Got him for cell bio and let me tell you, he is awesome! Test are VERY FAIR! They are all based on the lecture slides. Not on the slide = not on the test simple. He lets you know that right off the bat! Labs are ok.... kinda a pain in the but cuz you need to do a report but they are easy marks none the less.

Very interesting course. Great teacher who says what he means. He is funny and has a very relaxed manner to his lectures (although he can be pretty stern too). Take his classes if you can.

Prof. Botelho should be in Biology since he is not a chemisty. Eithe way, i love the course and the way he taught. I hope I can take another course with him. Don't expect easy tests though but that's good because it keeps us students up and alert.

Great prof. Explains everything very clearly, and notes the things you should know (KNOW THEM!!!). Tests are only on the material he teaches in class (i.e. notes). So definitely come to his lectures!

I wasn't sure what tune he hums, but it ALWAYS makes me laugh. Really nice guy and very good prof. He would rather talk about South Park but he stops himself and talks about cell bio instead :)

I had Dr. Botelho for Biochem and cell bio. I can honestly say hes one of my fav. profs at ryerson. So down to earth and very considerate. His classes are amazing because whatever he teaches is exactly whats on his tests/exams. He prepares you well. He is indeed very cool to just go and have a talk with about random things. Your the best BOTELHO!

One of the best profs I've had at Ryerson! He knows his stuff and knows how to teach it just as well. He is fair and passionate in what he teaches. What he talks about during his lectures is exactly what he tests on, and the best part is he brings his own life experiences and love for the topic into the lecture hall. Take him if you get a chance

awesomee teacher ! this guy makes everything so easy ! even biochemistry ! good lord !you just have to come to class,cuz thats exactly what he tests u on. he is funny and makes this and (probably) any subject easy and enjoyable !

Excellent professor. All his exams are perfectly fair since they come only from his lectures. If you know your stuff, you can finish his mid terms in MAX half an hour. If not, try attending classes and stop complaining here for your lack of work. Take his course, go to class and you won't be disappointed.

Everything was amazing at cell bio. For biochem, most of the TA were killer but Botelho helped us with the fairness of the grading. Overall, he's a very helpful prof. Sometimes, I think he's too casual. I am definitely recommending this prof.

Excellent Professor and individual. And from what I hear, he is a great research supervisor as well.

Extremely good teacher and very nice person, but with a very good control of the class. I really like that he gives out his own surveys towards the end of the class as a method of getting our opinion and improving on his teaching and course. More Profs should do this! One of my favorites at Ryerson, if not my favorite. You're awesome Dr. B.

I had Dr. Botelho for both CHY 261 and BLG 311. He is an excellent teacher, if you go to class and take good notes and study hard you will be fine. His tests are sort of hard but very fair. What he teaches is what he tests you on. Best prof ever!! Would recommend taking his classes.

He Is a beautiful teacher, some may find him hard But he is the fairest and those who think that way are the ones that had trouble with studding and they reflect it on the proff, I recommend his class: cell signalling It's hard but I think this is a class for those who really want to learn something out of their undergrad

He is awesome! Some tips: 1) study the big concepts really well 2) don't focus on random info; he's big on concepts 3) be able to know each concept in the detail he explains it because he will expect you to know it on the test 4) definitely review past exams from friends

After years of different professors, he stands out to me as a rarity. He does his job better than most professors, and can take the most complex topic and make it understandable. He is such an amazing man that you will actually learn from walking away from his course :)

Amazing prof! VERY VERY clear at explaining the concepts. you HAVE to attend the lectures, because on the tests he expects you to answer the questions with the same crazy amount of detail as he explains things with. no textbook needed!

The evening section lectures were very enjoyable. You should read the Text chapters for extra understanding but he only tests lecture material. His exams are not easy but with good study techniques and planning one can do well (75% or higher). Memorization is not enough to ace the course. You need to understand concepts to do well on his exams.

Amazing Professor, Supervisor, and all around great guy. compassionate regarding student interest in course material, as well as developing student character and presentation skills. Great Professor. I really enjoyed his lectures and passion for cell biology. I don't think he is an easy Professor, but he was not brutal either in his expectations. I would say Dr. Botelho is clear and fair. I would take future classes by Dr. Botelho.

This is a prof who will ask an easy question as a short answer on an exam and expect a detailed, concise and NOT ambiguous answer. I studied harder for the first midterm than the second but changed the way i studied and ended up at a A from a C. I respect this prof. He is not easy, he is fair. His labs are not too difficult either. Work for it.

He is probably the fairest prof I have had at Ryerson. He is a phenomenal lecturer (has his moments where he goes a bit too fast, but he repeats what is essential) and gives you plenty of practice with end of chapter questions. You cannot beat around the bush with him though, his midterms are straightforward and fair.

He's quite specific in his grading criteria which can make/break your exam marks. If you miss any relevant details, even if you understand the concepts overall, you won't get full marks ie. you can come out of an exam thinking you did alright and realize later that it wasn't enough. Take very good notes in lecture (info on slides isn't enough)

Good lecturer, definitely a nice guy. I took a course that I thought would be very dense. His slides are literally everything you need. I never once opened the textbook (unless there were "suggested" readings) and I did fine. I went to all his lectures and studied for the midterm 20% 2 days before and 80% after, still killed it.

Gives good lectures. One of the only profs I've had thus far that actually cared to give some tips on study habits. You can tell that he is passionate about what he does. Attending lectures and taking notes are a must. I would take his class again.

Botelho is one of my favourite profs! His lectures are amazing because he makes it very easy to digest and understand (straight to the point). Students often criticize him for being strict on details for short answers, but he tells you specifically what he is looking for so there should be no complaints. Tests are fair and straightforward.

He's a pretty decent prof, I didn't like him at first but he grew on me. I was expecting him to be a really hard marker from what i read on here but he gives you hints on the exams for what specifically he is looking for. He gave bonus marks if people did the hw but forced people to share their answers in the lectures which was stressful.

Dr. Botelho's enthusiasm for teaching and biology is contagious. Made me want to learn more about cell biology. Cares very much for his students' success!

Basically pay real close attention to what he says. He drops major hints on what's gonna be on the tests. Overall very easy course. Would recommend. Labs are disorganized.

Dr. Botehlo can seem intimidating and he can talk a bit fast during lectures but you will get use to his teaching quick. He makes lectures fun and cell bio enjoyable. He is very detailed oriented especially on tests, but he tells you exactly what he expects in your answers! Do not miss lectures! He's really passionate about his research too.

Either take really good notes in class or record lectures as they are really dense. Textbook isnt necessary if you keep up with lecture with exception of the self reading sections. Exams were fair and gave bonus points for completed end chapter questions.

He is a pretty amazing professor compared to most. He makes you work for your mark, his marking may seem unfair at first, but I came to realize that it made me work harder and be more accurate in terms of answering questions. His lectures are well delivered, sometimes goes off track (not a bad thing). Overall, I really enjoyed his class.

Dr. Botelho is a very intimidating prof. Sometimes I was scared to be in his class, but honestly if you actually go to his office hours and sit down with him he is easy to speak to. In terms of testing, you NEED to know specific key words or else you will do bad. Make sure you attend lectures and take good notes, that is key to this course.

Botelho had lectures I really enjoyed going to. He's passionate about his subject and did a good job of engaging students. Slides are really bare bone though, so take good lecture notes to know what's important. He'll make you put in the work but I actually learned and it easily payed off. Definitely one of my favorite profs and funny too.

Amazing lecturer and very passionate about his work. Cares deeply for students and even gives bonus marks for doing end of chapter questions. Speaks very fast though, so try sharing notes between friends or recording lectures to get everything. Exams are very fair and come straight from lecture and slides but study ahead of time bc content heavy.

Amazing preofessor and he actually teaches which is so rare nowadays with other profs. He knows the content so well so most of his slides are just pictures, but he gives you all the information you need to know to do well. His exams were mostly short answer and he wants very clear straight forward answers. He's an amazing prof and such a gem!

Professor Botelho is one of the best professors I have had. I did bad on the second midterm, but that was mostly because I did not study enough for it. He clearly hints things that he will put on the test. He is very funny and his lectures are engaging and fun. You can never get bored in his class. Overall a great professor.

unlike many other professors, he does not read over the slides. he actually teaches and explains all concepts carefully and repeats everything a few times to make sure you understood. I also love his sense of humour. defiantly one of the most amazing professors I have ever had.

This prof is one of THE best I have ever had at TMU. I didn't have an overall rating for him in 411 (much heavier and it was online) but he has made Immunology such an enjoyable course for me! The assignments are a bit difficult but with effort, it's not too bad. Tests are very straight forward if you attend the lectures. I highly recommend him!

Botelho is an amazing prof. Even though he is teaching immunology for the first time, his lectures are engaging and informative. He also gives assignments based on critical skills you'll use after graduation, and his tests are straightforward if you go to the class. He also puts questions from the midterm on the final & gives bonus marks. 10/10.

GOAT. Take a course with him if you can, he is one of the best.

Monday (2h) + Thursday (1h) lectures. Midterm (30%) + Final (45%) + assignments (25%). Botelho has good lectures that you should attend. His exams are content heavy - you need to know most of the slides in detail. They are mostly short answer. Study throughout the semester (ideally) because you can't possibly cram the course the night before.

Nice lectures very engaging but lots of content SO STUDY!! Had 3 article assignments; okay but could be better. Tests and exams are very fair, everything is taught in class. The exam was harder in terms of multiple-choice questions. But overall, great prof that puts effort into his lecture and is also funny so that's plus. Take him and STUDY! GL :)

Botelho is a very great professor. I think if you go to class, take notes, and actually study then you will do well. He always hints on what questions he will put on tests/ types of questions we could be asked. Overall great professor who is also a great person and he's also very understanding.

He deserves the 5 star rating. Cares about his students and essentially makes them enjoy the topics he lectures about. For his first time teaching BLG856, he did a wonderful job. Assessments were all fair and interesting, and lectures were pretty humourous at times. Overall a stellar job done by a professor who's passionate about what he does.

Dr. Botelho is really great at explaining things, and sometimes skips content to make the workload easier for students. Though, him and his TAs are really specific about grading and its really hard to get full marks on his written questions. Also be ready to study for mostly long answer questions. Other then that he is really kind caring prof.

He can be intimidating at first, but is a big softie over time! Only prof I've had at university who has made such a huge effort to get to know his students... a professor actually learned my name!?! His tests can be challenging, but nothing unexpected or unfair. His office hours really help if you are struggling :)

Very smart prof that knows the content thoroughly AND can explain it very easily. Tests are easy and no surprises but you *must* use specific words. Labs are light. Very easy going and helpful to students. Must attend lecture (no online recordings) but the lecture is comparable enough to the textbook (class is better though). GEFs SWAP GDP w/ GTP!!

My favourite professor so far. He's very knowledgable and will explain everything very well, letting you know what the really important information is. I struggle with testing and this class is graded JUST on tests but I was able to safely pass because of the way he teaches. Hoping to have him for BLG856 :)

Seems a little intimidating at first but as you get to know him he is more chill. He is great at explaining and lecturing and knows what he is talking about and makes things seem less complex. This course requires a lot of memorizing, and you cannot neglect it or else it will catch up to you. Exams are very fair as long as you study. Great prof

I really enjoyed Dr.Boetelho, his lectures were amazing and I fully understood everything in class. I went for office hours religiously and asked him questions or even just listened to what others in the class had to say. I would say he is very specific when it comes to terminology and when answering questions certain words and phrases are required

Dr. Botelho is incredibly articulate at explaining course content - you can tell that he's passionate and cares about us students by simply talking to him once. The grading on the tests/exam are rather nitpicky and require evincing miniscule details, but get better by each test as you get more familiar with the criteria. Masterclass of teaching.

Dr. Botelho is an amazing Professor because he teaches in a way that shows he cares for cell biology and for his students. He throws in jokes, group discussion, and gives bonus points if the class completes practice questions and discusses these in class. Tests were fair, though the written answers does require you to explain concepts well.

Amazing professor. Honestly, I'll take any course if he's teaching. His lectures are super interesting and you can tell he's really passionate about what he teaches. Gives bonus marks for participation. However, for this course, the TAs SUCK. #ihateyall

I literally did not take this course last year because I heard a rumour Goatelho would be teaching it this year. No regrets. Goatelho is my hero.

Graded by 3 assignments (papers + questions), 1 midterm (late in sem so content heavy) and 1 cumulative final. Marking schemes are very specific (+ some hard TAs) so make sure to recognize nuances. Go to classes as all the content you need to succeed is taught in lecture! He is funny so you won't get bored. Office hours are also extremely helpful.

Dr. Botelho is a great professor! He clearly knows his stuff and is able to teach it well. The one downside is that his tests can be a little tricky and lengthy, but nothing unfair as long as you attend lectures and study the content well.

He's amazing and I loved his lectures so much. There is a lot of content but it is manageable if you study regularly. The prof also gives bonus marks out, which was very helpful. The marking scheme used for assignments/tests was very specific so it was very easy to lose marks from little mistakes but even then, this was one of my fav classes!

He's really nice and knows what he's talking about. Attendance is 100% necessary cause his slides are pretty much only images but he explains it pretty well. Unfortunately, there's sooo much content on every slide that it gets rlly confusing. While studying for the midterms, I took lots of breaks and went on walks, praying I'd get hit by a car.

My fav professor! He teaches so well and repeats things multiple times that some of the concepts just stick in your head. Attendance is mandatory if you want to do well; slides have more pictures than words, but he explains perfectly in class. Rushed the end of the semester b/c he fell behind, which was a bit stressful. Wish he posted lecture recording like antonescu so you can go back and review content after lectures. He refuses to

Absolutely amazing professor. He is very passionate about what he teaches. It's not mandatory to go to his classes but if you want to pass with a good mark, you MUST go and make sure your notes are detailed! His tests aren't difficult if you study efficiently - ensure you know everything really well and how they work like a puzzle. Don't memorize!

Love Botelho, he's definitely one of the very few engaging profs I've had at TMU and really tries to drive concepts into your brain. That being said, he has HIGHLY SPECIFIC marking schemes and TAs that take away marks even when they match the answer key. You will get dogged.

Dr Botelho is very enthusiastic, great at teaching, and cares about students developing skills. But respectfully, he needs to accept that students can know content without matching his exact marking scheme. It is easy to lose a lot marks on assignments due to this pickiness. He was kind enough to offer bonus points in class, though.

This is for Botelhos TA's: you are not getting into med school any time soon, with 5+ years as a TA you are expired, give the rest of us a chance and stop marking the assignments so hard, we don't have PHD's like you. Botelho please teach your kindness to them.

Dr botelho is a nice guy but his course is flawed. Unrealistic assignments with bad TAs. Some people get 100s for writing less information/correctiveness and others who write more receive less marks. He says you need to do the assignments to “learn how to struggle” but in reality no matter how hard you try you won't get perfect.
