Funny and friendly teacher. Very Helpful one on one
Take someone else, anybody else, but him.

tests were pretty long, but he was funny and explained things well. He is formal and expects you to learn.
avoid this teacher, this dude makes sh*t so hard, his class is hard, i worked my ass off for C, plus dudes a prick cause he thinks hes better than everyone
Warren is awful.

he's a very intellectual teacher (quotes latin and shakespeare on tests and such). I studied 12 hours for each test (no exaggeration) and made a B+ in the class.
TAKE SOMEBODY ELSE!!!!!!!

He goes into great detail in his notes. He tries to be funny but he sucks at it. The homework is average difficulty but the tests will****you and your GPA. Nice guy but if you have the chance take someone else.
this class is so hard i hate chemistry now avoid this man like the plague
Warren is a hard teacher. Most of his lectures are tedious, but sometimes, it does get fairly interesting. He has hard WebAssigns, but if you finish those assignments and do well on them, you'll be fine on his tests. Even though the comments aren't too nice about him here he has a good personality outside of class. Be sure to go to tutorial and SI!
egads. he's kind of difficult in class and his tests are hard. but he's a nice person overall. just make sure you speak to him and are very polite.
Best chem teacher. His test are hard... redo webassigns and read notes. He is hard, but if you like chem it's worth it to have him.
Hours worth of study and work is needed to succeed in this class. I took the summer course for Quantitative and it kicked my butt. Expect to spend at least 6hrs a night working on the ridiculous amounts of Web Assign given. Do all practice exams for good measure, and maybe you'll come out on top.
I did not like his teaching style and did not find it effective.
He very helpful and friendly. He has a good sense of humor and a thorough and interesting class period. If students are lazy or rude he may not be as helpful but students should be respectful to their teachers anyway. It is hard, I had a C+ on my first test, but you learn your material. Be prepared to actually earn your grade. I like hi
Cracks HORRIBLE jokes almost daily, dry humor. Hard teacher and comes across intimidating but can be really helpful if need be.
Don't walk out in the middle of class. It pisses him off and he calls you out.
With the intense summer session he rushed through the material in a haphazard manner and assigned an unreasonable amount of webassign every night, reducing actual study time to a frustrating minimum. Can't say if this reflects his regular semester style.
DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE! I have taken this class with Dr. Warren twice now and have received F's both times. I studied for 1-4 hours every day and had a personal hired tutor which he recommended and still failed the second time. He doesn't care about the students and if you don't understand something he makes you feel like an idiot.
Aweful teacher. Each day for notes he just does huge example problems and doesn't explain anything very clearly. He says all we need to know are in the examples which is a load of bull. Dont ask him any questions either, he'll make you feel like an idiot.
He is one of the worst instructors I have come across. On the 2nd exam the scores were so bad he would not give the avg back to the class or any other informayion!! He should be teaching to grad students with the expectations that he has for what students should know prior to coming to his class. Absolutley horrible, do not take him whatever you do
Avoid at all cost if you are not a chemistry major!!! He changed grading scale on 1st Exam so 75% of the class would not fail it. Only 50% failed after that!!!
Warren is a difficult teacher. his test problems are very tricky, requires a lot of studying. dont take this guy! he uses handwritten projector slides for lecture, and sends you a million emails. AVOID HIM!
I noticed how Warren made some people who asked questions in class feel stupid, but I didn't think it was a true show of his character. Then I went to ask him a question about the grading of my test and I was shocked at how rude and uncaring he was. He truly doesn't care about the students and his teaching/notes aren't helpful. Avoid his class.
Dr. Warren has a bad reputation at State, which is unfair. I thought he was helpful and he did try to be understanding to those who just did not get it. Some people take his helpfulness as being rude, but that's just his nature. The class is hard and so are webassigns. I spent all of my free time in the tutorial. It was worth it!
Expect to spend alot of time on this class. The material is not impossible to learn, but it will take you a lot of time outside of class (with a tutor, in my case) to grasp the material at the level he expects. Homework is hard, and take at least 2 hours to complete. He will help you if you ask, but sometimes his guidance causes more confusion.
First and foremost, the WebAssigns are horrible by nature. They take forever, are very hard and tricky, and I DON'T NEED TO HAVE MY HAND HELD TO STUDY. He isn't a bad teacher. Concepts are tough to grasp, but I believe that is the nature of the course. I would not take again due to the WebAssigns. The tests are very hard and often are a new wa
Difficult teacher, but it is a difficult course. Tests are difficult but fair in the sense that everything on them has been covered in the lectures. Very challenging and worthwhile for students who are majoring in any sort of chemistry field.
unfair, most teachers will help seniors as they are trying to finish there classes to graduate. he does not care.
Nice enough, but boring. Webassigns are frustrating, pointless, and barely relevant. He expects the material to be second nature on the tests, if you get stuck at all you're basically screwed and run out of time. If you don't really need to know the material that in-depth, choose a different professor.
RUN AWAY..RUN FAR AWAY. This man's goal in life is to make this class as hard as possible for everyone. He loves to say things in latin just to confuse everyone. Webassigns are a waste and the test is nothing like anything you do in class or the WA. Oh and forget about partial credit, one mistake and you might as well accept an F. Take Banks!!!
He is a good teacher and fair. The tests are hard, but a little studying will help out. Examples given in class are usually on the test and resemble webassigns. Going to his office hours helps out a lot.
Had honors 201... Was a complete joke. Never even let us know what the grading rubric was. Don't take
Hardest professor I've had. Very arrogant about teaching, feels he shouldn't have to explain something more than once. Don't email him with questions, gives you vague explanations or says "look at the file I sent." Doesn't seem to want to help you out at all, grades really hard, tests are really hard. Change your major
Warren is tough, as I'm sure you can see from the other comments posted, but he is fair. What makes him tough is the fact that he expects you to do work, which at the college level you should be able to deal with. Read his files, go to class, go to SI, read the book. If you're still sinking, GO TO OFFICE HOURS. He's tough, but he wants to help you
Warren is a very hard teacher, but his students will learn a lot. I tried to get out when I first found out I had him, but I'm glad I stayed. Practice tests are just like the tests and the applications are relevant. Use the book and go to class and you'll do fine.
People say Warren is hard, but fair. However, I have a had a lot of hard professors at NCSU and Warren was one of the most arrogant and condescending professors I've come across. His final was horrendous. It took most of the class 3 hours to complete. His tests are very difficult. It is EXTREMELY hard to make an A! Avoid taking his class.
Run away, run far away. Dr. Warren is a very difficult teacher and achieving A is almost impossible. Class averages on the tests were very low. He has no desire to help the students and he will never explain something twice. He doesn't care if a person doesn't grasp the concepts. The worst and most disrespectful professor I have ever encountered.
I heard in class people were already doing reviews of the class, so here's my 2 cents. Went to see the guy for the first time privately yesterday and I wish I had gone sooner. It was comforting talking over my concerns. Personally I like his sense of humor and the info is HARD, yet I dont feel impossible. Warrens an acquired taste but not too ba
Decent lecturer, but I saw him in his office a few times and he was completely rude and pretentious (Napoleon complex I believe). Exams are way too difficult, his assignments are useless for test prep. I put more than enough effort into this course and still received the lowest grade I've ever gotten in a class. Terrible experience all around.
I heard all kinds of terrible things about Dr. Warren before taking the class, but I largely thought they were exaggerations and I decided to give him a chance: HUGE MISTAKE! He is INCREDIBLY arrogant and condescending. Very difficult to approach. Tests are insanely difficult for a 200 level class. Webassign=useless. Avoid if possible.
Without trying to seem slanderous, I'm not sure why NCSU would ever hire this guy. I think they should fire him, he's not concerned with students learning as much as he is making himself feel superior to his students. He's arrogant and condescending and lacks the teaching skills to explain things on multiple levels. Major thumbs down, the worst.
He was not a bad professor. He explained things well. His jokes were corny but he tried to keep the class entertaining. He called people out if they left class early and didn't talk to him about it.Nothing said if talked beforehand. Its rude to leave midclass.Class wasnt impossible.require a lot of time for the homeworks.Dont take if your sensitive.
He is a great lecturer. He takes his time explaining things and the class notes are very useful. He provides you with all you need to know for the test. They are hard, but be is very obvious what material is going to be on the test
There isn't much to say other than, rude, awful class, hard, etc. Don't Take and if you do...don't expect much from him. I hear everyone say Take Banks.
I confirm that he is RUDE and ARROGANT, but knowledgeable about chemistry. Note, if you fail the Final Exam, you automatically fail class (even if you have an A- in the class prior to exam - like my friend). I think he does care about his students, but he seems to care way more about himself. I do not recommend this professor. Final = very hard
Warren is a famously awful teacher. A couple years back he was put on probation for failing such a high percentage of his class, but he's untouchable because he's tenured. It's no secret that Warren is a jerk, rude, obnoxious and will make you work 10x harder for the grade than other teachers. All the horror stories are TRUE.
I've had bad teachers in the past but none worse than Robert Warren. Save yourself a massive headache and avoid him if at all possible. His class is so hard my lab TA couldn't figure out any of the HW problems when I asked for help. BTW that cane he carries is actually a hidden sword. Idk why he feels he needs to break the law but he scares me.
Terrible...... No more than that. I needed .23 % to pass and I pleaded to him pass me and he said he said no.
He is a great professor who teaches at the college level. His tests are a bit tough, but it is all material that is covered quite well in class
Dr. Warren is an absolutely terrific lecturer. He provides very detailed explanations and applications of the concepts and makes the lecture interesting. The course required 3++ hours of work outside of class per hour spent in lecture. Exams are very challenging. I can say that I learned a lot. I enjoyed his class and would recommend it.
Robert Warren is one of the worst teachers I've ever had. It's obvious he or his TA's have written some of these reviews. I hated waking up every morning to go to his class in the Spring. He provides no study guides and his tests are unbelievably hard. I honestly think he doesn't care about the success of his students.
Warren is not as bad as the awful reviews make him out to be. I took the class over the summer (8am) along with the lab that met twice a week, worked part time, and commuted 10 hours a week and ended up with a B+ in the class. Tests were hard, but fair. Practice tests were great for getting a feel for the real tests. The class is difficult though.
Currently trying to go thru this class. What a pain, I'm struggling with the webassign and there doesn't seem to be any study materials for tests. I think the teacher is a little self absorbed and his jokes are pretty lame.
Terrible.
Dr. Warren has a heart comparable to that of the Grinch. Sometimes he tries to act nice, but actions speak much much much louder than words. Avoid him; he is a horrendous teacher. WebAssigns, lectures, and exams have absolutely nothing in common. Chemistry used to be my favorite subject.
I had no interested in chemistry prior to taking 201 and now I have even less. Super high suck factor here, going to class is ultra boring, teacher doesn't do much to engage you and the webassign doesn't have anything to do with the tests or lab. Only good thing I can say about the class is its almost over. Idk why they require this BS class :/
If you are not a slacker disregard all the other comments about Dr. Warren. His lectures are very clear and you can tell he really cares. Pay attention in class and do the Webassign and practice tests. He doesn't try to trick you on tests. If you are not very diligent and procrastinate dont expect any miracles.
In Dr. Warren's class you have two choices: to listen to his non-stop lectures or to take notes and study later. He doesn't stop talking to let you take notes and what you practice on webassign will not help you at all for tests. I got an A in the lab, which required just as much work as the class, and a D in the lecture. Will not reply to emails.
A hard class. Dr. Warren is a very good teacher. The practice tests that he passes out a few days before the test are almost identical to the real test so study those.
very difficult course when you are taking it esp if you do not have an aptitude for math. would recommend asking friends/ tutors for help instead of him because he will often give you a more complicated answer than your question. smart guy- better off teaching grads > undergrads
Honestly, he has a bad attitude and is not pleasant in class. This detracts from an already difficult class.
His lecture notes were not very useful on the webassigns. His tests were hard but doable if you put plenty of time in. He also curved the tests generously.
His exams are legendary, and I don't mean that in a good way.
This professor take a bit to get used to. He explains things using really big words which makes it hard to understand what he is saying sometimes but he usually explains things multiple times before he moves on so you have a little bit to figure out what he means. once you get used to him he is great. He is always there if you need help!!
You'll have to work for your grade, but everything on the tests is gone over in the class and on the homework. He gives out a practice test beforehand that is almost identical, so make sure to do that. Tells really geeky jokes and makes lame metaphors, but he knows what he's talking about, and he genuinely wants to help.
Not that hard. He teaches very clearly. Everyone else is just complaining that it's not high school easy. Do you homework and the practice tests and you'll do fine
He explains the subject very well, much better than I expected based on past comments. Tests were comprehensive but not impossible, and were also curved. Homework was not extremely hard either. Practice tests are almost identical to the real tests and were extremely helpful come test time.
I would not recommend this professor. He is a good teacher but he uses a overhead projection with notes he wrote out ahead of time. As you copy down notes, he speaks, so it was hard for me to keep up w/ what he said while i wrote. Also tests are not exactly identical. Its more like the prac tests asks 5+4=? and the tests asks 7+?=9 just a heads up.
Was warned before class about the difficulty of this course and Warren's tests. When I prepared as he guided, I was successful in his class. I feel well prepared as I continue in Chemistry. Recommend him to anyone taking CH 201.
He definitely knows his stuff, but the way he teaches it may not be suitable for everyone. He uses pre-written notes with unfavorable ink colors on overhead projector screens, and depending on where you sit in the hall, you may not be able to read them clearly. Seating choice is crucial.
Very smart, but also very confusing. Has pre-worked examples as notes. Doesn't answer emailed questions clearly. WA would have questions on material not covered in lecture or in the book. I like chemistry (got an A+ in 101) but was confused from the moment he started teaching. Probably best for someone who wants to teach themselves from the book.
If you get stuck in this class and have a decent background in Chemistry, then you might as well just drop it from day 1. His lectures are completely useless, is constantly sending out these files that "pertain" to class for you to read after as well as trying to get you to go to SI. I think her forgets we have other classes. The worst teacher
Explains concepts pretty well, but doesn't deviate from pre-written projector slides and is incredibly unhelpful if you have trouble. Also can be very rude, and its obvious students are not his priority. Tests are difficult but not overly so.
Had him for summer session. Lots of Monty Python references. Kinda dry, little boring, especially @ 8 AM. Pay attention to the documents he sends out. He does it for a reason. Seems to be a little rude, but I never really talked to him 1 on 1. Tests are difficult, but achievable. Study ahead though. Webassign HW.
Honestly, one of the worst teachers I've had. Explains things in really roundabout-unnecessarily long-repetitive-confusing ways. Refuses to use 21st century technology so have fun hand writing everything. Test problems are much harder than webassign problems. The final was miserable.
This is class is a large amount of work and is a weeder class. He makes it very clear that the class is hard and follows that exact same notes every semester to conduct the class the exact same way. This class is doable if it is your hardest class and the rest of your course load is easy. He is not an easy instructor.
He hasn't finished grading the finals yet, which was super hard. So, the rating I give him will depend on the grade I get on the final and the course...so I'll be back on here soon enough...
Had an A- in the class before the final. Studied all day long for the final before I had to take it the next day and felt fully prepared. The final was about 8 pages long - unnecessarily long. Ended up with a solid B in the class. Great way to screw the hard working students over. Enough said.
Dr. Warren is a very nice funny man. However, he is not the best teacher, he is continuously going off on tangents that have nothing to do with the material. The class is pretty hard, and the tests are even worse. I suggest you find a person that has taken the class already so you can see their old tests.
Worst professor at NCSU ever! Is not clear on material presented and still uses overhead slides, complete with errors from previous semesters. Don't waste your time with Warren, take the class from anyone else that will actually teach you something.
This professor is very hard to follow; I would recommend anyone in the chemistry department besides Dr. Warren. He seems to over complicate things that could be taught in a much simpler way.
In class lectures don't correlate to the Webassign homework. Enjoy reading the emails or "supplementary" notes to understand a simplistic version of the much harder questions. Exams are all short answer, the final was 16 pages of short answer. Practice exams are your best bet at doing mediocre.
Warren is the worst professor in the entire state of North Carolina. If you don't have all the tests worked out from the previous semester, don't even bother taking this class.
Warren was the worst professor I have ever taken. He is not clear at all, uses overhead slides, and his worktests are incredibly hard. You will see no difference in your test grade if you go to class or if you skip every class.
It can be hard to focus during class, but if you really pay attention to what he's saying when he's teaching you will learn. He does a really good job of walking students through each step to help them be better problem solvers. He's pretty helpful and answers any questions people have. Despite all his haters he keeps a positive upbeat attitude.
Dr. Warren has quite the reputation here on Hate My Professors. Please do not be afraid of taking his class. He explains concepts clearly using slides, and walks through each one in detail. Tests are challenging, but if you put an honest effort into reading the textbook (just do it!), paying attention in class, and doing Webassign, you will do well
Don't listen to the haters, Dr. Warren may have few bad puns up his sleeve, but he is a great teacher, and gives you all the resources you need to be successful in chemistry.
Dr. Warren gets a bad reputation because his lectures are boring, he can be a bit snarky, and he tells jokes that almost always fall flat. However, he is not a terrible professor. He has tons of office hours and is very helpful and friendly if you go in for help. His tests are identical to the practice tests, so study those and you will be fine.
Warren is an very fun guy to have as a teacher, but you will not learn anything in his class, whether you take notes and pay attention or not. His tests are incredibly wordy and loquacious . Memorize the practice exams he gives you and you should be able to make it out alive.
Doctor Warren gets a lot of hate but he is a funny, nice guy who will help you when you ask. You have to work hard for your grade; his tests are long and difficult but he grades fairly. Overall I enjoyed his entertaining lectures and feel very prepared for future chemistry classes.
Better have old tests
His tests are long and difficult. He has an odd way of teaching, likes to draw pictures. It takes getting used to. You will have to look back over your notes and read the textbook to put together what you actually need to know. When he sends you files through email, OPEN THEM. And his practice exams look almost identical to the real thing!
I took Dr. Warren for CH201 and LOVED IT!!!! Although I ended up with a B in the class, I've never been more proud of a B in my life. The class was definitely difficult, but if you pay attention in class, do the homework, and study HARD for exams you'll do fine. He also cracks really cheesy nerdy jokes which I greatly appreciated.
Dr. Warren talked constantly, but not about class. I recommend NOT taking this class if you already struggle with chemistry. I took this class in summer and we had to skip chapters because he couldn't finish his daily lectures in time. His notes are also a bit hard to follow and he goes through them very quickly.
Dr. Warren is a terrible professor and I honestly think any positive review is from him. No correlation between attendance and grade. hard homework. make sure to find old tests and do those as your study habit.
Even after I didn't do too well on his first test, I still liked him. It went downhill when I went to ask him a question about something and he gave me a'duh' look and asked if I had been in the previous class. It took me forever to finally get a clear answer out of him. This said, I do not recommend him, he ruined chemistry for me.
Tests are long and difficult, but like the practice exams. MAKE SURE you check your tests within 2 class days because I didn't check until it was too late and that was the difference between a C and a B on my test (6 points were taken off for a CORRECT answer; the TA messed up). Read the notes he sends and pay attention to the examples in class.
Dr. Warren is a very nice person and has an extremely odd sense of humor. However, this class was extraordinarily frustrating. He does give practice exams similar to the actual exam, but this class was exceptionally challenging. There is no extra or partial credit, so know your stuff before you step into an exam with him. Wouldn't take him again.
Long difficult tests, difficult lectures, tons of information presented in a hard to learn manner. Do not recommend. He's really rude if you e-mail him. Only semi-helpful if you go to his office. Had a tutor and put all my time into it and still couldn't do it.
Class notes don't always follow hw assignments so expect to teach yourself out of the text. Minimal help via email. Graded only on exams &hw, all hw counts. Practice exam keys are just a reference to hw problems, so if you don't do well on the hw you're screwed. Made not 1 but 2 hw assignments due over spring break. Take anyone else.
I did not find him to be clear in lectures. When he tried to make a funny he would often forget what he was talking about. If you take this class be a good note taker and be able to do it fast. He strives to teach you conceptually keep that in mind you might do well.
He doesn't know how to use moodle and makes you go to a separate website with little information. He doesn't post any notes online and instead chooses to email you many useless example problems. His tests are unreasonably hard and the questions are poorly worded. He gave 5 webassigns within 2 days of each other during the weekend before finals.
Wouldn't recommend. You have to show work to get credit on tests with no partial credit, and it's not multiple choice. He's not a pleasant man and rude when responding to emails without helping. I had to work for an A+ by COMPLETELY understanding the practice exams, reading the book, and reading his supplemental information he sends via email.
Dr. Warren gets a bad wrap around campus and sometimes it can be justified. But, I had a good experience in his class. His notes are hand-written and not posted online, so there is an incentive to come to class. His examples are very helpful for homework and exams, which are very similar to practice exams. Work hard and study and you'll do fine.
He was always give real life examples and tries to make the subject more relatable to others. I was somewhat familiar with the course material before due to taking AP Chemistry, but if you do the homework he assigns and do the practice tests he gives, doing well in his class isn't too difficult.
Best Chemistry professor I've had so far, and I am a chemical engineering major. Lectures are very interesting, as he relates calculations to real world examples. Several tests were almost the exact same as the practice tests, but not all of them, so know more than just the practice tests.
Couldn't have made the class harder if he spoke it in another language. Often went off point and was unclear what the point was. Tests will massacre you even though practice tests were almost identical since there is no follow through or partial credit, so slip up once it is all wrong. Take anyone else. Not worth the GPA dive.
He often spends time in class trying to make jokes that aren't funny and have NO relevance to the material being learned. The test's are like the practice test he sends out, but if you miss any kind of work, then you'll probably lose points. All notes are hand-written and not posted online, so, go to class, otherwise it's rough.
I think Dr. Warren catches a lot of flak because of the subject he teaches. I am currently in his quantitative chemistry class and it is difficult, but Warren is a fair teacher. He really wants his students to learn and is very passionate about what he does; he does not put things on his tests he doesn't teach, and he does partial grading, too.
His grade distribution sucks, the worst of any CH201 prof at state. He knows and doesn't care. He doesn't post notes so you have to attend class to learn unless you want to read the textbook (which is more helpful anyway) He always plans his second test past the drop date, so you don't know your chances of getting through it before it's too late.
I had no problem with Dr. Warren. His lectures were helpful, and his tests were VERY representative of what he presented in class - no curveballs. For two of the tests, the practice tests were very (very) similar to the actual test, so study those. I went to his office hours once and he was helpful and a lot of fun to talk to. Overall, I liked him.
I have no idea where the terrible rep comes from. Dr. Warren's class was hard, but really pretty fair. The exams were totally reflective of the lengthy examples he did in class (and similar to practice exams). Just don't get bogged down in his word problems. He's also quite the nerd - which is awesome, if you are yourself a nerd. I liked the class.
He's very thorough and really tries to teach students the concepts. The one and only gripe I have with him is how he grades. Tests are 90%, homework is 10%. The tests aren't crazy hard, but the weird thing is only your letter grade matters. I got a 97 and 96. But I may as well have gotten a 92 and a 90. I'd have the same grade. So I feel cheated.
I thought the reviews on him were harsh, until I took his class. He is the worst professors I have had. His tests are 10x harder than anything you do for homework or in class. I had a tutor I met 2x a week, went to SI weekly and did all my homework & still did not do well in his class. 25% of the class made F's. He shouldn't be allowed to teach.
His lectures don't explain the material well, he does overly long practice examples he doesn't even finish in class so he emails the solutions to you. In fact, he emails everything to you because he doesn't use wolfware at all. If you email him asking for help he'll be rude to you and say he already went over it and ask if you went to class.
Dr. Warren really is not that bad. He's actually great if you are smart and able to understand abstract concepts and his good vocabulary. His explanations during lecture are incredibly thorough and easy to understand. His "practice tests" are almost identical to the actual tests so if you understand those you are basically guaranteed an A.
My experience with Dr. Warren was that he's not a good professor. He's extremely passionate about what he's teaching, which is good, but his assignments do not align with exams. Exams are 90% of your grade so it's easy to fail. Doing well on the homework is not an indication that you will do good. The tests are hard to understand
Dr. Warren is actually not that bad. Especially if your in the college of engineering. I am a senior in computer science and took the class as a pre requisite for dental school. This class is one of the easiest classes ive ever taken at state. Go over the previous tests, they are very similar. Try to find more than one past test to go over though.
Warren's really not that bad if you actually put some time into studying. The practice tests are great examples of what you'll see on the real thing. I found his humor really enjoyable, if a bit dry. This is definitely a class where a few hours of studying before the exam will net you at least a B.
This class wasn't nearly as bad as I anticipated. The material was tough, but Dr. Warren knows how to explain it well. The exams were very challenging, but if you study the quizzes and do the homework, you'll be in good shape. I thought his humor was funny.
Dr. Warren is very entertaining and funny. The class is hard but hes a great professor. He is especially helpful at office hours.
Great guy. Pay attention in class, but he is great for help during office hours or after lecture. Gives real life example and applications of chemistry. I hated CH101, but CH201 with Warren is good.
Everyone who failed the class probably chose not to use his resources. He may do annoying things like not posting notes, making homework due on inconsistent days, and only going through 2 or 3 problems in an entire lecture, BUT he gives you PLENTY of chances to learn. He is great in office hours. He supplies many supplemental docs. Come to class...
Warren is really sweet and is SUPER passionate about chemistry. I'm awful at chemistry but I have been doing okay on his exams (just show up to class, take notes, ask questions, go to office hours). His rating is low because his tests come out of left field, but if you work on his practice exams (and find other ones from past years) you'll be okay!
Partial credit is nice and there are a lot of resources but it's annoying that his notes aren't online and he doesn't use moodle, it's all on a silly website. He curves like crazy but damn his tests are hard and his practice tests only have the answers and not an explanation so that's annoying. Just lots of things that annoyed me.
Very lecture heavy and spends more time going over concepts than actually doing problems, so when it comes to Web Assign, you're stuck looking up the questions for someone else to teach you. Nice enough guy, just doesn't do a very good job preparing you for exams (his practice exams are nothing like actual exam). Studying from past exams helped me.
Warren is a great teacher for CH201. He is extremely thorough in both explaining general concepts and working through specific examples. He very frequently advertises his office hours, so there is no way to be left without help. His tests can be confusing, but are incredibly similar to his practice tests, so spend time on those well in advance.
Not a good teacher for CH 201. Exams were difficult. HIs lectures were long and confusing. I would not recommend.
Warren is a great professor, especially given that the material is so difficult to begin with. He offers multiple resources and is super easy to get in contact with through email or office hours. Be prepared for some Monty Python jokes. Warren really cares about his students and does offer some extra credit on webassign.
His lectures are pretty straightforward. He can go far into detail with things, but it's often relevant and interesting. Has a lot of "awkward" humor but is overall pleasant. Really knows what he's talking about. Practice exams are great representations of the real exams (and super similar too). Go to office hours, he's really helpful there.
Dr. Warren is suck a good professor. His notes are easy to follow and really organized. The only thing is they aren't posted so class is required. He has an odd sense of humor but he is funny at times.
Dr. Warren really cares about his students. Class is madantory since no notes are posted online. Go to office hours and show him that you are willing to make an effort, then he will 100% help you. His tests do have some trick questions, but they are VERY similar to the practice tests that he gives.
Warren's funny & a pretty good teacher but WA is hell; there's a LOT of homework. He doesn't teach everything on the WA either so I did a lot of googling and digging through the textbook. He can be rude during office hours; if you're confused he assumes you didn't go to class (I went to every lecture). I got an A but it took a lot of work.
i have NEVER met someone who can talk about nothing for so long. the lectures are long and tend to focus on conceptual material rather than practice examples and the homework is completely different from the in class examples. Dr. Warren goes on really long unrelated tangents. even going to the SI sessions doesn't help a ton.
Really hard grader and too many questions on tests. Tests are worth 90% of your grade. Definitely do not take especially during the summer if you are not confident in chemistry or math.
Warren is the WOAT. His lectures are awful he only does 2 problems on a topic and then you do the homework they are nothing like what he does in class. He literally talk for 50 minutes on something thats not even important. Only good thing is the practice tests are just like the actual tests. He also can be really rude
He's very rude. Goes on tangents a lot, does two problems that do not pertain to the WebAssigns. The WebAssigns don't help you on the exams, only the practice tests. He is a very harsh grader and is very sensitive when people leave WHEN CLASS IS SUPPOSED TO END (ppl might have other obligations?)? Never again.
Dr. Warren has a much worse reputation than he deserves. His lectures are a bit slow so it can be hard to stay focused, but if you stick it out, his examples really do help you complete WA, and the files he posts are also helpful. He tries to be funny and usually fails, but he has good intentions. Tests are very similar to practice exams.
Some lectures were very helpful while others made no sense. He tends to give a lot of information that doesn't really matter, so it can get boring and annoying. Going to class didn't help all that much, honestly I mainly taught myself the material. Tons of web assigns.
If I had not learned most of this material before, I would probably be very lost. He talks too much, to the point where he begins confusing the students. I would recommend using an extra source for learning the material. It is important to at least copy down in-class examples for use on WebAssign, and do the practice tests.
Whew chile, by far the worst professor at NC State. His exams are super hard and long to the point where you may not finish. He does not grade the exams himself, he has at least 5 TA's to grade them, so they are very out of wack in the sense that the grading is inconsistent across the board. He gives a lot of web assigns and the exams are worth 90%
Dr. Warren is passionate about the material. He gives many homework assignments, and his tests are heavily weighted. His TAs grade inconsistently on exams, and he will test on material from the textbook even if he did not cover it in class. You will survive if you take this course, but it will be less enjoyable than with other professors.
Okay, I don't know what all the fuss is about for Warren's class. If you actually try you will do well. This class is probably the hardest 202 class but you will absolutely learn the most. Review the practice exams, know them, and you're golden. Takes effort, but worth it. I'm not even good at chemistry but I did well in his class. Take warren!
I really can't say what other students (and Warren's grade distributions) haven't already said. He often goes on long tangents in class that range from mildly helpful to completely unrelated. If you're the kind of person that needs to examples of problems done in front of you, you're not going to get many in this class.
If you do the practice tests, you can get an A on his tests no problem. He may seem standoffish at first, but as soon as you talk to him, he is very friendly and helpful. Go through your tests and check that your grade is correct because both my friend and I had tests that should have been 10 points higher than what was given(Warren will fix it)
Dr. Warren has very high standards for his students and his tests are very difficult. That would be much more reasonable if he actually did a good job of teaching and going through examples. I would highly recommend taking someone else, especially if you don't have a strong chemistry background as he treats this like a high level chem class.
Dr. Warren is honestly an amazing professor. If you speak to him in office hours and obtain help, the course is not difficult. His tests are application heavy, but if you do the work such as reading the textbook and doing examples found in the text and notes, you will pass. Practice tests are also so helpful!
This man is one of the worst teachers Ive ever had. I understand it is important for the students to read and study in their own timeBut I should not have to teach myself chemistry in order to pass this class. Even though his practice and real test are similar theyre badly worded and designed. If you ask him a question he'll refer you to YOUR notes
I tried to switch out of his class due to reviews on this site but was pleasently surprised when he turned out to be a great professor. If you go to lecture he works through helpful examples and sometimes goes off on a tangent you zone out for, but overall its very useful. The practice tests are VERY telling of what the actual test will be like.
Dr. Warren is given a bad rep, I'm assuming by people who don't know what a typical stem class load entails. Examples in class are useful for WA but he doesn't have time to go over every type of problem on WA. WAs can be a lot but ALL ch201 profs use the same problems. If you know the practice tests and put in work, you'll be just fine.
Dr. Warren is awesome! I received a decent grade on the first test but on the second test I received a D+. I was really upset and went to his office hours, he was so kind and literally went through the test with me. I was able to use his advice and pull my grade up to an A-. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you will be confused if you don't come.
So, to begin this, I SUCK AT CHEMISTRY!! It's not that I don't try; Chemistry just isn't my forte. Dr. Warren is really tough. His exams are hard. Sometimes I could follow what he was saying but most of the time, I was lost. After finding outside help though, his supplements are super helpful. In comparison to the other profs, he's awesome though.
For me, lectures were a total waste of time and unnecessary. I would suggest just reading the textbook, making notes from it, and mastering the practice tests he posts (very important!). The final is long and tough, but it is basically the combination of the other exams. There are way too many webassign HWs. Tons. Counting only 10%...
Warren is very lecture heavy and just goes on on about his examples. Even though his practice test are telling of the real test, they are still different. You will have lots of webassign that will only count a little portion of your final grade. His tests are are all open response so you are screwed if you dont truly know the material.
Easiest stem class I've ever taken. Go to lecture (actually pay attention) and MEMORIZE the practice test/test from last year and you can prob ace the class. TAs change every semester but they were VERY fair graders in my experience. There's usually only one webassign/wk. If you have chegg this class is easy money.
Lucky if he gets through three examples in 1.25 hours. Spends more time on tangents or talking about why he wants you to know the material than explanations. Tons of HW weighted lightly, covers material two days before the test then tests you on it. Tests are FRQs. Wouldn't recommend unless you are good at chemistry and just took Ch101.
Lectures rely on handwritten notes that he doesn't upload after class so if you didn't catch something you have to go to office hours on your own time. Test 1 is very similar to practice test but test 2 and 3 depend on how far he gets in lecture so be careful. Partial credit will save you on tests since they're free response so try to write stuff.
I had Warren during the COVID-19 situation. He is old fashioned, and likes to stick to handwritten notes. He adjusted the course as we progressed in order to make it possible for his students to obtain a higher grade. He is straightforward, but cares about his student succeeding. Old tests are similar to new ones, and attendance is not needed.
Monty Python jokes are a constant. Look I wouldn't recommend this prof unless you're an phenomenal student or have a knack for chemistry. I got A's in orgo1 and 2 as well as chem 1 and barely scraped by because the material was difficult and tests mean just about EVERYTHING. show up to class and use that book as your bible.
Dr. Warren is a good person and is pretty funny. Unfortunately he was not a great lecturer. He makes the class way harder than other professors teaching this class. He goes into way more detail than necessary. Having the class online (corona)was better because it allowed students to take their time going through the notes and grasping the concept.
Dr. Warren is nice and cares about his students succeeding, as he helped our grades during the COVID crisis after many of us tanked the second exam after it being moved online. However, his lectures are dry and doesn't get the material across well. I had to get lots of help to succeed, so my success wasn't on his teaching abilities. Take another!
If you are someone who struggles in chemistry, this class will be very challenging. The homeworks are very long and tedious and only count for 10% of the final grade. The only other grades received in the class are the 4 test grades and the graders are very very tough. I have emailed the professor multiple times with questions and he never answered
If you enjoy chemistry, you'll love Dr. Warren. He teaches you to understand, not to memorize. He's a little quirky, but he truly cares about his students. He gives great real-life examples and exams are very similar to practice tests. Don't be intimidated by the ratings on here. Take this class!
Don't let the other reviews scare you. I took this my first semester, not having taken a chem class in years, and did fine without the textbook. Dr. Warren lectures are crucial, his notes are also an exact replica of the test. Pay attention and you will do well. Very dry humor, but going to office hours is very helpful too if confused.
Dr. Warren provides all the materials to teach you - textbook, examples, help files and audio lectures. He will prepare you to teach yourself material for the MCAT, PCAT, DAT, etc. Warren is not going to spoon feed material, but he won't leave you to dry when you're lost. He answered my numerous emails about homework within the hour.
Warren doesn't care about his class or students, the recorded lectures clearly have no though or effort put into him, and if you ask for assistance he will simply tell you to read the notes again.
Just read the textbook and gives you test. No lectures, no content. you have to connect your own dots.
Okay I just want to give some tips to my fellow panicker when they realize who their professor is. Warren is the worst professor and believes the the best/wisest and will blame you for bad grades. In addition to his 15 minute audio lectures you're going to need to buy course hero for a month and print all the files they have for his class and pray.
He is the worst chem professor I have ever had. He does not help through email and he certainly does not care about his students. I had to work on my own and I ended up having a C which I changed to credit only. Will not take him ever again. Worst experience ever.
Dont. Just dont.
Worst teacher I have ever had in my ENTIRE LIFE and that's saying something. He is no help at all. I learn by taking notes out of the textbook every day. He is rude over email too. I regret choosing him.
This man might actually be one of the worst professors at NC State, not even kidding. I had coronavirus and he refused to give me extensions on any of my assignments. I had to email my advisor and she had to report him to the head of the Chemistry Department. Does not give 2 craps about his students. only posts 10 min audio lectures. hard to learn.
DO. NOT. TAKE. I will admit that my grade also represents my effort, however this professor acts stuck-up. very lazy. Would never recommend. This class is not the easiest but he does not make it any easier.
He did not teach us anything throughout the semester. I had to use the textbook and take teach myself everything. His notes are useless due to the fact that his handwriting is terrible. Hes lazy sends so many emails, audio lectures suck. As a stem major avoid this man. My success in this class was attributed to self-teaching not him.
Grading rubric is 10% Webassign HW and 90% tests. Huge curves, arrogant, terrible handwriting. Straight up not helpful. Take anyone else.
This professor sucks. Dont take him. Hes super hard and does not provide much positive feedback. You essentially have to teach yourself.
I taught myself everything. He gave us no helpful (or legible) notes, no lectures, and no guidance. The textbook is helpful, but it still doesn't fully prepare you for the tests. Warren responded rudely to all my polite emails. I contacted my advisor and she said over 50% of the class dropped after the first test. WOULD NOT TAKE!
He was one of the worst professors I have ever had. His solution to online school was giving us poorly written notes that we had to interpret ourselves. He was super rude in emails and belittled me any chance he could. His syllabus was also TERRIBLY written. Chegg saved my life w HW, avoid him online but he might be better in person
This guy sucks. I got very unlucky and broke my calculator the day of the first exam, and tried to tell him that. He gave me no leniency. I got a 45 on the exam because I lost half credit on every problem for not putting the numerical answer, even though I did the algebra correctly. If I had a working calculator, I would've gotten a 90. Unfair.
He is the worst. If you have the option to pick another professor do and save your sanity. He responds rudely to emails unprovoked. He holds no kind of lectures only useless audio recordings that are less than 15 minutes. You basically have to teach yourself the content or just vibe.
I took CH202 online Spring 2021 Semester with Professor Warren, it was awful. It is currently the last week of instruction and no grades have been put into Moodle and therefore I do not know where I stand in the class. The tests are difficult, but do-able. My biggest issue is that this is basically a teach yourself class.
This is the 2nd course I have taken with Dr. Warren and can vouch that the comments here are NOT reflective of his quality as a teacher. 201 and 202 are difficult courses and can dismay students no matter who the professor is, but Dr. Warren does a great job giving in depth explanations and being available to answer questions outside the classroom.
I took this class to fulfill some requirements for my chem path. Little did I know that I would be absolutely LAMBASTED by his grading. Tests and quizzes were taxing on me personally and I felt like I was lambasted every step of the way.
Began doing online zoom lectures twice a week which were incredibly helpful. Class structure can be rough, with three tests and final exam which make up pretty much your entire grade. With that said Dr. Warren is a passionate professor who tries his best to help his students learn. Very receptive to questions and will not leave you hanging.
Lectures are very unhelpful, the class schedule leaves you with no time to review for tests, a TERRIBLE grading system, tests make up 90% of your grade, very textbook heavy, snarky replies to emails, no partial credit on tests, and no rounding up on grades (92.9 doesn't equal 93). There's a reason why there are so many bad reviews. Avoid if you can
Lectures were useless & notes were illegible. You have to read the textbook if you want to learn anything. Replies to emails pretty quick but expect rude & snarky replies. Tests make up most of the grade, they are doable but you have to study. I did okay because I did well in CH101 and I watched tons of videos, not because of him. Avoid if possible
Dr. Warren's online class wasn't good. He'd bad audio only lectures and PDF help files with ok optional zoom lecture each morning. I would recommend just reading the textbook instead of the audio. His confusing grading had percent scores curved to a GPA scale, he then chose what GPA was each final grade. For summer he'd 2 tests, a final, and HW.
Do not take him for online chem 201 i studied so hard for his exams only to fail because his questions did not relate to the homework. Never relied on his lectures worst class and prof ever. AVOID IF POSSIBLE
They should have labeled this class "flipped," because I ended up teaching myself the material. The zoom sessions weren't really that helpful, but the webassigns and practice exams are similar to the actual exams so make sure to do those. Your grade is mostly based on your test scores, but the tests (on webassign) have 3 submissions per problem.
Didn't go to lectures because they were useless and the notes/audio files he provides are confusing instead of helpful. I taught myself all the material from the textbook, and that worked fine. Tests were on webassign, so it was 3 submissions but no partial credit.
Take any other Chem professor but him. This comes from a student who has never failed a class (or even come close), yet failed his. He didn't offer any resources for help. His lectures focused on one problem rather than learning the actual concept so you were never equipped for homework or exams. I don't recommend him to any other student. Very bad
This was the worst class I've ever experienced at NCSU. He did not provide any Zoom classes, PPts or office hours. He had illegible handwriting and expected us to teach ourselves. When concerns were expressed, he basically said that anyone not doing well in his class were lazy or stupid. His arrogance & apathy towards his students is not excusable.
Incredibly rude if you asked questions that he didn't feel like repeating. The online course format was very disorganized and his notes are only handwritten and hard to read. Dr. Warren was the worst professor I have had at NC State.
