VERY straight forward!With her being young made the class more fun/interesting. She kept us on our toes and can definently detect slackers. All work is relevant to the material/lesson in which she is trying to teach. Must put in work for an A, definently possible and class work assignments help to understand work and improve grade.

She is the best teacher I've had in English so far. She is really helpful, and she is a hardworker;she encourages others to come to her office for help(very, very helpful).I learned a lot form her. Work hard and you will get an A+. You won't regret taking her class. She is the best!!!

class is definitly hard, lots of work but its worth it if you want to get better at writing. she is tough but will stay real late to help you with papers, makes herself available. if you want an easy class, stay away, but if you want to learn, do it!

She's one of the best professor's I've ever had. I'm a Journalism major and wanted a class I'd actually learn skills that I need and be challenged, and I'm getting that. If you're looking for an easy A, probably go somewhere else. She wants students to succeed, but she wants them to actually work for their grades and learn. She's also very helpful

All around a good class. She is a pretty cool teacher if you talk to her a little but she does grade papers pretty tough. I worked my butt off and got a B. Don't miss class, become friends with her, and write some good paper and you should do well.

A wonderful teacher! Yes she can be sarcastic, but it's about things the students generally find sarcastic too. Her love for the subject, as well as really caring how her students do is refreshing. She expects a lot of you, but will do everything she can to help you.

Anyone w/ a complaint regarding Russo, in my observation, is not adult enough to be enrolled in college. She is certainly not easy, but so long as you are open to learning and responsible w/ performing your duties, she is certainly not impossible, and as the saying goes 'will teach you to fish for life.' We need more professors like her.

Russo is definitely bossy and critical. She tends to criticize people openly and makes a good job of making you feel like an idiot for a small error you made. She is tough and if you do the work you'll be fine, but she's so negative and takes her job EXTREMELY to serious and important

She's a prototype teacher. Definitely challenging, but will work with you and help you out throughout the learning process. There really should be more teachers like her because she challenges just enough to push you to succeed. She is VERY flexible. She grades hard, but gives you a chance to revise. Take her and your love of English will only grow

She is a great teacher! Take her class! She is very inspiring and she makes you feel comfortable for class participation. She is amazing, I really enjoy her class! She is funny and a great teacher! Professor Russo is the most strict understanding teacher I have had. Some people who think she takes her job to seriously, well you people just want to get a passing grade easily. She is not just a grade A giver !! ok. She is very clear on assignments, and is very helpful if you come to her for help. She's a great professor. I'd recommend =)

Professor Russo is an interesting professor. She has more passion than any other professor that I have had so far. However sometimes she becomes very emotional in class which is unsettling for most of the students. Moreover, she really works hard to make sure everyone is engaged and learning in class. Furthermore, she is a tough grader be ready.

Be prepared to do A LOT of work. She is a tough grader and the assignments are not too easy. I would say take it. You will get a lot out of this class, but be sure you have enough time to spend on preparing for it.

Great teacher, great class! Very clear and helpful. Be prepared to work, but the work is fair and she gives it to you for a reason. Lots of office hours which is a super easy way to bump your grade up. If you like english and want to learn something useful, take Russo.

If you're just trying to get composition out of the way, like I was, you won't enjoy the class at all at first, as you'll be way out of your comfort zone. However, it's worth it. Professor Russo is an excellent teacher. Her feedback on your drafts is clear and direct, and as long as you do what's required of you, you'll succeed. Read the syllabus!

This class is not easy however Russo is a great teacher and will help you out if you have conflicts in you life with her class. Not to mention she is quite attractive.

I loved having her for a teacher! You can tell that she really cares about her students learning experience. She holds herself and her students to a very high standard, so this is not a class that you can sleep through and still pass.

Professor Russo is by far my favorite professor. She is very intelligent when it comes to her teaching. She is a fly person. I can say if one is to take this course do not let the work scare you it will only better your writting skills.

Professor Russo is my favorite professor at NOVA. She is always willing to help you in any way and her instructions are always very clear. She has 15 minute office hours the day after a draft is due to go over with you one-on-one what you could improve. By far the best teacher I have had so far, take her!

Russo is an amazing teacher. English was my least favorite class since I could remember but apparently I am pretty good at it. She may grade harshly but you get whatever grade you deserve. She helps you every step of the way. It is a hard class but you walk away a better writer if you apply yourself and take advantage of her help. I got an A!

Professor Russo is very helpful, and competent. She can come of as rude sometimes, but I guess that is the way she is. She is very straight forward about her essays. She will give you her personal feedback before you turn an essay in, that gives you the chance to work on it more, and get an A. She is hard, but helpful and cares.

Don't expect to slack in this class. Put in the effort & you'll do fine. She really challenges you, & I believe I became a better writer because of her. But if you just want to cruise, look for a different prof.

Although she is very arrogant, Prof. Russo is very helpful. She is passionate about the class and the readings. If you are looking to take an easy summer DO NOT take this class. Work is moderate, but there is a lot of reading and writing.

Follow her directions, read Sparknotes/Schmoop about the stories and poems before class, and you'll be fine. Always bring your book. She always responds via email in a timely manner.

Russo made me want to be a lit major. I had never taken a 200 level English class before and although I spent hours forming A worthy papers, the end result turned me into a distinguished and eloquent writer. If you want a fun and thought-provoking challenge, take her class. She truly is passionate about her art and will assist if needed.

She could come out as a very rude person but as a teacher she is amazing! She gives you a chance to work on your papers and gives you key points to get you an A. I loved her class and will take ENG 112 with her next year, so I do recommend her. Just please don't slack!

A great professor. She provides amazing feedback on papers in order to help you get an A in the class. She is willing to do anything it takes to help you succeed as long as you show her that you are willing to try your best. You learn a lot from her and I definitely would take her again.

She is a excellent teacher and you can tell she cares, however she can come off rude and sarcastic making you not want to ask a question she explained. If you normally get A's expect to get a B. While she is a hard teacher I learned a lot from her class. Do exactly what she says and you will be fine.

I took Professor Russo two semesters at nova and she is by far the professor that has impacted me the most in my academic career. I transferred to George Mason and I still look at her comments on my papers and the outlines she gave us. Writing for a four year school is hard, so without her guidance and helpfulness I would be lost.

I loved professor Russo! Her humor is everything that you look for in a teacher and she's intimidating enough to make you strive for that A. I almost want to track her to make sure I take another class with her again! BUT PLEASE BE ON TIME ESPECIALLY THE FIRST DAY!!!

Professor Russo is by far one of the rudest professors I have ever had. With that said she also clearly knows what she is doing. The grading is tough and the class work is a decent amount, but long story short if you can't handle someone with attitude do not take her. It's not an easy A but I do feel that she helped me learn a lot in the long run.

I took her six weeks class and had to read two novels and a Shakespeare play. So much reading in 6 weeks. Not an easy A class, you have to work hard to earn an A. Final exam is not easy either. Makes you analyze A LOT.

She is amazing I had her for 211 and 212 because I loved taking her class. If you need help with grammar or anything in your writing she will be helpful and amazing. She is great her lectures go by so quickly and also is enjoyable.

Professor Russo is one of the hardest professors I have taken at NOVA. She is willing to help you through all of your assignments, and actually requires you to meet with her several times throughout the semester. She is a very harsh grader. If you're looking for a nice teacher and an easy A do not take her! She does make you work for a good grade.

best professor at Nova. Super helpful, everything is about getting feedback on your work. Gives out tons of extra credit. Really clear and provides great examples to help get started on your writing. Always had office hours. Classes were interesting and the books we did weren't bad. Group work and participation is key.

She's a really good professor. I can actually say that I improved as a writer after taking her class. As long as you do the work on time and take her feedback into account, you'll do fine in the class.

Professor Russo is the best English professor I have taken at NOVA. Although the reading is a lot, there are only three papers due throughout the semester and each one she walks you through to make sure you are successful. Always available for office hours/email. She cares about the students' ability to write.

Professor is very good when it comes to grading papers, she gives clear feedback on what we need to change. 3 papers are given and drafts are necessary to complete so she can give feedback on what we need to add or change. She makes it a point in repeating her office hours in case you need help. Homeworks were relatively easy with reading involved.

I'm quiet surprised she has such a low rating, I think she is honestly such a great teacher. Lectures are short , the rest of the time you are working on in class writings or working on your own english essays. I would definetely take her again, . Do not take her if you are just gonna slack off, she grades very good for hard workers.

So far one of the best professors I have had at NOVA, and is really passionate about the subject. I took Women in Literature with her, and it was one of the best, most interesting classes I have taken. She is a fair grader, gives lots of help and feedback on the writing, and I really enjoyed the class discussions cause they actually stimulated me.

I'm taking her online ENG111 class, this summer, and I was so nervous because I always did awful in English, I hate it, but she gives so many chances for help. always has office time, easy to meet. i had to ask for an extension twice, no problem, she d gets you have a life. gives so much feedback, like little videos. I'd take again for sure!

Had to take ENG112 online because of covid, I hate online class but this one was good, only one where I got a A . Kinda tough grader but she lets you revise everything, gives extra time if you ask. Not much HW -- really just stuff for three papers cause she does stuff in-class. Also talks to you and tells you exactly what to do to revise stuff!

I worry about English because i just came here 3 years ago, Im not great, and scared of online classes. She was really understanding, was easy to meet in Zoom. Makes helping videos for the whole classs she sends in Canvas and makes you special feedbacks videos for your big papers draft&outline, makes easy to do good. Really helpful!

I took NOVA Jump Start program. Heading in to this class I was not a confined writer to say the least. After taking this class with Prof. Russo I became a more confident writer. you will pass the class if you try and use her feedback. She focuses on the writing process and just not the final essay, so do the work.

I used to hate English before I came to college. However, Professor Russo has made it really fun. As long as you show up for class and complete all of your assignments on time you will do good. She assigned fun projects as well.

Professor Russo is the type of professor I wish we had more of. Have never experienced such a kind, understanding and compassionate professor. She gives extensions no matter what the reason so long as you ask before the due date, she provides opportunities to turn work back in and make corrections, and she really pushes for everyone to succeed.

I would take her again and I truly recommend her as a teacher, specially to those students who struggle with English as their second language. She is a teacher that understands that you have a life outside of school- she allows for make up work, test and papers. 2. She is RESPONSIVE and WANTS you to succeed. Hands down the BEST teacher !

If English is not your thing, she might be the best professor for you. Her lectures are great and easy to follow. Quizzes are straight to the point and easy if you pay attention to lectures. Her assignments are easy if you follow directions, and she gives great feedback!

Hated English prior coming to this class. She gives amazing lectures, and her quizzes are pretty much easy A's. Her assignments are really helpful leading to the unit paper. She will give extended deadlines if you are struggling on a paper. Very helpful and gives GREAT FEEDBACK on your papers.

From ESL to Eng 111 wasnt easy for me. Luckiky, I attended her class. I've learned a lot from her class and projects. Highly recommend ESL students take her class to improve writing skills for college. (I attended both of Eng 111 and Eng 112)

I took her class with Prof Bai ESL 51 and it is the best. I tell EVERYONE yes, do those two together! Prof Russo gives so good feedbacks, and she is so easy to meet for help. I had to go back to my country near the end, and she was so kind, I was ready to drop the class but she said, no, you can do it -- and she helped me finish with an A!

I am taking her for an online class this summer, and she's great; I hate online classes usually but she's really easy to meet on Zoom, she's really caring if you are in trouble, she gives really nice feedback where she makes videos for you that are so good to help. I am actually waiting to take 112 until she teaches it, I like her that much.

I had prof Russo as my teacher for my ENG111 summer class and she was absolutely amazing. She accepts late work if told reasoning before the due date. She's easily accessible through zoom and email. Grades work fast and gives back good feed and advice. I wish I had her for ENG112 but I applied late.

Note: This class was online and asynchronous. Professor Russo was very helpful due to the feedback given on my assignments and the amount of chances I received to improve my some of my assignments. I had a compare and contrast essay that I had a lot of difficulty with and she gave me many chances in improving my grade. Ms. Russo was very patient.

I am taking her ENG 111 and ready to sign up for her 112; the assignments are all really different and mostly fun -- there are some hard but she lets you revise EVERYTHING and more than once too, so it's actually pretty easy to do well, you just have to try. Was really easy to meet with her, helpful.

Great professor, she really cares about her students I had her and when she noticed I didn't do an assignment she would always be kind and extended the due date. Overall she's a great professor and recommend her. Assignments are not difficult, just ask for help and she got you.

I took her and Prof Bai for 111 and 95, and this is the best class ever, I was so nervous because I had been out of school, but it was so good. She is very patient, give you lots of feedbacks and lets you revise as much as you want (I revised every paper until I got 100, she was happy to let me!) so don't wait, take it!!!

I loved Professor Russo! Her assignments are unique and she really emphasizes the peer reviewing process. The feedback I got on my assignments was always super thorough and helpful. She is also available for office hours and gives extra feedback if you email her. Pretty easy to pass if you stay on top of your work.

Allots plenty of time to complete assignments, lenient with extensions, and gives insightful personalized video feedback for most writing assignments. Every writing draft assignment includes an explicit rubric, and an accompanying peer review assignment- there is a large emphasis placed on making changes based on this peer feedback.

Professor Russo is very passionate about her job. She will challenge you, yes, but productively and helpfully. There is a lot of reading (at least for the class I took, American Literature) but that is to be expected for the course topic. She provides wonderful feedback and will tell you exactly what you need to work on to succeed.

I cannot suggest her enough! I took her hybrid course this fall and I was totally failing, had a lot going on. But she stayed on me-- got an A. Basically you can rewrite any thing you want, you just keep doing it so yeah you work but getting an A is easy so long as you write and she will help you SO much. Helpng me with my transfer essay right now!

I take her and prof yubai for ENG 111 and I was so scared, it took my twice to do ESL51. But this teacher, she is so good and kind. I had to take class on zoom because I have kids, i do not like being online, but I was happy in class time because it was fun. I learned so much, useful thing like resumes too. Do not be scared, definitely take her!

Had Prof Russo online for ENG 112 and just signedup for her literature, gives the BEST feedback and makes it so clear what to do to get an A. She does expect you to revise but she is so nice if you have any setbacks, made me a whole new schedule when my work got all messed up. Most online teachers don't care, half don't answer. She does! TAKE HER!

Failed this course twice but finally made it through with her -- very easy to understand, makes helpful videos, always answers your Email. Helped me with my transfer essay too! honestly hate English but I'd do another class with her as it really was good.
