First exam more than half my class and her other section failed. She then began to give study guide and things got a bit better. She uses pretty good examples in lecture but the exams suck, designed poorly. MC,Fill in and esay all in each exam. No cumulative exam.
I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Montvilo's class. She is such an interesting person and has a lot of life experience which she shares in class. The stories she tells are usually funny and interesting and she really wants for people to do well, but you do have to study.
I LOVED this class. Her lectures are like a Discovery Channel special on psychology which are interspersed with fun stories, frequently about her husband. Her tests are very on-point and easy if you just take notes. She includes multiple bonus questions. If you just pay attention you will get an A. Highly recommended.
Goes a little too fast, so its hard to take notes at times. Gears her class towards the nursing majors, which isn't always fair to the psych majors. Exams are very easy if you study. Not a bad professor to take human developement with.
Dr.M, Is really nice and she is very direct on what is going to be covered. Study and pay attention in class and take good notes and you wil do well. She tells funny stories and is open to hearing her students opinions. She is not afriad of giving students a hard time in a joking manner, which is nice.Take her!
she had me buy a 100$$ book and we didnt even use it, no assignments, she didnt even write on the board
Awesome teacher....explains well and will help
this professor was horrible, she had a constant ****y attitude towards everyone in class, always rolling her eyes and giving some sort of snide comment. Very unnaproachable. Tests were ridiculously hard, I barely passed this class, and it didnb't help that I sucked in stats. anyways. But this woman's attitude was very unprofession and uneccesary.
Not Bad at all
She talks fast...but it is all interesting so you do understand. Because she tells stories its easy when you are studying to remember back to what she had said. The tests are not hard if you had been to class and took fairly good notes. Two hours flys by in that class.
She is a very friendly person. Tells a lot of stories during class that help with the exams. Her exams are very fair but she covers a lot of material.
Loved her for human development, not so much for Aging. With aging it was an easy class but almost impossible to figure out what she was gonna test you on. In both classes never once opened the book, still in plastic wrap.
I did really average on her tests because I didn't study well enough but the fault is on me, not her. It would have been an easy A had I studied. Definitely take her class but pay attention as she's a fast talker.
it's very important to go to class or at least get the notes from someone! study your notes and you will be fine
anyone who said shes hard obvi never went to class. STAY AWAKE take notes u'll get all A's-I did. DONT buy the book, we never used it & i think she makes up her own phrases. i never used it. 3 mult choice/fill in tests are the only basis of grades, so you dont hafta go but you NEED the notes. gives you a list of terms to study. interesting lady!!
dont take at 8 am, very hard to stay awake in her class. 3exams based on notes, you dont need to go but you definitely need the notes.
I liked this class; very interesting professor who is also a neonatal ICU nurse; she's entertaining and interesting after you get past the theory; talks fast, but happy to repeat if asked; take good notes as all your exam material will come from what she says in class.
Awsome Teacher. Related everything to real life situations so that you can understand the meaning. Class is usually fun since she jokes around. She gives u a word bank of everything u need to know for each exam. There are 3 exams given but no comprehensive final. If ur good at multiple choice and fill ins shes def the one for u.
If u r a nursing major ur all set. This class was directed almost completely toward nursing majors, not psych majors. Don't buy the book, u don't need it. U do need to take extremely good notes however. 3 exams are the only grades. no cumulative final. All questions come from even the little things she says in class. She doesnt always stress them
As long as you come to class and take notes you will pass!
Professor Montvilo is really enthusiastic about Psychology and during her lectures she really tries to involve the class. Using the book isn't necessary but taking good notes and studying from the lectures is critical. If you just show up to class and speak up once in a while then your good. Asking a few questions always helps too.
Professor Montvilo is an awesome teacher. She has such a sense of humor and it makes time go by quickly. Taking good notes is a must. Only 3 tests, but if you have all the notes and study the material well you will do fine. One of the easiest classes I've taken. I definitely recommend her. She's great!

Not very helpfull no book just note she talks you write. If you like that kind of class this ones for you
This teacher is not only extremely well versed in the subject she teaches but also has an extreme amount of experience to back the information she teaches up. Also this lady is a scream, very interesting if you open your ears instead of text messaging all your friends.
She is great, she has real stories for each subject,Her daughter Stacy is the title of all subject's example which is fun. She is so nice and easy. You do not need to bay a text book or to attend class, but you need to have notes because the three exams come from notes so it is up to you! I was making a lot of copy of my notes and give it to others
She is great, one of the best professors I had. You do have to attend class because everything she mentions in class appear in the exam. I will recommend her 100%
I think shes a good professor. You dont need the book.Make sure not to miss a class because u will miss valuable info.Test come from notes. She talks quick as u write. But overall good professor.Easy class 3 m/c exams n ur done.
one of the nicest people you will ever meet very fair will not give extra even if u are dieing, and have a dr. note so don't look for sympathy. very kind will help and explain until u get it no text take good notes
She's knows what she's talking about, she's just not my type of professor. She's a bit disorganized and talks a bit too fast. However if you go to class and pay attention you should be fine. Class attendance is important not because it is mandatory but b/c there is a lot of info. Looking at a friend's notes doesn't really help.
She's very knowledgeable about what she's teaching, however, she is not enthusiastic. I'm sitting in class right now (a lecture hall) and there are a few people asleep in their chairs as she's speaking. She gives plenty of examples and study guides which are helpful. But if you are not a morning person, do not take her 8am class! zZzZ
She's really nice, explains things super well, but don't take her at 8am in the morning. She's very....she's very.....zzzzzZZzzzzz
Great professor. Definitely have to take notes. Attendance is a must b/c if you miss notes, you cant understand notes from others. I'm in 8am class- all you have to do is show up, type whats in slideshows and side notes- lots of examples and stories which are on exams. Easy to pass her class. Never bought book. She doesnt mention it either.
Easiest A that I've ever gotten. Just pay attention to what she says, take notes, and you'll pass. Her exams are multiple choice, and almost word for word to her lectures. She is also very nice!
This lady is the biggest joke for a professor I have encountered in my life. You will learn more about Party of Five than you will about psychology. She is completely useless, and her lectures are enraging. She teaches misinformation, zips through slides, and expects you to learn material she never even discussed. Do not take her classes.
Very good teacher! She is very clear! Go to class & take good notes & you will be fine. I got a B. Study your notes. She tells a lot of life stories, but they help you remember the topics shes going over.
One of the hardest professors. After the first exam, she showed everyones grade on the powerscreen, about 50% of the class got D's and F's, about 100 students then withdrew from the class. Take at your own risk, very hard.
worst class ive ever taken. super interested in the information but couldnt seem to pass the tests because they were so vague and so many potential answers. lectures were painful to sit through and so dry that it was hard to stay awake. this info is interesting and she somehow made it horrible.
This class is extremely easy. If you attend class and take good notes there is NO way you can't pass the class. The fact that her exams are not cummulative should make it that much easier. She does talk a lot but her examples are extremely useful. I would definitely recommand her
This class is only hard because of the exams. First of all there are only 3 of them and those are your only grades. The questions on the exam are also very vague and could have more than one answer. Will get through 1 or 2 slides on powerpoint a day until she warp speeds a week before the exam. Ineffective teaching style.
This professor is the easiest A I have ever received. Just show up for the class and take good notes. The tests are straight from the notes and her lectures. Also every test has at least 10 points of extra credit built in so you can get 5 wrong and still get a 100. Best class ever, super easy.
she talks wayyyyy to much. doesn't use a textbook, just lectures and jumps from topic to topic. asks questions on exams that you didnt even go over in class or someone mentioned it for 3 mins. pointless class, dont take!!
If you have to take Human Development for your major, I HIGHLY recommend Prof. Montvilo! She's great, and clearly explains the material. She also uses stories to highlight important terms throughout the course which makes it that much easier to remember. However her class consists of non stop note taking so if that's not your thing, stay away.
She is one of the BEST psych professors at RIC. Although I took her 8am and hated it because I hate morning classes and she talks wayyy too much, she was EXTREMELY helpful and easy to understand. Exams are straight from her powerpoints and she gives MULTIPLE stories to help you remember during exams. LOTS of note taking but worth it. TAKE HER!!!!!!
This class was easy for me. Don't miss a lecture, or you are screwed. Her exams are 100% from her notes. Gives a bunch of extra credit questions on the exam. I got a 115 on my final for her. No books are needed what so ever. Pay attention and take good notes in lecture and you'll be fine.
Professor Montvilo is so funny! She is very clear and really knows what she is talking about. However, since this is large lecture, your grade will rely on 3 exams and there are a lot of terms so make sure you study A LOT and DON'T SKIP CLASS. The book can make some things a little better to understand, but you don't need it.
Im currently in Prof. Montvilo's class. Take her. Alot of extra credit and she is VERY helpful, you ask her for help or a question and she answers. Gives hints, alot of hints as to what will be on exams, gives essay questions in advance. For Nursing students especially, she is inspirational, motivating and understanding. Very funny!
she is so good! no book needed at all. great at explaining things, makes everything very clear. no book needed record all lectures and make index cards on quizlet on everything she says. must attend class to pass. she made the class interesting & gives extra credit within the exams and separate from them. only gives 3 exams
She gives incorporates a lot of extra credit into her exams which is very helpful. You don't need the textbook but you do need to pay attention and take good notes and you will for sure get a good grade. Make sure to actually know the material because you get points taken off for silly mistakes on short answer questions
I really enjoyed Dr. Montvilo, she is smart as hell - gives great examples for exams, and if you ask questions as to whats on exams, she'll give hints, no homework, 3 exams, shes funny, highly respected, excellent source of info for nursing majors. Her lectures are funny, informational, helpful, and easy to follow along with. I would def take her
she's the best professor on campus. very clear and helpful i had her for a few classes. she gives 3 exams thats all. very clear. repeats stuff till you get it. tests are easy and consists of multiple choice, fill ins, short def, and essays. but they're easy, she tells you whats on it. she's great! she talks fast so bring a laptop and you'll keep up
If you are a Nursing major, she is a must take for development. She is funny, and tells stories to make the material interesting. I would not recommend taking her at 8AM though. It was tough to stay up without coffee. She gives a study guide, and all of her exams come from the notes. Attendance isn't mandatory, but definitely do not skip class.
Professor Montivilo was awesome! I suggest buying the book for her class because she gives extra credit with the assignments in the book. There are three exams in her course, and are quite easy. Overall a very excited and enthusiastic woman, would definitely take again!
A MUST for Nursing Majors!!!
Dr. Montvilo's teaching style is fun, engaging, and a breath of fresh air compaired to typical lectures. With that said, she is an incredibly tough grader to the point where it's unfair. For essays, be prepared to re-write an entire lecture word for word. Anything less will cause you to get major points off. Love the class, wish grading was fair.
Don't take her if your insurance looks at your midterm grades. Midterm grade is solely based on the only exam we've taken so far (and 80% of us got a grade below a C) Makes you look terrible both online and to the school. Got an email from OASIS asking if I need help -- and I'm an honors student. Completely and totally embarrassed. NEVER again.
Amazing professor! Her lectures were very engaging and she always told stories that would remind you of the concept that she spoke on. You can not miss class unless you have someone who takes EXTREMELY good notes! Her whole tests are from her lectures, but if you pay attention you will pass! No book required whatsoever.
For this class there were only four grades - 3 exams and 1 scrapbook. Dr. Montvilo puts the lecture notes online which is extremely helpful. However, I did not like her exam style. It consisted of multiple choice, fill in the blank, short answer, and essay. The class is so material heavy, I would have liked either multiple choice or short answer.
Dr. R Montvilo is a great professor. Her grades only consist of the three exams and fives points of EC from the book. There are three tests, it consist of Multiple choice, fill ins, short answers, and one essay. The final exam had only multiple choice and fill ins. The tests are not from the book, but from notes in class. Don't skip class.
It's like a wild goose chase trying to follow her lectures. She "tells stories" but it's actually just rambling. On and on she can go with the most useless stories that drive me crazy. I took her class on a whim and I regret it. I need to wear ear plugs during her lectures because her voice is so annoying and the mic is too loud. Not sorry. Escape!
BIG mistake... Don't take her if you want to be in the Nursing program.
She makes terrible notes, and expands on them for about a minute and then proceeds to ramble on an irrelevant side track for 10 minutes about her daughter. The book cost 90$ and is not optional, also in her class specifically you need to read the book like crazy because the majority of the material is not talked about in class
Absolute BEST psych professor I've had. I type along with her as she's giving her lectures and I have pages and pages of orderly and detailed notes. Her exams are straightforward if you know the material. If you don't, you'll fail. Simple. Online quizzes are available for extra credit. If you take all 20, 5 points'll be added to your final grade!
Professor Montvilo is an okay professor. She lectures literally the entire time but the class was interesting. There is only three exams and thats your grade. So if you do bad on one you're basically screwed. I studied my ass off for the exams and I guess it semi paid off. I did well on two exams and poorly on one.
she is amazing professor her exams come from the note you don't have to read the book for the exam only for the quiz on line where she gives a chance to have 5 extra credit.
Montvilo is a pretty good professor. I took her in a lecture hall. She only based our class off of 3 exams (one is a final). You have to show up and take really good notes and pay attention if you want a good grade. Her exams are pretty easy and straight forward, although some questions were confusing. She gives examples based off her experience.
Given: the class was in the Roberts Hall auditorium. If you went to class, listened to what she said, and took notes, this class is the easiest A. She's really accessible outside of class. she will talk your ears off during lecture but only to ingrain certain things that'll "hint hint" be on the exams. She gives out study guides also.
The lady talks so fast. Doesn't care at all about getting to know students. Practically sighs if a kid has a question. No takes on anything or extra credit if you mess something up. It was an easy class but it would have been a lot better if she cared more.
Worst professor by far that I've had at RIC. She presents about 10 slides a class if that & will talk about each for only a minute or two and then goes on to ramble about her daughter for the rest of class. She only gives three exams so if you fail one, you're basically out of luck. If you're applying for the Nursing program, do NOT take her.
If you fail one exam, you are done. Grade based off 3 exams and 5 extra credit points on final..
She means well, but she sits in a chair and rambles for 2 hours, making it difficult to take notes. Her powerpoints are horrible and she can only get through 2-3 slides per class because of all the rambling. Gives a study guide for the exam of 100+ terms that are no where to be found in the notes. Prepare to teach yourself.
You need to go to class to get the notes. She puts them on blackboard but without the definitions, and if you miss notes you'll be clueless when it comes to her 100+ terms to study for a test. She rambles on throughout lectures and it can get confusing. The class is graded on 3 exams and Connect assignments, fail one exam and you're done.
This class is an easy A if you go to lecture and take good notes; DO NOT miss lecture you will be clueless otherwise. Everything she talks about in lecture pops up on the exams. Grade based on 3 exams & online connect assignments; you have a chance to get 4 extra credit points if you do the chapter quizzes from the book which are online.
Human development was really easy. She gives you all the terms that will be on the exam ahead of time. But, you have to be in class most of the time because she talks about studies and goes on tangents that you really cant just look up online, that do show up on exams. Sometimes her tangents are not helpful though, and its a long class.
"you have to show up" is much more easier said then done! professor montvilo sits in her chair and talks from when class starts to finish. Her powerpoints are little to no help and she puts in NO EFFORT to make the class a little more entertaining or attentive to the 215 students in the class! DON'T TAKE HER!
I took her class spring '18. We were graded on 3 exams, online assignments, and optional online end of chapter quiz's which counted as extra credit. Her class is mostly based on what she teaches in class. Powerpoints are not helpful at all so take good notes in class. exams also have extra credit questions in them too.
This class' content was interesting but the professor herself made it a little more boring BUT if you want a good grade in this class then just read the book, do the homework and show up to class! She is very straight forward with her exams. Literally takes questions right from her lecture in class. As long as you take good notes you'll do great!!!
Do not take this Professor!! Very bitter mean lady, seems like she strives to make sure you dont pass the class. Doesnt have many extra credit opportunities, your grade is mainly from what you get on exams. Lectures are very boring and not engaging at all. Take any other professor if you want to enjoy the class
Dr. Montvillo is an average professor. I will agree with the fact that her lectures are pretty boring. The key to getting an A in this class is to record her lectures, take detailed notes and study! You'll love how she grades the exams. She gives a decent amount of extra credit as well. Id recommend this professor if you want to get an A
I took this class in Spring'18 and the content was interesting, she just made the lecture very BORING. She gives online quizzes which count for extra credit and the homework is online as well. The exams are based on what she lectures but her notes are not helpful at all. To get a good grade just study, read the textbook, do the homework and quizes.
She just sits in her chair and lectures off the powerpoints. She gets off topic a lot and doesn't really prepare you for her tests. I got the online textbook for cheap because there were quizzes online you had to do. There was extra credit but it wasn't much. Her study guide is a list of terms that are in the powerpoint but it doesn't help at all.
Dr. Montvilo is one of the best professors I've had at RIC. Her exams are on exactly what she says in lecture, if you go to lecture you will pass. She assigns online homework and multiple extra credit opportunities so the class isn't just graded on exams. Definitely take if you're an intended nursing major!
Mostly graded on test. Have to buy the online textbook. Her lectures are just her reading off the power point and going off topic multiple times to tell you life stories. Her study guides are over 200 terms and arent helpful for a 40 question exam with an essay question.
Avoid taking her! She is very unorganized. Ive emailed her several times and never got a response. She spends the entire class getting off topic. Her exams are difficult and her study guide is useless- doesnt help at all! Take another professor!
I tried to enjoy this class but it wasn't easy. She would get off track often and tell stories irrelevant to the class, which only killed time. Not clear enough on requirements for the written assignments, but expects the student to read her mind. Overall the class had a disorganized, free-for-all air to it, and I did not learn much.
DO NOT TAKE HER She is not the greatest professor I have taken at ric. She goes off topic multiple times and not really easy to talk to. She gives attitude to her students and says very questionable things while in class. She does give study guides for her exams, but it is only a 55 question test so the study guides are not that helpful.
Dr. Montvilo lectures are useful so it's best not to skip. Her exams are not hard and she scales A LOT. She puts a SG of important terms so its best to fill it out and see what you don't know. Textbook and online hw on connect. Exams come straight from her pptsbut some questions may seem difficult, but she scales a lot so most people get over a 100
Professor Montvilo is very knowledgeable, but her lectures tend to get off topic and she ends up rambling about things only loosely related to the powerpoint for most of the class. She rarely responds to emails. Her assessments are extremely specific to things she mentions in class, so, unfortunately, you need to attend lecture.
3 exams (84%), online assignments (16%), extra credit (4 pts). Before covid, I had one in person exam. It was easy tbh but you HAVE to sit in class to hear what she says (kinda boring). The things she says irl is whats on the exam. Only used textbook for online assignments. Handled transition to online well. I heard her be rude to some students.
Lecture heavy! Does not correlate with the homework. They are long and boring, she likes talking off-topic all the time and rambles on. HW heavy, make sure you do those for credit. Book doesn't help with lecture at all. Test heavy! Three tests, All MC, 50 qs. Have to get at least a C or higher (steadily) to end up with a good final grade in class.
