She pretty much took the lecture notes from the book verbatim, she rushed her lectures and did not post lectures online until various complaints came up in class. She's getting her dissertation so basically she not officially a professor.. yet. Review outline wasn't very helpful. At least now we move onto plants.
She was the worst teacher I had in the 20 series. She was more concerned with blazing through her powerpoints at top speed than actually teaching the material. Luckily, her half of the class wasn't that difficult but, for me, it seemed a waste of an interesting subject (animals). A better professor would have made a world of difference.
I had to use my laptop to take her notes, but that wasn't even fast enough b/c she likes to rush through her lectures. Yeah, she puts her lectures online but her midterm is multiple choice, but it is still hard b/c it is focused on the small details or one sentence of her huge, giant lectures. If you want to do well or get an A, take someone else.
Really enthusiastic and loves the subject, but this does not reflect on her teaching. Long power points and tests you off of sentences on notes that are not completely coherent. She truly cared and had the best interest, but ultimately her time management skills were poor.
She's a wonderful professor! Her exams were on the harder side. I studied a lot and just barely got an A. Her lectures are online, which is how I realized she actually does a really good job at explaining things. The material is dense. You can't just rely on notes and think thats sufficient to get an A. Overall, dunkin is great. She taught me a lot
Don't be fooled by the other reviews. She is VERY difficult. The book is required and will run you $150. The midterms and final are not curved. Mandatory group project that takes at least 2-3 weeks to prepare. Class avg. was a C- since 1/3 class failed the final. IF you take this class be prepared to have no life at all for the rest of the quarter
Had her during the summer of '13. Never again. Book was required and tons of reading was assigned. Midterm and final were unjustly difficult. Well near half the class ended up dropping before the midterm. Good chunk of people withdrew AFTER the midterm. Only a fraction of the class stayed and the avg. was a C- Highest grade was a B+ by 1 person.
I thought Robin gave very clear lectures at a good pace. Using the note outlines she sends really helps. Exams aren't too difficult and she tries to tie in interesting facts about what you're learning. Very good professor!
Dunkin roxxx! Shes the best! more like dunkin donuts!!
Her lecture simplifies the book's explanation. She also add other notes & examples to make it clearer. She provides the topics' slides online, as well as a video record of the lecture. The lectures highly reflect her exams. The assignments requires you to be active and makes you engage in biology.Basically, if you review her notes, you'll pass.
Overall this class was very difficult for me. Her exams were very much on the hard side, but that is because she really wants you to know the material. If you want to do well, you will definitely need to put in a good amount of effort no doubt.
Go to class!!! She tests heavily on her notes and things she happens to mention in class. Also when she gives an assignment, pay attention to it, she will test from assignments as well. She also tests heavily on concepts so memorizing is no use. She wants you to know how to manipulate the simple information that she gives you.
Dunkin is horrible. She rushes through her notes and doesn't convey her expectations to you properly. You're just supposed to "learn biology" and if she happens to test you on a random fact from one of her 500 lecture slides it is considered fair game. She treats you like a child with mandatory lecture, section, worksheets, and quizzes. It's awful.
She is a horrible teacher. When she could actually cover the material she focuses on saying several times per lecture "you should read this in your book" and then doesn't cover it in class. Her clicker quizzes are poorly set up. just wish I could take the course w someone else.
Ready to have no life? Dunkin sucks. She lectures WAY too fast. She ACTS courteous towards students but is actually condescending. Exams cover almost ANYTHING said in class so be prepared to study EVERYTHING EVER SAID and more. She doesn't curve. Side projects are a grade boost but worthless towards advantages on the tests. NO Pre_Exam Tests given.
AVOID HER! The worst professor I have ever had. No practice test, ridiculous exams, dumb extra assignments, NO CURVE and mostly she cannot teach; she literally repeats what is on the slides just with better grammar. I regret taking this class so much. Also, need a clicker, waste of money when there are cheaper/free options available for quizzes.
Dunkin is a really good professor. The reason people consider her class to be horrible is not her teaching but the vast amount of information that is compacted into a quarter session. Soo much material. Use webcast and study before quizzes. You get easy points for handouts. And listen for key points which she points out in the lecture.
She's fair enough. Just study and try your best.
Boring mandatory class, rushes through material, workload isn't bad but exams are hard. Lecture notes aren't clear
Not a easy class due to the amount of material needed to know and her teaching style. If you know her notes well, the multiple choice shouldn't too bad although the written section is hit or miss. Mandatory clicker questions and she doesn't curve. Textbook is of little use as she tests solely from her notes.
Worst bio professor. Rushed through the slides. UCSC needs a more experienced professor for this class due to the fact that this material is crucial for many of us science majors. I am currently studying for my MCAT and I have to learn all this material over again because I never had a good grasp on it in the first place with Dunkin.
She doesn't curve which sucks... I don't like she reads off her lecture slides and expects people to know it.
I thought her exams were really hard especially the free responses. She doesn't curve, which really sucks. Unfortunately, she's the only bio20B professor at UCSC.
She doesn't care if her students understand the material or not. She doesn't curve even though there is only one midterm and one final (both which take up a lot of time filled with a million questions that are very nitty-gritty). Her tests just shows that she doesn't care if you get the big picture. She doesn't seem interested in teaching.
Don't spend your time doing the extra credit she offers! She told our class that the extra credit (which took HOURS to complete) given would be put into a specific category, but after grades came out, she decided to NOT put it into that category and only make the extra credit help our grade by 1%.
Well, in her class, you have to find a good way to take notes quickly. I recommend printing things out before hand or if you have a tablet, great! You have labs at the greenhouse & Seymour Center, and an article presentation in section. One midterm, one Final. Do well on quizzes! Extra Credit offered, but helps if u are borderline. Lots of material
The most stressful class I've ever taken. The iclicker questions were annoying and the final is cumulative. KNOW EVERYTHING!
This class is basically self-taught. She races through the lectures during class, you are given so much information and are expected to known this information like you are already an expert, and I guarantee you will have at least 1 mental breakdown. This class is ridiculously difficult for a "general" bio class. Worst of all, there's no curve.
Dunkin is a really nice teacher, and she does try her best to help the students to understand the concepts. But then, we as students also have to study hard because Dunkin can only take us so far. Hard midterm, but fair final. Do well on her quizzes, lab hw, and section participation because those are grade booster assignments
This course is the hardest course that I have ever taken in my life. But Dunkin does a great job to help get through this course. Dunkin can only take us so far, and the rest is up to us to study. I recommend rewriting her lecture notes, drawing diagrams, teaching the materials to other people, and go to MSI!! If you do these things, you'll be fine
I'd heard horror stories of this professor, but honestly I loved her! She was extremely fair, enthusiastic, knowledgable, and wanted her students to succeed. Don't be fooled, her tests were hard and you must study, but they are definitely doable!
She's no as bad as the reviews say. The class is hard, but she does want everyone to understand the material. Her lectures go by really quickly so either write them out before hand or print it out because you won't be able to keep up. GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS!!! You have to go above and beyond if you want to get the A.
Her class was interesting and I got a lot out of it, but I really didn't like how she tested. I understood everything and still ended up with a C+
She was very nice and did a fairly good job covering and examining all of the extensive material. But her tests were so hard. The questions would try to trick you. Make sure you set the most time aside for this class and exploit all of the opportunities to get points (meaning go to lecture because she has clicker quizzes) and do the worksheets.
Dunkin is a great teacher. Biology requires a lot of memorization and hard work. She presents the material in an organized manner and has a lot of cool labs and demos along the way. I'm surprised her rating is so low, she's actually a great teacher and I would recommend her to anyone. Put in the work and you'll get an A!
I was pretty fortunate to take this class at Spring Quarter. I heard Dunkin gets easier every quarter; and I don't think I would have done as well if I took her class anytime before that. ALL quizzes online, shorter and easier midterm and final, and labs. I am hoping she will be as easy in future quarters like she was this quarter for us
Good prof, and so helpful during office hours! There a ton of info to learn, so if you don't put in the effort you won't do well. That being said, she tries super hard to make dull info interesting which I appreciated. Make sure to go to lecture!
She is a great lecturer! The class is by far my favorite in the bio series, but definatly difficult. As a teacher she really strives to make you think like a scientist. Don't memorize anything, you won't pass. Go to lecture and office hours and really try to understand everything. She's extremely helpful in office hours.
She lectures straight from the slides, and her tests questions are very in depth and random. It's hard to get a grasp of what's really going on with 15 chapters to go through each about 50 slides long. I overall dislike her "active learning" teaching style. She passes out stickers for answering questions and treats us like kids. Mandatory clickers.
Lectures are long but she actually tries to make it interesting. Write what she tells you during her lecture because those are basically the words she wants you to use for answering the free response questions on exams. Tests can be tough because of random facts and tough grading by the TA's Understand very well the concepts instead of memorizing
She REALLY likes class participation and active learning. Lectures are good, discussions are required. Offers a lot of extra credit. 2 midterms (one take home), and final. Does a couple of interesting things, go to Seymour Center and the greenhouse on top of Thimann. Also dissected an otter's digestive system in class and let us touch it.
Dunkin is a great lecturer but don't expect to get a good grade if you aren't willing to put time in. Got an A but had to work for it. She wants you to understand not just memorize. Try your best not to miss class because the graphs she teaches will be on your exams. Try to word things on tests the same as she taught them or you'll lose points
Dr. Dunkin is probably one of my favorite professors I've had at UCSC. She really cares about her students, and attending office hours really helps! I'm not an amazing test taker, so I found the format of having a 2nd take-home midterm really helpful. I found the class to be super interesting, and as long as you make an effort you'll do fine.
I love Robin! She does this whole "active learning" style of teaching that encourages each student to collaborate with others, discuss ideas, form hypotheses, and so on. It can be a pain for some, but in the long run it is so very helpful! It truly makes new information "stick" better. Robin is also very receptive to students' questions.
Dunkin's awesome in her own individual way. To me, she's intimidating and likes to be very straight to the point. Ask her any questions related to the lectures, and she will clear any confusion after asking you to explain it first. SO do your homework. Very big on active learning so she makes attendance mandatory via iclicker and go to office hours
Dunkin was an amazing professor, hands down. She was so enthusiastic the entire quarter, and she brought fun and excitement to what could have been another boring TTh lecture. Her notes were typically very clear and she relied on iClickers for attendance. Mandatory out-of-class videos and homework was required, but none of it was too much to handle
I can honestly see people liking Dunkin. However, she wastes so much class time with her little "active learning." The activities she does are not helpful, when one goes to class one expects the teacher to cover the material. People just sit and talk during these "active" sessions wasting about 20% of class time.
Dr. Dunkin was a great teacher. She really cares and does her best to get us all to learn LOTS of complex material in a short time. Her office hours are packed but helpful! She makes the material interesting and reading the book and practicing concepts helps with knowing it well. Tests are fair. Would take one of her classes again.
I took the active learning version of 20B. This version had a lot of worksheets, group projects and online quizzes. Most of this stuff was helpful, but the sheer amount of stuff to go through made the class difficult. You WON'T keep up with all the external materials and readings. Tests were difficult and kind of unpredictable. Overall it was okay.
Dunkin was very enthusiastic about the subject but it felt like she wasted a lot of time doing active learning exercises and to make up for it, she would rush through the lecture notes. I had to put in a good amount of work outside of class to make up for what I did not learn in lecture.
There's a lot of homework/outside of the class quizzes that's aren't exactly easy. There are trick questions on the test, you really have to understand the material in order to do well. Lectures are interesting, but you have to do clicker questions to get a participation grade. A good amount of extra credit is offered which is cool.
Female Physiology was surprisingly straightforward and easy. I did take BIO 20b with her and found it more challenging as a first year, however BIO 80 is a bit of a different story. I took this class in my last quarter and I'm sorry to say it was mostly for filler, but I recommend it to any woman that wants to know a little more about themselves.
One of the best bio prof. She tries to make the lecture fun and interesting. Her notes are pretty helpful. As long as you do the homework and pay attention in her class, you will do well in her class. iclicker is required for participation and online quiz every week.
Dunkin gave lots of easy homework outside of class and pretty easy extra credit/participation. Her lectures are good, her lecture notes are basic. Go to class. Her tests were really hard imo. The free response parts were easy, but she throws a ton of really obscure facts at you on the multiple choice which is really hard to study for.
She is extremely nice and reasonable. Flexible with due dates as in if we do not cover it she will push back dates and quizzes. Very down to earth and truly wants you to suceed. Requires participation.
There are additional quizzes, reading, homework, and mandatory attendance so check your Canvas and keep track of due dates. Midterm was pretty easy but final was cumulative and dense. Does give option of extra credit but it's only worth 1% and you have to do all of the assignments. Very clear about what she expects and fun lecturer.
Great class really enjoyed her style of teaching. Many people hated the iclickers, but I liked them because she would let you talk to your neighbors to help you understand it better. Also she does have some extra credit which is nice. Overall if you pay attention in class you will do fine.
Took her for fem phys. Bc its bio there's lots of work but she's a great lecturer & her slides had all the info you needed. She also put memes (not dank ones tho). As a non-bio major I got a B (with effort!). On her tests she'd also include some freebies like a few obvious wrong answer choices to help u pick the right one. If u can take her, do it!
Dunkin is easily one of the best biology teachers I've had at UC Santa Cruz. Her lectures are engaging and interesting, it was easily my favorite class. Dunkin makes sure you have many opportunities to actively learn the material and I always looked forward to her class. Dunkin is an inspiration and her class made me so excited for a career in bio.
This is for the bio 20B active learning class. Dunkin was honestly the best teacher and it is so inspiring to learn from someone who loves the material. She cares a lot for her students and really challenges you to think outside of the box. I really felt that everything in the class prepared me to actually think like a scientist! Tests are fair!
Took the active learning version of the class: Amazing teacher, weird way to present the material. Go to the lectures, her tests are based off all of them. Main way to pass tests is to find old tests and memorize the concepts, she repeats them a lot. Too much group work though, sometimes feels like AP Bio all over again. Easy homework though
Dr. Dunkin was really easy to learn from. She makes lectures really accessible and offers plenty of study tools. It is important to make yourself known to her by going to office hours. For studying, focus on the vocabulary and how the words connect to each other. It's a great class.
If you're into being annoyed, take this class. She waste so much time in lecture making you talk to your neighbor. We barely go over the book topics in lecture. I feel like the class is a waste of time since you end up having to teach yourself everything anyways.
Probably one of the worst lecturers on campus. Although, I'm sure she is great in her active learning class, the way she implements active learning in a lecture is terrible. With a class of 200+ students, your main focus should be to thoroughly cover material. Most class time is spent doing useless activities rather than lecture notes.
TAKE HER IF YOU CAN!! Dunkin was by-far my fave professor at this wretched university. She does a lot of "turn to your partner and discuss x" but tbh it was not a big deal. Tests are super easy and she reuses questions from previous exams. Makes you love biology and always has productive office hours!
She's a great teacher which is super apparent in every lecture, but the interactive learning bit can be a bit frustrating especially in Classroom Unit 2. Be prepared to take notes on the Play Posit videos that she assigns, some of the subjects she doesn't cover in actual lecture. One midterm, and one final which she reuses a lot of rest q's on.
Active learning is not fun to do at all. She has you talk with people around you, write on whiteboards, and has people share out their answers to the whole lecture hall. Besides the active learning part, she is pretty good at lecture, and her exams are pretty good. You can actually explain your ideas in the free response, so that makes it easier.
I knew a lot of people that didn't like her but I LOVED HER! She really seemed to care about her students and was always so kind. The homework and tests were fair. Lecture slides are posted online, just study them really well! She gives examples in class that end up on tests so don't miss class!
This professors is by far one of the best lecturers I've had at this university and teaches her subject with clear passion and real world applications. That being said if you don't attend lectures or don't do reading work you will definitely be missing out on a lot of useful information, and struggle in the class. But otherwise class is great.
Dunkin is not a great lecturer. She tries to use active learning on a class that is about 300 students. This always felt like such a waste of time to me. She doesn't stress what material will be important for the exams. However, she really does care about her students. This is a class that is easy to pass but hard to get an A. Overall decent.
Dunkin is a great professor! Go to as many of her office hours as you can. She asks questions that are almost identical to ones that you will see on the exams. She does assign a lot of homework outside of class but it's helpful to do to understand concepts. She covers a lot of dense material in class but she makes it clear and understandable.
The curriculum was definitely a bit different this quarter, since everything is online, so it differs a bit from her in-person lectures. However, Dr. D was super flexible and understanding about working around our schedules to assure we were accomodated. Along with lectures, she would have hw and playposit videos to help us understand the material!
She is very big on group participation assignments and very enthusiastic about her class. She does care how you do and if you're struggling just talk to her. During Corona she altered the class to help her students succeed(made the final optional too!). She's smart, funny and loves marine life. You wont regret her class
I took this class online during covid-19 and professor Dunkin and her teaching team were wonderful. Lecture was good and shes's good at communicating what is due and prioritizes what's best for her students.
What a god of a teacher. Hands down the most thoughtful and understanding teacher I've had since elementary school. She prepared us very well for the tests and adjusted them for Covid style learning. She wants you to learn and have fun in her class and I would take it again just to have her.
This professor is AMAZING. She understands her students and what they need in order to be successful. Honestly I can't wait to take one of her classes in-person in the future.
Dr. Dunkin is the sweetest most incredible human being. You can tell from her lectures that she is truly passionate about what she is teaching and this passion makes students more motivated and captivated to learn. She is extremely considerate given the circumstances due to COVID. She is absolutely amazing and I wish she taught all my classes <3 :)
I looked forward to her class every week. She was so kind and genuinely cares about how you're doing. She is always making time during lecture to ask if anyone has questions. The way she assigns modules is really beneficial for our learning too. Definitely take her if you have the chance. SHE IS AMAZING!!!
Dr. D is one of the best Bio professors in Santa Cruz. She's so passionate about teaching her students. The class is easy as long as you're willing to do all the work. She also cares about her student a lot and very considerate. Definitely take her. SHE'S AMAZING!! I wish UCSC will hire more professors just like Dr. D.
She's awesome! Amazing teacher and adjusted well to online learning.
Professor Dunkin is hands down one of my favorite professors. She's adapted super well to Covid, making all kinds of short content videos that we then go over in lecture. Discussion section is when we work on our projects, go to those and you get an easy pass. Don't participate? Well. Homework and tests have three tries and unlimited time. <3
I really enjoyed this course! There is a lot of homework, but a lot of it is very low stakes. If you do the work, you'll do well! Her class emphasizes learning the material, not cramming to do well on one test. I ended up genuinely enjoying a lot of the course work! She wants to set you up for success, so take this prof if you can!
Great professor!! Passionate about biology and teaching. Super engaging during remote learning. Will 10/10 talk about house plants with you. Highly recommend her class, especially the active learning one.
Dr. D was so unbelievably understanding and considerate this quarter. Her class structure is very helpful and low-stake quizzes replace the usual midterm and final exams. Class content is not difficult at all just as long as you pay attention. She finds ways to make the class fun and engaging. Try to take this class with Dr. D, I highly recommend!
Dr. Dunkin is SUCH a nice and caring professor. She cares about her students SO much. However, didn't like her "covid" teaching style much. We just watched so many pre-recorded videos and then went to lecture once a week. Hard to feel engaged with the course that way. The material is ridiculously easy though. An easy A for sure.
I took this class remotely & it's lots of work, but it's really easy. Here's the structure: short content videos (like lectures), must attend 1 section and 1 class, hw (unlimited tries), weekly quiz (3 tries), and a quarter-long project. Dunkin is super sweet and she really cares! Your grade consist of a lot of assignments so it's easier to pass.
Love her daily random animal facts and how she tries to engage with the class!
Dr. D was very accommodating in regards to online-learning and gave us many opportunities to boost our grades and turn in late work. She gives great, detailed lectures and really cares about the students. There was a lot of homework and projects but none of it felt like busy work. I highly recommend taking her class.
Professor Dunkin has a flexible deadline policy and is very clear in her lectures.
Great teacher, super super fun teacher and really passionate about Bio. Made it super fun to learn and made me want to continue to study.
Definitely, one of the best classes I've taken at this school. I found that her lecture videos made me genuinely interested about the subject.
Prof Dunkin made bio 20B actually enjoyable and really prioritized our learning over what grades we got. I feel like I've actually learned so much while taking this course, and I feel like Prof Dunkin really cares a lot about her students. Content videos were super helpful (we watched them before lecture) and lecture time was used for review.
Dr. Dunkin has been my favorite professor at UCSC so far. She is extremely caring and nice to talk to during Office Hours and the class material is really interesting. Multiple attempts for quizzes and homework, neither timed-AMAZING! Just do the work and you'll get an A. HIGHLY recommend this prof!!!
By far the best teacher I've had so far. Watched content videos before lecture to prepare us for class and then in lecture went over what we had watched. Makes the lectures fun and is very open to clarifying questions the class had or going over something we had learned before. So caring and kind, even talked about internships and how to prepare.
dunkin is really sweet and knows what she is talking about. the class is structured so that you watch content videos beforehand (and answer questions on them) and then her lectures go over what was discussed in the content videos. you get multiple chances to take quizzes and she is really accommodating to her students.
Professor Dunkin is one of the best professors I have ever had. She is super accommodating and while the workload can be hefty due to lots of content videos, she makes everything low stakes! As long as you participate in class + discussion and understand the main concepts you will do fine :)
Dr. D was so sweet and one of the nicest professors I have had. Every assignment she assigns has a 24 hour grace period and the content videos are open the entire quarter. Her midterms were open note and pretty easy.
I have taken for two separate classes and she has been great in both. Super understanding with extensions and very nice overall. Her tests aren't too bad, I'd suggest knowing the definitions though.
This class has so much work but Dr. Dunkin is great. Attendance is required for lecture and section. You also need to watch content videos before lecture as lecture is used to get more in depth into the material. Extra credit is offered and she is super helpful outside of class, especially for questions related to research and internships.
Dr. Dunkin was really nice and made the class super interactive. She has brought real animal organs into class as visual aids. She also gives info about research opportunities at UCSC. The assignments are a bit overwhelming at times, but there's a 24 hour grace period.
She was the best. So understanding of her students.
Dr. Robin Dunkin is an amazing professor. Her teaching style was a little unorthodox but I would gladly take her class again. The course was Lecture heavy, lecture video recording, homework once a week, quiz once a week, mini midterms, and a final project. As long as you stay on top of things you will pass. One of my favorite professors.
LOVE ROBIN. Great person, great teacher, just the best. Grading is easy enough, gives you extra time for almost every assignment. Inspirational for sure, her lectures are engaging and entertaining. She's easy and great to talk to. She's just one of those teachers who you know actually cares about you even though she has 200 other students.
Professor Dunkin was very easy to talk to and was a great teacher overall.
Dunkin focuses on the student's understanding of the material and uses multiple engaging methods to prove it. You could email her about anything and she'd have a kind response. She's a real one. A lot of content but she teaches it super clearly. Just write notes and follow along.
This was my fave of the 20 series. I took the active learning class which focuses on understanding the material + learning applicable knowledge like interpreting scientific lit and sharing relevant campus research. There was no busy work in this class and twas very engaging. She clearly cares for students + makes efforts to get to know everyone.
Super nice professor and extremely understanding. She truly wants everyone to succeed and will always help you if you are struggling with the class material. I wouldn't say the class is easy but definitely more enjoyable than Bio20A. Even though the class is pretty large usually around 200 people she will take the time to know your name.
The content video style learning did not work well for me, and I struggled to keep up with all of the videos posted. Some of the information felt scattered and slightly vague as to what we should know in detail. That being said, I really enjoyed the class, thought the material was interesting and enjoyed Robin's lectures. She is a great professor.
I took her winter 2023. Information was very well explained and she took time to review concepts. Tests had an individual portion and a group portion. She encouraged class collaboration a lot. We had review worksheets. She made it very easy to do well in the class. Also very kind and caring professor.
Professor Dunkin is amazing! She is kind and compassionate; you can tell she cares about her students and what she teaches. Her tests are very straightforward. My only complaint would be the amount of work outside of class, which is manageable if done on time. She is phenomenal!
I think shes a better person than she is teacher. This class is very active learning heavy which works for some but not all. She gives you a list of things you need to know which I would focus on for tests. Study quiz and homework and video questions-they appear on tests. This class was fine but I didn't enjoy it.
Dr D. is a sweet & amazing person and teacher. She's very knowledgeable in biology which made her lectures and lecture videos very easy to understand. Graded by: two midterms, final, scientific paper project, weekly videos w/ quizzes, and attendance points. Can get behind if you put off videos, but easy to catch up bc her course is very organized.
she is so cool
If you want to remember what it was like to do hybrid learning then she's great. Unnecessary writing assignments and she requires you to watch video lectures on top of going to lecture in person. In my experience not understanding or caring at all. Was struggling with mental health and she literally said sorry but there's nothing I can do.
She shows plenty of knowledge and passion for her field, good lecturer
Mandatory lecture/section attendance and flipped "video lecture before class" format. It all helps you solidify the info in the end, and the class isn't that hard. She promotes the idea of conceptualizing things rather than memorizing which helps a lot. She has very in-depth small group office hours which are great for learning material. Great prof
Awesome professor she somehow manages to engage a lecture hall of 200+ people. Her flipped classroom videos are sometimes hard to keep up with but you can watch them anytime and they're all very clear and succinct. She'll clear up concepts you've been wondering about for years in ten minutes or less.
flipped classroom means that you spend most of your time watching lecture videos at home that she goes over again in class which can be frustrating but she's a good teacher. attendance worksheets are passed out in every lecture. 2 midterms and a final exam that each have an individual and group part.
Professor Dunkin is very understanding and a great teacher. Watching the required video lessons before the lecture was annoying and took a lot of time but were useful when you wanted to go back to review or relearn the topics. The short answer questions on the tests where graded harshly but that's to be expected.
Loved Robin's teaching style, she's very approachable and passionate about biology. Flipped class format made lecture content much easier to follow, otherwise the amount of material is overwhelming. Just watch the videos and you'll do fine. Multiple attempts were given for homework and quizzes which really encouraged learning from mistakes.
She is a really kind professor! She has a flipped class format so you have to watch the videos before hand and she does hands on activities during class. She is the type of professor who will take time to learn your name and really inspire you to learn!
This class is not extremely difficult, however there is a large workload requirement each week in addition to attending lectures and sections (which are mandatory as not attending will effect your grade). Tests are not difficult, but the written portion are graded hard. I would say try not to fall behind on the weekly videos.
Professor Dunkin's BIO20B class has a flipped format, but it works well if you stay on top of the weekly videos. The workload is manageable, and Unstuck AI can be a helpful study tool alongside the course materials.
Easy material but lots of homework and pre lecture videos.
Dr. Dunkin is really good at what she does. Great instructor. But, class set up makes it super easy to fall behind. 1st midterm is usually pretty difficult, but once you get into 2nd, most people improve. Don't expect any extra credit (usually only comes from SETS). THEY ARE SUPER HARSH ABOUT DEADLINES!!
Prof. Dunkin is great! The class has a lot of content, but she explains everything clearly and provides numerous opportunities for students to ask her questions or discuss with other classmates. The tests are somewhat difficult, but there was a group portion, which was nice. As long as you keep up with the lectures, you'll be fine (LSS is good too)
Prof Dunkin is AMAZING. She genuinely cares about her students' success and constantly asks for feedback and how she can improve her course. No trick questions on her exams, and she does an excellent job at explaining concepts in easy ways to understand. 100% recommend her!!
2 Midterms and 1 Final: Tests were slipt into secections independent and group Dunkin was super caring, gave us grace periods for late work, and would extend due dates further if you asked her. Hard material and tests are pretty tough but overall great professor with organized lectures.
Uses a flipped format which means content comes from videos, textbook, lectures, individual projects, and all over the place. Questions on exams are weirdly specific, assume you need to know EVERYTHING in depth to do well. attendance required in a huge class, many just come for attendance points, bad system. harder than bio 20a!!
The format of the class is flipped, which personally helped me, but the tests were evil. They are mainly short answer, except the questions themselves were super specific, and so if you didn't know absolutely everything, you were kind of screwed. The wording was really bad too, but she never fixed that. Not a horrible class, but not the best.
This class is impossibly hard, you think you know the material, the test comes out and you don't. The questions are EXTREMELY specific. The prepping watching the videos, reviewing your notes, watching youtube videos on all the concepts, writing tons of practice questions, attending office hours, internalizing everything in discussion is NOT enough.
This class is really difficult, and you genuinely need to know everything to get an A. I did everything I could by attending office hours, completing all the homework, and reaching out to my TA for extra help, but it still wasn't enough. There is almost no extra credit, grading is extremely strict, and test questions are often unclear.
Whoever said this class is easier than 20A is LYING OUT OF THEIR A**. Her canvas was a mess, and she was too lazy to create new practice tests that included more of the actual content we were being tested on. FRQ grading is also really inconsistent. One person could receive full credit for the same answer that someone else got half credit for.
I literally did everything I could, including office hours, help from TAs, help from former students but its not enough. Tests are so hard and unclear. Basically no extra credit. Liked the content but hated this class sm.
This professor has high expectations for exams and it is almost impossible to get an A in this class. She also expects the students to use her exact wording to get full credit and does not offer extra credit opportunities. She also makes the content super hard to understand and unenjoyable. I would not recommend this class at all.
If you want a professor who doesn't follow feedback from students, has difficult exams because she wants you to write the stuff SHE WANTS in PhD-level detail, and gives you group portions that don't even help because you can have the same answer as your partner and still receive a lower grade. Take Dunkin! You will have a blast!
