Funny as anything!
Hard class, but he's a funny guy
funny teacher, must study for classes though
makes PChem understandable, and you won't get finagled
No Comments
definately the nutty professor!!
aced his class with very little effort. just show up and pay attention
oh, stop your whining, if you'd come to class and pay attention you'd be passing
Very tough but very good. Word hard and you'll be fine.
refreshingly nutty which lightens the subject matter
8am classes are just bad in themselves
just take notes youll do ok on quizzes, nice big class to help you
He's very helpful.
very easy, quizzes are right from notes, final questions given to u
great prof. fun class even for an 8am.

Very unhelpful and very hard is an under statement
horrible.goes out of his way to be unhelpful in labs.refuses to help, rather tells you to read the textbook (which he doesnt even understand).
easy a...questions are given to you. learned how tomake beer and wine. blows stuff up
One of the worst. He wants to impress students with his knowledge instead of teaching them. Impress me by teaching me chemistry.
He does not teach, he talks, he goes through information so fast that you have no idea whats going on. His quizzes suck, and the book sucks too. Take someone else.
Worst teacher ever. Should be called history of chem since he rambles about great dead chemists
Nice guy, but horrible teacher. Faces the board and mumbles the whole time and yells at the class for asking questions about something he never taught. Questions incredibly hard for a beginner class!!!
poor teacher. likes to talk about semi related topics that you will never actually need to know for the class. do not take if possible.
easiest chem class ever...he makes his tests out of more points than are possible so even if you get some wrong, you can still get over 100% on them...if you pay attention and work a little, you can get an easy A, even I have a 99 percent right now!
Way too hard of a class for the most introductory chem class you can take. He puts notes on the board, but then the quiz questions are really confusing and hard
doesnt do anything in labs, hardly ever helps or even explains what you need to do for the lab reports. Expects that the students should know everything in chem without any help. Avoid this guy at all costs
Hardest class ever! He should not teach at this level...avoid him!!!! He knows his stuff, but it's so not worth it!
This class is too hard. He talks about nothing which makes the class run over. He has quizzes every week and they are fill in the blank. Very hard class.
His tests are hard, but he gives you a lot of opportunity to make up for it with all of the bonus that he gives. Compared to other chem classes the content covered is MUCH easier.
Class was easy....he is really boring and has a horrible attendence policy, essentially you have to bring the corpse with you to prove you went to a funeral.
This class is easy. Don't read the book, it doesn't really help or hurt. Attend class to get all the notes for the weekly quizzes which are semi- hard, but he gives extra- credit. Easy A.
Soo easy, as long as you attend every class to get the notes. Do not buy the book. You do not need it. He has weekly quizzes that come straight from the notes.
Wasn't too bad. A little difficult.
i had him last semester and he does repeat a lot but you have to pay attention as well...it's a lot harder than i thought it would be but if you put the effort into it, you'll do ok.
tests everyother week- 25 mins per test and then take notes afterwards...ridiculous! Tests are semi-hard but mostly you just run short on time. his class notes are not very good...daily lecture quizes are okay if u do the book problems. avoid if possible.
This guy is the worst teacher ever!! He deserves fired on the spot. I wouldn't recommed this guy even if you knew what you were doing. To him you would still be wrong! WORST TEACHER EVER!!!!
A good guy, but very tough teacher. You'll learn a lot, but won't get good grades. He makes it as fun as chem can be.

He is ok. He does not like to talk when you go to his office hours though. You have to ask a lot of questions to get an idea of what you were confused about.
Worst teacher I've ever had!!!! you have a quiz every week and you get like 10mins to take it!! then he lectures the rest of the time and writes on the board. He says things that have no meaning to you at all! Don't take him!!!
This is was crazy. Does not explain things very well and the quizzess are tricky. This was a very stressful class, and he forgets that most of us dont want to be chem majors. Avoid this class if you can!!!!
This class is CRAZY hard!! I would not recommend this unless you are interested in chem major. He is very knowledgable, so he doesnt not explain simple things. He is very unclear, and has quizzes every week. He offers chem review sessions once a week before the quizzes.. GO TO THEM!!
Has a lot of passion for his subject. So much so that he forgets that you may not be a chemistry major. The 10 minute quizzes every week are tricky.
Absolutely the worst teacher ever. He Assumes that all students are chemistry majors. Does not teach clearly, and he is writing his own book which is absolutely hard to follow. Would not recomend to me worst enemy.
The worse teacher I ever had in my whole life. Judges people on left and right. Never helps and thinks that students suppose to know everything in the class. During summer session, he doesn't lectures at all. Please don't take if you want to leave longer.
He is a very nice guy and not that bad of a teacher. I think the people that conplain about him don't read the book. You have to read to book and spend time studying notes to pass this class! If you spend time working on the calss it's not too bad. The weekly quizzes weren't too bad either.
Guy wouldnt even let me make up a test with a note from the infirmary. He said our class wasnt doing well so he gave us a quiz everyday of class (literally). Dont take this guy.
He is a tough teacher, YOU NEED TO GO TO EVERY CLASS! and also go to the review sessions, otherwise you will fail.
This guy has no teaching skills whatsoever I felt like he forgot that we are not all geniuses like himself and the constant quizzes suck, do the notecards for extra credit it helps your grade alot,Would have failed if it weren't for the final- o and all his stuff is fill in the blank, drove me crazy
He can keep your attention in lecture if that means anything. Other than that, he's extremely hard. Expect graded homework everyday, quizzes, every week, exams that r impossible, but the worst aspect of this course is lab. Reprts are horrendous, he does not help in the least and gets upset if u ask him; all for 25-30% of the grade.
This class was by far my worst experience ever in college. The timed quizzes are rediculous, especially when they are on information you just learned 15 minutes prior to taking it. Biggest thing though, he has no compassion for anyone taking the class and judges you based on past experiences with students. And he blames students for everything.
Hardest test i've ever taken. He treats everyone as though they are Chem majors. He also must think that his class is the only one people take. He said he expected us to Study 2 hours 7 days a week + do home work. I took 4 other class besides his and barely got out of Che 111 with a C.
The class is very hard even harder then cem 110 or 111, he has no compastion and lacks teaching skills. aviods this teacher.
So hard, i never undestod what he said , i studied for hours and still recieved a 5/20 on multiply quizzez............the wihdrew becuse the class was so diffiuclt
He had a great personality, but his teaching methods weren't the best.
This class is very hard. You must be willing to go every time, take his notes, study, and go to him if you are having trouble. He is very very easy to get along with though, its just that he knows the material so well that it is hard for him to see it from a students point of view. He is an interesting character just be prepared to concentrate.
This class was insanely hard....if you get this professor....DROP THE CLASS!!!! I studied and studied and studied some more, and I was still failing the class...I had to withdraw to keep it from hurting my GPA....avoid at all costs!
I didn't understand his class one bit. His notes and thought process is completely all over the place, and he taught like Chem was everyone's major in a 101 course. Avoid this class at all costs. I aced Chem in high school but still had no clue what Wismer was talking about!
This class is a toss up. It really depends on how interested you are in chemistry. He's a good teacher and gives you copius amounts of notes. Just go to class and study for the quizzes and you'll be fine.
A lot of work but if you keep up and don't put things off until the last minute you'll be fine. The tests are a bit hard with only 25 minutes to do them in; once you get used to it it's not so bad. Encourages you to ask questions, one of the most approachable profs I've had.
ok if u are not good at chem then dont take this class! if u had any chem before and even AP chem and liked it take this class easy A! all of his quizzes are from the notes he gives and what he does in class, so go to class and if u dont understand something ask! he gives over 40pts extra credit, do it! he is entertaining and very lively.
uhg, kinda scatter-brained teaching style. also not very helpful when it comes to finding tutors and such. I had chem in hs and did fine. but this was just insane. maybe im just a chem tard. but this was a rough course for an intro class
He is pretty hard, but if you go to him he will be very helpful.
wismer is one of those crazy scientist type teachers. makes class humorous sometimes, but the notes he puts on the board are just so scattered and don't make much sense. quiz every week, fill in the blank. pulls questions out of his ass, completely random. studying helps a little bit, pay attention in class. extra credit helps a lot.
He gives timed tests, which are hard enough to begin with, and nomenclature quizzes every week. His notes are very hard to understand and he doesn't do a very good job of explaining them. He is somewhat funny at times, though, but his class can be hard.
Don't take chem 111 with him. He is a terrible teacher. He will only do 2-3 example problems per class, but then expect you to do 8-10 purposely ambiguous questions in 25 minutes for the test. I definately think he had some psychological problems where he needs to prove to everyone that he is smarter than the students...but he is an idiot.
His notes are very jumbled and goes all over the place. You cannot understand them. The tests are really hard and they are timed (25-30 min)....you will not have enough time to finish it! DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.....you will REGRET it! Most of my class failed all the tests and are going to drop out. There are better chemistry teachers...choose them!
I HATED him at first, I wanted to ring his neck. But you need to figure out what he is going to test you on. For a hint the entire class is based on math equations and that's what he tests you on. Rush as much as you can on the tests. Definitely commit everything to memory. Work hard and stay ontop of the homework and studying and you'll be fine.
I wasn't looking forward to taking this class, especially after i read all his negative reviews... but, i've got to say, i really like him and the class. it's hard, but we do cool experiments so i'd recommend it
I had him for Chem101 too and he's an amazing professor, definitely one of the best I've had so far at Millersville. He's more than willing to help outside of class, very knowledgable. Just show up and do the work and it's an easy A. He gives quizzes every other class and they're relatively simple and he offers a lot of extra credit.
This is the worst professor I've had through out my college experience. Puts stuff on quizzes that he did not teach. Efforts do not count in this class. Bad professor, bad scientist. When he does experiments they don't work for him then he expects you to know how to do and how to answer the questions on the quiz. PLEASE think twice about this prof.
Oh my gosh is he hard. You have to memorize everything. Yes, the tests are hard. He has this philosophy of not really teaching. He is there to answer questions but goes off on tangents repeatedly. If you mess up setting up a problem for a test, you don't have time to redo it. Tests have about 5 questions which makes it hard if you mess it up.
I definitely should have dropped within the first week. His notes are basically scattered everywhere and you cant organize them very well. His "self-written" book was not helpful at all. If you miss a quiz and need to make one up- he tests you on random stuff that has nothing to do with what you had just learned . DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Anyone who likes him did not have him for chem 111 or 112... I had him for chem 111 my first semester at college and I was scared out of my mind by this man. Tests are nearly impossible for most people. there are a select few who somehow just get him and end up getting and A in his class, but most just fail... That being said, still a great guy.
I recommend avoiding this guy, especially if science is not your thing. Lectures are painful to sit through and presents the information poorly. Difficult fill-in-the-blank quizzes are given every other class, and likes to include random questions that have little to do with the subject. The only positive is, lots of extra credit points are offered (the only thing saving me this semester)
Too smart to teach an intro level course. Brilliant man, terrible at teaching the basics. Tests can be ambiguous. Always hands things back the next class. Helpful during recitation. Always goes over homework. Not a bad man, just too smart to teach easy things. Makes it more complicated than it needs to be.
Im def not a good science student....and i never have been, but I did not find this class to be too impossible. If you do not do well on the quizzes you can still do well in the class because the midterm and final are easy and theres lots of extra credit! Just make sure you read the syllabus!! Hes very strict about what it says there!
Only class I ever dropped. If you're an EDUC major and you care about your GPA, take a different science. Expects you to memorize dozens of chemical symbols each class... ridiculous
It makes him feel good when you dont know the answer to the questions.
Dr. Wismer explains things well and writes all the notes on the board. His demonstrations were fascinating and the lab component was fun! This is truly practical chemistry. He did a terrific job of applying chemistry to daily life. He tells interesting stories in class. I frankly find it hard to relate to all the negative comments about him.
Please avoid this class at all costs. The professor randomly jumps from topic to topic making it impossible to study for quizzes or remain engaged in the material. He is frusterating beyond all belief and will fail you. He does not curve and you need to attend every class!
Notes do not make sense. Very unclear and jumps around a lot. Quizzes are rediculously hard. I got tutoring and still almost failed.
One of the worst teachers i have ever come across. He finds it funny when you don't understand, and he enjoys showing you that you're wrong. His tests are impossible because no matter how much you understand the concepts the questions are about little details he might have mentioned once. His final, also fill in the blank.
The professsor is compeltely unfair. He gives no points for extra credict if he doens't like "how it sounds." His quizzes are extremely hard even with hours of studying and he pretty much smiles to himslef knowing how many people fair. Never have him! I have never met a man who wanted his students to do so badly and enjoy it.
At first I wasn't sure about him, but by about a month into the semester I loved Dr. Wismer. His tests are very difficult, but if you go over the practice test he gives you and make sure you really really know it, you can do well on the tests. He is very entertaining in lecture. Overall, he's very challenging, but a really good professor!
DR WISMER OWNS1!!!!!! HE OWNS!!!!
Wismer is a terrible professor, I review my high school notes before tests because the ones I take in his class are bad. He is really scatterbrained! Do not take his class if you are a chemistry major, like me, it will be a big mistake!
You have to learn it all from the book. He's always in the office. Recitation was amazing, fun, and useful, but lecture was off-topic and boring. NOTHING he says will be on the test ever is! If you have time to read the chem book a lot and do homework nightly, you WILL learn a lot. Otherwise, avoid him like the plague.
TERRIBLE! I got an A in 111 and inorganic, but a D+ in 112! Nothing in lecture is on hte test, he babbles about fertilizers and movies. DO NOT TAKE COURSE FROM HIM!! Wait and take it with someone else, he is the WORST PROF!!
Never had I need to drop a class no matter how hard the course or professor. But when I took Wismer, I still had to withdrew. I had two tutors, read the book and did all the questions in it, and it still wasn't enough to prepare me for his tests. To those who think of taking him please rethink and make sure you are fully prepare for this hurricane
Professor Wismer rocks! Interesting, entertaining, and everything he writes on the board is relevant. His lectures cover absolutely everything that is on the quiz. Skim the book, and review lecture notes; you'll be golden.
Yes, Dr. Wismer is an extremely hard prof, one of the hardest I've had here, but if you put in the appropriate amount of work you can get an A. Look at the practice tests he hands out, the tests are literally straight from there. He gives huge amounts of extra credit on the tests as well. I got over 100 on my last 4 tests.
Never again will I take a class from him. He doesn't care if you pass or fail. He is not helpful at all. In lecture, he talks about completely irrelevant topics, and his notes are scattered in organization (or lack of).
Dr. Wismer can be a little intimidating at first, but once you have him for a couple of weeks, he's awesome. His tests are really frequent and hard, but he gives partial credit for everything. He is always willing to help and really pushes you to do your best. Very nice guy!
Dr. Wismer expects a lot just like any other professor. If you work hard you will succeed! It is as simple as that.
If you are a super smart Chem major you may like him but for the average student he is way over the top. I would rather shoot myself in the face with a cross bow than take his class again. I asked for help and was told to "find a buddy" Don't we pay Millersville to teach us. When I dropped class there were 11 people left. How is that even allowed.
what can i say about dr wismer?.... HORRIBLE. AVOID TAKING HIM. He expects a lot, has a quiz every week, and wont help you if you need it. not to mention the stuff that he puts on the quizes are completely irrelevent. Just dont take him..
If your just looking for an easy gen-ed class, I wouldn't take this class. It's not too bad, but there is a quiz every other class period and if you don't study and take good notes, don't expect to do well. He offers a lot of extra credit though... not too bad if you're willing to put the effort in.
he's a very nice guy, knows his stuff and is enthusiastic about teaching. that being said, he can be very hard to follow during class, gets distracted easily and all the quizzes are based on notes in class. gives plenty of extra credit opportunities.
Chem100 can be very difficult, especially if you haven't had chem in a few years. He tries to explain things as best as he can, but it doesn't always seem clear. He always volunteers office hours and will help you if you go to him. He offers tons of extra credit, even though most people don't know it. (READ THE FIRST PAGE OF THE SYLLABUS)
What can be said that hasn't been already said? Exams are much harder than most other professors because he wants you to critically think. It also doesn't help that exams are timed only 30 min to take. Over half have dropped. Homework helps significantly. May throw temper tantrum if class doesn't study prior to recitation.
His quiz's were very confusing, oddly worded, and extremely specific
Dr. Wismer is a fabulous professor if you are taking CHEM 111, or CHEM 112 as a core class. Anything and everything you want to know about chemistry this man knows it! Tests ?s are very difficult if you don't study, but he gives you exact replicas of the test ?s 2 days before the test! How much easier could he honestly make it for you?
Very helpful during office hours. If you don't do the homework, you not pass the class, because his tests are hard. They are generally 30 minutes; although HE DOESN'T REQUIRE ANSWERS!!! All he wants are the setups, so don't waste time banging numbers out on a calculator. Do the homework, then work on speed before the test.
Excellent professor, knows chemistry. Difficult exams designed to test if you did your homework and studied. Failed him p-chem class these first time around. Would take his class again without reservation. Learned more about working hard in life than anything else from him, some chemistry as well. Thanks Dr. Wismer! Class of 1982.
Took him for "Teacher's Chemistry" as I called it, quizzes were easy if you paid attention in class and did your labwork, went over how to make beer at the end of the semester because really, none of us cared by that point.
Amazing Person! Amazing class cause it actually made me learn by myself. Yes you do a lot of learning by yourself, which has benefits. As long as you TRY your homework and ask questions, there should be no problem in his class.
I wouldn't recommend taking him for a required course. He's incredibly experienced, but has had almost 4 decades to come up with layers upon layers of policies for every little detail of everything you do in the class. It's easy to miss something, and he can get really spiteful if you do.
Best professor and advisor! Dr. Robert K Wismer represents principle, fairness, integrity, caring, patience, and passion. If you have no intention on learning but expect an easy A, he's not that kind of professor for you. Thank you for 4 wonderful years at Millersville, for your career and life advices, Dr. Wismer. Your student class of 99'.
