This guy is a physics machine and a great teacher
Difficult class for some. No curves at all. Great presentation of material!
Cares about the students, effective teacher.

i think he is fair and easy, some friends don't agree

Only teaches, no research. Must be doing some drug-- is too enthusiastic
Very clear in lecture, Enthusiastic about Physics!!
Fun prof, loves his work, easy class.

A true science geek that cares, but grades tough
Can get lots of weird quotes from this guy... did you know that the Omega is sexier than an O ?????
cool teacher, tests are pretty easy, grades the class fair. no curve but lowered grading scale
Smart, clear, helpfull. Best physics prof i've had.
Tough class, but he explains the subject very well. You have to work hard and study, but it pays off. He pulls no tricks on the exams.
He is tough, but only because he wants you to understand the material. He knows his****, and you better get to know it too or fail...
couldn't ask for anyone better to take a class from!
This guy is a blast. He enjoys teaching physics and it shows in his class. He takes material that seems boring and makes it fun to learn. I actually enjoy going to class. His jokes are pretty funny too.
Best teacher at Tech, he could explain addition and it would be interesting due to his enthusiasm. I'm not sure what he is on, but can I have some please?
Knows physics. Is enthusiastic about physics and about learning; is very eager to offer assistance. Very fun to talk to in office hours (even if not about physics). All around awesome teacher.
Failed our whole class. NO CURVE!!
Got a CD didn't go to class or to resitation. Go to class you should get at least a C. No Curve.
this guy is a jerk :(
Got an AB in the class. No curve. I thought he explained everything very well and his tests weren't horrible. I would take him over Agin anytime!
He is a great teacher that goes through everything on the board and then gives a important examples. It seems like he actually cares if his students do good in his class.
Awesome teacher, If only he could rise up and slay the evil undead Agin.
I've had Dr. Weidman for several classes now, work for him in the PLC and even played on a softball team with him last summer. Just an awesome guy who gets really excited about Physics and knows what he is talking about. Definitely one of the best profs on campus.
Very clear and knowledgable. Lectures were actually thought provoking and interesting. He teaches a hard subject very well. Don't call him a bad professor because the material was difficult to learn. Reasonable exams. Got out with an A/B with lots of studying.
The first physics teaching robot was named Agin, it was a horrible mess. An updated version was constructed and designated Weidman, this model incorporated upgrades such as an understanding of physics, logical flow capacity, and a new software package featuring Microsoft Joke-Physics Edition.
His power points were cool and he did some interesting demo's in class. However, the only way I passed the class was through the online homework. The exams were really hard, and even though more than half the class failed, he wouldn't curve! He was kind of a jerk
The Weidman will destroy you. Step off bizno!
This teacher is the sickest robot ever. The only reason people come to class is the PRS system. This system consists of coming to class and sleeping until the next PRS question. Boring class, but you have to take it. Have fun tools
Good teacher of a hard subject to teach. Attempts to make class interesting (often doesnt succeed...but get information across). Exams are difficult but fair. Often can use reverse engineering to figure out answers and the answers you would get from typical wrong ways of doing it are not present.
Attempts to make class intersting, has a full schedule and often takes up more than 50 minutes, good test layouts.
Excellent lecturer but a terrible teacher. If you go into his office to ask questions he will stare at you like you're a moron, give you a vague answer (usually like how obvious it should be) and then say "students at this level should be able to do this intuitively." Very mean.
Weidman is TERRIFIC! He teaches very well. His PowerPoints are so great. He's the most prepared prof I've ever seen. His charisma is out of this world. And the best part is the low grading scale. 83% is an A! I should have a D in his class, but because of his grading scale, I've got a B. =)
Don't listen to the people who complain about Weidman. He's a good teacher, very enthusiastic about Physics. If you do the work in the class and study a little you should do just fine.
The weidmeister rocks. Easy and effective professor, what more could you ask for?
Doc Weidman is very smart and there is a lot to learn in his classroom but never take it any further that. Out of the classroom is where the concern begins; during individual interaction with Doc Weidman he treats you like you are too stupid for him to talk to.
He is a very good at explaining concepts and he has a very good teaching style.
Compared to some of the other profs teaching physics, Weidman seems like some sort of machine designed for the sole purpose of being awesome at explaining physics. His teaching style is clear, and his examples cover all of the necessary concepts step by step. Maybe a bit more boring if you already have some Physics know how, but great otherwise
He really is good. All the work he puts into his lectures makes you enjoy hem. But, as some pointed out, he treats you like stupid. Ask him a question and watch him give you his "you-dumb-piece-of-crap" look. Also, his tests are pretty tough, and need a lot of studying.
Absolutely amazing professor. Best ever.
Not a fan. He accused me of cheating and gave me a zero before he even asked me what the situation was (innocent until PROVEN guilty;NOT). He talks like a machine and talks down to you like you're a moron, don't bother trying to see him in office hours, you're too dumb to have conversation with him (so he thinks)
He is definately enthusiastic about the material, but he's still a jerk and he doesn't curve. I would not recommend him.
Excellent professor. He is very organized and the class is designed for you to succeed (no curve but an 84% is an A). As long as you do your Mastering Physics work and go to class your grade will stay relitivly high. The tests are pretty easy as long as you go over the practice exams he provides. Hard to approach with questions.
Excellent (see dictionary.com definition) had him for physics 1 and he was excellent. Then I Gary Agin for physics 2 and he was terrible, so I took physics 2 again with Weidman who by the way rules, He not only (unlike Agin) explains things, he explains things clearly.
Talks down to students and his handwriting sucks. But he is a good teacher and his lectures are not bad.
If given the choice of taking Bob or Gary Agin, it should be a no-brainer: Communicates the material clearly and is very knowledgable about eh subject. He's really excited about Physics and it shows... I recommend attending the review sessions prior to exams.
One HELL of a physics professor. I actually enjoy the class. His recitations don't put you to sleep either. One little piece of useful data: The problems in his recitations are carbon copies of the problems on Mastering Physics. If you get those right, you can nail Mastering
A good in class professor and his lectures are thought and flow well. He is super excited about the material; says "OH YEAAHH." Which makes him sounds like he is cumming during the demonstration, it's very funny though. He can be really rude to students who ask questions. He really hates students who don't know the material as well as he does.
Weidman Rules! His classes are awesome, and he is a great prof.
This guy is an absolute jerk, I had mono when I took this clas and therefore missed some of those retarded participation/attendence points. We are all in college now and do not have to go to class if we don't want to, we pay for it. I got A's on all of the exams, but got a BC overall b/c of not attending this guys class.
Best physics 1 teacher at Tech. Take him if you have the option. Most of his problem solving days are relevant to either mastering physics or exams. GO Weedman
Good teacher, enthusiastic and keep things interesting most of the time. If you like physics, this class shouldnt be overly difficult, especially if you have taken any physics in the past. You have to go to class due to iclickers, but its not that big of a deal. Overall, a good teacher
Weidman was a great teacher, but seemed distant. And he makes his test questions worth 6 points and doesnt give you enough time to finish
Dr. Weidman is an awesome teacher. The only problem I have with the course is the Mastering Physics program that all the homework is done on.
If you ask a question in class be prepared to be humiliated. Mastering physics sucks. Overall decent teacher, but all test questions are equally weighted and they should not be. something that takes 5 seconds to do is worth as much as a problem that can take you up to 10 minutes
Awesome teacher, explains things thouroughly and completely. If you pay attention, you will understand the material. Tests are tricky though, they make sure you know the material frontwards and backwards
Don't use scoop exams for a reference, if you know the material on the scoops 100% you'll suck up the actual exam.
pretty good. but physics is easy for me. my friends say that he is not too helpful in office hours.
He does a great job with physics. He works hard during the lectures and wastes no time at all. This man will not stop you from doing well in this class - it's all up to you.
Amazing, really cares about his subject and wants to make damn sure you know it too. Gets angry when you dont read the book so read if for your own damn good.
I had this guy for Mechanics for Physics majors, and I can tell you this: don't pass up a chance to have him for a professor. His enthusiasm for teaching physics is incredible. You can really tell that he cares about the subject, and he'll make damn sure that you learn it before you leave. Don't take him if you intend to not do homework. He's funny
He is a great professor , he explain everything in class & clear BUT if you go to his office hours for a question he will treat you like a stupid & you are suppose to know everything, he answer your question with a question . & once I asked him hours before the exam he told me I am not gonna do good in the exam
Great teacher but definitely lacking in personal skills and the ability to be friendly, but he's there to teach, not be your friend. He knows his stuff and explains it well. Had him for both PH1100 and 1200. Pay attention, read before class, and do the scoops and you will get an A.
In lectures he's very good. Clear, straitforward, explains well, and follows his tests and lectures well. However, if he gets 'derailed' from his planned lecture, he is not helpful and seriously lacks social finess. Read the book to keep up. If you need help past his lectures, seek it elsewhere, because he can be rude and is always unhelpfull.
If you take class with him, you'll learn the material whether you want to or not. He is passionate about Physics and will never change. At first, I wasn't sure about being a physics major, but he's sparked it and I'm looking forward to having him again junior year.
Funny when he's mad
With out a doubt he is the best physics tacher at ech, unless you visithis office hours then he is kind of a jerk
He's a passionate professor which crates a nice learning environment. Tests usually have about 5 or 6 tricky questions that you really have to think about. Study all previous tests and know them. Weekly homework on the internet can be tricky. Reading quiz almost every class period. If you need help go to the physics learning center, not his office
GREATEST PROF EVER
Excellent professor. Funny in class but has zero social skills outside of it. Can be abrupt in office hours but if you are to the point and don't ask questions that you could answer yourself by reading the book, he's very helpful.
He enjoys teaching. And is very approachable during office hours.
Haven't met the theatrical physics buff with a meter stick for an arm? Well this is where you get to! Knows his stuff, but severely lacking on people skills. Go to learning center.
Bad teacher. Explains only the simplest things that most of the class has figured out before he explained it. Tests are out of nowhere, and don't follow mastering physics or assigned questions closely at all. Good luck!
He is a great teacher, funny in class and he really loves physics. You have to read the textbook and go to class. he is very approachable and a nice guy. Just think about questions before you ask him. He has no problem clearing up difficult concepts, but he does not have any patience for questions that can be answered with a book or in class.
Overexplains everything. Other than that he's a fine teacher.
If you do the assigned reading and go to class regularly you should do fine. He explains everything very clearly and has exam review sessions before each exam..they are very helpful!
Hard to learn
I thought he was an awesome teacher, the class is structured very well so you always know what's going on and he explains everything very well. Definitely stay in his class. One of my favorite teachers.
Great teacher for a such a large lecture. He really cares how much you comprehend and that makes it easy to understand. His exams are straight forward multiple choice. One of the better large lecture professors I've ever had.
A "perfect" professor, as in he does everything a professor should do. After writing something on the board, he steps way off to the side so that everyone can see it. If someone asks a question, he repeats it into the microphone so everyone can hear it. He replies to every email. Thanks for a good semester.
He is an excellent teacher. He goes through demonstrations and explains every step for problems. He hosts an exam review session before every exam where he goes over exams from previous years. He may be the best teacher I've had just because of his clarity and helpfulness.
Dr. Weidman is an excellent teacher. He is funny and explains every problem in perfect detail. Lectures are engaging, and exams are appropriately challenging.
Dr. Wiedman has taken my interest in electrical topics (I am an EE) and made the class so boring and difficult that I no longer care. He doesn't explain things well, and his tests are pretty different from the practice exams.
He teaches everything really well and clearly enjoys the subject. The demonstrations are also a plus.
Very in depth. Writing is sometimes sloppy and hard to follow
The deomstrations are fairly interesting and the problems he goes over in class directly relate to your homework and exams. He also supplies you with multiple practice exam for the test. The hardest part of this class is the conceptual questions because the wording will get you. No formulas need to be memorized, he gives you a sheet :)
I always had the feeling that he thought he was the best professor at the university and it was his way, or the highway. He seems to run hot and cold on the helpfulness, which is never great.
If you are an EE, you will be highly disappointed with how he approaches our topics. Be prepared for death by powerpoint. Demonstrations are interesting. Mastering physics questions are NOTHING like what the exams are. You're better off teaching yourself from the book and the past exams than learning from him.
As long as you show up to class and can use an equation sheet this a very easy class. Although I do not like the use of Mastering Physics, it is an easy grade booster. In addition, his humor, although rarely shown, can make showing up worthwhile
Go to class, pay attention, and take all the practice tests and you'll be fine.
Dr. Weidman uses the iClickers for attendance via participation questions during class. He offers multiple ways for help through extra credit on the online homework and review sessions for the midterms. Make sure you take notes in the class and take practice exams and you will do OK.
Weidman is a pretty standard professor. Not very lively, but teaches everything crystal clear (he talks like he has a script!). Also, he doesn't trick you on exams, meaning if your answer matches one of the MP choices, you're correct. Would recommend
Can be dry at times, but very enthusiastic about the material. Is very fair on the exams, and doesn't try to trick you. Worthwhile to read the book for the class.
If I didn't get points for attendance, I wouldn't go to class because it is pointless. Reading the book is huge because there are reading questions at the beginning of each class that are worth a lot of points and he pulls the "Stop and Think" questions for exams. The practice exams do not prepare you for the actual exams.
If you get one of his in class questions wrong, be prepared to be bashed. Very awkward to go and see for help. A little over excited for some of the material.
Over enthusiastic- compared Newton to Jesus. Knows his stuff, though.
Weidman, AKA Batman, is the best physics teacher in the school. If you go to his lectures you will pass because you learn the material. If you don't go to class, well, good luck.
While he does a great job of explaining the course material as well and gives do-able exams, his personality leaves something to be desired. His blatant arrogance and lack of faith in the classes abilities will guarantee a lack of excitement in attending class but will leave you with a bit more breathing room in your gpa.
Very clear and incredibly enthusiastic Professor. His class is a little harder than other professors, but he makes sure you learn the material. He doesn't try to trick students on exams like many other Professors. Overall, he is a phenomenal Professor that has been doing this for a long time.
Dr. Weidman presents physics in a fantastically simple and straightforward way, emphasizing important points throughout. Visuals are well-done and usually involve motion setups on carts that add a great deal to the presentation. His tests are equally straightforward, and he makes a point not to intentionally confuse or trick students.
Putting in the effort is the challenging part. He is enthusiastic about physics and wants students to succeed. Also, he has a lot of fun with powerpoint.
Prof. Weidman is one of the best lecturers I've had at university. He really has an enthusiasm for the material that translates into his presentations, making learning the material a snap. If you do the reading, pay attention in lecture, and do lots of homework, it's a breeze. Attendance is required to get full credit, due to iClicker quizzes.
Love this guy. He clearly loves what he is doing. Makes learning a tough subject fun.
Does not trick students, gives students exams from past 3 years to study from.
Dr. Weidman is a great professor, but Physics is a tough subject. Especially if you didnt have previous experience with it. Wanna pass? Do the reading. Do the MasteringPhysics. Do practice problems/past exams. Go to class. He purposely designs exams so only top students can do well. But he doesn't ask many trick questions.
Dr. Weidman is one of the best lecturers at Tech. Uses iClickers to gauge class performance and get you thinking. Occasionally he'll say or do something hilarious as well. Clearly explains the material and his expectations. Don't skip a lot, theres a one q reading quiz every lecture and participation pts for the iclicker qs, those add up quickly.
Weidman is a tough but fair grader who explains complex principles as concisely as possible. Ultimately he deals with huge lecture classes and is not directly able to provide much help, so he encourages use of other resources such as TAs and the physics learning center. Overall a solid professor for such a large class.
Dr. Weidman is a good choice for PH2100. He has entertaining powerpoint lectures and is clearly obsessed with physics. That being said, physics is tough, so be prepared to put in the hours if you want a good grade.
Weidman is hilarious and kind. He genuinely cares about helping us to understand the material. He gives review sessions on the exam from the previous semester, and has office hours for extra questions you have. You do have to come to class, because there are iClicker questions every day, but you have 3 absences to use.
Very tough class and lecture material easier than exams
Physics 2200 is all about electricity and magnetism which I found much harder than 2100. Do all of the readings, practice exams, and Mastering Physics problems as this is the best way to prepare for the exams. I never really went to his office hours, but the Physics Learning center was extremely helpful for this course.
Weidman definitely has the most entertaining lectures I've had at MTU so far. Physics 2 is significantly harder than Physics 1, but Weidman makes it understandable and enjoyable.
He has a VERY strict attendance policy where he does a reading quiz which is supposed to take place at the start of each class, but he always winds up doing it about a minute before class is actually supposed to start, meaning that if your miss it because you have a class all the way across campus and make it in time, you'll still get a zero.
Dr. Weidman is probably the best physics prof MTU has. He makes physics easy to understand. He tries to make the class enjoyable and he has some funny moments. Shows lots of fun demos, about one class a week is problem solving sessions where he does related homework problems. Overall Weidman is a great prof and would recommend taking his class.
Very good instructor, his lectures are exciting and I really liked the live demonstrations in class: (rocket trike, hover pad, the monkey and the hunter cannon demo).
Very good professor!
I bombed this class because I didn't put in the effort with the homework assignments, but Dr. Weidman is a great lecturer. He's been doing this for a LONG time and he knows what he's doing. He even makes jokes sometimes. He was always really nice whenever I'd see him outside of class. As long as you don't sleep during lecture, you'll at least pass.
His lectures are so meticulously crafted and the way that he explains things is so precise. He knows what he's talking about, and makes sure that you do too.
A professor who really knows his stuff and makes sure you do too. Classes are very participatory and there's a decent amount of homework but overall it's not too bad
Professor Weidman's lectures are very clear and he wastes very little time. Even in the new remote format due to COVID, he still tries his best to engage all students. Homework is decently heavy and many questions are quite challenging, but they count a lot less for your grade than the tests, which are much more straightforward with no tricks.
Dr. Weidman is an awesome professor. He really knows what he is teaching us and he cares that we understand it. Even in online classes due to COVID his lectures are very informative and organized. He wastes no time and you can tell he puts a lot of effort into each lecture. Always super willing to help students and answer questions.
He's a fine professor and definitely knows what he's talking about, but the lectures to me are extremely boring. He doesn't interact with students or the chat during the Zoom lectures so that plays a big factor in the dull-ness of these lectures. Still a solid prof and is an interesting man to listen to
He's a great teacher who cares about his student's success. His lectures are great and he knows how to deliver information so that you remember the material. There is no clearer grading like this class, you know what to do and when to do it. If you go to every lecture and do the HW the class is an easy A.
The homework is very difficult and you can't get all of the credit for it without being correct the first time. The exam you will take is nothing like the practice exam questions and most people fail the exams. I would highly advise against taking this prof as well as maybe taking physics at a different college to attain the credit required.
Really passionate about teaching and is very willing to help outside of class. The lectures are well thought out and have a good focus on everything. I suggest even just skimming the book before lectures but it's not really necessary. He posts past exams that I highly recommend utilizing.
A very difficult professor but he really knows his stuff and is a fantastic teacher. If you pass the class it is because you know the information, not because you were able to skate by with Chegg.
Professor Weidman is a great Professor. He gives amazing lectures and demonstrations and takes time to explain examples that he sees the class is not understanding. Exams are difficult, but homework and iClicker quizzes are easy ways to make up grades. There is also extra credit homework. Study hard and utilize physics learning center.
Dr. Weidman is a great professor. The class is setup well so that you are able to get a good grade if you do the reading and pay attention in class. Starting early on the homework is a good idea as well. The class is hard if you don't pay attention, but iClicker keeps the class interactive so you don't get too bored.
