She is impossible, strict about homework. difficult to understand and doesn't properly prepare you for tests. She is too concerned with her personal life.
No Calculators allowed in class?. What kind of Math teacher doesn?t allow calculators to be uses in a math class? She must not realize that in the real business world, calculators are not prohibited. She runs thru problems much too fast and doesn?t explain what she is doing as she is going along. I do not recommend this teacher for this class
Highly not recommended unless you can breeze through a math class without using a calculator. What kind of math teacher doesn't allow calculators in a math class? Apparently, she doesn't.
the only reason to take this class would be that the teacher is hot. but...got get deceived by this. she doesnt allow calculators or a cheat sheet in exam. i think its very dumb. u gotta memorize all the formula and calculations in ur head....tsk tsk...not me
I would not ever recommend this Prof! No calculators, no notes, no book and expects you to remember soooooo much for exams! Exams are tricky and do not ever go with her study guides to help prepare you!!!! DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED!!! She's smart, but thinks the whole world is as smart as her.
I wonder what kinds of grades all this people got in her class. I actually thought it was better to see the math without having to rely on your calculator for everything. I thought she explain things very well and is a good professor. By far the best I've had, but I guess I did get an A, which says a lot being that I've gotten Cs before.
She was a fun teacher, too bad she left. Class was easy if you listened to the lecture. She did go over everything you needed to know.
One of the best teachers offered where I come from. Her being hot just makes you want to listen even more!!
She is an excellent teacher. Probably one of the best in my life. I love her. Sure she makes mistakes (a few each day) but she eventually gets back to them and explains the whole problem again. I love her. Plus she it hot. I am talking hotttttttt. You really can't complain. She is excellent. I always go to her after class and ask her questions and
I love her! She is very clear in everything she teaches. I'm personally bad at math, but she re-tought me everything I needed to know. Just attend class and take notes. Notes are the most important thing. And, my math lab is needed
First of, I never liked math because I was never good at it. This was one of the most easiest classes I have ever taken. She explains everything clearly, yes she makes few mistakes daily and is a bit disorganized but that didn't keep me from getting a A in the class! Recommend!
She is super duper nice, but makes way to many mistakes and treats calc 2 students as if they dont know basic algebra, nice but have to learn by yourself. if you do all the hw and are strong in math you will do good.
She is a nice teacher at first but if you get on her nerves, for no reason, she will show it. She has no idea how to teach, relies on students for answers on examples and makes too many mistakes. You have to learn all the material on your own. But because this math is so easy, the class is easy.
She's extremely nice and jokes a lot. She explains the formulas and conversions, I found to be very helpful and allows note cards during exams. Although, her organization was poor with homework. But overall, favorite teacher, makes class fun!
Owens has got the heart for teaching. She is really helpful, and teaches pretty straightforward. Tests are what you would expect, they're not super hard, but not an easy A. If you're struggling in the class because math just doesn't suit you, like me, go to her office hours. She makes it comfortable to ask for help, and she will get you through it.
Great teacher. Gives examples on how to do problems, slows down if the class isnt with her. quizes are easy, exams are what you have been taught. If you keep up with the paper homework and mymath lab will can get an A in the class. Will take more of her classes. Highly Recommend.
Professor Owens knows the material well enough and takes the time to explain anything you're unclear on. She is available for office visits, but I found she answered all my questions during class time. She gives out paper and online homework, which I suggest doing to help boost your grade. For me, this was an easy class.
Nice at first but she doesn't know how to teach at all. She can be rude sometimes. Relies too much on students for everything, would make mistakes if it weren't for us correcting her. Not a good teacher and you could tell if she disliked a student.. Luckily the math was way easy.
Prof. Owens is professional, supportive, and respectful towards students. Class is university-level workload, but much less stressful. Her grading is fair, sometimes a bit lenient. A is not easy, but it is doable. I would be happy if she teaches all Calculus 1-3, linear, and diff-eq. Excellent teacher.
She gives plenty of hmwk, so a dissatisfactory grade on an exam may not be so bad. Nonetheless, a study group is VERY helpful. She gives an extensive review sheet for every exam and almost every problem on it will have a similar counterpart on the exam. She loves to teach and will make the class enjoyable for anyone willing to stay.
She is very helpful and personable. Anyone who stays in her class will have fun despite the workload of calculus. She makes the material easy to comprehend by breaking down problems. I would definately take her class for calc. 2 & 3 if I could. :P
she is really sweet and helpful. visit office hours, and get to know teacher personally can be very helpful on homework. test are not extermely easy so study and spend time in this class. do online hw and problems in book. overall a okay class! she makes mistakes a lot though.
I enjoyed her teaching; she makes problems clear and easy to understand. If there's any questions about homework, she'll go over it with you. Overall a great Professor and highly recommend taking her class!
Professor Owens is fantastic! She grades hard, but fair! She is always available for extra help, and is patient.
Quite disappointed with this professor. Not very good at teaching at all, expects the homework to teach it to you and it doesn't. Homework is great for reinforcing, not teaching! Makes alot of mistakes, and assigns homework then when asked to go over problems without fail there is always one where she says, oops I should'nt have assigned that one
Poor teacher, lots of homework. Doesn't do a good job explaining material. Will should you how to do AB and tests you on CD.
Very nice and and helpful. Math is not easy for me but I managed to get a B. She moves a little fast so you need to pay attention. All homework was done online. She gives you points for work shown even if the answer is wrong. I've decided to take her again.
For the people who recently rated her MATH400, that's pathetic. I can understand why you rated her as low, and that's because you put zero effort. Professor Owens is an excellent teacher, she really teaches you the material. You simply learn it. She spends an extraordinary time in lecture to explain it. You simply didn't put in the effort.
DO NOT TAKE. If you are great at math & have been taking it previously you may keep up, but if it's been a while since you've taken math then this is NOT the teacher for you. She rushes through the sections in class, and tests you on stuff you learned a month ago. Doesn't email back and isn't at her office hours. HORRIBLE
Worst prof I've ever had the misfortune to take a class from. Do yourself a favor & avoid her at all costs. Will only allow you TI86 or less powerful in calculus. REALLY? I should have left immediately when she said that I could not use a graphing calculator.
If I have to learn everything myself then why do I need the "professor"? Tests are difficult if you don't study on your own. ALOT of homework. Poor teacher. Seems like a nice lady though.
So glad I took CalcIII from her. She is extremely nice, has clear expectations and thoroughly explains everything. She made Calc III tolerable. Ignore the people who give her bad ratings for Calc I: calculus is kinda hard, regardless of the teacher. Also ignore the guy who wanted to use a 3D graphing calculator for our class. LOL
If you work hard, professor Owens will always try to help you. She's usually on time, friendly, and professional. She's serious, yet playful. Lots of homework, but sufficient time to finish. Lectures are clear. She'd introduce new topics by using known basic materials, then relate these materials to the new topics. Good instructor.
I took her for CALC 2. She was deffinetly worth it. Learned a lot but the class is very tough and she is the best one to teach it so i had a good time.
She is a great teacher! She's very helpful, always there if you need her! Will go over things until you understand them! Just participate in class, ask questions if you don't understand something and you will be fine! Again awesome teacher, first math teacher I've had where I actually understood the content!
Prof. Owens is a great teacher and you can tell that she really cares about students. She always explained the concepts really well and made sure that we understand. I actually understand calc 3! Definitely recommend Prof. Owens for calculus!
I took Professor Owens for Calc 1 this semester. She makes written and online homework mandatory, which was a pain when I was doing it, but I appreciated it in the long run because it made me understand the material more thoroughly. I recommend her for anyone taking calculus.
I really like the professor she is very nice. If i had not taken math in highschool and didnt have memory of previous learned math I dont think the class would have been as easy at it was. Other students did struggle and I would always have to ask for homework question help. Take this class if you know what you are doing
Pretty lazy teacher. Usually posts homework late so you don't have a lot of time to do it. Class is very boring; the she takes so long to write the proofs on the board (and then immediately erase them) that you probably won't see an example in class. Good thing she's lax on attendance, cause the book is a better teacher than her.
Not super helpfull. Makes a lot of mistakes on the board so it gets really confusing. Nice but doesn't teach super well.
Great teacher, this subject is very conceptual, so you may need to do extra study outside of class to really get it, one can not simply memorize formulas. However, she is a good teacher and explains things very well, the class could use another 20 minutes though to really get through everything. Recommend for Linear Algebra.
She is a really good teacher. But OMG she gives soo much homework. expect alot of book and mymathlab homework. A LOT of it!!! and she assigns homework throughout the week. even tho its due every monday you dont have the chance to do it all early so you can focus on your other classes. Gorgeous but thats not really her fault lol
She is very nice, but oftentimes goes way too fast. Once in a while she'll introduce a new notation (like lim, sigma, or integration) without explaining what it means. If you take her youll be ok, but not mt 1st choice. I think the key is to read the section in the textbook before coming to class. Also, expect a ton of homework, but itll help you.
If your willing to ask she's willing to show you. Don't plan on skipping class because you won't pass the class. HW is your way of studying and practicing what you went over . She is a good professor but she goes very fast she expects you to read the material before so you can contribute during class. Let's you redo Hw.
She gives you everything you need to do good on the HW and tests. She is a very nice professor that makes the class enjoyable even in the morning. Take her.
Owens is a very sensible person. She is very kind and grades generously (partial points given). However, I did not find her learning style effective for me. Her teaching felt scattered. Would not take again unless needed. Class consists of 4 unit exams, 1 quiz a week, online homework, textbook homework, and comprehensive final. Gives extra credit.
Great teacher! Class was definitely hard but you just have to study and work for your grade and you'll be fine! She's also pretty hot which was definitely a plus!
Class is very easy, explains the formulas very well. A little fast but will take longer to explain if asked. She's very understanding. Also very nice. Does give out a lot of homework but it helps understand what you're doing and helps for the exams. Quiz once a week, very easy. She takes away one quiz at the end of semester. No calculators!
Didn't really like her. I don't think her teaching style really meshed well with my learning style.
Took her class in the morning and it was pretty tough. She tries to cover so much during 1 hour period that a lot of ppl get confused. Grades tests pretty fairly and pretty generous on partial credit(although they are not easy). Hw is online on Pearson but the good thing is that you can always improve your score .
She is pretty nice when you talk to her but she gives very hard tests and is tough on grading. Calculus is hard and the way she explains things makes it difficult to pass. Plan on do a lot of work..
NO! worst teacher i have EVER had. NEVER take her. I had an A in the class & it dropped to a C from one exam. 4 tests & 1 final 76 percent of your grade. hw assignments & 9 quizzes 24 percent of your grade. puts things on the exams that she doesn't teach in class. 2 exams in 12 weeks, 3 exams in last 4 weeks. NO
TXTBK: Expensive, but online hw feature is a huge contribution to the easy A. HMW: Its all on wileyplus / online. Easy to follow and youll almost always get full points for trying to get the right answer. Sometimes youll have take home projects you can do with others, usually easy. Exams: Cumilative of past chptrs, lets you use full pg notes.
Pretty great professor. She really cares if you understand the material or not. I would take her class again!
Owens is the plain Jane of instructors. She'll lecture till the end of class and even till after the class time has passed all in order to keep up with her syllabus schedule. This is all done at the cost of learning the course material. Prepare for horrendous amounts of homework. She's not very lenient and was overall a poor teacher that won't help
Good lectures that were able to get through the material, but some of the class got left behind. Tests were decently hard, and the quizzes were very short timed so I ended up losing points on something that was out of my control. If you don't have natural skills in understanding math, you will have to work very hard. Quite a lot of homework too.
The professor relied a lot on her lecture. If you missed class, you miss out a lot on your notes. She lets you make up quizzes if you weren't in attendance. She lectured the whole class and it was hard to focus over time. Lots of homework she assigned including online and textbook. Often showsup to class late and unplanned.
Owens gets fairly bad ratings on this site, but she is the best math professor I have had through high school and college. She really cares about her students understanding the material. Homework is all reasonable for a math class and it helps you prepare for the tests. She's very nice so if you fall behind she's there to help!
Shes easy to talk to outside of class, but not when it comes to Stats. hard to focus bc its dull and she goes on about one topic forever. Seems to second guess. I taught myself the stuff. Most work is online & takes a lot of time. 5 exams (30%), one final multiple choice/short answer (25%), 2 cheet sheets. 1 extra credit assignment at end of sem.
Quizzes everyday that count for 40% of your grade. HW almost everyday on Webassign ( extra $100 ), often several assignments due on the same day, and posted w/o notice. Tests are difficult, never curves or drops test. very unorganized. She IS nice and let's u do quiz retakes but overall not good unless you already know the material.
DO NOT LISTEN TO THESE REVIEWS!!! THEY ARE ALL FALSE!!! MRS. OWENS DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE CALLED A TEACHER FOR A VARIETY OF REASONS. SHE EXPECTS EVErYONE TO KNOW 1 LESSON OF BORING LECTURE IN 1 DAY AND MOVE ON TO THE NEXT LESSON!!!
Mrs. Owens class had concept quizzes (every other day), 4 tests, online homework, and a final. She's dedicated to her students and keen on helping them succeed. Her lessons are insightful, and office hours are a grade-saver. She explains concepts in clear steps and offers extra credit. Take notes, ask questions, practice: get an A.
Be prepared to teach yourself, and dont plan to get ahead in this class because she doesnt seem to plan ahead. Sooo much homework, and instances where lecture wasnt posted but the hw was.... not that her lectures help at all. Do yourself a favor and dont take her class bc there are plenty of math teachers who care more about you learning concepts.
Dont teach that great, uses other YouTube professors to teach us, a lot of tests and quizzes, annoying too and not understanding.
She is a great calculus teacher and her teaching methods make it easy for me to understand the material. Homework is through webassign. The concept quizzes and exams will be graded by partial credit. Attendance isn't mandatory but at this level in math you should know to be there and that you will have to put time into extra learning methods.
Professor Owens was awful. She's nice as a person but as a teacher she's not good at all. She completely ruined my final grade because the weight wasn't included the whole time so we though our grade was higher than it was but she ended up dropping it 6%, taking my A to a B. PLEASE DON'T TAKE HER!!!!
Professor owens is awful. She is no help at all and makes everything extremely difficult. Completely ruined my chances of passing to the next class. Please dont take her and find someone else
The way she grades quizzes is hilarious, as she grades the most recent quiz rather than your best attempt. Never explains how you got a bad grade. She just says so. Homework barely correlates with the problems that are on the tests. Her ways of teaching are questionable, as she explains the material as if we already know it. Terrible.
Professor Owens SUCKS! She graded late and was very condescending. Extremely tough and rude. Ruined any chances I had to move on because of her harsh grading. Hw and lecture were nothing like the tests and we basically taught ourselves. Nothing was taught but we weren't allowed to learn for ourselves without being accused of cheating. Please beware
This was the worst math professor I've ever taken in my entire life. The homework barely boosts your grade and costs 100$, you get 2-3 pop quizzes every week, exams are different from the material. Office hours are basically useless because she will leave you more confused, whatever you do AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS!!!
2-3 Quizzes a week, optional zoom classes 9 am in the morning, but her audio and camera sucks and everyone is too tired so no one attends them. Have to pay 100 for homework that barely does anything to your grade. Useless group projects, like its math and online bruh. Organic chemistry teacher on youtube is the goat, good luck.
Honestly a really good person and you can tell she is extremely busy with all the work she has to grade. However, the class itself is extremely hard and she doesn't make it any easier. I think it would be best if she changed her style of teaching. Quizzes every week and tests (that do not match the study guide) isn't really working.
Doesn't require a textbook although she uses Cengage, which includes an online textbook. Took her asynchronous class and it wasn't bad. The work was ok but she is a wonderful professor. She recorded every lecture which was extremely helpful. Tests/quizzes are due the day after they're assigned. Understanding and nice :)
You can tell she really cares about her students and their grades. She will take time to explain a problem to you if you are confused. The work may be really hard but you also have to remember this is a calculus class.
If you can't handle this class, reconsider your major. Professor Owens was a fair Calculus professor when I took her class in the 2022 fall semester. Calculus I is slightly challenging as expected, but Owens makes the class easy to follow, though not perfectly. Slow to grade and the homework and lessons don't match sometimes.
There is a great amount of work in this class. At least 3 quizzes a week. Most of the time there is around 4 or 6 assignments due a day and her study guides don't match her exams.
I personally do not recommend her as a math professor especially if you are struggling in math or math is not your strong suit. Her audio was not good at all and she would not explain things good at all. She used other professors youtube videos while you were filling out your lecture notes. Her exams are also proctored.
Shit teacher. Absolute shit. Sure she's nice but wtf does that matter if she's absolute shit at teaching. Take someone else. She just uses ready made assignments from third parties and steals other math teachers' videos from youtube and then posts it and asks you to take notes on it. Wasted my time.
As long as you stay consistent and put in the effort you will pass. Such an amazing and helpful professor. Going to office hours helped me the most!
She posted high quality lectures where you turned in notes at the end of each week, gave credit for attempting problems on exams and provided study guides. But, she falsely accused me and many other classmates of cheating. Kicked people out of the class (even on the FINAL) and threatened expulsion to some accused of cheating-exams were proctored.
She may like statistics but cannot teach it. She doesn't cover all the material she puts in her exams. She says in all of her assignments, "use whatever material we can find" to teach ourselves. Which I do. But statistics is a difficult class that should have a professor who takes the time with her students.
This is a severely underrated professor. Lecture was long but thorough, and the homework was tough, but so long as you ask her for help, you will get 100% every time. She can make mistakes but she is always so kind and quick to correct if you point it out. Calc 2 was easy with this professor.
She was nice but condescending when asked for help. Wouldn't recommend taking her if you aren't strong in math. One of those people that gets math right away and cant fathom that not everyone can do that. Lengthy and difficult homework assignments on topics barely covered. Atypical notes, would only work out problems for us mostly.
She cares about grades and gives quizzes very often which makes you study a lot. Quiz system is strange but not bad. Exams are similar to quiz problems. Retakes are allowed for quizzes. For exams study what she spent the most time on. Some things on study guides will not be on the exam (guides are harder than exams). I'd rate her 3.5/5.
I absolutely loved her and how she taught. We did have a quiz most days in class but the quizzes were meant to help show you where you were at in your learning on the subject. I loved how she taught and she was always willing to back track so the class understood what was going on. You can tell she loves the subject.
This was the worst class I have taken. RIDICULOUS amount of homework (i had 28 assignments due in ONE WEEK) For tests you are required to show work in a separate file submission but don't worry you only have 10 minutes once you submit your test to turn your files/work into a pdf and submit it or else you get a zero. worst professor I've ever had.
This professor accused me of cheating twice once at the very beginning of class because I was quick with the homework. I reached out multiple times for help without reply. When I took the final waited three weeks to get graded and then she posts another passive aggressive post talking about cheating and students not caring.
Homework and a project ALOT everything was timed! Very strict and unethical. Must show work submitting the work for quizzes and tests within 10 minutes afterward or else you get 0 points. Notes are not helpful. I had to teach myself and you tube. Uses her personal life issues to get mad at students. She says she round grades up, but she does not!
