Mader's film class last semseter rocked! 3:00 class! he's got some of the funniest stories though we did watch some horrible movies (donnie darko for the final) this class is def worth taking even if u dont need it for anything!

By far the coolest professor I've had at WCU. His class is really fun and interesting. You'll actually learn things. You do watch some weird and boring movies but the class is really worth taking. He is very easy going and is understanding.

who doesn't love rodney- whenever i'm scheduling, i first check out what he's teaching- even though you don't stay up all night worrying about passing his class, you definitely learn a lot in his casual environment- great professor

Mader is funny, smart, and helpful. He may take some getting used to, but he managed to do one thing: make early American writings interesting. He's a man who appreciates cleverness and hard-work.

Mader is a phenominal professor. I look forward to going to his class every week. He is amazingly intelligent, articulate, and open-minded. Anyone on here who complains about him just simply can't handle an actual, intellectual college course. If you think you can handle one, take him, you won't regret it.

He is the best professor I have had so far. Seriously, I couldn't see myself takin anyone else for my first semester and freshman year of college. He is extremely helpful. Funny as hell, Full of life and ideas. Never a dull classroom moment. I love him and I definitely could say that he has unknowingly taught me more than I had bargained for.

He is the one to take for early American Lit. There's a fair amount of reading, but he's incredibly helpful in understanding the subject and grades easily on the few writing assignments he gives. I didn't like the material before I took him, but he did a really good job of showing what was important about each reading and making class a lot of fun.

He's an awesome professor, very liberal and open-minded, and leads very interesting classes. I recommend him to anyone!

Awesome professor. The work was hard but he put a lot of effort into helping us. If you needed help with anything he was more than willing to give you advice. I would definitely take classes with him again.

Anybody who doesn't like his sarcastic attitude can't take a joke. He grades hard but he has his heart in the right place-he's trying to help you discover your weaknesses. He always allowed revisions and your grade usually increased after you submitted your revisions. Always in his office during his hours. I look forward to more classes with him!

Anyone that wrote that Dr. Mader is arrogant and sarcastic definitely has no sense of humor! He is the best! He always makes the class laugh and he really knows his area of study so any questions you have will be answered. He is awesome and I defintely recommend him. If you go on a field trip, like my class did, he won't kill you on the ride there!

Dr. Mader's class is easy as long as you stay reading the book and keep up with the material. He gives quizzes about the chapters in the book. He is very helpful and has good strategies for when you write your term paper. Overall, great professor, great class.

Mader loves everything that has to do with film, so the class is always interesting. His random outbursts of funny facts are also entertaining! He gives 5 quizzes on 5 chapters, and although he grades them hard, you can re-do 3 of the 5 for full credit. He grades the 10-12 page paper hard, but he gives you a lot of feedback on rough draft to hel

Mader is awesome. Brilliant, witty, and fun. He sarcastically skewers himself and his students, goes off on tangents, and still manages to cover the material. Chose great films for class viewing. Grades for textbook memorization a little too much but I would totally have a beer with this guy.

Dr. Mader instantly became one of my most favorite professors that I have ever had. He is hilarious, interesting, engaging and runs a phenomenally student-centered classroom for his seminars. If you have the opportunity to take him for ENG 400, do it.

Hilarious and entertaining, such a fun teacher, go to class becuase you'll love him. interesting topic, slides are directly what is on test. book is worthless dont buy. hes so great, just go to class and read slides to pass

You don't need the book and he doesn't care about attendance. Most of the time we watched movies, music videos, TV shows. Awesome class. The material is hard but he tells you exactly what to know. If you don't go to class, just read/print out the PowerPoint. He's hilarious and really cares about his job. Great teacher!

Real easy class. No need to go unless it's a test day. DON'T BUY THE BOOK! I didn't open mine once. Tests are exactly whats on the power points so study those and you'll be good. Mader is super funny and doesn't care if you go to class or not. I would recommend him

Mader is such a cool, laid back guy. I was put in hsi pop culture class for my first semester of my freshman year. He doesn't care about attendance, his tests are sooo easy, and the material is simple, don't buy the book,everything you need to know is on the powerpoints. Also my class watched episodes of Jersey Shore, True Blood, and Modern Family

I thought this class (Colonial and American Rev Lit) was going to be god awful. Dr. Mader made it one of the most interesting and fun classes. He is droll and sharp-witted. His humor brings a lot to the class and he does a great job of relating the material to modern times. Definitely recommend him. Seems to like and respect students.

Such an easy teacher. If you go to all of the lectures he will tell you exactly what will be on the test, so just go. Class usually doesn't let out early. You get to watch a ton of things online that are hilarious. After every quiz he gives you all of the answers. The midterm and the final are all questions from previous quizzes. Great class.

Ok so im about as far right as one can get, especially with social issues and i still found mader to actually pretty funny. the topic of sexuality does come up in class a lot but i really didnt feel like he pushed any opinions on me. hel tell you exactly whats on the quizzes. if you take a higher level lit course he DOES take attendance

One of the best profs I've had. He's not afraid to talk about the sensitive stuff, and that's what made the class so interesting. I never thought I could find American Captivity Narratives relatable in any way but somehow he made the class really interesting. Easy grader and very encouraging

His pop culture class is easy. Show up and you'll pass with an A. All online exams and basically gives you the answers before you take it. He's hilarious and interesting.

TAKE HIS CLASS. Hands down best professor I've ever had. Isn't afraid to talk about things that make people uncomfortable, pushes the boundaries of modern education. Inspires me to pursue education as a major. He is absolutely hysterical and passionate about what he teaches. If I could take every one of his classes I would. He's also a total babe!

Dr. Mader is AWESOME! Class was so easy, EASY A! He's such a funny and chill dude and he makes class fun. He wants students to succeed which is what I like most about him.

My favorite class the semester I took it. He is hilarious and a really good teacher. If he sees the class doesn't understand something or is confused, he will reteach and make sure the class understands. All tests are online and they are all questions from class. I really enjoyed his class because of how he taught and how funny he was.

AMAZING professor. Best I've had so far. He's hilarious, kind, interesting, and very clear. I would recommend him to anyone. He made having an 8am somewhat enjoyable. Tough grader, but he makes everything clear. Passed with a B+ without doing any of the reading. But get the book anyway. Can only miss 3 classes or he'll lower your grade.

Dr Mader is so funny His class was easy and most importantly he cares about all his students and their success He gives questions and answers for all the online quizzes so I would just take pictures when he projected them on the screen Final is open note so I just printed out the reviews question and answers and Im pretty sure I got a 100 on it lol

Dr. Mader was hilarious. He is very clear and explains if anyone does not understand. We watched tv shows and movies that were followed by class discussions. I would definitely take his class again.

Mader is hilarious. The class involves polls and quizzes using clickers. When More than halfof the class gets the question wrong the question doesnt Count against you. Every question from the test was at one time or another a daily Quiz question tests online Go to class Which isn't bad and get an A its not a bad class. Actual enjoyable.

He is a great person and really gets to know his students. His paper assignments for this class were so confusing. He is a hard grader, but he always helps when you ask for it. if you have an interactive class, your class will be very entertaining and you'll look forward to it. He takes attendance every class and there are 5 papers in the semester.

Easy A. Clicker questions are the questions on the unit quizzes, write them down and you will pass the quizzes. The final was also clicker questions and you can use your notes. He is hilarious and I didn't mind going to class. There's no book you need to buy, which is a plus. The class is entertaining and there's no homework.

Easy class. Quizzes using a clicker in class. Half the time watching tv shows/commercials. Test questions are directly from the quizzes and Final questions taken directly from the 5 tests.

Mader is a hilarious man and he tried to make his class fun. We got to watch some Jersey Shore and random YouTube videos. He is very passionate and you are almost guaranteed an A.

easiest A of my life. You get quiz questions that you have to answer with your clicker for class participation (we all ended with 100s because the clickers were never working). The online tests are the same as the in class quiz questions (take notes of them) and the final is open note! You also watch Orange Is the New Black and Jersey Shore.

Maders hilarious and makes class really fun. Tests are super easy if you pay attention to daily clicker quizzes which. Definitely would take him again

Loved Mader. He's so funny and always in a good mood. Never ever had homework, he assigned watching 2 seasons of OITNB if you count that as homework. He counts attendance with a clicker with quiz questions that are on the test!!! So write them down and you will get an A. Attendance is mandatory but personally I barely went. No textbook. TAKE HIM!

Professor Mader is awesome, he is hilarious and class is very entertaining. A clicker device is mandatory for lecture, attendance and quiz in this class. He use powerpoint slides during lecture, so take notes since materials will definitely reappear on quizzes and exams. He is straight forward, definitely recommended taking him for LIT100 course.

Mader is a great guy. The clickers were screwed up for our class so basically if you went to class you got a 100%. He is so sweet, intelligent, and quirky. I would take him again in a heart beat. Easy elective!

I honestly don't know what the bad reviews were for. Fairly easy class with not too many assignments. Lets you do corrections for every assignment if u want. Takes attendance but towards end of the year you only have class once a week. The overarching topic of the class is plants but I wouldn't let that deter you from taking this class. 10/10 easy.

I actually enjoyed his WRT200 class, he's definitely not hard but not super easier either. Make sure you look over your paper before turning it in, he does allow you to redo it if you received a bad grade. I wouldn't be mad if I had to take him again.

Mader was an amazing professor and I hope to have him again. He was very funny which made lectures interesting even when the topic was monotonous. He let us revise as much as needed and gave useful feedback. He also gave us freedom to write about whatever we wanted for the term paper. I literally wrote it on a cartoon and got an A. It wasn't hard.

Professor Mader was a great professor that made each class entertaining and created a low stress environment for students. He challenged me to provide my best work while also encouraging me to remain true to myself. Professor Mader created the perfect environment and it was a wonderful surprise to learn he was a fellow fan of the hit show Sopranos

I loved Professor Mader. He was so helpful in every aspect. He is so caring and understands messing up on a paper and will let you try again with his assistance. He is also just so funny and entertaining. I loved coming to his class.

Professor Mader keeps class engaging, though he can be disorganized at times. The assignments are flexible, and unstuck ai was a great study tool alongside the free textbook. The workload was manageable, and I appreciated his willingness to give feedback and allow revisions.

If you are going to take Mader's class, understand sarcasm. He makes class interesting and overall is an understanding professor if he knows you care about class. It is worth taking him if you can!
