This guy is one tough cookie and very monotone when talking about extra credit just turn on your ears more and you will have an alright time in his class. He is always willing to help just go up and ask him, Hint: TAKE LAB AT THE SAME TIME AS LECTURE!
He is a very good instructor; he knows his stuff. If you ask, he will help. There is always plenty of extra credit and he accepts assignments late with little or no penalty.
Lab is pretty hard but the regular class is pretty easy... he gives a ton of extra credit -- tip: do all of it. You will fall asleep though. zzzzzzzzzzz
He's a good guy. Offers A TON of extra credit. Only problem is the lecture kinda boring. Just ry to stay awake, but if you don't alwys willing to help you if you need it.
Tons of extra credit, tests are straight-forward, but you have to study to get a decent grade on them, if you don't there's tons of extra credit to fall back on.
OMG.....this guy is soooo boring. I am not kidding you when I tell you that by the end of the hour I wanted to pull my hair out. Drink LOTS of caffeine. The only interesting parts were he slides of Hawaii, but he did give a lot of extra credit a the end..
Teacher is very difficult. If you take the lab course with the class it is a lot easier, but if you dont then he is not only boring, but way to fast and unclear. Offers no help or review for test. No study guides, hard homeword and lots of studying!!!!!
Dr. Lyons is Boring, Rude, Sarcastic and bad at teaching. I got a worse grade in the lab than I did in lecture. The extra credit is the only thing that saved me. You'd need to memorize the book to get an A on the exams. HE WILL PUT YOU TO SLEEP!!!!!!!!!
Summer class. Yes i agree that its ZZZZ in lecture. In lab u get review sheets. Lots of extra credit for lecture not lab. Lab was u gota go to yosemite park! seriously i didnt read the text, i only read the study guide. gota A for lecture B for lab
Dr. Lyons' course is not difficult as he offers extra credit. I received a very good grade in his class. However, the man can be condescending, rude, patronizing, and a "general horse's ass". Perhaps the harsh, cold Canadian upbringing had an ef
I would not recommend this class to anyone. I dreaded going everyday. Very monotone and boring. Lots of slideshows and tons of reading. Tests are very hard, too. If you do take this course, do all the extra credit. ALL of it.
I don't recommend taking his classes.
take the lecture and lab at the same time, they cover the same material. you gotta put in the work to pass this class. i got an A in lecture, B in lab
He is so bad and unclear in his lectures. Canadians should not be allowed to teach. Also, he has had a couple of memorable rants about astrology and rap. He is the worst teacher Ive had at delta since Mersman and Gottfried for sociology. Thats a hat trick of bad teachers.
Prof Lyons is one of the best professors I have ever had. It was because of him that I am now in grad school going for an MA in geography. Get a life, people... if the class is a little hard you don't like it.Think about your future and get all you can out of it. Prof Lyons is very helpful. He cares.
Dr. Lyons was the best teacher I have ever had. This man is just full of information, all of which is very interesting. I was never bored in this class. I highly recommend him to anyone who needs a Geography class. He is the BEST!!!
his lectures are full of info.He goes into detail or concepts which he wants the student to understandm. Yet most of his test are base of on terms which you have to learn its more of learning vocabulary
His class was boring, but not to the point where you could fall asleep. His tests are DIFFICULT, but not hard! You have to read the book, but it is not hard to get an A in the class. His first test is harder that the rest, so don't be intimidated.
His classes are hard but gives a lot of extra credits to bring your grade up. Lectures are soooooooo freaken boring and expects Way too much in a short period or time. His lab class is even HARDER!!!
Teacher is straight up boring? he wears weird shirts that napoleon dynamite would wear. the class homework is basically easy if you have a book and actually take the time doing it. the exam/text can be very hard. I recommend you do all extra credit to have a chance to pass. good luck
Lyons rocks. He's the best teacher in the history of all teachers. If u get a chance, take Lyons, he's the man. He wears the coolest shirts too.
Not the most exciting class, but Lyons knows his stuff. Not the easiest, but not too difficult. I would definitely recommend it for someone looking to fill a gen. ed. requirement.
He's helpful and enthusiastic about the class. He also makes it interesting, and goes over anything that someone may not understand, until it is understood. I wouldn't drop this class or take any other instructor's courses. I'm content.

have to say I really liked the class. Maybe it was the subject but Mr. Lyons is a very nice canadian and loves the topic he teaches. I would recommend him to anyone who has to take a life science.
WoW... SO BORING I CANT EVEN STAND IT!!! Do NOT take his lab class whoa it will be the worst three hours of your life! Although he's a nice guy and he definately knows what he is talkin about he is totally boring in lecture, i can't ever pay attention. BUT his shirts are WAY cool--what kinda guy can get away with wearing geography shirts!? and he bikes to school with his globe tied on the back of his bike lol he's a great guy and really corny but don't take the class. spare yourselves i beg you.
he makes the topics interesting enough that you go home and apply them to life!!!
The class itself is boring and he tries his best to help but it is so hard to understand, he goes very fast and does not stay on the topic he kinda of flies around and it mixes you up.
Professor Lyons is very clear in his explaintions. He adds levity to the class with his jokes, no one is safe from him. Did you know that he is a international and nationally ranked badminton player?
This class is not very difficult of you do most of the work and readings. The tests are certainly not too difficult. He tries to make the class interesting by bringing in and talking about related or semi-related topics. His jokes are mostly kind of funny, there is no mercy. If you need help you get it.
This class is a cinch, though there are too many students enrolled. Even so, if you need help it is available. There are too many students who don't care and this slows the class down too much. If you are not interested in geography don't take the class.
haha dresses pretty old school, rocks some napolean dynamite looking shirts. class isnt hard just study and read at least somewhat or have a smart person sit next too you. also heard the lab was pretty easy. counts for physical science for genereal ed. probably easier than chemistry.
The class itself is boring but with the teacher combined is torture. Its hard to pay attention and not fall asleep!

The class is very boring and the teacher goes from topic to topic very quickly. I barely passed this class so do not take it!!
The worst teacher ever!!!
The class was relatively easy with my failing 3 of the four tests I managed a high C due to the homework and extra credit. If you take this class do all the hwk assign. andextra credit. Very boring lecture but once you catch on u remember the things for the test. The tests are very difficult however.
He's a cool professor, easy going and nice. Also, he gives a lot of extra credit. His class is interesting in the way that he tries to add comments and personal experiences.
He's a great teacher who cares about his students learning. If you care enough to take interest in the class, you can learn a lot. Tests are hard and there is lots to go over. Do the homework and xtra credit and you should go through the class just fine.
I think his class is really hard, but he does give a lot of extra credit. He is a pretty funny guy.
THIS CLASS IS SOOOO BORING. The teacher does what he can to make the class interesting but it is not at all. There is a lot of extra credit offered and hw about once a week. Pay attention to lectures if you dont fall asleep and you should be okay.
Mr. Lyons is a great teacher. Even thought I am not that interested in the subject I can respect a good teacher when I get one. He brings in lots of slides/manipulatives. He has been everywhere and loves to share his knowledge with us. He is funny and quite a character. One os my favorite teachers!
this class is booooooooring! he uses really old slides (not PP's, but actual slides) w/ monotone dialogue. do the homework, but it's really difficult sometimes. and DEFINATLY do the EC!!! there's a bunch of it. the tests are HARD, but do the ec, and you should be good.
THis is an awesome class and Lyons is a cool teacher. He is so laid back we just talk about California all class and watch movies. Snazzy dresser, lots of extra credit and a pretty interesting class.
Dr. Lyons is a sweet guy that has alot of knowledge of this subject. He does not make it easy on you but thats the whole point of learning its not supposed to be so easy that you dont remember anything. His lectures are interesting and the time goes by fast.
lyons is a respectable teacher and he loves geography. its only boring if you're not paying attention and you don't know what he's lecturing about. its not an easy course. make sure you attend class and take notes. do the homework and extra credit, especially the extra credit. that's what saves most students from a failing grade. the crossword puzz
continued) the crossword puzzles are very helpful. a lot of it are test questions. tests are multiple choice and are not extremely hard if u studied. the extra credit on the tests usually include some kind of calculation like elevation and arrival time. try not to sit near anyone because they will only be distraction. overcrowded class.
total jerk, just kidding great teacher very helpful super boring, but what a college class is suppose to be, nothing fancy nothing unneccessary straight info and test alot of people just cant seem to handle that. class is hard but he gives alot of extra credit to help us out.
The class is fairly simple show up take notes do hw & extra credit, you will pass the class. 3 midterms & a final if you dont do well on them just make sure you do the extra credit. 200 p. the whole semester in hw, 100 p. in extra credit. Its a 500 p. class. He is boreing when he lectures, but the class is worth it if you just need a passsing grade.
The class is boring but Mr. Lyons is really nice. He tries to be funny but the class is kinda hard. You will at least get a C if you do the homework and the extra credit. But teacher wise Mr. Lyons is a good guy.
excellent professor. the class can sometimes get boring but try and stay awake. He makes the class fun and interesting. Learn as much as you can from him.
His lectures are boring because you have to take notes and pay attention, but if you do your homework and read it prior to the test you will do fine! However, homeworks are from lectures so you have to be in class. he is nice. he knows a lot about geography! NICE TEACHER. extra credit very helpful .. up to 150pts
The guy knows his stuff, he just sucks at teaching. His lectures are horrible- he's completely unorganized and always goes off in tangents, then somehow relates everything to how when he lived in Hawaii - I swear I learned more about Hawaii than I did geography.PS- a lot of the info you need to do the work is NOT in the textbook
Do yourself a favor and read all the comments about him being a very poor instructor They are correct. Choose another professor so you will not have to drop him.

You've got to be kidding people! This is one of the best classes I've taken. Dr. Lyons is a real stand up guy. He's over-generous with the extra credit, he gives as much as 150+ points or nearly as much as the tests are worth. So what more do you want? Quit bellyaching about him being boring; pay attention to the wonderful material about our planet
He is as unclear as they come. Class sucks and is probably the most boring ever. Everyone fails his exams that is why doing the EC is a MUST! Sucks as an instructor, but if you show up and do your work you'll pass
One of the worst. Everything that was written about him is true. Best advice I can give, is do not take him.
You would think a class about rocks and maps is easier than a bio or chem class. It is, but slightly. Lyons gives a lot of info in his lectures, but there is a method to his madness. Get the Workbook/Study Guide, it organizes his lecture material. When I was happy getting a B I ended up with an A because of extra credit, SWEET!
With such profound comments such as "he sucks as a teacher" or "he's so boring," I can only assume the mental capacity (and attention span) of those individuals is about the equivalent of a goldfish. Mr. Lyons was hilarious. He does give a TON of info per lecture (attendance=important), but his exams are multi choice. There's enough EC to pass.
He is a very good teacher. Almost every question on his test is from lecture. He keeps the lectures interesting and he knows what he is talking about. If you are interested in geography, you will enjoy his class. Also, extra credit is available. Got to love that!!!
He is a very good instructor. I did not mind listening to him for 2 hrs. He uses his own examples to simplify the material. Geog is not exactly my favorite subject, but Dr.Lyons made it interesting. I am proud to say that I had him as an instructor. Geog is not that boring now. Make sure U do the extra credit, but also get good test scores!!!!!
Very good teacher! So nice and so adorable when laughing at his own jokes. I took him once but i dropped him cuz i thought he was hard. I took him again and class is so easy! all u gotta do is PAY ATTENTION and attend class and do homework (which is easy) everyday. he's funny, nice, and very helpful when u need. Would recommend him to anyone.
Very nice & helpful instructor. Easy class, all multiple choice test. You can jump 1 or 2 letter grade if you do the extra credit. Best if you take this with the lab. Be sure to listen to his success speech that the begining of class.
All his notes are on power point. So you learn visually by looking at real life photographs. He explains step-by-step. For homework, if you pay attention, he gives you the answers in his lectures, throws a joke every now and than, TONS of extra credit. I was failing, doing bad on the test (which were easy), but coz of the extra credit, I got an A.
He's cool. helpful. Lectures are fun. Lots of xtra credit
this class was very difficult. i ended up droppng it. he does not use powerpoint or give homework. only lots and lots of quizzes. the quizzes are taken from his lectures which can be very hard to follow. he does not use the book.
His class is really simple, but you have to pay attention. Half of the things he says are not written on the board so you have to take notes on that. But just to decent on the tests and quizzes and do all of the extra credit and it is a for sure A.
Dr. Loyns is extremely qualified to teach geography. He has traveled to many places throughout the world and he knows of what he speaks. Lectures can be hard to follow, just pay attention and take good notes. Tests are all multiple choice and are moderate difficulty. YOU ARE AN IDIOT if you don't do all of the extra credit. The extra credit= A or B
very hard teacher. prepare for a lot of quizzes. hes hard
This teacher knows his stuff. He is very helpful and if you take good notes and pay attention you will ace the test. Do all of the extra credit and it is almost impossible not to get an A!!!!
If you are looking for an easy science, this class is not for you. There is a quiz every class meeting. You must be able to take notes quickly. I suggest you do your homework or at least look over the questions before class because you have to get some answers from lecture. DO all of the extra credit! Nice guy but expects us to know what he knows.
CLASS WAS BORING!!! Dr.Lyons knows what he is teaching, but he was so boring. I sat in the front row and still managed to fall asleep almost everyday. I dropped the class but I am going to try it again at a later time in the morning. Maybe this time I can stay awake. Cool guy and overall cool class if you can stay awake.
This class is so hard, especially if you're not good at math. There are a lot of quizzes, they're open book but they're still hard. DO ALL OF THE EXTRA CREDIT! He expects you to already know what you're doing, which isn't fair.
-Lyons is really easy if you are not braindead. All quizzes are open book and he gives a bunch of extra credit. He gives you 20 percent extra credit for your final grade. You can get an A if your not completely stupid.
BORING....DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTLY NEED TO..lots of quizes...tests are very hard..final was extremely horrible...there's extra credit but it doesn't help much
TAKE GOOD NOTES!! even better BRING A VOICE RECORDER because he tends to talk fast. he talks about EVERYTHING thats going to be on the quiz so record it! and do all the extra credit and youll be good! good teacher but just talks fast. he really is a master at his subject
lots of quizzes...tests are very hard..final was extremely horrible << All agree with. Yes BRING a voice recorder. He teaches very fast. Very knowledgeable about Geography.
Lots of quizes but their easy..just do good on em, and i failed all my exams..did all the extra credit and still got an C..just gottaa pay attention in class. His jokes are quite funny as well.
Lots of quizzes. About one each day (or every other day). Sometimes he didn't give us a quiz at all or he'll give us a take home quiz. The quizzes were easy though because you're allowed to use open notes/book and talk to your classmates. Plus he drops 7 lowest scores. Take advantage of the extra credit!! Easy class, overall.
ONLY a quiz everyday BECAUSE it was summer school(open book). drops 7 lowest quizzes. he might seem hard at first but just wait intil you see your grades.DO ALL THE EXTRA CREDIT(tedious but helpful)for a GUARANTEED A.if you study for the midterms and finals, you should be fine.research prof= includes random info for you to remember. peace
Dr. Lyons is a great teacher! I was hesitant to take him at first bc a few ppl told me he was extremely difficult. I passed this class with an A. A word of advice, DO THE EC!! He gives lots of it! Pay close attention because he tends to teach really fast and if you don't pay attention, chances are you'll miss something important. Awesome teacher!
very interesting and humorous prof. DO ALL HIS EXTRA CREDIT &DO GOOD ON QUIZZES and you should at least be able to pass. lots of dif. topics jammed into this course, some interesting , some simply a bore! i would personally take another course w/this prof. very nice prof who tries not to bore his students w/his random humor/jokes =D.
Tons of quizzes. The professor is okay, but the subject is difficult. be sure you're an awesome note taker and pay attention to him, he's a fast talker. the class is really boring and slow but it's not his fault. geoggers sucks period.
This professor is very nice, I took geography of california and for me it was easy. Many quizzes about three test, two midterms ,and a final. Many Many Many opportunities for extra credit. But you do have to study. This teacher is very lenient on grading. Overall a very easy class i ended with a 108%.
PROFESSOR LYONS IS SO AWESOME A VERY CARING AND UNERSTANDING TEACHER. DO ALL THE EXTRA CREDIT AND ITS MATHEMATICALLY NOT POSSIBLE TO NOT GET AN A!
ridiculously hard class. he will treat you like you're already a geographer and soesn't slow down his info spout for a second. boring as hell to boot
Good teacher and a nice person. My only complaint is that he was extremely unorganized. He lost a handful of my assignments throughout the semester and I almost went down one letter grade because of it. I would still recommend him, but you should keep track of your grade just in case...
i like prof. lyons. yes he can be a fast talker, but i've learned alot from this class. he does tend to use his workbook alot, so if you have that you dont really need to take notes, but just answer questions that he mentions from his lectures because it will help you on those quizzes! but his exams, oh gosh, study study!overall, i enjoyed it!
I respect his passion for geography, but he does tend to treat the class like their whole life should be geography. Attendance is crucial because he gives quizzes every other day or more. The tests are hard but if you have good quiz scores it might make up for bad test scores.
Dr. Lyons is very easy to understand and clear on subject. Attendance in class is mandatory because all he says in lecture IS on exam and if you show up and do the work you will get an easy A. If you miss class you are in trouble for exams. Helpful in projects
took this teacher in summer. super fast past but very informatively interesting. if u know anyone who previously took this teacher with same class, try to get all their quizes. most of the quizes are the same and its open discussion all the time. tests arent very hard if you study at least 2 hrs before the test. like me! lol. got an A!!
I honestly don't know why I listened to these reviews. I have nothing against Lyons as a person. However, as a teacher he's tough. He doesn't give out study guides so you're on your own when it comes to tests (which are hard) my advice, if you decide to take the class, do all of the extra credit. But seirously, it's a ridiculously hard class.
Probably the worse class I've taken, not what you expect if you wan't an easy science class. Quizes everyday but they're open book or take home. Exams are difficult no study guides or review, you basically have to teach yourself. He does give TONS of extra credit take advantage! Makes a subject I found interesting very dry.
He will put you asleep in lecture. He will bore you. The class is not easy. But there is NO excuse for at least not passing with a C. There are 4 BIG test and 28 quizzes. No study guides for the test. The quizzes are either take home or in class and are given in random classes so their are no dates so I recommend you attend class. Wright everything
He runs on about geog and leaves everyone behind. Do not take him!
He's nice, he lives/breathes geography. Gives 5/6 extra credit options, DO THEM ALL! Expects you to already know about geography. Tests are SUPERSUPER hard, hence, do all the extra credit given. Quizes are given every class meeting = attendance mandatory. Breezes right over topic but will answer questions...not well though.
Hard tests. Just go to class everyday and do the extra credit guaranteed passing grade.
The test are very hard. I failed every single test and still manage to get a B. Thank goodness for the extra credit. Lol. Do all the extra credit and you'll pass!
failed all my tests, did all the extra credit, did good on quizes, and got a C. very hard class, you dont need the textbook, mainly just the workbook
Teacher does not teach the class anything. No lectures given. This is a difficult class because he does not teach us nada. Would not recommend to anyone unless you are already great with geography. GEog 1L
Mr. Lyons is a very smart man, but he pretty much expects you to be prepared on your own. Do ALL the EXTRA CREDIT. Do good on your quizzes, and at least review some before tests. You should pass.
make sure to attend class, do all the extra credits and daily quizzes, and most importantly partner up with people, that's how you'll pass even if you failed all the tests and final.
Look at other phys. science teachers & you're nuts not to choose Dr. Lyons! Quizzes = in class group effort. Take excellent notes! If Jenny tutors in the lab, see her. She helps a lot. Semester gets easier. Don't drop at 1st. Do not recommend lab. Suck it up, study & you'll do well. Dr. Lyons has a sense of humor & likes to teach. That's a plus!
Dr. Lyons gives enough extra credit to raise your grade from C to an A! He drops 7 of 27 quizzes. Use quizzes to study from. Study, go to to tutor center for extra help & you can form a study group. Dr. Lyons is a good teacher. Pay attention, do the extra credit and you'll do fine. You need to put out effort, for sure. Good luck!
This is one of my most interesting classes. Dr. Lyons knows his stuff. I might not always understand what he is saying though, and his writting is not the best so dont expect to understand what the hell he is writting. He wears the coolest shirts though. They are shirts that you dont see anyone else wearing and the relate to his class.
His class is boring when he talks about his lessons, but the rest he is funny. You like the teacher, but not the class. P.S. their is no way to cheat in that class for the people that do, because he is smart, and no I do not cheat.
This class is hard and boring! But you can fail every test and still pass with a B if you do well on those daily quizzes(sit next to a crowd a nerds, you're allowed to make discussions on these quizzes) and do every single extra credit!
Very interesting teacher. Not class. Was super hard not to fall asleep once a while in class. Taking notes is highly recommend it. If you take this class, you NEED to go tutorial which was SUPER helpful! & do all the extra credit he gives. There is 27 quizzes but you drop the lowest 7 at the end. I failed every exam but passed class with a B+! GL!
He's a funny dude and yeah, his shirts are cool. Attendance is mandatory, b/c he will almost always give quizzes at the end of lectures. Take notes if you want to do well on the quizzes. DO extra credit!! Extra credit is extremely helpful if you fail all exams.
He was a pretty good teacher. Even though their were times were he made jokes and no body laughed. Just show up to class and takes notes which do help in the end of class. It's not an easy A but if you work a little hard you should get an A.
Here's how to get an A in the class: 1)DO ALL EXTRA CREDIT 2)Earn at least 8+ on your quizzes. These quizzes are very easy to get 8+ points since you can use the book, notes, and the people around you for help. 3)Take notes on every little thing he says, mostly on what he emphasizes the most in class. 4)Review notes + midterms before test Goodluck!
I laughed when I saw his "easiness" rating here. This is by far one of the easiest As in college history. I got a 107% at the end of the course. The guy next to me got a 112%. I didn't do a single extra credit assignment (tests have ex. cred). Clearly this subject bores some people, but I love life science and this is very diverse and informative.
I took Geography in summer and loved this class. Yes, it is hard and you NEED to attend class always but its fun. Very interesting subjects to touch on and he is very nice! He throws in little experience stories once in awhile and its very cool to hear about the places he has been to actually.Do ec, go to class, study and get an A or B!
He assumes that everyone understands what he lectures on, he talks very fast. The exams are ridiculous. The quizzes are only easy if you take good notes. DONT NEED BOOK AT ALL. Only use his workbook sometimes when he assigns a quiz from it. The extra credit opportunities are very difficult papers. Every one fails the exams. IMPOSSIBLE CLASS! BAD!
Terrible class - I would not recommend it. The exams are so hard! The teacher is hard to understand. He is too smart for his own good which makes it hard for students to understand what he is actually teaching.
He is a fantastic teacher. very smart and will repeat what he said if needed. his exams are hard, but if you do all the extra credits, and get at least 8 or 7 on the quizzes then you can pass the class. i'ts a lot of material. but doable. interesting class
Dr. Lyons knows his stuff. He doe g alittle fast in his lectures. Has quizzed every class, a total of 27, but drops the lowest 7 scores. He lets you and your neighboring classmates do the quizzes together in class so sit next to a smart person!! Do the extra credits offered and you will pass no problem
Prof Lyons deserves a higher score on here. Apparently, people have personal issues. You may need to sit close cause he mumbles sometimes, but pay attention and don't be afraid to ask questions when you're lost. He's hella nice and is always willing to repeat himself. Attendance is a must and studying regularly is recommended. Just be responsible.
Make sure you have something to keep you awake-lectures do tend to get off topic. Take good notes..study notes for quizzes. Get the assignments done ahead of time so you have more time to focus on the material on hand. ***Don't procrastinate to look and study the place names in the syllabus!!*** The quizzes are easy just study. He will finish up on the unit up until right before the quiz so PAY ATTENTION some of the lecture will be on the quiz right after!
SUPER NICE! Just be responsible and DO ASK questions if you need clarification!
Lol at some of these comments about hard tests but you don't need the book. Maybe if you read the book like you should you wouldve gotten a better grade. This class was really informative. It wasnt a hard class, you just need to make sure to take good notes and do all the extra credit assignments.
This class is hard, but he is a good teacher. Hey we are in college so the level will be college level.
DO THE QUIZZES! Extra credit is a major help. Do not act all high and might & ignore this class. Easy A if you put the effort. The material is actually useful because we live on this Earth people. -__-
As long as you do the extra credit and show up to class for the quizzes, you're golden. It's a boring subject but Lyons is willing to repeat himself and lets you turn in assignments a day or two late, which a lot of instructors won't at all.
The extra credit he offers helps because the exams are not easy. The lab is harder than the lecture; you get to use notes/classmates in lecture for quizzes every day, but not in lab. There is a quiz every class period, but he drops your lowest quiz scores: 7 in lecture/3 in lab. Multiple choice exams in lecture, but not in lab.
Always show up for class and do good on all quizzes. Plus do all the extra credit(s). You will do just fine.
Dr. Lyons is a great teacher and knows his subject well. He does get off topic but is always willing to repeat information and answer any questions. The text is not necessary but the syllabus will help with the quizzes, and attending class is necessary if you want the information on the tests. Overall, as long as you put in effort you'll pass.
In my opinion this class is really boring. When he writes on the board, you can barely read his writing and its's messy. The material isn't interesting. The only good thing about his class is the extra credit assignments. You can literally fail every test and still pass with an A if you do the EC. Also, there is quizzes to turn in every class.
Go to class. If you don't, you will miss quizzes & information that will be on the test. Textbook not needed, you won't open it. You need your syllabus for quizzes and the tests are based on his lectures. One major paper and LOTS of extra credit. Very nice guy but not clear on test material. Take notes.
There is a quiz attached with every lecture. Usually it is take-home which is good. The lectures are hard to hear so sit at the front. His handwriting is horrible so pay attention to what he says. There are three 60 question midterms and a 120 question final. They are extremely hard and he tries to confuse you. Extra credit helps so do it all.
Both the class and the lab are tough but he gives you tons of extra credit. The class is out of 500 points which over 40 percent are quizzes. The other 60 percent are tests. Follow the lab manual as it follows his lecture very closely and has many things related to the lab and questions for quizzes.
Professor Lyons geog lab class was respectively tough. However, like his regular class he gives extra credit and has a very similar structure of the class. 3 tests and a quiz after every 3 hour lab. Make sure you buy the lab manual which almost mirrors the original classes lecture.
SUPER UNCLEAR. Notes are all over the same. I bought the book, and never touched it. He's a really nice guy, and willing to work with you but the tests are very hard and have nothings to do with what's going on in class. You could show up just on test days and still pass the class. Extra credit is also offered. Would NOT recommend
A quiz in every class on the lecture you just heard, no problem, especially if you read the chapter before going to class. Extra credit, fairly easy and truly useful to your learning. Tests, not difficult for anyone who knows how to succeed at multiple choice. Lectures are best source of information, so I record lectures and type notes at home.
If you careless about geography and you are just taking it to fulfill a GE this is not the correct professor... His class is too hard. Quizzes every class meeting. The tests are multiple choice but super hard. You have to sit at the front because his voice is too darn soft. No technology whatsoever. Not didactic at all.
He's a great professor and explains the topic clearly. He responds clearly to any questions you might and encourages his students to think critically. If you're looking for an easy A, this class might not be suitable for you. He gives a lot of extra credit points but he will be rough on everybody on the test day.
If you are interested in Geography, you will do fine in this class. If you're not, you'll probably be very bored. The tests (12 in total) are very hard and require a lot of memorization. The study guides don't help at all. However, he does give out 75 points of extra credit and drops 2 lowest test scores so it's easy to get a good grade.
Dr. Lyons lacks interest in his students and in teaching. He does not give much support to students. Not a good experience. His passion for the profession has dissipated. Too bad. I've heard in years past he was a quality teacher.
Class involves math and every science you can think of (geology, chemistry, etc.). There are 27 quizzes (every class), 3 exams (plus the final), and 4 hard extra credit works. His lectures are hard to follow (doze-worthy). The tests are really hard (cumulative final). Texts: Over $150. Don't take this unless its your major, its SO MUCH WORK!
Quizzes every class meeting. Lectures were long, but essential. Tests are horribly hard, with some parts that were not covered in class. Doesn't provide much help either. He does, however, drop the lower scored quizzes and offers a lot of (rather difficult) extra credit. Easy to pass the class, but you gotta work for that A.
Professor Lyons gives so much EXTRA CREDIT! If you do all of the extra credit you WILL pass with an A or a B and get good scores on the daily quizzes that you can do AS A GROUP. He has so much knowledge about Geography so his lectures are long but easy A! I definitely recommend!
I recommend not taking this class unless you love quizzes. I'm not exaggerating, he gives quizzes every single class session. They should also make math a prerequisite. If you don't get Math you won't get the class. Lectures are kinda confusing too. I dropped it the second week. Textbook is mandatory too or you won't pass.
It's hard to put anything in here. If it wasn't for the extra credit, I am sure I would have failed! Lectures almost have nothing to do with what's on the tests or quizzes. It's sometimes boring in the class too. Unless this is you major I wouldn't recommend this class. I needed this class for my AA degree (or general education component)
Professor Lyons knows his subject, but one thing he does not know is how to teach it effectively. His lectures are long, confusing, and you will often get lost. He doesn't use his projector, he just writes sloppily on the board. Show up to class and do the extra credit or you wont pass this class.
This professor uses no technology in a class where pictures and technology are a must. He is way of talking is extremely boring. The tests are extremely hard so you have to study super detailed. Extremely hard class. Avoid him at all costs. transfering and getting my degree depended on this class it was horrible.
Professor is very knowledgeable in this subject. The test are not like his lectures, quizzes are from his lecture . Don't miss class;Quiz every class. Do all extra credit, and you will pass.
My advice is don't take this class unless you absolutely have to. His lectures are incredibly hard to follow, he uses an old fashioned projector instead of the really nice already in the class and his hand writing is very hard to read. Also, his tests are way harder than you would think and there are in-class quizzes every day.
Knowledgeable, but very detailed oriented, must focus. Very, very, hard.
Do ALL extra credit and you will pass. I failed every test (3), did decent on the quizzes that were given after every class period (most take home & drops the lowest 7 quizzes) and did 2/3 extra credit and barely passed with a C. Quizzes are based on lecture and some material from the book and tests are based on material from the book.
If you show up and take good notes, you should be able to pass Prof. Lyons' class. The exams are moderately difficult, so study. Do the extra credit as a fail safe. He's a cool guy. Easy quizzes after every lecture. You can use any resources you have -textbook, notes, neighbors, workbook, etc. He's got jokes for days.
Dr. Lyons is very knowledgeable about the topic. There are in class quizzes at the end of every class period based on the lecture, you are allowed to work with people, pretty easy if you pay attention and take notes on everything he says. He drops the lowest 7 quizzes. Tests are often more based on the reading. Overall I recommend.
Be prepared to learn and sit through boring geographic lectures. Needed to transfer and get undergrad finished.
Takes a lot of bird walks. Doesn't get students quiet. Uses old projector, which makes the notes hard to read. For somebody with ADD this is a horrible professor to take. Didn't know we could work together on quizzes. Most people pulled their phones out. Not sure that's allowed. Makes you buy a workbook he made. Not worth taking.
Thus far the most kindest professor I have had at SJDC. He is highly knowledgeable and gives MANY chances to his students to improve their grade. Those who get anything lower than a B must've skipped every single class. Mr Lyon is the only professor who has ever accepted late work. NO OTHER PROFESSOR AT SJDC DOES THAT. Amazing teacher!
Professor Lyons is the most kindest professor at Delta! He is a tough grader, but you have to ask questions and he will help you out. He has experience with the subject and is very knowledgeable. He helped me out a lot during his office hours. He was very calm when explaining the material and takes the time and doesn't rush you, unlike other profs.
WARNING DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS. The professor is a kind, but his teaching has not updated from the 2000s. He writes all his notes on the white board, very hard to read his handwriting even if you sit in the front of the class. He uses an old projector. Quizzes every single day. All materials and tutoring is a must or no pass. Listen to all warnings
My gut told me to leave but my mind said stay. Shouldve listened to my gut. Hes a nice prof. Knows the subject. But he teaches with an old projector and as well as writes on a whiteboard(which both are hard to see even in the front). Lectures like many others have stated can be confusing. I was told it was an easy class. Oh the reality...
Dude really uses the smallest overhead projector in the west forum class. No one can hear him. Just don't take it there are only like 30 ppl left in his class and half of us aren't doing so good. we started with 230 students
Avoid if you can. Half the class got below 50 percent on exams. You will not learn anything from his lecture because you can barely hear his voice or see any of the visuals he puts up on his ancient projector. Read the book, do all of the extra credit and you will still pass even if you fail all 3 of his extremely hard tests.
he uses a really hard to see projector, he writes on the board and i could never really see anything he wrote. most of the time i was in his class, me and my friend slept because he was so boring. Hes not a bad guy and is really nice but his teaching methods are old. if you need help ask him, read the book, study hard, and do all the extra credit.
This has clearly been one class that you need to be there. Attendance is a must. He tests are hard extra credit you need to put time to do it all. There is a quiz after every lecture. Quizzes are based on lectures. He does not use technology Highly recommend you sit in front and to record class lectures a must in order to succeed. not an easy class
Not an easy class. You have to work hard. Tests are not easy based on the textbook more than the lectures. Highly recommend you record every class lecture if you want to succeed. Teacher doesnt use technology can be frustrating at times. Sit at the front its a must! Cant be lazy attendance mandatory. I recommend doing the tutoring offered.
There's a quiz after every lecture and literally anything he says from lecture can be on the quiz. DO THE EXTRA CREDITS TO PASS. Tests are difficult if you don't read, take notes or do the study guide, drops 7 lowest quizzes. Mainly uses voice and whiteboard to lecture and will sometimes bring a microphone. Really loves it if you ask questions.
I would recommend to make sure u get 100% on every quiz.
Hard class! Make sure you attend class, and take notes. Theres quizzes after every lecture and there are lectures everyday. The quizzes are his made up quizzes so good luck trying to google the answers. Also make sure you take home past exams to study because the quizzes you do are nothing like the exams. Do the extra credit it will SAVE your grade
