Was an awesome prof! Made learning about psychology fun and interesting. Relates to students very well. Even during early morning lectures he still was happy all the time. Maybe it was all of that tea or something :P If you can get Rodney as a prof do it.

rodney is a really great professor! he made psych interesting, i almost wanted to switch degree paths. Dont chat with others during his lectures, although it was funny as an observer, he is obviously irritated by it. And even though he may be a heavy metal fan, he's sexy as hell!

Great introductory teacher, and he knows what he's talking about. Most importantly.. I can stay awake in his lectures, because he is not boring.

I took his spring class, three hours per day I was worried about falling asleep after the prof I had in 104...but for three hours he managed to keep my attention!! Knows his stuff and his very well organized. Willing to help anyone anytime he can. Oh and he is easy on the eyes...added bonus!

great teacher. he is highly qualified to teach this class. his slide shows are interesting and informative, he has a strong grasp on teaching skills and the class become easy because he keeps us interested, and yes i agree, the man is hot!

Schmaltz is a really cool guy! He made this class fun and was always open to any thoughts and suggestions. His tests are really straight forward. If you read the text, you'll do good. You don't even really need to go to the lectures to do well because the course is so freakin easy!

I agree with the comment below mine that this course can be learned straight from the text- it's not necessary to go to class. However, Rodney's lectures are filled with such enthusiasm that you will want to attend them anyway. His lectures are like entertainment. He has lots of cool stories. Really knowledeable guy, especially for being so young.

I took Psyc104 from him and loved it. I had never taken biology before so I struggled but I learned a lot. All of his PP slides are on his website from the U of A and pretty much any questions you have, he can likely answer right after class. I quite enjoyed all the stories though on a Sat morning, movies made me tired. I'm back for 105 though!

great prof. his lectures are very easy to sit through, and he adds a lot of amusing personal anecdotes that relate to the material very well. not to mention how sexy he is

He is an excellent teacher. The course is interesting and fairly straight forward and easy. You could learn it from the text and not go to class but coming from a person that skips a lot of class this is one I WANTED to go to. He makes it really interesting and fun. His lectures really add to how good the material is.

Excellent. Grant MacEwan has a very favorable psychology faculty! Rod was a really funny guy (most of the time). Informative and interesting lectures. I highly recommend this course to everyone, especially with Rod! I had a tough time with his 2nd midterm and final. Just pay attention and DO YOU READINGS! Excellent prof A++++++.

Rodney was the best psychology teacher I had so far! Classes were always fun & eventful. We got to watch excellent movies that really help facilitate the learning experience (not one of those boring black & white ones). Plus, we learned stuff that was actually relevant to our lives. I wish him the best and hope I can get him again in the future.

Love this guy! Tests are straightforward and actually pretty easy (and he's willing to haggle on marks if you think he mis-marked you). Super friendly and willing to help/re-explain. He'll hint at what's important to know for the tests so not much blind studying involved. Funny (usually!). Movies&lectures are actually interesting! FANTASTIC CHOICE!

Rod is seriously the greatest psych prof I have ever had. He keeps class extremely entertaining. Coming to class is mandatory, but exams are both from his notes and the textbook. He is very helpful and willing to do anything to make sure you understand the material. I HIGHLY recommend him as a psych prof. he really knows his stuff!

Rod is great. He has a lot of interest in his area and it really comes across in his teaching. He tells great stories, many of them hilarious. He also gave a special Halloween lecture on zombies. He's got a nice loud voice which is awesome at 8 in the morning when you're not really awake yet. His classes are comprehensive and his tests are fair.

LOVE! I always had an interest in psych but had a bad experience with Peta. Took a year off and retook 104 with him and he reminded me how great it is! He knows what his stuff and always made class interesting. He chatted with me before every class about music and zombies. Saw him at a pub once and we hung out with some beers. Take his class!!

This prof is AWESOME!!! I hated psychology with a burning passion before I took this class and afterwards I couldn't wait to take more psych classes (and signed up for 2 more the next semester). Schmaltz has an infectious passion for psychology and is absolutely a FABULOUS PROF!!!

Hes a super cool dude, plays basketball, loves his job, apply's concepts to real life and adds alot of clarity. Really makes you apreciate the subject matter. Good looking as well. But out side of class feels like he doesnt care much about you. But thats pretty common.

He is an extremely good professor. I wish I could take every psychology class with him. He is very interesting, has great slides that he posts, follows the textbook so if you miss a class you can follow along in the textbook. Exams are fair and easy if you study and listen in class.

Rodney is an amazing teacher!!! If all my teachers could be just like him, university would be so much easier. I liked his teaching so much I enrolled in Psych 105. He uses lectures and the text book for his exams. He has examples for every concept which is helpful. He is very interesting and you can tell he loves his job, loved this class!!!!!!

Rodney is DA BOMB! Seriously, the best prof I have had! His tests are easy if you aren't a complete goof, and you attend his classes regularly. Notes are consistent with the textbook. He is also a very nice guy! TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU CAN.

Great teacher, great notes and interesting class. He is funny and entertaining which makes class fun. He uses a lot of videos as well as notes. His basic outlines of notes are online but go to class as a lot of what he says is not online and is present on the exams. Read the textbook. Essay question on final exam.

Rod is cool though I found that he played too many movies. I wanted him to spend more time clarifying difficult concepts from the textbook. The exams were exactly as he said. When he warns you that there might be something on the exam, write it down.

Dr. Schmaltz is one the best lecturers you could ever ask for. He's clear, knowledgable, hilarious and very helpful. Exams were completely fair. HIGHLY recommend him, you won't be disappointed!

The best prof I've had all semester. Clear, concise, makes class funny and interesting and will help you during his office hours. Even though I'm not a psych major or minor, I recommend him to anyone because he will make class worth it and he uses black board. And read the textbook because it helps

Great prof, every lecture was interesting and left me looking forward to the next one. You will have to do a bit of reading from the text in order to do well on exams, but his lectures were thorough and funny and I learned a lot. Could not recommend him more.

I came Into his class scared and nervous because I missed the first few weeks but however, I caught up and went for office hours and I'm not even joking when I say out of all of my professors thus far, Rodney is the best one! I highly recommend his class because he is the best prof ever and he is always willing to help you! His class was amazing!!

Rod is a great guy! His lectures are very entertaining, he gives great examples, and he cares about social psych. Sometimes you can tell his jokes are too pre-planned, but it just comes off as cute. Honestly a very easy class, takes minimal effort to get an A. Take this class!

Definitely my favorite class this sem. He keeps the lectures interesting and entertaining! Make sure you go to class because the notes he posts just have main concepts and definitions. If you do miss class and need clarity, he's there to help. Wasn't looking forward to the partner project on social norms but ended up being a blast.

I've taken five classes with Dr. Schmaltz at this point. His door is always open for any student who needs help. He makes the information easier to recall because his lectures are very interesting and engaging, so students do better in his classes while still learning a decent amount. He is also hilarious & patient. 1010 would recommend.

I really enjoyed taking this class with him because he had good out-going energy, friendly and provided an extra chapter on Music and Psych. He answered questions by e-mail in a timely matter. He posted his notes online, provides study questions and I found a fairly easy marker.

Dr. Schmaltz is a WONDERFUL prof! He is energetic, hilarious, and makes coming to class a pure joy! He really loves what he does and makes you love learning. I highly recommend him to anyone interested in Psychology, and if you aren't interested in Psychology, you will be after taking a class with him!

When I went into this course I thought it would be an easy A, but it really wasn't. He's a great lecturer and I actually looked forward to attending his class. There are two easy assignments. I managed to get in the low 80's for all his exams, and class average was always around 79. So he's pretty easy. I highly recommend him.

OMG BEST PROF EVER! this course was fascinating and barely any work. 2 big papers, but he marks really easily, and 2 group presentations, which are also easy. Its an EASY A

Awesome and interesting class and Dr. Schmaltz made it even better. Very energetic and loves the subject. Assignments are badly made. An 8-12 page paper worth only 10% of your mark was ridiculous He also had his assistant correct the assignments who did seem quite new to their role. Overall a good class, just unnecessary assignments.

the content for this course is not hard however he has some tricky questions on his tests. not an "easy a" course but over all really good lectures, shows a lot of movies and makes it worth your while to go to class. i would definitely recommend him and will take more classes with him!

Rodney was excellent, told us what to know for the midterm, and even gave STRONG hints to what was gonna be the short answer on the midterms. Must go to lectures because he adds important details to the slides that he posts. The lectures are interesting and engaging. Rod shows lots of interesting and relevant videos. Go to class and you'll do well.

Rodney always delivered amazing lectures. Online tests were easy to follow; midterm exam was a breeze; final exam was fairly easy if you studied. If you're willing to put in the effort, almost anyone can boost their GPA.

I really enjoyed this class! Rodney is one of my favourite professors at Macewan! He is so funny and always has examples for every single concept. His exams are fairly easy and the paper due at the end of the term was super straight forward. ps. His exams focus on application of the terms! Seriously recommend this professor!!!

An exciting prof to have who is funny and gives engaging and memorable lectures/activities that really gets the lesson across. Easy class and straight forward homework. Passing is a guaranteed and he just makes the experience more fun.

Psychology was a really fun class with hime even though there was only 1 lecture a week. He is very helpful in answering any questions, his activities are great in that they help you get a better understanding of the concepts learned from the chapter. The quizes were a great and helpfull tool in preparing for the midterm aswell as the final exam.

Dr. Schmaltz is an excellent lecturer. He speaks with a clear voice and with enthusiasm. He is also one of the co-authors of the mandatory text for Psyc 104 and 105 at MacEwan

His lectures are engaging, he's funny, he always makes relevant examples, the group participation activities are enjoyable and interesting. I would definitely take a class from him again.

I took the hybrid class and I don't really know how I felt about it. It's good in the sense that you pretty much get a portion of free marks for showing up to the lectures. Rodney is great and he's very fun and energetic. The activities can be pretty interesting and it wasn't too bad. I found exams to be a bit confusing and difficult.

The hybrid class is super easy, midterms are based on lecture videos, study those and you'll pass. Dr. Schmaltz and the TAs were super helpful and made class actually enjoyable, the lectures were short but clear and concise. Highly recommend!!

This was a hybrid course where you would show up once a week to do a group activity, and then you would have a week to watch an online lecture and do a quiz based off of the chapter you just read/learned. you got 3 attempts on the quiz which made it pretty easy to get a good grade. Rodney was great he explained concepts so everyone would understand

Easy A and GPA booster. Do not need the textbook not bother buying it. READ HIS LECTURE TRANSCRIPTS!! These are all you need to know for his midterm and final. GO TO CLASS (its only once a week) !! The activity extra percents help a lot and final review class he takes 2% off your final.

He's a good psych prof but this class is all on you. It's practically online because you have to teach the course to yourself using the textbook for quizzes and video/video transcript for exams. Pretty easy class to get minimum a B+/A- if you put some work in. Don't take it if you don't want to put the work.

Rod is an excellent professor who really cares about your success as a student when you're putting in the hard work. He's incredibly engaging, and I found him really approachable with questions about any of my class work.

Really easy course as long as you read the textbook. The course being mainly online meant it wasn't the end of the world if you missed a lecture. That being said his lectures were fun and are totally worth it.

LOVE RODNEY!!!! if you put in the work, he marks fair and you will do so well. There are two 20 mins presentations worth 30% (with a partner), and couple papers, and discussion posts for every class. no midterm/final! He is soooooo fun to listen to, my fav class, definitely recommend!! best 400 seminar to take !

Rodney is amazing! He is knowledgable about the course and is caring towards his students. You do need to read the textbook and participate in class. If you keep skipping class, you will lose participation marks. He wants his students to succeed. His quizzes are fair and not super difficult.

Professor Schmaltz is AMAZING! Even though I took his class online, he replies to emails fairly quickly, sends out weekly emails to see how everyone is doing and constantly telling people that he is available through his virtual office hours. Everything is through Revel so there are a lot of reading and quizzes Grades easily and exams are openbook

Rodney was an amazing professor. Although the class was online he was very responsive to emails and provided virtual office hours. The course itself was really easy and relatable to everyday life. The modules were concise and he marked really easy on the assignments. Would definitely take him again for any psych course!

He actually cares about students especially because of covid. His notes are very clear and his tests where fair. His notes correlate with the textbook so that helped him there were other questions

Best professor I've had. There's 9 chapters to go through and a quiz, assignment and concept checks due every week. Easy to get through but the e-book is mandatory. He grades super easy and fairly and there's extra lectures if you want it. He even gives you an extra 3% on the final and midterm if you complete practice tests that arent for marks :)

He's the best professor I have ever had in this term. I felt challenge when I have to keep up working at night shift and school, which I ended up not doing so good on the midterm. He was sympathetic and gave me advice when I told him I have been disorganised because of my situation. I will forever be grateful to Dr. Schmaltz.

All the psychology courses are online and the professor you choose doesn't matter, at least not this term (they all follow the exact same structure). Read the textbook really well and complete the activities for each chapter, you don't need much else for this course (just a looot of reading). Office hours and extra resources were available.

He is an amazing teacher. His lectures were incredible. I watched him like he was a TV show. He is approachable. The exams were online. You need to read the textbook. He provides you with chapter summaries. There were 5 discussions (4% each). He even offered to waive the 1st discussion and transfer the weight to the rest. One easy assignment (10%).

Awesome class and awesome professor. Rod gives great lectures, he's knowledgable, caring, funny and helpful. This special topics class involved 2 partner presentations, 2 partner assignments a paper and participation via email each class. He marks easy and overall it was a fun seminar!

This was a decent class, there was very little information on notes and so much textbook reading. You basically have to read the whole textbook and teach yourself. Your grade is only based on 2 midterms and a final, which is scary but the tests are super easy. The lectures were fun and interactive, and he really funny and actually made me laugh.

I enjoyed this class with him and Hamilton and overall I found it to be not very difficult. The only thing I despised about the class was the textbook readings since the chapters are way too long and such a pain to read since it takes up most of your time and is hard to keep up with when you have other classes.

Shockingly easy for a 400 level seminar. Would've loved more of a challenge on some of the material, but the course was really fun and easy, just come to class! It would've been nice to have had like a topic proposal or something before the final paper, as it's in an unusual format for a psych class.

Had Schmaltz alongside Hamilton for 104, and honestly had a fun time learning Psychology because of them. The midterms leading up to the final were all fair, you can manage without the textbook but if you are willing to read the textbook alongside the lecture material, you would do really well. Schmaltz was hilarious and engaging, would take again.

Dr. Schmaltz is an entertaining and funny lecturer. This class was easy with him. You can get an A+ with two hours of study time per chapter, I assure you. The exams were basic and not very in depth. Overall very easy course

He makes the lectures engaging and easy to stay focused to. The exams are very text book heavy but pretty simple as long as you read it, the textbook is necessary to do good in this class.

Attendance isn't mandatory but you will need to show up to do good on the exams as he often says things that will be on the exam that aren't in the slides, he also posts half done slides with very little info and explains them in the lecture so you do need to show up sometimes, he's a good prof and the class is easy if you read the textbook.

This class is very presentation-heavy, but that's the point, given it's meant to prepare honours and independent study students for SRD, grad school, etc. If you show up and do your best, you will succeed, as Rodney is a fair marker, but get ready to do lots of public speaking.

The group projects of this special topics course were a little irritating at times because there weren't checks and balances in place to ensure everyone was doing their part, but overall, the class was easy to do well in. Rod is a chill prof and has engaging lectures as well as guest lecturers. You do have to go to every class for participation!

I took his course online, so I never met him. All the quizzes/exams/assignments were related to the videos he posted and the textbook he used. Since it was online, examinations were open book. The videos he would post were very clear and he used a lot of real life examples which helped me remember them.
