Rick explains to a point of exhaustion. He spends more time on the wrong way to do things than the correct method. He makes numerous mistakes when doing problems on the board. His tests are full of the problems that trip up people and not much inbetween. The tests are frustrating. I'm sure he is good for someone out there it just wasn't me.
Easy A class. Just do your HW,then you will be OK! He is very nice guy!!!
Easy A class.
he's the easiest math teacher i've ever had in my entire life. he doesn't care if you're in class or not so do what i did: go to class every day to take the quiz or what not and then leave when he begins the lecture. he doesn't take attendance, he's a boring teacher, and he's not good at explaining ANYTHING. stats is an easy class so self-study :)
does not take roll. if you want to pass, then go to class. homeowrk never gets checked. only come to class when there is a quiz. put this last on your choices tho. very slow, makes math harder than it truly is. lingling !!!!!
He's an okay teacher. He sorta "Tricks" you on the tests sometimes, if you know what I mean. He was often forgetful and sometimes our 10 minute breaks lasted for 30 minutes. He's a nice guy, doesn't take attendance. Just make sure you take his quizzes.
this teacher? forget it. never done what he said. he told us he will post out final on Monday, but this is friday now. what can I say.....just wait!
Easy if you go to classes and do the homework (even though it's not collected). You don't have to attend classes, but your grade is based on quizzes and testes. If you do bad on that, do good on the final and he'll take that score. I haven't received my grade yet and it's already near my next quarter. A little heads up on that.
I like his class so much. He is a good teacher.Ohhhhhh, he care about your idea.I highly recommend him to you ,guys!!!!!!!
He is a good and easy teacher. If you work on all the homework that he provided, you will be able to do the tests with no problem. DOES ANYONE KNOW HIS EMAIL ADDRESS BY ANY CHANCE?
Extremly easy teacher compared to the rest of the professors here at De Anza. Go to class everday and ask questions. Make sure you visit him during his office hours because sometimes he gives you test answers. Take hime for statistics, I got a "A', because I always asked questions.good luck
Easy test :) No need to buy the text book acually, it wastes my money:(
easy stats teacher, lectures are clear and comprehensive, hw everyday BUT does not check it. i didnt really use the textbk, because it didnt help much. just attend class and take notes and you're good to go, SERIOUSLY. pretty good overall eventhough he SLACKS like crazy. i asked him to email me the reviews/my test scores and he NEVER did it... -_-
He is really an easy Stat teacher. The exams questions are from class examples he gives out. Just attend class and you will do well even though attendance is not mandatory.
He's a really nice guy who will help you. He gives review sheets before a Exam. Also, if you aren't that good in math he's the teacher you should take. He cares and understands. VERY NICE Teacher:)
very difficult to understand, he talks almost as if he expects you to know stats already!!! hard exams, hw/attendance not mandatory but if you want to pass this class then you should. hw did not help with exams though, completely different. we had 5 quizzes, 3 midterms (lowest one dropped), and one super hard conmprehensive final. do not recommend!
I disagree with the comment below. He's the easiest teacher at DA. I finished Math2B last year and only took Math10 for fun. I didn't even go to class after the 1st test and only read the book before tests and final. Got more than 90% every test. Got A after all. (He gives credit if you can show how to get the answer from the graphing calculator)
I took math 210 with him got a B, then took 212 and got an A. He is such a great teacher and is willing to go over every single question you have. He teaches in baby steps which is what alot of people need. He rarely gives quizzes! HW is a must if you want to practice what you learned, does not collect. Curves all tests, drops lowest. BEST TEACHER!
Mr Taylor is a super nice teacher. I am TOTALLY not a math person, but he teaches in baby steps which is perfect for me. He also answers all of my questions in class/office hours. Super helpful, and it is an easy class if you attend daily, do all his homework, and revise a bit. Recommend!
He isnt fair and he enables students to be lazy I am bitter with the fact that I was on the waitlist for this quarter and many students didnt show up the 2day and he still had the nerve to tell me that he will not drop anyone if they didnt show up obviously he is unaware that there is students out there that are committed that wont miss the 2nd day
Do ALL the homework, understand the material, and you will get an A. If you can do the practice sheets he gives, you can do the test. He never tricks you, and tends to grade easy on tests anyway. Plus, he drops one test, and often curves the others. I hate math, and aced this class. No project, no collected homework. Awesome class.
I'm very, very bad at math, but thanks to this class, I got an A in statistics and kept the 3.9 I was so terrified of losing. It's not an easy A; you have to do the work. I probably did most of the problems in the book to prepare...but if you can do the practice test you can do the exam. Also, he tends to grade easy and he drops one score.
He goes fast, and his hand writing isn't very neat, but he is nice, helpfull during his office hours, which I only went to once, and most importantly his class is easy. The problems in the book seemed a little hard at times, but his tests were a pushover. Also the book we had to buy for the class was only 13 dollars. Take this class w/ this prof.
I am a computer science major and I enjoy math but I have to a lot of personal effort into understanding the professors for the most part. Taylor is very easy to understand, uses great analogies to clarify his points, and goes over the idea with numerous examples. I would highly recommend!
He is a nice guy but his lectures aren't clear. Its very hard to understand him if you don't have basic knowledge of the subject he's teaching. I think I'm going to fail :'(
He beaely teachs you anything in any of his class. Basicly he regard himself as a tutor who just need to answer students questions from home work and copy some examples from our text book. And his hand writing is too bad to mintain a good notes. All you have to do is to copy the homework he signed and study by yourself.
Roderic is an excellent teacher, he addresses all questions and provides multiple examples to ensure understanding. He is always readily available and willing to spend time tutoring during his office hours. If homework he assigns is completed, there should be no issue receiving an A in his class. Highly recommend.
I don't know who gave that lousy review, but Professor Taylor is an excellent teacher. His homework isn't mandatory, but he expects you to complete it. That's why a lot of students fail his class because they have little knowledge/practice prior to the tests. His explanations are VERY thorough, to the point of excessive. Recommended.
Professor Taylor is great! He's very helpful and clear and really cares about making sure students understand the concepts discussed. If you do the hw you'll do well on the tests. Take him.
Really nice and easy teacher. Teaches slow to avoid losing students. Does variety of examples and while does hard problems says he would never give these on exams and if he did only for extra credit. Barely first 4 weeks and really enjoying class. Assigns homework and reviews questions next day. 4 tests(with final) each 25%. Final can be 75% if bes
He's a really nice guy but he's pretty unorganized. Got our latest midterms the day before our next midterm. Homework isn't mandatory. He goes over the homework, but the homework is a little more challenging than the stuff he lectures about.
Great teacher! Once you understand the concepts, its very easy. Prepares you very well for the tests with the review sheets. Aced it and highly recommend!
Prof. Taylor is a pretty nice guy. He really takes the time to make sure we understand the concepts and whatnot, but sometimes, takes too much time, using up an entire class period to go over homework. Tests are pretty straightforward, no tricky stuff. Homework not mandatory. 3 midterms, 1 final, each 25% of your grade.
This professor is very clear and thorough. He's extremely open to answering questions, going over difficult homework problems, and clarifying concepts. He's slow to return exams but otherwise he's a very nice person and a good teacher.
I do not recommend this teacher. He is strict and not helpful. There is a lot of homework and he does not teach properly. He is easily distracted and has unreadable hand writing.
Good teacher. Lectures are helpful and thorough, but the material is difficult to understand. He does what he needs to and lets students ask questions before he begins his lectures. So it is up to you to put the expected effort. Falling behind by not practicing the optional assigned homework enough and/or ditching will lead to failing his class.
It's not an easy A class, you have to learn by yourself at home and do the homework. If you really want to learn something, don't take him! He finished the topic earlier and got nothing to teach anymore but he wouldn't dismiss the students. Awkwardly standing in the front scratching his head while watching all the students leave the class
super easy teacher. i took his class in winter quater starting at 7:30am. And 8 more people added his class. He's super easy teacher. I got A easily .He's so nice and helpful. I highly recommend him???
he is the kindest math professor in deanza, since i chose a tough one before, when i take his class, i always sleep nvr pay attention, nevertheless, i got full score in both mid terms. also, u dont even need to do ur hw
He is a great teacher. I highly recommend him.
Very glad to start a day on 7:30 with him
He assigns homework and doesn't collect it making you pass his class. He gives you two midterms and basically one quiz in the beginning of the quarter but only calculates your two midterms...do not take him! He doesn't really help you out, and isn't clear at all!
Professor Taylor is a kind teacher. soft demeanor, he only has 3 tests, each one worth 30% of your grade, and homework is from the book and not mandatory
GOOD TEACHER, He always help you with the problem. TAKE THIS CLASS!!
He is a decent teacher, he needs to check his work more while doing the problems. He makes at least 3-4 mistakes during a lecture and sometimes you need to tell him his mistake. He also doesn't listen to students much when they ask questions. But he is a good teacher, I do recommend him. Just be prepared that his notes are not 100% correct.
Knows how to lecture well, but the class itself can be tough, so your success is completely based on your work ethic. Beware, he never replied to my emails, so I had to meet him during office hours.
Nice, helpful, clear lecture but sometimes he makes mistakes in his calculation, just tell him when you notice it. HW is not mandatory. 4 exams and one final, straight from HW, so don't slack off. Make sure you understand the concepts, know how to do all HW he assigns, then you should do really well in his class.
Straightforward professor! Waking up in early morning and taking his class was fun. What he taught was on his midterm, and he gave lots of tips and midterm review questions before midterms. 4 Midterms + 1 Final. I ended up with 97% and got an A. Highly recommended.
Although professor Taylor goes the lecture really fast, he is willing to help you in his office hour after class. Take his class, you will learn a lot and get a good grade.
Professor Taylor is very intelligent and helpful. I experienced very slow grading from him last quarter, so visit his office hours for immediate feedback. He takes into consideration non-native English speakers when creating tests, and provides a fair grading curve. 3 test and 1 cumulative final, he drops lowest test grade with the final if higher.
He has 4 tests, 3 midterms and 1 final, all of which were open book tests. He also gives review for all the tests before hand which are very similar to the tests themselves. He drops the lowest test from the 3 midterms and replaces it with the final grade %. He goes very slow and detailed making it great for slow learners.
3 mid-term exams, 1 final. His class is very clear, easy, and helpful. Do homework, and do the review for the tests, then you will get A+ in all tests. All of his reviews are similar to the tests. I would take his class again for the next level.
4 midterms drop 2+ 1 final boring lecture and always making mistakes. but he goes through every step so if youre having trouble selflearning, go to class and youll be fine
Taylor is good in some ways, but not a decent teacher at some points. I had his math 1B during summer. his lecture is ok, clear but his handwriting is super messy plus he makes million mistakes when solves the problems in class. You have to know that his lecture notes are NOT all correct. Tests are not too many and those are getting harder.
He is very clear with what he wants from the student. Sometimes he would go over a problem repeatedly to help everyone who didn't get the question the first time. He goes through a lot of examples during class. Also, the review sheets really help and gives them before each exam. He sends them out pretty late though. Not really an "Easy A"
Mr. Taylor is an exceptional professor for taking discrete math. I have some advise for you guys if you war planning to take the course, and that is to make sure you do all the homework he assigns (don't fall behind it compounds on itself) and be sure to take stretches during the course, sometimes the lectures get long, but PAY ATTENTION. 810
Professor Taylor is really nice but he is disorganized. His tests get harder and his grading criteria is unclear. You have to study really hard if you want to get a good grade. His final was too long and there wasn't enough time....
my experience was awful. i do not recommend to anyone that does not have a strong background in math. He said to come to his office for extra help, I did three times, and he helped me once for 5 minutes, the next time he didn't have time and another student helped me, third time he was a no show.
This was maybe too easy of a class for discrete math, a subject that is supposed to be very tough at any four year uni. Anyway, he makes a lot of mistakes, drops the lowest 2 of 4 midterms, gives a lot of optional hw, but 90% of the test questions are from the hw, so doing hw easy A.
I didn't mind who I took for Math212 since it was just review for me. While sitting in class the way he taught even confused me sometimes. If this is all new material to you I don't suggest you take his class, but if it's just to refresh your memory you'll be fine! If you do ask questions he does try to clear it up as much as he can!
If you know the material beforehand, he's OK. He frequently writes in the wrong thing, leaving most of the class totally lost on a daily basis. Most days we didn't have time for a new lesson because the class was so confused by the homework from the night before. He's nice, but really out of it. Didn't give back exams in time to study for the final
Ruin your GPA. Unclear. Tough grader. Tests are super hard
Don't take this teacher!!!!! So Hard!!!! You will ruin your GPA Tests are hard!!!! Tough Grader!!! You will regret!!!
Little quirky, but I enjoyed him as a teacher. If you ask questions he always helps with making sure you understand an explains. Not a whole lot of tests(or at least so far) does a pretty good job making sure you feel prepared. If you don't understand, go to his office hours.
He's a decent professor. I like the way he lectures because I am a slow learner and he shows everything step by step.
Was having trouble in class and asked to go over a a couple things before a quiz or midterm and would only do a few so he had time to cover new material that wasn't going be on either exams. He makes you get a workbook which is okay up to the point where you have no other references and have to rely on that. 3 midterms + final, lowest gets dropped
He is a cool guy. If you're a slow learner he's a great teacher. He went to UC Santa Cruz. Go Chesca!!!!!!!!!!!
In all honesty I barely went to class because attendance doesn't count. He is very test heavy but if you mess up on a quiz your midterm will make up for it and if you mess up on your midterm your final will make up for it. I never got below a 98% in his class, just use the book if you're ever confused. It's online btw and free textbooks are A1.
very helpful and kind. drops lowest quiz and midterm. if you get bad scores on quizzes and do better on tests/final you can make them up with highest midterm (or final) score. hw is optional, but do it for practice! encourages to ask questions. posts lecture notes and quiz/test answers on his website. take notes & study well and you'll be fine!
very helpful and kind. drops lowest quiz and midterm. if you get bad scores on quizzes and do better on tests/final you can make them up with highest midterm (or final) score. hw is optional, but do it for practice! encourages to ask questions. posts lecture notes and quiz/test answers on his website. take notes & study well and you'll be fine!
Very good, he is very generous
Every other quarter he switches between homework and no homework. When he doesnt give homework the class is fine but when he does its SO MUCH WORK.
will need to self study as class lectures are close to useless
*teaches the easy stuff* *puts hardest problems ever on exams*
regret taking course
Easy class if you attend lectures and do work. He either will make you do optional homework with quizzes or no quizzes with required homework. Attendance is graded and is only applied to your final grade if it will raise your grade.
His lectures are not clear at all, makes tons of mistakes and the midterms reflect the hardest problems that he doesn't explain clearly enough. Yes, he puts all of the lecture notes on his website but it is no use because his handwriting is terrible and you will not be able to understand anything on there. He's a solid guy, but not the best teacher
solid professor! lectures slowly, gives EC for attendance, sometimes curves exams if low ave., lenient grader, + replaces low quiz or midterm scores w/ better final or midterm scores. also learns everyone's names. not the easiest A, but very doable. got an A in 42 by doing all the hw + light studying. got lazy in 43 and still got a B. take him!
His class maybe ok for those who just want to pass. But definitely not suitable for those who is striving for an A. Lecture too heavy! He teaches every single thing that is in the textbook. you dont know what to study for the tests! Dont take him unless you want to suffer! I got A for both Math 1A and 1B, so you know this is a genuine comment
He gives review before tests and exams which are quite similar to the actual tests. Calculators are allowed. but no cheat sheet for test and final. Lenient grader. Doesn't try to trick you during test.
if he doesn't give review, you will fail the test because he teaches a lot of things and you are unprepared for the tests until the review is given. Smart and good at math. Unlike some other Math profs, he basically doesn't skip any section. For Summer: Be prepared to study at least 3-4 hours per day and full day on weekend. It is expressed class.
Difficult to follow. Messes up often. A bit clueless. He's not very good at explaining the concepts so if you can take someone else, do so. I had to teach my self some of the subjects matters.
If math is not your good subject, don't take him. he messes up on his own and he's very unmotivated himself. even going to him is useless and his tests are harder than you would expect. wish I took somebody else for calculus
He switches off and does hw every other quarter so if you're lucky you won't have any hw. For reference he had hw winter 2018. if you have a decent understanding of precalc and are just taking the class bc you messed up on the placement test or for a requirement then take him. i never went to class except for midterms and the final. still got an A.
Took is math 1B class. His grading is very unclear. Drops 2 midterm and there is no quiz for you to practice. Grades on only midterm (4 of them), finals and homework. The way he grade midterms is just appalling. He doesnt give any points at all. He does drop 2 mid terms but he does that for you to pass the class. Dont take it to save your gpa.
He's a nice teacher. Just doesn't know how to explain the concept properly. Very hard to pass the class even if you go to tutoring. Very hard to read his handwriting. I wish he can curve his grading system. Not everyone knows calculus in less than 12 weeks. Attendance is important and make sure you do your homework
i am in calculus hell with this class. there are 4 midterms and he only notifies you the week before. posts lectures online but they are extremely messy and unclear. nice guy, but not enjoying this class currently.
Horrible teacher, doesn't explain anything.... hard to pass class
hard to keep up with the lecture. the class was a total of 50 points. not really good at explaining. hes a nice dude but im not sure he knew what he was teaching in a business calc class
Not sure if hes teaching business calc next quarter but please dont tale him. You will be teaching yourself. I agree with tbe post below he is a nice dude but if you teach a course please do it without the short cuts. Sucks that half the class was confused the entire time
Teaches slowly which is really nice, very approachable for questions, and encouraging. Super understanding and kind professor. His lectures are very helpful and he explains concepts clearly. Great teacher!
Hes really nice, but his lectures are very messy. uploads the notes that he writes in class (unreadable). lots of manual hw but finish all of them because the quizzes and tests are based on it. easy A, but you do need to spend quite some time and teach yourself concepts that you dont understand. his lectures are heavily based on the textbook.
Not bad. A nice teacher.
Reading these reviews, Rick was the last person I wanted. 10 weeks into the quarter, he is easily one of the best professors I have had in my academic career. His lectures are detailed, and does interesting proofs. His tests are straightforward. He gives extra credit. Honestly if you have any passion for math you should take him.
He is a gentle and caring professor. It's important for you to take all the notes becoz he always forgets to upload his lectures on the website. You must get a lot of spare time to finish his homework. Tests aren't so difficult and can be replaced by the final. He gives extra credit for perfect attendance. However, I don't like his teaching style
The worst professor I've taken at De Anza. He always made mistakes when he explained the questions. Furthermore, I've seen the most terrible notes in his class. His note is like... Never take this professor ever. Run... for saving your GPA
Really caring, helpful in his office hours, his notes and solutions to hw and exams is online. He gives four midterms that cover less material which might be better for some people. Gives partial credit and extra credit for attendance. HW is not mandatory. I'd totally recommend him
Be ready to work and remember its a tough class. Do the homework you would be fine for the MT. The final replaces around 2 MT which is a pretty good thing. Very kind and patient professor, always ready to help you so just put some effort you can get an A.
He is the worst professor at De Anza and is totally irresponsible with his work. He is least interested in replying back to the students about their concerns. This class being an online class, we have no way to contact the professor except for e-mails, and he is least interested to respond back to any of the mails. DO NOT take him.
I had him for pre-calculus and now Math 1B. His teaching is very general. Not Great but not bad. He goes over the sections pretty long which helps a lot. Tests are based on homework and lecture examples. Just a solid and good professor. He is very nice and genuine and will help you if you have a question
His teaching is fast and unclear. Hw are on webassign so I study by myself by watching videos on webassign. Exams are easy because he gives a day to submit them so you will have plenty of times to do them.
This prof clearly is bad for teaching. Although he knows the stuff himself, he can't teach it so students understood it. He makes material uber hard to understand, so you end up not having any idea on what is happening. Very confusing, avoid!
His class is confusing. He is material is hard to understand and his handwriting is kind of awful. His class makes me unmotivated and lose attention quickly. I can tell that he knows what he's trying to teach but his lecture just confuses me more. He isn't a bad person but his teaching style is just not for me. Also, his notes is a bit messy
A good guy, gives off Santa Claus vibes. Not amazing, but definitely not the worst prof I've had. Always asks if there are questions and is very kind, but tends to lecture in an unnecessarily wordy and convoluted way, so it ends up being confusing and boring. Also has trouble keeping his notations consistent (switches between variables).
While Taylor is not the worst professor or lecturer, he at times makes his lectures more complicated than necessary and as result, I had to self-learn most of the material from the textbook and Professor Leonard on YouTube. I would say he's an average teacher at best, so he should be an option only if there's no good professor available.
Prof Taylor is a really solid choice. He is nicer and cares more than most professors and if you follow his lecture, you should be able to solve most of the problems on the quizzes he gives. Homework is not mandatory and zoom lectures are uploaded promptly on the same day if not the day after.
Taylor isn't an awful teacher, but he certainly isn't the best but not the worst. He isn't always very good at explaining and sometimes he is quite confusing. However, taylor is quite lenient with his online assignments. We ask for extra time for graded assignment and he grants it. Exams are open for about 18-20hr i say, open note.
Awesome professor! Lecture slow and explained concept clearly. Take him as you math professor and you won't regret!
Took him for calc 1B and 1C. He's a solid choice. Tests are based off from hw and lecture. Just study and you'll be fine!
Tests are based on lectures. Drops lowest midterm grade. No quizzes but 3 midterms and 1 final. Leaves midterm open for whole day. Makes minor mistakes during lectures.
The whole class I found myself learning off homework which I spent a lot of time doing everyday. It's probably relative but the lectures are really really confusing and I always conclude to third party sources to support me throughout the class which made concepts superiorly clearer in a shorter time.
Professor Taylor isn't the best or the worst, just average. His lectures are pretty boring but that goes for most teachers. No quizzes, just midterms. He doesn't post grades or give much feedback so you kind of have to keep track of how you're doing based on the homework and tests scores. Really nice teacher though, would take again.
Professor Taylor is literally the nicest teacher ever, if you have a question, he'll answer nicely and won't judge you. Sometimes I get a little lost in his handwriting, but honestly you'd get the point if you attend lectures.
Professor Taylor is super nice and helpful. Lecture can be confusing and handwriting sometimes is messy so you kinda have to figure out what it says yourself. If you need help, go to office hours and he will help you understand it better. No quizzes only midterms and final. Good homework amount. Solid choice for online learning.
Everything is on Cengage, 4 midterms overall. Attendance is not mandatory, I self-studied a lot because his lectures are unclear sometimes, but it isn't hard to get an A.
Prof. Taylor really gives off that Santa Claus vibe. His lectures may get boring at times, but ig that's because not a lot of students really participate in his class. However, he is very accessible outside of class, either thru email or thru his office hrs. He is willing to go over homework problems, so dont be afraid to ask!
20% Homework, 3 Midterms 20% Each, Final 20%, could be worth 40% to replace lowest exam. Homework is on WebAssign with multiple tries. Handwritten exams, gives you the whole day to do exams and final, fair grader. Lecture notes are messy.
Only grades tests, which are closed note/closed calculator. Does not review exams before. Believes if you attend lectures there's enough information there. Thinks COVID made students not learn. He can't grade a test before the next one but thinks you can learn the material in that time. No sympathy for students who learned during a pandemic; avoid.
I have had Rick for both Math 1b online and 1c hybrid (online/in person). He has a major problem with pacing. His online classes feel really slow while his in person classes are paced really fast. Your entire grade in his classes are based on exams. He supplies review problems before each one but they don't really cover what will be on the exam.
His lectures are concise and straightforward, and he is very receptive to questions and corrections. Hw is optional, but tests are similar to hw, so I highly recommend working through all of them. Best out of 4 DA math professors I've had. Diff eq. is not an easy class, but he makes it simple if you pay attention and do the assigned work.
Took him for hybrid in person/online class. Lectures can get a bit boring at times and his handwriting isn't great but overall he is a reasonable and nice professor. Has gotten better at returning exams on time over the quarter. Optional hw but exam questions reflected the hw questions so it is recommended to do the optional hw anyway.
Very good professor but talks a little slow and lectures are long and boring. Easy A if you do your own self-study but is very generous on dropping the lowest test scores and such. I recommend you do the homework problems to help you with tests.
Based on reviews from the last year I think Taylor was easier during the big COVID period, because this was a TOUGH class. Exams are and final are the only graded things. No EC or graded homework to pad your grade. Be ready to spend 30+ hours a week on this class if you want an A.
I TOOK THE 1C (not 1b) class. Super nice and always happy to answer my questions during office hours. He always recorded his lectures so that we can watch them or rewatch them at home which was really nice. Our grade was only based on 4 midterms and a final (lowest final+ second lowest final or half the midterm was dropped at the end).
He is just the best professor. You will get A very easily. He is like a very kind and caring grandfather next door. However, since the font is hard to recognize, you need to study outside. He cares about individual convenience.
Definitely one of the easier options for 1D. Tests make up the bulk of your grade but they are not too challenging given you understand the homework. Lectures are somewhat sloppy so supplementing them with other videos would be helpful for grasping the concepts. Taylor is nice and is always happy to help if you see him during office hours as well.
He's a great guy and will try his best to teach you. The problem is that hes very hard to understand and his handwriting is straight up unreadable. Be prepared to use youtube as your main source of learning. Tests are on a huge time crunch (3 pages 50 minutes) and they cover A LOT. You get 1 page double-sided for notes but it wont save you trust me
Professor Taylor tries to teach you but does not succeed. You will have to learn by yourself as he simply shows you examples without explaining how to do them. Definitely review your Calc 1b knowledge. Also, his handwriting is incredibly illegible so even if he does explain anything, it is nearly impossible to copy it down.
Only grade 3 exams and a final. Quizzes and attendance are optional but will be useful to boost grade up. His lectures are amazing but fast-paced. Because of this, his written notes are messy and disorganized. Do hw + WebAssign problems and you will do well on exams since exam problems are similar to hw problems. I'd definitely take him again.
3 midterms and a final. Lowest midterm is dropped. Final is worth 50% and each midterm is worth 25%. Gives EC for quizzes, attendance, and office hours. If you do the optional homework (not graded) you should get an A on every test with no additional studying. Lectures are recorded and posted to canvas. Calculators allowed on exams.
Although this professor was a really polite person, in terms of teaching capabilities, he could improve on a number of things. It was a bit hard to read his handwriting, he was unclear a lot of times, and what worried me was how often he himself was a bit confused at what he was teaching, however, D.E is a difficult subject so i can understand why.
His class was very doable by doing a bit of the homework, doing the problem sets as test practice, and keeping up in class. I would rate him higher, but his lectures were often dull and he would often make mistakes that people had to correct for him in his example problems during the lecture. He is a kind grader on tests though and caring overall.
The best math teacher at De Anza! It was super easy to get an A with Minimal effort. Problems are straightforward and most of them are from the homework. Take him!
The most boring lecture. The grading criteria are unclear.
Lectures can be boring but get the material across. 3 midterms, lowest dropped, questions are very similar to the optional HW. No note card because he tests you on definitions and formulas, but you will be fine if you can solve the HW problems. Lowest midterm dropped if it helps your grade, weekly quizzes are EC. Final is 50% of the grade.
NEVER REPLIED to emails. Lectures are super boring, learn from Youtube. Tests are much worth 75% of your grades. The 25% is attendance. No notes and graphing calculators are allowed on exams, so that's tough. HW is optional, but doing them will help you on the exam. Just make sure your integration skills are good, cuz you'll see them a lot.
His handwriting is atrocious. Doesn't allow cheat sheets, so it helps to have a good memory. You will have to memorize common integrals such as arctan. He assigned a ton of HW and it took be hours and hours to do. You have to do it to do well in this class. The main thing hindering me was not having a good memory and the amount of material.
Rick is old so he makes many mistakes in his lectures and has illegible writing. Tests make up the entirety of your grade and attendance is EC. Cheat sheets aren't allowed on tests and you are expected to memorize a lot; the provided formulas tend not to be enough. DE is a hard class so your best bet is to self-study a ton and do all the hw.
Eh, he's an ok option, but can be forgetful and isn't very prompt with grading. Tests were not too hard, but you need to memorize formulas to have a decent chance on them. Also curved. Attendance is worth roughly as much as a test, so make sure to attend lectures. Other than that, you should pass.
Lectures are boring. Reads the Textbook on the projector. Generous extra credit for attendance. Self-studied later in the quarter. Only graded on exams based on optional HW. Not the worst professor. I thought I would get a worse grade.
He's ok. A nice guy. Entire grade comes from exams. Didn't allow self-made cheat sheets, but provided his own. which were ok, but you have to memorize integration and derivatives. Some of his own solutions to his problem sets had errors. Do the assigned HW problems, look up solutions on YT, and do many more textbook problems and you'll pass.
i would not take this prof again!! his lectures were just doing examples and his writing is actually illegible. he's just extremely slow and boring and it's impossible to be engaged in class. his exams were very difficult and he only graded on 3 midterms + final. if you're really good at self-studying maybe you'll do okay but i struggled so much.
I found his teaching was hard to pay attention to and slow, I had to mostly self teach. He did not grade homework, so our grade was 100% from three tests which were very difficult. He is a nice professor, but his teaching isn't the best. In addition, he took extremely long to grade the midterms.
Professor Taylor is a great prof. He offers so many free points and the homework is optional. Although he occasionally makes mistakes, he's a concise lecturer and is always available during office hours if you have any questions. You deserve the grade you end up with. If you ended with an unsatisfactory grade, it's not the professor's fault.
After only a few weeks of sitting in Rick's lecture, I have come to respect his ability to teach math as well as his accessible class which fostered in me an appreciation for mathematical thinking and logic. He has a strong background in math and is able to answer tricky questions from students.
Professor Taylor is nice, although lectures can get dull and mistakes are sometimes made. The exams are fair. Attendance is EC, and there are 2 midterms and 1 final. May need to self-study some portions of the course.
I really had a great experience with his math 22. I enjoyed his lectures and teaching style, as he has a deep understanding of mathematical logic and does his best to help. For quizes and exams, make sure you are comfortable with his lecture notes and homework, and you'll be good. Don't worry about his handwriting, as he reads loud what he writes.
Your grade is only dependent on 3 midterms and a final. MAKE SURE YOU STUDY, and you will do well. He gives weekly quizzes that can only improve your grade. His lectures can get a bit boring, but if you stay on top of stuff, and make sure to understand by doing the optional homework, you should do well.
Lectures are very monotonous and sometimes hard to follow. Course is ENTIRELY dependent on midterms and exams, meaning you receive no credit for homework, participation, etc. Doesn't provide practice tests but instead says all the problems on exams will from optional homeworks, which have 20+ problems each. EC is confusing and barely boosts grade.
Attendance is not mandatory, but lecture notes can be disorganized and hard to read. Had 3 midterms, 6 quizzes, and 1 final. Quizzes are ECs and optional. However, they don't really boost up the grade. Exams are from optional HWs, so I suggest reviewing them as much as possible before the exam. Grading is strict.
Great lectures, gives lots of partial credit and extra credit. Follow along with the homework and lectures, and you will be fine. Not much self study required.
Easy class, nice prof. He gives optional quizzes every week that can only improve your grade at the end, and replaces lowest midterm with final grade. Lectures were extremely boring, but it's important to take notes on how he does proofs as some techniques he does differently than the book does. Overall easy class and kind prof
Lectures can be boring at times but he addresses topics very well. Quizzes don't affect your grade unless it benefits your grade which is really nice. Midterms and final are not bad if you practice problems from the textbook.
Single-handedly ruined my 4.0. He does not respond to emails and grades finals late. I aced every math class besides this course. I felt like I was Dora without a map because he made so many errors during his lectures. Thought I was being gaslit due to his errors. Self-teach yourself, or avoid at all costs for multivariable.
Kind!
I like that he was very kind and accessible outside of class. He also uploads his notes and recorded lectures on Canvas. Tests are precisely in the boundary of expectation. What I didn't like was his horrible handwriting, didn't provide that many quizzes or practice tests (but still, tests are similar to homework), and his slightly slow grading.
Horrible professor. There is no homework but your grade relies solely on exams and midterms. His lecturing is super unclear and sloppy, you have to basically self-learn. His exams are 70 minutes long and you have a lecture right after. I do not recommend taking his class if you want good grades.
Horrible professor. Not sure why I wasn't deterred by the reviews and first day but I absolutely regret with all I've got taking this class. There's a midterm in like 3 days and his material is extremely hard to understand, dropping this if I fail that. If you're taking reading this and is planning to take this guy, PLEASE DON'T. SAVE YORUSELF
terrible teaching style, is too fast in his lectures and is boring as heck, I dont think I learned anything under him, it was all self study before exams/ quizzes. his notes/ lectures make no sense and his handwriting is so bad that you cant understand anything even if you stare at it the whole lecture. avoid at all costs. so boring...
his handwriting is pretty sloppy so I recommend to sit near the board to see better. I would also say I spent more time teaching myself rather learning from him. He's pretty fast-paced but he asks if anyone needs clarification on rubles at the beginning of every lecture if you need help on a specific problem.
Nice Person
G.O.A.T.
Exams for this class was from notes and homework, but reworded. Exam questions weren't consistent, but he would let the class know of his mistakes. He tried something new with attendance and quizzes which helped a lot. Homework that was given was not required to turn in but certainly helped. I suggest self studying and ask questions in class.
Solid teacher. The grades are extremely low stakes, with LOTS of opportunities to succeed. The lectures felt boring and he made minor mistakes sometimes, but he overall taught the concepts well. Personally, I recommend getting your best grades in the 1st and 2nd midterms as it'll give you lots of breathing room for the 3rd midterm and final.
The first day will de tough, his lecture style is boring and you will be lost. But after doing the homework and reviewing on your own the lectures start making sense and are valuable. A lot of homework at time but it's all not graded. Multiple quizzes which are online and super easy. Homework problems he makes himself will be on the test.
I didn't really like his way of teaching because it was so messy. Math D covers many hard topics so it's better to just self study. He doesn't allow cheat sheets so you just need to memorize the formulas. Midterms aren't bad just do ALL the homework so you do good on them. The only thing tough is learning the concepts because they are hard.
Do all of the optional homework and you will do well. Exams were easier versions of the homework. EC was just a weighted average towards 100% (not very helpful). Attendance was EC; attend anyway for the lectures. Drops/replaces lowest midterm; final grade cannot be lower than final exam grade. Does not give A+ on request, even if you ace the exams.
The worst class I've ever taken.:''( His grading was unclear and NO EQUATION SHEET ALLOWED during exams. I had to memorize all the equations. Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT take him as there are many other profs at DA who allow equation-sheets. His lectures were also boring, and the minimal extra credit did not make any difference.
GOAT Prof. Lectures are a little slow and sometimes he will end lectures in the middle of a problem. Sometimes makes minor mistakes but you have to call him out on it or he will continue on with the mistake. Grades are entirely midterm, final, and extra credit for attendance. Exams are light asf, just study. The bad reviews are ppl who don't study.
I don't usually write reviews but I'm here because I don't want anyone to experience the same pain. Stay away from his class if you love your GPA! Boring lectures, hard exams with 50 minute time limit, no cheat sheets, and extra credit also has a weird calculation. Does not update grades on canvas, so nobody gets an idea of the grade distribution.
Easier than sm other math professors. No homework due, 3-4 take home "quizzes", and a grade boost for attendance. If you study you'll be fine. Just open up the textbook, watch some videos, and do majority of the hw to get an A. Review the material throughout the quarter so you don't have to cram. Spend time doing practice problems (duh). He's nice.
He is not really good at lecturing. However, he will explain all the details on how to solve the homework and exam problem on lecture. And what makes life easier is the exam is just like the homework problem. All lecture are recorded, but DONT fall behind. The true difficulty of this course is from the math itself since it is still calculus
The first day of class is used to discuss the syllabus as well as the grade breakdown and grade calculation. There may be some extra credit quizzes. Lectures are recorded. Homework is not graded. Class time is usually used to go through the textbook and discuss topics. Plenty of time is given for exams.
Professor Taylor is nice but very boring. His handwriting isn't good 👎, but he is happily willing to answer any confusion and questions. Sit up front if you have a hard time focusing. Attendance isn't mandatory but I highly suggest it; he will tell exactly how to answer test questions and give easy quizzes that only boost your grade. TAKE NOTES!
DO NOT take this course if u want to be 100% sure about your grades!! prof taylor rarely ever inputs grades on Canvas so it's very unclear what grade u will end up with. the tests are hard, short time-limit, and little to no formulas are provided. he is a very tough and unclear grader. if u self-study very hard, you will pass.
He's great but lectures can be boring. As long as you focus in class(quite hard in a 2hrs lecture), you should be fine. He goes over details and upload recorded lectures. Quizzes are considered extra credit. Homework is for practice only. 3 midterms and 1 final are where your grades matter. No cheat sheets. Not the best class but still good.
Good person but terrible teaching style. Don't take him if you rely on a good lecturer
He is a good professor. 10 - 11 quizzes, but they were extra credit (did not make a lot of difference to your final grade), 3 midterms and 1 final mainly counted for the final grade. The homework, quizzes, midterms, and final are quite similar to each other. Homeworks were not graded. Lectures can be boring as they are 2+ hrs.
Super boring and not useful lectures; he only read from the textbook for the entire class.
No, just no. Opted for "no pass". Just no. If you aren't going to attend every lecture and engage with the confusing lectures/notes, absolutely no.
Almost no one actually listens to his lectures. He is not good at teaching and has poor handwriting. He lacks passion and has a very confusing grading policy.
easy class, read directly from textbook, he wasn't helpful at all but didn't impede learning.
bad lectures, but tests aren't THAT hard and are similar to practice/homework questions. it's hard to read his handwritings so you gotta rewatch lectures if you rly want to understand. GOT TWO GIRLS CHEATING on an exam and i reported; all he said was "oh, I'll be careful next time" and nothing changed. i could've cheated as well then..
Slow lectures, though if you manage to stay awake enough, they are quite good. Handwriting hard to read, but if you do the problems with him, you can usually figure out what he's writing. I personally attended all lectures, but half the class only came for quizzes or exams. He tries his best, but the class is just so slow.
Professor Taylor is not the most engaging lecturer but if you pay attention it is very clear what problems will be and will not be on the test. He doesn't go out of his way to make it very dificult for you. He is also quite accessible outside of class with lots of office hours. He provides 10-11 non-mandatory quizzes that only help your grade.
Goat. Exams/quizzes are exactly the same difficulty as homework (very reasonable). Quizzes are all extra credit (one quiz a week). Good lecturer. Final can replace up to two midterms (three midterms total). Overall W prof. Would highly recommend.
