He just started teaching there under another teacher's name. Super unconventional class but he honestly could not care anymore about his students. He helps out as much as possible and has you conference with him before you turn in your papers and tells you what to do to make a better grade. Most amazing teacher ever.
Rod has been my favorite English teacher hands down! He goes great lengths to make sure that everyone is involved in the class discussion and wants everyone to feel at ease. He’s willing to meet with students outside of class to go over their papers before turning them in. He is very easy going and has the students best interest at heart Rod rocks!
Take this teacher. Why? He's super chill, he really wants you to succeed and will go out of his way, he takes class to different buildings and outside just for the heck of it to keep things interesting and he has a lot of good stories while still making sure you learn. I learned more in this class than I have in any English class. TAKE HIM!
He is the most helpful teacher I have had in my life. I strongly recommend him. If english is not your native language and you are not so good at it, you will be blessed to get his class. He loves "diversity." Of course, you have to work, but you WILL LEARN.
Rod is great as far as teaching goes. He's very helpful and tries to connect with the class, and he's quick to respond to emails. He does spend a lot of time integrating his own beliefs into the class, so be wary of that. Other than that, he's a really easygoing guy and I would definitely recommend his class.
Rod is an awesome teacher. He's cool and laid back. He really helps you out when you need him
If you do not get his class you will REGRET IT. i passed with a 91 and i am taking his class for 1302 next semester. His class is not easy but what class is? However, he makes class clear and fun to attend. Every day you learn something new in there. He weaves in ethics, life stories, etc etc. TAKE HIS CLASS. TRUST ME!!!
Rockin Rod is a great instructor. Heard he loves Little Ceasars Pizza.
Rod is the most awesome Professor at UTA. He is helpful and cares about his students. He teaches you more about life and how to weave in your own beliefs into your writing. He taught me valuable lessons and helped me find my voice!! If you ever get a chance take a class with rod. You won't regret it!!
I read a lot of comments saying hes super easy. Its not that hes easy but that he explains and goes into great detail of what the assignment is requiring. He was really good at attending his office hours as well as making sure to respond to emails in a quick manor. I would take him all over again if I could. He was such amazing teacher.
Very Funny and interesting professor. Very insightful. Actually makes you want to go to class. A fair professor, you do the work the way he explains it, and you will get a good grade. Nice guy, really positive. I recommend him to everyone.
He is a fun professor that knows how to keep a class interesting. He tries his best to change the typical class setting into a community that can help each other. As long as you complete all your assignments and stick to the guidelines, you should make a good grade. Great teacher! Recommend him 100%.?
He is a fun professor that knows how to keep a class interesting. He tries his best to change the typical class setting into a community that can help each other. As long as you complete all your assignments and stick to the guidelines, you should make a good grade. Great teacher! I recommend his class.
This professor is awesome. He makes class fun entertaining and makes participation easy. He helps you improve on all your assignments and tries his best for you to get an A
Follow the instructions, participate, and you will do well in this class.
He's fun, interesting and makes class something to look forward to every time. He really tries to get you thinking about more than just the next assignment on the list but when it comes to doing well on assignments, he tries his best to help you. (random lunches invites, individual conference time..etc)
Rod takes this somewhat meaningless course and makes it worthwhile; he gives it a purpose that is customized and applicable to each and every student. He is a great teacher and a great guy; however, do not mistake that for him being lenient on grades and assignments. (This isn't to say he's strict, just don't think he'll let assignments slide.)
This man, has changed the way I live my life. A great person and a great teacher. Very helpful when you need it.
I would definitely recommend this professor! He's pretty laid back and hippy-ish but he knows what he's talking about. You'll receive more then just an English lesson by taking him. If you're struggling he's very willing to work with you! He genuinely cares about his students.
This class is really fun. Rod is a nice guy. He helps you anytime (just call, text, or email). I think I have chose the right class to take Composition 2 at UTA.
I never taught English could be that fun. Professor Rod is a great teacher, very helpful and caring. The way he teaches is different and different is always a great way to learn about life.
This class is great and he is a very caring professor which is hard to find but he makes things overly complicated and while he is a great writer when it come to teaching he can stray off course. You will learn in his class how to live a better life and become a better human.
Great Teacher! He takes the time to sit down and talk to you and if you are going through a rough time he is always there with helpful advice! His lectures are very interesting! He incorporates his life into what he teaches. I definitely without a doubt recommend him! It will be your favorite class of the semester. Keep in mind you do have to try
All i can say about this class is... just take this class!! I loved this class and highly recommend to take it for you ENGL 1302. A lot of fun in class lecture. You will learn something more than you would expected.
Amazingly helpful when it's needed. He's also very abstract in his way of thinking. You will definitely think outside of the box with his class. Be prepared for random spurts of weirdness and craziness. Overall, quite a fun class.
Rod is a great teacher. This class really opened my eyes to things beyond just the mandatory writing assignments. He shows you another side of things. This class was definitely an experience! Rod helps you feel completely comfortable and really helps you out if you need it. Keep in mind to always stay up to date with the writings and drafts!
Super! Guys, if you are not taking him for ENGL 1302, you are missing out on a lot of things. He makes the lesson fun and enjoyable with out-of-the-classroom lessons at times.Simply put, he has expectations of success for all students, demonstrate a willingness to adapt and change to meet student needs and has a sense of purpose. Highly recommended!
If you really need to learn and make a good grade at the same time, this is the professor you should take it and I would recommended to everyone, because he cares about his students and if you dont learn or make good grade its because you did not try at all.
He is one of the best professor ever! He helps you every times you have problems. Be sure that you go to class often and you will be fine. He is also a good friend outside class, which you can talk and share with him.
Genuinely one of the best professors I have ever had, Rod is compassionate and driven; and this shows through his style of teaching. You will learn far beyond just English, Rod's unique outlook on life is captivating and effectively slips its way into lessons. Definitely a class I would recommend to anyone looking to truly learn.
Very energetic professor, enjoys when the class is involved
Awesome professor! He actually cares about his students and gives real feedback on papers. Would take him again if I could! :)
Mr. Sachs is a great teacher that loves to get the entire class involved and participating. The essays are rather difficult, but Rod always offers outside of class assistance if needed. Great class, but time consuming.
He is a very good teacher. He made class very interesting and fun to go to. His essays may be confusing at first, but if you communicate with him it makes it soooo much easier and clearer to writer. I would recommend him anyday.
Professor Sachs is a great teacher. Although the work is very hard and you must attend every class because it is mandatory, he makes the class interesting and fun. He gives out extra credit through journal entries which help out a lot. All in all I recommend everyone to take Professor Sachs for english 1302 if you would like to have a fun teacher.
I have one advice, TAKE THIS CLASS. it is not the easiest class duh but it will be the class where you finally understood how to write a decent paper. He is the most understanding and helpful professor
He is one of the best professors that I have every taken in my seven semesters here. He cares for the students and tries to do anything to help your grade if you're struggling. He makes class really fun and exciting too. I would take his class again if I could.
This guy is a must take for english. He will NEVER give up on you and he truly cares about all his students. By far the best professor I have ever had in my life.
If you really need to learn and at the same time if you really need to make a good grade then Professor Rod is the teacher you need to take his class, because he is really helpful and understanding and if you end up not learning writting or get a good grade then you did not trying.
He is an amazing teacher, very helpful is willing to work with you. he loves what he does and he brings out the best in his students. You have to do the work cause it will show if you don't he is fair and hardly every fails a student. The work you put in is the grade you will get .
I'm glad I took Rod for this class, no doubt the best professor for this course. He tries to take the class much further than writing skills and goes into much deeper issues. The effort put forth reflects in the grade, so as long as you use the resources he provides, you will do well. He is a great person in general and I'll miss this class.
Professor Sachs is a great teacher. He insists on connecting with the class and with each student individually. His lect. &assign. stimulate creative and collaborative thinking. The assingn. are not a breeze because they require you to write about challenging topics. That being said, he is very helpful in the writing process. TAKE HIS CLASS
If you are trying to choose between this professor and another one, you better choose this one.
Rod is an awesome professor. He really tries to connects with all of us and truly cares. When looking over our essays he gives great feedback not like other professors who spend a second reading it. I wish I could have also taken him for 1302. Take his class!
Professor Sachs is a great person. Lectures flew by. He uses a unique approach in his teachings. He expects good work A's do not come easy. He will make you a better writer.
This class is not your regular class where a professor stands in front of you and lectures for the entire class period. Its more of a team effort and self pace course. The professor is really understanding to student's situations and how they learn. I will say that you will learn more than just english but also life lessons.
Rod is a great teacher/person/awesome guy and an excellent English professor. Take his class. He will get personal with you and he actually cares about everyone in his class. You will learn a lot more than English!
Take Rod, he's an awesome person ,he is not your typical professor he truly cares about his students and their grades. In this class you'll learn not only to write better but life lessons as well. I love this class ! I honestly wish I could take it over and over again.
I strongly recommend you guy to take his class. the way he teach his class is different from other so in the end you will learn more than just english
Rod is an awesome professor, 1302 was such a great experience. He is not your average careless professor that lectures all the time, class is full of laughs! you wont have this much fun with any other professor, Rod will create an awesome environment inside the classroom, I even trust him with personal things and you get to learn english!
He's probably the best professor I have seen ever. There's a duality of psychology and sociology in his teaching which is imbricated with English. He makes the academic setting more dialogic and friendly. I can't stress enough on how much time I spent in his office during his office hours, really helping! Gotta take him or you're making a mistake!
I advise anyone to take Rod. The classroom atmosphere is dialogic , everyone has a voice! In his teaching style he uses a duality of philosophy and life examples , which is imbricated with English , to help make his students not only better writers, but better as an individual. I could come in this class without feeling judged. TAKE THIS CLASS.
Rod is a great professor. He will give you a different perspective of the world in his teachings. He brings in the COlonial Matrix of Power and Paulo Freire as continual dialogic encounters to your work. He will show you how to imbricate your previous work (IP, MI) to bring a duality to your final Research Position Paper.
He's a good teacher. Really cool. I was just bored taking this class. I rather just learn how to write the material and leave. With prof Sachs you're going to be learning about stuff not that important to the essay haha, but overall he's a good teacher
Great teacher who cares not only about the students but there problems as well. It is incredibly rare to find a teacher this Amazing.
Rod's class literally changed my life. I feel bad for people who DON'T have him as a professor.
I am so lucky to have him as my professor! he is the best so far! he is hilarious and the class is so fun because all students get involved and discuss together. Also his lecture is awesome and very helpful. He makes sure students understand clearly and makes the conference for each student. if you work hard and participate, you will get A
He is one of the best professors I've ever taken in my life. He likes to have class discussion about various topics other than just having typical boring lectures. Sometimes his class is more like a philosophy class but it is so interesting. I strongly recommend taking him if you want to expand your knowledge about life and yourself.
Great teacher overall! Enjoyed every second of class and he is very helpful with his assignments.
I recommend this english class. Uniqueinteresting class, not typical english class. Engaging yet still learn how to be a good writer.
Highly recommended for students who are looking for more from a class than the usual "Here's how to write, and here's how to pass my class" *end of the semester* "Who are you?" Rod truly cares about the success of each of his students (if they put forth the careconcern as well) and is interested in catching up with them when the class is over
Rod is a great professor and person. He is always willing to answer questions whether in person or on email. He is very clear about the grading criteria for the 1301 essays, which helps you make a good grade. You WILL have to work for an A, but it is by no means hard to get. Overall a great guy and a good professor.
This is not your typical English class where the professor lectures, and you take rigorous notes. Rod leads fascinating discussions where you are encouraged to present your perspective on various topics. I actually look forward to coming to class everyday. It also helps that Rod is hilarious and values all his student. Take this class.
Professor Sachs is one of the best English professors at UTA. He is absolutely amazing. He is always very helpful and cares so much about his students. I highly recommend taking his class, you won't regret it!
Rod Sachs is the best professor, his way of teaching is one of a kind. He teaches in a way of various aspects, he shows your abilities of writing that you have never know. Personally I hated English until I was introduced to Sachss ENGL 1301 class. He has made me a better writer and I will highly recommend him to anyone. Not your average Professor
Rod is a great teacher with a really powerful message for all of his students. He explains the assignments thoroughly and will always help if you ask him. He's an all around cool guy and I would definitely take him again!
By far the worst prof- Just kidding! Sachs was the only professor who made my first semester feel meaningful. It is not your traditional classroom setting and the whole experience was outside of the box! If you are open to new ideas and want to add an interesting twist to your English courses, enroll in his class.-Gives Great Constructive Feedback
I am not an English person whatsoever but Rod's class is the best experience I have ever had in an English course. He incorporates English and philosophy in such an awesome way. He is very clear as to what he wants in an essay and takes class time to explain each of the three to you. Amazing teacher!!! You have work in order to get an A.
Good professor, always there if you need something and is extremely spontaneous. Wants to teach and loves doing it, also easy class show up to class and participate and yall pass.
Rod is one of the very few English professors who genuinely cares about his students. He will go out of his way to help people get the highest grades possible in his course and is very supportive. Very interactive class, you will enjoy every second of his class! Best professor I've taken!
Great teacher. Engages the whole class and keeps them involved. Even if you are not an English major, Rod is the man to take
**Everything Is Connected** Rod Sachs is by far the best professor I have ever had the pleasure of having. He is genuinely helpful and cares about the students. The method of teaching is interesting and demands participation from the students. Truly a beautiful soul.
He is clear with his expectations of the class and the course in general. He's an easy person to talk to, whether its class related or not. He does not talk down upon a student and he's very optimistic and has great outlooks on life. He is not a hard grader, but he doesn't just hand out A's either, you will need to work for it.
Rod is not your typical english teacher. He is very spiritual and makes you think about real world problems. Not for you if you just want a normal class. Easy A however, helps you a lot with essays and wants you to succeed!! Sometimes unnecessary journals but overall easy class! Lets you determine what the class will do that day and deadlines.
It was an adjustment at first, and some of the topics were confusing but I really enjoyed all the class discussions. He really knows what he is talking about even when it doesn't seem like it. His class is different from any other class you will ever take. I recommend him if you're looking for an extraordinary professor to take.
Rod is a wonderful professor , he is always available to help. The only way you will fail is if you do not make an effort and do the work, Rod appreciates effort. I would take him again without a doubt. Be on time and ready to write journals every class.
I would definitely take this class again just to learn more from Professor Rod Sachs. As an international student, I have never been more comfortable in class. He cares more about you understanding the material than the grade, which means if you were off the bridge, he brings you back on with a passing grade.
Rod, call him Rod first of all, is a very wise, confident intellectual. The topics and key points that were emphasized were very much CONNECTED to the daily life of your average Joe. Attendance is not mandatory, however, if you'd like to actually learn something and have your mind boggled out of position, you would prefer being present.
Rod, is an amazing professor who is very inspirational. He is very down to earth and understanding. He has a good relationship with his students. One of the easiest classes I have taken here at UTA. I would Definitely take him again if I could!!
This teacher provides a immense new perspective on the way to look at life and the things we encounter in everyday activities. His great work allows the students to open their mind to constructive criticism and new forms of creativity that are great to learn about for your future academic career. WOULD RETAKE CLASS.
Very funny and cool guy. Hard grader but if u go to class it will be fine. He is very out going and his class experience is just amazing.
Rod is an amazing guy and a proffesor. He is very knowledgeable and very smart. He is very clear with instructions. Rof is very out going and funny. His classes experience is just amazing
Rod is a great guy and will make you a better writer. He gives you insight into ideas you may not have thought of before. This class will make you into a more conscientious person and notice things you haven't before. I definitely recommend rod to anyone for a course!
Very laid back and cares for his students. You do a lot of journals so mack sure you have it everyday. Also, keep an open mind in his class. He presents you with a lot of ideas from a point of view that most don't see from. All in all, a wonderful and enjoyable class.
Rod is a kind man with a great open-minded attitude. Expect to write because of the course, but he wont make you feel like you're forced to.
Rod is a great professor! It was an experience of a lifetime. His class is worth taking. You will get an A if you do your work. He is really there for you. An understanding professor. He introduces many new ideas. You will never be bored in his class.
Rod Sachs is an unorthodox professor. He teaches the material and grades based on your performance in the subject, of course, but the personal flare and angle of the class is absolutely unforgettable. He is a friend to all students, but in a respectable manner. He will devote all the time in the world to helping YOU, and keep class EXCITING.
Rod is an instructor you will not forget soon. He has a different take on the world and is readily available to hear your own as well. Rod is always there for his students and makes it very clear he cares about each individual and that's what sets him apart for me. English class with Rod is more than English class.
He goes out of his way to help students make the best out of the class. He helped us bond and learn at the same time, the friendships created here are most likely going to last for a long time, but most importantly Rod makes himself available to us for ANYTHING. Very positive and inspirational, definitely made me a better writer and person.
Rod's way of teaching is very remarkable and different from conventional English classes. Assignments are arduous but if you follow instructions you will definitely improve your academic writing and will get a good grade! Be open minded to see aspects of life in a different way and enjoy the ride!.
He goes by 1st name only. Possibly best teacher at UTA. Don't need the book he provides everything online. DO NOT SKIP CLASS OR YOU WILL NOT PASS! He's there for his students tho an will try everything he can to help you pass if youre struggling but you have to do all the work. I recommend him for all students. Cool guy, awesome teacher, worth it!
I love Rod ^.^ He's kind of scary at first, but he just expects a lot out of his students. There is outside reading, but it isn't very long and the participation grade that is a huge chunk of the grade is extremely easy to get if you attend class. He breaks down every paper assignment really well and look at him, he's adorable !
I came into this class a Christian and a vegan. Through this course, I have eaten meat 4 times, I have questioned my entire belief system, and have never been so terrified of a professor. Coming out of this class, my beliefs are solid. This man is responsible for making me an individual. I am honored to have taken his class.
I loved this class professor Sachs is evolutionary in the way he teaches the class. Opening minds in all different kinds of ways I almost forgot that it was actually English class half the time. He helps you become to writer you are within and opens your mind to different ideas
Rod's way of teaching is definitely out of the ordinary but made an impact on my way writing and looking at the world. He challenged my way of thinking without disrespecting my beliefs and is very mindful of his students. He doesn't sugarcoat anything and encouraged me to be more open-minded.
The environment of the class is very welcoming and Rod is open to new ideas and concepts. Rod gives very good feedback and allows you to fix essays for a better grade. His lectures are very inspirational and he makes you want to become more involved in your community.
In this class, you're going to pick a social issue that impacts your life. Then you're going to write about it all semester. Be thinking about that. Pick up a copy of "Pedagogy of the Oppressed" by Paulo Friere. It's not mandatory but chapter 2 will explain Rod's teaching style better than this site. Love Rod and his approachable approach.
Rod teaches in a different manner, he lets students have their input in everything. Great guy
Very funny and pushes your boundaries in what you think you know. Teaches a lot of new information early in the semester, but it's fun and you get a lot out of the information. Rod is also very understanding of conflicts and will work with you to help you pass.
As long as you do your work and you actually try and participate in this class you can make an A. Rod is always willing to help. The book for the course is not mandatory, he does post a copy of the pages we need on blackboard. Save money and don't buy the book.
Rod is probably the best professor I've had thus far. He has a way of beautifully interweaving life, connection, and English rhetoric skills, and he is inspiring and makes you really think! Nonetheless, the course requires hard work, and Rod is a tough grader. However, he does give great feedback and is there for you 100% if you struggle. TAKE HIM!
An eye opening class. Be ready to apply yourself in class and think critically.
Rod is a great professor. Everything that you learn in his class can be applied to life beyond school. The class is very discussion-based and everyone's voice genuinely matters. He cares for his students a lot and will be there for you in and out of the classroom. Don't buy the textbook, because he will post everything online, and don't skip class!
He's easy going as long as you get your work done on time and pay attention to class. if you miss more than 3 classes you'll fall behind and fail, so be prepared to be there everyday. he does give extra credit at the end of the semester.
Rod's class helped me become a better write. He is a great professor. He does require you to attend class, but honestly I don't know why you would want to skip his class. His lectures are very interesting and different. Taking his class was a great experience. I would definitely recommend his class and, with no doubt, take him again.
I took Rod for 1301 and had another amazing semester! Even through his class is tough you gain so much from it. His unorthodox way of teaching is fantastic and has helped make me a better thinker and writer. The papers are a pain but he gives great feedback and is always there to help! Best English class I have ever had.
If you're looking for an inspirational and interesting academic experience I highly recommend you take Prof. Sachs. I really enjoyed how Prof. Sachs incorporated life lessons in our academic exercises. You'll never have a boring day in English 1302 with Prof. Sachs. Another thing I like about this class is how willing Prof. Sachs is to help .
He's a great professor actually engage in connecting with his students and give a lot of time to get your work done. Tough class but you will learn a lot more then you expected. Helped me go above and beyond with writing. Aslo funny and layed back.
Rod is a very effective instructor that goes above and beyond the call of the ordinary English professor. He was able to take this course and make it enjoyable by creating an engaging atmosphere each lecture. This course and you will hopefully allow you to trade your opinions for convictions.
Rod is an awesome professor, person and life coach. He really cares for all students and their well-being. His lectures are the most interesting I have ever be apart of and I wish I had more time to listen. There is no need to go into detail about his classes, but understand if you do not take Rod you are missing out on something great.
This is my second semester taking Rod and I can't say there has been another professor who has impacted me as much as he has. Outstanding professor. Rod will make you enjoy going to class. It is NOT an easy A. Put in work, participate, and have fun in his class. You will not regret it.
Take this class. Rod is by far the most inspirational teacher I have ever had. Amidst the craziness of 12 other credit hours, Rods class was a breath of fresh air. He genuinely cares about each of his students and it's clearly evident in how available he makes himself for conferences and meeting hours. It's not an easy A but its worth the effort.
Amazing professor. I definitely recommend him. As others have said, the class is not easy. He is very clear about his grading criteria. I actually liked attending class and felt that he is the type of professor that encourages students to participate in discussions without making you feel awkward. Fun class. Great professor!!!
Super nice and will help you bring your grade up BUTTTTTTT if your not really into the poetry then THIS IS NOT A CLASS FOR YOU! Trust me!!!!
The most incredible class I have ever taken. Super passionate about what he's teaching and brings you to another level of thinking. I was inspired to find my passion and integrate it into what I am studying. YOU WILL NEVER HAVE ANOTHER PROFESSOR LIKE THIS AGAIN. If you're willing to be inspired, change your way of thinking, and work take this class
Rod (he lets you call him by his first name) is extremely helpful in class. He will change your perspective on academia while assisting you in becoming a better college writer. Classes are very meditative (yes we meditated outside a lot) and filled with cool music. He follows the standard 1302 curriculum but makes life a little easier on you.
Rod is a more than a professor, he talks about life and helps you open your mind. He will have you wanting to go to his class. The essays may be long, but he is very helpful and if you attend class and listen to his suggestions, you will get through the course with an A. I've never had a professor like Rod, everyone should experience his class.
Rod Sachs is one of the best professor i've ever had a chance to take. He truly cares for each student. In everything he teaches, it always connects it back to the nature of life & it's more than just english. Although you have to have your work done in order to pass, he takes the time to explain any confusion you have to the best of his ability.
Great professor. Very engaging and inspirational. There's 4 papers due but after explanation and examples given in class very easy. He's understanding and you can talk to him about anything. The class is not easy but it is worth it. I am not a native English speaker nor do I like English but he made the class fun and passable.
Rod is easily the best professor I have ever had. He's becomes more than a professor. He's a friend, a person who inspires. The work is expected, and the papers are long but you get to chose the topic. He is so kind and is lenient with papers and due dates. TAKE THIS CLASS OR YOUR A MADMAN. You learn so much about the correct way to write. Enjoy.
Rod Sachs is more than just a professor, throughout the semester he gains further respect from his students and is there for you if you're having personal problems. Although this class is tough, he is flexible with deadlines and is inspirational. I actually felt my writing improve and would definitely take his class again.
Different from most professors. He is really nice, and wants you to do well. He doesn't always teach the normal way
Rod provides materials you need on BB and is happy to help you with whatever you need. He is very understanding if you go and talk to him. He also loves when students participate. He is one interesting and inspirational professor, but that doesn't mean his class is easy to pass. Make sure you attend class for info and for his insightful lectures.
Although his class does require effort, it is definitely worthwhile. I learned a lot about things I never even bothered to think about before. He made me step out of my comfort zone and look at ideas from different perspectives. Rod is understanding if things come up and you won't be able to make it to class or turn things in on time.
Great professor i strongly suggest taking him. He is very helpful and gives a lot of great feedback. You will learn more than just english in in his class its pretty amazing!
This was one of my favorite classes of my college career so far. He was very clear about what he wanted in the papers and the pace of the class is up to you. He also taught some very interesting things that were not necessarily about English but were very helpful for everyday life. I highly suggest taking his class if you do not mind to work.
Participation is a huge factor so going to class is helpful. Despite his different teaching methods that some may not like, Rod Sachs was possibly the teacher I have ever had. I greatly appreciate his originality and a unusualness. It was something new and fresh and highly recommend taking for the factor of life changing.
Although I am a Freshmen, I can safely say that he is one of my favorite professors here at UTA. His lectures are out of this world. He finds a correlation for almost every aspect of life. He teaches you about life as a whole and gives incredible feedback on improving your papers. However, do not think of his class lightly because his class is hard
Most chill professor you will ever have. Although he has a very unorthodox way of teaching you will enjoy the class. He does not give much homework either. Make sure you show up to class! Even if you're not prepared. All in all, great professor to take.
He's a great professor but the course is not the easiest. There are no tests but instead there are three essays that are a little long. If you ever need any help, he will always be there for you. Attendance is not mandatory however it is highly recommended.
Favorite class I've taken! It isn't easy and you have to come to class and participate but you get a lot out of the course. Not only did I learn how to write a college paper but I learned a lot about the world and myself. Rod is not like any professor I've had, he cares about his students and understanding if you let him know what is going on.
This was one of the most enjoyable classes I've taken so far. In addition to writing skills, you gain such an in depth broad perspective of life. Some people can't handle his teaching methods, but if you choose to pull through you won't regret it
Rod cares about all of his students. He is attentive to all students, and will be there to help students with their writing outside of class. He requires attendance, so be sure you make it to class. We ended the class with a more relaxed tone. He taught more than just English in this class, but he challenges you to develop your critical thinking.
If you don't want to be challenged to think critically and don't like to participate, then you shouldn't take Rod's class. If you do decide to take his class, take advantage of all the extra opportunities that he presents to you because they will change your perspective on life and will allow you to learn more about yourself as well in the process.
Rod has to be one of the best professors here at UTA. Do not expect an easy A, participation is a must and you will be picked periodically to participate. Rod's teaching isn't necessarily "by the book" nonetheless I do prefer his approach.
He is a amazing professor so inspirational and kind. He cares for every single one of his students, he will not let you fail. He gives great feedback on your papers. He is a hilarious, he is there for you, he has amazing lectures, and I would LOVE to take his class again.
My favorite class this semester. He doesn't teach how the school recommends, he does his own thing which is very effective. He cares for his students & was a friend to all of us. He taught us skills to calm ourselves ex. meditating. He showed us other ways to view life. We wrote 4 papers & he is a easy grader. SO glad I stayed. Picky with journals
Easily the funnest class I had all semester (as an engineer). U can miss up to 4 classes, after that u can't make an A. But class is fun so u might not even want to skip. Assigns 4 essays and is very lenient with due dates, will even allow u to redo ur paper to get a better grade. If u want an A he'll show u how to get it. -An American Dreamer
Great teacher and really works with you if you talk to hem.
He will go by his first name, Rod. The class is very relaxed, and a little eccentric, in nature. We meditated during several class periods. He grades in relation to your personal skills as a student, not against the rest of the class. As a summer course, he gave lots of homework to compensate for the shorter semester.
Rod is the red pill of UTA English. You can take his class and genuinely question and examine the world and the systems you believe in; or you can take a different professor, keep the status quo, and carry out the usual mechanics of a college English class.
Rod is a great professor. You cannot tell by his appearance but he knows his stuff. He is unassuming to say the least.
He is accessible outside the class all through the week. His lectures are amazing and fun. Although he makes one work hard for the grade but it is totally worth it. Above all, his lectures are lessons one would hold on to for life. He enables dialogue in class and gels with each and every student like a friend. He gives chance to make up. Take him!
As an English learner the class was hard but enjoyable, I dedicated a lot of my time to the class, and rod dedicated a lot of his time for me to be able to get an A. He tried to make you understand what you are doing in class and is always telling you what you need to do to get a good grade. He is great at teaching and a wonderful person
Fantastic professor! Very interactive and great class discussions. He has a very different style of teaching which I found to be very inspirational and helpful in learning to think more critically. He will never judge you if you ever disagree or have a different belief or perspective on something, he just wants to ask why and learn from you.
rod is the professor who learns *with* you. His methods are not conventional but they are effective. He is a kind soul with a clear passion for teaching. All he asks is that you actually put in the effort and show that you've adhered to the guidelines. He is a fair and just professor. DO NOT MISTAKE HIS KINDNESS FOR WEAKNESS.
Rod, as he would like you to call him and not professor, is one of the most amazing professor I have ever had. He just wants you to understand the concept and has his own way to do it. He takes the time to talk with you about your work and will always tells you the truth about it. Overall, he is a great professor
I never thought that English class would be such a inspirational class. Rod is more of a best buddy than a teacher. I never missed a class. Each class was very interesting and there's a never a thing to worry about it. Nothing won't disappoint him. He loves you unconditionally and respect each of your opinion. Take him!
This class is very interesting and makes you think. To get a good grade and pass, you will have to work for it and participate. Overall, he is one of my favorite professors and I would take him again. Must take this class!
You mush take Rod's class at lease once. He is a great professor. he is not only teach you how to pass the class, also teach you how to write on your own style! in his class, all classmates can discuss the news and the issues in recent days. Do not missed his class! enroll as fast as you can, the class is hot!!!!!
Really good dude.
He is pretty cool but you have to make an effort to pass his class. Read some cool stuff, think about things differently.
By far one of the best professors I have ever had. Rod is more of a friend rather than a professor, he really cares about his students. 4 major papers over a semester long research topic and journal entries make up your grade. Lots of interesting group discussions that really change the way you look at life. Overall definitely recommend taking him!
If you really want to learn about the world around you and learn how to incoporate that into scholarly papers take Sachs. Amazing individual really enjoyed him during the semester, learned a lot about myself, others and our world
What a class! Changed my perspective on teaching. Amazing dude ! I learned a lot in this class both in-class and out of class. He is inspirational and you will enjoy this class. This class will challenge you to think and put an extra effort in college and life. He is the best professor I have ever had!
Rod is an awesome professor and will blow your mind open if that is what you came to college for. He explores unethical issues and takes a progressive approach to education that I loved. Going to class was fun and beneficial. HE is very lenient and will work with you if you work with him. Take this class. You will not be upset!
Rod will treat you not a student but as a friend. He cares about your wellbeing. Rod will not only teach you how to do the major papers but also teach you how to care about others who live outside of your life.
Rod is one of the most incredible professors I have ever gotten the privilege of having. What was so refreshing about the class is that Rod is more of a friend than a teacher. His lectures were meaningful and opened my eyes to the world around me. The papers were tough, but if you work hard, you'll do great in his class. HIGHLY recommend.
In-class discussion was interesting and informative, but beware--if you are disagree with any of his beliefs (or are conservative/Christian), prepare for serious opposition. He is very vocal about his dislike of heterosexual, white males (which is ironic because he is one), but is caring and easy to speak to. Just be polite in your confrontation.
The most difficult part was to start writing the papers, but nothing was too over the top. There's journals that students write for participation points which go off of things outside of rhetoric and still relates to what each term paper needs. Overall, this class was enjoyable and easy to get through. Plus students have a say in paper deadlines.
Rod is definitely one of my favorite professors. He is personable and attentive to the needs of each student and really cares about your success in the class. You'll definitely have to work hard on the assignments and participate but it will pay off ! Just be willing to put yourself out there and you'll truly learn a lot.
Rod is a cool, down-to-earth guy who loves all people. The class was a little ambiguous, a bit ill-defined, and untraditional at times, but it was a good class to share and to ask questions about literally anything. Discussions were common. Reggae and instrumental music were listened to in many classes. Nothing was off-limits as his class was a safe space for everyone, regardless of position. Participation wasn't mandatory, but it was encouraged and welcomed. Four absences and you're dropped a letter grade. Journals and making connections are important in this class, and paper due dates are adjustable (4 major papers). He will work with you on due dates if needed. Overall, great class. Funny, insightful, and a nice break from paper heavy classes.
Be ready to explore some different important aspect of life. True that education is very important, but this is not the only thing that matters in life
He teaches so leisurely and at a nice, easy pace. He is extremely down to earth and an amazing teacher. He is very lenient, but don't take advantage of him.
He's the best teacher I've ever had. I had always been uncomfortable talking to teachers outside of class, but he works hard to create an accepting classroom. He treats you like someone he can learn from instead of just another one of his students. You will do more work in this class compared to a normal english1302, but it's worth it.
Rod is the man. Don't expect it to be an easy a although an a is easily attainable with just a fair amount of work. Rod is willing to help you out with whatever problems you may have as long as you show him that you actually care.
Professor Rod has a very different way of conducting his class. He wants you to feel relaxed and chill but then he will scare the life out of you with all the assignments and works he is going to give for the semester. But be advised, it's his way of scaring away the weak. His class is engaging and mind opening. Just be ready to put some effort!
Very untraditional but in a good way, will make u question a lot of major concepts in life
He does a great job of making everyone feel included each lecture and makes sure he gets to know everyone in the class. You are allowed to miss a certain number of days before you get dropped a letter grade.
Great guy, willing to make deadlines flexible but ONLY if you respect him and keep coming to class. Best professor/teacher I've ever had, treats you like a person and not just a student so he's always willing to listen and the classroom is a safe space. Discussions and lectures are AMAZING and make the class fun.
Rod (as he likes to be called), offers a whole new dynamic on teaching, trying to be as much a student as a teacher. His goal isn't to give you a grade, but to improve your writing . He's very understanding but DO NOT take his kindness for weakness.
Rod helps his students the whole way through. If I ever felt loss on any of the papers (4 in total), he would guide me in doing my best. He explains the prompts thoroughly, and is very accessible outside of class. He teaches you to look at everything in a different perspective! Be ready to participate!!
Rod is definitely a little... unorthodox, but he is a fantastic teacher and I would 100% recommend this class. He adjusts his teaching style, deadlines, and lectures for every section to meet the needs of that class. Rod is really great to work with and puts a lot of effort into helping students that are struggling or need a little help.
Class was easy, a lot of essay to write but he's very flexible with turn in dates. He even lets you redo your papers for a better grade. very energetic.
Rod is one of the best professors I have had. He gives amazing feedback on essays, and breaks down every single one of the four papers that are assigned during the semester. His lectures are extremely interesting. If you need to take an English class, this is definitely the professor to take.
Proffesor Sachs really cares about his students and gives great feedback on every class assignment! One of the best Professors at UTA!
Overall, he is a good man. He takes his time in explaining the prompt to the students. If you have questions ask him, he will respond every time to give you the feedback you need. He really cares about his students and doesn't want anyone to feel left out in the class or on assignments.
You will not regret taking "Rod", for Engl 1302! He's extremely inspirational, kind, and "woke". Offers viewpoints that truly open up your mind. Four Essays (due dates are negotiable), and 4 absences before you go down a letter grade. Always available for help, and truly cares about his students. Wish I could take 1302 again! He's gr8
He gives great feedback on every essay and explains the prompts in a way that is easy to understand.
Rod is the most amazing professor ever. Honestly, I learnt how to write college papers from him. I wish I had him for 1301 as well. He is really caring about his student's progress as well.
Not your run-in-the-mill english class. Class weirdness aside while regular english classes blandly explain prompts, Rod will thourghly go through the prompt and will even outline how the essay should be written. You start with an A and as long as you do the essays and follow his feedback you'll do fine.
Rod is definitely a one of a kind professor. He is weird and entertaining, as is the subject matter covered in class. The topics covered are heavy, however, and if you are looking for an English class that requires minimal thought. If you are looking for a challenge and an experience likely to change your life in some way, I fully recommend this.
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!!!! This professor is extremely understanding and he's always open to second chances if you don't make the grade you desire. The course consists of 4 essays and there are no tests or pop quizzes.
Rod gives great feedback to students and plans conferences for his students. He gives a lot of his time for his students. He is extremely reasonable and tries his hardest to help his fellow students. Rod believes in second chances, but communication is necessary. Most importantly, Rod allows his students to find a writing style that fits them.
Definitely one of the professors that actually care about your academic experience. He makes it clear day one that you are more than just a student. He makes sure that his classroom is a safe and equal space. He gives good feedback on papers and is somewhat lenient with due dates. I highly recommend him if you want an atypical 1302 experience.
Rod is amazing, if I could I'd retake his class over and over. If you're looking for a great experience in english and someone who will actually care about you, he's the guy. Rod challenges your mind and I think that was my favorite thing about his class. He will be missed!
Best teacher I have had during my time here at UTA. I would definitely take his class again. Very helpful when it comes to not understanding the concept. I enjoyed his class all the time, lectures were not boring, time would pass by quick. It was a good time for sure.
Great professor. Very accessible when needed and thoroughly explains the assignments. He also assigns some readings that are interesting and not too long. He creates an atmosphere where you are comfortable as well as makes learning enjoyable.
Rod was an excellent teacher. Approaches teaching rhetoric in a refreshing innovative way. Really only 4 papers for the whole semester spread apart so crunching is easily avoidable. He offers detailed feedback for these papers as well and allows you to make revisions to replace your grade if you wish. He respects strong class participation. A+
Super understanding. Lectures are engaging and he really helps you understand the assignment prompts for the essays. He gives great feedback during individual conferences. Gives you a real hippie vibe but it's so cool. Rod is an incredible professor. Definitely would take his class again if I could.
Rod's a great guy, just don't slack off.
He's very great. It's the first time I feel excited to go to his class. He showed us what English really is. He's always there to help you. He's more than your professor he's your friend. He's the best.
Rod Sachs is probably one of the best professors I have had at UTA my freshman year. He is extremely helpful and gives extremely good feedback. My only suggestion would be to not procrastinate until the last minute to do the work (like most classes obviously).
