He is the BEST! he loves his job and makes you love learning about chicano history. There is no homework except for one report which was the easiest report i have ever done. The tests are easy and he tells you everything you should know. i got an a.
HE IS GREAT HIS WAY OF TALKING GETS YOU PUMPED UP TO LEARN. LOVES TO HAVE A GOOD TIME DURING HIS CLASS. JUST WRITE DOWN EVERY WORD THAT COMES OUT OF HIS MOUTH OR YOU'LL BE SORRY!
Good teacher and you dont really have to read your text book if you take good notes.
He was so awesome. He was very knowledgable about mexican history. I enjoyed this class. He did power point lectures, so he was easy to listen to. His tests were not easy but not hard as long as you attended all the lectures.
Very funny. Its interesting and you will never fall asleep.DOn't need the text book. Just come to class every day and write notes down.Power point he gives is helpful and its exactly like the test.I learned alot.So active when heLectures haveNoTimetoZZZZZ

great teacher, really cares about his students. lectures are interestings, sometimes long. not alot of outside class work, just attend the lectures and study a little and the tests will be easy. he even gives the essay question out before the test!! i really learned alot. take his class!
Professor Robert Torres is the best instructor here at BC. His tests are based on all the notes. You don't even need a book for his class. If you memorize the material you could get an 'A'. I didn't really do that great in his tests, and I still got a 'B'
Mr. Torres is a great teacher. He is very helpful and very enthusiatic. He explanes everything which makes you understand and do well on his tests.
Torres is such a nice teacher. He gets so excited about teaching that the students actually have fun learning. It is obvious that he loves teaching this subject. His test are easy and right from the notes. I totally recomend him.He has a nice personality too (such a character!)
awesome professor, very interestng material. powerpoint lectures can be long, but he makes it interesting with his humor. tests can be challenging if you do not attend class. the book isn't necessary but can be helpful. hardly any homework too. take this class!!
Best class at BC! I totally recommend this class for everyone to take.

Greatest teacher i've had
he is a very passionate teacher! he says it like it is, don't get offended!
very good teacher, just buy a taperecorder or good memory, talks veryfast and is very help full and understanding
wonderful prof. you'll love the majority of his lectures. just study his notes and you'll do fine on the tests. the exams can be tricky sometimes, just read carefully and show him what you know. he wants you to learn and do well in school-that's very rare.
Very helpful teacher. He knows his staff. Just go to class, pay atention, take notes and you'll be fine. Also, be on time, and you'll get extra credit.
very good teacher likes what he teaches. take notes and show up to class and you will do fine. he gives you extra credit for being there in class
If you attend class every day this will be the easiest class you take. Professor Torres makes all his lecture fun and he teaches from the heart not a text book, great professor.
Mr. Torres is an easy going man with a sense of humor. His takes are esay if you study and take notes. The term paper is also easy if you read the book, and then analyze the story. He is a very helpful person. Highly accomended....
This is one of the best teachers at Bakersfield College...he is very true and passionate about his work...you never know what he's going to say...he's just a genuine and kind person...and he'll make sure not to offend anyone.
Mr. Torres is an awesome teacher. His tests are all lecture or movie notes. You rarely read the textbook. Don't miss a class or you will miss a good 3 pages of notes. He really opens your eyes into Chicano history.
he is a very good and helpful teacher. ive had him twice and will take him again. lectures are very important and make sure to be there every day of class
he is one of those professors that you can tell loves its job. very good teacher the class is not super easy but he makes it seem like it is. attendance is recommended, you can get an A by just taking notes and showing up on time. I recommend him to everyone.
Awesome prof. The absolute bes in the history department at BC.
Very good teacher, he knows his stuff and is very informative. One paper over a book we read, but very simple. Don't need the text book as long as you take good notes (does talk fast). Tests are multiple choice.
He is the best teacher I ever had at BC, he knows what he is talking about and he loves it, if you don't like history he would make love it for sure. HE IS THE BEST!!! easy class take lots of notes, he is fun very easy class if you pay attention
Passionate. Admirable. Cool guy great sense of humor. Wonderful professor. A gifted professor.
He's a great professor/teacher/person. Attendance is mandatory, and you definitely do not want to come in late - it's his biggest pet peeve. He's really passionate about his subject and the greatest thing about him is he relates to his students. * He does grade is paper on the harder side.
This class was so interesting and very informative. If you miss a class, you will suffer the consequences on the exams. Go to class! He can sometimes be rude but the class is fun overall.
I REALLY ENJOYED HIS CLASS. HE REALLY KNOWS WHAT HES TALKING ABOUT HE JUST MAKES THE CLASS REALLY INTERSTING AND FUN. HE ALWAYS ON TIME AND HES PRETTY LAY BACK PROFESSOR. SO I REALLY RECOMMEND THIS CLASS...MR. TORRES ROCKS YO!!!!
great teacher, knows exactly what hes talking about. uses powerpoint lectures. he is very laid back. the exams are 15 multiple choice, w/ 2 extra credit, & 1 essay question. totally easy. just study your notes. & make sure to take good notes, both on the powerpoint & what comes out of his mouth. theres one essay due on a novel, EASY. highly recomme
Great professor!
Excellent class! He is very passionate about history, he keeps the lecture very interesting. Take good notes, don't just write down the bullet points. Guaranteed A if you're not a slacker.
Very cool and interesting guy. He is very knowledgeable and really cares about the subject matter. His class revolve around power point notes. His exams involve an easy portion, which he gives you the topic ahead of time, and MC questions: both based HEAVILY on his power point lectures. If you don't attend class you want pass.
Mr. Torres is an amazing teacher that shares amazing stories with the class that helped me remember key ideas. Attendance is not an issue because he makes the class extremely enjoyable. The tests are short but are often 3 points a questions. Take good notes on EVERYTHING and review them before the night of the test and you will do great.
funny teacher makes you laugh alot.
Mr. Torres is a nice teacher. He knows what he is talking about. Latin American History was a blur to me, till I took this class. I recommend this class if you're interested in learning about Central America. You don't need the book. EVERYTHING from his lectures are on the tests, so I suggest you show up and take great notes. 1 paper on a book :)
Great guy. Travels alot. In his words a proud mexican. The class in his words is an opinion and perspective class. He said he wouldnt use a curve anymore, but maybe he would change his mind. Doesnt use text. 1 paper on novel. just know about the aztecs and its a breeze. Funny and elightneing. tests are easy just take notes on the slides.
Great teacher. Uses powerpoint lessons. The text isn't used. only the novel which can be found online free. Test are not easy but not as hard either. Attend everyday and you should be fine :D
Took the online coarse. The first test is the most important and worth more than even the final. Open book tests, the time prevents too much research. Know your stuff before the test. Do good on the essays, he expects a good paper. Grades on a curve, no extra credit, lot of emphasis on tests. Very good, motivational teacher.
If you're taking his online California history class and expect an easy A, think again. The textbook assigned (Pacific Eldorado) is more like a novel with very small print and no bolded terms. You MUST read it to find the terms needed for the test, and learn them. The tests are timed and give you not even 30 seconds per question so study before!
Took this class online and earned an A, but this is not an easy class. There are 3 papers and 5 tests, including the final. The tests are open-book, but are timed, 15 minutes to answer 25 questions, so no time to look through your book for answers. I read each chapter 3 times before taking the tests. No homework, so you must do well on the tests.
Love him! Does require some studying, but the class was so pleasant and he interacted with me regularly, so there was never any confusion. He even reached out to me to discuss why my test score dropped when he gave us more time to take them (didn't study.) I'm now in two more of his online classes. Cool dude.
He is a great instructor. Would totally take another class of his
The professor was pretty clear on his subject. Whatever you had a question on, you'd ask and he'd explain but usually he'd explain everything. The only thing that you would watch out is missing class. He never canceled a class and if you miss a class, you miss all the information.
I found this class clear-cut. You read your chapters and he provides a study sheet, which I used to focus on for the Exams. There are exams after every 3 chapters. Now they are usually 25 question at 4 points each. So it's important to know your material. He is a very sincere man and timely responses to any questions you may have.
Very organized online teacher. Provides clear study guides to follow. You read 2 to 4 chapters and then there is a small multiple choice test. There are three written essays due at the end of the class but you only need to use your class book to write them. I enjoyed the class book and found it interesting. He even lets you take make up exams!
This class was hard and easy at the same time. He gives you study guides and thats mostly all the work. About 20 terms per chapter and three to four chapters per test. DEFINE the study guide and use it for the timed quiz and you should pass. Four exams thats it but they are tough.
Great easy class, No book, but power point lectures were very helpful. Test easy, just take notes & be on time, ready to listen and jot down notes.
Professor Torres is an amazing professor. He sure knows his history! Class lectures are interesting. Lectures are power point slides, there is no book for it. But the slides are accessible on Canvas. Taking good notes(I practically wrote everything that came out of his mouth) is key to passing. Tests are pretty easy when you study. Easy A..
Took his online class, easiest A i've ever gotten. 6 quizes, 10 questions each but you only have 8 minutes to answer, plus he drops lowest score of the 6. Gives you weekly readings which you have to take notes on, but he highlights what he wants you to write. Xtra credit at the end of semester. Always welcomes feedback, sends weekly email reminders
Reading is a must. You cannot make up any tests given. The 3 essays at the end of the course are for extra credit only to improve your grade. I'd recommend to take but if you're looking for an easy online grade, it won't be here. Be ready to study and read!!
I took him online and it is strange becuase this was easy and hard. You MUST read. There are 6 quizzes, 10 questions each and 8 minutes to answer. He gives a study guide with vocab from the reading, so get ready to read. He drops one quiz with the lowest score and offers 3 essays for extra cerdit. He is a tough grader on essays.
As long as you do the study guide he provides which requires you to read the book you will pass! Make sure you make notes on everything for the study guide vocab because quizes are timed! Overall, I would take Torres again. Not an easy A, but very passable!
LOVED THIS CLASS! The material he gives are so interesting and kept me focused!
Professor Torres is one of my favorite professor although I took his class online. He provides the material needed for lectures. He gives quizzes every 2 weeks, so it gives you time to ready the material. He offered extra credit towards the end of the semester. His lectures are interesting; he throws in a bit of humor. Not your usual history class.
This is one of the easiest classes I've ever taken. This professor is awesome and allows room for error. Wish all my professors were like this one.
There are six quizzes required, but your top five quizzes are kept and counted for your final grade. He also gives you the opportunity to better your grade at the end of the semester by having three optional extra credit essays. I wouldn't say that the work and quizzes are easy; if you don't read his lectures it will show in your grade.
I loved taking his online class. He is respectful and his material is easy to understand and interesting to read. I appreciate his emails reminding us of our upcoming quizzes. It can be easy to lose track of time and assignments and he takes it upon himself to be there to motivate us. His class is easy to pass if you apply yourself. Great Proff.
This is the most boring class I've ever taken. There is no effort from the teacher, no discussion, no lecture. It's simply read and test. I'd rather sit at the DMV for a semester, at least I can people watch for entertainment, which is more than this class has to offer. If you're lazy and don't mind the regurgitate for test, then this is for you.
Took his B18 online class in the Spring. From what I remember you have 10-question tests every 2 weeks that are 8 minutes each. There was also no final. As long as you follow the readings and don't cram before tests like me, you should do great. His class is only as easy as you make it.
Lots of reading and NOTES. 50 terms to study and its not Just the main idea of each term... its the DETAILS he quizzes on. A person couldve done a million important things and he can ask what his partners job was.
Professor Torres was a last minute replacement as the other professor had a family emergency. Overall course was very informative and super easy. It averages out to a lecture a week but tests are biweekly, if I recall correctly extra credit is once a month in essay response format. Real easy to pass, easy to get a hold of, 10/10 would take again.
If you take his class online be prepared to teach yourself. He gives no power points, video lectures or information besides a list of terms. He assigns you 2 chapters to read and you have an 8 min quiz on the chapters. These 7 quizzes, worth 20pt each, make up your whole grade besides about 4 extra credit essays, potential worth 5 points each.
Although the semester ends in a week and I have an F, Professor Torres is great. He provides everything you need in order to be able to pass his class. Its just a matter of you putting in the time to read the lecture in order to pass the quizzes. Definitely will be retaking this course with him. He also is very caring and responds quick to emails.
Professor Torres isnt for everyone but I wouldnt say his class is hard. You have to de disciplined and cant wait last minute to do your readings. You read a lecture a week and take a quiz every 2 weeks. Defiantly recommend taking notes off the lectures he provides but if you truly make time to read youll pass the class.
Do not recommend his online class. He gives you 2-3 sections of notes to read, which are all about 20 pages long each. Then you only get 8 minutes to take the quiz, which is worth 30 points. Also, he locks the quiz at 10 a.m. on the day it is due. If you take this class make sure you stay on top of your work.
Professor Torres is probably better in person than online. He gives 2/3 lectures a week and they're all really long. You HAVE to take notes in order to have any understanding. I even took notes and they didn't relate to the quiz questions at all, very frustrating, I don't recommend it.
I think it's ridiculous to give students dozens of pages of material to read, and then only give us 8 minutes to complete our quiz. How is this a realistic expectation? It doesn't even give me time to think. Do not recommend.
grades are determined by 6 quizzes which are ten questions each. quizzes are based on 10-15 page lectures that he writes himself. he also drops the lowest quiz at the end of the semester. he also gives three extra credit essays.
