Nice guy but did not use the white board one time to explain problems when asked. All he did was read the slides from the disc that came with the book and use the stupid laser pointer. He assigns a TON of homework problems! 96 problems before first exam! Worst class I have ever had and I studied like crazy. He allows a cheat sheet for exams though.

Nice guy, boring subject. Some days attendance is mandatory, you watch quite a few movies, and all the homework you get is with a group and is fairly easy. In my opinion, he tries to emphasize on the details and not on the core of the class, and trying to get us to use Test Driven Development as one of the ways to code something? My suggestion is that change the labs into a more engaging one, rather than fixing codes, maybe building something is better as a start. Also improve the way of lecturing.

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF. The lectures were difficult to understand and boring because of his monotone voice. I'd also recommend having programming experience before taking this class. My grade was only saved by CS tutoring and there being tons of assignments and extra credit. The only redeemable thing about this prof is he lets you join through Zoom.

Easy class. Lot's of EC opportunities. Attendance is mandatory but only 5% so I didn't go often. Still learned a decent amount. For our final group project, we built a simple Android app in Java. Choose good partners. 4 tests 3rd is optional ec. A few easy quizzes here and there worth 2%.

One of the worst professors I have ever had. His grading criteria was completely unclear for all assignments and incredibly unfair. He would fail your assignment just for wrong capitalization in the project name. He took off points for things he never specified in the instructions. Tried emailing several times to complain but he rarely ever helped.

Great professor. You need to go through pre lecture notes! Also TA's are great to access and reach out to when asking about questions regarding labs and hw. He is understand and cracks jokes. He is quiet but a good lecturer regarding info on topics so sit in the front! This class is what you put in is what you get out! three exams including a final

COMP170 is a grind. Class is practically asynchronous as Yacobellis lets you join through Zoom. All class material online. Lots of assignments throughout the semester. DON'T FORGET TO DO THE WEEKLY QUIZZES; it's a huge part of your grade but easily forgettable. Very important to read textbook. Relied on outside help too much and left feeling uneasy

this class is A LOT of work. theres 1-2 assignments, 1-2 labs, and 1 quiz per week; 3 exams and a final project. BUT, it really helps you learn JavaScript and because its graded by a lot you can fail 1/2 things. Yacobellis is honestly great and very helpful throughout the class. he always gives clear, helpful answers when you have questions!

Dr. Yacobellis' teaching is straighforward & informative. He will just present his slides then give 30 min to complete labs in class then teach again. There is A LOT of hw. People have mentioned it on here. The book helps but PLZ read the chapters on time or even ahead of time. They really do help! TIME MANAGEMENT will be your friend.

This class was easy as long as you know the deadlines to the projects. Submit them on time and the grading is not too harsh. There was a huge jump in projects in the middle of the semester. But they're pretty responsive and accessible in receiving help. The test and quizzes are not too bad either. There is alos extra credit opportunities.

I had Dr. Yacobellis for 170 and I wasn't too fond of him. Then I had to take him for 313, and my opinion of him change drastically. He's a great professor, and I think he enjoys teaching people who are actually interested in CS. Lot of extra credit opportunities.

Professor Yacobellis is a man with messy teaching qualities. Despite being an intro class, he expects you to know a lot. The Sakai and assignment desc. are very messy. His monotone voice and lack of enthusiasm make it extremely hard to engage. I have prior coding knowledge, and cant imagine how difficult it is for others. Joining on Zoom is allowed

Robert is snooze fest! Most boring professor that I've ever had. If this was the only issue, he wouldn't be too bad, but his work-load is also inhuman! Many concepts aren't the most difficult to grasp and you are just forced through the motions repeatedly. Furthermore, he's a horrible grader; his feedback for a 2/10 said "Solution is incorrect"

He is by far the worst professor I've had at Loyola. He is incredibly unhelpful, will give no good feedback, and makes zero attempts to keep you engaged. If you have no prior coding experience absolutely do not take him.
