Excellent
Very funny teacher and somewhat laid back. His multiple choice exams were a little challenging.
This guy knows his stuff and tries his best to keep the class' attention by relating the material to real life scenarios. Quiz & exams are based off textbook so you MUST read the chapters. Barely gave hwk so when he does give one, DO IT. Email responsiveness is bad. Attendance isnt mandatory so if you decide to skip class, you BETTER do the reading
Ok people, I'm 100 percent sure he wrote all these positive reviews himself. And he is definitely the type to do so. Let me warn you, this guy is ridicules. All he does is talk about the old days. He does no teaching, but takes the exam questions all from the book. Boring class.
Thank you very very much Professor Zwick, You are a kind and good man indeed. I am very grateful and I will remember your kindness, thank you for the reassurance, it was needed. Thank you again Professor Zwick,
lots of excuses and he kept repeating same stuff over and over. I was very interested to take this class but became very disappointed after first couple of lectures. It doesn't worth it to spend time on his lectures. The final paper was like a english 2 final paper, not a computer security assignment. Not recommend for people who want to learn a lot
Thank you for great experience in the summer class, I expected school to be hell during summer, however, it was not that bad. Enjoyed it much, so thanks for pleasant experience
Lectures great, but person is phenomenal.
Zwick's class is pretty easy, but be prepared to show up to every class. Test questions are taken straight from a website he gives, plus two assignments and a hands on final. If you have basic Office skills, this class shouldn't be a problem for you. He can be rude sometimes but overall not a bad professor...
As someone else mentioned, he definitely wrote those positive reviews himself (they all have the exact same ratings numbers). The class is easy especially if you go in already versed in Office. As a professor he can be mean and even though this is an easy class he doesn't like giving out A's. I would not recommend taking him under any circumstance.
Can't get a question in... He's always right, even when he is wrong. I will stay for this course but I will never take another one of his classes. AVOID!
Very helpful.
Makes an easy class very tough
do not take him :(
His tests are absolutely ridicules and full of unclear questions. This class is supposed to be relatively easy but it was incredibly annoying and hard. You have to know every single detail in the book like the exact dates of a lot of acts. He's also really rude to his students most of the time.
Zwick is terrible. As said by others he wrote many of his positive reviews. This professor screams allot, students are actually scared of this guy. His tests are unclear, long and difficult. Expect 5 essays and homework.
Not the worst professor, but not the best either. Going to any of his lectures is pointless since you can learn all you need from the book. His assignments are arbitrary as if there was a quota for assignments that have to be given. On the bright side he does give a good deal of extra credit and the lecture are interesting enough.
long lectures that you have to sit through. tests are all from the textbook. ignore him and read the textbook and you'll be fine. not the worst. take him if no one else is available
Worst professor at BC, he is rude and annoying. He makes the class SUPER hard, 6-7 essays, The class has 2 FINALS - 1 Midterm 2- exams. Each test has 50-100 Mult choice / T/F questions which are impossible, he takes the most obscure meaningless fact from the book and will put that on the exam. The worst. Avoid
This is a writing-intensive course, so be prepare to write a lot of essays. you have to read the textbook since all the tests are base on the textbook, so do the reading. TEST ARE HARD. Most of the semester he is the only one teaching but some semester there are other professors teaching this course. So, don't take him unless you have to take it.
The tests are pretty much word for word from the text books. The syllabus is useless, and the assignments he posts to Blackboard will frequently have grammatical and actual errors involving due dates. Overall, the professor is a jerk, and doesn't teach the actual course, opting instead to teach a poor facsimile of a Harvard youtube class. Ugh.
Funny professor. Papers were graded quickly and wasn't too tough on grading. Very reasonable man. Class was entertaining and he encourages a lot of class participation
Exams are extremely hard, they are based on memorizing.. Lots of homework to do, however he has a very nice personality and he is willing to help students pass by scheduling class to help, and he gives lots of extra credit so you don't do good on the tests you still have a good chance to pass with good grade.
At least once every class, he spends five to ten minutes telling us that he's a great professor and an inspiration to his students.
Very poor professor. Interesting class but very unfair grading. Tests are based on memorizing the textbook. You will never get anything back, and you will never know why you are getting the grades you are getting. I deserved a B+ atleast and got a B instead. AVOID!
Took him for Computer Ethics. He is passionate about what he teaches & wants students to display an ethical curiosity on top of effort. He will give you a great thorough understanding of the necessity for an ethical lifestyle. His tests are mostly from the book so read it with care attending to the details. Makes you reflect & grow intellectually.
Zwick is a nice and lovable man. He tell some interesting stories. Relativity easy grader. Be ready to write a lot of papers and sometimes about no so exciting topics. English is my 3rd language and I got mostly A's and a couple of -A's for all my papers. All the questions on the tests are straight from the text book. Extra credit also available.
Amazing professor, but expect a huge workload(Writing intensive class). Zwick gives extra credit to help boost your grades if you do poorly from the exams. Beware on the exams, make sure to read for small details or facts for Zwick will test you on the small contextual details. Zwick gives interesting lectures and makes you work for your grade.
Professor Zwick is an interesting guy. I've taken CISC 2820W over the winter period, and while it was overwhelming, I enjoyed every lecture. He doesn't use powerpoint, and he's more of a traditional type of professor(writes on the board). Read the syllabus clearly and the grading rubric to do good on the essays. Exams were based on textbook.
A good professor but like everyone said, tests are really hard and tons of papers to write. Do your best.
He is very confusing. During one of his lectures he was talking about Kantian ethics but he used an example that we shouldn't spend money on prisoners getting job training after they are released from prison because most criminals go back to jail, which is unrelated and leaves out context. So I suggest just ignoring the lectures & reading the book
easy grader, just read chapter and go class, study multiple choice questions. lots of writing assignment, go class or you will miss in class assignment which is 100 point. easy A.
he gives tests, online assignments, and lectures a lot. Textbook is very useful since his lectures often go off topic and he will still test you on what is on the slides so read the chapters. He is clearly a proud person so i would not argue with him or question anything he says. other than that you should be fine.
I am currently taking his class. He lectures a lot but most of it isnt on the exams. The exams come from the textbook. He tells a lot of stories and will repeat his stories. They dont have anything to do with the course he just likes to tell stories of his youth. So just study from the textbook and try to sit through his lectures and ace the test
The insane number of homework at the end of the semester. Watch 12 videos each 2 hours long and write a research paper (12 pages), read articles and write about them. Read and remember 10 chapters for final (literary remember, each chapter 30-40 pages) + read extra from the internet and the book (10 things) to write 6 essays for the final.
His grading criteria is very unclear. You have to email him your papers and sometimes he lose it. He grades C or C- without any fdbk. I am not exlnt in writing but not worst. I got an A in both of My ENGLISH I and English II. This made me clear that He should be on Harvard University. He have minimum 8-12 papers, 1 mid term and Final part 1 and 2.
His style of teaching is very outdated and he gives a lot of homework that overlaps in material. So you will be writing and reading more than other classes. The papers are graded slowly and he gives little to no feedback. Also he tells a lot of stories that have nothing to do with the class.
Honestly not really as bad of a guy as everyone makes him out to be, his tests are all common sense, just review the questions in the textbook. The writing is tedious but you have a lot of time for all the assignments and theyre all pretty easy, and you get a lot of time to do them. Class is boring but mandatory but he does his best hes a nice guy!
His grading is very vague. Gives little to no feedback. Would avoid at all costs. You will learn nothing in his class
This class is a memorization class. He loves to talk about Harvard for some reason. Tries to act like michael sandel. Way too many useless assignments and tests.
His lecture has nothing to do with the tests. You can never come to class and just read the textbook. Only good thing about him is that he tells you what is due.
If you see another professor teaching this course, take him. Run away from this professor
He doesn't know how to grade. Give no feedback on your work. If you ask him any questions about your work, he gives a vague answer. He just skims your work and gives you a letter grade.
His notes are bad. You can barely read them. The lecture has nothing to do with the test
Basically a class you'll never need in you life
His class a memorization class. You don't even need to go to his class. His tests are based on the textbook. He also takes attendance once a month. He also assigns a bunch of papers that really are opinion based. I wonder if he actually grades the papers cuz it looks like his just skims through it and give you a grade. His in class writing are dumb
learned nothing. If you see another professor take him. He gives a bunch of assignments. His midterm and final were 50-80 multiple choice questions on the textbook. The final is split into two parts, one part is multiple choice, the other is essay portion. The final research paper is 7-11 pgs, single spaced, yes single space and 11 size font.
His in class assignments and writing assignments are useless. Barely provides feedback. Literally saw him in class grading someone's test during an in class assignment and he literally skimmed through the test and wrote a grade. He didn't even write anything!
If you ask him a question about your feedback on your assignment, he gives a vague answer. Loves to cut off in the middle of the conversation for some reason? Weird dude
his teaching style is very outdated
I like his personality and the class discussions, but the class took a turn for the worse when the "mini" research paper was introduced, which was a 7 - 11 page SINGLE SPACE, 11 font padded out nightmare. Made even worse was the ridiculous decision to have two finals on two separate days. That ruined the class experience for me sadly.
he's the only one that teaches the computer ethics class. Honestly all he does is talk. Lecture has nothing to do with the test, rather the textbook is your life saver. Lots of assignments for no reason. And his grading style is really weird. Someone got an A on the assignment but he suddenly changed it to an A-. And he loves talking about harvard.
Honestly I wonder if he even uses the grading requirements from the syllabus. He gives no feedback on the assignments. It seems like he just skims our assignments cuz theres no way in hell he'll read word for word on our assignments. Literally had 10+ assignments with a 7-11 pg paper. He may seem "nice" but it looks like he doesn't really care.
He is not bad at times. But most of the times he speaks so fast which can't be track. He gives soo many papers and exams are bit difficult i should say.
confusing teacher. One time he told us out of the blue that he would give an extra credit assignment. barely told us the requirements for the assignment & continued on with the lecture. the entire class thought it was just non-sense. He basically give random grades & barely checks ur work. u can ask if he checked ur work & he'll give a vague answer
He's generally the only choice for this required class. Easy to get a good grade, but boy is he boring. He gives TONS of work; there's a final paper and a two-part final. Nothing is hard, but it's extremely tedious. Also, his "debate" is just him encouraging a bunch of vocal students to yell more at each other. Won't learn anything.
Barely get homework, throws in a few jokes, hands-on lecture. Told him I wanted to meet him, and he immediately came to my attention after class. Take notes during lectures, helpful for exam. He speaks fast at times, suggest you record lecture in memos. Midterm & exam based on textbook(read it!). Gave 2 projects. Be attentive, can orally quiz you.
His class requires you to read a textbook that relates to the ideas he covers in his lectures. He does assign a lot of papers, but do them in a timely manner. He also gives quite a bit of extra credit. As for exams, just read the textbook and make a study guide that contains key terms and info. You just have to work hard to do well.
Gave me the lowest grade I have ever received at this school. He gave me an F on a paper I spent days working on and refused to explain what I did wrong. My exams were all 90+ and the other papers were mostly As. I can only imagine how much worse it gets if you don't put in a ton of effort into this class.
I think the current 2.x rating is misleading. Zwick is by far the most engaging and interesting professor I have ever had, so at least the class is very interesting. However, there are lots of essays (it's a writing intensive class), but they're graded fairly. The quizzes are completely ridiculous though. Memorize EVERY WORD of the book.
Randomly calling on people. Never return and give feedback to student of their paper. Please Avoid !!!! but the school only have this person teaching CISC2820 ethic. Horrible.
His lecture consists of repeating random stories that have no relevant to the class. He does not seem knowledgeable in CS calling a trojan horse a type of virus. (it is is a type of malware). Assigns a lot of papers and readings. Class is a waste of time.
Became a political science class where we barely mention anything about computer ethnics. He randomly calls on people. He provides no feedback on the grades he assigns for papers. Skip the lectures and read the textbook.
He will give you a book on robotics to read and trust me, if you give time to that book, you will get an A. The book is also fun to read because it's simplifies ideas and expands your thinking.
This is an easy class and a place to learn handy skills in tech. This is the class to challenge yourself and think beyond. Don't expect the professor to teach everything to you, because the class is more about exploring on your own. I read the book, research on things I didn't understand and learned about the great potential opportunities in tech.
If you have him, good luck!!!!! Pray to god every night(extra hard) or whatever you believe in. Because this professor is something else.
He's a nice guy and his lectures are extremely fun. However this is the only good thing I can say about this course. The 3 tests are based off these readings which are extremely long and boring. And the writings, even worse your expected to write nearly 50 pages worth of content. Never again. An ethics class shouldn't make me hate ethics.
Exams are based on the textbook. Writing are easy but do not relate to information technology at all. The writings are usually about a philosopher. Class is extremely boring.
Amazing professor. Very wise and clever.
Horrible Prof. Lecture has nothing to do with tech ethics. Essay grade standard is not clear. His tests r ridiculous, u need to read the book yourself and sign a "honest document" which he think you may stop cheating. Online class, how do u guarantee? If u dont sent this ridiculous document, you will fail your test. Ridiculous Prof.
Besides, he is a careless. If u ask him question, his answer is vague. Yes or no is what u want for your answer, but he gives u a long story and u need to figure out what he said. Never reply your eamil, but it is fine cuz he teach more 100 students. Anyway avoid him. He is the most ridiculous I ever met.
the worest prof. I met in bc. make a tech ethics class to a political and humanity philosophy class. always give u a vague answer on anything. keep talking politics or government policies in the class. no tech knowledge. absolutely a nightmare. and he even think what we said on rate my prof about him is inaccurate. TRASH PROF.
He's cool sometimes, but brings up inappropriate hypotheticals. Essay requirements aren't clear and he assigns an insane amt of work. Final paper is 8-11 pages single spaced, but there's a second "final" where its MC and another essay. Seems to give you whatever grade he wants to give you. HWK is based on other's lectures and work, not his own.
Professor Zwick is a really good professor, too many classmates and reviews online here just lazily complaining ovr amt of work. He grades fair, explains concepts by analogy, points you in direction with the right material but you HAVE TO DO THE WORK AND READ AND DO THE WRITING. This is college not a diploma mill and he wants the best for us.
Professor Zwick is awe-inspiring and the grade you get is definitely based on the work you put in. He's passionate about his teachings and has a personal background revolving around the subject, making him an extremely good professor.
I understand the bad reviews, but that is because he makes you work for your grade. You will work on various essays, readings, etc. But it is worth it, you will have a strong understanding of various topics by the end of the class. There are lots of Extra credits and essays. It's for your own good, so do your best, don't do it at the last minute.
This being an online class set a different atmosphere for the students and the professor. Even though students are better taught in a classroom, this semester went rather smoothly. The Tests were fair and if you work smart then you can easily get an A. He taught some great facts about ethics and morality that we witness rather daily.
Professor Zwick encourages participation in the class and his lessons are thought-provoking. His tests are based on the textbook, so make sure to read and study from it! The amount of effort you put into the class determines your grade. The grading policy for essays is clear, make sure you follow the rubric. Can be hard to hear with monotone voice.
Sometime randomly calls on students so participate from time to time. Don't stress yourselves too hard on the many assignments he gives because it literally takes about 2 days to submit all student grades for that assignment. Instead of using BB' submission tool, students email ALL assignment to him which isn't ideal at all.
Was debating between a 3 or 4. No doubt that he is knowledgeable and well-educated. Don't get the wrong idea. "Writing-intensive" is put to an extreme; so much work! He can be disorganized and lectures can be very unengaging and one-sided. For a soft skill class like this, it should be a lot more fun and multi-sided. Might just be online classes.
Excellent Professor, I had the pleasure of taking his course a few semesters ago and he is very straightforward, most of the topics are ethics related across the board so not really tech heavy. Good grader
This professor is actually a good professor and is focused with a heavy essay writing element. His work, however, is not hard or difficult but rather sometimes tedious. He gives clear instructions on the assignments, has a midterm and final, and a paper. He allows extensions and teaches real world facts.
He's one of the most easiest professor in Brooklyn College. If you are having any difficulties in the class just talk to him and he will comfort you. He's always willing to help his students. But he his a every busy man, you have to email him multiple times to get his attention. Test are multiple choice and short answers sometimes short essays.
Few assignments throughout the semester, 1 midterm (70 questions), an 8 page final paper, and a 2 part final exam. The final exam is brutal, first part is 80 questions MC and TF, second part is 6 essays, both parts are out of 100. Your efforts in this class can be undone in just the final alone. Gives EC, but doesn't curve, so I would avoid.
My overall graded work average for the class was an A-, dude submitted me a B+ final grade. When I emailed him to ask what happened, he never responded, even though I did well on the exams, work, and extra credit. Some students said he just pulls grades out of random and they were right. Avoid him if you can.
This professor is actually a GREAT professor and is focused with a heavy essay writing element. not hard or difficult but tedious; gives clear instructions , a quiz, midterm and final, and 6 papers. sometimes even allows extensions; and teaches real world facts and integrates with live scenarios
One of my favorite teachers ever, the man has so much knowledge and is excited to share everything he can with his students. He single handle makes my day after a rough time in other classes. There’s not much work just essays and mini essays but they’re all just you giving a take essentially so it’s pretty easy if you pay attention.
To say this is a bad professor is an understatement. He gives unclear and often contradictory instructions on the writing assignments. There is no communication - he doesn't respond to emails and he gives ZERO feedback. Exams are 60 multiple choice questions on random useless trivia from the book. His lectures are alright but everything else sucks.
Expect to wring tons of essays if you are about to enroll in his class. Lectures have nothing to do with your exams. He will never respond to your email and will give 0 feedback on your assignments. The final exam has two-part, the first part is 80 questions, and in the second part, you have to write 6-7 short essays.
Avoid him at all costs. He teaches ethics but what he does is not ethical at all. Everything is hella confusing. He provides ZERO feedbacks . He does NOT reply to emails. He is rude and thinks he is funny. His exams are the worst and can ruin ur grade easily !!!!! Just try avoiding him and save your gpa.
Prof. Zwick's lectures are engaging, entertaining and he's funny.
He's better than what a lot of people are saying. But there's merit to a lot of the complaints. Grading feedback is non-existent. It's hard to communicate with him. Assignments are long and instructions often unclear. Lectures irrelevant but mandatory. But if you dont half-ass the work and you participate, you will do fine.
Easy to get an A if you do all your assignments and readings. Gives opportunity to get extra credit. Exams are completely based on the book. His lectures can be tedious since he talks fast but overall, he's lectures are interesting to listen.
Terrible. Instructions are never provided for assignments and the lectures do not relate to the book at all. Final paper which is due before Thanksgiving with horrid exam dates and the class is so disorganized. All of my CS classes are incredibly helpful and then we have this class with improper instruction. AVOID!
HORRIBLE
bad instructions and he barely talks about computers
We don't learn any of the subject in class and do random Harvard class assignments the whole time. The lectures would be good if it wasn't with such an awful course, we don't learn anything from the textbook.
A 20 page paper, 10 point font single space, due a month before the class ends, for a 3 credit class, among all the other papers, in class writings, and 3 tests?????????????????????????????????????????
Worst professor so bad and disorganized
so disorganized i have no idea when the final even is and he doesnt tell us when class is cancelled
Great professor, got a lot of wisdom to share. Answers questions , easily accessible outside of class. Awesome!
Professor Zwick isn't the best and he isn't the worst. You are required to do an excessive amount of reading and write a 20 page research paper. You won't learn much out of this class. He gives out four exams and that will be worth 70% of your grade. This isn't horrible if the final exam had anything to do with what you read. Good luck!
Professor Zwick's 2820W course is intensive and there's a large amount of reading and writing that you will have to do in this course. Majority of your grade comes from exams, so you should study up for it for it if you wish to get a good grade. Speak to him about concerns that you have and he will try his best to solve it for you.
This professor is awesome all his lectures was based on the book all you have to do to pass the exams was read the chapters and all his tests were multiple choice and T/F if you want to pass this class easily take him.
Great story teller, provides real life events around I.T. Shares wisdom to students. Provides many extra credit opportunities. Exams are multiple choice with short answer questions. Only the final paper is lengthy but gives an extension to complete.
Read the textbook, that will save you on the multiple choice exams. The written exams are all lecture based but if you have a good idea of ethical philosophy you'll be good. Don't take bad notes, terms/names/dates are all important. That 20p paper will kill you. If you're outgoing participate !! It's a tough class but he isn't terrible.
Very clear professor and pay attention to the lectures
Professor teaches real-life scenarios that don't relate to ethics in computer science! Useless lectures. It's better to stay home and read the textbook to prepare for the exams. Tests are hard but doable. 20 page single spaced paper is the final project. Professor never gives clear directions for the extra credits/papers.
You're given roughly 3 mandatory written homework, a bunch of extra credit but he only ends up grading 1 of them, 1 16-20 page written research paper, 2 in class written work, 2 exams, 1 multiple choice final, and 1 written final. His grading is not clear enough and it feels like he just makes up whatever grade he feels like at the time
Pro: Attendance isn't mandatory except announcements he post Con: Exam contains T/F, multiple choice, vocab words, 40+ words "essay" Random E/C is given in class but he never grade them At the end, you have a 20 (or less) page research paper on videos on YT but doing 5 is enough cause there no way he'll check all students 20 pages research paper
No comment.
Prof. Zwick is generous man, and can fairly help with grading...Just follow what he needs from you.
Most of the stuff on exams is in the textbook and yaps all class. Not as bad as people say, just don't expect an email response If you need to contact him. 20 page paper not as hard as it sounds, you can write half and get away with a B.
Assigns an overwhelming amount of work that he doesn't even read and gives an excessive number of tests. His lectures are completely unrelated to the exams and assignments. Only take this class if you have no other classes or work commitments for the semester.
Class is entertaining and engaging. Fails to properly clarify exam content. Not allocating enough time for assignments. Short response writing is labeled as essays, essays are labeled as mini research papers/projects, misleading and confusing. Class is textbook reliant, students must read in its entirety. Fails to respond to emails.
Prof. Zwick's 2820W class is manageable if you engage with the material. Lectures align with the free textbook, and he provides ample extra credit opportunities. unstuck study was a helpful study tool alongside the textbook. Staying on top of assignments is key to doing well.
He's not a terrible professor, but there are better options available. If you have the chance to choose a different instructor I recommend doing so. However if he's your only option you'll manage just fine. At times he seems a bit unfit for teaching but if you read the textbook, practice on your own and do assignments an A is easy
