Fantastic! Wasn't interested in the course but she brings such passion that you can't help but enjoy it! Fairly easy mark, but you do have to pay attention and DO THE READING! Lots of reading assigned and exams do reference it. If you can take her class definately do! Will happily give extra help and will always clarify if you're not understanding
One of the best teachers I ever had...very passionate and always willing to help you in and out of class. At first I wasn't interested in the topic but she made it really cool to study.

I enjoyed the class very much. The profeesor was very knowledgeable in the subject area and made the course very interesting and distinct from other courses that I had taken with using real life examples in class; e.g. video clips, surveys. Also, she created a very friendly class environment , which made it an excellent place for learning.
Teacher was enthusiastic but course had way too much reading, assignments weren't returned for ages. I wouldn't recommend it.
a great professor!
Very clear and helpful prof. Always enthusiaitc to help her students and wants everyone to succeed. She makes lecture interesting by keeping the class upbeat
Awesome teacher and really easy class. Really cares about her students, and if you need extra help she'll totally give it to you. easy ease marker on exams too.
A horrible prof. She is rude and unwilling to take a difference of opinion lightly.
An okay course. For the exams, details count. There aren't many big theories to test you on, so minor things will have to fill in. Memorize memorize memorize!
Crisp, smart and engaging. Cares about her students; she does this by learning each student's name (upwards of 235)!! Supporter of athletes and encourages university involvement. Consistently swarmed by students at the end of each class. A gem for the faculty
The best teacher I have had. Very committed to her students. Exams are fair and the assignments are fun.
Great prof who actually tries to get to know who you are. Very interesting class.
Very enthusiastic and caring when it comes to student needs. She learns all the students names (no joke--I doubted it myself until she called me by my name before I introduced myself!) However, I think the course should be a 4-credit course. There is WAY too many readings required and if you're taking a regular 4-course/5-course workload it is quit
GREAT PROFF, VERY ENTHUSIASTIC BUT THERE WAS WAY TOO MUCH READING FOR A FIRST YEAR 3 CREDIT CLASS.
She is excellent. Teaches the concept well...If you attended all the classes, you should do pretty well.
Very cheerful and energetic professor! She makes lectures really interactive by allowing student input and ideas every class. The course itself involves a lot of reading, but it is relatively light. Take the class with her if you can... yes, there's a lot of work to get you involved and thinking, but I found it enjoyable and rewarding!
content was not the most interesting and lots of readings but overall she was solid. marking tends to be on the easy side but the final was challenging so dunt forget to read.
Amazing Prof. She cares a lot about the students and makes an A+ achievable. The readings she assigns are interesting and I found it took less than an hour a week to stay on top of the readings.
It was an ok class. Books were not worth purchasing. Exams were fair, a bit on the easy side. Not a lot of conceptual questions so you do need to memorize some of the material. Lots of reading, but not difficult. Assignments took a while to be returned. She was enthusiastic about the subject, which made class more interesting.
she is a teacher who always promised you something..but ended up not doing it.Too much reading and the midterm and never prapare for class.
I have never had a prof like Dr.Tucker before. She cares about all her students and does everything in her power to make sure you get the best grade possible. I highly reccommend HSCI 130 with Dr.Tucker!
Awesome Prof! She really wants her student's too succeed and will go over and beyond if you put in the effort! I recommend taking any of her classes. I took HSCI 130...there is quite a bit of work but its worth it!
she says she cares about students but when u email her she does not reply!...seriously wtf was that!
Easiest class in the world, however, Dr. Tucker is not as nice as she appears. She's nice in class and friendly when she sees you but will leave you ghigh and dry when you need help, even if she's promised to help you. Don't count on her for anything.
Great prof! I don't know what is with these other students who gave a bad comment. Easy material, lots of reading but if you do it you will do great on exams. Dr. Tucker allowed me to make up some assignments which most prof's dont. Highly recommended prof!
Good professor, very helpful. always suggest students to form a study group. we learn a lot outside the textbook.for the mid-term and final exam, study lecture note and form a study group to discuss. learn from the process of discussion.
Good professor, very helpful. always suggest students to form a study group. we learn a lot outside the textbook.for the mid-term and final exam, study lecture note and form a study group to discuss. learn from the process of discussion.
The person who spammed a bunch of comments obviously put in ZERO effort to succeed in her class. I studied hard for the midterm, did awesome, put in minimal effort for the final and got a minimal grade. Returns e-mails right away, stays online to answer questions before exams. Awesome Prof, passionate about the subject. Definitely take her class
Definitely one of the better professors I have had. She helped me through a hard time with a personal traumatic event and even gave me extensions for exams. No prof has really put that much effort into getting to know their students! A+
as I was saying, she does a lot for her students in terms of e-mailing, accomodation, and so many other things, considering she has a lot on her own plate too! She is not a robot who sits behind the comp 24/7 ready to respond e-mails, if you can't get a hold of her, GO VISIT HER! she does have office hours! straight up! so don't be talking smack!
Most amazing Prof ever here at SFU. Cares deeply about her students, their learning, and her teaching. Marking was fair and reasonable. Made class interesting and enjoyable. Would reccommend her to everyone and for any class :)
I took this in 2006, I enjoyed the class. I was new and I slacked of a bit. She was really good at teaching, and getting everyone involved and helping students. take her if you want to be treated well. Do the readings ahead of the time, be in class on time and get involved in the class conversations.
it was the first time Hsci211 class being offered. It was taught by Dr. Ro and Dr. Corber. Both great teachers. They were organized and highly enthusiastic. what I learned from this class was do the readings ahead of time and be prepared to get involved in the class conversations.
She's really nice!! It is required that you do attend the class because if you do miss a lecture it's kinda hard to follow because she doesn't follow the text book. I have no idea why, but her exams are kinda hard for me. The questions seem straightforward but it seems that I cant get them correctly. Read lecture notes, and ask her for help!!
Recommend take this class with Tucker. She understands her students and does her best to help us learn the material.
One of the best profs i have had so far! You can tell she really enjoys teaching and her midterm and final were completely fair! She is a very helpful and a good go-to person, even for questions regarding other classes!
Rochelle is a wonderful teacher. Never have i seen a more enthusiastic and caring person. I enjoyed her class thoroughly and suggest to those interested in health science to attend her lectures.
Great, Great, Great?.simply great. She loves the class and makes everyone interested in it as well. The assignments are long but fun. The readings are the only downside to the class; way TOO MUCH TO READ (should be a 4 credit class with that much reading). The midterm and final are very fair. Overall, I would recommend taking the class with Dr. Ro
I didn't ever think a prof could be so passionate about teaching a class. She is the most wonderful prof I've had in my 3 years at SFU. She's unusual in that she doesn't believe in standing in front of a class and talking for 50 mins, she's all about discussion. She is an amazing prof, highly recommended. I'll be taking a fourth year class with he
I enjoyed this class! Dr. Ro is really engaging with the material which is refreshing. If you're looking for an "easy" class where you can sit on your butt and be antisocial this isn't it. I'm introverted & lived. If you're genuinely interested in Health Science this is a good intro. Stay on top of notes/readings, go to tutorial and you'll be fine.
Dr. Ro is a great prof, shes really engaged and obviously very passionate about the subject. Great class. Midterm was very detailed so quite difficult, assignments were long and worth little, and tons of reading! Just make sure to stay on top of it all if your going to take this class. Its very interesting but has lots to do!
don't take this class if you are looking for easy marks! She hands out too many assignments! (4 take home and this isn't even a W class, plus numerous in class "activities" which are lame! ie. "what did you learn during this course?" this is not highschool)exams are hard and way too much reading! Although dr.ro is nice...that class is useless!
The course is only fun if youre the type of person that likes to get engaged and involved. There really is a ton of reading that you have to do and midterms and final is not really based on textbook reading so you have to know what to study. There are a lot of assignments but I believe it pulls up your overall mark as the exams are pretty hard.
Dr.Ro(this is one of the names she told us to use) is a very good professor, caring, helpful, hardworking. The content in the other hand is challenging for me. I couldn't understand a majority of the material that was taught because of the scientific terms, graphs and methods, etc. The exams are out of my control in someway. Hard.
When Dr. Ro and her TA's mark they are inconsistent. I would not recommend this prof to no one.
your graed depends on your TA. I attended all tutorials and participated well everytime. the f***ing TA gave me 8.5/10. When you get your assignmnet mark, I recommend you to compare your work with other classmates. Even though your fr get lots of mistakes about grammar, your fr may get more mark than you. Marking is not fair.
She is by far the best prof I have ever had, her classes require you to work hard but she's just so passionate about teaching. I loves open discussion and allows everyone to voice their opinion. she has the most amazing memory out of all the profs that have ever thought me.She members people by name and face even after years.Class discussion's key
Best course ever!!! I have taken another course with her. She's a great prof. Take her if u like to work hard n want to be recognition as a 3rd and 4th year student. Definitely recommend her to everyone that want to start learning in a new way that isn't just trying to remember stuff n be able to recall on the test. Oh btw no exmas for this class:)
TOO MANY READINGS + ASSINGMENTS +DISCUSSION ! exams are hard when the material is not based on lecture! and too much readings for an intro first year course!
I respect Dr. Ro so much and I'm a first year. She got her Phd from Harvard!! She played a big role in building the faculty of health science so she knows what she's doing and she is passionate about the stuff she's teaching. A lot of work yes, but with a consistent effort, you will enjoy this course
As a person, she's great. But her organization is terrible. It took her a month in order to give us our first midterm back, and there's way too many readings. They do, however, help you with your understanding about the lectures. READ! She does not take criticism well, said we have serious issues if we depend on lecture slides for studying purposes
Dr. Ro has a bad judgement on people. I don't know about the other TA's, but the one I had was horrible. Marking was completely unfair. Unnecessarily rude comments. Dr. Ro could have made a better decision!
I love Dr. Ro as a person. She is amazingly passionate about her work and loves what she does. However, because she is so busy being involved in great causes and research, things tend to be unorganized in the course. The courseload is also ridiculously insane, I would recommend taking 130 with another prof that is easier if you want to take it easy
Very nice prof. However, she is not organized AT ALL. Her course contains multiple readings and assignments. This course is NOT a GPA booster, despite what people say.
In the beginning of our class she had stated she didn't care for us.
Dr. Ro is one of the best proff's I have ever had. No joke! Very helpful, fair and makes class interesting because she actually cares about what she's teaching. Recommend any of her classes! I've taken a few now and if you put in the work and attend classes you'll do great!
Horrible professor. Extremely disorganized, unhelpful, and did not care about her students at all. She frequently had us watch movies instead of having lectures and left her office hours early because of her daughter. Quizzes were hard. Final was outrageously long and detailed. Be prepared to fail if you don't like memorizing everything.
She is a nice person but when it comes to her as an educator not so good. She is disorganized and doesn't keep her promises. Such as having marks up. Way to many movies. Tutorial and class were not cohesive...pointless. Easy class, quizzes were easy and text book usage was low. She's nice just got a good prof. She also doesn't make the class fun.
Where do I start really disorganized, it will take her forever to get grades up and to respond to email. Too many movies, too often life interferes with her class. Seriously grades WOW takes FOREVER, however office hours are helpful and she tells u directly whats on midterm (big mark questions). Final couldve been better, Review session was helpful
Her tests are ridiculous. Although I've done well on it i find that I haven't learnt anything from the tests because its literally fill in the blanks and basically the exact copy from her slides. And the way she explains the math portion ( prevalence and incidence) of the class is terribly executed.
This prof. was very nice and caring. But her final was nothing as we expected , it was ridiculous the stuff on the slides arent on the final but she has random questions about examples. She could have given a heads up to not study the notes but rather the examples. Also the second semester is almost beginning and she doesn't have marks up.Ridiculo
This is an awesome course if your a hsci student, you know your in the right major if you like this course. Rochelle is awesome, she knows what she is doing inside out. The class is 4 credits so it is a bit more of a course load. I wouldn't recommend this class if your going to take it as a b-sci (take a kin course instead).
She's not the greatest prof, quite unorganised actually, and the course load feels like quite a lot but it's still easy to get a good mark. Attend her office hours and she will tell you the material to focus on when studying for midterms and final.
Honestly i loved this class! sure there were 4 assignments but they weren't difficult. I really found this course interesting and she lets you know exactly what will be on the exams. I never used my textbook just memorize her lecture slides and you'll ace the midterms. shes a great prof!
AVOID THIS PROF. I had her for hsci 130, and she was "okay" back then, 3 years later, she become even MORE disorganized. Previous ratings about her not caring for her students, bringing personal issues to work/lec (ie. daughter stuff), GIVING SUPER LATE/NO FEEDBACK on grades..these are all TRUE. I'd never take this with her if it wasnt needed. ugh.
Super disorganized. Takes forever to post grades. Assignments are assigned very close to due date. Lab prep activities (instructions) are not posted until the day before (earliest two days before) they are due. Avoid this course with her!
She is so easy. Lots of easy marks. Just need to sit in class. She is so interesting. She talks really good. Lots of videos to see.
AVOID! the TAs were hard markers. Everything was disorganized. No feedback at all.
AVOID. super late and disorganized. either no feedback or super late. TAs are hard marker as well. AVOID AVOID
I took this course because I thought it would be a good experience learning about things that aren't really talked about ~(about 10 journals each week) She is does not prepare the students to learn, but to stress them out throughout the semester with last min changes. Also, she makes up too many excuses for stuff she can't get done.
Rochelle is extremely disorganized and takes it out on the students. She spends too much time talking about her personal life (cool you have a daughter and your brother graduated recently) and then keeps students after class is over to finish the lecture. The TA theresa burley-hughes is just as unhelpful if not more than dr. ro.
She was not capable of handling the stress and workload of this class at the expense of student's time (last minute changes, very very bad communication in coordinating classes and hand-ins) and hardwork (lost assignments, no feedback). Was abrupt in her attitude towards students, and explicitly told us to go away. Very unprofessional.
If you don't like to think for yourself. If you don't like flexibility. If you don't like to read or write. If you require being babied in a 3rd year university course - then not only should you reconsider taking this class, but you might want to re-evaluate why you are in academia. Dr. Tucker is like none other - a passionate and caring lecturer.
Really the thing that ruined this course were the lab preps. Also, the final exam was basically a matter of remembering content from 30-50 articles that were assigned throughout the whole semester. Final exam average was in the low 60s which reflects its difficulty. The course has potential though of Dr. Ro makes the right adjustments.
Has energy and ideas for the course to be good, such as having an interactive tutorial. However, she had many assignments and they were posted late, lost, or unclear. The large class size also did not help her keep up with class. I would wait to take this course with her until she decides to simplify some things and organize the course better.
If you don't wanna ruin ur GPA; simply AVOID her. Yes, she is eager to teach and all, but at the same time, she is SO unprofessional. She screams at students, send RUDE emails and blames us for everything. SO DRAMATIC !! AVOID her.
first off, 90% of her final was based on the >30 articles she gave us. took hsci 130 with her, took this course to give her another shot. marking took forever, literally 1 month or more to return us anything at all and accused 1/3 of the class of plagiarism. the course was interesting, she was just ridiculous. truly disappointed with this prof.
Well, my experience with dr. Ro was ok back then when I took hsci130. However, it was HORRIBLE w/ hsci 345. Final was based on >30 articles in details. So much work. 2 Presentations + Grp project + Short paper + 6 reflections + final! She always says that we are lazy and lack morals and only care about marks. TAs have no idea about the class. AVOID
ok it's september 1st and I still didn't get final grade yet. this upcoming fall semester is my final semester at SFU AND SHE SAID no email unless this summer course is your final semester. Because of her laziness, having hard time for course selection in fall. OUR PAPER STILL HAVN'T REVIEWED YET because there are so many plagiarism cases. WTH
AVOID!!! At first the course and prof seemed very interesting and likeable but it soon turned out to be the total opposite. The workload for this elective course is ridiculous and we receive angry emails telling us to basically leave her and the TAs alone. If i could, I would turn back time and drop this course even if it meant paying it in full.
She wants u to work hard, she was good for HSCI130 but not higher levels.
UNFAIR. My grp didn't get readings until a few days before we presented. Others got a couple weeks. She tells us a wk later after handing in final grp proposal that we had to go to her office if we wanted feedback. Which left us 2 weeks to do a 15-20 pg lit review, max 5 pg resource and presentation. Then, 1/3 of grps get reported for plagiarism.
There's a reason for her to receive such horrible reviews for her students. I STILL don't have my grade from the summer semester and even if I get a D or F, I'm NOT going to retake the course just because she's teaching it.
I took hsci 130 with rochelle about 4 years ago, I wasnt the greatest fan but then decided to give her another shot for hsci345. 345 turned into a disaster. Ro definitely has potential to do much better. she is passionate and helpful but she shouldnt have acted out on 300 students. I felt she was a bit unfair and took her stress out on the students
Horrible teacher. Not professional at all. Bad organization. She gives hardly any time for assignments. Instructions for assignments are poor.
Rochelle seems to really not care about her students and how they're doing in the class. She's completely unorganized and puts no effort into posting lecture slides or assignments we need. She basically just comes to class, teaches and as soon as she steps food out of the lecture room she's done with her students.
Not an organized prof. Says will post lecture notes and assignment answers up but usually waits til a few days before midterm to post them...
says she will upload grades and assignments but she never does, lectures are useless. theres a midterm tomorrow and she hasnt even uploaded assignment answers so we can study off them and see our mistakes... doesnt really seem to care about our class
The class isn't difficult as long as you are keeping up with the readings. HOWEVER, she is tardy and disorganized (doesn't post up answer keys to assignments, lecture slides etc. until few days before exam) so if you take this course, you will need to go to office hours yourself to clarify anything you need as lectures and canvas are useless.
This teacher is absolutely ridiculous. So disorganized it makes it hard to learn or succeed. Doesn't keep her word EVER. It's disappointing that she is the first insight students receive into health sciences.
She is horrible in 345, NEVER NEVER take this course!!If you are reading this, DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE, No MATTER WHAT! super heavy workload, (4hrs class time, 2 presentation, midterm essay, final project- essay and intervention, final exam, lab exercises, attendance) Unfair grading!
This class is a joke with her. Also readings are so pointless since half the material ain't even on the midterm's. Ain't nobody got time for that.
This is getting absolutely ridiculous. There's three weeks left of semester and the only mark online is the first assignment. We haven't received marks for an assignment or midterm we completed over 3 weeks ago. She doesn't care AT ALL, doesn't even have the decency to explain why its taking so long. She's hands down the worst proff I have ever had
One of the best profs I've had at SFU. One of the reasons I decided to major in HSCI. Work hard and study, you'll get an A. What she says is on the exam is actually on the exam. She is a bit disorganized by pay attention and it wont matter. Very helpful in office hours.
HSCI 130. The assignments and tests have been very easy and a moderate amount of work will give a good mark. The textbook reading are useless, i have not read anything and managed to get an easy A on midterms. Everything on her exams seems to be from lecture notes. Course is boring, however shes very nice and extremely helpful at her office hours
The COURSE is interesting/easy. Tucker is an absolute mess. Its my last year and she's as disorganized as they come. Assignments are given out late, grades aren't posted, exams are wrongly marked, & even TAs seem confused as to what she wants. Great in office hours, but for the vast majority of the class this is a terrible 1st post secondary exp.
Good in lectures but heartless and a complete mess outside the classroom. Sends us rude emails when we ask for help. Very disorganised, even the TAs have no idea what's going on. The content itself is easy though. Avoid her as a prof!
shes useless outside of lecture
Worst Prof I've ever had. Disorganized and confusing.
Rochelle is disorganized and never on time with her marking. However, she is very helpful if you are willing to go see her during office hours. There is too much reading in this course, most of it unnecessary. The midterms were fair if you studied. All you need to do to do well in this class is follow her notes.
worst prof.didnt do anything for us, didnt even come to half the lectures. most useless prof ive ever had at univeristy. doesnt even care to show up to the last lecture, avoid her at all costs. couldnt even hand back our midterms that we did a month before!
She's good at talking as in not reading off the slides but she is very unorganized(post notes/answers keys very late) and assignments take a long time to be handed back due to 'difficulties'
TERRIBLE professor. Course itself is pretty easy, but she misses lectures because "something came up" or "[she] had a headache". Plays movies for a few lectures (which you are tested on) and has pointless assignments/activities. Worst professor I have yet encountered.
This course has way too many readings that are unnecessary, but the exams are fairly easy if you attend lecture, listen to the hints she gives, and review the lecture notes. Textbook readings are somewhat tested, although minimal. She seems engaged in the material, and is nice and friendly if you need help, but she is EXTREMELY DISORGANIZED!!!
Words cannot describe my frustration with this prof. Boring and unorganized. I think I'll learn more hsci from looking at paint dry.
Extremely unorganized professor, took her 2 months to get grades posted. Exams are all memorizations, all kinds of definitions, and too much exam questions. She did not attend lectures for 3 times. And always late for lectures. Lazy lazy professor. always leave early while made us watching videos. She thinks we are students in Harvard like her.
TERRIBLE PROFESSOR EVER
She is extremely disorganized, nothing gets handed back in a timely manner and sometimes you have to pick up assignments on your own time. She is often condescending towards the students. Lecture material is good and interesting but sometimes unclear and the rest of the class is a mess. Tests are somewhat difficult as well.
Extremely disorganized professor. Does not instruct her students with clear instructions until the assignment is nearing the due date. Makes students do unnecessary readings. Nonetheless, her exams are fair. She does have her TA mark everyone though. In general, I did not have a pleasant experience in her course.
Don't let the negative posts scare you away. The information in the course is interesting and not difficult to understand (except for the epi math). True, she is disorganized; however, her disorganization should not really affect your study habits. I think the woman just needs a vacation.
This class is a joke. The assignments felt like a waste of time and the readings were not required and also a waste of time. On top of that her attitude towards students is terrible, she was late, and you had to wait for a long period to get results back. Avoid this prof at all costs.
This professor is really really disorganized. Also, she has a bad attitude towards students. Even I have a better attendance than she do! Don't take her class. Plus, it almost takes a month to get our assignment feedback.
Rochelle tucker is a piece of work. I have my midterm in 48 hours and I still don't have Assignments and grades. FOr some reason this lady can't write emails properly, and gets dates dates mixed ushe is so disorganized, unhelpful, and she treats her students as last priority. I would go out of my way to avoid her.
horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible PROF! AVIOD HER AT ALL COST! AVIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Worst professor to walk Earth. Unbelievably disorganized, doesn't reply to email... Has excuses for her tardiness and absence. Absolutely pathetic and unprofessional. I'm disgusted.
Unbelievably disorganized. Excuses for all her absences and tardiness. ZERO accountability. Pathetic and disgusted by the lack of professionalism. Stick to doing research, teaching is not your thing.
Probably the worst prof at SFU. Never seen someone so unorganized. We handed in our assignment on Oct.19th and still do not have it. SHe then expects us to go out of our way to go pick up our assignments and then when she says she'll be at Blenz from 1pm-3pm she leaves 40 minutes early... AVOID HER AT ALL COST, she is actually the worst prof alive.
Dr. Ro has moments where I feel she is a great prof, and moments where I feel she's the worst prof. However, her class is fairly easy. Assignments were not too difficult, tests were fair (make sure you do the readings!) and lectures are enjoyable. With some organization, Dr. Ro would be a way better prof, and students wouldn't resent her as much.
Do not take this class with Tucker. I repeat do not take this class with Tucker. Save yourself before its to late...
Useless, expects students to purchase books to read, worth 10% of final grade. Has little to no manners, and extremely disorganized, with excuses for her absences. Little to no feedback on assignments that take forever to get returned. Would not recommend.
A fairly good lecturer but a nightmare outside the lecture hall. Assignments were never handed back on time... we had a midterm based off one assignment which the answers were not posted up until the day before. I've taken 300 level course with less reading required. I would stay away from her unless absolutely necessary.
She's a passionate prof, I'll give her that. But she is so disorganized! The exam was to long, assignments handed back late, and she's just plain rude. I learnt more from my TA than I did from her. Exam MC had useless questions, and didn't even give a proper guideline for what to study! It became tremendously overwhelming while studying.
Pretty much useless.
Really, really bad. Comically bad. The sort of bad you wonder, at the end of the semester, if this was just a long joke and that you're on camera.
She's an appalling proff. She's blatantly rude. She's late handing back EVERYTHING. She missed multiple classes. Her final exam multiple choice was ridiculous, a compilation of questions we had no way of knowing. As a shock to nobody no final grades posted. Her students deserve an apology.
One of the worst professors I've ever had. We got a "GN" grade.. meaning no grade reported.. Makes excuses for everything, absent from lecture a few times, and rude. Final exam multiple choice were mostly unrelated. Close to 100 MC/true/false, written section and an essay in 3 hours......... Zero respect for students. Appalling
She's passionate about what she teaches but she is a disorganized, defensive, inconsistant prof. She seemed so strict at the beginning of the semester but by the end you know she didn't have her stuff together. I feel she also makes lots of excuses! Plus the final was ridiculous. DEFS will try not to take a class with her again if I can.
To be honest she is disorganized and hands stuff back extremely late but that never impeded or disrupted my own learning and study habits. As long as you attend lecture, take notes so you don't have to solely rely on her to post up the lecture slides, and keep up with the readings, you should be fine. I ended up with an A-.
She is passionate about what she is teaching but she is so disorganized and inconsistent with her lectures. She hands back assignments really late and is holds students back from doing well in her class by her unprofessionalism. It was hard to believe that almost every lecture she was late. I would never take a class with her again.
She was very disorganized, and did not post up anything on time. However, the exams are pretty easy and it is an easy course even with a bad professor. I would recommend taking this class even with a bad prof because you will be fine anyways as long as read the lecture slides and some of the textbook.
horrible prof
AVOID THIS PROF AT ALL COSTS!!!! (read comments below, all pretty much explains it)
Final exam was awful. Over 90 MC,more than 10 written (paragraph&drawing required)& a freaking novel study essay on top. Want to know an exam question? MEMORIZE THE AUTHORS OF YOUR ARTICLES. That`s how ridiculous her exam was. Emphasis on the most trivial things¬ enough time to finish exam. She`s super disorganised, rude, tardy & full of excuses.
Avoid this prof at all costs!! she may have her PhD but she is super disorganized and very unclear and unhelpful. We have a ten page paper due with zero instructions on what to do. Ontop of that, we aren't allowed to start our actual paper until we get our proposal back and get approval to continue writing on our topic. SHE NEVER HANDS IT BACK.. :@
Horrible.
she is not a good prof but a nice talker
Super disorganized. Make sure you do the readings.
Dr Tucker is a fantastic prof who takes a genuine interest in her students to the point where she gets to know them by name. In Hsci345 I found her to be caring almost to a fault, for the final exam we were GIVEN A CHOICE on format, questions, despite it requiring way more work for her in the long run. Overall, an amazing prof!
Dr. Ro is one of the most caring and understanding profs you'll meet at SFU. It's unfortunate that people are tough on her, but it's not her fault she has high expectation from students. See her in person & she'll definitely try to help you out. Make the effort and you can be sure she'll back you up on it! :)
I think she could have been a great prof if she wasn't going through a lawsuit for trying to fail over half of a 300 level class for "plagiarism." Unfortunately she took out her stress on us; very rude always late and blamed everything on the students. Can't take responsibility and ruined Health Sciences for a lot of students. Final = ridiculous.
Dr. Ro did a wonderful job revising and implementing this course. The weekly quizzes were a lot of work, but the subject material was interesting Dr. Ro taught very interesting and thought provoking material. She is very caring about her students, and wants the best for them. Great class, great Prof. If you are engaged you will do very well. :)
Clearly cares about her students. Goes above and beyond to make sure you understand the material and requirements. Final assignment is large but it's well laid out, due in stages and a great way to learn how to write a university level paper. Attend lectures, pay attention and you will do well.
Terrible prof. Missed lectures and never gave our final marks back. Will never take a class with her again
Overall I really enjoyed Dr. Ro's lecturing style. She is clear, interesting and engaging. It is a 4 credit course so a lot more work is required but it does pay off in the end! Go to the TA for help. I had Erik and he was fantastic. My only complaint is that she takes awhile to reply to emails and returns assignments pretty late. READ TEXTBOOK.
It wasn't a bad class if you did your readings.
Horrible Prof, took her almost two months to hand back a 2 page assignment. Did not respond to emails and even her TAs were fed up with her! STAY AWAY
No show Ro is what I liked to call her. Otherwise pretty easy!
SUPER DISORGANIZED. Hardly uploads lecture slides like she promises to. Also, takes forever to mark and hand back assignments and papers. I want to see my work before I go into the final and I didn't get the chance to. Lack of communication between her and TAs. Very UNCLEAR in her online announcements and causing much unnecessary confusion.
Not clear on grading criteria & bad assignments
Dr. Rochelle is honestly a great person to talk to and she's clearly really passionate about the subject. The only reason why I won't take this course again is because the content is really boring especially if you're interests are more towards science matter. And also, the lecture slides are very vague and hard to learn.
Lectures are useless. Things can only be learnt from readings. While TSSU strike is over, the prof still holds the grade. She claims that majority are found plagiarized and thus she has to deal with that first. To me, that is an example of unreasonable time management. Avoid her!
Enjoys surprising students with essays on midterms the night before. Blabs on a lot in lectures.
I only rated the way I did because I took this as an elective and I regretted it. There is a LOT of work to be done. Lots of writing so such small percentages. Very stressful. If you take it, make sure you keep on top of your readings as there is a lot to read for this class. There is a pdf for the other book needed for an assignment.
Her exams are completely unrelated to the actual lectures. Its all textbook based work and her group assignments are brutal.
She speaks very fast during lecture, which is really annoying as she would often finish lecture very early. Uses a lot of info from assigned readings for the final. The course material is easy to understand if you keep up with readings, pay attention in class, and study. Some students are overly critical of her bc they are not used to studying hard
Prepare yourself for tons of reading! The textbook is extremely boring and dry and the chapters are not short at all! Rochelle sweeps by each lecture slide very quickly so I highly recommend using a laptop. For assignment 4, you can choose to do a group project or put 10% on your final. Do the project!! Final tons of impossible MC questions
Lots of tiny details were asked for in the MC of the final exam, which sucked. At the beginning of the semester, I personally asked Dr. Tucker if the textbook readings would be required to do well in the class and she told me that I would do fine if I focused on the lecture slides (which makes sense, since they are SO LONG). THIS WAS NOT TRUE.
Not as bad as some people say she is. Exams aren't very difficult. Never did any reading and studied 2 nights before for midterms (and even the night before for one) and did well. I was 1% off from a B+ so after emailing her she bumped me up. Great prof to have.
The material is easy but she makes it hard by assigning tons of articles to read. Her finals was brutal, around 25-30 pages and asks you about that very small detail in the lecture. Totally ridiculous. However, we were given option to transfer 10% of our final grade to a group project which is nice. She gives extra marks as well. Attend tutorials.
Lectures are always interesting. Read the textbook & articles thoroughly, final MC has tiny details. Go to office hours for assignment 2 and compare answers w/ other students. Group project will save you 10%. If you don't understand your midterm mark, ask her b/c she can correct the TAs' marking and give you points. Kinda hard, but fair.
Do NOT take this class with her! I cant speak for other classes, but she runied this course. I know many people dropping out of hsci cuz they think its too hard if the foundation is like this. she add an essay part into a midterm without telling anyone, and claimed that she announced it (even the TA did not agree). speaks rushly and late sometimes
She was a good prof that definitely cared about what she was teaching but one project was really ambiguous making it extremely time consuming. Her marking for the project did not line up with the instructions. The other projects weren't as bad- make sure to do the engagement project and pay attention in lectures.
My fav first year prof! Very kind, engaging and generally cares about her students. There is A LOT of readings which are repetitive, but the lectures are interesting! Most engaging class i have taken! Loved it. 10/10 would take a class with her again. she doesnt reply to emails though.
Dr. Ro is a great prof and is very caring to her students, I am not sure why she has so many bad reviews... She is definitely one of the better profs I have had at SFU. She is very helpful during office hours and wants her students to succeed. Compared to my chem and mbb courses this was a piece of cake ;)
Exams are extremely difficult, pay attention to small details in readings that you don't think are important. Good speaker in class. Lots of group work and group discussions. Content of course would have been interesting but Rochelle makes it very difficult to know what is important and what is not.
Rochelle definitely knows what she's talking about, but her exams are ridiculous to say the least. She includes trivial details that will drive anyone nuts. Would not take another class with her. I truly wanted to enjoy 130, but Dr. Ro's exams made that nearly impossible.
I find her lectures to be extremely long winded and not necessarily relevant to the course. She likes to included many unimportant details in lecture and then test you on those points. Overall she is a boring prof and does not test fairly. Avoid if you can.
Lectures are very informative and engaging, with lots of discussion. The course has a lot of reading but it's not really necessary to succeed. Dr. Tucker cares about her students and wants them to do well. She drops A TON of hints of exam questions, and even includes bonus questions on midterms and final! I'd 100% recommend her, amazing prof!!!!
Dr. Ro is an awesome professor that is truly engaged in teaching what she knows. The lectures can be long but that doesn't take away from the spirit that she has for the class. There is a lot of reading however which is probably the most difficult thing about the class. If you get behind in your readings, be prepared to catch up!
Tests are straightforward, but requires very detailed knowledge on statistics. Dr. Ro is very jolly and always has a smile for you.
Rochelle was an amazing prof! I took HSCI130 with her at the Surrey campus and i loved it. She made the lectures interesting, and above all, she would tell us which questions she would put on the exams and midterms! Midterms/exams were fair and relatively easy. Would highly recommend this course!
TONS of textbook and article readings. Not worth fretting over though in my opinion cause you'd only gain at most a handful of marks on the exams for HOURS of reading. Rochelle isn't the worst, very generous in the sense that she tells you a good amount of the questions to expect on her tests. Can safely say that what you put in is what you get.
SOOO many readings.. Exams often test for little details but Rochelle lets the class know ahead of time what to focus on. I thought the exams were fair. Lecture notes are not given before classes and often gets posted very late (like 1 or 2 days after the lecture). Overall, a very solid class/prof.
Loved Dr. Ro!! She clearly has passion for what she's teaching and it comes out in her lectures, making them engaging and interesting. She also gives many hints about what will be on the exams. Try not to get behind on your readings, there are questions about the textbook/articles on the midterms and finals. Overall, my favourite course and prof :)
while there were a ton of readings, I found that it was sufficient to skim the readings and focus on the lecture slides instead. Her lectures were really interesting and I like that she learned my name. Definitely attend lectures because she tells you exact test questions. Old midterms will be VERY helpful as well. She really knows her stuff
mixed feelings about this class... i didn't hate it because the material was hard, it's just that there's so many details. be prepared to read read read. i had 2 days to study for the hsci final and at the end of it i still didn't cover everything she assigned over the course. DONT EVER SKIP CLASS. You have to sit through the 3 hours.
Dr. Ro is a really excellent prof. She gives hints of whats on the exam and she is very clear with what she expects you to know, there are no surprises with this prof. Check the syllabus, do your readings, and attend all tutorials and lectures, pay attention and I can guarantee you will get an A. Don't take this this course if you want to slack.
Dr Ro was a great prof for this course! she was enthusiastic and knew what she was talking about. She expects a lot out of her students with regards to doing the pre readings and knowing what to expect on the exams, which were fair but very specific. The textbook is what makes this course bad, it is dry and doesn't really get its point across.
Although I didn't do as well as I would have liked in this course, Dr. Tucker did a great job of explaining the material and was always available for help. Contrary to some of the negative comments, she is actually a very nice and friendly professor and I hope to take another course with her soon.
I highly recommend hand-writing notes in a timeline fashion. It would save your life and save your time before exams. Textbook is optional for supplementary purpose. Pay attention on lecture slides and tutorials. Use recording if she talks too fast. Please do group project. She likes creativity and being passionate. Then you will get A.
you won't learn anything in her class, waste of money for her to spout her politics not teach her subject
Currently taking this class with Dr. T, who is good at her stuff, she brings bagel/donuts/grapes to class because its a morning class, lots of room for interaction between students. Says the final is an oral exam. Submitted one assignment since wk2, yet to get feedback (wk6). On average you read 4 articles before her lecture
Actually a caring prof and passionate about what she is teaching. Get to know her in office hours. Go to office hours and ask questions you have. overall one of the best profs I have had!
Really knowledgeable professor that values student interaction and feedback. Discuss and engage lots to get a good mark.
Passionate about course material and an engaging lecturer. Very innovative in teaching style and creates assignments with a lot of originality. Lots of work, and condensed lectures. Stay focused in lectures as she changes slides quickly. Adds bonus questions to tests and a bonus project of outside-of-class engagement (easy marks). Overall solid
Rochelle was fun, especially looking back when I took her as a first year student and comparing her to some of the other profs I have now. She has a very particular emphasis on making sure her students are really learning so she incorporates methods like movies and classroom games-- so it could be a real hit-or-miss for most.
Rochelle goes above and beyond for her students when they need help. I found this course challenging yet rewarding. Lots of readings, lectures were okay, assignments were reasonable. Second midterm (theres math) and final are tough. To do well I recommend acing all the assignments and trying your best in the midterms/finals. DO THE GROUP PROJECT!
Most reading I've ever done for a single course. Make sure you read every article on Canvas, because it will likely be on the final. That being said, Rochelle is a great lecturer who is clearly passionate about public health, and who grades fairly (no curve).
Rochelle was an amazing prof! Passionate and approachable outside of class; evident that really wants you to succeed. Emphasis on attending class - her slides are NOT thorough enough alone, so your own notes are crucial. Exams are tough, math, articles, and readings are definitely on there! My assignment average was 95% but my exam average 67% LOL
One of the best profs I have had. Extremely helpful outside of class especially in office hours(online and in person). Pay attention in class, take notes from the slides and if you ask questions when you dont understand something then you will do fine in the class. Class was not definitely not easy but if you put in effort then you will get a mark
She was an amazing prof who really cared about how well her students did in the class. If you are taking a class with her, I highly recommend checking out her office hours as she is super helpful.
Dr Ro is the best prof Ive had so far at Sfu. Shes so kind and cares about her students. she drops so many hints about exam questions and makes sure you know what to expect on the exams. But you still have to work for your grade and the textbook readings can be a bit overwhelming, so make sure youre on top of your readings. 100% would recommend
This prof gave lots of opportunity for questions in lecture and through online google doc talks. Unfortunately despite these efforts I had a hard time connecting to course material, lectures were mandatory and we used TopHat, an app to check how often you came to class. I found that she was often unkind, her way or the highway kind of character.
Dr. Ro can seem a bit intimidating but once you stop by her office hours she is one of the best profs in the HSCI faculty. She drops MAJOR hints on what will be on the midterms and final, as well as being super accessible with her pre-exam online chats! Make sure to stay on top of your readings and ask questions! Definitely recommend!!
Took HSCI130 as an elective - did not enjoy at all. The course material was interesting enough, but Dr. Tucker was not a great professor. Very "my way or the highway", which spilt over to the tests. Tests were hard - very specific and crammed in too much material. Not enjoyable, and a ton of reading. Also very tough with attendance.
Very well thought out lectures. Very helpful outside the class especially in office hours , gives one on one advice. Must read the textbook if you want to do well.
Dr. Ro is very passionate about what she teaches and cares about her students. Her lectures are extremely organized and she's always looking to improve so that students can learn better in her classes. She will drop major hints on what to expect on the midterm/exams but be prepared to study and read the textbook.
Course was dull, with a ton of reading (30 pages-ish a week) but my issue was with the tests. It's an introductory course, but Dr. Ro tested on very specific things from the textbook or from, say, one slide in a lecture. So you might have understood the concept, but it didn't matter. She also took attendance in class, but was late multiple times!
Horrible professor. Her laugh and tone of voice is obnoxious, and she uses vulgar language.
Dr. RO is AMAZING! She is such a good prof and is very helpful. She gives great advice on how to do well in class and actually wants her class to do well. Be sure to attend lectures, since they are very educational and try to get through textbook readings and pay attention to review sessions.
One of my favourite profs, shes super engaging and makes the content enjoyable to learn
Dr. Ro genuinely cares about her students. She teaches you how to study smart. She tells you absolutely EVERYTHING you need for exams and her assignments in lecture, it's up to you take notes. I feel like people who didn't do well most likely just decided to study only off her slides. Listen to what she actually emphasizes and repeats in lecture.
(for 307) In my opinion Dr. Tucker seemed "nice" but when I spoke to her privately she was a bit rude. I did not like her teaching style she gave us 5 quizes one every two weeks, 3 long tutorial assignments and 2 heavy papers. These conflicted with several other class test times! Her quizes were not the easiest and her lectures are terrible!
In terms of Dr. Tucker she is a nice enough prof. I personally felt like she picked favourites which made participating in class less enjoyable. Her lectures are 3 hours of pointless she just rambles and covers easy stuff and skips harder material. Her lectures are somewhat clear but I taught myself a lot. WAY TO MANY assignments and papers!!!!!!!!
A good prof, but has a lot of expectations. Exams are a bit rough but only if you don't study accordingly. Be prepared for lots and lots of readings (textbook is hella dry) because they will show up on exams. Other then that, she's a nice prof once you get to know her, study hard, do the assignments properly, don't slack and you'll be fine.
HATED this class lol. Took it as my B-Sci and wouldn't recommend. The exams were soo hard and there were A LOT of tutorial assignments and readings. Literally so many readings and documentaries that you have to watch. Super hard to keep up with especially if you have other content-heavy courses. There is also TopHat participation every lecture...
She's very motherly. Her exams are quite difficult if you aren't caught up with readings or if you don't show up to lecture. She is very specific with what she wants for your exam answers (must be detailed answers). Always keep up with readings, show up to lecture (participations questions), go to tutorial! Ask questions! Do assignments!
Y'all this class had me dyiNG like the workload is crazy and you have to read some dried up textbook + other articles. I mean I'm getting a good mark and all but there's just so much happening that it hits you like a bus and you just wanna lay in a corner and cry. If you're taking this as an elective ha ha run for the hills don't do it!!
Awful prof! A lot of course materials and readings. Exams are difficult.
Dr. Ro is nice and tries to do her best to convey the course material. The course itself however is all over the place in terms of content, and as it being the first time she was teaching it, the class and TA's were left wondering what's going on frequently. I know she had personal problems this sem but it led to a lot of disorganized mess for us.
An amazing professor who genuinely cares about her students education and their well being.
Genuinely nice lady who cares that her students do well. Encourages a lot of in class participation and tests on things she may have not went over in class but were in assigned readings. If you show up to class and pay attention you could pass with a decent grade but you really gotta go over the readings and understand material to get an A
She's a very nice prof, her lectures are super engaging and enjoyable. The class assignments are easy and fun, and the individual paper is fair. However, she seems to be a little bit disorganized with the content she is presenting and never responds to any of her emails, making it very difficult to get a hold of her.
For an elective course, the workload is a bit much. This semester (Spring 2020) the grading outline changed due to the virus and our group project + final exam got switched to a take home assignment (3 long answers/paper format). The paper is marked by her and is graded harshly. Very slow at marking and unorganized, do not recommend this class
She Doesnt reply to ANY emails. We submitted a paper in February worth 20% of our grade and not only is it mid- April and we STILL havent received any update on our marks for it, the average for the paper was stated to be a C, and no individual feedback was given to students. Worst prof IMO.
Takes too long to mark important assignments. Doesnt reply to emails. Disorganized in lecture. Mini-assignments marked by TAs are easy, while the term paper worth 20% of our grade is marked tough by her (C average).
AVOID! does not reply back to emails, marks super hard on term papers with zero feedback. Takes so long marking everything, this class is supposed to be an elective and easy but she's making her marking scheme is as if she's grading a phD professors work.
took HSCI345 as a UD elective class as the content is familiar for me (HSCI major) and this class is awful. harshest grading i've ever received (& i'm a 4th year!). content is easy but this lady is straight up insane with grading. she takes forever to grade stuff and doesn't even bother giving feedback for it. if you want an easy UD, avoid it
Worst prof I have ever taken in my entire academic career. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Doesn't care about her students at all. Takes 3 months to mark a single paper and doesn't even follow her own assigned criteria. Everyone did amazing at all of the tutorial assignments, but with the research paper marked by her we all TANKED. SHE SUCKS!
Dr. Tucker (or Dr. Ro ) is a wonderful prof. She is inspiring, easy to understand, and engages her students very well. She was such a good prof for my first semester. An absolute angel and gives so much help if you ask for it. It's not an easy class and there are SO many readings but overall I would highly recommend!
She was the worst prof that I 've had in SFU. I got very good marks on papers which were graded by TAs. However, she marked my term paper very harshly and the average for the term papers which were graded by her was very low. She also changed the date of a final exam which messed up my schedule. She made an elective course so hard.
Eh. Definitely not what I was expecting. Many of her views on public health issues are outdated. Genuinely cares about connecting with students, but may sometimes cross boundaries as a result. Many tedious assignments that didn't aid learning. Grading was easy though.
AMAZING PROFESSOR! Took the time to learn the names of the 150+ people in the lecture hall. Very clear expectations, super helpful and caring. Hands down my favorite prof this semester. Very interesting content. The only thing was that there was a fair amount of group work, but that's a personal preference thing. Overall would HIGHLY recommend!
really passionate and engaging in lectures, and she gives you a decent amount of questions that will be on the midterm and bonus questions. she's always opening to engaging with students too. only downside is there's a lot of required reading of articles, textbook chapters (and there will be questions on the test on the readings) + documentaries
A really understanding prof. The content wasn't dry, but there's a lot of group work and mandatory texts/films. Much of the final was about the films, readings, and textbook. I survived without reading the textbook, but recommend others do read it as it would have helped me a lot. She made it clear whats on the exams by going over key topics.
Dr. Tucker is the best prof. I took this course in my first semester of first year. She keeps everyone engaged in her lectures, make sure you guys see her recorded version if cannot attend the lecture. Do focus on readings for finals and movies for mid term 2. The first mid term was very easy for me compared to the other one.
Solid prof and good course if you keep up with all of the readings. Emphasis on specific details on exams from films, textbooks, and tut readings. Prof was engaging and had review sessions where she covered what would be on the exam. Pay attention to hints in class because they are exam questions! Recommended if you're interested in epidemiology.
Prof. Ro was amazing. I took HSCI130 with her for my first year and her lectures are good, she genuinely cares about the student's wellbeing, and tries to make the material as engaging as possible. Group project and some readings, but Prof Ro emphasized what was important for exams. She's great, I would take again.
So much work for an elective course, definitely was not expecting it. Ironic how she teaches a class on the health of teens/young adults and says she doesn't want to stress her students out but then makes a final exam with 45 short answer questions, 30 mc/tf, AND an essay, all hand-written, to be done in 3 hours. My advice: avoid the course.
She is a very caring person. Unfortunately, she was dealing with health problems throughout the semester and didn't hand back our work on time. Way too much effort for an elective course. Mandatory attendance basically. Tests were unfair, most questions came from random articles, had to remember the names of the writers, ridiculous. So much reading
Two things drove me crazy - the constant randomized group work, and the amount of material to digest. The final had questions from lecture, the textbook, videos, group presentations and articles! Dr. Ro (as she insists being called) is also quite disorganized (late, cancel classes, doesn't reply to Canvas questions) but requires perfect attendance.
Dr Ro, you need to do better. This class was unreasonable. The final should not have been formatted the way it was, the workload is tedious considering that I have not learned anything from this course. Stay away from this class and her
This was one of my favourite, most engaging classes at SFU. Dr. Ro is an expert at facilitating discussion and encouraging participation from everyone in class. Since it was a small class (~25 students), it was easy to ask questions and get helped when needed. Dr. Ro is also very accommodating and understanding with students. Thank you Dr. Ro!
Dr. Ro is a nice teacher but she is all over the place. She doesn't mark the assignments, doesn't respond to emails, the tests are mainly based on articles, and it is mandatory to go to class because of group work and assignments. Her exams were okay but it is a lot of memorization and a lot of work considering it is an elective class.
This class was an unfortunate mess and too much work. There was no clear syllabus on what would be assigned and when it would be due regarding discussion posts. Group work every week. Prof struggled hard with marking, made empty promises on multiple occasions, and refused to delegate to TAs. Final was ridiculous for an elective course.
Dr. Ro made my first semester the best. No surprises on midterm or final, if you paid attention in class and read the textbook, you're good. Go to the extra help sessions before exams, they were super helpful and showed how much Dr. Ro cared about her students by putting aside time to help us outside of her office hours and Tucker Talks.
Rochelle has been amazing I was skeptical of taking this class with her because of the mixed reviews but if you keep up with lectures you will do just fine! theres also 3-4 assignments that can easily help boost your grade and she holds zoom meetings before exams to go over any questions
Very inspirational. I just took HSCI 130 this summer, and it was really fun. Marking is really fair, and lots of free marks. Tutorial is 10%, midterm 20%, final 25%, rest is assignments. Class is an easy pass, however beware she does not scale or curve the course. Doing good is very easy tho!! u got this
Dr. Tucker was an amazing prof. She is very caring and is always willing to help. She had review sessions for midterms and for the final exam and everything she mentioned came on the exam however the material was too heavy and hard to prepare. Overall this course was amazing but just be prepared to read a lot and your memorization should be good.
She explains everything really well and forces you to make personal connections with everything to help in better learning.
Want a course with a bunch of group projects, long explanations of simple concepts, and both two lectures and a tutorial? The TA's were the only thing that saved this course. She is super inconsistent, one minute being understanding the next testing on content never learned. I wouldn't take her class unless you need it.
Very caring prof, very kind as well. Lecture slides are nice and clear. Class has 2 midterms and 1 final. Along with multiple assignments. I would recommend this prof. Just note that her final exam was a bit brutal as there was a lot to cover so don't CRAM. Following that her assignments can be time consuming so make sure you start earlier.
HSCI130 w/ Dr Ro was great. Things to note: 1-There is A LOT of group work, which is frustrating if your group members are lazy. 2- this is a 4 credit course, meaning increased course load. 3- she is very accessible outside of class & willing to help(tucker talks). 4- study the lecture slides AND the textbook for exams.
The assignments were a bit confusing sometimes. She was easily accessible outside of class and answered emails. She basically tells you what you need to know for the midterms and finals so go to the review sessions. Didn't touch the textbook once but I watched lectures & did my assignments. Also offered extensions if given 24 hours advance notice
Way too many films, it feels like I am fluent in healthcare circa 2000, not 2024. Extemely particular, gives little instructions on what she wants. Extremely long tests. Uses inappropriate/offensive/outdated language in the course, now the class uses it too. Swears/yells at IT in front of the class. Unprofessional, unpleasant, and needs to retire.
Easily my favorite prof this year. Very engaging lectures and fun projects. Cares a lot about students success (go to Tucker talks..she literally tells you what's on the exams). Fair exams, but assignments can get tricky if you decide to procrastinate.
Their are quite a bit of films you have to watch but getting an good grade is pre easy, assignments are ez asf and theirs 4 of them which are worth 40 percent total and that could boost your mark a lot. She cares for her students to do good clearly and legit gives you so many of the exact questions that are gon be on the mid terms and finals.
Very caring prof. The course content itself was not hard but there was a lot of it. Office hours helps a lot if you go. Overall was a pretty good course.
She was easily accessible outside of class and answered emails. She basically tells you what you need to know for the midterms and finals so go to the review sessions.
this is a 4 credit course so expect a lot of work, but rather than it being meaningful it seems unnecessary and tedious. Tutorials and reading material that are not covered in lecture are examinable, old documentaries are examinable. Overall weird course that could be taught better. Seems like Ro has stuck to the same formula for 15+ years...
Why am I watching movies in class as a university student? She has yelled multiple times at my collegues and overall has extremely dry lectures. I do not know how she managed to gain a teaching position when clearly she does not have the skill set for it. Maybe grade school would be better suited to her teaching style.
She is AMAZING I didn't read the textbook once and got an A. She also really cares about her students and tells you the EXACT SA questions on the exams and gives you bonus questions! she does review sessions for the exams. Also everything is weighted so little that it's easy to get a better mark as the course goes on (I started with a 60) recommend
It's perfect.
Dr. Ro is amazing! Her review sessions are very helpful. She would share the exact same questions that will be on the exams, so make sure you attend them! The TAs marked fairly. Overall, this course was great, but be prepared for a lot of memorization.
The class had a good amount of work, but the prof was very helpful and accessible. Unstuckstudy AI was a lifesaver for test prep. Overall, a solid course if you stay on top of it.
Take this class if you want to "hate on men" That is the whole final unit. The entire tophat questions were "what is gender in health?" All the answers were "men are toxic, insecure, unaware, aggressive etc. While women are pure, gentle, and elegant." Dr. Ro is nice and all but come on, why must you make a course like this
had her in summer 2024. She's excellent. If you participate in lecture and tutorials, the course is easy. You just have to put the effort into studying concepts and practice memorization, she is so generous with giving out exam questions and how to answer them. This is how a first year course should be in my opinion, straight forward and engaging.
Rochelle is a caring prof and values ur questions, and understanding of the material however, I found that the way the course was laid out was a bit odd and my TA made things a lot harder than they should have (run away from francis Baah). tests are tough but the assignments make up for it.
Loved her class! She is super understanding and the lectures are clear and interesting. There are many sources of information that are testable (textbooks, lectures, articles, documentaries), but she sums it all really well in her Tucker Talks session which I highly recommend attending!
Doctor Tucker really knows her stuff. She struggles to make clear what homework and textbook needs to be read. The test material is SUPER extensive—it covers every minor detail mentioned in lecture, tutorial, required readings, and assignments. However it is not very in-depth or application-based. Assignments boost grade!!.
such an amazing prof! encourages questions and is always able to help. lectures could get boring at times but that's just because the content could get dull. tutorials were useful and she gives you all the short answer questions on exams ahead of time. overall great class!
I worried about the bad reviews but those were from a sem she was having health issues. She is an amazing prof and so understanding. Tells what's on the exams and gives extensions under any circumstance. Also review complaining about gender drop out of HSCI, gender disparity is covered in health and your masculinity must be fragile af or smth lol
-hard to fail if you try -very supportive and will host Zoom sessions for quizzes, midterms..etc, which have most of the things on the test. -slides are very informative and summarize readings and content well
Dr. Tucker is a very understanding and kind person, but HSCI 130 covers TONSSSS of content (emphasis on TONS). She is easy to reach in her office hours and creates pre-exam Q&A meetings (Tucker Talks). I highly recommend using Quizlet to study for this course. It helped me a lot in breaking content down.
Tells you about the written portion of test questions beforehand. MCQs in tests are from textbook readings. Hard to access outside of lectures - rarely reads emails. A lot of assignments are thrown at you after midterm 2, so it's important to start doing them beforehand. Better to connect with TAs as they do the marking for assignments, especially.
Great prof but doesn't read any emails or bump up peoples grades
She has a passion for her work. Her TAs are harsh graders but her exams are pretty straight forward if you study the lectures and READ the textbook given. EMPHASIS ON READ AND WATCH. Most of her questions come from movies you watch throughout the course and from textbook chapters. Overall, she's good at teaching and very funny lol
she is such a sweet prof and actually wants her students to do well. she holds q&a's before every test and tells you exactly what she is looking for. if you keep up with lectures you will do well in class
Dr. Ro is a very caring professor. She did an amazing job teaching research methods. She commented that she changed the structure of the course, and it turned out to be excellent. There was a lot of engagement in the class, and it was interactive. She is very caring and accessible!
Dr. Ro is a great lecturer who tries her best to help students succeed (provides exam guidance/hints, lots of opportunities for incomplete/complete assignments). However, she is extremely disorganized and often unclear. A lot of instructions/exam hints were given VERBALLY in class and rarely in writing, making it unsettling/confusing at times
Dr. Ro offers a Zoom review session where she explains all the short-answer questions on the midterm. All you have to do is memorize it and then get lucky on the multiple-choice question. I was able to get an A- by studying only the night before on all three midterms and the final.
She's kind. Course was trying to do too much - there was a question about a YouTube clip we watched in tutorial. Not sure if that shows learning the subject or just good memory. The TAs mostly seemed overwhelmed and they do all the marking (harshly). Just an odd experience and not really looking forward to her in the future.
Saw those posters… Free Palestine
no one teaches this class better than Dr Ro. she chose such an interesting topic for this class and the discussions and class activities were very engaging. overall such a fun class especially during the facilitated discussion weeks. doing this as an intersession was quite intense tho so prepare to read a lot and participate a lot in class.
She was a great in the lectures, clearly knows her stuff. She is kind in her office hours and you can tell she truly cares.
Dr. Ro is very passionate and obviously cares about what she's teaching. lectures can go buy really quickly tho and it's hard to keep up a lot of the time. but she has q&a's before each exam and is very friendly and approachable. i look forward to taking more classes with her in the future.
Her lectures are boring. She was biased towards certain students. Her quizzes are okay. She does a Zoom on the Sunday before our quizzes and explains what's going to be on the quiz and what we need to know. In my opinion, search her online before you take her class... #FreePalestine
Love Dr. Tucker. She's fantastic. Had her as a prof twice now. HSCI 207 has an optional final. Slay
Amazing teacher, super approachable for any doubts. Her Tucker talks are very helpful, especially the ones she talks about med school and volunteer opportunities. I enjoyed her lecs, will definitely take another course with her
Dr. Ro is definitely one of my favourite professors; super kind, and caring! Lectures are VERY material heavy, however if you put in the efforts to attend lectures and tutorials, you'll breeze through. Additionally, she is super supportive by offering Q&As, which provides information for what is on tests. She is undoubtedly an amazing professor.
The course load and amount of assignments was a lot for a 200 level course. Lectures are quite heavy, tests are super fair, but assignments were a drag to do, considering how little they were weighted for the amount of work they were. All-in-all very informative class with a very kind professor, unfortunately the material was just not it.
As a first year student, Dr. Ro wasn't bad honestly. Lectures contain not a lot of info; majority of it is graphs and charts which you do need to know for the midterms and final but everything comes from the slides. She also puts stuff from the textbook so make sure u open that up cuz I didn't.
Amazing class
Dr. Ro is amazing! If you go to lectures and midterm/final review sessions you are guaranteed to succeed. Dr. Ro genuinely cares about her students and the content was also quite interesting. Would definitely take again.
