she is awesome lecture is a little fuzzy but lab she is the best ive ever had
good teacher
Can you say flower child..the outfits this ladt wears look like she picked them out while stoned...come on this is college..I don't nnedd to keep a coloring book..she's NUTS!
Mean, rude, & down right bizarre!
Hard to take notes and NOT A FUN TEACHER AT ALL! NOT FUNNY!!!
hard tests, bad notes. she tries to be funny, but shes just wasting our time. her labs are the worst, an electornic portfolio, no thanks! i went to see her during office hours and she wasn't even there! take the class w/ nosek or alfieri instead
if you're going to take this class, i recommend you take it with nosek. richardson is just some hippy tree hugger. and she thinks she is really funny and writes jokes to herself in her notes that you dont understand when you are trying to study for test
Just plain crazy.
she is hilarious....she is very helpful...and makes lab fun....
JUST PLAIN CRAZY.. simple as that, the tests are totally odd and the notes u take in class are the worst possible, she makes jokes that only make her seem half retarded, and good luck EVER finding her office...
Her lexture is very boring.
She's not that bad, she actually goes really slow with all the notes she writes on her new overhead called "elmo" hehe.
the length of time between tests is too far. To much material is covered for each test.
weird personality, but still gets info across. hard tests on a lot of material. be prepared to study or cheat to get a grade above a B.
she's a crazy lady with a weird personality, but if you like spiders, you'll be her friend (you'll see what i mean). her tests are fine, did good on them. but the lab notebook she makes you do IS STRAIGHT OUTTA HELL.... i'm still damaged....
I found that she went through the material very well, and at a good pace. You have to study for the test to get a good grade in that class, but this is college, and that should be expected.
sux big time. i thot i was in the class to learn biology but in the first test the professor asks 'what kind of nose did darwin have?' thats stupid. believe me, u wont learn a thing, her classes are boring and her jokes make herself laugh.
She has WEIRD humor. Her lectures are long and boring, but that's to be expected in biology. Her tests were pretty difficult. I pulled C's everytime with 5-10 minutes of studying. She's OK.
lectures are for students in middle school, the lab notebook is for a damn professional
good teacher--knows her stuff. crazy as hell though. makes stupid jokes, but tests come straight from the notes (which are not on the web - you hafta come every lecture to get the notes) few quizzes, pretty easy class if you can get thorugh her crazyness
I thought she covered the material well and I had no problems on the tests with about 20 min. of studying. She does make some weird jokes though.
Crazy professor but she's entertaining. Pay attention in class and the tests aren't that bad. One warning, lab notebook is a lot of work but if you keep up with the labs on a regular basis, the class won't be very hard.
She is a very interesting and funny professor, but she doesn't teach things very clearly. In her lectures, she has you take down unnecessary notes, draw "interesting" pictures, and then she wants you to take a test on tons of information.
she is the best teacher EVER, and very fun! just relax and let her teach you. listen to what she talks about, her tests are a bit goofy but she talks about everything that's on them (even if it's darwin's nose) all her classes are easy A's.
She is funny and bizarre, but very smart. She makes lectures interesting by incorporating historical information into them. Just do the work and show up for class, it's not that difficult. I received an A in 242 and it was one of my favorite classes.
crazyb flower child....I think she wants us to learn..but I left my crayons home......she has her favorites for sure
Best teacher I have ever had. Tons of fun and teaches well. All you have to do is pay attention and keep notes on her drawings and you will do fine. A little tougher in upper level classes but she is more fun in them.
Tests are kind of random, but pretty easy. She's a lot of fun, and she makes it easy to remember things with her funny stories. Sometimes I feel like the class is dumbed down for us, but I think a lot of ecology is pretty obvious anyways.
really easy class, easy homework, endless extra credit oppurtunities, and is a real funny easy teacher. Very helpful if needed
Dr. R is a wonderful, helpful person. Took both 312 and 242 with her and she helped out with anything and explains things well. Very creative. Would highly recommend her compared to others if you want to take 242 or 312. Interesting and smart too. If you're taking 242, keep up with the lab notebook.
Dr. Richardson is a great teacher who is funny and strange. She is very helpful and likes teaching people. She can be disorganized and sometimes unclear, but doing the work and going to class allows for a good grade. Everything about her is funny; even down to her bug print clothing.
OMG, NO! Do NOT take her. She is very unclear and is very disorganized. She makes you spend a lot of time out of lab in lab. She doesn't even know where things are in lab. I'm suprised she can find the classroom everyday. She is like an ADD kid on speed. She is INSANE!
She is so nice!! She helps you understand things. Sure the labs are long, but they're very interesting. Her lectures are awesome- so much better than Berg. She goes off on a tangent all the time and it's hilarious. Her tests aren't too hard and she gives E.C.! Awesome!
LOVE HER!!! show up for lecture and you'll get A's on the test. Lab is a little tougher on the other hand, but she just wants kids to get interested. She's got some funny stories!
Very disorganized, a lot of time in lab outside of normal class hours. Three different lab groups going on. Lecture is wonderful though and interesting. Great stories.
this class was fun and easy... she is a little weird.... but hey it keeps you interested in the class... I had fun in it ;)
Demands a lot of time out of class but has good and interesting lectures, also very helpful
Dr. Richardson is awesome!!! She is disorganized and a little on the weird side, but she's fun and very interesting to listen to! Great stories...I would definitely recommend her!
Really easy class, but she's a kook!
Awesome teacher! Study the notes an show up to lecture and your good to go. Keep up with lab notebook and you'll be fine. Very unorganized and weird but definite good person, helpful an gives a lot of extra credit!
You need to book for 3 assignments, other wise there is no need to read the book. Tests are pretty easy. Not hard to get an A.
I've had Richardson before and I love her...her teaching style is a bit awkward at first, but once you get used to it the class is a cake walk. She's awesome...take her any chance you get!
Let's just call this the Robin Richardson studies. Sometimes I had to remind myself we were in ecology class. She talks to us like we are in elementary school. easy tests and I would not buy the book. waste of money and more confusing!
I think that she is a prof who really cares about the students that she teaches. I know that she may have a teaching style that is not the best for everyone, and generally the books are unnecessary for class. But, overall a great influence in a biologists educational career.
What a joke. Lab is a mess and useless. Just fake it all, she can't tell the difference. High school at best. You won't learn much, but at least its easy.
Hated her. She expects way too much time out of class. Ten hous spent on lab projects a week. Thats a part-time job for a college freshman! And thats just for one class. Besides the fact that she is off the wall she rambles in lecture and is one of those teachers that tries to hard to be funny. Not helpful in lab, she left the room most of the time
the class was so unorganized that it was almost impossible to get a sense of how you were doing. the lab notebook is ridiculous, so is the expectation to successfully grow and measure (several times)40 plants. overall, good intentions, impossible expectations.
Material is random, she is unorganized, likes color too much, teaches as if we are little kids. Her exams have questions that arent about class material. Her grading on exams is also messed up.Not helpful in labs, often disappears when you need her. Her classes have potential to be good classes but she ruins them.
Richardson is a lil crazy, but thats what gets you through lecture. The class is mostly based on lab; there are 3 lab projects going on at once. Tests are okay, but there are questions on random material that you hear once. Lots of extra credit. The class is do-able but you are pretty much stuck with her if shes the only 242 prof.
I had her for Principles of Bio, Ecology and Animal Behavaior I suggest that you find someone else and avoid her at all cost. Pulls test points, grading, and notes all out of thing air. Half the time I had no idea what is goin on. She is high on something and it isn't the good stuff.
she sucks as a teacher. Don't take her if you don't have to. If you do, don't buy the book, she doesn't use it. Go to class to get the notes she doesn't use powerpoint and doesn't post her notes.
I found her quite nice, interesting, and funny. I would recommend her.
This teacher is easy if you come to lecture and get the notes. She doesn't use the book at all so don't waste your money. She tells lame jokes and then laughs at them herself. She also thinks that it's funny to mispronounce words. The tests are so easy and there is a ton of extra credit.
Maybe it is only because I had her for general bio, but I found her lectures easy to follow, and the tests decent. The book was a complete waste of money, she didn't use it once. She has a really lame sense of humor and can't spell, but that doesn't really matter.
Flat out wierd lady. Dont buy the book! Biggest waste of money ever. And dont expect her to know how to spell very well.
The lectures can be tough to follow as she goes very far off track from relevant topics. She spends way too much time on the unrelated topics and just a little time on what is important to biology. She can be a little quirky, but gives a lot of opportunities to acquire extra credit, which makes up the gap for the class being poorly taught.
well if you like to get your nose dirty you are good to go...but if you have any dignity...don't take it...and if you do take it remember to bring crayons...
I loved Dr. Richardson.....She had so much knowledge and her sense of humor is what made me want to go to the class every MWF. Her spelling is awful, so don't base your opinion on that, and I loved using colored pencils!!!!!!!!!!
Fun teacher, she can be a little weird sometimes, but its funny. The class is very confusing at the start-espectially the labs, but you understand it more after a few weeks. Fun class and the labs are really fun and interesting. Tests can be pretty hard, but study the notes and read the chapters in the book and USE COLOR PENCILS!!
Clearly, she is not for non-biology majors. If you are a major, don't mind a bit of disorganization, and like to be entertained by a knowledgeable lady, take any class with Dr. Richardson. She knows a lot and you can learn a lot of you wish to. Her classes are for people who like to make connections in learning rather than just memorizing facts.
This class is not easy. Don't take it and think you can slack off, the lab notebooks are horrible, you never know what you actually need in them and all the lab professors tell you something different. She likes to tell stories in class, which tend to be really funny, and she gave us extra credit one day for coming to class. Not bad teacher.
great prof. go to class and take the notes. there is a lot of lab work, but its not hard just a lot of drawing
She is really entertaining. I HATED her in the beginning of the semester because it seemed like a ton of work for one class. and it is but its just giving you more points for an easier earned grade. Take notes!! and make them clear to you..not just what she writes on the board. Her tests can be a little tricky so study your notes!!!
Horrible teacher. Very difficult class with a full schedule. Prof. Richardson is the most unorganized teacher I've ever had in my life. She never organizes her assignments or labs. Her website looks like my dog trying to type HTML. She blames everyone else for her neglagence, and her inability to prepare lab instructors and students for her class
This class seems like a lot of work, but if you pay attention and take notes, the tests will be easy. The labnotebook takes some word, but it's not actually *hard*. As long as you consistantly go to class and do the labs, you'll be fine
Richardson made this class fun, and she is really a nice lady! At first labs seemed rather confusing, but if you ask questions, you'll be fine! You do have to keep a lab notebook, but if you keep it up to date, you should have no problem! Don't forget to use colored pencils.. she loves those! Overall, rather enjoyed the class!
wow.. are we in second grade.. she is obsessed with coloring and drawings. take notes so you understand them not just what she writes.. labs are the most unorganized ever and lab professors were clueless.. try not to take her if possible
She loves colored pencils and has some goofy stories that make it somewhat entertaining to go to lecture. However she is extremely unorganized both in her labs and her lecture. You never where you will go next in her either. The lab notebook is huge as it accounts for nearly half of your grade. She offers a TON of extra credit--do it!!!
I am a senior, and she is HANDS down the WORST professor ever. Disorganized, irrelevant lectures. I had her for 242 and evolution, and somehow the first month of BOTH classes were spent on the same IRRELEVANT material...HISTORY!! She only likes the students who are willing to laugh at all her nutso jokes. STAY AWAY!
...its so hard not to sleep in here!
most of the lectures are about history of random scientists. tests arent bad.not really what i would call a biology class but its fairly easy so i wont complain!
Her notes are very very hard to follow....its like trying to read a rats nest...also she love colored pencils and she says its required to use them in your notes....DONT... do not follow what she say instead write down everything she says in your own words...her note taking sux!Do the extra credit...that is one thing i regret not doing!!!
Jumps around in her notes a lot, can be kind of hard to follow at times as she switches topics a lot. Don't need the book, no homework/papers/etc. Pay attention, show up, don't sit on your laptop the whole time and you will do fine.
Her morning class will lead you to sleep. Her note is difficult to follow. If you don't study for exams, you can't pass them. The system of the class is strict, but still fair. If you really want to study biology, just try to take it.
Nice woman, amusing too if you're smart.keep your lab notebook up to date or you will do poorly!Show up to class, she is easy to follow and usually entertaining, unless youre the type who sits and stares at their laptop. As far as labs go,listen to your instructor, not her, they're the ones that grade you, rosendahl is the easiest. Overall, fun class!!
Unorganized, which makes it hard to understand her at all. Her tests are all over the place. Weird professor, but she is entertaining at times.
She means well, but she's a little out there. Imagine Ms. Frizzle from the Magic School Bus on Ritalin. Her notes only make sense to her and test questions can and will be about ANYTHING. [Even something obscure she only mentioned once....like her cats] VERY EASY for lab though. Nice lady! If you already understand Biology, take her.
SUPER FRIENDLY. Very free-lance. She'll give you space to learn and grow. Wants you to figure things out for yourself. Lab is play time. She encourages exploration and doesn't expect perfection. TAKE FOR LAB!!
She is a bit weird at time.. and will come up with some good jocks somedays. Her test are hard only b.c she dosnt teach in a very clear way. Nice woman but you need to pay attention in her classes!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! total waste of time. Lab makes you feel like ur in middle school all over again. Atleast the lab counts for a lot because the tests make no sense. I'm actually trying to study for the final right now and have no idea what to study with since the notes she gives are absolutely horrible. Don't buy the book whatever u do
Ugh. This woman is NUTS! You have to literally write down every word she says in class and memorize it in order to get a good grade. She's very stubborn and manipulative, and tends to use some not very accurate "sources." She makes some of the coolest sounding classes well...horrible.
She gives a lot of extra credit that has nothing to do with the class. Do the extra credit you will need it after the tests. If you can avoid taking this class with her. She makes me want to fall asleep...
Thought this class would be awesome and interesting, but she sucked at teaching it. Debates are stupid, tests have nothing to do with the text book, so i wasted money on that, and she is ANNOYING as hell. Wish i had a different porfessor for this class.
Completely a joke her final makde up 45 percent of the final grade, and her tests are near impossible since they are based off nothing. She is manipulative and makes the class seem passible when in reality the last day she kills your grade and never sees you again
Pretty awful. Tries to be fun but she is a horrible teacher.
DEF. DO NOT BUY BOOK... you never use it and tests are only on lectures. Do all extra credit and show up to every class, she gives out extra points all the time. I failed every test in her class but still got a B, by going everyday and doing extra credit!
Awful, awful teacher. Her tests, as others have said, are based off of nothing. She will make a comment in passing during class, and then put it on the test while leaving out what we actually took notes on. Tests are nearly impossible to study for because of this. She's also quite "weird" and very annoying. No help outside of class.
A lot of busy work. The tests are confusing and have nothing to do with the text book or her class most of the time.
Robin is disorganized. Loves using the overhead and handwriting the notes. A sample test question: what would you be most likely to find in a ripe fig? and the answer would be: a dead female wasp. her finals are verbatim what previous test questions were. keep all graded assignments! easy class!
Robin is disorganized. Loves using the overhead and handwriting the notes. A sample test question: what would you be most likely to find in a ripe fig? and the answer would be: a dead female wasp. her finals are verbatim what previous test questions were. keep all graded assignments! easy class!
Worst professor Ive had in 3 years. Throws a million things @ you all at once, but provides NO DIRECTION or instructions on how to complete. Labs are POINTLESS and CONFUSING..provides NO direction! Lab Notebooks reminded me of middle school! Expects you to get a thousand things done in 2 hours. DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HER CLASSES! YOU WILL REGRET IT!
Disorganized and confusing. Lot of pointless work. My friend took the same class (BIO 242) with Rosenthall and said it was an interesting easy class with one simple lab a week. Our class is confusing, annoying and her 4 different labs are too much pointless time work for a 4 credit class. Take the class with someone else
Although everyone says she is terrible I personally thought she was really funny everyday. She made the class enjoyable and if you put effort into it you will atleast get a B if not better.
Professor Richardson is by far one of my favorite teachers. She makes up these insane words that are so much fun, and loves to go on rants about what ever she feels like. So long as you take notes easy A!
Dr. Richardson is a laid back professor. However, it's to the point that she doesn't grade her own assignments, or keep up her own website. She is not a reliable person and is very disorganized. Lectures and lab consist of drawing pictures; and you receive little direction. easy grade if you keep better track of your grade than she does.
teacher is completely useless
Very disorganized, expects students to be in lab 10+ hours a week, lots of useless busy work. Focuses on artwork instead of biology, not professional in presenting material. Ridiculous test questions. Notes are pointless because answers are from her stupid irrelevant 30 second stories. DO NOT TAKE!
Professor Richardson can be very disorganized at times..Make sure to take notes in her class her tests are directly from it and pay attention to the stories she tells. Lab is time consuming and she dosen't keep track of grades either. She is a nice person and has good intentions and you can tell she loves biology, but her class is A LOT of work.
Great prof for BIOL104! she uses different colors in her notes to categorize things, and simplifies notes. but sometimes she over simplifies and when you look back at your notes you forget what it means. i think in tougher classes she could be a problem because of this, but she was great in biol 104. uses lots of art projects, which i like!
She is extremely disorganized. Classes have NO structure. Lecture notes are confusing. She expects you to put in many hours outside of class and lab. Only way to do well is to GO TO CLASS. If you can, get Rosendahl for lab. He is boring but explains better and is easier grader.
I love Dr. Richardson! She is hilarious and made me appreciate learning. She is disorganized at times, but all you need to do is come to class and you will do fine. All she wants is to spark an interest in science! People who hate her probably didn't try hard or attend class. I even had her in lab and think she graded easier then Rosendahl!
This woman is one of the funniest people alive. Her tests are strictly off her notes. She uses colored pencils and as long as you pay attention to her hilarious lectures, you will do great in the class. Do not buy the book. You WILL NOT use it.
Dr. Richardson is an awesome professor! Her exams are strictly off her notes so you HAVE to attend class or you will not do well. Do not buy the book. Her lectures are very upbeat and funny! She gives like 50pts of extra credit! Absolutely reccomend her!!! :)
DO NOT BUY BOOK! Her lectures are great and she only has 3 tests each worth 100 points. And she offers over 70 points of extra credit.
She is a very kind and sweet teacher, however her notes are all over the place. When the class first started I did terrible on the first exam because I read the text instead of studying from the notes <DO NOT BUY THE BOOK> Study her notes, go to class and pay attention. It's an easy A and she offers lots of extra credit!
One of the worst teachers I have ever had. Myself and many classmates feel her lectures are pointless and follow almost NO direction. Her class has almost no structure. If it were not for her tests that come straight from her ill formed notes I would not attend. You could literally do this class by just reading the book and doing the assignments!
she's spunky and energetic. Makes the whole class laugh due to her quirkiness. She's leniant in grading. Need to attend her classes, don't need to read the book. Her tests are a bit odd but relates to the stories she tells in class. I reccomend her but if you take this class you will do poorly on tests unless you attend class.
She is a little scatter brained and if you like structured hand holding due dates, etc good luck. lol She is easy on grading and interesting teacher in lecture. but felt I didn't learn as much as I should have and she is not very available for extra help. Super nice though!I would take her again.
Dr. Richardson is very different than any professor I've had so far. She seems extremely unorganized. But, she runs her class on a sort of controlled chaos. But, don't panic. Just do what she says, write down everything she says, and study as much as you can for the tests. Her tests are entirely lecture based. And, whatever you do, do not procrastinate on anything and you'll be just fine. There is no reason why you shouldn't get and A in her class.
Don't waste your time, wait and take it from DeLong or Borsari or ANYone else. Richardson is really disorganized & spends a lot of class talking about herself instead of biology. You won't learn any biology.
Really disorganized, and demands supplies that aren't needed like colored pencils which are only used for note taking. Really boring and not that helpful outside of class. Most test have to do with the lectures, so thats the only reason to go.
Class is really boring, just go to all the labs and do the work in them, they're easy, never homework, easy class. Robin is nice and entertaining enough.
Attendance is uber important. If the lecture hall looks empty, she'll have you sign in for points or assign a pointless activity. Tests are based entirely on her insane banter. She teaches whatever she wants, don't worry about the book. Notes are copied from a giant screen and are based on disorganized diagrams. Doable, but not enjoyable.
Absolutely ridiculous and disorganized. lectures on the most pointless things imaginable, stay away from taking this class with Richardson if at all possible.
Very easy class to take, almost a joke but it can be enjoyable. Tests are on her notes only, so don't bother buying the book. Lab is different as most of it is independent/can be done besides lab time.
Couldn't stand the class. Instead of using easy to follow textbook diagrams she makes you do unclear ones with colored pencils that she draws. The class is disorganized. She isn't interesting. She doesn't teach the material correctly. The lab is a bunch of lame busy work. NOT recommended.
This was a "just to get a grade" type of class. I knew a lot of the material before this class.
I think I regressed to 4th grade. The lab was ok. But Biederman was great - and had to teach out of richardson's lab manual which was incomprehemsible. ugh.
An extremely disorganized class. I never knew what was going on, even though I went to class every day. The labs are just a ton of unnecessary work. I didn't learn a thing. The class is a joke a long with the professor. Do NOT take this class.
Do not buy the textbook - I have yet to pick it up and look at a single page. Her exams are entirely lecture-based. I've never met a more pretentious woman who think so little of her students, in my life. Lab has nothing to do with lecture. She feeds on children's tears and destroys their hopes and dreams.
The lecture notes are very confusing, arrows going everywhere and impossible to understand if you're copying someone's notes. Lab is kinda stressful but once you get it down it isn't that hard. Don't buy the book but study your notes well before the test. If you are there everyday and pay attention you should do well. She gives extra credit opp.
This is a terrible teacher that gives terrible lectures, terrible tests, and random pointless and lengthy homework.
Richardson is crazy, but I love her classes. Her teaching style took some definite getting used to, but once you do her lectures are fun and amusing. Take notes and review them for the exam and you'll get an easy A, plus her crazy examples help you remember things long term. She is the BEST. Don't need the book.
She is pretty out there, but can also be very down to earth. Tests are based primarily on discussion and lecture, with very minimal book usage. She's pretty easy to meet in office hours, and will help you out. Enjoys questions during class.
The class itself is BEYOND unorganized, but your grade comes from mainly lab. Lab can get stressful because it's also very unorganized, but as long as you go to lab, do all of the tedious labs, go to lecture (you can't use the book as back up because nothing she talks about is in there) you should be fine.
Do not take this professor. Arrogant and pretentious. Class work is random and has nothing to do with lab. Requires 10+ hours/week outside work. DO NOT TAKE HER.
The class was terrible! I mean she was so nice to answer your questions, let you turn in your work late but has to be within the due date, and willing to talk to you if you need help outside the class but the test and all projects were ridiculously super hard. REQUIRED 10++ IN LAB!! You have to pay a really good attention in every word she says.
This class is rough! Between the lectures and lab work plan to spend a lot of time on some pointless projects. I would not recommend this class.
Strolls into class with the swanker of false importance akin to the Queen of England. Talks as if everything she says is absolutely ground breaking and brilliant. Her lab structure is insane but she acts as if it’s God’s gift to humanity. Would not recommend.
Strolls into class with the swanker of false importance akin to the Queen of England. Talks as if everything she says is absolutely ground breaking and brilliant. Her lab structure is insane but she acts as if it is God's gift to humanity. Would not recommend.
She's confusing. The test is all base on her notes, there is no point of getting a textbook for class. She gets off topic a lot in lecture. She doesn't help during her office hours. Her teaching is all over the place and she is really random. Now she's a sweet person, but as a teacher shes awful.
She acts like this is your only class, and expects 200% effort and dedication. The labs are very unorganized, pointless, and take a ton of time. I was frustrated beyond belief, I seriously thought about transferring, and the workload made me cry more than once. I should've dropped it; the penalty is worth saving mental sanity. Never take her. Ever.
To save your GPA and time, if you really need this class, please take at another school. She never updates her D2l or website. It is really hard to follow. she's a lecture person and very unorganized. Lecture does not have anything to do with lab. She gave out test questions on random thing she talked in the lecture. Hardest class I have ever taken
I had Mrs. Richardson for 242 and, while I liked her personality and quirkiness in lecture, she had surprisingly difficult tests. By no means impossible, but difficult. I would take it again, but I would find someone who previously took the class and had the tests if I were you.
She does not use D2L, does not use the book, does not teach. She is a terrible teacher and often goes on rampages about topics that do not pertain to the class. Go to lecture all the time because the tests are based off of what she says in lecture, yes what she says. Her notes are hard to follow. Take over the summer or at a CC.
DO NOT TAKE unless you absolutely have to. Terrible Class. Terrible professor. You have to go to class in order to know what is going to be on the test. Tests are based on what SHE SAYS in lecture. Lab is half of your grade. WORST CLASS EVER! Super unorganized and just an overall terrible class
Don't buy a book, because it's not necessary. Everything on her tests are notes from her lectures. She gives out 3 tests and they are all very difficult. Her lectures are very random and sometimes they don't involve biology. Most Bio majors will have to take her class. You will end up passing, but your chances of getting an A are very slim.
Lectures are terrible and the labs are out of date. Tests are all on material she lectures about and items she may have briefly mentioned after class was dismissed. She writes all her notes on paper so they're unavailable to study unless you copy them down EXACTLY as she has them with her irrelevant side notes included. Would not recommend.
She's definitely a little odd, but it makes the class that much more fun. There's no book for the class currently so we read a lot of articles. We have journals for the class to keep track of everything we have done, and are assigned creative assessments compared to tests. She likes color so be prepared to have rainbows.
Dr. Richardson is a very unique character. But that's what makes her classes so much fun! I was always excited to go to class because you never knew what to expect. Very fun teacher, a little unorganized but has a fun teaching style. Would definitely take again
She's a really nice & quirky. Funny in her own ways & makes the class really understandable. No tests, quizzes, book - just little reading assignments from books you choose on the topic. Topics include obesity, aging, religion, gender, etc. Easy "assessments" at the end of each topic. Most people make posters. Great for Goal 3. She loves color!
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR FOR ANY CLASS OFFERED AT THIS UNIVERSITY. SHE IS BY FAR THE ABSOLUTE WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. SHE ACTS LIKE SHE IS THE GREATEST BEING TO WALK THIS EARTH. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO ORGANIZATION IN THIS CLASS, YET SHE HAS THE MOST UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS. TOO MUCH WORK FOR 4 CREDITS AND ENTRY LVL
I heard how horrible this class was before I took it, but thought it was just people complaining about it. The class is one of the worst I have taken. The material isn't hard, but it is the way the material is presented and tested that is difficult. She tests on trivial stories - so take notes. Lab is tons of busy work - including drawingcoloring.
Witty & sarcastic in lecture, entertaining to listen to. Different note style, but easy to catch on to and understand IF YOU GO TO CLASS. Always go, sometimes she gives out random E.C. to those who are present. Clear grading criteria, available for help if you ask. Only downfall really is she doesn't use D2L at all, so keep track of your own stuff
Do not bother getting the book, Dr. Richardson is definitely one of a kind and makes all of the lectures very interesting because you never know what she is going to say. All of the tests are the same from year to year - so if you know anyone who took the class ask them for their old tests and study them. More than likely its the same exact one.
You have to do 10 hours of community service for this class. As with any of Dr. Richardson's classes, she's crazy. But the class is doable. Reading the book can be beneficial, but often times it doesn't match up with her lectures.
Very funny and vibrant at 9 am her class was super nice we didn't have tests we showed learning through projects which was the best part of the class and I wish I could take another class from her because she is so interesting and funny. Be involved in class and communicate with her and you'll do just fine she is writing the textbook for this class
Very easy class. Anyone that does not pass, either did not show up to class or did not care. Take her if you have the option to. Don't buy any textbook for her class, she always says you need them, but it is not essential to get an A.
Ive had her for 3 classes now, and I love her. Just go to class and take notes. Her tests are only on the notes she gives you, so its easy to study. She's a very easy grader on assignments, and gives extra credit opportunities. She's done a lot of her own research, and is very knowledgeable. Also super funny and easy to talk to. EASY A!!
Dr. Richardson was an interesting women, she really likes her spiders. If you are the time of student who likes to learn from power points this is not the class for you. Lecture is a must to do well on the exams as she only hand writes her notes. Lab involves a lot of coloring and drawings that will be graded on your talent and abilities.
Expects way too much out of you, way too many assignments and projects all at once, not even sure what the criteria was for half of it
Hilarious professor who loves her spiders. Grade is mostly based on lab notebook which will consist of a lot of drawings. Grading criteria is not the clearest but she is a very approachable professor who is more than willing to help. In lecture she doesn't use powerpoint she writes everything out with the projector
Worst class I have ever taken. She is EXTREMELY unorganized and unclear. I don't think I learned anything in this class all semester and I went to each class and took notes. Class makes no sense and grade basically relies on lab, which was also unorganized. I wouldn't recommend this professor. 100% frustrating.
Unfortunately, when comes to Organismal Diversity, there is no way of getting out of having her. She has long, boring, confusing lectures. Her exams are a free for all and it's difficult to study. The lab components are also confusing. Don't be surprised if you spend a lot of outside time on the dumb lab note book. Good luck to all biology majors.
The lecture is taught odd. She isn't always clear on what is expected, and a lot of outside class time is dedicated to the class. Some of her remarks seem rude, but overall she makes things interesting.
Just show up to class and take really good notes - she is extremely funny and keeps the lecture entertaining. It's kind of like story time with her; she has an odd way of teaching but it really keeps the class awake and laughing. She's great! Also work hard on the lab notebook since it's worth many points at the end of the semester!
Half the time I didn't know what she was talking about because she went off on so many tangents. I had no idea what my grade was until after finals. She was so laid back (which sounds good I know) to the point where I never knew what to do because her instructions were so vague. She's super entertaining though I'll give her that.
- Her exams are totally based on the lectures which is good - she makes you buy her textbook for 100$ but it was totally useless - she draws a lot, (which is good) and be sure that it would be on her exams - She jumps from chapter to chapter during her lectures and it was a big mess - you need to do some community services in that class
Hand-writes all her notes, puts nothing online. Tests are long and hard.
Dr. Devinney (she changed her name from Richardson) is a kind soul. I used to hate her lectures however, I did warm up to her. Her classes are very lecture heavy, be ready to take notes. She is very heavy on drawing and illustrations. She does not use D2L, but she does have office hours. Her lectures are important to go to, a lot of info is oral.
Some people struggle with devinney/robinson with her unclear grading and very loose teaching style. To be successful, you must attend lecture and lab as all tests are based off that. Ask questions, learn what she likes and doesnt like, and if you're in Bio 242 work on that lab notebook from the start of the semester
The worst professor Ive ever had. Never have any clue whats going on no matter how smart you are
Mainly lecture learning! I took her for Environmental Biology and Animal Behavior. Both classes she taught with lots of colored markers and pictures. It was awesome! For the tests she expects you to know exactly what the notes were in class. Nothing more and nothing less. Very clear on what the final grade will be. Offers #s of ways to get pts.
Worst prof ever. Everyone always walked into class having no clue what was going on and pretty sure she didn't either. Always had unclear grading criteria and had ridiculous expectations for labs without telling us. Would get upset with us if we didn't know what was going on and wouldn't answer questions half the time. Never followed the syllabus.
Devinney herself is probably fun on the weekends, but no help WHATSOEVER in class. You just copy her weird notes that rarely make sense then do projects on the topics you "learned" about. She's so tough on the lab notebook you turn in at finals & she doesn't use D2L, so you never know your grade. Have to show up for class to write your initials.
She is funny and nice but her class is a literal joke. There are no grades until after semester is over so you have zero clue what is going on. You learn nothing except that she is a nice lady.
She is extremely vague about instructions but still expects certain things to be done. Save yourself the trouble of this professor.
She doesnt use D2L or even email so keeping up with whats going on in class is impossible, her notes are really confusing and unordinary so if you take the notes there is a good chance that you may not even know what they mean. Spare yourself and take any other professor, dont waste your time and money like me and have to end up withdrawing
Worst professor I have had yet. She doesn't use d2l and communication is very poor. The tests are all based off of in class notes and they are very confusing. It is almost impossible to study because you have no idea what the notes say. Save your time and money.
Worst teacher I've ever had. I sat at the front of my lecture and studied my butt off and went to tutoring. I went to her about half way through the professor and I was like am I studying the right way by memorizing the terms? She basically said just to rewrite and redraw the notes. The textbook is a coloring book and your own notes which are messy
Dr. DeVinney is not the best professor. I'm lucky that I had a good background in anatomy because that is the only reason I got the grade that I got in her 100 level class. Her lectures and notes are ALL OVER THE PLACE. I would not recommend her unless you are good at teaching yourself lessons. She also makes you do community service for a grade.
Devinney is easy to get along with- but this class was awful! She makes it sound like it will be easy- but it is 100% lecture-based, and the lectures are very vague and the tests are very specific. Doesn't use D2L, so you never know your grade. Your only resources are her confusing notes and tutoring services. Good luck.
Honestly.. the worst class Ive taken so far. 10 hours of community service and incredibly scattered notes that make absolutely no sense. If you havent taken any sort of anatomy prior to this I would not take this class. Unless you are in it with someone whos very knowledgeable about the human body or can teach yourself about it.
You have to do 10 hours of community service during this class for credit. I did all by composting because there are not many other options (especially during winter). I asked if I could pick up trash along the highways and she said no because there will always be more trash in ditches. OK BOOMER
A very difficult class to follow. Robin does not use D2L or provide study guides. All of her lectures are crazy abstract drawings that make little to no sense while in class. You also need to color pictures and do 10 hours of community service. I highly recommend using Kahn Academy, many of the things she talks about are on there.
Robin is a little weird, but the only way I got an A in her class was by going to her office hours. She will take the time to explain anything to you. She is caring and wants to get to know her students. I think a lot of people don't do well because they just don't give Robin a chance and judge her based on her quirks. She is very smart.
This class was extremely hard. No textbook, just a coloring book. You need to take really good notes from her lecture. I studied a lot in order to get an A. Also have to do 10 hours of community service. Dont take this class or professor if you dont have to. Nice lady, just not a very good professor. Doesnt use D2L so you dont know your grade.
i cried a lot over this class
I was nervous about this class about reading things about her on here but to be honest she isn't that bad you just have to show up, take notes, and study and you'll do fine. Her lecture are based off her notes that she draws in class which can be annoying but she uses though exact drawings on the exams to it helps.
The WORST Professor I have ever had in any course ever. She is never clear regarding anything, whether that's assignments, labs, or exams. If you question her, or ask for clarification she makes you feel unbelievably stupid and does not answer questions. She has an ancient website that has not been updated in who knows how many years.
She never gives clear instructions and when she emails you back it isn't even helpful. She takes point away for asking questions. She claims her tests will be on what we learned from the book but then we all fail because we never learn this stuff and it isn't in the book. I do not recommend this professor at all!
The most UNCLEAR professor I've ever had for my distance learning classes. Dr. Devinney gives no lectures, powerpoints, anything. She tells us to "muddle" through the book, but doesn't even tell us what that is. We have a weekly assignment that can only be submitted by emailing her. Doesn't have any of the grades in, so I have no idea what I have.
In BIO104, we received no lectures, assignments that applied to our section, or help understanding the material. When we asked questions, she would make us feel like we were stupid for having questions to ask. The assignments we did have were very easy and basic and didn't help us prepare for the 5 chapter tests.
At first I was skeptical about Dr. DeVinney but she really is just a unique person that is passionate about what she teaches. She made her class enjoyable although her tests were a bit confusing if you did the weekly assignment that made up most of your grade. Give her a chance and it'll benefit you!
Honestly, she gives no feedback and put absolutely nothing in D2L, so I was thinking I had earned an A in this class. My online class had 140 people taking it, which seems like a terrible plan in order to grade everyone properly. She essentially taught the class by telling you to read the textbook and gave activities that you complete via email.
DeVinney is an interesting lady. She is really nice, but a terrible communicator. She chose to do a hybrid class for fall 2020, but rarely communicated with us on the days we weren't physically in class. She also does not use D2L, so it can be hard to know your grade. Her exams are very subjective, which I found strange.
This class was frustrating. She refuses to use D2L for grades and tells students to keep track of it yourself if you want to know your grade. Notes are all uploaded into D2L, however they are all handwritten and hard to read. It was unclear what would be on the exams. Exam questions came from the text and her illegible lecture notes.
I don't recommend DeVinney! She doesn't require an actual textbook but SHE SHOULD! I don't know where the material on the exams comes from. The textbook that she has is a coloring book, it's useless. The slides that she posts don't make sense as there is no context to them. Overall I HATED this class. It was super confusing!
I, personally, think Dr. DeVinney gets a little bit of a bad rap. She is a delightful person. However, her choice to do a completely online class at have been a bit of a stretch. She does not upload your grade but she does tell you how you do on the weekly assignment. Also the textbook is not really necessary, as its mainly just coloring diagrams.
She always made lectures interesting, but she hand wrote her notes so those were hard to read. And her labs were very unclear.
This class was, well, odd. She makes you get a coloring book that she made for the class, that I didn't use once. She did 70% of class through emails that she wouldn't respond to if you didn't format it "right". There were also a couple of times that DeVinney took points off of work if you asked for clarification, and tests always had errors.
The lectures make no sense, our notes look like we are in kindergarten, and nothing is put into D2L, we are supposed to keep track of our own grade throughout the semester except she doesnt let us know even how many points we receive per assignment. Shes a sweet lady ill give her that tho!!
Dr. DeVinney's teaching methods are not fit for online classes. Her material does not translates well from teacher to student, leaving lots of room for incorrect interpretation and a vague understanding of the material. The "Text book", is nothing more than a poor excuse for a coloring book and gives very little aid to understanding the material.
Dr. DeVinney is my absolute least favorite professor this year. The class I am taking is supposed to be about Conservation, a topic we have hardly touched on at all. We did get a nearly hour long lecture on every miniscule detail of Charles Darwin's life. She is condescending and refuses to acknowledge the value of anything that isn't hard science
DeVinney is the worst professor I have ever had. She writes her own notes with markers and it is so hard to follow, she can be very rude, and you are supposed to keep track of your own grades. She puts nothing in D2L and is SO unorganized. In the first three classes, we had to leave class 20 minutes in because she wasn't prepared. She is NOT good.
Dr. Devinney is an interesting teacher to say the least. You will absoutely need to attend EVERY class or you will not pass, even with attending class it is still very difficult. Her notes are hard to follow and if you don't understand one lecture its likely you won't understand anything for the exams. I am disappointed with this class.
She handwrites her notes and it looks like a kindergartner wrote it. She doesn't know how to use the projector and if u ask her to fix it she makes u feel stupid. Called me a control freak in front of the entire auditorium. Her notes aren't even relevant to the textbook and her test are based on the lectures. Studying is impossible. Good Luck!
I think Dr. DeVinney is a unique professor. Her notes don't make much sense nor relate to the textbook, so you don't need to buy it. However, the assignments are pretty easy. The exams are pretty difficult and it is hard to study for them. I wouldn't take Dr. DeVinney again as her teaching style doesn't suit my educational needs the best.
Dr. DeVinney is one of the most frustrating professors I've had this year. She doesn't put anything in the gradebook and doesnt post anything on D2L. She is rude and not good at answering questions and makes rude comments when you do. The exams are long and she doesn't provide a study guide. The notes are confusing and all over the place.
She is arguably the worst professor ever. Her uploaded notes are so messy and make little sense. When I emailed her, she said "just go over it again until you get it". She also doesn't use D2L so who knows what your grade is. Although I turned in every assignment, she said I had an F for missing assignments. She made me cry so often.
Dr. DeVinney is a very interesting professor. She handwrites her lecture note making them difficult to read and study. You go to class and copy what she writes down, learning almost nothing. It is hard to study from her notes as they are messy. You do not need the textbook, she says things that reference the book but they aren't actually in there.
Dr. DeVinney is one of the most interesting people I have ever met. Her class is so unorganized and she doesn't know her own grading system. She has you keep track of your own grades and changes points a lot. She writes her own notes that are messy and make no sense. You will not learn anything beneficial in this class. Do not get the textbook.
The two words I'd use to describe this Professor is lazy and unorganized. She makes you calculate your own grade and doesn't even keep track of the points for things she assigns. Class has been canceled multiple times and ended early alot. Lecture notes are incoherent for studying , and tests are lecture based. The book is rarely used.
You track your own grade so be careful of that, but she does give decent extra credit opportunities. Tests were only based on the lecture material, and I didn't use the textbook at all. To pass you need to know everything she said in the lectures so don't miss any days.
I'm not sure if she is crazy or brilliant. The first day, she told us if we didn't pay attention, that she'd make stuff up until we called her on it. Sucks to have to take 20 minutes of notes and then discard it. She was prompt in her emails and kind to help if you asked. Prepare to color organs and body systems in a book she wrote! Very very smart
This Professor is a kind hearted lady though her class material is very hard to follow. Her lecture notes are all over the place and almost impossible to follow and helpless for studying. The tests were all based off of her lectures so you never have a solid idea of what could be asked on a test due to her unorganized lecture method.
DeVinney is very unstructured but she has all good intentions. She genuinely wants you to learn and her teaching methods are non-traditional and I am realizing that is okay. I think she is inspiring.
