he is crazy!! just listening to him talk makes me want to laugh. he is VERY repetitive! there isn't much reading, and his tests are pretty easy.
True he is very repetitive, But that gives us more clearity, not a hard teacher,Cover material very clear and done fast... average class time is about 35 mins a day
Rod is a good guy. i accidently missed the final exam and he still let me take it.
he says the same things over and over. he looks like doctor evil from austin powers and he talks with his eyes closed. it is hard not to laugh at him.. so don't sit very close where he can see you laughing at him. he is very nice and lets you drop grades
this guy is awesome. all the negative comments are crazy!
Professor Evans is a good person. He lectures are long but informative and the class does not last for the whole 3 hours. The test are sometimes hard but after you get the idea and concepts the final exam should be a breeze.
HE IS THE HARDEST PROF. THAT I EVER HAD. HIS FIRST TEST IS JUST 20 QUESTIONS TRUE AND FALSE, BUT HE MAKES THEM SO TRICKY, SO EVEN IF YOU STUDIED YOU DON'T KNOW WHETHER ITS TRUE OR FALSE. HIS SECOND TEST IS THE EASIEST AND HIS FINAL IS NOT THAT HARD. HE DROPS THE LOWEST TEST GRADE.
Dr. Evans is freaking awesome. Average class time is 25 minutes and he is hilarious. Exams aren't too bad just be there for the review sessions.
Great guy! He is super nice and I would recommend him to everyone. Gosh I haven't had his class in over a year now...does he still have that bald head? Hahahah, its so cute.
Great instructor! He drops one test and he is very clear about what will be on the tests. Watch out for that first test - all true/false and a little tricky.
He is a overall good professor.
Great professor. Lectures can be a little dull but he makes a comfortable environment for people to interact. Test do contain True and False, but if you actually just pay attention in class you will have no problem. This isn't rocket science.
Great teacher. For once someone who will teach you to understand and let you enjoy 100-level material without simply making you bust your *ss. Discussions and reading material are very interesting. Do the test reviews and be there when he goes over them and you'll do fine on the tests.
This guy is soooo easy!! All you have to do is go to class and take notes and you will get an A. He is a really nice guy and repeats anything that is important many times. He has a bald head and reminds me of Dr. Evil!
awesome teacher and person
All you have to do is go to class review day and test day and you got it!
Easy class! He's a really nice guy and LOVES to talk. The information is not hard to understand, because he tends to repeat himself over and over again until no more questions are asked. attendence isn't that important, but it will help. As long as you show up to review day and study the review sheet thoroughly for the test= 'A' for you
Very helpful!! Gives thorough test reviews and isn't too serious about attendance.
this guy is great. he's so cool and he teaches so matter-of-factly. i had this class at 9 am on SATURDAY, and i loved it. it didnt feel like i was getting up to go to a class, it was like it was something i wanted to do. this one guy liked the class so much he brought his wife. great teacher
i was dreading philosophy... but i actually look forward to his class, he is probably one of the best professors i have had at odu because he is so clear and thorough. repeats himself. he is atually really funny and i just love him
He is a descent teacher, the class was always pretty intereting and normally didnt last more than twenty minutes. He is a little strange, but in a good way. He will definatly make you laugh even though that is not his intention at all.
Very nice and helpful, genuinely cares about Philosophy. Class was usually short, averaging about 20 minutes long. He constantly will repeat himself to the point where you will remember it. Gives reviews before tests, which come in handy if you don't usually go to class. As long as you come in for those you can score an A, that's what I did!
Wow... what a great class. I really enjoyed the class discussions. He got to the point, made sure u understood, and then class was over. You can tell he's passionate about what he does and he's just the sweetest guy you'll ever meet. Very thorough review. You'll learn a lot if you go to class. Great guy. I'd suggest this class to any and everyone.
Wonderful guy. Very good teacher. Keeps class fun and interesting. You have to do the work, and study, but as long as you do, he will give you as much credit as possible.
The easiest Philosophy teacher you could possibly get. DO NOT buy the book. He spends the entire class period giving you detailed notes on exactly what you need to know for tests. He also gives EXCELLENT exam reviews in which he gives you the answers to. There are only 3 tests and the final. He drops your lowest test grade. IMPOSSIBLE to fail!!
Incredibly easy-going. Test reviews cover everything clearly, answer-by-answer. You can get away with not buying a textbook. Although he's very easy, he does know a lot about what he teaches. Gives strange, semi-coherent lectures and writes all over the board.
Dr. Evans is so chill. He's a great teacher, and our average class time is about 20 minutes. He uses really funny metaphors to explain things, and he makes philosophy interesting. I was dreading this class, but I actually LOVED it. He explains the reading so well, you don't even need the book. Easy A if you do the work.
Very good teacher overall, sometimes is repetitive but that's good for memorizing the answers for tests and he knows his stuff. definitely gotta give him the pepper too haha, oh yeah
Pick one: go to class, or read the book. He explains material thoroghly and the class its self is very interesting "belieeeve you me." But you do have to know the material to get a good grade on the test. Love Rod, difinately recommend him
This guy loves to chat it seems. He spends the whole time talking and doesnt allow (or demand) too much class participation. He keeps you in class the entire time but gives great reviews pre-test...his test are very tricky and kudos to the person that added the "belieeve you me" comment...its so true!
this guy was great took this class over the summer and it wasnt even a month long and he never had class for the whole time. if you just study what he puts on the board you will get an A papers werent hard either! take him for philosophy if you can!
Great teacher! Although I was not interested in the course, he made it interesting. He explains concepts thoroughly and is extremely helpful. He is passionate about what he teaches, adn loves to talk (sometimes very animated..."BELIEVE YOU ME!)
Good teacher, tricky test questions. If you study the material thoroughly you will do fine.
Interesting teacher, very helpful. Easy A if you study for the 4 multiple choice/ true false tests.
If the only classes you go to are the reviews you will get an A on the 3 true/false tests. The paper is a different story. You must attend a couple classes to understand the paper. Very accommodating teacher. Says religious funny.
EASY EASY EASY!!!! Went to MAYBE half of the classes and still made an "A" He is a very good teacher and passionate about what he does. He provides study guides and if you study those and go to the reviews you will do just fine! Easy class to fill a cluster. TAKE HIM!!!
He's a wonderful teacher. True/false questions were easy. You don't have to go to class, but i'd recommend it since he thoroughly explains the material. 1 paper, 2 exams, final. Definitely go to test reviews. I made my A.
Initially I was not interested in taking this course because I had heard that it was difficult if taught by another professor. Gratefully something happened and I ended up with Prof Evans. He talks fast but repeats himself ALOT! 2 tests and 2 papers. Easy summer class... I got an A! A definite must have. Who knew business ethics could be so fun?!
Awesome teacher. As long as you take good notes then you will be sure to get an A. It's a lot of memorization, so listen to what he says in class. The tests are T/F and multiple choice. And he dedicates an entire class before the test to review so you know practically all the questions on the test. Recommend!
Professor Evans is a great guy with lots of personality. As long as you take good notes, and show up for test reviews, you're garunteed to pass with flying colors. He responds to emails very quickly, and doesn't make a big deal out of being late. It is easy to tell he loves his job, and is a fun guy to talk with. Excellent professor all around.
Dr. Evans is well-respected in the field of philosophy (as I've come to find out) and is an excellent teacher. I highly recommend this professor to anyone with more than a superficial interest in social-political philosophy.
Great Professor!! Prof. Evans tests only on material covered in class and provides test reviews that make it impossible to get below a B. He makes class fun and encourages class participation.
Dr. Evans obviously knows his stuff. He tends to ramble and get off track, but the discussions are always interesting, "believe you me" (anyone who has taken him will understand that). Attendance not mandatory, jut make sure you go to the exam reviews and you'll be fine. Definitely recommend him!
Not an easy subject to cover in a VTC but Dr Evans does well in covering the material. Go to the test reviews and dont miss the lectures and you will be fine.
took him for ethics. boring and rambles in circles. but it's easy. just very borrrrring
Great professor, and a really great guy. He lectures each class, keeps the material interesting and always goes over exactly what you need for the exams. I Barely opened my textbook, just took notes and did great on exams. Fun course.
very nice guy and a good teacher . go over the study guide before the tests and you will do fine. you have to write a paper but other than that there isn't any homework
I called him at home and he was pleased to answer my questions. Tests are very clear and no tricks. He knows ethics and is really efficient at teaching it. The essays are not harshly graded as long as yo get your point accross. One of the best at ODU by far!!!
Interesting class and professor. 2 tests & 2 papers. The tests are straight forward and from the lectures.
Take this class, Dr Evans is knowledgeable, personable, and very helpful. He will cover all the material in class that you will see on the tests. You will have two papers to write, but neither are difficult to accomplish and the topics will come from the textbook. Great class if your a Philosophy major or just in need of an upper gen ed course.
Great teacher, Great guy. You can tell he is really knowledgeable, but never talks down to the students. Class was fun and he is extremely entertaining and insightful. Easy class as well, only 3 grades.
Dr. Evans is extremely knowledgeable, I thoroughly enjoyed his lectures and class discussions. He was extremely helpful with the final paper, taking a rough draft and giving pointers before I had to turn in the final copy. He was very straightforward and tested on exactly what was in the study guides.
This man is a genius, literally, has written books, dictionaries, trivia books. GOOGLE HIM. Prepare to have your mind blown, this class is fast paced, but he goes over EVERYTHING during test reviews. Tests are all straight forward, 1 term paper. He gets very involved and rambles at time, but highly recommend for an upper level class, learned a lot.
He is a GENIUS! So knowledgeable about course content and much more. This is probably the easiest course ever. You wont need the textbook. He gives you everything that will be on the exam at the class before at the test. 2 tests, 1 final, 1 paper, all easy. Definitely take him and boost your GPA.
Professors Evans is an excellent teacher. He cares a lot about his students. There is a lot of reading but if you listen to his lectures, take notes, and participate in class discussions, you will do well. His tests are very similar to his class discussions and the readings. He is willing to help anyone who ask for help. Take this teacher!!!
Dr. Evans is a wonderful professor. So easy to contact, gives you email responses within a day and a cell # for questions. Goes through everything you need to know for exams on review day. Fair grading for papers. 2 papers and 2 tests. Obviously loves teaching. Lectures are informative, well prepared, and usually pretty short. Very nice guy!
Sweetest professor at ODU. Really cares about his students and is always happy to help. Always respects his students and their views on things and never talks down on them. Gives a couple papers with clear grading criteria and gives two tests, both of which he provides a study guide and goes over it in class before the test. Definitely recommend!
Prof. Evans is a good professor. Attendance not mandatory. No homework. Only 4 tests (3 20 question and a 40 question final) and a paper. Only 5 grades for your average so if your not a great test taker this professor may not be for you. He's old school. He tends to be pretty repetitive in lecture. Class never lasted the entire allotted time.
His lectures are at times a bit boring, but he's a great professor. Attendance isn't mandatory, just show up for the test review days and you'll pass. You have 3 tests, a paper, and a final. He lets you turn in a draft of the paper for review before you turn in the final draft. He is very helpful and I would recommend him to anyone.
My experience with this professor was online. He made his lectures short (instead of them being the designated 3hrs, usually they were 1.5hrs), and he made it extremely clear what would be on the exam. Participation and attendance was not necessary, though attendance is extremely helpful for the exam (he goes over questions that are like the exam).
Professor Evans is very enthusiastic and helpful! The tests are quick and easy, assuming you did the homework and review. He requires one paper, and is very gracious and helpful with feedback. He is willing to review drafts. The book isn't totally necessary, but it's good to have and read. I recommend this class and will take others from Evans.
Professor Evans is awesome. His lectures may seem a bit boring for some, but I think they're very interesting. There were 3 grades in this class: a test, a paper, and a final. The two tests are very easy as long as you show up for the test review. The paper is pretty easy as well. I never took notes this semester and got an A.
I rate Prof Evans as the best teacher I've ever had. He loves to talk and i learned so much just talking with him. Do the reading, pay attention, participate in class and you have an easy A. Before each quiz, he goes through review sheets, so it makes it super easy to get an A. He is very approachable and helped me craft my essay.
As others have previously stated, he is the sweetest professor I have ever had. He has an incredible personality and makes his lectures interesting. He will go way out of his way to help his students, including meeting after class hours in person or on the phone. If you fear Philosophy or Ethics, this is the man to take.
Professor Evans was the most caring professor Ive ever had. His kindness is so endearing and genuine. I definitely recommend you take this professor, he will change your life.
This class is very lecture-heavy. You have to read the book and show up. There are 2 tests and one paper. Professor Evans was very hard to follow and sometimes would just ramble. If you don't read the book you'll be lost cause you cant follow his lectures. However, he is very knowledgeable. If you are passionate about the philosophy you'll love him
He genuinely cares about his students and encourages class discussions and debates. He is probably the smartest person I've ever met in real life and it shows when he speaks about the subjects.
Had five grades, 20% each: 3 tests, 1 paper and a final. The paper should be an easy 'A' because he outlines specifically how he wants it done. The first test was the hardest, but the third test was also difficult. Do the reading and you should be ok. He also gives out test review sheets that make studying a piece of cake. Overall I recommend him!
Creates an environment that is easy to learn in, and cares more about content then word count. Awesome professor!
All he does it talk there is no powerpoints, he barely writes anything on the board, and if you ask him for a copy of his notes all he will tell you is, you can record his lecture. He goes way to fast in class, I had to teach my self this class. You do bad on 1 test good luck passing the class. Your grade is 3 test and 1 paper at 100 points each.
He does talk a lot in his lectures but he knows his material and will present it in a way that is easy to understand. He doesn't offer a lot of assignments but is a fair grader on his papers and he offers test reviews before tests so if you pay attention in his lectures you should have no problem getting a good grade. Gives good feedback on papers.
He was a great professor, attend class and youll do great. He really encourages everyone to use flash cards to study, so do that. Not a heavy grader, he is open to opinions. I would take him again, but dont expect your overall grade until the end of the year.
I will- say if you don't study or prepare for the tests then you're gonna be STUCK. However, if you just pay attention in the lectures, ask for the lecture notes if you missed the class, and study the study guide, you'll do great. The only grades we had were from multiple choice/true or false tests and a final paper. Very sweet, understandable guy.
First teacher I've ever rated he was amazing. there were 2 tests, and 2 papers. one 1000 word case paper, and one 2000 word argumentative paper (his lecture said he would take 1500). Each is 25%. Multiple people got 100s on both papers including me (2.2gpa) EASY GRADER. Would definitely recommend him if you need the class.
This class was straightforward and manageable, especially during the summer. For the summer semester, there are four exams, and one essay. All are easy to get an A on if you use the study guide and lecture notes provided. Overall, easy A.
4 assignments and each one is worth 25% of the final grade. Pretty easy class and Dr. Evans is lecture-heavy but knowledgable. He is also very accessible by email or phone if you need help. Try to get the papers done ahead of time and have Dr. Evans critique them before submitting them, you will get docked for some stylistic and grammar mistakes.
This professor talked in circles and constantly repeats himself. There was only 5 assignments the whole semester with tests being 4 of the 5. If you are not a good test taker or cannot focus do NOT take his class. However, he is a nice guy and very understanding just not the best at explaining things.
Only 5 assignments all worth 20% of your grade so if you do bad on some then you will have a hard time getting a good grade. Really nice guy never really went to the full class time but it was a confusing class
POOR communication. Gave us our syllabus 2 weeks after the class started. First 2 weeks the class canvas was blank, in set up mode & didn't notify us once he did set it up. Would email claiming he told us things but such statements are no where to be found. Honestly rude and unprofessional for a professor.
There are only 5 grades in this class, 4 tests and one paper. The tests aren't hard, but you will certainly need to study because one bad grade can really set you back. He didn't really go over how to do the paper, but he isn't a harsh grader, so I didn't matter too much to me. He's a nice guy and loved to get into conversations with his students.
Dr. Evans made PHIL 110P manageable within a 6-week time span, and he allows for open lecture notes exams, which are very helpful for this type of class. His workload was not nearly as much as other lower level gen ed requirements, I did not get an A because I did not put in enough work. Overall, Dr. Evans is a solid professor. 10/10
I hate writing papers so I was a but nervous for this course, but he grades extremely fair. If I can get an A, you definitely can too. He will critique your paper if you get it sent to him before the due date, and is very clear for what he is looking for. My main complaint is he does not put grades into Canvas, or really use Canvas at all.
