I would highly recommend this teacher to anyone taking the intro to sociology course. When I came by her office hours she was very helpful in answering my questions about the material or papers we had to write.
If you acctually want to learn something, I would recomend wathching an hour or two of Sesame Street. This is the easiest class ever. Take it if you want an easy A, dont if you want to learn anything.
I enjoyed this class, she made learning fun and easy in the process. I definately recomend her on to anyone else that has to take soc
The biggest liberal feminist I've ever encountered at OU. She shoves films and stats down your throat and never presents both sides of any issue..."Do with this as you will."
sociology can be difficult because it is debatable. But with her, if you don't say exactly what she thinks, your screwed. Nice, good intentions, but a little too opinionated and thinks she is right about everything.
Very liberal teacher who talks about how much blacks are apressed. Her views are very opinionated and to get an A, just tell her waht she likes and wants to hear.
I thought she was a good prof, she was very opinionated but that made her more passionate about what she was teaching. She is always there for help and she makes the class interesting. I'm happy I took it with her.
Great teacher, loves her job and is very passionate. She makes it apparent at the beginning of class that her mission isn't to make anyone fail. Getting a B in the class and the final isn't cumulative. Take this class, it's interesting and she's cool.
Prof. Rpberson is a great teacher! Sure, she's liberal, opinionated, etc., but if you dont want to hear about inequality, don't take a Soc class, dude. She's enthusiastic about the subject and is quite fair. Loves discussions. Highly recommend!
shes alright but is very biased about what she thinks is true but is very into teaching soc which is good. She sucks at grading papers though because she tells you what you did wrong but not why it was wrong which made the papers the hardest part of the class
Very interesting class, I enjoyed it. You need to study for the tests and she pulls questions from the book so you can't ignore reading, but it's easy to keep up with.
I could not stand this woman, I felt like she was teaching to a class who already had a backround in this subject. She was repetitive and I barely learned anything.
I liked her. She was interesting and funny, which made the class time fly by.
Favorite teacher so far!! I actually wanted to come to class every day. Her lectures were very coherent and interesting. She makes you think. She loves when you introduce yourself and talk to her. She's a hard grader on papers though. On tests all the answers are almost right... tricky. Don't buy the book. Take her class!!
If you're willing to pay attention, write down the notes that Roberta basically gives you, and re-read the notes a few times, the class, tests, and term paper are very easy. Roberta is very enthusiastic and engaging - the class really isnt that boring. Do yourself a favor and go talk to her during office hours, and participate in class, then she'
I really liked this class, Roberta makes it very interesting. The tests are not bad either, she gives you a study guide at the beginning of the quarter that tells you everything you need to know for all the tests and papers. She is a very good teacher, I definitely recommend her.
If you go to class, listen, and re-read the notes before test, you will do fine.
Very nice, Helpful. Very tough on grading on the term paper. Tests arn't easy. READ THE BOOK. ignore someones comment on don't buy the book. you need to read it, alot of test questions are material not covered in notes or lecture. I wanted to go to class everyday, very fun, but you have to work hard. (bought the book but used older edition)
I loved her! Interesting class. I highly recommend going to her office hours. 2 test and 1 term paper and they're not too hard. If you have to take SOC 101, take it with Roberta!!
Dr. Roberson is very nice and I really enjoyed her class. She keeps your attention pretty well, I was rarely bored in her class. She also shows some good movies, which mixes things up from daily lectures.
Soc 101 with her was extremely interesting and fun. She was never boring, always drew interest, and always had cool activities and videos to show. The only bad thing I could say is that she didn't always make key concepts very clear because she would get so caught up talking to the class about hot topics, but it's still an easy class.
Professor Roberson was interesting and knowledgeable of sociology. Her tests aren't all that hard, and you're allowed to have a flashcard of notes for every exam. Interesting movies and topics, and she incorporates a lot of the outisde world into discussions. You do have to write a 3 page paper though!
Although I didn't particularly care for Roberta's personality, she was clear in her lectures, and her tests contained no suprises. Attend class on a regular basis, and you'll do fine.
I loved Roberta really cool person. As a teacher she is very "in your face" which can come off as rude but she is just passionate about what she teaches. She lets you use a index card on all the exams so the test are easy. There is a also a paper which is pretty challenging.
Her passion for sociology actually got me interested and now I'm considering majoring in it. If you're taking soc 101, make an effort to get her. If you read the chapters, the tests are cake. She typically lets you out early and it's just a really interesting class.
Roberta is freaking awesome! Take her class. She is smart and so into sociology that it makes everyone actually pay attention. Also, she just has a rocking personality and sense of humor.
Roberta is very enthusiastic about this class. She is a genuine person and she cares about her students. You can tell she really enjoys teaching. All I have to say is READ THE BOOK. The tests are pretty hard, but just pay attention, read the book, and you'll be fine
Roberta is an enthusiastic, boring at times, at not really into class discussions, which is hwat I was expecting from a sociology class, but a nice lady. Pretty easy class, tests are a lot easier when you READ THE BOOK!
I thought Roberson was a nice lady at the beginning of the course, but not helpful to students at all. She was very rude to me when I met with her after class one day. I would not take soc with her, I heard there are many more easier soc classes than hers. She wants her students to fail.
Roberta's a good teacher and a nice person. She lets her students know exactly what she expects and her lectures are clear. I didn't really end up liking the course, but her personality and teaching style made it better.
Very interesting class, and you can tell she is enthusiastic about the subject. I liked her and thought she was very funny, but she could be kind of harsh. I had to read the material, but the slides and going to class was very helpful. We also got to use a notecard on the exams. Great class. She's great.
Roberta is a fantastic teacher, and I hope to have her again. She is enthusiastic and cares about her students. Tests aren't bad if you read the chapter reviews and study your notes. I highly recommend her.
She is a bit extreme and over the top at times, but the class was not very difficult. Go to class and read the book. Average experience.
Very interesting woman to listen to. The lectures are very thought provoking. The textbook, however is extremely liberal and it barely tries to conceal that fact. Study guides helped a ton.
Fun to listen to. Good lectures... not much book use in class. Sociology may not be my thing.
Roberta is very friendly and passionate about sociology. The class does require some thought and reading the book! Attendance isn't mandatory but her lectures are interesting, so you might as well go. Get about a 94 and you are exempt from the final. Also lets you use an index card on tests.
Dr. Roberson was a really great professor. She made the issues very interesting, and her lectures were very straightforward. I would highly recommend her.
The best. Take her... she's interested in her students and will sit with you for hours and just chat. Fantastic professor, fantastic woman.
Absolutely loved her! She is very fun to listen to, and her lectures kept my attention. Class was at 9 AM everyday in Bentley, but it was worth the walk up Morton hill. Not mandatory to go to class, but she clarifies everything in class about the test. Amazing lady, and very intelligent. Favorite teacher I've had so far at OU :)
Roberta is a wonderful professor! She is so passionate about sociology and does an excellent job of teaching it. She makes the class interesting and uses great examples. Attendance is not mandatory, but she does randomly take attendance. If you have good attendance and are between grades she will bump you up. I would definitely recommend her!
Helpful when you needed questions answered. A bit of extra credit here and there was nice. I got out of taking the final for having a good grade.
Roberta rocks! I learned so much in this class. Probably more than I have ever learned in a class before and the information pertains to our lives which is cool. Take her class!
Roberta is awesome.
Best teacher ever! I had questions and she would explain the answers in depth either in class or out. She is very approachable. She gives great examples for all of her lessons and she is very passionate about what she teaches so you will be interested!
I did not like her at all. I wish I would've taken Sociology with a different professor.
Roberta is super hard. She never covered any material from the book and was a tough grader on the papers.
She's a nice lady. However, her class was really tough for a 101 intro.
Waaaaaaaaaaay too hard for an intro to Sociology course. She grades super hard on papers, i got my paper back to redo it and she just gave me a vague list of things that might be wrong with it to return for grading the next day, after she had the paper for 3 weeks...I'd just suggest not taking her. HAPPY SCHEDULING!
Plain and simple, Roberta is a feminist and not open minded. The tests were definitely challenging and I had a hard time connecting her lectures to the text material. I got out of her class with a B somehow. She often rants about stuff too. I don't recommend taking her for Sociology 101
She really fun the first week or so then after you take her first test you're in shock at how little you know because she doesn't connect anything from class to the test. The class is hard for an intro to soc and I would try to fins someone else.
I thought for a fact i would have been able to use this class as a GPA booster seeing that it is an intro to SOC class, although it ended up being my lowest grade. Her lectures do not match up to any of the tests. You will be in complete shock when handed the exam
It is a tougher intro class, but she makes up for it by having easier writing assignment that aren't full papers but you still get to show all of your ideas. The movies you watch in class are great an informative.
This class is not a gpa booster. Roberta Roberson "berta" as she calls herself is a hard ass. she is a great teacher but you have to apply yourself or you wont do well. there are only a few exams and papers that count as grades throughout the class. Overall i finished with a B+ in the class. it was interesting but certainly no walk in the park.
If you go to class everyday, the material will make sense. If you come to class on certain days, you might get bonus points. Sometimes the material was a bit vague... but if you ask for clarification, then Roberta will do a nice job helping you out. Just make sure you do the reading.
Pretty easy class
One of my favorite teachers in college. She is great, knowledgeable, and makes class fun to attend.
Just go to class and study; the usual mantra. She's passionate about Sociology and is very approachable. There are only three exam grades and the final, but she does give extra credit here and there to help you out. Attendance isn't mandatory, but she does take it every now and then. Actually read the book; it helps tie her lectures together.
If the goal of 1010/1000 classes is to get you interested in that certain field, Prof Roberson absolutely failed. Each class felt like a punishment for being a white male, and there was certainly a large amount of soapboxing related to the current election. If you are looking for a useful 1010/1000 course, try philosophy or economics.
Roberta is one of my favorite professors. She is really passionate about sociology, and wants really wants her students to learn from what she has to say. She doesn't post notes on BB so going to class is vital if you want to do well. Not the easiest class, but she is willing to help you if you're willing to ask!
Roberta is not a bad professor. Her tests are pretty tough, though. Most of the test questions are from the textbook. The book is also very vague.. She allows a few extra credit opportunities. She keeps the class is very interesting.
Talk about a professor that cares about what she teaches! Take the time to read the chapters and always participate in her class. Test are simple if you read the chapters! Also take the time to introduce yourself in her office hours. I actually went and talked to her outside of class about more than class content. Still my fav prof. to this day.
Roberta is one of the best professors on campus. Her intelligence and access to resources makes her an invaluable asset to your academic career. She is also a very chill, funny, laid-back lady so she is fun to work with.
She can be kind of rude and the class is pretty boring sometimes but if you pay attention and do the readings it's pretty easy.
Roberta is one of the nicest teachers I had freshman year. Her class isn't overly difficult, just put in the effort and GO to office hours. She is super helpful. Her personality shows her passion for teaching, and her methods are unique, which I loved. I would highly recommend getting to know her, wonderful woman.
Shes a great teacher and very enthusiastic and knowledgeable in her field.
She is a great professor. GO TO OFFICE HOURS. Review notes before tests. If you miss class she will not give you the notes and you WILL need them to do well on tests. I highly recommend her.
She loves when you go to office hours so if you ever need help just go she would be more than willing to help you, but you have to ask for it. If you are taking the class with a friend just split the cost of the textbook and share, you really don't need it, other than some of it. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED BY REALITY.
Roberta definitely cares about what she's teaching so just by going to office hours and having her explain things helps big time for the exams. The grades are mostly exams however she gives a lot of extra credit opportunities and if you average a 94 in the class you don't have to take the final, making it that much easier.
Grade is made up of 3 50 q multiple choice tests, easy if you go to class or get the notes from a friend. Note card is allowed on test and very helpful. Book is helpful because she sometimes doesnt go over all the definitions in class. Take advantage of the extra credit opportunities. Overall I learned a lot from Roberta, very interesting class
This was an easy class, and all you needed to do was study for the tests and you would get a good grade. Also, she let you use a note card on all of the exams and the final exam. I really enjoyed her as a teacher and I will definitely try to have her again.
Roberta is a great professor. Her PowerPoints and verbal lecturing are both very easy to follow. She lets you know what on the PowerPoints to write down and what not to. She lets you use a notecard on exams. At the end of the semester, if you have an A and no absences (she checks sometimes), you don't have to take the final. I used my book to study
I really liked Roberta. She knows her stuff and makes everything clear. I bought the book and barely used it. She gives a lot of extra credit opportunity and lets you bring a notecard to exams. If you get A's on all midterms you can get exempt from the final. I would definitely recommend her. Not a lot of work. Go to class, she takes attendance.
She's a cool professor. She does take random attendance, usually Fridays or days where the weather is bad. She'll send out the notes from the week at the end of the week. Read her syllabus or you won't get a study guide or hints to help you pass. She stresses this fact a lot too! You can also bring a cheat sheet to each exam! DON'T BUY TEXTBOOK!
She could be very helpful but had a tendency to get preachy and get too involved in her own beliefs, but she is a decent professor, just watch out for trick questions on the test
LOVE Professor Roberson, she is extremely helpful and there for her students, so understanding and awesome.
She is a great professor! Her tests can be difficult but she lets you use a note sheet, so come prepared. I loved this class a lot! When I completely bombed one of my tests she took the time to go over my whole test in her office hours (and during finals week!). She is both helpful and funny. Take this class, you won't regret it!
She gives really good lectures. Be prepared for tests
Roberta is a great teacher, tough but really fun.
I never went to class except for test days. She gives you study guides for the tests on the syllabus, so if you just study out of the book, you'll be fine.
Roberta is a really funny lady who is clearly passionate about what she teaches. She takes random attendance so I would recommend attending her lectures especially on bad weather days. There is not really any homework so make sure you study for exams if you want a good grade. Extra credit is occasionally given if you attend class.
She is such a great professor! The material was pretty basic so I didn't have a tough time, but she made it interesting and engaging. She gives great examples. Most of the test information is available through the text so you don't need to go to class but it's encouraged.
Roberta knows most of the students in this class are non-soc majors, so she provides great real world examples go drive her points home. Exams can be tough, but she gives you a study guide for each one. The book is a GREAT help because she takes questions straight from the chapter reviews. Offers extra credit throughout the semester!
Great professor! Many test questions come from the book so the textbook is required and the only way to get the class notes is by going to class. Willing to help anytime it is needed.
Good professor, but you have to show up to get the most out of the class. You will still pass if you don't go to class. Very detailed lectures and she goes through sides quickly, so it's sometimes hard to keep up with notes. Random sign in sheets for attendance, but overall a good class.
The professor is an amazing person, its just the lectures are pointless.. the way she teaches is hard to explain, so you have to really be paying attention. Attendance is not mandatory but when she notices people are showing up, she'll start taking attendance. There is NO homework, except 3 exams.. that is literally all. So DO well on the exams.
Not a good professor, very difficult professor I would not recommend taking her classes. You only have 3 exams so you have to do well on them to pass. Her lectures are very boring, she never gets straight to the point and repeats herself more than she should.
roberta was really interesting to have. however no homework or work besides studying for exams. two extra credit quizzes all year nothing else. study hard or listen to lectures intensely or you will prob do bad on exams like me
She does assign a text book but you don't need it. An older professor but she is funny with the things she says and does. (at least for my semester) she had some light purple streaks in her hair and you can tell that she is a total hippie chick. I did find her laugh a little distracting and she says "right?" a lot. She will help if you ask.
In lecture al the topics are discussed and she makes sure that you have a decent grasp on the info before she moves on. She does like to talk a lot.
If youve ever seen the movie Accepted with Justin Long and Jonah Hill, Roberta is Professor Lewis. Seems a little crazy but she knows what shes talking about.
Roberta is a very passionate professor, which made it easy for me to pay attention to the lecture. She doesn't post her lecture slides online, so if you miss class I would make a friend who can send you the notes. Her exams are a lot of application questions, little questions about definitions. If you put in medium effort, you should do fine!
Great professor. She gives lots of extra credit to make sure you pass. Exams are kind of tough, but do-able. Lecture heavy and little grades other than tests. Willing to do what it takes for you to pass.
Tests are difficult, unless you study and attend lectures. She's nice if you go in during office hours and participate, also gives a lot of extra credit opportunities.
She only gives three exams which are the main grades but gives extra credit opportunities that will boost your grade. If you dont come to class to get notes, youre screwed.
GO TO CLASS. if you don't, you will fail. Attendance is not mandatory, but the lectures are only in class and not posted online. Exams can be pretty difficult, but Roberta wants all of her students to succeed, and if you go in to her office hours she will help you no matter what. Very reachable outside of class. Such an amazing prof and person <3
There is little to no homework. You have to go to basically every class to understand what is going on and the only grades you would get would be test.
Roberta is one of the best professors at OU in my opinion. She made me change my major to soc because of her passion and how she presented the material. A bit of a hardass if you arent doing what is expected of you, and shes also very blunt. But if you actually try and are respectful shes got your back.
Roberta was amazing and did her best to really teach the material, this being said READ THE TEXTBOOK. I didn't do that and struggled but if you put in the required amount of work which really isn't that much, you'll be fine. Also, attendance isn't mandatory but she definitely takes attendance and it can influence your grade. I highly recommend her
I took this class my first semester and ended up with an A in the course. People don't like Roberta because she expects you to come to class and read the book. The exams are easy if you look at the notes and study guides and she takes attendance randomly that can boost your grade up!
Roberta is a hoot! She's quirky, and obviously very passionate about the subject. Definitely be aware of the tests - there are two midterms, and I found that the first one relied more on the textbook rather than her study guide from the syllabus.
Roberta has a love for teaching and a love for her students. If you show up to class and take notes you will pass. There is basically no homework. Plenty of extra credit opportunities. She is EXTREMELY approachable and is always open to talking to you after class. Loved this class. If you have to take SOC1000 TAKE IT WITH HER!!!!
Fantastic lecturer, but still need to read!! a lot of the material on her exams are from the book and she doesnt mention them in class!
Even with the class being online, she was always available and there is a lot of readings but if you manage your time effectively, the class is easy. She was always welcoming and understanding. If you take SOC 1000, you want Roberta.
I did not like her teaching style. She only did one live class (review Q&A) per test, and the only grades (besides EC) are the tests. She gives a lot of resources that aren't helpful. My advice if you have to take her is to write down anything she writes down, and study that the most.
On one hand, it is nice not to have weekly assignments but to only have 3 tests worth a total of 300 points in the class makes the tests have loads of pressure. There is weekly extra credit but its lots of work for limited points with very deep material. Tests are worded to match the text directly so get the book. Felt very uninvolved with class.
