I was afraid of taking English in college but professor castillo made the class fun and about topics that were great to discuss. You will learn to write better and understand readings. No exams, no group work, allows revision of work.

Grades are on three papers and then reader responses as extra credit. He grades fair and allows you to revise the essays for a higher grade. Best part are the class discussions. It was fun.

If you can't submit an assignment on time, you'll get another chance, as long as the delay is justified. He's very courteous and respectful of students.

If you have problems keeping your attention for long periods of time, "fear not" this prof is an excellent communicator, very clear while explaining plus you will be provided with enough support material to meet any of the assignments. I am a dual enrollment student and this was my first real college experience. This professor made my life so insightful and inspirational. He encouraged us to think beyond a superficial level and allowed us to get in touch with ourselves. Participation is mandatory but it is also extremely fun. Great Teacher, I had the pleasure of having him for a semester. Unfortunately, I had him during the COVID-19 pandemic but he made the transition to remote learning very easy and In class, he gave great feedback and made the course easy to understand. As long as you attend and do all the work that's assigned it's an easy A.

He's a great teacher, his classes are very fun and has interesting topics to discuss. The class does not have any test, he leaves one or two homeworks per week that are kind of long but is manageable. You have to do 2 essays and a research paper as your "tests" but he will let you resubmit them for a better grade.

Great Professor for ENC1101. He was very clear and thorough in his teaching and genuinely wanted to see all of his students pass his class. He recognized good work and inspired students like me to pay more attention and engage more in the class.

He is a very knowledgeable person that really knows how to get to the students in the best way for them to understand and truly learn. He is also very understanding and willing to help his students.

english has never been the easiest subject for me. i had failed both ap lang and ap lit in high school and had always gotten Bs, even in enc1101. professor castillo made english more accessible. i actually understood a shakesperean play and i did good on papers because of the clear instructions. please take professor castillo if you can.

I took him for my second attempt at this class, and he was amazing! His lectures were easygoing and engaging, and he expects you to participate in discussions about the current books you're reading. Professor Castillo transformed our 7am class into an engaging experience, challenging our writing skills. Through his assignments, he encouraged us to reflect on our future lives and our elderly loved ones. Plus, he expressed his thoughts brilliantly through fantastic memes!

Professor uses NO BOOKS all semester. Only "Literature" are movies. Take if you'd like an easy A, don't if you'd like to engage in classic literature. First few weeks were spent watching 2 movies per week, the rest on poetry, short stories, final project. Rap is poetry. 3 reflections. 2 Essays. 1 film review. 1 Final Project (5 pages.) No tests.

Very easy A. Does not READ any literature, only watches movies. Don't take if you'd like to read any classics, you'll be watching Schindlers List and The Matrix instead. Easy class, extra credit available towards the end. Very little work: 3 reflection type assignments. 2 Essays. 1 final project (5 pages). 1 film review. 0 tests.

I took professor Castillo for ENC 1101, 1102 and also for LIT 2000. He is amazing. He makes the readings interesting and relatable. Professor Castillo has a simple and clear course structure: two weekly discussion posts, one quiz every one to two weeks, and a 10% midterm.
