He teaches Web Classes that only a computer expert would know how to do. He wanted us to master excell, access, etc. more than learn bio. He posted work late and without notice of when it was due. He chewed me out for asking him if he recieved a test.
Very hard exams and homework. He expects us to always be prepared. Even if we a re not bio majors.
Homework almost every weekend.
Difficult course with lots of paperwork and labs to do.
Extremely unwilling to work with you.
To all those complaining about Wyatt's web clases: think about this. Unlike other professors, he has to make his video presentations, so that means he spends his personal time doing so. He also makes these available, so if you are too lazy to come to class, you still get the notes. Yeah, he expects the work to be in on time - just like all profs do. He won't give you an easy A. But if you show him consistent work, you will be rewarded with a better grade than you'd otherwise get.
Not an easy class, even online. Just don't forget things are due and visit Blackboard a lot.
I took his online BIO 114 class, expecting a simple (1 credit) cirriculum. Well the topics were simple, but his grading was not. I can not think of one student that did not have issues with him. DON"T HOLD BACK! If you wait to say something he will not help you unless you speak up right when it happened
To all these bad reviews, you are in a low level bio course, there is no way you should do bad. I love his class, its is very interesting and his tests are short answer, so yes you have to know the material, but he always gives partial credit. He has the class laid out very well.
He is unwilling to work with you. Lectures are dull and boring. Does not attempt to make it fun or interesting. Hard tests.
Material is interesting but his lectures are not. Class is boring. This class is hard but it shouldn't be. The teacher makes this class hard because he isn't a good teacher. I had to teach everything to myself. Test are short answer. Sadly he is a smart aleck at times. You can get a good grade though if you are able to teach yourself.
He is a horrible professor. He doesn't explain anything clearly. He thinks you already know most of it so he goes fast. He is of no help as a teacher. Feels like an independent learning class than a lecture. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS!!!
Dr. Wyatt, himself is a good person and definitely a smart guy, he knows what he is talking about. However knowing your material and teaching the material are two different things. It felt like an independent learning class. I never missed a lecture, but it didnt help me at all. When i visited his office hours he did not help me either. AVOID
Dr. Wyatt is an extremely smart man, however I feel like this makes him lack when trying to relay information to students. He taught 120 like it was a graduate level BIO, whizzing through lectures and rarely explaining things. Hard to understand topics, HW and exams are tough.
Dr. Wyat is not clear or concise to say the least, his unclear lecture style is hard to follow and he rarely explains the topics which he flies over. I would not recommend this class to anyone, he makes Bio 120 feel like taking the class as an independent study.
Great and smart person however NOT a great teacher! His lectures are fast! he flies straight through the material and pretty much exactly from the book. If you can't teach yourself out of a book do not take his class! It is tough like BIO 420 not BIO 120 and when you ask a question you get "read the book then read it again".
He runs through slide shows and talks with his hands as if we can picture what he is saying. Very confusing and says that the only way we will pass is if we memorize the book. Only study tip he will give you is "read the book". Terrible teacher because he does not care about if we learn but if we read and memorize the book.
Dr. Wyatt seems to be a very smart guy, however, his knowledge doesnt help when he cant explain things on a lower level. Going to class does not help. This was a 100 level class taught like a 400 level class. This class was to prepare me for the higher classes and it did not do that because I stayed confused. Going to class did not help. Terrible!
Dr. Wyatt is knowledgable, but not a good professor at all. Attending the lecture will not help you, they are pretty much useless. The class is basically an independent study, you have to teach yourself everything, and he is unwilling to help. Reading the book entirely (more than once) is the only way to pass. Avoid this guy at all costs.
Dr. Wyatt is the reason why I now love biology. As long as you actually read the book and go to class everyday then you'll have a good grade. the tests are reasonable and Dr. Wyatt will always go over any questions you have. He's by far one of the best teachers I've ever had. YOU ROCK DR. WYATT. The only students who criticize him are the lazy ones
Dr. Wyatt is actually a great professor despite what others may say about him. Anyone who says this is the "hardest course" they've ever taken obviously didn't put any effort into it. Yes, it requires a lot of studying. A lot of information is covered in 120. But I don't think that should reflect poorly on Dr. Wyatt.
All of his exams come straight out of the textbook. I paid zero attention in lecture but still had a 96 in the class, because I read the textbook. This class really isn't hard, provided you read the book.
Lectures are boring, and don't expect to get much out of them. Reading the textbook is 100% necessary, and he is very condescending. He knows what he's talking about, but don't expect much explanation during lectures.
Don't expect an easy A out of this class. He talks very quickly and is rather difficult to understand. Most questions from the exam come straight from the textbook so make sure you read. He definitely knows what he's talking about, but he is way too smart to be teaching such a basic level of biology.
Dr. Wyatt is very knowledgeable about the information that is taught in BIO120. In fact he knows the information so well he shouldn't be teaching an introductory Bio course. He can be difficult to understand and ask questions to. Honestly though I am glad I took Bio 120 with Dr. Wyatt because it has prepared me for upper level science classes.
When it comes to Bio 120 you have the wrong professor . I spent most of time in this class listening to Wyatt tell me about topics that are in the 122 class. He also was not great at making a topic understandable he was more of a "I'm gonna tell you and if you do not get it then read the book if that doesn't help google it" professor.
Professor Wyatt is almost too smart for his own good. He is unable to explain the material in a way that students can understand. Many times in lectures he will go off and start talking about something completely different. If u read the book & do the learnsmarts, exams are quite easy. Many questions come straight from the learnsmarts.
I believe I would do better in this class if I skipped class and just read the book. He only reads from the power points and is rude when students ask him questions. If you don't want to ruin your GPA then I recommend not taking his class. However, if you're in for a challenge then this is the right class for you.
Worst profesor I've ever had. He brags about himself, makes rude comments, singles out students and puts them on the spot in front of the class, doesn't explain content well at all. I cannot understand why WKU has him on payroll. His tests don't match lecture material and powerpoints. Had I stayed home, I could've taught myself better. Fire him.
He is very rude and terrible!
Wyatt lectures by reading off of the slides that he posts on blackboard. His tests aren't straight forward, you really have to apply the information. He doesn't prepare you for the tests with his lectures. You have to read the textbook and his slide shows to understand the material.
Dr. Wyatt is a difficult professor, but he is a great teacher. He pushes his students to truly learn the material rather than memorize it for a test just to forget about it the next day. His class has pushed me more as a student than any other I have taken, but I have also learned more in this class than all of my previous biology courses combined.
Worst professor I have ever had. I am a senior taking 400 level classes and I have to study more for a freshmen biology class than in my other classes. He never responds to emails and when asked to look at the tests he says theres no point you know what you know. Rude teacher and thinks he's the smartest professor in biology. Do not take him!
He is a great and funny guy but not a great professor. His tests were all short answer (this is actually beneficial) but do not accurately measure what you know about the content. He is not very organized in the presentation of material and takes a while to grade tests.
All lectures are on powerpoint. First 20 minutes of class are review of last class, some claims and information seem unsupported.
Please! I'm begging you not to take this professor. He does NOT teach. It's as simple as that. He goes through his littler power point and rambles about various things then tells you the power points are not a good representation of the test material (which is true). If you want to teach biology to yourself, take this class. The tests are so hard.
I barely got out of this class with an A. This was the hardest thing I've ever done because I had to learn everything by myself. This guy is reallllly bad. I spent hours re-reading the textbook before each exam. The questions are really hard. Everything you learn in class is useless. The textbook is all that matters. Also his class is the worst.
If Robert Wyatt is your only option, I am so sorry. Be prepared to read that textbook as many times as humanly possible because that's what you need to get an A. Wyatt himself will teach you absolutely nothing. He will simply click through a power point made my someone else and talk about random things that relate to science. Incredibly painful.
Learn to be best friends with your textbook because that's the only way you'll pass the class. There's absolutely NO reason to go to class because he just reads off the slides anyways which doesn't help for the test. Don't listen to him when he says "you won't need to worry about this for the test" YES YOU WILL. HE'LL ASK YOU 10 QUESTIONS ON IT.
I had Dr. Wyatt for 120 and 319. He is an absolute character and makes class interesting. He does go off on tangents and the powerpoints are sometimes unhelpful so you have to get into the material yourself. The 319 tests were short answer and really indicative of learning. He is hands-down my favorite professor and I would gladly take him again!
Worst professor I've ever had. Extremely boring, just reads off the slides in class. He gives no effort in teaching, and takes pleasure in giving his students bad grades. He has single-handedly ruined biology for me. What a terrible professor!
Goes way too fast and doesnt seem interested to be there teaching. He explains things well but he goes to fast. So before you can tjink and comprehend what he says he is already moving on to the next part of the lecture.
Worst professor ive ever had. If you want an A, dont take him. I did better not going to class then I did when I attended class. He goes over 80+ powerpoint slides every lecture. Miserable and cannot retain information he teaches because of how fast he goes.
Well I don't know where to start. After previously taking BIO 122/23, conducting biology research, and having a biologist as a father all my life, this man's course has made me certain that it is not the field for me. You will NOT be "taught" the material. You will be "told" by a PowerPoint and expected to understand. His upper classes are better.
ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! DO NOT TAKE HIM unless you want a lower your GPA! Rude and cocky. I have had to teach myself EVERYTHING. He reads straight off the power points which you could do better yourself. You're better off using the class time to read and take your own notes. He expects you to already know the material. Didn't even want to give him one
Dr. Wyatt is one of the most arrogant professors I've ever taken. If you ask him a question about the lecture or test he blows you off and don't expect a reply to any of your emails. This is an entry level Bio class for most majors and he exams like it's a 300 level class. 1/10 would NOT recommend.
He is absolutely awful. I learned almost nothing the entire semester. He seems to be as unenthusiastic about class as many of the students. When lecturing, he is very monotone and mainly reads off the PowerPoint. My biggest regret of this semester was taking his course.
He is a lot different than most Professors but he gives assignments and tests straight out of the book. His tests are not difficult whatsoever and if you ACTUALLY show up to class, it helps. I can see why a lot of people would rate him low but overall I thought he was great!
Dr. Wyatt is not an easy teacher by any means. He does not take attendance and relays heavily on the book for questions that you will see on both the homework assignments, and the exams. If you are not willing to read the textbook, and put in the work outside of class, then this professor is not for you. Overall, he is an okay teacher.
I really enjoyed class with Dr. Wyatt; he was intelligent and funny at the same time and made an effort to speak to students outside of class and receive feedback. He has a thing about attendance, so I would definitely try to go as much as you can make yourself. I ended up with like an 87% in the class but he gave me an A letter grade
He is not approachable at all. He is so arrogant and is not very willing to help. He reads directly from the powerpoints during lecture and anything from the lecture or the textbook is fair game for the test.
Dr. Wyatt is a boring professor who basically just reads off his slides and doesn't explain them very well. He doesn't answer questions during lecture or during the test if you are confused. He says, and I quote, "This is the time for answers not questions. Just put the right answer down." I hope I never have to sit through his lecture again.
Does iclicker but refuses to tell you the answers. Reads off PowerPoints. Goes way too fast.
I was just thinking I was having a hard time adjusting but thats definitely not the case. This is not the case at all. He is okay at teaching but he goes so fast that I can not learn anything from him. You might as well help yourself because he wont and dont try to take notes during class. Youll definitely miss something.
Robert Wyatt is the most frustrating professor I have ever had. I had him for Bio 120 my junior year. I had to complete it for one of my majors but put off taking it. If I were a freshman biology major this man would have single-handedly made me chang majors because he makes you dread biology. For the sake of you GPA and sanity dont take him.
Attendance is not mandatory but he uses Reef iClicker to take attendance, and for everyday you're there, you get 2 points as participation. He also does multiple choice questions during this BUT HE WON'T TELL YOU THE ANSWERS!! He also will NOT let you see tests! Be prepared to read every page of the book. I will be lucky to get a C.
Dr. Wyatt goes way to fast through his slides, does not explain the answer to questions asked in class and expects students to know the answer before going through content. I gave up on taking notes in class because it was impossible to listen and take notes so quickly. I am teaching myself for a class I'm paying to attend.
Hardest class of the semester. He is so monotone in lecture and is very arrogant and rude. Refuses to help us. I'll be lucky to pass this class
This was by far the hardest class I have had so far. There is no homework to help you fully understand what you are learning and he goes way too fast during his lectures. There were only four grades and those were tests. I would highly suggest taking someone else for this class.
Wyatt is one of the harder bio120 professors at WKU, so definitely avoid him. If you want an A on the exams you need to read the textbook, and even then there are a lot of exam questions meant to trick you. He is also pretty rude, not really willing to help at all. The online homework is easy (quizlet) but that is the only positive about the class.
When you ask questions about a test all he says is "read the book" or he mocks you in front of the entire class. Homework assignments are all done online, and are not accessible after being submitted, so you cannot review them. He does not hand back tests, so you have no idea what you need to study for the cumulative final. Provides zero feedback.
Dr. Wyatt was very rude and mocking to students in class. He relies solely on lectures which are boring (he uses monotone voice) and not helpful. If you do bad on a single test, it will tank your grade. I would advice you to avoid him when registering for a Bio 120 class. I sure wish someone had advised me against taking him.
I desperately wish I had been warned about Dr. Wyatt prior to registering. He comes across as very arrogant and unapproachable, even though he says students should communicate with him. When a student dares to ask a question in class, he talks down to them. I do not feel like I learned anything in this class, and it is a core for me.
Wyatt reads off his slides throughout every lecture so fast to the point you can't take notes during class. He does not give the chance for students to ask questions, he will say it's in the book or you should know it. He also puts multiple choice questions in slides, that you answer on reef but doesn't give the correct answer. You teach yourself.
Hard but I leaned a lot, thats whats important
This was just not a good class at all. He lectures way too fast, and he never really explains anything. You basically have to learn everything on your own. He also has iClicker questions throughout the lectures, but usually won't tell you what the correct answer is. I absolutely will never take a class from him again, and I would not recommend.
I would strongly advise to not take Dr. Wyatt. He is the most boring professor I have ever taken. His lectures are incredibly long and he speaks in a monotone voice the entire class time. The tests are really hard and you have to read the text to understand anything. I basically taught myself. Do not take Wyatt if you want to understand biology.
I honestly liked having prof Wyatt, he was very clear with presenting the information and as long as you keep up with the notes you can pass this class.
Dr. Wyatt is very intelligent. But he has one of the worst personalities Ive ever seen in a professor/teacher. Hes very arrogant and rude. Nobody asks questions because he always says to read the book. I had to teach myself in this class with barely any help from him at all. I do not recommend him.
if you want to fail just take with him. he is one of the most ridiculous, rude, and mean professor I even seen. No homework, grade all depend on exam. no study guide, ppt is a mess. Being nice to him and ask question it will not work because he will make you like an idiot, and he will not accept any suggestion for student. He just horrible teacher
Professor Wyatt talks incredibly fast, presentation slides are the same pace, will only answer questions with a vague response to have you get the answer yourself. Teaches at a level 7, tests at a level 9, while you're at a level 3. Any requests for accommodations end in a retaliation penalty (I.E. docking test time). Take for a full time job.
Wow I have never disliked a person more in my entire life. He does not teach, not even a little bit. He wont answer any question you have because you "should already know it". He gives you a powerpoint covered with pictures and expects you to learn everything you need to know from google. Wouldn't recommend going near his class with a ten foot pole
If you are easily intimidated, Dr. Wyatt is not the person for you. But, if you go into this class with an open mind and willingness to learn, you will be fine. Dr. Wyatt is a tough cookie, but I learned SO MUCH in this class and I actually remember it. He will have more respect for you if you don't act like you are terrified of him!
Dr. Wyatt makes it much more difficult than it should be. He often spends 2-3 lectures repeating the same thing, then throws a lot of new information in during the last 10 min. He is very unhelpful with questions, and his favorite quote is "just learn everything and quit worrying about the test." He all-in-all doesn't seem to care about students.
If you want to fail, take him! he is so rude and ridiculous. His tests are really hard and his lectures are not helpful at all. You won't get any powerpoints and he expects you to know everything, his lecture seems like they are a review rather than a lecture. He does not care about his students and he is full of himself. don't take him
This class was a beast, and I learned to not expect extra help. Attendance was optional, and there was only one 30 minute zoom meeting per week. I pretty much taught myself the entirety of the class by reading the book. If you are ok with independent learning, Dr. Wyatt might be for you. The assignments aren't too bad, but there's no curving.
If you are someone wanting an easy A do not take Dr. Wyatt for 319(If you don't want to learn why are you in an upper-level BIO class?). If you are in a pre-professional track, Dr. Wyatt will prepare you for the entrance exam and you will retain all the information you learn. If you perpetually want things handed to you look elsewhere.
I have had to teach this entire course by myself, and anytime I needed Rob's help, I always received the same answers: "look in the presentation," or "it's in the textbook," and my personal favorite, "just look it up!!" So what is Rob doing for this class? Nothing. He complains about his other classes and uses that as an excuse to not teach.
I would avoid this professor at all costs. He did not teach a single lecture and only insisted on answering questions. When it came to answering questions, he would indirectly answer it causing even more confusion.
I do not recommend taking Dr. Wyatt. He expects you to know everything. When we did bad on a quiz, he would say to rewatch the lectures and read the book to figure out what we got wrong. He would not review any quizzes or tests with you. The Zoom questionnaires were not helpful. Only take this class if you are good at teaching yourself.
Absolutely the worst professor I've ever had. His Zoom sessions are incredibly useless and his only answer to a student's question is "read the textbook". He uses another teacher's lectures and doesn't seem to put any effort into the class. He's also very rude and passive aggressive. If you actually want to learn about biology, avoid this professor
Do not recommend this professor. The only grades you receive in the class are from 4 exams, 1 being the final. You cant ask him a question and expect to get anything more than a rude comment. The material does not follow any order and there is no outline/objective for the topics posted anywhere. Do not recommend.
Does not know how to teach in any capacity and does not explain how to study for any of his impossible tests. He lacks empathy. Dont take him if you want to learn anything. Do take him if you want to feel like you are being hazed by the Biology Department.
Honestly awful. This class with him has been a joke. This class was a waste of my time and energy. Tests are impossible. He has no empathy. I could not even tell you what the class was about he is so terrible. T/F Students should NEVER take Bio 319 with Wyatt, was literally one of his test questions. The answer to this question is TRUE.
