He's class is hard. Take him only if you can teach yourself. The homework(s) he assigns (for a grade) and the problems he does in class do not correlate with the type of questions he asks on the exams. But he does provide a review session before each exam along with a review sheet which does help a little.
Take at your own risk. He gives quizzes on material that isn't covered in class. Even if you successfully complete a lab, it is almost impossible to make an A (or even a B) on your lab write-up. His standards are inconsistent and his expectations are unrealistic. He made this lab harder than it should have been.
His lectures are incomprehensible. In addition to that, he does not like the org chem textbook that is being used by UHD and so he covers materials that are from a different textbook in lecture. This being the case, reading the textbook used at UHD would not guarantee a passing grade. His grading system is bizarre and is inconsistent.
His exam/ assignment questions are unclear. His lectures are unclear. If you know how to make him favor you and you have no problem understanding his lectures, this class is good for you. Otherwise, do not take this class. You have been warned.
Do not take him because there is no point to it. His Labs are too hard and too technical. The questions in his quizes are were not taught so you really have to teach yourself if you want to pass. This descriptions are unclear; although he is a cool guy, but cool wont teach you what you need to know neither will it pass. STAY AWAY

N organic lecture spends alot of time things u wont b tested on&breases over test things. he does offer study sessions 2 help prepair 4 the test but thats just as bad as the lecture when the stuy guide is nothing like the test. HW is a grade its HARD practicing all problems in the book will not guarantee a good grafed because his problems r harder
he is not a good professor. avoid him if you can.
He is hard, and somethis hard to deal with. But he is always here to answer the questions, and he keeps his office hours. He is very patient, and he will go over the material as many times as needed. I didn't do that well in the class, and I had to study a lot at home, but is an Organic Chemistry, not an art class.
I understand is Organic Chemistry but he does not know how to teach. He goes too fast and somehow he does not cover the material in one or 2 days, he makes students come 15 minutes early that is so unfair for other students.
He deduct points if you redo anything even if you had a the time you need. I feel like I get punished for trying to do a better job. Worst professor I've had so far.
He is a very bad instructor. He doesn't focus on what is important and skips around on the board. He gives the only A in the lab to a person he likes and the rest will get B, C, and F's.
I got an A in Dr. M's Orgo Chem but I wanted to review so I sat in on his class one day. The diff was night and day. Jose was horrible and didn't teach what the book and ACS covered at all. I feel sorry for his students because they are not learning what need for the MCAT and PSAT or even biochem
Don't feel like I learned as much as should have. I got an A in the class but I think it was because he liked me. He gave me more points than my bf for some of the problems we both missed. Overall he is terrible so stay on his good side.
If you ask him something in his office hours he'll accuse you of not paying attention in class and dock you more points on the exam when you get something wrong. If he doesn't like you he will grade harder.
This class is hard no way around it. Understanding the key concepts in the chapter is much more helpful than rote memorization. Yes, you have to read the textbook on your own. However, Dr. Jose is more than willing to help his students understand the material. Also, Dr. Jose will provide practice exams before each exam that are very helpful.
You have to go to his office hours if you want an A. He grades easier if he thinks you are trying. His tests are pretty difficult and tricky. He has a bad attitude towards certain kinds of students.
He has a bad attitude towards students. His tests are not like his lectures and he does not focus on what is most important in class. I wish I had Dr. M instead.
Just a bad instructor all around. My MCAT course is so tough because I didn't learn anything in his Organic Chemistry classes. He acted nice but he didn't do a good job teaching us.
Dr Jose is not a bad professor, he's standards are high but if you study hard and keep up with the homework you should be fine in the class.
Dr. Jose does not come close to Dr. M when it comes to teaching Organic. His attitude and his lesson plans all needs to be improved.
This guy can't teach. He should stick to research
I don't wear my seatbelt when driving to school because I want to die before I make it to this class.
Organized and knows his stuff. He may rush things, but this is a very good teacher, especially if you go to class having reviewed a little bit.
He rush through the content. Unless you can teach yourself most of the stuff, you are not going to do well in this class. Forget about being prepare for the second organic class.
Study hard on your own. Ask him if you don't understand something cuz he's willing to help. You have to show him you are really trying and really want to do well in this course. I made an A because I tried hard. Organic Chemistry is not easy. You need to spend a lot of time to read the text and do the homework. You'll be fine.
This guy can't teach. He'll explain things wrong and won't even correct himself. Be prepared to use the book and teach yourself for the whole class.
Jose can't teach worth anything. Even reading the book and studying as much as possible won't help you pass. His tests are ridiculous too.
Not everyone who knows organic can teach it. This is the case with Dr. Jose. Exams have material he hasn't covered. Never avaialable during office hours. Ruthless in his grading. Exams are long and you're only given hour and 15 minutes. This guy needs to quit A.S.A.P. makes mistakes on test doesnt correct till halfway through exam
He is very very tough. It's hard to say anything positive about his teaching style. I've been in college for 4 yrs and he is, by far, the worst professor I've had. If I could do it over again, I would postpone my graduation to avoid him. I gained very little chemistry knowledge and understanding from him. It was a waste of time and money.
I loved organic before taking his class. He gets confused in every lecture at least 3 times with concepts. He goes through basic concepts and ask much deep questions on tests. He will make you look down if you approach him even if you are a top student in the class. If you don't believe me, LOL, then take him and I will see your comment like mine.
This class was such a joke. The easiest chemistry class I have ever taken. Exams are basically what are given in practice exams and class lectures. He gave tons of extra credit. You would think that there would be a lot of critically thinking problems on the exams, but there weren't. All questions were just conceptual. Very little studying done.
Students blame difficult course material on him. He is a very thorough lecture giver. We had a "flipped" class but it turned out to benefit us more than I expected. He gives ample opportunities to get extra credit and will lecture you on anything you don't understand during office hours. He is funny during class and keeps you interested.
Flipped lecture format, does not teach in class, just assigns problems to work on in groups.
Dr. Jose is a terrible instructor. He never gave students back the grades for the lab report. He is also very unorganized. Do not take this professor if you care about your GPA.
He is nice but he can't teach at all. Good thing that his quizzes show up on final exam. What bugged me was he made us buy lab book but did not use after 2 experiments. So you might want to wait and see.
Organic is not hard, but exams, quizzes and HW are tricky, and the grading is not in your favor, miss 3 on an exam and it's a B. And all the multiple choice questions have choices of 'all the above', 'none', 'I and II', 'III and IV', etc. Nothing is clear cut. But Dr. Jose is willing to help if you visit him, and show you are trying your best.
I took Dr. Jose for lecture. I just want to say he was helpful and fair to everyone. I did not see favoritism to any specific group. But he did like ppl who went to office hrs and showed they were taking the material seriously. These ppl were of all ethnicities. In the end I made an A, and I am not Indian.
Horrible professor. This instructor is extremely unprofessional and talks down to students. He has a preference for Asian students.
Organic chemistry is difficult, so many will blame the professor. I also noticed a lot of students didn't study quite often which explains why many failed. Dr. Jose is a good professor. He teaches the material quite well, but do expect to study or you will fail. Most of his test questions were relative to his lectures. Study or fail.
Like the other student pointed out, he does talk down to students. If you did not experience his rudeness throughout the semester, you are lucky. Good luck if you have to take his class. Please him at your best. He also has heavy Hispanic accent FYI.
The WORST PROFESSOR I have ever taken, he messed up alot in his online videos and in class and he is hard to get ahold of outside of class. He is the only Organic lecture professor and his office hours are just one hour a day for 4 days. He is not helpful and unapproachable. STAY AWAY!!!!
I personally did not experience him talking down to student, however this class is insanely difficult. It's not that the material is difficult to grasp, it is his exams that KILLS your grades. If you love chemistry, and you come to this class thinking you'll make an A, you are wrong. You'll probably make a B at the most.
Your grade is strictly on exams, final and TBL. That is it. It's nearly impossible to make a decent grade in the class because there's no way to save your grade if you fail an exam.
He is amazing! A really good teacher, makes it so simple.
OK, he is the only one teaching the course. If you want to only read the bad reviews, go ahead. In my opinion, he is a good professor. He is always available for students. The tests are what he talks about in class, nothing from outside. A tip: Do the pre and post hwks early. DO not take the class with other hard upper levels, make it a priority.
He completely changed his teaching method this semester (in a good way), so don't rely too much on the negative reviews. If you go to his office hours regularly, you will pass. You really have to know the material back to back and know how to apply in all kinds of directions. VERY TEST HEAVY. If you miss 3 questions on an exam, it's a B.
This professor is unprofessional and condescending. He asked an African American student if he breathes for extra credit in front of the whole class. The student just asked the instructor if he gives extra credit and Dr. Joseph reacted in an unprofessional manner. This instructor is terrible, avoid him at all cost.
Tough class but he is good.
After taking a year of Organic Chemistry with Dr. Jose, I have to say it wasn't that bad. In fact, it was very easy if you read the book by David Klein before coming to lecture. He was always available for office hours. The problem with this course is students love to exaggerate its difficulty. Focus and you'll do fine. He's a great instructor.
Be at least 1 chapter ahead of class so you can pick up your mistakes early in the semester. Always complete hw early so you can ask questions if you're not sure of something. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS and you will walk away with at least a C. Lecture is fast-paced, so if you don't understand something, GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS.
VERY accessible. Yes, his offic hours are only an hour long, but you can make appts and he WILL be there. If you have a brief understanding of a concept, he will solidify during his office hours if youre asking the right questions. If you just memorize everything on the ppt, you wont do well on the exam. You must understand the concepts!
Organic chemistry is hard. Teachers who are good at teaching this course acknowledge this and provide avenues for you to prove you conceptually understand the material. Teachers who are bad at this, grade you on three tests and there is no chance to save your grade. He is the only professor who teaches this course at UHD. Take this class at CC.
Not helpful at all, he does not have much availability for office hours and he is not accessible outside of the classroom. He can be condescending in class with his tone. Organic chemistry is not easy, but it is also not hard. With his teaching style, he makes a tough material even harder. Take this course at a community college or another univ.
Avoid him at all costs!!! Very difficult person to deal with. Likes roasting students. Does not care if you pass or fail as he refuses to have an SI for this very challenging class. Very tough grader. If you decide to take him, stay away from him and learn all the stuff on your own. He likes to rush thru slide. My advice, take it at a comm. college
Take this course at a community college and then transfer it. Dr. Jose does not explain concepts well nor does he explain them correctly. He had to be corrected many times. Organic chem is not hard, but if its not taught properly, it makes it much more challenging to learn it. Do NOT waste your time or money.
worst ever,
Dr. Jose was a really good professor. If you go to class, pay attention and ask questions you should be fine. He is very helpful when you ask him questions. He gives homework with WileyPlus but its helpful for lecture. Make sure you read ahead of time and study a lot!
I took him last year, and I'm surprised by his low ratings. I'm currently studying for the MCAT, and I'm glad I took orgo with Dr. Jose because he really prepared me for this subject. Yes, the content is difficult but he explains everything you need to know. It helps if you record his lec because he does talk fast. Go to his office hrs for help
I studied for this course a month in advance. I was able to follow his lectures without having much questions about the topics. Exams were a bit tricky, I highly suggest you re-read the questions. I got an A by studying ahead of time, asking questions, and by doing at least 10 practice questions per section. YouTube videos are a great source.
Y'all need to give him a break. Took him for both orgo1&2, and did good in both. I'm now tutoring orgo to individuals at various universities and their content is not as organized as Dr. Jose's. Types of questions they get asked on exams/quizzes are a lot more difficult. If you're going to take orgo at a univ, it can't get easier than this.
I studied orgo ahead of time because I was preparing for the DAT so my review may be a little biased. I have to say though, his lectures are very organized and easy to follow. Exam questions were fairly straightforward in my opinion, and he wasnt bothered by the number of questions I asked during office hours. Hes willing to help if you ask.
I'm a postbac student who got a bachelors degree from an Ivy League in New York City. Robin Jose's class wasn't necessarily an easy A. However, I did learn a lot and I did get A's both semesters. Prioritize this class and you'll be fine. He teaches the fundamentals that are necessary to do well on organic chemistry questions on the MCAT.
People who gave him bad reviews clearly did not seek help. He was extremely helpful during office hours and was always available when I needed to ask questions. His lectures are very organized and the type of questions he chose for exams were very fair.
His lectures are so easy to follow. I always study ahead before lecture, and it helps solidify the concepts. I studied before class, took really good notes during lecture, AND did 10 practice problems after each class to make sure I really understood. You really need to put in the effort for this class
Dr. Jose is an amazing professor. He truly cares about his students and he does his best for us to understand the topics. He gives a lot of examples with detailed explanations and he's very patient. His lectures are amazing, pay very close attention to the them, participate and do a lot of practice and you'll succeed in this course.
I am surprised by the number of positive comments. He gave us exams on the same topics as the other classes when we were behind and never covered them. He rushed the last two most important chapters & no EC. The only reason I got a B was only because of the tutoring sessions. Unless you want to die inside, just don't. He ruined so many 4.0 gpas
Tough but quality professor. He is very knowledgeable and thorough during his lectures. I attended his office hours and he was very helpful and patient. Now, this class was very hard work. I began studying weeks before class started with the textbook. I attended each lecture. Took good notes. Did the pre/post HW. I had to earn the grade.
Organic Chemistry II is very difficult and even more difficult online. Dr. Jose goes pretty fast in class but you can always ask him questions and he will explain. My advise is to do the chapters and take notes BEFORE class and write down questions on what confuses you, do not fully rely on the SI, go to Dr. Jose's office hours if you need it.
If you can do yourself a favor and don't take him. He just speeds thru lectures and doesn't teach anything. The only thing keeping me afloat is the S.I sessions. Basically, if you take him you basically need to teach yourself good luck.
Reading the other reviews had me nervous before this course. However, I found Dr. Jose to be a great professor and the tests were exactly like what he taught in the class. As long as you come to class, pay attention, and put some practice in after class you will do just fine. Gives extra credit on exams.
Had him for both Ochem 1 and 2 and he was the same for both. 80% of the grade was the exams. He has mixed reviews because his teaching style isn't for everyone. SI Sessions did help a lot for the exams.
How does this professor have such a low rating I'll never know. He's so funny in class and his homework and exams are reasonable for the content he gives. Do NOT miss class if you can. As for the people saying he has a thick accent... where? I can understand him just fine. HW questions appear on exams as well. GREAT professor.
I LOVED THIS PROFESSOR. Lots of opportunities for extra credit. Much easier than Dr. Brown. His lectures are fun and engaging. HW questions can be found on exams. For anyone taking this course, I highly suggest you get a three-ring binder and hole punch the powerpoints to put them in there. Want to pass the class? Study 8 hours a week.
I originally gave this professor a great rating. However, he never updated grades throughout the semester. You could not sense the urgency of upcoming exams or drop the class. You would think that would give him a little more grace when grading. Shame on him, if I could've seen I wouldn't pass I would've dropped and not wasted hundreds of dollars.
The last two positive reviews before May 19 were both mine. I wish I could take them back. Do not take this professor if you want someone who gets mad at you for taking advantage of the extra credit and rounds up student grades for others but not for someone in a genuine emergency. He never answered my emails until the end of the semester.
Never answered my emails, judged me for taking advantage of extra credit. He didn't curve grades despite putting them in late. Thanks for the extra $1300+ out of pocket to redo it in the summer, and precious time taken away from visiting loved ones. Hope karma pays him back.
He was a decent teacher, despite reading off slides. Lots of practice questions in class and plenty of extra credit. But after taking this orgo class, I literally am switching my major from Chemistry to a different major despite being signed up for fall classes already.
Great professor, but the subject material is intense. Don't just study the night before and expect to get a good grade. His exams are very fair and are similar to the homework, book, and class problems. He gives lots of e.c. As long as you pay attention and not cheat on your homework, you'll be fine. I prefer him over all over Orgo professors.
This professor is EXCELLENT! The ratings had me nervous but as long as you attend his office hours and he realizes that you are TRYING! He will definitely give you a nudge when it comes to grading. His teaching style is very intense which I understand why.
The txtbook is necessary, meaning you will truly benefit from it. Most classes, I don't use, it's hard to read. This txtbook is easy to follow, all pp slides are from book, went he zooms through lectures, the book expands what he had to fly through (lots to study, too little time.) Read lesson prior to class to follow smoother. Don't avoid txtbook.
Tests are very difficult. need to read all textbooks to understand. If you want to have a good grade A or B, spend a lot of time. NOT recommend.
This professor is not bad. He does it job. But i will definitely not take it again. He gives you everything you need to know in his lectures DON'T MISS ANY LECTURE ESPECIALLY THE END OF THE SEMESTER LECTURES. if you want to pass the course, STUDY!! do flashcards, do ALL the homeworks! And do the extra credit sheet, and do well on the iclicker.
Dont know why ppl hate him. He's really sweet. Remember, orgo will be one of the hardest classes you will ever take as an undergrad. So put in the effort! The class is not like Gen Chem courses where you can get As just by glancing over the material! You have to sit down and dedicate hours! Draw molecules, use his free T.B and attend office hours!!
Attend all lectures Don't miss any! T.B is optional but would recommend reading + solving practice questions. Orgo 2 is harder than 1. Put in the effort! Don't take too many classes if you plan on doing 2! Attend office and bring in yo questions-this is how you learn+Put in the time! ya can get 100s just by doing TB and attending office + SI!!!
This class is one of the harder chemistry classes as everyone has heard. He grades hard and you must put in the work/time to get a good grade. Retaking this class. Taking O-chem 2 at a different college..
One of the hardest chemistry courses that will be taken. Grading distribution is flawed, and are based heavily on exams, leaving no space for mistakes. It's the only professor teaching the course as well, which makes it hard to avoid. If possible, take somewhere else.
I don't know why Dr. Jose has so many low ratings. This is a hard course. You can't expect the professor to put in all of the effort for you. Dr. Jose is a great lecturer. He may speed through things every now and then but it's because there is so much to cover. DON'T MISS LECTURES! Announcements are in person because he wants students in class.
Organic Chemistry is a tough course, but having Dr. Jose as a professor makes it 10 times worse. Our final exam is next week and he has yet to put in any grades on Canvas. I've pulled several all-nighters and the highest test score I've gotten all semester is a 75%. Exams are worth 85% of your grade. Will be retaking at a different school.
He is tough for sure and hates some students
Never ever ever again ! Horrible
Terrible. The course relies heavily on tests and doesn't have much to make up for it. Should reevaluate the structure of the course.
Their is no retest for the 3 test , you can get extra credit which is 4 points. You need to study, study in order to understand the topics in class , the teacher is fast paced sometimes hard to understand. Don't take it with these teacher if you know you are going to struggle in this class.
He knows his stuff but there is no room for error in his class. Tests make up 85% of your grade and he does not curve, just offers 4 bonus points on each test if you fill out a goal setting form he provides. You get your homework and tests back, but he does not put any grades on Canvas.
HW and exam review problems are a good way to gauge your level of understanding for the exams. I highly recommend going to office hours for any questions as well as the weekly SI sessions to get more practice. Even if you took the greatest professor in the world, it would require lots of practice outside of lecture.
I rarely write reviews, but my experience with Professor Jose Robin was so disappointing that I feel compelled to share. Unfortunately, my experience with this professor was far from positive.
Okay yall, so I'm just a regular student like yall but you guys need to realize in order to get an A in this class you need to actually open the textbook and study. He's a very very hard lecturer and the class grade is mainly from exams 80-85%. So guess what, if you me
Organic Chemistry is a hard class. He really encourages students to visit him during office hours. Come with any questions, it will beneficial. Good and organized professor, will bump you if he sees you trying. He curved our grades at the end, cause I was supposed to get a D and not a C. He passed all of us. Study hard, Dr Jose is good.
Anyone who says that Dr. Jose sucks has no idea what Orgo is about! I took him for both orgo 1&2 and got A+ on all exams. Absolutely beautiful times!!!!!! Pay close attention and ask questions; he encourages them. Do practice problems and don't skip a single class; his exam and hw come directly from the lectures. Go to office hrs and ask questions.
Organic Chem with this professor is brutal - tests make up 85% and there's no room for error. Definitely use unstuck study, ChatGPT, and the free textbook to prepare. Go to office hours too.
Dr. Jose is strict NOT unfair or mean. He's very helpful during office hours and goes into details for lectures. This class isn't one he'll let you brush by; he'll make sure you understand what's going on throughout. Homework questions are on exams, 4 extra points are given each test for simple things, etc. He is extremely fast at lecturing though!
Took OChem I lab and lecture. He has a certain format of what he expects but tells you exactly how to follow it (i.e for prelabs/formal lab report/extra credit). He is though SUPER helpful and lenient if he see's you actually trying. I will say both his lab midterm and final were pretty difficult as it was conceptual details rather than a procedure
Awful and the only one available, his teaching doesn't make sense , be prepared to watch 5 chapters lecture in the same day , and be around 29 other students who failed his class multiple times it's a miracle if u pass from the first time , not sure why the university haven't fired him yet .. the highest grade you gonna see is ranging from F to C-
MY WORST CLASS EVER TAKEN ONLY BECAUSE OF THE ATMOSPHERE CREATED BY THIS INSTRUCTOR ! Lectures were rushed, help was nearly impossible to get, and communication felt cold and dismissive. Some students clearly got more attention than others. This class caused a lot of stress. AVOID if you value clear teaching and fair treatment.
Dr. Jose is a caring instructor, he is available Mon-Thurs during office hours for help, go!!!!! He replies quickly to emails. Attendance is mandatory, tests mimic homework and daily practice. I highly recommend doing the daily practices. He offers extra credit. Those who complain do not prioritize the time to attend office hours and study.
