Not only is she beautiful but she is well qualified...highly experienced...and an awesome teacher...If you have to take microbiology...take it with her...Take good notes and don't get lazy with the studying...
This is a Tough class to begin with! Dr. Arias seems to have been the better choice of theachers. DID NOT use textbook it was a waste of $ If you DO NOT HAVE to take class, save yourself and do not take. It is set up to weed out the pre nursing studentents
Dr. Arias is awesome. She knows her stuff and makes learning mircrobio doable! She speaks in lame-mans terms so you can understand this subject. On top of this she is young (only 28!) FULL of ENERGY totally unlike any other professor I've had before! I took her summer class and came out with an A. Study her notes and labs-dont need textbook.
Microbio over summer. Hardest part was the long hours. Ms. Arias is peppy and whimsical, but great at getting the knowledge across. Very easy for a science class. I studied mostly during lunch and I got an A without much effort. Dont miss class and dont buy the book. I didnt even bother with SI. Highly recommended for getting Micro out of the way.
Dr. Arias was fantastic. I didn't do so well in her class the first go round because of a death in my family so I have to take it again and I didn't hesitate to enroll in her class again; I wouldn't want it any other way. She is very easygoing, humorous, and knows her stuff! She makes class interesting and helps you out however she can.
The best microbiology teacher this college has!! The subject is hard, requires a lot of effort, but she is wonderful. Don't by textbook but definitelly buy the lab manual it'll be very useful. Several quizes, which really help to get ready for the exams. 3 exams plus lab and lecture finals. Trust me she is your BEST option for BIO 2!!
best micro teacher ever!!!!!
Yes, she is a great teacher! your best option for BIO2. Lots of quizes which is good you'll see. Buy everything but the textbook you won't need it. Don't miss class especially lecture days. Don't memorize labs (colors, reactions, kreb cycle) ask her if u don't get it (she's always there for u),otherwise u'll be in trouble. Highly recommended!!
I love her and so will you!! Take her!!
Love!! This is an extremely challenging course with lots of quizzes & lab work but she is so helpful & knowledgable that she will make you want to become a microbiologist by the end of the semester. Lab manual required, SI helps. Studying is a must & attending class is absolutely crucial to your success. Good luck and have fun!! RECOMMEND for sure!
Best teacher ever!!!
GREAT teacher! She looks really young but very knowledgable about the subject. Studying is a MUST for this class but she gives you study guides prior to all tests. Do your study guide & do all your lab reports & you should be good with this class. Ask her questions if you are unsure about something. She is very very nice and friendly.
Dr. Arias has to be one of the best profs that LBCC has to offer. She's SO young and SO intelligent. The subject itself (microbiology) is tough, so nurses, you have to be ready to put in a lot of study time. The workload is fair. She's very understanding and won't swamp you with work if it starts piling up... and she is absolutely gorgeous!so cute!
Best teacher ever!Micro is a hard class but Dr Arias is the best. Students at LBCC are lucky to have her.100% recommended. She provides the students with all kind of tools, handouts and material to illustrate and facilitate the understanding of the topics cover in class. It is clear she loves teaching. Test and quizes are difficult.
Fantastic Teacher! She is very clear on what to study, very helpful if you have ANY question. Grades fairly and doesn't play favorites like Zuckerman(dont take her) YOU HAVE TO STUDY! She gives study guides, if you study those, you will do well! be detailed in your study's and you will do great. Lab quizzes are fill in the blank, Tests have essay
DR. Arias is hands down THE BEST teacher for microbiology at LBCC and probably at OCC also. She is very clear on what to study has a way of making hard concepts easy to understand. Full of energy-NOT boring at all. Makes class fun. Genuinely a very nice person. Class is hard like it should be but if you study you should do well.
Very helpful. A little confusing, very young very good looking. Test are hard
super nice! take her class! tests are straight from her lectures so just study all the details!
every little detail matters!the class is really tough but she is incredibly nice and eager to help. She doesn't curve the grades and her tests and quizzes are the majority of your grade. the best thing you can do for yourself is write detailed lab reports and ask whenever you have a question (she always says "good question" when you ask)
Nicest teacher I ever took. Always willing to help and never without a smile on her face. Just don't skip class, study, and you will get an A
Manageable: 4 exams. 5 quizzes (drops lowest). Mini online homework assignments. The textbook isn't necessary, but attendance is a must bc her tests are based of her lectures!
Notes are straight from the book. Talk through out lecture. Does not help you. Does not offer extra credit. Homework online is worth an exam. Study are not helpful. Too many chapters to review for exams and quizzes. Not enough time given between each other. Promotes to change your grade with attendance but does not. Attendance does not count.
does not show interes in students success. does not offer any extra credit. Attendance is a must and she promotes that she will hire your grade with attendance but she does not.
She's a very fun teacher, she is very passionate about what she teaches. Always energetic, a lil' bit toooo much! i would say. But quizzes are from her notes, she gives many examples, and shows kool clips to show us what she is talking about. I like her class . . Its not fantastic, but it is manageable!
Dr. Arias is obviously very knowledgeable about microbiology, but this biology class is seriously difficult. We only met once a week but for 3 hours (it was GRUELING). While she tries to make the lectures enjoyable, the homework, quizzes and exams are extremely tricky and worded for a bio major. If you're taking more than 3 classes, don't take her.
Best Micro teacher! She never bores the class and is always energetic and happy. Always willing to help out and answer any questions. She is the sweetest and most patient professor I know. P.S. Although she is a cat lady, she's definitely not a hoarder. ;-)
She get's very into the lectures.
Lovely professor, smart and pretty. Exams are tough and time consuming. Study hard. Quizzes at least once every week. Simple but study. They have a big impact on your grade. Unknown project was self explanatory. Only reason for a bad grade is if you didn't try.
The class isn't easy but it is manageable if you give yourself adequate study time. I would not recommend taking it with another science course. Got an A. Dr. Arias is helpful when questions come up and thorough in her explanations of things. Don't get the textbook, need the lab manual though.
Took her Microbiology class in Fall 2013 and she was THE BEST. The material is definitely not easy, but she teaches it so clearly. I suggest taking this class by itself or with another easy class (definitely not another science class!) because you will need the time to study.
Great professor! Her lectures were great, and well structured. You do not need a book for her class. All you need to do to get an A is to study/review her power points and notes that she wrote on the board. When you don't understand something, feel free to ask her and she'll help you until you understand. Overall, she is a nice prof. and she cares.
Dr. Arias is very sweet and super organized and clear with her lectures, assignments, quizzes, and exams. She gives you a lot of work and a lot of information but as long as you study and put the effort you can do it. She helps you succeed and is very approachable and nice. If you are going to take this class this is the professor you want to take!
Nice, Thorough/Detailed, Helpful, Energetic, Fast-pace, Smart, Friendly, Charming, Tons of homework but helps for quizzes, Copious amount of information, Study hard!!!
Dr. Arias is an AMAZING teacher. If you have the chance to take her, take her class. She is clear on her lectures and lays it all out in a way that willl make you understand the material. Just be sure to show up to lecture and Lab because its important. Her tests are easy & not confusing like other Bio teachers. Just be prepared to STUDY !!!!
Dr. Arias is one of the best professors I've taken. The material is heavy. You must study if you want to pass. Feel free to ask her questions. She's extremely nice and happy pretty much all the time. Exams are mainly from lecture. Don't skip class unless someone can lend you notes. Drops lowest quiz (1 lab + 1 lecture). Rare extra credit. STUDY.
Hardest class Ive ever taken ! She goes in depth, you have to know everything and its a lot of info! Her exams are very difficult, for ex. choose all that apply. She is nice and always happy but you have to STUDY at least 20 hrs per week ! DO NOT take this class with another science or difficult class. NO extra credit. NO MAKEUPS . FAST PACE
Taking Professor Arias for Microbiology was a GREAT decision. She is kind, sweet and genuinely wants all her students to succeed. She gives you study guides, she has a good SI and will always let you know what to study for when it comes to quizzes and exams. She is helpful and always responds to emails not matter the day! Be ready to STUDY!
Dr. Arias is a very nice lady, but her class is so difficult. There are a total of 10 quizzes, her tests are difficult, there is also an unknown project for the lab part. She does not give extra credit and does not curve grades. Do not take her with any other difficult class. Be prepared to study every single aspect of microbiology.
(PART 1) Exams are difficult. half of the exam is multiple choice but challenging. the other half is free response. Her exams are straight from her lectures. Attend her lectures and arrive early because she won't post the first 10 pwp slides online. usually free response questions come from material she writes on the whiteboard. so don't skip class
This has got to be the BEST professor I have ever taken! She is very straight forward on what she wants you to know and what material will be on quizzes/exams. This class is a hard subject in general so she is not what is hard about passing this class! Do NOT miss lectures, you will risk missing important info she may write on the board. Attend SI!
Arias a nice but this class is difficult! She includes material that nursing program uses. You need to spend at least 20 hours a week studying. Textbook wasn't really used except for Connect assignments. Lab manual and her booklet are required! Notes are basically the test and quiz but its VERY detailed & A LOT. 1st 2 exams didnt finish in time.
This class requires a lot of studying to pass. She gives a total of 5 lecture & 5 lab quizzes (drops lowest grade for each). First 2 exams are difficult, splits 3rd exam into part A & part B (made it easier IMO). Includes bonus points in some exams. Lecture notes are basically the exams & quizzes; memorize every little detail you can. STUDY!!
Attendance is mandatory if you want an A. Miss one day and its as if you miss a week of material. Lab is SO EASY, so dont stress too much about it. Lecture is what is difficult about this class, a lot of material covered per exam. My Advice? STUDY! memorize the PowerPoints and the extra notes given. Connect is the only hw assigned
Dr. A is an amazing professor, definitely hard, requires you to put forth every effort, but its one of the best classes I've ever had.
Dr Arias is the best professor I've ever taken. Her quizzes & exams are straight forward & doable if you study. This class require you to invest a good amount of time to study. The lab worksheets helped me w/ the lab quizzes. Unknown project helped me w/ the lab final. She gives 10pts EC. Powerpts & study guide are also helpful.
Easily the worst professor I've taken. She acknowledges that Bio 41 is a non major class and she treats it like a major class. Her powerpoints are good, but her picture examples aren't relate able. Her lectures aren't great either, because she goes too fast and doesn't know how to connect it to the students. If you aren't good at science, avoid her
BIO41 is a non-major class but only take it if you enjoy biology or else you'll be bored with her lectures. She's an awesome bio professor and she knows her stuff. 4 exams and 5 quizzes but she drops the lowest quiz. She provides study outlines and the homework helps a lot as well
Prof. Arias really cares about her students. This class is HARD, but she wants you to succeed. Ask questions and expect to put in a lot of study time outside of class. There is not much extra credit so you really need to do well on exams. Her grading criteria is clear and there were no surprises on the tests, it's straight from lectures.
She horrible! By not giving extra credit and study guides and a good amount a time to prepare for quizzes and test.
Her class can be hard and it does move a little fast. I am a nursing major so im use to the fast movement of the class. It can be really fun or very demanding depending on the amount of effort you put into the class. She gives a lot of quizzes and will ask for lab papers. If you are not a science person i would suggest a different class.
The class is EASY to pass if you put in minimum of 20 hrs a week to study . Record ALL lectures & Labs , print out PowerPoints & write on them when going over your recordings (helped soooo much ) DONT try and wing anything , write everything you can HENCE why recording is a must ! Memorize the PowerPoints detail by detail ! Will help towards tests
Tough class but dr. Arias is very well organized and makes it as easy as possible. Record the lectures and study the slides. Do not miss a single lecture. You can tell that she wants her students to succeed and gives the necessary tools to make it happen. Her syllabus/class schedule that she hands out the first day is great.
Horrible professor. It's hard to pay attention because her voice is painfully high pitched. She says "uuuummm" and "like" just about every other word, which loses the momentum of your focus. She dances around during lecture which is also very distracting. The exams are too much material, and should be broken in half. About 6 HEAVY topics per exam.
Dr Arias is nice and is always willing to help. She's very approachable. She gives EC and study guides. However what I don't like about this class is that most of her tests are "choose all that apply" which makes the tests kinda difficult. So just do all her lab reports because they'll helpful for the Unknown project, and do the study guides.
Not an easy subject but interesting. Scantron quizes/tests & short answers. Know all materials lectured. Only will be tested on what she lectures on, no surprises. Be an active participant/ask questions, attend lectures/labs, RECORD lectures/labs, LISTEN to your recordings, be organized, & put the time/effort into Bio2 & you will be successful!
Honestly out of the 3 science classes i had to take to get into the nursing program, this is the hardest, but the most interesting! It's hard because there's a lot to study for, so you really need time & lots of effort to get an A in this class. She's very enthusiastic & helpful when you have trouble understanding something. She's the best for me!!
Professor Arias is an amazing professor. I honestly did not think I was going to enjoy this class but it was actually very fun, especially the labs. She is well respected and goes over the syllabus very clearly and has clear grading criteria. She is a great bio professor no doubt.
She was understanding until when the corona virus outbreak happened I told her I couldnt physically attend class because I was taking three buses to get to school and it isnt safe. She disregarded my circumstances which she previously knew of and was planning to dock me points until the school cancelled class for that day anyways so I got lucky.
Shes was a good professor but When we transitioned to online because of covid-19 she started to become unreasonable. She gave us a 50 question quiz to complete within 45 minutes. Peoples reading proficiency varies and some of the questions required word typed answers.
The transition to online for BIO 41 was totally fine!! Honestly; if you just do the homework; then the Exams are easy peesy. The time alotted for Exams was totally reasonable; am glad I took this class!
Honestly this class is easier than my high-school Bio class. The Exam is basically a vocabulary test. No reading comprehension required. Just do the homework and you are fine! I do look over her study guides and so far I have a solid B in the class. Highly recommended!
I would just recommend that you do the homework that she assigns. As long as you do that, you are fine. for me, my high-school bio class was also easier than this class.
Before going online, her communication and answering some questions are just "yeah, yeah, yeah!" Doesn't help answer anything. Since online, seems like she gotten worse. She acts like she understand our struggles, but no. Also if email her asking questions she's not clear almost like she wants to see her students fail!
Since online, time to take the quiz and multiple choice/short answers are unreasonable. Everyone have different rate of reading on a computer screen. Not only that, but giving a short time to try to let us answer a short answer written part for quiz and exam is insane. Especially, when some needs to be little wordy and detailed.
I took her before and after covid-19, her lectures are great, she is a very caring person and she will answer any question that you have for her. It is not an easy A, you must put in some TLC in order to get the grade you want. However she gives extra credit at the end of each quiz. One of the better microbio professors.
easy class!
I am recomending to my friend. good instructor
good teacher and she cares.
I took professor Arias in Fall 2019 and Professor Arias is genuinely one of the best professors I've ever had. Her lectures are very interesting and I can say I learned a lot in this class. It is a challenging course and you will need to study HARD to get an A. Acronyms and mnemonics are gonna be your BFF.
I saw her reviews before covid and expected great things but never again will i take her class. she doesn't round the quizzes/exams (ex: 15.95/25) she thinks giving us 19 questions (written included) with 26 minutes is enough WHILE being recorded using the privacy invasion called "Proctorio" and does not understand that we are in a PANDEMIC.
Class was very doable online. She is very clear in her expectations and as long as I put in the time, I was fine. I was glad she made videos of all of the labs because that way I could see how labs were set up i would recommend this class and teacher!
We currently living in very difficult and unpredictable times, and unfortunately I felt as though she forgot about that. She is very much concerned about if her students are cheating, exams are only opened for a short period, her class schedule is consistently changing, 30% of your grade is determined in 8 days. Good luck, WOULDN'T RECOMMEND!!!!
I wish I was able to write a book on my HORRIBLE experience with this professor, but this website simply won't let me. Professor Arias was probably the most inconsiderate professors I have ever taken. Her exams questions are recorded NOT written/no captions, Her class schedule is constantly changing, 50 page unknown project, etc. GET READY FOR BIO2
Okay, I'll try my best to make this unbiased as possible. Pros: 1. YOU'LL LEARN A LOT! 2. Gives you extra credit Cons: 1. Her exams are DETAILED, she'll test you even on the things she briefly mentioned. TOO much memorization! 2. Last 2 weeks was torture, cumulative exams, project, quiz, hw; 30% of grade. 3. Not able to see our exam results
This class was by far one of the hardest classes Ive taken. Study/MEMORIZE her lecture slides and you will pass. the last 2 weeks were super stressful. Last Exams, quizzes, unknown project plus lab final/ semi-cumulative lecture final. Not enough time to study. Only thing I didnt like was she would forget to post videos and post them last min
Lecture/lab quiz almost every week Exams are doable if you study the lecture slides Doesnt give feedback on exams/quizzes unless you reach out to her Watch lecture slides ahead of time they can pile up Last 2 weeks, unknown project, lab final, lecture final. Study as much as you can Be prepared not to have a social life with this class
Great professor! Always responded to my emails and made sure she cleared up any misinterpretation I had. 4 exams, last exam was split into 2. Almost every lab/lecture quiz/exam had bonus questions. She does use the proctorio system for every quiz/exam, every micro bio at lbcc is using it. BEWARE of the last 2 weeks, it may get overwhelming. STUDY!!
Best microbio professor at lbcc!! You have to put the time in to study or you wont pass. This is not an easy A class. Keep up with the work AHEAD of time. Watch the lecture videos AHEAD, DONT LET THE VIDEOS PILE UP. Take side notes along with the lecture and lab slides. Most importantly study her notes, all the questions on exams comes from there
i failed the class but shes really awesome
Dr. Arias is a GREAT Professor! Microbio is a HARD subject but she provides ALOT of help! Study guides provided, extra credit on exams. If you take her just make sure to put in the time to study. Currently taking her class this Spring 21 and every week we have a quiz/exam but I am enjoying the class. Glad I chose this Professor to learn Microbio!
I was hesitant to take this Professor at first given the bad reviews, however she is Amazing! Truly cares for her students to pass. Microbio isnt an easy subject you MUST study to pass. She provides EC in every quiz/Exam. They are a mixture of Multiple choice/Type In. Provides videos for lab and lecture recordings & Study guides, I recommend her.
TookSPR21,Dr. Arias truly wants her students to pass! provides extra credit on exams, gives grp assignments. ADV: Stay on top of lecture/lab videos, STUDY ALOT! If you understand the labs it will be a breeze completing unknown project, will be a lot at the end. Stay Organized&always ask for help if needed. Have time management & DNT PROCRASTINATE!!
Very caring and considerate teacher, nice to have during these hard times of Covid. Asynchronous class, so all her lectures were recorded and on YouTube, however they were very easy to follow and understand. There is a total of about 5-6 exams, plus quizzes and plus a final. Still, if you take notes and prepare enough, you should definitely pass.
Class was extremely challenging but professor makes the class doable. Professor explains material in a manner that is easy to understand. Tips: view videos ahead of time, study everyday, annotate, DONT PROCRASTINATE, attend SI, make sure you understand material, beware of last two weeks, tests rely on critical thinking. Follow this, ull get an A.
I LOVED Dr. Arias. Micro is hard but she made lectures engaging and she wants her students to do well. I took this class Fall 2020, so at the height of COVID, her material helped me understand what was going on especially with the vaccine rolling out. Loved her and I learned so much while enjoying the class
Dr. Arias cares about each student and wants her students to pass. Every exam and quiz she provides extra credit but this class was extremely challenging. Study a lot! Understand the labs because unknow project is around 40 pages to 50 pages. Every exam & quiz come from her slide and her lecture video. She does use the proctorio system.
Honestly this semester flew by really quick because of how great she is. I enjoyed the labs a lot, but pretty unfortunate that this class was online. If you study well, you'll definitely pass. Just don't procrastinate and plan things out!!
Professor Arias is one of the best professors I have had throughout college so far. She is very thoughtful about her students and is always available to help. She is also very good at responding to emails! This class was enjoyable because of her and yes bio is hard, but if it weren't for prof Arias, I am not sure I would've passed.
Professor Arias is AWESOME ! She has inspired me all semester long. I am so grateful to have taken her course. Professor Arias is so easily accessible, she is very clear with what she wants. I have taken so many other teachers and classes and Im glad to say I even find myself relearning material because of how much I loved this class !!!
Professor arias is amazing! I was nervous to take BIO2 due to the negative things I heard about it such as the difficulty and heavy work load. This class was just that but Professor Arias was there to help throughout the whole semester! Shes very understanding and makes difficult lectures easy to learn. Tests and quizzes are lecture heavy!
GR8 TEACHER!! Make sure to watch her lab&lecture videos for quizzes and exams, make detailed notes throughout sem espthe ones she highlights. ATTENDACE ISKEYTOPASSING! I highlight suggest taking her if you're gonna take micro:) STUDY WELL AND DO NOT PROCASTINATE! she doesn't assign assignments much she gives u time to study(: beware of last 2 weeks
Dr. Arias is AMAZING, very much enjoyed her class even thoe it was remote. Her lectures were engaging and interesting, feel free to ask Q's, she's very nice. Was very kind with my horrible internet situation when it came to tests. Will mention class is quiz HEAVY and I mean every week!be prepared. Absolutely recommend, one of the best prof ive taken.
She made microbio so much fun and easy to learn. She has quizzes every week and they are so helpful. Take her class!!
This class was not easy but Dr. Arias is amazing! I enjoyed her class very much. Quizzes on lecture/lab every week, 5 exams, unknown project, and lecture/lab final. It was a lot but she taught me so much about the subject. She truly cares about her students and is passionate/knowledgeable about the subject. I would take her again in a heartbeat!
She's absolutely the BEST! You'll have no regrets taking micro w/her. Yes,the workload can be heavy & a bit overwhelming, but she does her BEST to make learning easy. Tip: take micro by itself,or at least not w/other heavy courses. This class can be a challenge, but is not impossible to do great in..as long as you give every effort & do not give up!
Dr.Arias The best professor at LBCC hands down. Microbiology is 2 classes in 1. Lab/lecture quiz every week. Lectures online, 2 labs every meeting.Take GOOD Lab notes, pics, biochemical reactions &every little detail, trust me they will help for the unknown! Getting an A is possible if you put in the work. The last two weeks are tough! Take Dr.Arias!
Professor Arias is one of the best professors I've ever had. I was nervous about taking this class but she made this difficult subject as easy as it could be. There is a lot of lectures but that should be obvious as it is a 5 unit class. Take detailed notes on lectures and it will make your life so much easier. I can't recommend her enough!
There are mini quizzes, lecture quizzes, and exams. Quiz/exam questions are from her lecture/ lab material so study her PowerPoints and lecture videos. lots of opportunities for points with quizzes, hmwrk, extra credit. This class is a lot of work and time-consuming so be ready to study. Her class schedule is also clear, no surprise assignments.
She is a really kind professor and is always ready to help. The lectures are pretty heavy but she explains them so well. If you watch the lectures and really try to understand the content then you will definitely pass the class.
5/5 overall. Her class is a TON of work to do. I would say that this class is not hard at all, it just needs a lot of time from you. Her exams are the easiest I've had ever. It is written not to trick anyone. She is the MOST approachable prof, very kind. If you watch all recorded lecture, and submit everything then you will get an A.
Professor Arias is fantastic - she makes this challenging course manageable. Detailed lectures, weekly quizzes, and a heavy workload, but Arias' clear explanations and unstuckstudy make studying a breeze. Definitely take this class if you can.
Great professor, super nice and approachable. Attendance does matter and she extra points on test for being on time. Go to class and lectures, keep up with the playposits, don't fall behind, lab is super fun and lecture is very heavy but not too difficult. Make good notes and acronyms. She also has a very clear schedule so no surprises. Good luck!
Dr. Arias is literally the BEST instructor I have ever had. I still brag about having the best Micro instructor ever and it's been six years. Her lectures are comprehensive and she provides visuals and logical pathways to follow so you can understand microbiological processes on a step-by-step level while grasping the full context of the content.
So with this review keep in mind I am NOT good at science or math. This class is extremely hard and time consuming for anyone who is unfamiliar with Bio. If you're trying to get your science class in I suggest taking something like PGEOG. All her exams are proctored so you will not get away with any open book or notes you might be taking.
