This class is a JOKE. I mean that in every meaning of the word.
The exams aren't hard, but you won't learn a thing sitting in class, which makes them more difficult than they should be.
I went into this class knowing more than when I came out of it. Sitting in class will actually make you dumber. The class was harder than it really should have been just because it was so uninteresting. I literally learned zilch.

If he ever gets on topic, he doesn't take it anywhere. I still don't know anything about economics, and if I ever want to, I won't ask him.
I totally agree with everything everyone else has said. "Coast with Trost" if you want to but be prepared to pay the price in later econ courses when you realize you learned NOTHING. Course is ridiculous. I don't know how he is still a professor
awful, didnt learn anything in class, ta barely spoke english and had to get a tutor, bc econ dept offered no help. i definitly did not coast with trost, everything on the final was not stuff that had been expected
If you want to take an easy Econ course, take this professor. However, be warned that you won't learn nothing in this class and lectures & discussions are so boring.
If you are an econ major or will be taking 100 level econ classes, don't take Trost because you won't learn anything. If you want an easy class then take him...no work...don't have to attend discussion...just get his old tests from the SA and you are set
RIDICULOUSLY easy class. "Coast with Trost" holds true. You only need to go to the discussions, don't worry about the lecture hall classes. Easy A, but careful, you learn NOTHING.
He comes late, tells a joke for 15 minutes then puts up an irrelavant quote that he likes, then puts up his agenda and realizes he only has 15-20 minutes left and begins to "teach." WASTE OF TIME.I did not learn a thing and now worried about tak
Make sure you go to section because that's when you will learn every thing. There is not a great deal of work but it is hard to get an A in the class (it's not hard to pass, but it's hard to do very well).

I agree with everyone here.
ta was good, class was worthless
You do 'COAST WITH TROST'. Study for your exams and its a cakewalk. But if your an econ major, stay the hell away.
There is only a final and a midterm. But the lecture is abosolutely useless.
Comes to class late, tells meaningless stories, and barely teaches you anything about econ. Bad class if you want to learn anything and/or want to move on to more difficult courses like Econ 181.
Was easy, yet gained knowledge through studyin for exams

Easy A, just read and review previous exams with student who have taken the class before.
The most useless professor at GW. Teaches nothing and then gives an impossible final. Worst class --- don't take!
Coast w/Trost. The lecture is a waste. Thank God for TAs.
If you actually go to the lectures and listen to him, he's a great teacher. He repeats things a lot to make them clear so if you miss it hte first time you're bound to catch it the second time. P.S. I love his valor jumpsuit.
i <3 him
He's an OK prof if you want an easy class...no homework, dont need to show up. BUT do attend the discussions!
Coast with Trost!! No Homework! Fair final and midterm. Boring lectures but you buy the notes from the bookstore and that is all he goes over so you can teach yourself.
Very easy class if you show up to lecture and read the notes...Fair midterm and final...His jokes are corny and pointless and he is often distracted from the class. He even call's himself stupid...an easy A if you work for it on your own.
coast with trost. eeeeeeeeaaaaaaassssssssssyyyyyy
This was the worst class I ever took, but an easy A. I actually learned nothing and am more confused now that I was before about economics.
Class is a joke. I learned everything in the class from the TA. The hardest part about this class is trying to figure out what the questions are asking you on the tests.
easy class. But you have to study for final. MIDTERM Pretty easy, final pretty hard. That's all i can say. Overall a good professor with enthusiasm. First year ECON students should take him.
This guy is the man. You have to go to his lectures just b/c he's Bob T. If you don't, you are fine if you just read his lecture notes. Easy midterm, look at past tests. Guys tells tons of stories, some which are funny but he's a good guy.
You can learn everything you need from the book and notes. Definitely go to the discussion sections. It is an easy class if you can stand his terrible lectures. I would recommend him if you are taking econ as a requirement and don't want a class that is too hard.
Easiest class I have ever taken. I basically taught myself the material and got an A. I have only gone to discussion twice and to lecture once. SO EASY
Go to 3 classes: 1st, midterm and final. He never explains anything so look to your TA to help you. He recycles tests year after year, so study the old ones. You won't learn anything but you will get an a. And his suits are polyester and make him look like he's in the Beastie Boys 'Sabotage' video
I learned everything from my discussion section; not necessary to go to class.
Waste of time. Professor constantly reiterates stuff from the first lecture without really covering any new material, ever. Go to discussion if you want to learn anything. If your'e good at taking tests, this class is for you. The entire grade is based on em.
you won't learn ANYTHING...lectures are a waste of time. just go to discussion
He is an easy grader
Unclear, but a great guy, very understanding. You have to go to the discussions to understand the class. I would recomend this class over any other mirco class
He makes no sense. You ave to learn the material on your own.
GO TO DISCUSSION.
I went to 4 lectures the entire year - 2 before the midterm - and I got a 95 on it...finals are coming up soon though! You don't need to go to lecture but just like everyone says here make sure you go to discussion
Best class ever! You don't have to go to class or discussion, material is very straight forward. Trost is such a nice guy.
Everyone thinks TROST is just an easy Prof, not a knowledgeable Professor. Well..it's wrong! He makes everything understandable and tries hard to let students comprehend it well. Lets you use notecards for exams, and has jokes everyday in the beginning of class! Such a nice Guy!
Professor is Trost is a very intelligent man, and is very passionate for teaching Economics. The only problem is that he doesn't make it easy for students to understand. It can be seen that he tries, but still. Discussions are helpful. Take practice exams and read the book, and you will do fine.
Don't have to go to class, but the exams are confusing as hell.
Basically you have to study hard to get a solid A in his econ 11 class. It is fairly possible to get a decent grade in his class(B~B+), but your score can vary by ONE problem and how your classmates perform. I got a 45 out of 50 and I barely have an A now since everyone seemed to do well this year..
If you want to do well in this class you need to teach yourself the material because Trost does a terrible job. Lectures are a waste of time, and the TAs aren't any better at teaching the information. If you're good at learning things yourself, take Econ 11 with Trost. If not, avoid him.
I didn't take any econ in highschool and had no idea what he was talking about and I couldn't jsut teach myself from scratch. Well you won't fail this class even if youre an idiot, but I still hated it, and as a business major I fell like I screwed myself over by not learning anything!!!
"coast-with-Trost"...more like "Teach-yourself-trost". I learned nothing in this class except bunch of bad jokes and a few dirty ones. You will not learn anything..AT ALL! Discussion sections are no use either.
Not good. When only 40 kids show up every lecture when there are 140 kids in the class you know something is wrong. You need to teach yourself everything. The material up to the midterm is easy, but then after that it just gets confusing! NOT RECOMMEND!

Class was great. You learn when you go, and you can learn from his class notes when you don't. Tests come directly from class notes, so don't bother buying the book (TA told us this). I attended 1 discussion and about 6 classes and got an A. Take This class, you'll enjoy it or just stay at home.
I don't know what this guy below me is sniffin, but don't listen to him.Trost is terrible,he is monotonous to the point where your mind is forced to daydream.you just can't focus he is so disconnected and unclearthe only problems are on the test,he never prepares you for anything all he says is MR=MC
Do yourself a favor and take yezer. Its a little more work, but you wont mind when you see trost's tests and everything on there is nothing he ever did in class. You will learn something from yezer. You don't learn anything from trost.People might say "coast with trost" but its really toast with trost"
If you care about econ - don't take him. You won't learn anything. If you are taking this as a requirement, it's easy. Surprisingly, he's helpful during office hours (he once spent 2 hours w/me and some friends reviewing before the final exam instead of feeding his dogs).
He's a really sweet guy, but nobody bothers to go to class at all, ever, since all it is is disconnected stories. We got one about tulips, and a tulip farmer. Wha??? The midterm kind of kicked my butt, but that's partly my own fault. But hey, you NEVER have to go to class!
TAKE THIS CLASS EVEN IF U DON"T HAVE TOO. IT IS AN EASY A+ IF YOU STUDY FOR THE TESTS.
He and his TA's are absolutely useless, how you do in this class matters how well you can teach yourself. I did an okay job at teaching myself, therefore I did okay (not great) in the class.
this guy is absolutely horrible. how you do in the class depends completely on the curve, which can screw you over. i studied ridiculous amounts for this class and got a C-... yeah, "coast with trost" - whatever.
Going to class is pointless unless you want to hear about tulips and potatos. Just get the book and read it. If you do go to class- take a crossword.
Intro Micro, Fall 2003: Tests are irrelevant to his lectures. Its not "Coast with Trost" but "TOAST with Trost". Did the work but got a damn c-. Take Samaniego instead.
I took this class over the summer and i dont think it was ridiculous. There aren't very many topics involved at all, you can buy the lecture notes that teaches it all, and he goes through the lecture notes in class. On top of that there are old tests to study from. He brought in a lot of his personal experiences in business which made it memorable.
I even go to class sometimes, but its a waste of time unless you have something else to do while there. just read the book and the notes, his exams are multiple choice open notes, and ignore everything he says.
Professor Trost tries really hard to make the material easier for students to understand. He really considers the suggestions that kids give to him. Your grade is based on your midterm and final, but you can bring notes to them. I find the class to be really easy if you read the material, but the lectures can be a little boring.
Alright kids, no need to go to lecture, discussion, or do the problem sets. Just study your ass off for three days before the exams, make your notecard and you'll get an A. He's an extremely unfair grader, but in an easy way - if you deserve an A, 50 other kids who don't will get one too. That ticked me off.
absolutely awful. i learned close to nothing. i came in knowing very little about economics, and came out confused. he tries to tell stories to help us understand, but each one turns out to be rather pointless. lecture was a waste of 50 minutes. go to discussion and try to figure out the info on your own because trost's teaching will not help
TOAST TO TROST. the class is a joke. you dont have to go to the lecture or discussion. there is only a midterm and a final. the midterm is 20 multiple choice questions and the final is 30. you're allowed to bring notes to the tests. just study for a couple of days before the test and you should be fine. he wants to give out a lot of As.
It really was coast with trost, no lies about that!
Not tough -- straightforward. If you have trouble, just ask for help! The material is basic so resources are plentiful. Trost, TA's, websites, former students -- you can find the answer to any question you have.
Boring professor..standard class material. Could simply get an A without going to lecture!
If you have a background in economics, this is a great class, you dont have to go to the lectures, easy A.
You don't have to go to class, he doesn't take attendence, and neither do the TAs, two tests, will only count the final if you do better on it, don't plan on actually learning very much though, kind of luck of the draw as to whether you do well or not.
Do not take this class if you are interested in learning economics and have never taken an econ course before. TA's were not very helpful. The entire class = 50 points: 20 for the midterm and 30 for the final. Avoid this class!
This guy is rediculously easy. Ignore anyone that says otherwise.
It is rediculous that Yezer and Dunn are getting better ratings from this guy. You don't have to go to class, you get to bring a sheet with whatever notes you want to the exams and he posts all of the lecture notes. For me, I found it easier to learn with his low-stress teaching style. class....
SO GOOD, TAKE THIS COURSE. ALL OF YOU THAT WANT HARD TEACHERS GO BACK TO NERD SCHOOL
Its not easy. The class has no discipline. Only 5 or 6 people show up in a class of 85. The class is simply a waste. One of the worst classes I've taken at GW, VOID VOID VOID
Horrible CLASS! Stay away! It's impossible. I went to class, tought my self everything and still did poorly. Nice guy but horrible class.
Trost is fantastic! 100% of the grade is based on the midterm and final but he drops the midterm if you do better on the final! Make a great cheat sheet for the exams and youll get an A. He gives old exams, practice with those to ensure an A. Class can be interesting but it is not crucial to show up.
OMG! This guy will go out of his way to help you in any of ur problems. He is an awesome professor... take him... but on the downside he could be alittle easy
They call it "coast with Trost" for a reason. I went to 3 lectures and got a high A. He's a very nice guy, and if you need help, he will do all he can for you. He posts lectures as well as past exams on Blackboard. He occasionally ties class into current events. An ideal professor for something like intro. micro. However, I took this only for social science credits. If you plan to study econ, this is not the best class for you.
I didn't learn much in my econometrics class. He made sure we knew the basics, however, by repeating them over and over and over. I reccomend taking Proffessor Dunn instead.
First i commend him for how good he looks for his age. Its realy incredible. Econ 11 with him is not a good class you will learn little and hes not very clear. I think the class is too basic for him because hes a real smart guy. Easy class for an econ course and you can get a good grade. dont take for depth just for easiness
Take him... but be aware during tests...
Not a bad teacher. Recommended more for if you've taken Microeconomics before and are looking for more of a refresher than if micro is a new subject for you. He's a good guy, and the TA's are pretty helpful as well.
Not very demanding. You can go to class once a week and as long as you keep up with the reading/blackboard notes, you can still be well ahead of him. If you do take him, make sure not to get lulled into a false sense of security for the midterm. Otherwise, there is little excuse not to get at least a B.
Coast with Trost is soo true! I had never taken Econ before and I got a 100 on the midterm. The class is so easy and I rarely went. I studied a lot for the midterm and kept up with the reading but he is not a good lecturer and it's often a boring lecture class. TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! I have friends in other Econ 11 and their professors are impossible
It's a coast with Trost...IF YOU READ. Lectures are boring and are hard to follow. However, go to your discussion--the one I had covered more in one class the Trost did in a week. His tests are not as easy as you would think. However, he always posts old exam well before the mid-term and final. Also, you get notes on the tests. Besure to read!!!
you don't have to go to class, but you have to learn the material at some point, so it does help if you show up every once in a while. he also gives a VERY generous curve at the end...if you have to take econ and want the easiest A possible, take it with him.
I thought that I would be coasting...but now, his final exam this semester was nothing like previous years, and he's really hard to follow in lecture. I did the reading, I went to every class, and I definitely lost my A after the final.
Coast with Trost. Just do the reading and practice tests and you'll do fine. Half the questions on the mid-term and final come from the practice tests he puts up on Blackboard. The lectures gave me a great opportunity to work on my Su-Do-Ku skills.
No need to go to class ever except for exams, he always has technical difficulties anyways causing a 50 minute lecture to really only be 30 minutes. Go to discussions though, its the easiest place to learn the material. Also buying the book is really unnecessary unless you really need it.
Never read a thing, my problem set book is still in the plastic. literally went to 1 lecture (1st day), 1 discussion, and got a B-. discussion grade comes from group quizzes, so you can never go and still get an A , as long as someone in your group takes the quiz. You can bring a 2 pages (front AND back) of notes with anything on it to the final
Took in the spring, stopped going to class in February and got a B. I had a 100% going into the final which turned out to be unexpectedly hard. Try and maintain some idea of what's going on in class - the rest you can put on the study guides he allows on exams.
This class is as easy as people have said historically. I went to almost three classes and still got a B+ that is coming from someone who hates everything about economics. While it may not have taught me the skills I need to know, he truly presents a good class for someone who just wants to get the requirement done without breaking the GPA.
Went to class twice, went to discussion maybe four times, skipped all of the group quizzes (as long as one person was there to take it, you got a decent grade), never bought the book. Do a little more than that. I didn't get such a good grade.
Genuinely nice guy, but don't take this class expecting to learn a lot. Midterm was easy, but final was surprisingly challenging. It was hard for me to understand the material because I was never asked to present homework, do projects, etc.
It really is a coast with trost. I attended two classes and got a 95 on the midterm. I went to 2 discussions, which are not mandatory because he doesn't do group quizzes anymore. He now does a homework assignment every week called aplia which is not hard and you can work on it with a whole group of people. I forget sometimes that I'm taking econ.
Prof. Trost means well, and yes, it is easy, but I LOVED econ before i took his class, and he's totally killed it for me. If you want to learn something valuable, do not take this class. If you just want to get rid of a req, this is a good one.
I basically never went to lectures. The lectures are all online in slides and my discussion helped 10x more. Lectures are boring but he's the best teacher to take econ with if you're looking for an A. He lets you use "cheat sheets" and makes it easy to get an A.
Easy A Interesting Class
Pretty easy class. If you fail the midterm it is still possible to get an A in the class if you get an A on the final. You can take notes in with you for the midterm and final. Easiest econ 11 class.
He is not as easy as he is made out to be. His classes are pointless. He just reads from the powerpoint. The hw is tough, and while he is somewhat lenient with grades, it isn't an easy A.
Joke. Went to the lecture three times including the midterm, never went to discussion. studied for maybe an hour for the midterm and two for the final, and got an A.
It's not "coast with Trost" like everyone says - you really do have to study and try on the homework! However, I got a D on the midterm and still got an A- in the class because he doesn't count the midterm if you do better on the final. I'd recommend him over another, but don't depend on an easy A without putting in some work.
I attend two classes: to take the midterm and the final. NEVER went to recitation. Always completed the Aplia assignments. Failed the midterm and 100% on the final. Final grade: A. I'm sorry, but if you can't "coast with Trost," look into American.
They say "Coast with Trost" but if you are not actually interested in this topic and don't make the effort to learn on your own or to get help outside of the class, it will not be easy. His lectures are a waste of time because he's always talking off topic, and he puts it all up on blackboard anyway.
if you are interested in an easy GCR youre lookin at it. The saying "Coast with Trost" couldnt be more true. The lectures arent mandatory but the discussion group is helpful. There are 'Aplia' online homework assignments which arent too crazy and there is a midterm and final. he allows 1 page of notes for the midtermn and 2 pgs for the final!
Easiest Econ teacher by far. dont need to put in a lot of work, easy midterm, I got 100% with 3 hours of studying. dont need to go to class, but definitely go to discussion. aplia homework sucks but doenst really affect your overall grade. you can use notes on both midterm and final. definitely take econ with trost if you want an easy A.
It's true: Coast with Trost. If you want an easy A for a class you never have to attend, take this class. I have not gone since September. I read the textbook and go to discussion and know enough for the midterm and final, his only tests, which you are allowed to bring a cheat sheet to.
Trost seems nice, but I can't say I know him that well since I never go to class. I got a one hundred one the midterm and will probably get something similar on the final. It's almost true what they've said: if you can't coast with Troast, don't look into American, look into Catholic.
Ridiculously easy. Don't take him if you want to learn anything about ECON. If not, take this guy b/c essentially you only have to show to class for the two very easy tests.
Yes yes yes, you'll coast with Trost, but you do have to learn the material, which isn't easy stuff. Don't think that just because you have an easy teacher the material becomes easier. Hank Paulson must have had Trost.
Great class. You only have to attend 2-3 times, you get an A on hw if you do 80% of it, and there are only two tests. He also curves it and DROPS your lowest exam. Coast with Trost and you're guaranteed an A.
Don't even go to class. His lectures are unclear and pointless. You'll only coast with Trost if you teach yourself the material. READ THE BOOK AND DO THE PROBLEM SETS.
HAHAHA what a joke. I never went to avclass after the first lecture. You dont have too. Its so easy.
Trost is really easy and nice. I never read the textbook once, and only went to class about 5 times, and I managed a B+. Just do the homework and use his problem sets for the midterm and final.
This class is a joke. Inappropriately easy. Go to class if you want to. I learned everything from discussion, didn't read the textbook. Got a perfect score on the 18 multiple choice question midterm, something similar on the 27 MC final.
If you want an A, take Trost. If you want to learn about economics, don't. It's that simple.
Easiest class at GW. Take Trost. Its like having one less class.
What a waste of time, the guy quotes from a famous person every time you ask him a question, e.g. Isiah Thomas shoots 1000 free throws everyday... Very easy though.
Awful, Awful, Awful...rambles all class, please choose someone else
Trost is a horrible excuse for a teacher. This is the only class I don't go to, and while the material is "easy" compared to other classes, it doesn't seem that easy to me because he makes it seem so difficult. It's my least favorite class and I really wish I took someone else.
good teacher..jus go to class for clarity..people that don't like him rarely go to class..
dont take this class if you are majoring in econ... do take it if its a requirement.. you will not learn anything and i really recommend you go to the discussion sections and not the lecture.. he just rambles on and on..
Trost is awful and you only coast if you teach yourself. I coasted but I know many others who did not. The exams are easy if you ready the chapters the day before the exam. We only did 8 of them. Don't go to lecture or discussion it's a waste of time and he will just confuse you even more.
HORRIBLE! Absolutely useless. Sure I got an A, but I learned literally nothing. Don't waste your money. He's one of the biggest jokes on campus.
Easiest teacher at GW. This class was much easier than my high school economics class. Kids do fail, so I recommend attending discussion and reading the textbook. If you read the text book and understand the material the two exams (the only tests) are very easy. You also get a 4 page cheat sheet on the final exam.
please avoid him at all costs. I'm an A student, dedicated and works extremely hard at all times. Aplia is not easy at all, he can't teach a word. Almost impossible to get an A, b/c he has now re-structured his class. Not easy at all. Please avoid!!!!!!!!!
Prof. Trost is unclear and uninterested. As said before, good for completing a requirement, not for majors. It IS necessary to read the book and look over Aplia, but lectures are a huge waste of time. TA Meraj is your best hope for actually learning material, as he can teach two weeks of drawn out lecture material in a clear 50 minute discussion
The lectures are useless, Aplia is tougher than others have let on and the majority of TAs can't teach. Trost is a nice guy if you talk to him but THIS CLASS IS NOT EASY. Go to lecture, read the book and study hard - don't just rely on the cheat sheet. Most importantly, don't count on an easy A, especially if Econ doesn't come easy to you.
His voice is distracting and yells out random words. He also has a tendency to go on tangents. I feel like I am teaching myself more by reading the text than from going to lecture.
Lectures are not mandatory, but I would recommend attending as he gives hints for what would be on the midterm/final every so often. Also go to discussion. The TA's can condense the chapter into 30 minutes of 'heres what you need to know to pass'. Aplia is easy, just follow along in the book.
Lectures are totally useless. I learned everything from textbook by myself. Only went to lectures for three time and got an A.
Economics with Trost is mega easy class. His lectures are basically reflections of the textbook chapters, and his exams are basically reflections of lectures and readings. This is possibly the easiest class at GW as long as you read the textbook. Class was pretty useless, and he's not the most thrilling professor.
His class is not as easy as people think, but still got and A. Trost does not really teach the subject that well though. You just have to study hard by closely reading the book and learning from Aplia. Attendance isn't required and the lecture room is often very empty.
Easiest A since I've been here but lectures are quite honestly useless. I went to class the first three weeks and realize its not at all necessary. I learned everything I need to know from my TA, but only because I got lucky with a very good one. Take for an easy A but don't expect anything remotely useful to ever come out of his lectures.
Trost is the man! His lectures are very concise but are based directly off the power points he posts online. There are bi-weekly online assignments that are very easy if you do any of the following: read the book, go to class, or read the powerpoints. The midterm and final are both multiple choice with 18 and 27 questions respectively AND you get to type a legal cheat sheet! You learn a great deal and arent the slightest bit miserable doing it. TA's are phenomenal but discussion is optional.
