Highly motivating and encouraging. Fun, laid back, and informative class. He's friendly and approachable. He's very positive and his projects are fun too. He's extremly fair when it come to gradeing. Overall it was an engoyable class.

Lacarra is a very cool down to earth teacher. He is very passionate in what he does. One of the many few teachers that you will find that is willing to help his students out in order for them to educate themselves. If you want to take chicano studies Lacarra is your man.

Nice guy. He talks one day which you take notes on then you see a film which you take notes on, and the tests are based on that. It's not bad for a history class, but you need to show up, or you can miss out on info needed for tests.

Easy teacher! He accepts unlimited extra credit so all his students will gaurantee to pass. All we did in class was watch videos. You hardly ever have to show up to class and it doesn't matter how bad you do on tests b/c he grades on effort.

Excellent class! Has students work in groups which makes the class fun and we learn more. Better than listening to Lopez's boring lectures. We actually learn how to do research and obtain the knowledge of the Chicano narrative. Most of you lames don't get it, so don't take him.

horrible teacher, he makes the students teach the class by making power points and he makes you buy two books that you will never use for tests. the tests are essays he makes you write about what was on the power point.

NOT as easy as he used to be. Now he gives many, many tests and even though they are take home, they can be quite excruciating. He no longer gives everyone an A, these days, you're gonna have to really work for it. But its still a good class and you do learn a lot.

Professor La Carra is an excellent teacher. If you want to get an"A" in his class you have to work very hard. This is not an easy class. You have to do Power Point presentations, and write essays about 10 Pgs. long. You'll learn a lot. Professor La Carra is still a cool teacher!

Had to do 3 tests, major powerpoint, go to a field trip and do all the work questions in the book but fairly easy, got an A.

Professor LaCarra meets with every student before he gives them a grade. There is no way you can do no work and get an A. Great learning experience...

LaCarra gives alot of work, but if you do everything you should get an A or B. In the class, we research, engage content, and he personally tells you how well you did. Very fair person and helpful.

I have to say, Mr. LaCarra might not be the hardest teacher and many students complain...but he does teach and is a very sweet person. You do have to make a presentation and some exams, but nothing to worry about. He is there to help but is up to you to pass the class.

Great teacher. You buy his books, just like any other class. Their are eight presentations "group" Presentations on different chicano time periods. You learn something from each one. Dr. LaCarra is very supportive, smart, and professional. A few others dislike him (other Chicano Professors who want full time jobs and who lack effort to seek a Ph.D.). This man is incredible, so lucky to have him at L.A. Valley College.

Let me set all of you straight about LaCarra. There is no one at LAVC who has his academic credentials and experience. He is 100% in your corner and makes the class alot of fun. Yes, he wants you to read, write, learn and most of all transfer to the university. He writes a book a year so don't hate on him for that...

Professor LaCarra is planning to transfer to counseling or a 4 your university so better take him January 2010. A very nice guy who really helps you learn alot. Listen to him he knows what he is talking about!

The books were interesting and mostly easy to read. Discussions were interesting, and even though the tests were all T/F it was really easy to remember the facts, despite it seeming like you weren't doing much. I learned a lot, and enjoyed it a lot more than I expected.

College was intimidating at first and had an idea of I may not last more than a semester, Dr Lacarra, gave me the confidence that we all could do anything that we set in mind... Love him and miss him. Hope to have him in my next Crj.. I am into my third semester. Thanks Dr. Lacarra .

Studies guides are helpful. Interesting man. Cares about his students and offers great guidance. He can be lazy when it comes to lecture but had good conversations. He is very honest and wants you to do well.
