good professor, tries to help as much as possible, lectures a bit stale but its not her its history...pay attention and take notes and you wont need to really read the book although it helps, hw is minimum tests are matching a few MC and 1 sentence short answers take her if you need help she's very dedicated
She is really cool and helpful. The only thing is that she teaches the class like you're all history majors. There is a ton of work even though 99.9% of the class is only taking it to transfer out. If you want to learn a lot, take her. If you want an easy A, take someone else.
Ms. fishman is young and relates to her students. shes by far one of the most helpful and committed professors at gcc. subject often lacks excitement but what can be expected from history. alot of work but mostly easy. did not use the book entire semester. recommend 100%.
So far one of the worste teachers that I had!! even though I got an A but I almost killed my self! she is crazy! sorry to have such an opinion but I almost hate the subject now, being honest History was one of my favorites before but now! NO Way, her class was terrible and a lot of work, she seems does not understand that we have other classes too
A lot of work!!!! She wants you to like history and lectures are interesting. She helped me rewrite my paper 3 times so she is helpful.
Very helpful teacher, knows what she's talking about, interesting lectures. Worth taking instead of other boring History classes. Only thing, I was confused the whole semester because she is VERY disorganized, and it can be extremely frustrating, she changes the work without you knowing as well, so be on top of things and ask questions. STUDY!
I agree to most of the comments here, especially to those ones that say that she's very disorganized. I really regret taking this course because I really liked history prior to taking her class and could have had a better learning experience rather than just having been confused the whole damn semester. She was nice but wasn't a good teacher at all
DO NOT TAKE HER!!! DOESN'T RESPOND TO EMAIL IN A TIMELY MANNER.. I EMAILED HER SO MANY TIMES AND NEVER GOT AN ANSWER. EVEN TALKED TO HER ONLINE THRU YM, FB, ETC BUT USELESS.. DONT REPLY AND EVEN IF SHE DOES, THE ASSIGNMENT YOU WANTED TO ASK ABOUT HAVE ALREADY BEEN TURNED IN CENTURIES AGO.. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME!
Ms Fishman is a good prof. She made her lectures interesting even though history is a very boring subject for me. The tests were long but not that bad as long as you study for them. There were a few papers required as well as a presentation. She can be little disorganized but take good notes and read the book and you'll do fine. She's a cool person
She is very helpfull, very nice.I have to agree that she is very unorganized.history is not my favorite subject but she makes the class fun, and tries to get students to be more involved in class lectures and activities. I willl highly recomend taking her!
Ms. Fishman is so helpful and she makes history exciting! Be sure to come to class and study for tests -- the class is challenging but rewarding. She knows so much and made me more interested in history. I found her to be very organized and helpful (especially considering how many people were in my class). Take her -- she's great!
she is very helpful. the class is not as boring as it seems. she has a great interest in telling history in her own. Honestly, she is very fun to talk to and the class is easy in my opinion. just do the work and don't slack off, if you are confuse, then ask her. no prob. overall good teacher.
oh geeze. She is a horrible teacher. So disorganized. I was confused the entire time. The quizzes were random in my opinion. Just avoid her.
Not an easy class because there will be lots of assignment but she gives extra credit and handouts before the midterm and the final
Fishman is extremely helpful and caring. I enjoyed her lectures and teaching style. There were many assignments to complete and there are no multiple choice questions. You will need to have excellent notes and read the book. I highly recommend Fishman for History, but be ready to earn your A. She is fair and always willing to help. She is AWESOME!!
avoid her! she refers to herself in 3rd person. i dont think i heard her ever say "me" or "i". extremely annoying and a lot of useless work. a lottt of homework.
well it is true that 80% of the class dropped on the first day,but we were 13 brave ones that stayed in class, my classmates and I are glad that we kept class. She is an amazing teacher, she knows what she is lecturing about. We had fun group discussions, fun lectures, and a very fun final by the way. So those of u that underestimate her r wrong!
take her, she very nice, organized, helpful, full of energy. there are no bad surprises with ms. Fishman.
Disorganized lecture style. Difficult to follow because she goes on tangents and skips from topic to topic. Not a very strict grader so chances are you will do well if you just read.
She will try hard to make you into a feminist and push you to be so. She will be mean at you if she doesn't like you and she will snap at you. I suggest taking a different teacher who doesn't get upset about you being so different. It was a good experience, I have had better teachers.
Ms. Fishman is incredible! She pushes her students to do their best. The only time she was mean was when a student failed to read the homework or input an opinion. She is helpful and interesting. She is a feminist, but she doesn't push her agenda, lets you decide. You do need excellent notes as they will be crucial when it's exam time.
ms. fishman is really a great teacher. it is a history class and at the beginning of the class i was really scared i never thought i was going to pass and by the end of the semester i got an A. ms. fishman gives alot of work so you can better understand the material, study the readings, and go over your quizes and ask questions in group discussion.
When one mentions "history", most opinion is "boring". Ms. Fishman made history come to life & interesting. I really enjoyed her class. She did give alot of assignments & outside reading besides the textbook, but this class is a transfer course, so, she's actually preparing her students. She is helpful & wants you to "get it".
Do yourself a favor and avoid her. Very lost and inconsistent. Supposed Hybrid class, but never set it up correctly. A lot of essays to write for class. She's a tuff grader, not explaining what she wants from you. MT & Final all essay.
She rocks! Lots of reading of course. Hold off on buying the book until you get the syllabus. She is super passionate about history-keeping it interesting. As long as you take tons of notes, ask ?'s, do xtra credit and study you will pass. She makes you earn your grade. You will feel overwhelmed at times, but in the end you get an awesome grade.
I took her for Fall 2010, and dont regret it. I went in not knowing if the class was easy and hating history. But wow did I learn alot, so much extra credit available. And she made it really fun and understandable! Shes really funny, and interesting. Did a GREAT job. Recommended if you want to learn alot about history. Shes Very helpful. -sev
Professor Fishman is the best history teacher on campus! She makes history interesting and fun. I never wanted to miss class. If you go to class and pay attention there is no way you get anything lower than a "B"
She is not organized at all... she says something and she changes later without letting you know... just avoid her "if you can"
Avoid her like the plague. Disorganized and flaky. She acts like a child that needs attention. Lecture contradicted book a lot. Tests/quizzes were a lot of writing. Lots of wasted time in class because of her disorganization. Not a good teacher, but ask her and she will tell you she is the best. And I got an A in her class.
SHE IS THE WORST TEACHER I EVER HAD. SHE MAKE YOU TO TURN IN YOUR PAPERS ON TIME BUT SHE DOES NOT DO HER PART AT ALL. SHE IS NOT ORGANIZED AT ALL. SHE CHANGES ASSIGNMENTS BY NOT NOTIFIYING STUDENTS. **AVOID HER*
Shes a very good teacher. her speech is quirky but comprehensive. if you like writeing you'll do well.
She is an awsome instructor. She is hard because you cannot avoid her readings and writings. There are also presentations, and you have to read the articles. So, a lot of readings and 3 essays,do not take her in the summer, it was really exhausted. If she sees you put some effort, you will get your B, but if you want an A, you have to read the book
Very helpful and nice. Her expectations are NEVER clear and her directions are very vague at best. It appears she lacks life experience based on her teaching methods. Several students have pointed out her short comings. Her grading is based off essay format writing, so you have to appeal to her biased and egotistical nature. Avoid like the plague.
...in addition she does not allow any form of technology, her lectures are 95% oral and she talks very fast. It's nearly impossible to write down all the notes and still listen to what is being said. Very unorganized. Forgets what she lectures about and then gets mad that the class has no idea what she's talking about and then resorts to "games"
Don't listen to the bad comments. She is very nice and if you take time to act like a regular student by asking questions and take notes, you should end up with a good grade. She is ALWAYS available if you have any questions with any assignment. And offers tons of extra credit. Take her if your an okay student that can handle a "college course"
An outstanding professor!Truly committed to teaching and students. She is always availavle to answer questions, help, and clarify.A lot of writing, reading, and rereading envolved. She has a rare gift of teaching and is extremely knowledgable! She made me fall in love with history! Thank you Ms. Fishman-you are a true inspiration to your students!!!
One of the best at GCC!!!Caring, excellent personality, super helpful and knoledgeable!!!Take her and she'll be there to help you all along!
Mrs Fishman is passionate about teaching and that's what makes her class enjoyable. She is there to help you so don't be scared to ask questions! Her class isn't hard, there are a lot of reading and writing assignments but just keep up with the work and you will be fine.Don't miss class because her lectures cover a lot of material so take good notes.
If you take her class, you will be sorry. She is the worst teacher that I have ever had!
She is VERY unorganized and changes things at the last minute. She is a nightmare of a teacher, especially if you are a very organized person. I tried to report her because she really shouldn't be teaching. DO NOT TAKE. She blames others for her irresponsibility.
I LOVE MS. FISHMAN!!!!Best freaken teacher alive. So passionate about what she teaches and so cool. Yes I had to do work, but of course you have to; you're a STUDENT. She's flexible and understanding.I miss that class so much, it was really a great experience. Take her!!!
Professor Fishman is really passionate about this subject which makes her a great teacher. There is a lot more reading than writing, but everything she assigns is honestly very interesting. She is flexible and gives extra credit. Unless you're trying really hard to fail, you will get a C. Lectures summarize readings and help a lot for the tests!
Cool teacher
She is the nicest, most accomidating teacher at GCC. She's really passionate in lecture and group discussion, and you learn a ton. She also goes way out of her way to make getting a good grade possible. She does extra credit, grades generously, and will even change a test to be take-home if she thinks the class is unprepared. She's pretty amazing.
Not recommended at all. Before lecturing a chapter she takes a very detailed quiz which hasn't been covered.you have to study 30-40 pages before lecturing and she takes test of them. Regarding essay questions on the test, she rarely gives credit. From a full class of 67, only 20 students remained. Not Recommended
The worst teacher. Don't take her.
I learnt a looooooot from her class. She is a good example of real instructor. Just read the articles, participate and have your opinion and u will get a high grade.
Prof. Fishman is a great teacher. She makes the class interesting and is such a sweetheart. Take her, you won't regret it. I highly recommend her. She does whatever she can to make sure you're learning and always offers extra credit. Take her!
Do not recommend! First, she is not ready yet to teach in a college, maybe in a middle school. She can assign quiz questions from the material which is not covered yet. If she says the quiz based on ch. 10-12, expect to see majority of q.s from ch.13. Lots of essays. Discussion and essay topics she assigns, are NON essential, thus hard to prepare.
Do not take her! she will lecture something and tell us to be prepared because it will be on the test and it never is. Everything she tells you that will be on the test IS NEVER ON THE TEST! She assigns something and then a week later tells us that we all did it wrong (Even though we followed her instructions) and she grades extremely hard. AVOID !
She is such a sweetheart, I enjoyed every moment of her class, she is extremely helpful and her tests are very clear and easy. I learned a lot in her class, she is a fair grader. If you want to learn something this is the class. By the way don't be afraid of her she seems to be scary but in fact she is vey kind and helpful. I do recommend her class
SHE IS THE WORST! Don't take her class especially if its summer/winter cuz she will make u read A LOT and quiz/test you on material that she never covered. She is also a really hard grader. And she's annoying.
Prof. Fishman's lectures are great and interesting. This class comes with a lot of work (reading and LOTS of papers), but if you keep up with her, you'll get a good grade. Her tests always follow the same structure and most of it is based on lecture.
I took this his class during summer and it REQUIRES you to read. If you don't read & take notes you will not do well on her quizzes or the exams. She is very clear with the material she teaches and she does offer a lot of extra credit. Take advantage of the extra credit & take advantage of her office hours or email her if you have questions!
Great Professor. Very enthusiastic about the subject. She assigns a lot of reading. But come on people this is college. We HAVE to read. But if you complain about work load, she is not your professor. She offers a lot of extra credit and hints to you what will be on your exams. TAKE ADVANTAGE
Professor Fishman is honestly one of the best History professors here at GCC. Do the work she assigns and most importantly study for the tests. She is one of the most caring professors as well! If you don't understand the material go to her office hours and she will clarifybreak it down for you. I definitely recommend her.
She is most definitely one of the best professors I've had at GCC. She genuinely cares about what she is teaching, which helps during lecture. She's super sassy , hilarious and fantastic to talk to. She loves what she does and it shows. Major kudos to her. I would love to take her again.
I wish I had dropped her class!
When you ask question she answers 'were you not in class? "or 'this is not a high school ' , but treats college students like elementary students and is very insulting.
Her lectures are very unorganized. She is all over the place. She responds to emails late. She returns papers a month after we turned them in. She comes late to class. No power points. Make sure you go to class and take those scattered notes and read the book and try to connect the dots. Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favor.
Ms. Fishman was always available and ready to help clarify assignments or discuss tests and grading. The class subject was extremely interesting, her lectures are less from the book perse but it helps if you read to give you a better understanding of the material, and yes be prepared to read a ton and or watch videos on the topics.
Take this from someone whos an A student Pros: Passionate about what she teaches, fun class activites, tests are not so hard, deff easy to pass Cons: Lectures are all over the place, She expects way too much reading (no one in our class read), grades were out of 235pts so one screw up and there goes your A, for a 3 unit class WAY TOO MUCH WORK
She ended up offering 70 points of extra credit because the 2nd test that was all written, only 8 people passed and the rest of the class failed. Organize those lectures professor! Don't get me wrong I got an A but had a terrible experience because she was taking forever to grade papers, so I didn't know my grade until 2 weeks before class ended.
Professor Fishman talks. A LOT. Her class was okay. The way she lectures keep your from falling asleep. The tests and quizzes can be tough, but she's an okay teacher.
If u want to earn an A u must read and attend class. If family emergencies arise she will work with u to ensure u pass. Go to her office and questions are clearly and patiently answered. Her teaching methods r to get u ready 4 university work. The syllabus will change in the semester. So what?
I took her class a few semesters ago and although she was passionate about her lectures, it was difficult to understand what she wanted out of papers. And reading is necessary because we have a class discussion every class. ugh. Maybe because it was a 3 hour friday class that I dreaded going.. hmm..
She is so knowledgeable and willing to help. She really did save me, and gave me the right help during office hours.
Professor Fishman is great, if you actually want to learn something take the class. She is very passionate about what she is teaching and it makes all the difference. She gives you good notes, but you also have to do the readings. The tests are usually easy if you study and do the readings. I loved this class and would take another class with her.
She gives all sides of historical events, which makes you think. I used to hate history classes because they were all about memorization. Now I see it's about critical thinking.
I looked forward to this class because it was so fun and informational. She is the best professor I have had in college! WARNING: READ! READ! READ! Literally EVERYTHING! You will have to read every single day or you WILL NOT PASS this class! It is a lot of work but if you fall behind, let her know and she is there for you. STAY CAUGHT UP ALL SEM!!!
I took History 117- alot of reading but it really helps come exam time. She spent alot of time with me on my work even when it wasn't her ofice hours. She did study groups too. I really learned a lot! I used to hate history, and now I dont.
You have to READ but she makes it fun. I dropped this class two times with other professors before I took Ms. Fishman , so I really do not like history. I finished it this semester with her while still having a pretty good time.
I hate history. I still do, but she will make you laugh and I learned to. There is reading! If you dont get the reading go see her. She will help you a lot.
Study sessions for exams, welcomes you during office hours, offers extra help, all essay questions in syllabus and given to you on the first day. what is not to like?
Loved her. Seriously take this class! You will have to read tho
Professor Fishman is definitely the professor you want for US history. She makes it so much more fun and she is hilarious. Her stories help you stay engaged in the class. Downfall is there is a lot of reading but it helps you a lot for her midterms. She's also really welcoming and there for her student. Highly recommend her
Miss FIshman was awesome! She's very helpful and easy to talk to. I suggest taking her
Ms. Fishman is amaazing !! I loved her class even tho I am super lazy . She really knows about what she is talking about ,butYou will have to read and pay attention , but she did a really good job ! really funny and it was easy to memorize everything ! You are def. gonna use the book tho!
Avoid her. Do not take this class no matter what, and take this from a 4.0 student. She's a total mess and has 0 logic. If you want peace of mind this class is not for you, you need to constantly worry about every single thing that's going on in class.
Took her class over winter, best choice ever. Intimated when class began but then I stayed another week and felt that I could at least pass. People this is college, you have to read. Not saying the class is hard, just do the work. Got a B and didn't even put much effort (actually I did but until the last week and a half). TAKE HER! The best. Trust.
A lot of reading, which I don't really mind too much (each chapter is 40 pages from one of the books we use). One problem I have with this class is that her notes are all over the place. I've written 2 pages of notes in her class that she's given, and at home for the same chapter I've written 10 pages. Something does not seem right.
She's a cool person but a terrible prof. I'm an A student used to hard work. The class isn't hard! It's her. She's unorganized. She assigned quizzes daily then didn't grade. 3 weeks behind in a 5 week class. Didnt follow through; said she'd post a reading, EC, etc then didnt and didnt tell us why until after it was due. Dont take her. Is that fair?
I understand some people hate her. I agree that she's not really organized. HOWEVER, her lecture is AMAZING. Her class lasted for 4 hours in the morning but I never got bored or tired. If you're looking for a helpful and easy teacher, don't take her. But she's great for those who wanna take an academically interesting history class!
Prof Fishman is the sweetest and you can tell she's extremely passionate about what she teaches. You NEED to read everything though, or the tests are just gonna suck for you. Ask and she'll answer as best as she can, and always take notes during lectures and group discussions- trust me, they help a ton.
Ms. Fishman is a super sweet lady but she takes women history VERY VERY VERY SERIOUSLY. Most of you ready this are taking her as just a Pre-req cause you have to take it. She takes the class way too seriously as if we are all history majors. But its a fun class, group work and you learn interesting topics. But be ready to work for an A, I got a B
Really cool teacher. I enjoyed her class. Yes you will need to read a lot but this is college not kindergarten. I will take her again
Okay to be honest, right off the bat I expected to have trouble with her class. Thankfully, I was totally wrong. Her lectures are GREAT, interesting, and overall engaging. There is a lot of material that needs to be covered since it is early U.S. history. I enjoyed the class a lot. Recommend. Textbook is ESSENTIAL, (relax it's cheap.)
I loved taking her class! Be prepared to take notes in order to study for her exams. She makes the lectures interesting and is pretty funny at times. There is a mandatory book, but i got it for 2 bucks on amazon so don't sweat it. Put a little effort into it and you'll get an A with no problem.
Professor Fishman is incredibly intelligent and interesting. I have enjoyed every lecture as she truly is passionate about her subject matter. She is energetic and expects participation. She is fair and explains everything. She is definitely one of my favorites. Read ahead of schedule to be prepared.
This professor for History, was not the best. She does give HW, and the HW does require that you read the required material. Tests are extremely difficult (I believe no multiple choice at all, all free response and matching which had 30 definitions for only 15 questions). Lectures were long boring. Be prepared to study, or else you wont pass.
By far the best professor I have had! She takes time to really make sure you pass the class and you enjoy the class. Her passion for the subject really reflects on students. She's a very sweet woman that is truly there for you. Don't miss class, read the book (will help out a lot), ask questions and visit her office hours for extra help.
Absolutely loved her class! The final is with a group, and the tests are a mixture of matching/essay/true false. Definitely would take again/recommend to anyone. She also offers E.C.
Before this class I hated history in general but I needed to take this class for a pre requisite. Professor Fishman made this class interesting and made me actually want to learn and go to class everyday. Now after taking her class I wish every teacher at GCC was like her. She is a great teacher and actually knows how to teach while making it fun!
Take her she's amazing! I hate history so i was worried about this class and it ended up being my favorite of the semester! Her lectures are very interesting, and informative. You will have to read a lot and study to pass! gives extra credit on her tests!
I love her!! Shes the sweetest and funniest person. I took this class Pass/No pass because I was taking anatomy too, but I regret it soo much. I basically got an A. All you have to do is take notes and read the book! She literally tells you whats gonna be on the exam. She offers a lot of ec too. shes really funny and cool!! Really recommend.
Good teacher! Interesting lecturer. Make sure you read! This is college... read, come prepared to class, and study before the tests. You will be fine! The people that are complaining want an easy ride. You have to do some work for your grade. An A is easily attainable. I would def take her again.
She is super nice and caring! She went out of her make sure we understood the material, and she definitely expects you in class!
she is the best! There is a lot of reading , but the tests are very straight forward. You have to pay attention in class too. She is super understanding and wont mind helping you! there are also a few quick writes, but they are okay
DON'T TAKE HER! You have to teach yourself. Messy & unorganized. Lectures are disorderly & don't cover much. SHE MADE OUR FINAL ON THE CIVIL WAR AND SHE DIDN'T COVER OR GIVE READINGS ON THE CIVIL WAR. Also spent the entire semester rambling about how she used to be a costume designer. She can go back to that, teaching is definitely not her forte.
Took Prof. Fishman's Women's History class for winter. I was intimidated at first--the class is very lecture/reading heavy. It was A LOT of work and I'm not usually fond of history. I stuck it out and I ended up LOVING this class. The tests aren't bad, lots of extra credit. She sets up the hw so that it makes the content stick. Just don't be lazy!
Took Professor Fishman for winter and I hate history so much that on the first day I considered dropping her class. SUPER glad I didn't because it was one of the best classes ever. There is a lot of reading but as long as you actually read everything you will pass your exams with an A. she is very generous and gives extra credit for every test.
I took Professor Fishman for Hist111 in winter and she gives tons of readings every day. We got behind schedule and I never really knew what was on the tests. However, the tests were pretty easy because we worked with the material a lot. Therefore, thanks to her demand of hard work, I learned a lot and I really enjoyed the class.
Took her Hybrid faster paced 8 week history class. As she warned, it was like going downhill on a bike with no brakes! All of the answers are in the readings. It is a lot of reading, but hey, that's History class. She's super caring and energetic. She brought History to life during a 7pm-10pm class. Give her respect, and she'll give you hers.
Hey, I left a comment hear and now its taken off. So, shes a horrible instructor. Very unorganized and messy. She forces you to participate in stupid discussions, and if you dont ask a question she gives you a bad grade.
I took Prof Fishman's hybrid class in 8 weeks. She answered my questions, emails, and made extra time for me because of my work schedule. There is A LOT of reading, but the work she assigns helped me figure stuff out. I still hate history, but I enjoyed the class.
She should not be teaching. Very unorganized her lectures are all over the place. Half of the material you read is not on the test. Truly a disgrace to the history dept at GCC as they have many amazing professors and she is not one of them. Do not take her!
I hate history but I decided to take this professor's class because it fit my schedule. Sadly, she does not teach very well, even though she is kind and tries to help during office hours. I was willing to actually learn and like history as a subject but I ended up learning more by watching history lessons online. Oh, and I still don't like history.
As with any class you need to show that you are putting in effort by showing up and doing assignments I learned a ton from her she is very nice and understanding. It is always very clear what will be on the exams and she gives really helpful practice online quizzes. Her enthusiasm and passion for the subject makes you want to learn more.
DONT TAKE HER ONLINE. She is a phenomenal lecturer. Everything else is awful. She's extremely unclear about instructions, terrible at communicating and clarifying these unclear factors, constantly drops the ball with assignments online, overcomplicates the class with unnecessary, tedious work and really shouldn't be teaching an online/hybrid class.
She is extremely disorganized and has a horrible attitude. if you ask her a question be prepared to be met with a combative tone. Last minute changes and we are punished for that when grading time comes.
I took her for history of women in America (which I thought would be boring), but I actually learned a lot, and she made it interesting. This class is not a free A, she makes you work for it, but if you put in effort and the time she tells you to it is not too hard to get an A. take this if you want to learn something new and don't mind a challenge
Lots of homework
Great professor but incredibly unorganized. Lectures are good, she enjoys what she does but between lecture and her online assignments, you are left all over the place. Her lectures tell this, but the assignment tells something else. Very disorganized in that you can't find all assignments online, projects are assigned extremely last minute.
Prof. FIshman is very enthusiastic about the subject and her love for the history shows through her lectures. She is very caring and understands life happens. I learned so much about the women in American history and would love to read more about the women who fought for the change and freedom for American women.
Prof Fishman is really nice and makes her lectures interesting. There is a lot of group work and reading. She doesn't really have solid notes so it is hard to follow sometimes and know what she wants you to takes notes on, so ask questions. Her tests are hard but if you study & put in work you'll do good. She does offer some extra credit.
Dont take her
I enjoyed this class. I really learned a lot. There is a good deal of reading. The tests were open book. Make sure you take notes in lectures. That really helps. She has office hours and makes herself available if you are struggling. I enjoyed how she lectured. She likes class participation. There are options for extra credit. Great history class!
This was my favorite class this semester it was so informative and gives you a different look on history. I loved every class because it was so interesting!
Dont not take her class! As woman taking womens history it was sad and pathetic. Disorganized, bad time management, and rude to students! Find another professor to teach about the history of women! I rather take another difficult math class than take this again. If you have time differences, she will not accommodate to them, so be careful!
If you like unorganized, unclear explanation or directions, bad time management, and rude teachers? This is the professor for you! Please save your time and NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! There are better history teachers at GCC!
I would take her again. Warning its a lot of reading but she was great and very helpful. She gives you all the assignments at the beginning of the week for her online class and as long as you get it done its easy to get a good grade. Your grade is a reflection of your own discipline.
There is a lot of reading for the class, but if you do all the assignments, read what you need to read, ask questions and just do your work, you will be good. Also, there is at least one quiz at the end of each week, if not more.
It doesn't matter if your notes are mastery level or a single dot on the page. You're gonna receive the same points. Don't bother reading the book or putting in much effort, Just google everything on test day. Keep your mouth closed, listen in class, and don't participate unless you want to be singled out, you'll receive an A.
Had her for a summer 117 course. Due to the nature of a summer course, it was a lot of reading and homework. However, she is a very fair and understanding professor with a clear passion for the subject. she is quick with grading and responding overall, very organized as well. there are frequent quizzes but they are easy and often based off the hw.
She is a very mid teacher, she only does lectures but does not do any powerpoints for visual aides, she draws timelines on the board that includes way too much information but then erases it before you can draw the timeline., the textbook for this class has been of no help whatsoever, and the class is literally all reading I'd avoid at all costs
Despite the fact that Professor Fishman is a nice person, she makes her class far harder than it has to be. Every week, she forces you to watch a variety of videos. Her assignments, despite her best efforts, are illogical despite her creativity. Instead of just assigning a paper and keeping things rolling, she made us make our own midterm.
Robyn is a good professor who is clearly invested in what she's talking about. Unfortunately, like many professors in this day and age, she is burdened by outside factors that you only understand after taking one of her classes. Assignments are often vague and without proper direction. Despite this, she does work with you and gives good feedback.
SHe is very nice, but she gives tooooooo much reading and watching videos during the week. All assignments together are about 100 pages to read, and nearly 5 hours videos per week. Her tests are sometimes not clear and instructions and expectations also are not clear. Would not reccommend if you don't want to be stressed all week.
She gives lots of sources to read and watch besides the book. Her assignments are illogical and tests are heavy. Her class is unorganized and much harder than it should be. Never take her if you don't want to be stressed all the time. If you take her, be sure that all other classes would be at the second place as this one will take all your time.
Her sources are endless and you should read and learn too much during the week. The textbook is itself heavy, but she gives loooots of other sources except it. Her tests are heavy. Her assignments are opinionated and you never knows how she grades.avoid her
The professor makes the class much more difficult than it supposed to be. She gaves 5 to 6 hours videos to watch and over 50-100 pages to read during the week. It is the most time-consuming course I had at GCC. Avoid her for not being stressed all the time. If you are not a Native English speaker, the class would be muuuch more difficult.
She is unorganized and gives loooots of readings and videos per week. My other classes went to the second place as this class takes all my time. Avoid her and avoid stress
She makes the subject much more difficult than it supposed to be. AVoid her and take other professor.
I ruined my GPA in this class. Her tests are heavy and readings are endless. do yourself a favor and avoid her
Her assignments are illogical and very tests are very heavy. The most stressful class at GCC.
She is hyper-political and her grading clearly reflects her political ideology. I took the class to learn history, not to be convinced that a particular ideology is more pure than another. She sees ideas that conflict with hers as lacking evidence. I think she is a nice person and a passionate professor, but her class is OVERLY complicated.
Professor Fishman is brilliant, but, she is disorganized and rather condescending towards her students. In class, ahe was spitting out definitions of different things rather than really teaching the history. I had to put a copious amount of work into studying what she didn't cover in class.
I took Professor Fishman for History 117 in Fall and I regretted it from the first week. She gives a lot of homework every week and requires a lot of reading. She also gives 2-3 quizzes and tests every week and is a tough grader on writing portions of the test. Be ready to do a lot of work and be mindful before selecting the class.
Professor Fishman is well-versed in her courses' learning points. She can be a bit disorganized but makes up with her understanding and flexibility. Although her assignments seem like busy work, they provide critical background for the history she teaches. Eeverything we cover is important to know even if it doesn't show up on the exam.
Be ready for this class to overtake all your other classes and responsibilities. I regretted taking this class first week in but I pushed thru cause I needed it. Command F was my bestie and I stressed too much for a standard history class. If you can, I recommend taking a less extreme prof for ur mental health. She is very nice though
Great professor. You do want to take notes every day during the lectures because the exams and tests are all based on them. The textbook isn't required to buy because she provides all of the PDFs on canvas and there was a lot to read. There was an important research project due at the end of the semester. She is very understanding and caring!!
She is very communicative and supporting. Ensures a friendly atmosphere in the classroom. Passionate about whatever she's talking about.
Avoid this class if you want to keep your sanity. The workload is heavy, the tests are brutal, and the professor makes everything more difficult than necessary. But unstuck ai helped me survive the endless readings and videos.
