Awesome teacher, awesome class. Fairly easy and fun. Very social lady.

She was crazy and a real stickler about time limits
I dislike this teacher. She is unorganized and gets boring really fast. She likes outlines so much that each lecture is the same format.

if you wanna pay the school to work your ass off and still barely scrape by then she's your chick... grade doesnt reflect effort or preformance. she expects perfection. she failed 1/2 my class on first speech. just say no.

Very nice teacher! Made class extremely interesting/ easy to pay attention to, even at 8 in the morning...my favorite class all semester
Worst teacher I have ever had!! She failed almost the whole class! She thinks every speech should be perfect. If you get her, DROP THE CLASS!
She's really nice and willing to help you- she answers her email ALL the time. The class in general is hard, and I've heard of harder teachers, so unless you don't want to work at all, she's a good teacher.
She is very difficult to win over so if you are used to teachers likeing you this will be a slap in the face.If you do get her, don't be fooled by how nice she is in the beginning because it is fake! She hates greeks so watch out!Regardless of how good your speech is if she doesn'tlikethetopic,u fail
This class is a pain... because no one enjoys it. She can be hard at times... but has a good heart. Just show up to class and to all your speeches. Get on her good side and you'll do fine!
She is a fair teacher. The ones in my class who didn't do well were either dumb or stubborn. She doesn't hate greeks either. I'm greek and she was always really nice to me. She grades hard but fair. Show up to class. Practice your speeches a lot beforehand. Study for tests. She'll help if you ask.
DO NOT take her!!! she is awful. she is very inconsistent with her grading. first she says make your outlines by the style manual, then she takes points off your work and tells you no you use your workbook. you can never satisy her. she will always find a way around things b/c,"Com115's departmental"
STAY AWAY!dont take her!!She is not qualified, doesnt even have Ph.D! Knows nothing about P.S.Very inconsistant w/grading. Picked worse speaker in class 4 showcase! You can never please her. Very rude.Worst teacher I have ever had.her excuse is always com is "departmental" not consistant in anything.
DROP THIS CLASS IF YOU GET HER!!! if she doesnt like your speech topic or dont know anything about it she will fail you no matter how good your speech is. She is very inconsistant in her grading. She will tell you one thing to do, then grade you the opposite. Horrible teacher!!!
She is a hag...if you want to work everyday, want to make bad grades because of little things you miss, want to be accused of cheating when you didn't, want to be in a just plain old unfair class, take this class...but if not DO NOT TAKE IT!...
she sucks! she aproved my speech topic and said it was gonna be a good one. when I got my grade it wasn't great. she wrote that my topic was an odd topic! I have no idea why she approved it and then scored me way down beacause of something she approved! This was very unfair..especially for the first speech! also..she picks favorites....it's annoyin
I think she's good. Department determines most of the content of these courses, so teachers are bound. Ms. R. helped me each time I asked, plus she's funny.
Been there! hard course, but really great instructor. do the work, ask questions...she's VERY organized. I say yes to this choice.
I agree, a bit of a hag and very unfair. Also very ignorant. If you want to do a speech topic that actually has depth, find a different teacher because she'll just say your topic is "irrelvant", when it's obvious she has no idea what shes talking about. Very unfair grader too.
I think she is a good teacher. If you pay attention in her class, do the work, and turn it in on time then you will be fine in her class. She is very organized and willing to help if you meet with her. Pick her she is a good teacher.
This is a relatively difficult class. You really have to work hard and if you don't understand something make sure you ask her about it because if you don't you're going to kill your grade. Good luck.
She is very full of herself, she takes very little in-class time to be helpful and answer questions, and to quote her "If you get an 'f' it's not my deal, I have my degree."
Liked this teacher, she liked our class too, so that might have helped. Do very well on your first speech and you will be graded likewise on your other speeches. Do your homework too. Not all that difficult, I got a B. Show that you are actually working too. She is helpful if you have a question. I would recommend. :)
This is a very hard course and she can be a little strict at times. However, if you do the work, you should be fine.
The class is not hard, if you take it with another teacher! She grades VERY tough. I saw the work my friends did and I would have aced their classes with no problems...I worked realllly hard in this class and got on her good side. Dont miss class and work hard and she will notice! Still, take it with someone else if at all possible!!
I loved this instructor. She was very nice and always well organized. She isn't one of those teachers who is scatter brained at all. she knows exactly what she wants to accomplish every class and never runs out of time. She was also funny and easy to joke with. The class is a little difficult but you'll be ok if you prepare well for speeches!
she has got to be the hardest grading speech professor I have heard. The average grade for most speeches, are a 70%. I was lucky and got a B, on the 3rd speech, though the average of the class was a D. Just don't take her, there are plenty of actually good teachers around, she's not worth the stress.
GOOD HELPFUL TEACHER who grades on a students progress. GO TO CLASS especially during speeches even if not speaking. Tests are entirely from text lectures are short.
Totally awesome and helpful. Motherly teacher.
Started off really poorly in this class. Got Cs on nearly all my speeches. Once I showed her that I wanted to do well on my speech though, she warmed up to me a lot. Ended up getting an A on my final speech. Tests aren't bad either because you have a reference card. Makes some rude, but funny, remarks.
Very good professor. Very organized. If you do bad on the speeches its okay b/c there are so many easy points if you always go to class. The tests are easy b/c you get a notecard. Don't slack off. Make sure she knows you're trying and you will be fine. I really liked her, I don't know why she has some bad ratings.
Mrs. Rowe is a very nice person who is always glad to help you when you ask, but she grades extremely hard. You have to be pretty good at speaking just to get a B on a speech. She's a great teacher, but I would look at other classes first due to the fact that it's near impossible to get an A in the class
Lovely woman! She is VERY helpful, clear with her directions, and well organized! She grades kind of hard, but she gives you very clear directions on what to do if you want an A, and if you follow them, you'll get them! She's always willing to help if you just ask, and she's SO nice! This was my favorite class that semester!
Good instructor and fair. She's always motivated for class. Make sure that you do all of the work and show up for class. If you do poorly on a few things you might get stuck with a B like me, so work hard.
This women is the devil. Run fast if you have the misfortune of having her. I'm serious- DROP this lady like she's hot. Terrible teacher and totally unwilling to help you. She also grades really hard. Worst teacher I've ever had in my life.
Mrs. Rowe not only knew a lot about public speaking but she taught fairly and was overall pleasant to be around. She let out early almost every day and graded fairly. let us make our own quizes and brought us candy!
This teacher is cool. I read people's comments on here "The average was a 70%" well, Einstien that is AVERAGE, welcome to college. She let you know exactly how to make an A and if you took advantage of her help you would make a high grade. The tests were tough, but you had to work your butt off for the tests. Slackers shouldn't complain.
A fairly good college intro class. Since she's a COM professor, that's where the emphasis was. You WILL need to read your textbook for the quizzes and for the final exam if you want to get a good grade (and seriously, who wants to fail their IDS class?). Fairly lenient if she knows you're actually trying (she let me redo a speech when I choked).
Inconsistent and continually insulting. Tests easy to pass as she allows cheat sheets, but she shows favoritism. She answers e-mails, but usually makes sure ship slips in an insult before signing her name. She does not lecture, but reads to us from an overhead - she claims her bad teaching is what she is told to do by her boss.
I can read the textbook and pass the tests. She treats us like second graders.
Unfortunately, she models poor teaching only reaching the learning literacy of someone who can gain knowledge by being read to off of overheads. She shows favoritism among her graduate assistants even going so far as to talk secretly with some about others. Truly unprofessional and unethical.
I thought Mrs.Rowe was an excellent teacher and she explained everything thoroughly. Of course she has no tolerance for students who are just in school because they have nothing else to do and since its a college class she treats her students like adults not babies who need to be cuddled. If you put in the effort you will get the grade.
Dont take COM 115 with this old lady, she is very moody and grades according to your relationship with her. She is not funny, dumb, and stubborn
notice all of her positive qualities were way back in 05 or later before she hit menopause
Strongly advise dropping the class if already enrolled, there are plenty of actual quality Com teachers. Take the class if you enjoy favoritism
This teacher shows favoritism. There was a girl that was sick for one week and when she came back she was allowed to do her speech TWO weeks after everyone else. This teacher is not recommended unless you enjoy favoritism and a teacher that is extremely moody.
Like others wrote, she favors certain students above others. She also graded my speeches horribly. This was the most unfair class I have ever taken. I had a 3.67 GPA last semester. A 'C' for this class. BULL
Good professor, tough grader. Ask for help, set up meetings, and she'll help you get right on track. Not too challenging, but it is speech so I dreaded speeches.
I. Hate. This. Teacher.
Does show favoritism. Grades speeches really hard, I got a C on my first speech, but I thought I did really good. You record speeches, watch them and provide feedback, but I still didn't see why I got a C. I hate speaking in front of people, so I dreaded the class, but there are only 4 speeches. If you live through those, the rest is pretty easy.
Very hard grader. One of my hardest classes so far and I am in the honors college. Learned a lot about public speaking but I would try to take another professor if possible. Only 4 speeches but they are graded ridiculously. Maybe one or two people in the class would get A's on each speech.
Despite what most people say I really enjoyed Mrs. Rowe, she was a tough grader but she was always very clear on assignments and always made class interesting. Class is almost always mandatory because she does occasionally give quizzes and participation points. Overall a decent class but I would suggest taking a different professor if possible
I began the semester with a positive attitude about Mrs. Rowe but at the end I couldn't stand her.She attempts to be funny. She is a hard grader. Is not understanding of absences or missed work (even in emergencies) and she has favorties. Overall I did not enjoy her as a teacher and would recommend her to anyone else.
I do not like this teacher because if you miss a class for any reason you will lose points like crazy. she has quizzes frequently and this class is just a hastle. Find another teacher.
I think she is very clear on what she wants, and she has high expectations of her students. She is willing to work with students out side of class. She is friendly and wants her students to do well. Plus the speeches are only a portion of your grade. Although for her class you do need to attend otherwise you will lose some easy points.
She is very clear on what she wants done, but she gives PLENTY of notice to assignments and due dates. She is always willing to work with students outside of the classroom. She's a picky grader, but like I mentioned before, she is clear on what she asks for. One of my favorite profs! Really made this subject fascinating! I definitely recommend her!
I do not like this professor at all. She grades your speeches so hard, even the first speech, it's like she expects you to be professionals. Her quizzes are so meticulous and annoying. She also tries to make jokes all the time that aren't funny and she films your speeches! It's awful. I would advise taking ANY other teacher if possible.
If I were you I would never take a class with ms Rowe. I was very condescending and rude through an assignment that she graded and in person as well. I had to talk to the dept head about the insults that she said towards me such as insulting my intelligence and basically telling me I'm an idiot for a minor grammatical error.
Do not take Ms. Rowe if you don't have to. She makes rude unneeded comments and makes you feel stupid for little things. She expects WAY too much from this low of a class. I tried making an appointment with her to talk about my grade on my speech and she refused to. FIND ANOTHER TEACHER.
This teacher is pure evil. She treats you like you are stupid. She makes fun of every single student in her class. GET OUT OF THIS CLASS WHILE YOU STILL HAVE THE CHANCE!!!!!!!!!!!! She is a rude sarcastic teacher who is awful at teaching and helping her students in need! Seriously, GET OUT!!!!!!
At first I did not like her at all but to this day she is my favorite professor. She is tough and can be scary but it's worth it. Class is interesting and interactive and you'll get a good grade as long as you stay up to date and go to class! She can be intimidating at first but stick with her, she's worth it.
She was very mean and doesn't care at all. However, it was a semi easy class just do what you're told and you'll be fine.
Clear but tough. Follow her guidelines exactly, and you'll be fine. Her grading is tough and speech dress requirement is rather formal. One warning, though; don't have your cell phone out in class. She was merciless to a classmate who made the mistake of being caught twice. I learned a lot, and would take her again even though she is tough.
LOVE Professor Rowe! If you are nice and actually try in her class, she is an absolute blast. She makes you feel comfortable with the course material and gives fair grades! She really cares about her students and has the best stories. Make sure to ask her about her studies of the Native American Tribes’ story-telling. Such a cool person!
This teacher was easily the WORST professor I have ever had!!! She is AWFUL and MEAN and RUDE to her students!!!!! She is very disrespectful to every one of her students, and she makes sure to insult at LEAST one of her students every day!!! This professor is AWFUL, and the fact that she is still teaching SHOCKS ME!! Drop out IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!
The worst professor I have ever had. She was rude and very unfair. She gave me failing grades on two of my speeches and I did not deserve that grade at all. If you show up to class without your homework completed she will just make you leave class for the day and doesn't give you any chance to make up the homework. GET OUT NOW!
Good teacher. Will help you if you need it. Will spring quizzes on you but if you save them those are the questions on you final. They work as a study guide. I learned a lot. A lot of in class points. You can't skip too many classes.
Mrs. Rowe is beneficial if you are on the edge of a grade, but that is it. I have never been so frustrated because of an instructor before. I will NEVER take a class with her again and recommend that you don't either. When she had left the room for evaluations, we discovered the whole class had a bad time with her. She is very unreliable.
Took her for speech. She required assignments to be turned in through email. She lost emails and had separate times for when assignments were due. She was a hot mess. She was also very strict in grading the speeches.
Honestly if you show up and "try" you shouldn't have an issue in her class. I took her for Nonverbal Communication. Speeches were easy and she was very easy to get along with. The people who said she was rude to everyone in the class I have no clue what they are talking about. I don't think this lady has a mean bone in her body.
Worst class I have ever taken. She is very tough on her grading. She takes participation points every class period. If you mess up one little thing on your speech, she's docking off twenty or so points. She is a very unfair grader.
I liked Ms Rowe's assignments because they were really specific so you didn't have to choose from a broad range of topics. I didn't think the class was very hard but she commented on my outfits more than she ever talked about the content of my speeches. I don't really like her but she's not the worst teacher I could have taken.
NO TESTS DURING THE SEMESTER! We had a quiz on Black Board for each chapter, but you can use your book and do well. You have to go to class or you'd miss a lot of points. She thinks she is funny, but her humor is kind of offensive and off-putting. Weirdly specific for some things grading-wise, but isn't that bad overall. Isn't a terrible teacher.
If you follow her instructions, which are very clearly written, you should have no problem getting a good grade in her class. Reasonable workload. Speeches were fun. Not sure why everyone here is giving such bad reviews. I'm guessing most are just doing so because they're unable to receive constructive criticism well.
Mrs. Rowe is an absolute peach. Yes, her humor is very sarcastic; however, she is very funny once you get to know her a little better. Be prepared to read, because she expects you to learn some of the content on your own. Overall, the class is an easy A as long as you show up to class, follow her directions, and stay on top of the weekly quizzes.
By far one of best professors I've ever had! She keeps class interesting and based off RMP, I expected to hate her, but after taking her, I was shocked! Be prepared to have a lot of fun from an interesting and great lady!
Overall, easy class to take. I will say she doesn't read people very well sometimes, and is harsh when she doesn't need to be. She's very clear-cut with her assignments, which was nice. At times, I felt like I was teaching myself the information more than she was teaching it.
Very pleasant to work with. This class was basically an intro do the COM dept. as a whole, but she was always willing to answer questions about things. Very clear with how she wanted assignments done. As long as you show up and do your assignments correctly, you'll do great!
Robyn is a great teacher. She has some sass to her, but once you understand it, she is the sweetest. Assignments aren't hard at all, and the quizzes don't match lecture or the readings, so that's annoying. But, overall really enjoyed this class.
This class was extremely frustrating. Underneath it all, she is not a good instructor or person in general. She was a facilitator more than a professor. She assigned busy work, outside lectures to watch, and online quizzes pulled from the textbook. Her grading was confusing - major and minor assignments had point values not equal to work put in.
Don't ask her any questions because all she is going to tell you is to look at blackboard. The only problem is not everything you need to know actually exists on blackboard. Expect multiple quizzes a week but you'll never know if the labels are going to match the chapter or if it will even be over the chapter you were assigned.
confused because at the beginning of the semester she was my favorite teacher and then after a bit she was much lower on the list. This subject is very interesting, don't get me wrong. She knows her stuff. She is a really tough grader and if you don't like public speaking, there is a ton of it. Lots of group work too. She can be sweet and funny too
You have to be in the class or you won't pass, you get 5 points every day just for being there. You have quizes on every chapter of the book as that is her way to get you to read the book. Read the book of you won't pass midterm and final. Very clear on speech grading expectations
Mrs. Rowe is by far the worst professor I've taken at Missouri State. The first day she seemed nice enough, but under her smile is this passive anger that is taken out by harsh grading and unnecessary comments. She generalizes students and also acts like the class is discussion based, but if anyone disagrees with her she cuts them off. Do not take!
By far the worst professor I have ever taken. Her grading is unclear, will give you a grading rubric, but uses a different one when grading. I have never received anything below a 95% on a speech before, until this class. She doesn't take pts off for the speech itself but gives reasons like "smiled during odd time" Be ready for A LOT of homework
If you ever have questions about the class, don't bother to ask, she will either tell you she is too busy, or direct you to somewhere else to find the information. Within the first two weeks she had typos on my grades, which is fine and understandable, but was rude when I pointed them out, like I was making her go out of her way to fix them.
At the beginning of the course she says "speech grades will not be discussed" well after my third speech and feeling like I was being graded unfairly, I discussed. She actually ended up agreeing with me but responded with "it wasn't a big point deduction" I feel like all points matter, and my grade should have been changed. Overall awful professor
Her humor is a little hard to get used to for a teacher, but I honestly thought her sarcasm was pretty funny after a bit. I learned a lot in this class, and I'd take her again. Show up and participate in the discussions, and you'll do fine.
If you're easily offended, don't take her. She is stern, and can be rude and sassy at times. I think she is an excellent professor though. I learned a lot in her classes. I had her for COM315 and COM325. She isn't the kindest when it comes to asking questions via email, and can make you feel stupid at times. I enjoyed her classes despite all this.
I took COM325 online. Its SO easy. As long as you do the work each week, you will pass! I never even bought the book and ended with an A.
Took the online class. You just read chapters and do quizzes. Don't take her class if you want to do anything other than read the crappy textbook.
Can be very rude! If you see this side of her, ignore it and move on. Decent class
Mrs. Rowe is an awesome instructor, one of the best I've had at MSU! I took her advanced public speaking class online and it was a great experience! You do 3 main speeches, some smaller speeches and a job interview with the Career Center via Skype. Do the work and follow instructions! She has great lectures. GoReact helps you connect to classmates.
She's so passive aggressive sometimes it physically hurts. Other than that, she's a great teacher. Very knowledgeable and gives engaging lectures. She does like to make people the center of attention unexpectedly, so watch out if you're socially anxious like me. Zero tolerance on late work is annoying. DON'T forget even one online quiz.
There is a lot of reading and points available. It is very easy to contact the professor via email. I was a few points shy of getting an A in the class and she bumped me up just as a kind gesture.
If you want a teacher that has any empathy for her students and their lives, especially in a pandemic, do not take this professor. It doesn't matter what the degree of the drama in your life is, it does not matter at all to her. I would put zero/zero If I could.
Dr. Rowe's nonverbal class was very insightful and an easy A. All I had to do was complete weekly quizzes, reflection papers over the lecture, and a few tests. All open note and open book. Great class!
