Cool teacher. Quite the comedian. Likes to discuss the class work and assignments alot (not in a bad way) But he stays with poetry a little too long for my taste.

Explains assignments in detail. Gives plenty of handouts and examples of what he expects from students. Students know what they're graded on. Easy going manner in class.

One of the worst teachers i've ever had, everyone in class couldn't stand him, don't be absent at all...

he is actually pretty cool most classes would go off topic but who would want to stay on topic for 3 hours. he is easy and fun to get along with, if you are late bring him a snack!!!

i love this teacher! he is awesom and very funny! he has like a stoner hippie way so WAY laid back! if u go to class and get full instruction u will do well, he has high expectations but if u follow guidelines u will do fine! this is my 3rd class with him and have gotten no lower than a B!! GREAT teacher!!

I learned a lot in his class. He gives very helpful examples and handouts. I will take him again in English 2. He gets off topic sometimes, but it wasn't an issue for me. I really recommend his class.

Mr. Vasquez's class was a breeze. He's a funny guy but definitely knows his stuff. Keep all the handouts, and write down whatever he writes on the board. Show up to class, & do the work, & you'll at least get a B.

This professor was great. He talks alot about himself but that's because you need to know who you're learning from. He spends a good deal on poetry and ignores dramas. If you can consistently write good poems you've just about mastered prose (i.e. fiction). Gets off-topic often, but its fairly funny. Listen, there's a reason you're not the teacher.

Teacher was very clear about what he expected and only graded on what he expected, so just do what he asks and he's easy. Very funny, very conversational, easy to distract. Enjoyed the class, even if I don't enjoy the subject!

Mr.Vasquez is a quality instructor! It is a very easy class if you follow directions, are always in class and is quite the comedian.He makes the class fun and enjoyable, while still learning. He breaks everything down on how he wants essays written. If it wasn't for him I don't think I would have ever learned how to write an essay!:)

Probably the best English professor at COS. If students have trouble with him, guarantee you they aren't good students or they're Republicans and dislike minorities.

Very good teacher. He is very particular with punctuation, but I think I have mastered the semi colon. If you are willing to stay after class or go to the writing center he will edit your papers. I think it's funny that most the negative comments on here contain quite a few typos, lol. Guess you know they didn't learn anything in class.

Funny teacher, he is a cool teacher, we sometimes went through half of the time and didn't do much of work. He is VERY clear on what he wants, always willing to help you out. He graded fair.

Best English teacher I've had at COS. He is understanding, comedic and helpful. He doesn't really ask for much. Only 3 essays for this class, including the final. Do the assignments & you'll pass.

Great teacher, very funny, interesting class, attendance is mandatory but he only lectures occasionally. Textbooks are a must and must use blackboard to print out handouts due to budget cuts. No test only a few quizzes and only 3 essays are required, one of which is the final. Would recommend him to anybody looking to take English.

Mr. V is very clear on what is expected, make sure you read his syllabus, interesting topics for books/essays. you wont have to read the whole book, just whats important, I would take him again

Agreed, if you are passionate about English, don't take this instructor. He is extremely laid back to the point that I felt like I didn't learn a thing. He takes forever to grade and return essays. Class sessions are spent doing peer evaluations and reading pointless essays that were 10 years old.

I enjoyed this class overall. He is very clear about what he wants in his essays, especially the final. If You actually do your drafts for the final on time and get them evaluated by peers, it helps. I would sometimes stay after class ask him questions regarding the final research paper and hed help me and elaborate on things. Great professor

Mr. Vasquez is a helpful professor. Whether it be in class or after, if you have questions, he actually answers them without making you feel stupid or discouraged to approach him. This class was not difficult. Just get your work done, and don't procrastinate. 25% of your grade is participation and attendance. Good vibes in his class.

Took this summer course, and I don't regret it. He's down to earth and very easy to approach. He laughs at his own jokes. We only had 3 essays and a few random little quizzes to see if we paid attention during the video clips he'd show us. I can't wait to take his creative writing course next year. Easy class. Just go and get your work done.

I almost didn't take his class due to some bad reviews on here and from previous students, but I had no problems with him. One thing he doesn't really appreciate is pop culture, so if you include any pop culture references in your poems don't be surprised if he doesn't spend much time critiquing it. Easy A for sure!

He is a funny cool guy. He talks pretty fast. Make sure you catch what he is saying. other than that. Be ready to write a lot in this class. There are movies he will show to you, and give quizzes about the movie. So make sure you go to class and participate and you will do well oh! and ask him questions if you have any.

If you do not like peer-editing papers, do not take this class; in this class, you will be peer-editing papers often. Another comment is he takes forever to grade paper and since this is an English 1 class I want to be able to see his comments much quicker. Overall the class did entertain me much I felt like we wasted a lot of time.

I took mr. Vasquez during the summer he's a good guey made a 3 hour class go by quick good sense of humor, however he is strict on his grading and assigns long essays.

Took him in summer school, the class is very fast pace but if you do the work assigned and are in class every day you will pass. You do at least 3 peer edits for each paper (3 papers total, 2 books) helps a lot to get a good grade on the paper. 15 paper research paper was assigned in parts over entire month. will be taking him for English 2.

i took English 2 with him this past spring and it was a amazing class!!!! as i read other peoples reviews on him i am disappointed with the poor reviews? i am pretty sure everyone that actually attended class and did 60percent of there work pass the class. its a easy A . whats not to like about that? take him you wont regret it.

I was in Mr. Vasquez's English 251 class and I first thought I was going to hate the class. He has a unusual sense of humor but he is a pretty good guy. He is not too strict when he assigns us our essays. We've tricked him a couple of times and extended our papers because he doesn't remember when things are due lol. Expect to take pop quizzes.

Mr. Vasquez is by far the best teacher i have taken at COS he's such a helpful guy and is very easy to get along with. I felt comfortable to ask any questions i needed. when i was reading the reviews i had my doubts about him but don't judge a book by its cover, he's a wonderful guy and his class is easy.

Overall I thought Mr. V was a great teacher. Class was never boring with his interesting stories and fun sense of humor. As long as you do the assignments and show up you shouldn't be disappointed with your grade.

Gives extra credit assignments, lots of reading. 15 page essay due and 3 3-7 pages essays. books are required.

Mr. Vasquez is an awesome professor! Gives clear instructions as to what he expects through his essays and even gives examples. 3 essays throughout the semester. Research paper 10-15 pages but all are worked on throughout the semester. A lot of peer editing is done for all 3 essays. Great class overall, time goes by fast with his hilarious stories.

There are quizzes that are on chapters in the textbook that you have to read, but don't count on that to affect your grade. He talks a lot which is good and bad because he wastes time, but it can get boring. At the end of the semester, there's a lot of essays so don't procrastinate. Other than that, it's an easy A.

He is a great teacher, give great feedback. Helps you understand how to write a solid paper and research paper at a University level. You need to definitely be in class everyday. Why enroll in a class if you plan on being absent? give pop quizzes on movies and videos get ready to write down the stats and states of locations. Will take him again!

Mr. Vasquez is a great teacher. He is hilarious and class is never boring. I took his class in the summer so it was fast paced, papers/drafts due every couple of days. peer edit each others essays so you have multiple times to fix errors. He has a lot of students and it shows. You will be peer-reviewing a lot of each other's essays. Also beware there will be a couple debates, which I wasn't expecting but it wasn't too bad. It's a fun class that gets sidetracked easily, but if you read and pay attention you will learn. Keep all your stuff because it's all due at the end of the year.

He is a great teacher and he loves what he dose. His love of teaching shines through and he gives amazing feedback. He tells jokes and inspires great in calss conversations.

As much as people complain about him, it's a super easy class. Read the textbook and books assigned, do your research with your papers. Also, he drops nearly all the pop quizzes so do not sweat it. We literally got graded on a handful of things at the most. An easy A if I ever saw one.

My first college professor and he was great!! I took his course over the summer so there usually was several things due throughout the week and sometimes weekend. He gives very detailed instructions so if you read it all thoroughly its easy to pass. He also is very respectful and gives great feedback if you reach out to him.

He's very thorough if you like plenty of handouts on a professor's Canvas page. He does demand that students work for their grades. His biography is impressive. He's taught at several universities. He's the best English professor I've had at COS, and he gives students plenty of research topics for the long research paper. And I just liked him.
