Screw HBO, this is intelligent Stand up comedy!
I think it is the first time i actually want to go to class...
Lectures are CONFUSING, but go to him for help and he'll explain it perfectly.

This man makes class so enjoyable. He is animated, well-spoken, and all-in-all an incredible professor. Best professor I've had yet.
The best professor I have ever had. Incredibly interesting and extremely funny. Do anything you can to get into his class

Very funny professor. You'll never fall asleep in his class. His lecture notes are helpful for mid-terms and finals
Crazy funny! Makes the class so much more bearable! I really had no care for Socrates until Wexelblatt started talking about him. I'll rate again after the first exam! :)
I had "Wexy" back in '75-'76...He was a great Proff then I am sure he still is...
PROF WEX IS THE MAN!1 i only had him for a few weeks now, but i already know this is gonna be an amazing year with him! he just knows somuch about everything, and he actually makes philosophy not only interesting enough to sit through, but actually funny
My favorite teacher of the entire university, so funny!
it's only halfway through the semester but i couldn't resist voting for prof. wex because he is just THAT awesome...he knows his sh*t and will go through the material w/ u until u know it too
Professor Wexelblatt is great! He takes a subject that is known for its complex and abstract qualities and makes sense of it all. In addition, he actually takes philosophy further to make it interesting and humorous. I have had a great time in his class.
very very very very fair guy. stay on top and work hard and you will get not only an a but a good friend too
Good teacher but find his penchant for Timberlands somewhat amusing.
Wex is just awesome- even if you dislike the course, you will love him and that will just give you all the more reason to go to class. He's one of those professors you hope to meet in college- as long as you are honest and you work hard you will b fine
One of the few who surpass professor and become "friend." The class is hard, but pay attention and he makes sense of it all. His humor brings forth intelligence and his style (tweed jacket, freshly cuffed pants) brings forth professionalism. A t
Wex is such a character: he's intelligent, skinny, sociable, hilarious, almost childish at times yet utterly sophisticated, and kind. sometimes his lectures get too philosophical and comfusing, but if u read and go to class, u'll b fine.
Wex is the best prof. he's the type of prof you will remember well into your 30's and has a great impact on you. dont think it'll be easy, he expects a lot from you but he's good. no doubt the best
Explains complicated materials by relating to everyday subject matters. He clearly loves to talk cause there isn't that much discussion going on in the class. Very intelligent and amusing professor you'll never forget!!
He's awesome. Very smart and a terrific professor.
I love Wex-- everybody loves Wex, you will too. Another prof named his kid after Wex. His humor and intelligence is both astounding and refreshing. Metcalf award winner AND super nice guy.
I had Wex in '75...I can't beleive he is still there. He was an awsome professor...Truly memorable even after all this time...I glad he hasn't lost a step
W-E-X-E-L-B-L-A-T-T! his name says it all, he's such a character. so witty, intelligent, kind, and he's truly a genius!
I had Wex back in 1994. He was probably the best teacher I could have had at CGS (also Schoch). Wex was truly a friend and someone you look back at years later saying "why aren't all teachers like him?"
A very witty and intelligent professor with a lot of stories to tell such as "What really is Victoria's secret?" One of the best professor I ever had at BU.
This guy is great. I was there in 99. He knows his combover.
He's an awesome guy. Whenever you have papers, email him incessantly, he will definitely help you get a good grade by doing so. He's a little crazy, but it makes the class fun. Wex makes boring material interesting. Probably one of the only classes I've truly enjoyed so far at BU. Bravo!! :)
The best professor I've had at BU so far. He could make anything interesting, but better yet, he even picks interesting topics. A MUST take if you get to pick.
Wex is, by far, the finest professor i have ever encountered. in all seriousness, I want to adopt him. the thought of starting junior year without his brilliant wisdom is disheartening.
Wex is a crazy mofo. He's a genius and he knows it. He makes ridiculous jokes and looks like a giant stork. If you show up and pay attention you're golden.
Wexelblatt is such a great professor. Everything he says is covered in sarcasm but he presents course material in an interesting way for students. Don't ask him to perform weddings.
Every once in awhile you will encounter a professor who goes above and beyond the call of teaching. Wex is not only deeply passionate about his subject but does an excellent job of infusing that into his students. Simply put, this man was born to teach! Switch CGS teams if you have to!
Wex is a good guy, but the topics he teaches are complex--at least they were to me! He is very interesting to talk to!
Wex is one of the grestest teachers I've ever had. He teaches complex ideas, but he teaches them well. He could make anyone understand Plato, but as soon as I started studying for finals, everything got confusing. His more than willing to help with anything at just about any time. She's such a great teacher, I wanted to do well and impress him.
Consistently overrated. Yes, he's funny. Yes he's nice. But he has absolutely no compassion whatsoever. He's a strict grader; if you don't write exactly what he said, you don't get the points. It's time for him to get off of his high horse and retire. He exudes an aura of arrogance everytime he walks into a classroom. He's nothing special anymore.
Arrogant?Harsh? Maybe, but remember, and this is true for all professors, his arrogance is earned by his outstanding ability and knowledge.I did well grade-wise, yet still regularly wound up the prey of his wit.Still couldn't get enough of the man. Those who can't usually project their hard feelings on silly attacks on his character. Witness below.
I like him. Very funny. Great classes.
To call Wex overrated is to do him a great injustice. He is rated highly because he deserves it. Wexelblatt easily ranks among the best professors I have ever had the pleasure of having. You will be hard pressed to find a wittier, funnier professor who is more passionate about his material and knowledge at BU. Consider yourself lucky if you get him
hard grader. pay attention to your papers and tests can be tricky. he will overexplain anything for you if you go talk to him or email him. he knows so much you just want to listen and learn even if you dont care about the material. you have to work tho; not hard to get a B.
Very intellectual. Very nice teacher, and interesting so pay attention!
One of the best teachers I've ever had; a true inspiration for the teaching profession. His teaching style is nearly theatrical, he's dynamic, animated and completely engrossing. Consider yourself lucky if you have his class.
Professor Wexelblatt is brilliant... so brilliant in fact that if you are not 100% interested in what he is teaching or quick to learn, it is very easy to get lost. He's a very interesting teacher, but you have to play the game with him aka make sure you "agree" with his opinions and points of view on your papers and ESPECIALLY capstone
Thank your lucky stars if you get Wex! He's easily by far the BEST professor I've ever had and will have in my life. He's brilliant, funny, and has the ability to make an often dry subject come to life. He's a bit tough on grading, but if you read assignments and pay attention, it's not an issue. I still grieve that I won't be in his class again.
Awesome professor. Def. one of the best I've had at BU so far. He is very interesting & funny. He's probably the most intelligent professor I've had so far & the most caring, too. You're lucky if you have Wex as a professor.
I absolutely love this man! He is a wonderful professor and very funny in class. Important: pay attention to his lectures and discussions b/c that where the most of exam material comes from. He was the shining light my sophomore semester and he really loves his students and is very helpful!
I absolutely love this man! He is a wonderful professor and very funny in class. Important: pay attention to his lectures and discussions b/c that where the most of exam material comes from. He was the shining light my sophomore semester and he really loves his students and is very helpful!
quite possibly the most brilliant man at BU. Great teacher, funny, knows his stuff, can relate to students on all levels, a shinning star in the cloudy and questionable CGS faculty
Lectures are thoroughly garbled because there is so much unnecessary info. He has a leg-shaking problem. He is too smart to be teaching such a class, but he is tenured which is good if you need recommendations for transfer. The man is brilliant but a tough TOUGH grader. You can never really understand everything.
what can i say, i love the man. sure, he's a philosophy teacher so he's going to come off a little pompous to those who don't like him. but he's a genius and explains even the most abstract concepts in easy terms(and often hilarious ones too). He is the only reason i'm glad to be in CGS..maybe even at BU. GET ON HIS TEAM< TAKE HIS CLASS.
I don't understand where all these 'hard grader' comments come from. Sure, you can't slack, but if you pay attention to his lectures (not hard to do, he's funny) you're gold. Usually I only skim the texts and I still breezed through. Brilliant man, a real character - I wish every philosophy teacher is like him. Alas.
Professor Wexelblatt is by far the best professor I have ever had, to this day. I fondly remember watching him pace the floor speaking in the manner of his favorite writers, communicating with perfect form the most difficult philosophical concepts. Had all my professors been like him, there is no doubt I would have been in heaven.
not clear at all. he is too smart to be teaching students who don't know as much as he does. extremely difficult grader and you can never fully understand everything. writes rude comments on tests.
Favors certain students over others. His calrity is very minimal and he doesn't seem to care if someone doesn't really understand something-- he has one approach to teaching things and if you don't get it, tough luck, on to the next unit. If you go talk to him after class he likes you more/might help your grade.
Prof. Wex is the best! The course material wasn't my favorite but he manages to keep things interesting. Funny, genuine, and all together a great person, he is helpful to talk to and when asking for help on papers. Also, he isn't an easy grader in the least; he really makes you think and work for you A on exams and papers.
The funniest and most interesting one ever!!!!!
Wex is a great teacher. He provides a few too many examples, but they're interesting to listen too. He is a HARD grader. VERY HARD. But, you can tell he spends a ton of time grading because there are always pages of comments. You can't help but love him because he is so nice and cares a lot about the character of his students.
The man actually knows everything about everything: current events, pop culture, history, you name it. He cares about his students, wants to help them, but you need to put effort in also. Smartest person I know.
My favorite philosophy professor at bu! He's a brilliant and kind man.
Massive legend
Best professor I have ever had. Literally.
Possibly the best professor I've had. His lectures are always clear and engaging, and he connects concepts well. Makes an effort to connect with students personally and make philosophical ideas seem relevant to life.
MY FAVORITE PROFESSOR AT BU!! sweetest man, takes personal interest in all his students, makes philosophy so intriguing, and has fair tests. Study his lecture notes and you'll get an A!
He is the most intelligent and caring professor I have ever had. I would go to class to just listen to him talk. Wex will change your life.
Truthfully, Wexelblatt is nothing short of the best professor I have ever had in my life. The way he can jump from one example and subject to the next, all tying it together in meaningful clear ways is insane. I cannot recommend enough, coming to class was actually a delight.
Wexelblatt is quirky, entertaining, and a good professor. He does a good job of explaining a very obscure subject. Ethics is not for everyone, so it is sometimes difficult to fully grasp the content of his lectures, but, so far, I have never found myself bored in any of his classes.
To be completely honest, I rarely attended lectures or discussions for this class. Having said that, I now really regret doing so. Wex is a really cool guy, and he's always willing to go the extra mile for his students. He grades very fairly and has great anecdotes to fill time in discussion. If he sees that you're having trouble, he'll help you.
Wexelblatt is an amazing professor. His discussions are so interesting because he tells funny stories that relate to what we are learning, and this makes concepts easier to grasp! He is a very hard grader but at the same time it is hard to do poorly in his class because he's such a great teacher.
Professor Wexelblatt lays out material that you wouldn't expect to be clear cut (it is a philosophy class...), in a very concise way. Make sure you raise your hand if you want to get a word in, because he'll keep talking if no one participates! Attendance isn't mandatory, but I found myself honestly looking forward to class every time.
LOVE Wex!! He is brilliant. Pros: Writes TONS of feedback on your essays/tests. Always there for you and really cares about each student. Is engaging and funny. Uses a lot of analogies. Passionate about the subject. Prints out study guides for lectures. Cons: You need to make the effort to reach out to him. Each class is like a lecture. Wex rocks.
Best professor I've had. He is incredibly helpful and treats his students equally and with respect. He gives amazing and easy to understand examples for what can be otherwise rather difficult topics.
Out of the 30 plus professors that I've had in my career at BU, I had two that actually inspired me. Prof Wexelblatt was one of those 2.
Professor Wexellblatt is the best professor that I have ever had in BU. He has amazing lectures, gives students lecture notes, the reading is a bit dense, but as soon as you go to class/lecture everything becomes clear! He is very respectful to his students and has a great sense of humor. He is a phenomenal teacher! Take his class!!!
One of the best professors I've had at BU. He really tries to help everyone succeed. Remembers everyone's faces well, so show up to class and he may even boost your grade (he did for me). He hands out lecture notes before hand, so you can take additional notes. Very accessible outside of class and is the most friendliest and helpful person.
Professor Wexelblatt is the best CGS professor! He genuinely cares about his students and is willing to help out as much as he can. He hands out notes for his lectures and also posts them online. He is a fair grader and his assignments and tests are totally doable if you read and pay attention in class. Highly recommend!
Put simply, Wexelblatt is an amazing lecturer. Never have I been so engrossed in 50 minutes of a man talking about philosophy - his interpretations of key philosophical ideas have proven pervasive in my mind, keeping me up at night. The class (HU202) has definitely changed the way I think, and I believe it is the peak of your CGS education. Leap!
He doesn't have lecture slides and there are only 4 things that matter in his class (2 tests, 2 essays). Attendance for his class isn't mandatory and he does not really enforce his class. However, Wex is a very knowledgable man and cares a lot about seeing his students succeed. I just wish I understood Aristotle as well as he did.
I took Wex because of his good ratings on here. He is not the most interesting, but he makes an effort to be kind of raunchy in lectures to get you to pay attention. There are no lecture slides so you must pay attention in class. If have a hard time understanding philosophy, this class will likely be challenging for you.
Genuinely enjoyable to be around for both lecture and discussion (which is rare). As long as you show up to every class and write down what he says, an A is 100% doable. Exams are made up exclusively of what he discusses in lecture and discussion (no curveballs).
Life-changing.
If you have no interest in Philosophy, this course will be extremely boring and difficult. Wexelblatt is very passionate and knowledgeable on Philosophy, but his lectures are dull and disorganized. Lots of readings and there are only four components that will determine your grade.
One of the best professors Ive ever had. You will definitely need to attend lectures and discussions to pass this class because there are no notes or slides. Everything is based on what he says in class. He doesnt teach very traditionally, he just talks to you causally which made him easy to follow even if you dont like philosophy.
To be honest I do not enjoy philosophy that much so I did not thoroughly enjoy the course. I would consider him a pretty hard grader and would recommend paying attention in class. He's definitely trying to be engaging in class and if you enjoy philosophy you'll like him
Professor Wexelblatt is the worst Professor I've ever had. To put it plainly, his lectures and discussions are so overwhelmingly boring and there's no participation. I enjoy group and class discussions but in this class he just talks on and on about stories no one knows if they are true or not. There's 4 grades that determine you're final grade.
Material is pretty boring if youre not interested in philosophy but wex is one of the best professors Ive ever had. Hes really caring and accessible and will talk to you if you reach out for help
Went into this class interested be I like philosophy, but as time went on, the disconnect between the students and the prof got bigger. I disliked going to lectures and discussions because it was just prof lecturing and telling stories. The discussions consisted of no discussions, no voices from the students, no input. we could not share our input.
Class consisted of 4 grades! 2 papers, midterm, final. If you did bad on one of them or more, you will not get a good grade in his class & no participation or assignments in this class. He grades for what he would answer: his answer is the right answer. His view on philosophers is the only view - he does not like student's input or views
He says some out of pocket things and plays it off as jokes when in reality it's not funny. Every class i'd just sit there and would kinda be shocked at some things he said. Respectfully, professor needs a reality check and needs to know he cannot say all the things he says
The grading is straightforward, 4 assignments each worth 25% of your grade where as long as you pay attention in lecture it's near impossible to get below a B on any of them. He's a great lecturer, super understanding of students having other work and has 2 due dates for each paper. His stories are entertaining and will miss him next semester.
He's awful. Taught Kierkegaard first time this semester and was given an essay. Students were left clueless in key ideas taught and wrote emails to ask him. He was annoyed bc of our "lack of understanding" when he couldn't teach the material. Students got rude and sassy replies regards to essay topic. Talks in a way that is hard
Very harsh grader, class material is hard to understand
4 *25% grade, you mass up one you lose all
Tough grader
really enjoy his class
He is a cool Professor. Always response your email fast!
I really enjoy his class, interesting!
He needs to retire
One of the most discouraging educators I've ever had. Exams are not meant to test actual learning. An exam could be made of 4 questions and he will mark an entire one wrong if a small detail is off/won't give partial credit. Discussions were useless. Essays were fine.
Professor Wexelblatt is very knowledgable. He is engaging and very caring. Sometimes his lectures can be hard to follow but he uploads notes that are very helpful.
Professor Wexelblatt is a nice guy but his lectures and discussions are super long and dry, and if you messed up one single question on the tests you will get very poor scores. Only choose him when you don't have any other choices.
Prof. Wex is the best. Overall fulfilling course with great reading selections. Went into his class with no interest in philosophy and ethics, and now I love it. Really good feedback on essays. This prof practically created the CGS capstone - GO TO HIM FOR HELP. He is an amazing resource.
Awful! Avoid at all costs. Doesn't offer extra credits. Tough grader like he will roast you until you want to kill yourself. Talks quietly in class and often goes away from lecture material to talk about himself. Mannnn he loves talking about himself. If you go to his office hours, he will not help you but instead talk about himself again.
For people looking for their CGS Humanities professor, DO NOT TAKE PROFESSOR WEXELBLATT. He is the toughest grader I have ever had, he does not do any extra credit, and he picks favorites and gives them better grades. This class is not an automatic pass or an easy A. He is very rude in emails, as well. Stay away.
Tough grader, not understanding of personal circumstances, speaks softly and rambles a lot, rude and unprofessional
Good professor, but has wierd grading system. Only four grades: midterm, two essays, and final exam. Mess up one you mess up everything. But available on email, and helpful through email.
Professor Wexelblatt was interesting. His grading criteria was confusing and he did not connect classes together very well or make his classes easy to follow. It id definitely not the worst class, but frustrating. Overall team Y is good for capstone (super nice) so I would take him for that but I did not enjoy the class.
The lectures are a bore, no class slides, the class is graded on 4 things, 25% each. He is a really tough and criticizing grader for the essays, you can never get a good grade. Brutal grader and the tests and essays are not the easiest.
do not take this professor, i don't know how he is rated so high he is so critical on grading and the entire course is made up of 2 essays and 2 exams / plus the lectures and discussions are a bore it is so hard to pay attention, the only good thing is that he is nice, but I would advise to take any other humanities professor
don't do it
Likes to talk a lot. Grading criteria for essays unclear. Not hard to get by without doing reading & going to class. Seems to care about students and getting to know them before/after class. Content of course is uninteresting but he tries his best to make it engaging.
Professor Wexelblatt is a gift to CGS, and BU. During covid he would email me frequently to checkin and make sure I was doing alright. Even though I took his course as a sophomore (4 years ago), he is still my all time favorite professor. I still remember his course and how interesting it was. Count yourself lucky if you get him as your prof.
Had to spend my sophomore year listening to his dry, rambling lectures he delivered seated behind the table. My freshman HU professor was amazing so I was anticipating a second year of study but was sorely disappointed. I honestly wish I could go back in time and somehow avoid taking HU 201/202 with him. It was an awful experience.
Professor Wexelblatt was very boring and went over class time almost every class. His midterm exam was very difficult for me, but the papers went well. He was completely brutal towards me about struggling with the midterm. He was very confusing to learn from and I'd say taken anyone but him.
He's nice, but the only reason he teaches is for his own entertainment. While ranting, he randomly throws in something relevant, because he forgot he needs to be teaching a class. It's extremely hard to figure out what you need to know because of his personal stories and barely put together "notes". He also only grades off of 2 essays and 2 tests.
Wexelblatt is the one of the creators of capstone and as such he is an extremely hard grader when it comes to capstone. I would not recommend being on whatever team he teaches in during your capstone semester unless you want to take a GPA dive.
i loved wex!! super sweet and caring, even past the class. his exams are super easy if you just study the concepts, you don't even need to do the readings. essays aren't bad, and if u get on his good side i think it's easier to do better. not a bad class and such a sweet funny guy (topics can be a bit boring, and lectures can drag but its history)
Professor Wexelblatt has a unique teaching style, but with some effort, the class can be quite engaging. unstuck ai was a lifesaver for exam prep. Take this class if you're up for a challenge.
Go to his office hours and build a personal connection with him! It will really help you do better in class in general. He does ramble about things but try to stay focused and take notes during discussion because he likes it when you write about what he said in your test or essay. Test questions are straight forward, but there's a lot to memorize.
literally just go to office hours and try hard on the essays because the exams are easy. make sure u do good on every assignment/exam or you wont get a good grade because theyre all weighted heavy.
Genuinely one of my favorite professors I have taken a class with. A caring, honest, hilarious professor who makes his students' well being a priority. I found the content super interesting, and the way he lectures is engaging and reflects his enthusiasm for the material. Such a phenomenal professor and I wish I could take more classes with him.
He's a bad man
Wexelblatt is incredibly odd. He pretends to really care, but when you ask questions, his explanations make it substantially more confusing. Additionally, the readings take upwards of a couple hours each. He's a CGS purist with little to no regard that his course is a hub. Also makes tests wildly difficult and does not assess partial credit.
