Talks around the subject instead of telling you what you need to know for the tests. Tests are irrelevant to the homework. Homework is beyond what he teaches in class so you can hardly do it.

Nice guy, a brilliant guy, easy grader, but terrible lecturer for a lower division class. He has a strong accent and does little to make the material understandable. Good stories are a perk.

Let's just say he has a pretty thick accent, and it's very easy to tune him out especially at 8am. He's a smart guy, but it's really hard to understand what he was talking about. Make sure your TA helps to explain what's going on for you.

took him for biochemistry...wow, his accent is really thick. Bad teacher. The 2nd midterm was the hardest midterm I have taken. But the good thing is his curve is awesome.

Only went to class 6 times and got a B. You gotta teach this stuff to yourself. He curves up the ying-yang and puts old questions on the final and if you get them, he'll give you back missed points from the midterms. TAs were awesome.

I'd have to agree that he is an awsome/brilliant guy but as a teacher--not so helpful. I'd love to talk to him about his research and stuff (he schmoozed w Einstein's son and Linus Pauling and taught at ucsf). You need to rd the text/teach yrself tho.

When they said heavy accent they meant barely comprehensible. One things fshure tho, he taught me how to fall asleep under in 5 min. If you have him, make use of his TAs, and STUDY OLD MIDTERMS, cause they're similar

I like his class. He doesn't make anything more complicated than it should. His drawback would be that his practice midterms and real midterms aren't too related. So read the book.

If you know chemistry before this class, you are fine. If not, pray the curve gods are nice. I stopped attending class because I found it easier to comprehend information online. Read the book, in class he just reads it to you.

Nice old guy, but very incoherent during lecture. It gets really annoying the way he jumps around the topics...i think his mind works faster than he can speak so his lectures become very confusing and VERY BORING!!! content of class is interesting though

Very nice man. Seems like he wants to be a good teacher. Probably would be if it weren't for the cursed quarter system. Going to class is useless; I survived by reading the book and utilizing TAs' willingness to help. Tests are hard and nothing like the practice tests or homework. Curve will boost your grade.

This professor is a very nice man. He knows a lot about chem, and is very excited to teach it...BUT he is a HORRIBLE teacher. I feel bad because no one goes to his lectures. You rely solely on the textbook, and he does not teach you anything. Test are nothing like practice exams. lec notes are pictures from the book, he curves, but you learn nada

He is too smart for his own good. Very nice man, but go to the book for all the learning. Incomprehensible in lectures, but you can tell his enthusiasm for the subject. His priority is in his students and there is a big curve at the end. My suggestions just read the book and you'll be fine. The practice exams were easy if you read the book.

The man is a genius.. he got he PhD from Berkeley! Super smart guy, but he doesn't know how to present the material. Chemistry is hard for certain people and he did not help with the clarity of it at all. The textbook wasn't that great, but I was attached to it all quarter. There was a huge curve at the end. Got a solid B.

Super nice old man, but really the worst lecturer I've ever had. He's almost completely incomprehensible, and I relied pretty much solely on the book. However, the curve is amazing in this class, I got 66% on both midterms and I ended up with an A- in the class.

His accent is definitely noticeable, but not as thick as some claim (unless I have magical ears and don't realize it). I spent $x on a clicker that we almost never used for extra credit that never applied to my grade. Apparently he doesn't give A+'s, even if you have over 100% of the uncurved points available (not considering extra credit). Decent.

Has a slight accent but it's more entertaining than incomprehensible. Uploads all his notes online and it's pretty easy to learn from the book instead of lecture. Tests can be hard but he curves a lot.

From the beginning Bogo seemed like a really nice guy. You can tell he loves chemistry and is very smart (he taught us how to make ice for free!). However this class as a whole was terribly disorganized. I had a horrible TA and as cool as Bogo is, he shouldn't be a teacher. Its not his thing. I relied heavily on my tutor.

His class is incredibly easy due to his curves. I barely went to lecture and I only got like 60-70% of the points on the midterms, but I still got an A- because I read the book and did the practice exams. He uses some of the problems from the practice exams and old exams on the final. He's nice, but you just have to learn on your own!

Bogomolni is cool, but he has a slight accent. I just studied from the book and got a B+. He curves at the end also so it's not really hard to pass.

The class isn't exactly easy but if you follow all his directions and you put in the time he says you should it is fine. Be sure to come to lecture and pay attention because he practically gives away points on his exams if you listen. Like every class it depends on a good TA so don't accept a bad one. Give the professor feedback on TA performance.

Although Bogo is better than Anderson (in the chem1c course), he cares more about passing his students rather than how well he teaches his class. Most students who've taken this course agree that his lectures aren't well organized and how he lectures on new material leaves a lot of things unclear. Make sure you have a good TA, exams are poorly made

Take this class with Randa! Along with Anderson, Bogomolni is one of the worst chem profs in the chem department, enough said!

Bogo is the sweetest man! He cracks jokes about sheep wearing sun glasses, but you have to pay attention (not sleep/ditch) to him to catch them. I was below the curve on both midterms, but he worked with me during extra office hrs to help me get a B in the class. He's incredibly intelligent and approachable.

Prof. Bogo is helpful, wants u to pass, his lectures are somewhat useful because he teaches out of a different book than your zumdahl chem book. He can go off on one of his anecdotes, which is funny b/c he turns red and laughs about it. Class is easy to pass. Go to discussion and class, he throws in random Q's about chem 1B stuff.

Bogo deserves much higher marks here then he has been given! He is a great teacher but you definitely have to pay attention to catch it all. You will have to study, but Bogo is the most approachable professor I have ever had and he will help you in a heartbeat. He is a very smart and nice man. Don't worry about the accent, you get used to it.

I agree with the previous rater; Professor Bogomolni deserves much better ratings than he has been given. His class may be easy to pass, but it was pleasantly challenging to excel in, due to his rigorous exams. The course seemed designed to be very difficult to score high in without relying on the curve--an approach I'm particularly fond of.

Bogomolni deserves much higher marks than is given credit. He is such a kind hearted man who wants all his students to do well. He is extremely approachable, friendly, and actually listens and respects his students. Tests aren't too difficult for he gives you accurately representative practice ones. If given the choice, take his class

He's tests are pretty hard, but he curves so much that you're guaranteed to pass- he says that if you can understand one problem then you can pass the class. Very nice, but his lectures are pretty boring; they're just power points and then he talks about them in a thick accent. Do the HW for test prep.

Bogo is amazing! He's really funny, and he's passionate about chemistry. His hw can be hard, so make sure to attend section regularly. For the most part, his tests are fair, and the curves are even fairer. He wants you to pass, so he'll curve a lot. Also, if you're in danger of failing he'll contact you and offer help

Bogo is still one of my favorite professors at UCSC. He will go off on a lot of rants about side-information, which some students don't like, but if you want to learn material beyond the book Bogo is the guy for you. Study the assigned homework and get help at office hours. You will learn A LOT. Hard tests, but with an enormous curve at the end.

A professor who was truly passionate about the course material. A bit boring at times, as he likes to go off on random tangents. Extremely helpful and always willing to help his students. He is SUPER nice and approachable. His tests are hard but if you do the homework and go to section, you'll do fine. There's also a HUGE curve at the end.

JUST READ THE BOOK! No matter what class you are taking in college, you need to understand how YOU learn well. The professor just provides extra knowledge and helps audio(visual)learners. Professor Bogomolni is really passionate about chemistry and hs research. A great scientist. Humorous, helpful, and approachable.

An okay professor, has a very strong accent. Luckily not a problem for me. Tests are of average difficulty. If you take this class, you won't be challenged to an extreme level, but you will have a workload and studying to do.

He definitely does not deserve that low of a rating. He's not the best at lecturing, but overall a good professor and a genuinely nice guy. The workload/hw is reasonable and the tests are more or less straightforward if you study for them. Just read the book and study the review materials. There's also a nice curve at the end...pulled an A.

Bogo is very passionate about the material he teachers and genuinely cares about his students. However his lectures are very scattered and unorganized, when combined with his accent make him hard to follow. That being said, his tests are relatively easy (given you study) and only cover what he lectures on in class, and he curves generously.

Great person, but you can usually not get anything from the lectures. They can be a bit organized and his explanations may not always be very helpful, because his explanations aren't always exactly clear. he makes attendance mandatory through the use of clicker, which is something I found to be very unnecessary. Tests are relatively easy.

His lectures, though mandatory, are basically a giant waste of time. He is very very unclear about what he is teaching and his lectures make no sense whatsoever, even if you have read the book before hand. If you can learn something just from reading the book, take is class. If you're not that type of person I would say avoid him.

While his lectures do lack clarity at times, Bogo does a good job of covering concepts (Just make sure you also read the book on your own) and is incredibly knowledgeable about the field. All tests are pretty reasonable (Though they don't follow old exams very closely) and his curve is incredibly generous as well.

The most cheerful man I have ever met and he is really passionate about chemistry. I for one like when he takes time and explains the background behind each concept and how the said scientist(s) came up with it as opposed to just boringly telling us a concept and moving on. Curves up around 10-15%. Go to OH for a little boost on top of that too.

I tried going to his class, slept through the lecture. Just read the book. Got good score on midterm just by reading the book. He's knowledgeable, but don't count on his words to help you with studying =/

DONT TAKE WITH HIM hes accent is so deep i cant understand a word i didn't got to lecture after the first midterm because i couldn't even understand him. so i annotated the pages he assigned for reading and ended up with a B- but i had to teach myself

His accent is thick but he is a very sweet man. He cares about passing everyone! Chem isn't an easy class so read the textbook and do lots of practice problems and you should do fine on his tests. His tests are fair and the homework is stupid webassign!

Professor Bogomolni is brilliant, has worked with some of the great scientists of the 20th century (Linus Pauling anecdotes aplenty). I'm sure his research has made great contributions to science. That being said, he doesn't belong in a lecture hall. When will schools learn that brilliant researchers don't automatically equal brilliant teachers?

Professor Bogolomoni has a lot of enthusiasm for chemistry but is a very ineffective teacher. I enjoyed listening to his stories and seeing his face light up, but a large portion of time he was disorganized and all over the place.I stopped going to lecture halfway through the quarter, read the book and attended my ace section.I did great.

He isn't that clear. It's important to at least skim the textbook. But he curves a lot. The only reason you would not pass this class is if you don't put in the minimum effort.

Read the book and go to section. Going to class is a complete waste of time. Bogo doesn't teach. He just talks about his past and the history of chemistry. I didn't learn anything in lecture. The tests are difficult but if you study the old tests he posts then you'll do fine. Seriously. Just read the book.

Boo loves what he does and has extreme enthusiasm for the subject but he does not teach a lick of chemistry in his classes. I went every day thinking one day he might teach me someday; that never happened. He goes off on tangents of his past and his slides are impossible to read. I highly recommend reading the textbook and going to section!

I ended up doing very well, but for the majority of the quarter I was unsure of how I did. I was above the curve after the first midterm, but was below the curve 2nd midterm. I didn't bother attending lectures after the 1st midterm because I couldn't understand what Bogo was saying. However I went to MSI weekly, studied and did well on the final!

Although he has a rough accent and is sometimes hard to understand his class is great. He has a big curve at the end and if you study his past materials and go to MSi you should be good to go. Just study the book, go to lecture, MSI and U will Ace the class.

Chem 1B in general is not a hard class because it only covered 6 chapters. I took this class over the summer, and ended up with an A, despite getting a C on the first midterm. Bogo tries his best to be the best teacher he can be, but sadly, he fails to show us that. Just attend MSI or session to build up more confidence for his exams.

Basically if you have Chem 1B with Bogo, you're on your own. He tries his best to explain material during lecture but gets lost in explaining more advanced material or stories. Never really makes it clear what he wants you to know for the exam. If you wanna pass, go to MSI or section. The only good thing is that there is a huge curve at the end.

Be careful of his rule where it doesn't matter if you passed both midterm, but if you fail the final you fail the class. Definitely go to section and MSI or ACE that will really help you out, because you won't learn much in his class

You can tell bogo is a genius. He goes off tangent telling his life stories. Be ready to read and study on your own. Go to MSI or ACE for help. You may do great on both midterms, however if you fail the final, you fail the course. Good luck

The final was nothing like this practice one. He is a nice professor but hard to understand, therefore you have to do all the work yourself. He is easy to talk to but wont help you much when it comes to chemistry.

Bogo really makes the class yours to fail. Need a 50% overall&on the final to pass the class & he even lowered that spring quarter so more people could pass. Make sure you do the study guide, and make sure to at least skim the chapters the test is on. There's sometimes material on tests that are in the chapter but not hw, so read occasionally.

Bogo makes this class extremely easy to pass. If you cant get a 50 percent in this class (required to pass) than that is on you. Given he is not the most clear teacher, he is an extremely nice person and approachable. Go to your TA and MSI for extra help. Huge curve, ended with an A and definitely did not expect it.

You must go to class to pass. Don't expect to skip and get a good grade. But even when you go to class, sit in the front because you can't understand 50% of what he says, so you really gotta listen. Also READ!

Very long winded and unclear in lecture. Read the book, understand the web-assign, and go to MSISection and you'll be fine. Going to his lecture isn't necessary if you do this, BUT DON'T FALL BEHIND. There's a lot of memorization, so make sure you keep pace and don't end up cramming the day before an exam. Really nice guy always willing to help.

If you go to class and actually pay attention to his lectures you can pass easily. Don't go to class or don't pay attention? Don't expect to understand anything and prepare to struggle with reading the book to complete the homework. He's really a great guy and professor if you give some effort to understand him.

Sorry guys I just took Bogo's last course; he's officially retired. His lectures were beyond the scope of the course and lengthy so you didn't have to attend, but I did out of respect. He is probably one of the most fair graders in the whole school, and you can tell he is a genius. Definitely my favorite chemistry course ever taken!
