she is tooo soft!! exams are OKAY!!
A nice lady but she seemed rather unenthusiastic about a really exciting subject - astronomy. Lectures involved alot of copying from the blackboard and nothing more.
Her teaching skills are not that great. She needs to find another method. It would be so much helpful if the notes that she makes us write was in a course kit instead.
She is very boring, needs to find a better method of teaching interesting content.

teaches okay...but is very boring...doesn't try to create more interest between the students and the subject matter. she should feel great that she has such an interesting topic to teach (colour)...

Good prof~ She is willing to answer your question, and really helpful~~ The exams are ok if you study the note~~She speaks very clearly. She uses variety ways for teaching this course. I think I would definitely choose her class in the future~~
she is very easy going during class, but i think her marking is a little harsh~ but she is very nice~ her teaching style is not like university, is more liek high school~ but is pretty good :D no text book is the best~
Nice prof, grading's not so tough. She's eager to help students, but to some questions asked in class her asnwers were always "i don't know". Just take her course if u r willing to learn something interesting and not needing to go too deep in sc

She is a wonderful lecturer and a great person. If I majored in science I would take all her classes!
EXCUSE ME????????OH this prof is very unusual in terms of her teaching method....HIGH SCHOOL!!!!!oops RATS RATS RATS RATS...THATS ALL SHE SAYS ..lol j/k ....and also i think she adores MAXWELL because she talks about his theory of 1856 and that her confirms****...and also ..shhhhhhh im not supposed 2 say that but she likes putting MAXWELL on a tes
hard to understand what she is talking about. she jumps all over the place. doesnt post notes and just scribles on the board :(
Super boring, extremely monotone, absolutely no personality, the longest 3 hours of my life!
Teaches incredibly simplistic material and still feels the need to repeat herself three times over. Could cover so much more material if she didn't baby us.
This course is really easy. The material is interesting and there is no textbook. yes the prof is a little boring and writes everything down and goes over it 2-3 times but that makes the course easy. there are 2-3 easy assignments. Go to every class and take notes.tests are straight from the notes she writes down on the board.no surprises. EASY A!
one word from me.. dont take this course !!! take something easier. if you are not good at science, then this course will kill you...
her tests are very hard but the 3 assignments are ok.. she doesn't teach us too well, some of the material on tests were never talked about in class. her lectures are all over the place so it's very hard to study and understand things. bad choice taking this class.. causes me more stress than anything.
boring, and speaks very low, but easy materials though. monotone, makes it really hard to engage in her class.
The sweetest lady! She is soo knowledgable and extremely interested in her content! her teaching style is very 'high school' which makes it extremely attainable to succeed! exams are fair and straight forward! highly recommend taking any class with her!!
Robin is a great Prof. Very little math involved and the content was quite interesting! Assignments were easy and exams were straight forward. Yes, she may have a monotonious tone but she really does have a passion for the content. She is very accomodating and overall cares for your wellbeing. Attend the lectures, be engaged and study- EASY A.
i found that she was all over the place in lecture but its not bad since she types up class notes, assignments were super easy and tests were based on what she taught in lecture. i'm horrible at science but this was a easy course, go to class once in a while and just ASK if you dont understand something, she's super nice and will explain
Amazing prof, will be there to help if you ask for it.
Great prof! She made me like science and astronomy. Amazing lectures. Covers everything broadly and answers all questions. There are too many tests but if you study for them and do all your assignments carefully, good results are achievable. Definitely take her course. She's literally great!
She's a very sweet, passionate prof. There is a lot of material she covers, and pretty quickly so be ready to take tons of notes. Exams are hard, but very straight forward. if you study, you will do fine. She puts up review questions every class which makes it easier to study when it comes times for exam.
Kingsburgh is great. No readings. Her assignments encourage students to actually learn. Her tests are tough, but she helps students prepare. Some concepts are hard, but she simplifies them and helps non-science students follow. Success is tied to effort in her class - work hard and you can get an A or A+. Attend class, take good notes and study.
Assignments are interesting and fairly easy and you have a lot of time to work on them. Her tests are very HEAVY, lots of material to know. However, she prepares you, she's always willing to help, answer questions and stays after class. She provides lecture reviews after every class and thats all and those are directly on the test. 3 tests 3 assig
Her 3 assignments are easy & encourage critical thinking. However, her tests are ridiculously hard. I have never failed a test in my life before taking this course. Her test review is NOT enough to do well. Do the review and answer all the lecture questions after each lecture to be able to do well. Don't be surprised to see moot points on the test
Sweet lady when you talk to her one on one, but her tests are way too hard! I think with the amount of time and effort she puts in her lectures would only be appreciated by someone who is majoring in science. I think for a general education course her class was quite hard. The short answer part of her tests seemed to be the hardest..
Great prof- her lectures may be long, but she really helps reduce material needed for exams. Assignments were easy 90s. She added bonus in-class quizzes to help the averages of students. Very caring, very accommodating and very funny! Videos we watched in class were mostly interesting. Definitely taking this course again!
Class was relatively easy, make sure to at the very least skim the readings, as they do pop up on the test! I found the assignments to be marked harshly but tests can definitely bring your mark up if you study. Very similar experience to NATS1570 Online (Exploring the Solar System).
Literally the worst class ever. DO NOT TAKE! She is a really tough marker the only thing that saves your mark is the online quizzes. Her exams are hard. If you dont show up too class you won't get the notes needed-she scribbles on the board. Super rude during class- SHE WILL CALL YOU OUT. Its a hard course despite what the websites might say.
as someone who loves space, i am very unhappy with this course.. so far it is my lowest mark, lowest i ever gotten. i don't know why tho, i just think it is being marked too harshly...
This professor is quite difficult. Not the best to speak with when having issues and tends to answer emails with attitude. Lecturebslodes arent helpful as most of the information is written on the board. Markers alsongive very little feed back and would appear to know very little about the course.
This professor was not the best. A bit rude when answering emails and not quite friendly during office hours. Class was a bit difficult for no reason and the lecture slides/notes are way too long. Not a horrible professor but not the best either.
Professor Kingsburgh is quite useless. She creates entire PowerPoints only to have the ACTUAL info we need written on the board. Her online quizzes don't correspond with any of the notes you take in the lecture, so chances are, you'll get 60% every time. She also calls people out, is passive aggressive, and marks terribly.
Honestly NATS1870 is not hard with other professors from what I heard. IF you get this prof drop her she is not worth the stress and pain that comes along with her passively aggressive attitude. I'm scarred by her high pitched voice saying "does anybody have any questions??". Her slides are useless because she decides to write them on the board?!?!
She doesnt know how to spell so its hard to take notes since she writes everything on the board
honestly terrible, marks too hard IMHO
Dr Kingsburgh has surpassed the ability to show how passionate she is towards the subject of astronomy. However, she must improve her grading style as she has set some difficult parameters around marking. You must be a prodigy in the avenue of astronomy to receive 90+ Her class average for this year was 60.
ABSOLUTELY WON'T TAKE ANY COURSES WITH THIS PROF AGAIN!!! This is not a hard course as I heard from my roommate. Why she make this so hard? and the lecture is boring as well. U dont even have a chance for sick if u dont have a good friend with good note-taking skills as well as good eye-sight for her notes in blackboard.....
Attendance is mandatory as she writes the notes on the board which is great as you won't miss anything once you attend. The instructions for assignments aren't very clear and they take forever to be graded and returned. For a general education course she makes it very difficult. The homework quizzes sometimes include things not covered in lecture
Understanding Colour (remember the u!) with Robin Kingsburgh was a great learning experience. There was care to return emails, set up special arrangements, bring examples for new modules, and reinforcing learning for all types of students. I enjoyed the labs. The topics were interesting and varied. Robin was proactive. The course is challenging.
She told us not to buy a textbook for the class, and gave lots of really interesting lectures. The lectures could be really heavy sometimes tho, especially near the end of the course, but she gives at least 1 break. She records lectures always when anything prevents students from coming like snowstorms, so you can catch up online.
her voice is monotone and boring. good luck trying to stay awake during her lectures. she is not helpful at all when it comes to accommodations. don't take her course it's horrible, and she piles on so many assignments that don't mean anything, I haven't learned one bit from her. waste of my money!!!!
worst prof don't not take this course if you don't have to. she's mean and passive and doesnt care about students. she does this for money and her lectures are monotone. watching a rock would be more interesting
She's a pretty easygoing prof and is pretty understanding. Just make sure you watch the lectures, I always sped them up because she talks slow but I took notes and ended up with an A. She actually has an interest in astronomy and I found the lectures pretty interesting. Just stay on top of the lectures and you'll pass with an easy A.
Prof was not understanding nor helpful during the COVID 19 pandemic
Her classes are super boring and heavy... I guarantee, you will never learn something from her lectures... All the tests and quizzes are basically memorizing everything without thinking. She goes too deeply unnecessarily information.
Robin is an excellent prof teaching a straightforward course. 3 projects, which are easy- unless TA marks hard (Robin will remark if you ask) and 3 exams. Lectures are recorded and uploaded online, so you dont really have to go to class if you keep up with your notes. Study hard and its an easy A. Content is like grade 10 science.
3 Tests and 3 exams. Exams were tricky bc they required so much info. No textbook needed. Prof is very passionate, though lectures can be heavy at times. Shes a sweet lady to talk to and wants you to learn from your mistakes. She is a solo prof (no TA/ prof #2) so she puts in 110%. Recommend you attend lectures - writes on the board. Ask questions!
there are no participation marks. but if you want to pass you must show up and take notes. very passionate prof, she is friendly after class. if you can please take a nap before class, her voice is monotone. the final class average is 72. make sure to be precise when writing the short answer questions. just stick to your notes and you'll be good.
I took Dr. Kingsburgh's History of Astronomy class and it was seriously one of the best classes I've ever taken! Wanna learn about the ancient pyramids, Stonehenge, black holes? A thoroughly interesting class. It was easy to get high marks, just copy everything she writes on the board and powerpoints. We got to watch some cool documentaries too!
Dr. Kingsburgh was such an amazing professor that didn't hide any criteria for success. I took her online course and she was very organized and made her assignments clear. If you pay attention and put some effort in your work, it will pay off. I wish I was able to restart her course, she made it very interesting!
The course NATS 1870 is not easy. The quiz and assignment are not easy to do well. They will grade your work strickly.
The professor is very impatient and does not reply to students' emails in the online course. I suggest not to take this professor.
There are no office hours each week and no email replying from the professor. I do not suggest people should take this course as an easy course.
The course is very long do not offer students with enough time to review for their exam.
Awful Professor, She doesn't care about her students at all , not even enough to email students back when they have concerns. She marks extremely hard, and WILL mark you wrong if your answer isn't worded how she wants it to be, even if the answer is right! I won't be taking any courses in the future is she is the prof...
The exam is very hard and does not allow her students to think carefully before doing the questions.
The exam organized in a mass. There are many issues during the exam and she does not reply to our emails for important concerns.
It is a very hard course and the professor does not want all students to get a good grade in the midterm exam.
It is not a good professor. She does not like to teach students equally and often does not reply to other students' emails.
The professor in this course is not good. There are questions unsolved in this course and it is very unlucky for you if you only have this professor to choose from.
The exam is graded extremely tough and the professor does not want us to get a good grade in the exam of NATS 1870.
Warning! Prepared for un replying emails and other very important issues unsolved for the professor in this course. She will wait for a very long time with no reply to her students' emails. Do not waste money on this course.
This prof does not respect international students and treats them badly. She often uses excuses to abuse her students. Do not go to her class !!!
This professor does not have a good attitude towards students in class and the email reply is very slow.
She is not a good professor and not willing to devote time to help her students. She has certain racial bias towards some students.
Extremely difficult, she graded assignments and exam ridiculously hard!
Took her online class. Lectures were posted but were long and monotone. If you follow her directions for assignments and tests, it's an easy way to get marks. She's not great at replying to emails, so if you have a question about assignments, you're better off asking a TA. Overall, pretty good course if you are interested in astronomy.
Lectures were very clearly discussed and fairly interesting. The weekly quizzes were useful as they actually made students have to fully review the week's lecture material. I wouldn't say this Is a bird course, at least not online. Lots of readings, quizzes and assignments (which are marked incredibly hard).
Her exams were very unreasonable and very difficult for what we were learning. This course is very time consuming as she expects a lot from her students. The good thing about her is that she takes out your lowest grades on quizzes and assignments.
This wasn't a bird course, but even if you aren't the best at science, the professor still does a pretty good job at teaching the concepts. The course is time-consuming though, and there are a lot of assignments and weekly quizzes, but she drops the lowest grades. The exams are a bit difficult but if you study you should be good.
I The whole course was online with just recorded lectures. There wasnt much interaction with her tbh. But she was accomadating and answered everyones questions. I took this as an elective, the course is kinda heavy and full of info since it is history. She's an okay prof like nothing special but nothing bad either
Took this for my gen ed requirement. Heard it was a bird course. This prof is very hard to contact and a regular 3 hour lecture took like 6 hours to get through (even at 1.5x speed). This prof is very monotone but if you just take lots of notes, you should be fine for the exam (very detailed questions on it). She drops lowest 2 weekly quiz marks.
Hands down, grades are nonsense here!
Great professor! Super heavy course (it's double speed tho) - most work I've put into a course. But the material is SO fascinating, and the prof does a really great job explaining complex physics & astronomy concepts in a way we can understand. Uses a lot of animations and videos too so great for visual learners. Definitely not a bird course tho!
Students must know that Professor Kingsburgh is a very fair professor. What you get, you deserve. You must to take into consideration that she is also dealing with hundreds of students but is still taking the time to help each individual. My advice to any student taking her NATS 1745 course is show up, put in the effort and you will do just fine.
So many quizzes. So many readings. I thought it was a bird course, I was so naive and wrong. Her lectures, delivered through online presentations, were PAINFUL to listen to. It was like watching paint dry. I regret every second I went through with this class. I was so young. I did not deserve this class.
Very caring professor towards her students and you can tell she cares a lot about astronomy.
Be ready to memorize a lot. However, she is really good at preparing students for tests. Quizzes are not that hard, as well as assignments. Midterm and final exam are both can be easily done by memorizing notes she makes while lecturing. No textbook - her slides are really easy to understand.
Literally made students go through the heaviest snowstorm in YEARS to go to an exam where she herself was late. Assignments instructions are very unclear and heavy. Definitely should show more mercy to students especially since this is a first year class.
not understanding at all and does not care about equal opportunities although she claims to. do not take this course with her.
She is overall such a precious teacher. people expect a bird course and get upset that it isnt. content heavy, but if you listen in lecture and do the quizzes it prepares you well for everything. She is clearly passionate about all the research she has done and has an engaging teaching style. All assignments were so fun! so interesting, learnt sm!
Do not take this thinking it is a bird course. It was really difficult with heavy content, and you need to know all the details of what's being learned in the course. The tests are hard. It is passable, yes, but I don't recommend taking this unless you have a passion for astronomy and have a lot of time on your hands.
Robin's lecture videos were monotone and hard to follow. She spoke really quietly in most videos; I had to turn the volume way up. I found both exams easy, but the two projects were very time consuming and were each worth 20% of the final grade. But she extended the deadline of the second project when the class rep asked her to, so that was good.
Lectures are interesting but heavy. The professor is so caring and easy grader.
Course: The Nature of Time (Gen Ed Requirement) Format: Mostly Online, Exams In-Person Horrible class. Way too much work for a Gen Ed, dense material, weekly tests, and bad communication from the professor. Felt completely on my own. Would not recommend for a Gen Ed Science course. Exams (15% each), a test every week (10%) and 8–9 assignments.
