he lectures alot, as long as you take notes. then you'll do fine on the tests.. he makes jokes alot. they're funny. id take him again.
He's funny and he knows his stuff. Answers emailed questions quickly and helpfully. We used the book, but he put the pages on moodle, so I just printed them out to carry around instead of the book. Lectures are very interesting, made me love history even more. I'd take him again.
Dr. Herman is awesome! His lectures are pretty interesting and he's funny. Just an all around cool, nice guy. I'd definitely take him again.
This guy is a terrific professor. Hilarious in my opinion. I never really liked history before I took him, but I loved his course. Gives study guides for test, and answers any questions that you might have via e-mail. Gives oppportunity to edit papers before they are due to ensure a good grade. I will definatly be taking him again...
You'll enjoy Dr. Hermann as your prof. Very entertaining, and his lectures will grab your attention.Very helpful and friendly as well. Study and do a few readings/assignments and you'll be fine.
He knows his stuff. Seems to focus on insignificant points in history instead of the main topics. He lectures well in class so you do not have to study as much. Also gives a study guide. 2 writing assignments are required. not too bad
Absolutely the BEST teacher I have ever had! You will actually want to go to this class! He is a great teacher who makes everything very clear. He goes over everything, and you don't have to study as much.
I love him as a teacher. He is so funny and loves what he does. He's EXTREMELY helpful. He will give you a study guide before each test, and he will read your essays, correct them, and give them back so you can make the changes. His class was not boring usually. Take him if you can.
Dr. Hermann is very down to earth person. His class is not hard if you attend everyday for the lectures. The essays are not hard at all, just email him if you need help with your essay or study guide. Also his test are easy because half of the stuff on the study guide is on the test. I definately recommend to take his class whether you are a histor
He is hilarious and made me actually want to go to class, even though I had it at 8am! He is very helpful and even made me consider changing my major to history!
Now this is an excellent professor. He knows exactly how to give an interesting lecture and present history in a way that anyone can understand, and he's very smart. Just keep up with the readings and take good notes and his class is great. I recommend taking him especially if you don't like history that much because he will keep your attention.
Very clear about subject. Tests are 20 mult. choice, 2-3 discussions. Study and read the books. He hated when nobody would discuss the readings. Have 2 papers to write. Easy grader on those. Funny guy & awesome personality. Take him!
I love Dr. Hermann! He's great.
Awesome Professor!Does take roll so go to class. He gives study guides where the test questions come straight from. He is very helpful and funnny. I was not a history person, but when I took his class I got alot out of it. It is better to read the readings, but i hardly ever did and I got an A.
He's really awesome. I'm not into history at all, but he's pretty funny and his lectures are interesting. He will teach until the exact minute class is over every time, and will start class at the exact time.Tests come straight from the study guide and if you take notes and listen to him you won't really need to study at all
he is great! totally not funny but laugh at his jokes anyways. and DO NOT INTERRUPT HIM! he hates that.
Notes, notes! Study guides your best bet. Very helpful.
He's an amazing teacher. I highly recommend him to everyone. TAKE HIS CLASS. And he has an awesome beard.. :)
VERY GOOD WHAT HE SAYS IS WHAT IS ON THE TEST PLUS GIVES STUDY GUIDE EXACTLY FROM TEST THINK I WILL HAVE A A GOT B RIGHT NOW. MUST STUDY THE GUIDE THOUGH AND GO TO CLASS
Dr. Hermann is the best! He's very helpful and his lectures are interesting. He makes class very fun and his tests are fair. He gives you a study guide with all of the identifications that will be on the test. I would highly suggest taking Dr. Hermann!
Awesome teacher!!! He really knows his stuff! I loved going to this classes because he taught in a way that kept your attention. I would def recommend him! You have to write two essay, but he will review them if you send them in early. He gives study guides for the exams.
Very good professor. Take notes. Gives study guide before test and the essay questions as well. Gives a lot of points on your essay questions for the test even if you only answer part of them, You can send him your papers before you turn them in and he will give you comments. Very interesting and funny man. I recommend taking his class!!
Dr. Hermann was by far my favorite teacher of all time. Before I took this class, I hated history... he transformed that hate into love. He is very easy if you study for the class. He gives study guides and his tests come straight from that. This teacher will do anything to keep you interested! TAKE HIM!
He is a very great professor. I took him three times in a row for British history. He knows his stuff and makes everything clear. The papers are not hard. The study guides are easy and straight from your notes. The test is 20 of the 40 identifications and 2-3 essays. I recommend anyone to take him.
really good teacher, interesting lectures, easy test/class, most of jokes are funny but you can tell he prepares his jokes which makes them cheesy sometimes
Definitely my FAVORITE class so far. I absolutely hate history, but I LOVED going to his class. I learned so much information in this class. His jokes are okay..you can tell he's used them for years though. Very understanding guy. His test are pretty easy..straight from the notes. He will answer any question you have for him. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
funny, nice, knows the material, down to earth, easy, take home tests! Loved him
Funny and Knowledgeable. Probably the best teacher on campus. Three take home tests and two papers. Interesting class.
This was one of my favorite teachers on campus! I struggled in history in high school, but Dr. Herman explains it in a fun and interesting way that actually makes sense. He is funny (sometimes even when he's not trying to be). The tests were take home, and there were two papers, but if you pay attention in class, it's easy. Books are necessary.
Easy class. Only two papers that have to be 3-5 pages long. Easy grader on those. For the tests, all you need to study from is the study guide. For reading quizzes, you are allowed to have the readings out as long as you have the answers written or highlighted.
Love love love Dr. Hermann! His class is fun and you definitely learn a lot but he explains it in a way anyone can understand. Tests are not hard if you go to class and study from slides and notes. Best teacher Ive had at UL by far!
Buy the books! He is hilarious and nice and interesting. He knows his material! This is my second time taking him. Two 4-page essays and the tests are take home. TAKE HIM!!!
One of the best professors at UL. He makes the class extremely interesting so paying attention isn't a problem. All of his tests are take-home, and he is very willing to help out with anything you might need. I highly recommend this course.
He was a very funny teacher. Mainly everything you learn in the class are from the notes so just pay attention. I'd give him an overall 6 out of 10
He's awesome! So funny and made class really interesting. Probably my favorite college class so far. There are 2 essays but you'll have enough material for them to be a piece of cake. He does slideshows but GO TO CLASS because he goes into detail about the slides and questions on the test will be from his explanations.
FUNNY and makes the lectures interesting with his wit. Demands respect. Grades hard on the test..makes sure you are prepared for the essay questions and write everything you know on the topic. Two essays-easy TAKE notes, the lectures will be the test. He appears intimidating but is really nice one on one. A fair teacher who is good a what he does.
Very smart and hilarious. One of UL's best. Great course. Attendance never a problem bec. you don't want to miss.
Haha very good teacher funny as hell and makes class interesting, if you get a chance take him
He is NOT easy! obviously, his teaching skills have changed. He is very hard at grading. He does not respond to emails...at all. When grading tests, on your essay question does not write why he took off points. Avoid taking him. At all cost
3 tests, half multiple choice, half essay questions. No comprehensive final. 2 three page papers, he reads rough drafts and alway responds with comments within 24 hours. Fun professor. Take him.
He was very helpful. We did not use the book, goes over everything on test. Funny in his own way. Likes respect. I would take him again if I had too
Take him! He is a good teacher and very helpful! Funny too!
Good professor. Very clear with what he wants for assignments and tests. Pretty funny on most days. One of my favorite classes.
The class itself is relatively easy, but Hermann as a professor is bad. He relies to heavily on humor, and doesn't always accomplish his lesson plans for the day, but expects us to make up for his slack. He is prone to temper tantrums and it is a horrible learning environment. DO NOT TAKE.
Excellent professor. He is big on attendance so always show up on time. Other than that, his lectures are interesting and very clear. The tests are half multiple choice half essay (two essays for each test). There are also two, three page papers and a few pop-quizzes. The pop quizzes are extremely straightforward; just keep up with the readings.
Great guy! would recommend to anyone. History is boring but he made it interesting. Had a few pop quizzes, 2 essays and 3 tests. You only need the book for the essays
Dr. Hermann was by far my favorite History teacher i've ever had! I recorded his class but never listened to it. He gives 6 pop quizzes and drops the lowest one so ALWAYS read the moodle readings. Take good notes and you'll pass with an A! There is 2 papers, 2 tests, and a final. i wish i could take him again! Never opened the text book!!!!
i would definitely take again! I loved his class! History is not my thing but his class was very interesting
Robin Hermann was one of my favorite teachers. He is hilarious and makes going to class so worth it. He'll dance to ringtones if someone's phone rings, his tests are simple and straight forward, class is fun. There are essays, but he gives you the exact questions in advance. He gives study guides. Take him if you can. He is FANTASTIC.
Not at all a good teacher, in my opinion. Lectures were VERY scattered. He would often get upset when people didn't laugh at his jokes. Always kept us to the last minute, sometimes over time. Does not allow absences, NO EXCUSE. Often made historically inaccurate claims while trying to make a joke. Called out students for not taking enough notes.
He is definitely funny and makes class interesting, but his lectures are scattered as he goes in no particular order and doesnt follow the textbook. Tests are extremely difficult. The essay questions are not easy and must be at least a page in length each.
He's a cool dude but you have moodle readings for homework due each class. His powerpoints are not enough to pass so you'll literally be listening to him & taking notes for 75 minutes . He's obviously well educated and knows what he's talking about, but you'll be bored in his class. I record his lectures and take notes because he goes kinda fast.
Really straight forward class. Assigns short reading for every class. Two papers, but both are simple and short. plus he'lol edit them for you. Gives study guides for every test. Only take three tests including the final. Very funny but sometimes hard to sit through class.
Boring class but he has a sarcastic sense of humor that I loved. As long as you listen and take notes you will do fine in the class. He has 2 papers but he is an easy grader on them. Did not buy the textbook, you don't need it
Dr Hermann is literally one of the best profs @ UL. His sense of humor is great. Lectures for the entire class period though. There are only 2 papers and a few tests with a few pop quizzes. There are readings assigned for every class but I never read them and I have a B in the class. Also, if you email him a rough draft of your paper, he will edit it for you, which is very helpful. Overall really funny, cute in a grandpa way, easy teacher. Would definitely take him again
Mr. Hermann is great! Class was interesting with clear powerpoints, he makes history funny and you get easy A if you send a draft of your paper. As an exchange student, I only had one of the 2 books and I barely read it. He is passionate and it shows: it's great! You can pick his class without hesitation!!
Nothing is unexpected. He gives study guides. He gives a great lecture. The class is super interesting. You won't get anything less than an A if you study and use the resources he provides you will do fine. The most important part is knowing the essay information. If you're not entirely sure you have the information, you can email him for help.
This class was my absolute favorite of this semester. Couldn't have asked for a better teacher. Lectures usually last as long as the class is scheduled for. He keeps things interesting. Make sure you read the moodle readings. Pop quizes will kill if you don't.
He was really good at explaining the lessons. If you are a freshman and you what to be challenged, he's perfect for you! If you have anxiety or if you can't focus do not take his afternoon classes, and he might not be the best prof for you. He is great though; he's a great prof. Prepare to work hard for your grade.
Hilarious!! Kept class interesting. He does keep you for the whole time though. Beware of pop quizzes of the noodle readings! But overall great professor. I would definitely take him again!
3 tests, 2 easy papers & a handful of pop quizzes(3 questions)assigned lengthy readings; Tests are easy, just study, and there are study guides (2 essay questions that are worth 25 pts each and MC + a few bonus questions); Imp to attend class for lectures even though PowerPoints are on Moodle; He's a cool professor though. He's not hard at all
I was told by a friend to take this class. Now, let me be the friend to tell you to take this class. Great guy, leave your phone in your school back because you don't want to miss this mans hilarious and great lectures.
Honestly, Dr. Hermann was one of the best professors I've ever taken. And I think it's mostly because out of all the relatively boring history classes I've taken, this is the first class that actually made me interested in what happened. He is hilarious, knows an incredible amount about his subject and overall cares about your understanding.
History is history but Dr. Hermann does a great job at keeping everyone interested in what he is talking about. Throws in funny jokes and lets the class know when there is going to be a "pop quiz". He is caring and I would definitely take him again.
Take notes or you won't pass! Hated the class, but loved the professor.
Love him! Was hilarious. Made lectures bearable and truly loves the topic. I have never liked History until I had him as a teacher. Pet peeve is showing up late. Tests are easy, you can ask ?s about the study guide and he'll answer. Listen in his lectures and take notes to keep up. Fair grader and good guy. Bonus: has 4 bunnies- never met the buns
A beautiful jewel of a person. He keeps his lectures interesting and is unendingly upbeat. Easy grader and you actually walk away feeling like you've learned something. If you show up late he'll be aggravated and might call you out. Make sure to take notes, he normally gives at least one of the test essay questions and the broad answer in lecture
Dr. Hermann is like the cool uncle everyone wishes they had. His lectures are so entertaining and keeps you engaged. Tests are easy, be ready to write two essays for each test. If you show up and pay attention you will pass. He is very chill and is very easy to talk to.
Dr. Hermann is overall a good professor. He lectures pretty much by telling a story, and you must take your own notes. He assigns readings for every class and gives pop quizzes so make sure to do the readings and answer the questions. The reading questions are the same as the quiz questions and are given ahead of time.
Honestly one of the best professors you can have. He tells you when you will have a "pop quiz", check over you papers if you email them to him, and give you study guides. Like every class you will take, it gets boring but he is a funny dude and will definitely keep you entertained.
Hermann is the best history professor ever. All others fail to compare. Look no further. Take his class. You will love it. Out.
Lectures were extremely unorganized and near impossible to gather substantial notes that proved useful for identification heavy exams. Had a tendency to make rude comments if he didn't agree with a student and was just generally unpleasant to be around . Requires multiple books that are difficult to find. He also ALWAYS goes over on time.
Dr. Herman was awesome. He's funny, and passionate but moody. Very clear about course expectations. 2 papers, 3 tests. Readings are from three textbooks and Moodle readings. Expects class participation but he loves when students bounce ideas around. I found all three textbooks on amazon for less than $50 total. 2 of which i downloaded to kindle.
Amazing professor! His lectures are so fun and he tries his best to make it interesting. Read the moodle reading because there are pop quizzes and be prepared to write two essays for each test.
Show up, take notes and it's an easy A. No exams - but there are many papers.
Dr. Hermann is one of the best history professors I have ever had. He's funny and makes the material fun by adding his own way of explaining things. His tests are pretty easy if you listened in class and took notes. You only have two papers and he's clear about what he wants. He lets you email him your rough draft!
Dr. Hermann is a great, funny, endearing professor. You can tell that his students that have taken him before really respect him. Creates a great class environment. However, this class had an insane amount of weekly readings.. Other than that, 8 small papers due and one final paper. No finals or quizzes. Take his classes; you won't be disappointed.
Dr. Hermann is a very good professor! 2 papers, 2 tests, and a final. Pop quizzes are hinted at in advance AND he will proofread essays for tests and papers if you send in a draft 24 hours before the assignment due date or test. He can tend to be moody, but his sarcastic humor and ability to give relatively entertaining lectures make up for it.
By far one of the funniest professors. His class is pretty difficult especially for a freshman . But if you pay attention to lectures you'll make a good grade. Only two papers but you can submit your rough draft within 24 hours due date and he will critic it for you. Beware that on test you have to write 2 essays with at least 3 paragraphs each.
A great man who knows what he is talking about. I loved listening to him talk and found him very easy to learn from. A few tests and two papers, but he makes everything very clear. A few pop quizzes too, but the readings are generally easy.
He assigns readings for every class, which arent really necessary unless there is a pop quiz. He talks the entire class period and if you start to pack up before the last minute, he will say something, but his lectures are really engaging. If you truly pay attention, take notes, & study, tests are easy! He also grades super easy on essays!
Most interesting history class I've taken. Make sure to take notes and keep up. Gives a study guide and essay questions before exam. Knows his content and tells it like a story. Time flew by if paying attention. Easy A if you pay attention and take notes.
Dr. Hermann is a great teacher, he really makes history come alive. He really funny as well. However, his tests are really hard, when he says he wants and essay, he really wants a 3-paragraph discription, not an essay witha conclusion. He wants it overflowing with information, so the best thing is to overdo your assignments!
Dr. Hermann was super helpful even in this hellscape of a semester. he was always ready to talk to students and provide helpful feedback. His class was easily the most enjoyable one I had this semester. A weekly response paper based on the reading, but you only had to do 8. You could do more and he would take the 8 highest. 10/10 recommend.
Only gave us two exams with a couple of pop quizzes. The exams are part multiple choice and part essay questions. He makes a study guide for his exams that are exactly the ones he gives, but he expects 2-3 pages worth of essay on that part of the exam. His lectures are not good, so the textbook is required.
I took the online class which had less assignments and writing than the in person class. Normally it seems like the quizzes would be short answer but the online was multiple choice. I greatly enjoyed his lectures, but I am also a nerd. So some of you may find him boring but he tells you what you need to know and provided the textbook free of charge
I would argue that Dr. Hermann is one of the most respected instructors in the history department at ULL. His unparalleled intellect, compounded by his wonderful feedback and assistance, make him an excellent mentor. I am grateful to have known him as both my professor and advisor.
I loved this class and that says a lot because I don't normally like history. you will have 2 papers and he will literally review them for you if you send them before the due date. His lectures are long but interesting and his test is really easy if you pay attention in class lol.
Dr. Hermann has been teaching history for over 10 years. Your grade will consist of 2 papers, 4 moodle reading quizzes, and 3 tests (including the final). He gives study guides that have 50 identification terms and 4 essay questions. 25 terms and 2/4 essay questions will be on the test. He also has a short temper so try to get to class on time.
Dr. Hermann is amazing! He genuinely cares about his students and cracks jokes in class. If you have to take a history, take him!
Hermann is a great professor, and his class is very clear cut. 3 exams, 2 papers, 6 pop quizzes. He gets mad at students who talk during class or don't listen to him. He was understanding when my mother passed and I couldn't be more grateful. 100/10 would recommend Hermann for any history class. Take good notes on his lectures and you'll pass.
Extremely lecture heavy and does not provide information leading to different information among students, causing a big issue on information that does not come straight from him. Is not self aware on topics leading to and uncomfortable class environment at times.
Nice guy but lectures are too long. Tends to have class favorites. Provides too many articles to read every week and content is boring. Wouldn't recommend.
While attendance does not affect your grade, he does not post the information said in class so you will have to get notes from someone if you miss. He pretty much lectures the whole time, but he keeps it kind of entertaining. Just go to class and take notes and you'll do good.
Does not use Moodle's online grading; he expects you to do the math yourself to calculate your grade. Additionally, he's come to class very angry about outside things and made lectures quite awkward/tense at times. That said, Dr. Hermann is a very smart man and teaches history very well. If you make an effort, he'll do what he can to help you too.
I took Professor Herman again for 371 after having him for 100. His lectures are very interesting. Had 2 essays and 3 at home exams. He technically didn't take attendance but participation matters. His lectures are also critical for the exams and essays.
Professor Hermann's lectures are engaging, and he provides useful study guides. While attendance is mandatory, the class is manageable with good notes and review of the free textbook. I found Unstuck study helpful for exam prep alongside other study tools.
