He is a pain. he gives difficult/meaningless assinments.
I feel his grading his fair maybe little hard but that helps the student to get prepare for the next English. He also encourages his students to come by his office hours to help them in their writing. So, I have to disagree with the other comments.
He's a fun teacher, in my opinion. Every day to start off the class we shared "favorites" to take attendance. His class is a breeze if you already know the basic fundamentals of writing college english papers.
he is a great teacher his class is so easy. i recommend him to anyone. hes very cheerful and is an all round great teacher.
This class was not stressful at all. There is no tests or finals in this class. Graded work is only the papers and you can even go to his office for a paper conf to receive a better grade on this. Do this and you will end up with at least a B in hisclass
Hes such an awesome teacher and a genius writer. He teachs you the essence about writing.. i loved having him twice.. made going through english very easy before going into UF..I would definately recommend him..
Maintains an informal atmosphere in class and encourages students to express their opinions. I highly recommend him.
Rodney Woehler is one of my all time favorite instructors. He is a highly intelligent person, but very laid back, humorous, friendly, and approachable. His lectures cover and explain the material, and then go beyond. Awesome guy.
good class. grading was a bit controversial so go to him and ask for help.

Absolutely wonderful teacher and person. I hated english and never have been good at it but I enjoyed going to his class and I got a good grade. Has a great outlook on life. Love the "Favorites" at the beginning of class.
mr. woehler is a really great guy. he's funny and entertaining. he likes to talk and tell stories and get everyone involved. sometimes his grading is a little on the hard side, but fair. i recommend his journalism class also.
My favorite teacher so far at sfcc. He is nice and will help you on your papers. The 20 or so minutes spent on the roll in the mornings are always great, and make class not so boring. Fair when grading papers
woehler is awesome, so easy and helpful. very clear i give him an a+++++
Great Teacher. Doesn't mind helping you out at all. I think I have been in his office three or four times this semester. Very laid back, and funny.
Excellent teacher.Fun classes.Very relpfull with exchange students
Great teacher, easy to understand, Rod is laid back, comes to class most of the times in sandals and shorts. Do your homework, put forth some effort, you got it made...
he believes in grade inflation, by the first class he decids who he thinks gets an "A" almost all of my friends in that class got the same grade on their papers wether or not they tried...so I wouldnt take him...I got a B in the class and I was very upset I tried to talk to him but to no prevail...
My dad kicks a**. I have heard nothing but good comments about him. He might be a bit of a tough grader, but he does the same to my papers that I write for school. That will help you in the long run.
This dude is cool but he may have a little sugar in his tank. I have no clue why we had to watch The Unbearable Lightness of Being(maybe he knows something we dont). overall... I mean the guy is a goof... give him a shot. you may end up taking his journalism class.
Not too hard, but not too easy either. As long as you put in effort to study, do the writing assignments, and ask questions, not that hard. Class is very laid back and relaxed.
DO NOT take him. He is very unclear and non-specific about assignments. You will have many papers due at the end of the semester. He gives you relatively the same grade on all papers so what you get on your 1st paper is usually about what you will get on the rest.
cool teacher, would take him again, but i really got nothing out of the class. I dont think i am a better or worse writer than before, so if you are good at writing, take him, if you want help with writing, dont take him
Do NOT take him for 1102! He doesn't explain anything clear. His grading is inefficient; he'll give you an 80 on one paper...the next one you'll get an 86 (even though you didn't really change anything)....then an 81, then a high 80. Class is extremely BORING! Only excitement is favorites-thank god!
good guy. handsome and sexy, in a mysterious kinda way. i wonder why he chose the unbearable lightless of being...hmmm (like i said, HOTNESS)
I became a better writer because he was always willing to help. He loves what he does.
This guy was out of his mind. If you want your money to be wasted then he is for you other wise AVOID. The class is the same favorites for 20min then he talks the rest. All assaignments were given the last 2 weeks.
What a weird guy. I will say this--the class is easy
Ignore the bad comments. I'll admit he's eccentric as hell but if you show up to his class and follow ALL of his instructions, you won't have a problem. He'll actually help you to become a better writer!
I agree with the person under me. He is an awesome teacher. He's very easy and is extreemly helpful. He makes it so you actually want to go to class. As long as you keep an open mind-you'll enjoy the class. PLUS there wern't any tests or anything! Just do the writings and you'll be ok!
Weird guy. He doesnt actually teach anything. Take MMC from any other professor. You will hate journalism if you take his class.
This guy was a complete ass! He never checked his email so when I miss a week of classes for a very good and sad reason, he said i was lying. He gave a bunch of kids in my class 89's just so we would not get A's. All of the assignments came in the last two weeks and he always has bad breath and smells like smoke. Do not take him unless wasting $$$.
hot in a cool older guy way... he has a wonderful way of describing things. that may sound strange, but take his class and you will know. Great job teaching in class if you pay attention. I am taking him for ENC1102.
Absolutely one of the best teachers I have ever had!! The class is pretty easy. He helps you out a lot on your stories and really wants you to do well. His tests are not hard at all. He tells you EVERYTHING that is going to be on them. I highly recommend taking this class. He's hyserical and just a cool person:)
he is an interesting and friendly guy. His class is relatively easy...once you understand the way he works/grades. If you really want to LEARN and UNDERSTAND journalism, I suggest choosing a different professor.
He is a very nice guy, loves what he does, but I can't say I learned all that much in his class. I do think my writing has improved some, so that's a plus. But if your looking to learn something take another teacher, if you want an interesting and fun class this is the guy to take.
He was a pretty good teacher I can't complain too much about his class. The class itself was easy, but you have to show up to class and pay attention to it. You have to write a lot of essays but they weren't hard at all. I would take him again if I could. Good guy!
No good. He is extremely ****ed. In literature, he found a way with EVERYTHING that we read to turn it into something sexual. He made us watch a horribly graphic movie and write 2 papers on it. His papers are pretty easy, but he refuses to give anyone an A, no matter how good the paper is. Freaky guy. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!
I think he is a GREAT teacher..this class is so easy and if you dont pass then your are an idiot. all you have to do is go to class and write SIMPLE essays. Hes really funny too. This is an awesome teacher!
Are you wondering why this teacher has some great ratings and some real bad ones? It's because he plays favorites (and I was on the good list). He also doesn't lecture. Not at all a favorite of mine. This was a Teach-YOURSELF Journalism class.
This is not a class where you will be able to track your grade throughout the semester. Papers are never back on time. When you go to class look at the student across the room, make friends with them because STUDENTS GRADE STUDENT TESTS. There is no lecture. For the tests, whatever he points out in the chapter... MEMORIZE! That is your test!
Poop on the people who didn't like him. Maybe he plays favorites a tiny bit, but you have every opportunity to be one of them. The work is somewhat challenging, but still doable. Ya gotta do the essays, but you don't have to do the other written work. Nice, funny, open, and relaxed guy. Highly recommended to everyone!
you can do it but its a lot of work. the essays are okay but the tests are crazy. if you decide to take this class, memorize the chapters for your first test. this text is what screws everyone. i think if you do okay on it, you can pull a good grade in the class. as a person this teacher is the best, as far as grades its doable but a lot of hard wo
Wonderful teacher, my personal favorite. And despite what other people have said, I thought he was very fair. You must complete every paper to pass the class, but they aren't incredibly challenging. I took him for 1101 and 1102 and got an A on every single paper. Plus, he's really laid back and funny, and kinda attractive in an offbeat way.
I didn't like this professor. To me, we are in college to learn, not to read pointless short stories and answer questions. Nor should we have to do assignments from his journalism classes when he runs out of ideas for his english classes. He was not helpful, and getting him to answer emails does not happen, and don't expect your papers back.
I HATE HIM! So rude! Picks favs. No help! If you miss more than 2 classes your grade drops! Unfair grader. Avoid at all cost! But, nice guy outside of class. Funny, tells lots of stories. But ur in school for a good grade not a funny teacher-- do not take
I am iffy on this professor. he is interesting in an offbeat way. It is true that he plays favorites, but not necessarily in grading-just in treatment of students. His tests are basically memorizing the lists and keywords in the book. Knowing this, I did fine. Students grade tests, and you can go to him to change any unfair grading.
Good guy, interesting and funny. His teaching style not so much but he does get the point across. I am not really interested in journalism so the class is great for me because its easy memorization and the papers are easy. He lets you make up late work if your not lying about the reason it is late. Once again good guy, easy class! Take it.
EASY because you dont have to attend class because all you do is go over what you read the night before. He grades his papers tough BUT you end up with extra credit because he takes so long to give them back. Very funny. No final exam just do all the papers he assigns.
Great, funny, interesting professor! WIsh he taught higher level english! TAKE HIM!!!
He's a great teacher. Funny guy, made cracks at this annoying kid... That was hilarious. He grades tough, but it makes you a better writer. Just show up for class and do your homework and you'll pass. He says you can only miss 3 classes but I think I missed 5 and he didn't mind. Take him.
Great teacher. A bit dry some days, very fun Other days. Always side tracks and is very good at keeping you interested. Listens to everyones opinions! Good Feedback. Sometime will be a tad unclear, but you can ask for him to reexplain everything.
He is a very cool teacher hes funny, nice, and makes class interesting. He grades a little bit hard but if you are good at writing essays and put enough time into them you will be fine; the lowest score i got on one of my papers was a 76. I definitly recommend taking him, you will enjoy his class. and as far as attendance it is required but you
really helpfull teacher especially if english is not your first language he gives you ideas and help you to write better and in proper way and no final exam!!!just write papers, he is never rude always had a smile on his face!!get to know him he is really awsomeee!!!
This man plays favorites, and talks too little about learning. He hardly hands anything out, and will not write assign. on board but 1/4 the time, you are always unsure about when the essays + homework are due. He has a strict grading policy, and his essay topics are difficult to write on. IMPOSSIBLE to reach in e-mail, PLAYS FAVORITES! (cont.)
Though he says that you should contact him through e-mail. But he is a somewhat nice guy (when not playing favorites) and is funny. I think I'd have a LONG talk with him about respect before I would take his classes again. But even though, I am considering taking another class of his. He is dynamic! I just don't know what I am learning from him?!?
very good teacher! only assignments are really reading short stories (which he goes over and explains) from the book and writing an essay on them. he will come in early before class to help you with your paper. Few writing assignments from handbook. goes off subject sometimes n tells funny stories. attendance is mandatory though and no final exam!
This professor is an easy teacher as long as you stay focused and ask him to help you. Probably the easiest teacher, and no final.
Definitely plays favorites and is sometimes rude. Only took his class because I had to. Attendance is mandatory and never answers e-mails. Corny jokes and boring class. Not taking him again.
He's a really nice guy, I always have a good time in his class. I dont think he plays favorites at all, i dont know why people are saying that. His assignments arent too diffucult but like any class they require focus and study time. He is always willing to look over essays during his office hours. I would def have him as a professor again!
He's not helpful at all. He lost one of my exams and didn't really look for it till the last day (the final) and when I had a terrible fever he made me take it over. All he does is talk nonesense in class which can be fun but you don't really learn much. I was really upset about the way he handled my missing exam, he didn't really seem to care.
Fun class, especially opening 10 to 15 minutes. Tells funny stories and is into cooking. Tests are from book. He gives you a nice review beforehand but they are written tests and you have to know your stuff. Assignments are good. Laid back atmosphere but you have to earn a good grade; it won't come without trying. He's a nice guy.
His class was horrible. I would not recomend him. He grades quite hard and doesn't really teach. All we have in the class is essays. he just averages those grades and that is your grade. Most of the student got a C or lower. He is a nice guy but his class is a joke.
Awesome teacher. He doens't way you down with pointless assingments and quizes. As long as you show up and do your papers on time, you will be fine. He expects you to know a little bit about grammer though, but you're a college student so get used to it. The only negative thing is he responds a little late to emails due to the slaty dog.
he's a terrible teacher. probably about 5 or 6 days out of the semester were teaching days. other than that, he just goofs around with the students. he plays favorites. if you're not obnoxiously fun, he doesnt pay you much attention. he's cool but not as a teacher. you really have to prepare for tests on your own, bc he doesnt teach the material
I was considering majoring in Journalism and decided not to after taking this class. I really did not learn very much. Attendance is necessary. He enjoys telling stories (a LOT). Made an A in the class...but wish I could have gotten more out of it!
Avoid if possible. All he does is tell stories that don't relate to anything. Also have to watch some Vulger movie. Makes you write papers and grades extremly hard. Only C at SFC ever. I dont recomend him.
Ok, he doesn't give you busy work, but he expects you to write well. He may grade a little harder than most teachers, but I would rather that than 40 hours of bs assignments. I got a B in his class and honestly could have tried a little harder. Also, everyone in my class did fairly well. A few A's and b's but mostly C's. He's a good teacher. Ben
VERY GOOD TEACHER! Def recommend, helps out alot!
if you know how to write well, its an easy class. he expects you to know how to write in a reporting way. he doesnt teach you much. its just based on what you already know. but if you ask him for help , he will go over your paper and fix it for you.
Class has about 4 tests, 3 papers (or 4 depending) and a few assignments for in class in between. Gives you time during class to write papers. Has a sense of humor, definitely isn't a boring teacher. I would recommend him.
The good: Professor Woehler teaches Journalism in its purest form. He expects you to write without unnecessary adornments or exagerations. He likes papers that are consice. He is also very passionate about Journalism, and therefore disgusted by the current degradation of US media. The bad: Extremely opinionated and somewhat coceited. I wouldn'ttake
Mr. Woehler was awesome. He spends class time helping you understand the homework and gives plenty of time to get help and understand the material before you write your papers.
He is truly a great english teacher who conveys information to students in a manner conducive to learning. HOWEVER..... you better have impeccable grammar or your essay scores will drop quickly.
He's not horrible but he does expect you to already know how to really understand editing papers. He has a really strong opinion, but he tells some humorous stories. I thought I was a good writer til I got to this class and I got C's on every paper! The tests aren't bad as long as you are there for the reviews and study before.
Mr. Woehler is a very good journalism professor. Don't expect him to sugarcoat things when he edits your papers. He's a tough grader but UF is worse, so get used to it. Know your basic grammar rules or don't take his class... period! It's college, not high school. He can go off on tangents, but it's all in fun. He keeps the class interesting.
He is a great guy, funny and honest. We had 5 papers due and some home work. He is willing to help if you seek him out. I got quite a few As but I worked my butt off for it. The C I got a truly deserved. Take him if you want to have a fun learning experience. Most of what you read in his class you read in others. oh we watched a movie too
Although it isn't too hard to earn good grades on his tests, his papers are graded very hard. Know the notes he verbally gives you in class, since they are exactly what's on each test. Be sure to add up the points you earned/he counted off on tests because multiple times he has miscalculated the scores, which made a whole letter difference for me.
He is quite a character. He is witty and has a odd sense of humor but it made it fun to go to class, especially in the summer. His tests are really easy, just pay attention to what he says in class. Check over your papers with a style book before handing them in cuz even though he grades fair, he grades tough on those.
Just isn't all that great.
The catch here is to understand his style and the way he approaches the material.Do ur HW if want to avoid quiz mode. Easy going, very funny. He doesn't make the class tedious. Put a lot of thought on your essays. The movie he puts at the end of the semester is optional. A great film if ur not close minded. Even kids watch worst things these days!
He is the biggest space cadet! He tests you on material BEFORE he (poorly) teaches it to you, and those grades count! If you really have an interest in learning all about journalism, or want to learn how to write good news stories, forget it in this class! (I would suggest Romina Gutierrez) More then 3 absences he'll dock you a letter grade
I think he's a great teacher. He's a lot of fun to have. He's really witty and I usually liked the stories we read and his opinions on them. The papers can be a little hard, but they're possible. He's got a great sense of humor and I like how laid back he is. One of my favorite classes this semester.
He is extremely funny which makes class interesting. His teaching methods are different, very different. He teaches by telling stories of his own personal experience. But overall I really enjoyed taking his class. & I LOVE how he takes attendance
One of the very best teachers I ever had. Most knowledgeable with a great sense of humor. Willing to go out of his way to help with ALL issues. Now that I took his class I am taking next class with him.
Got an A! Pay attention 2 assignments, go 2 writing lab, turn n papers ON TIME, and attend every class. This teacher expects effort! He will help u if needed. 5 papers total for Fall B. HW is worth 10%. Papers are the other 90%. Very knowledgeable of English. Jokes around n class so ask questions if u want answers! Final was n class paper.
He is an odd teacher, yet I did learn quite a bit from him. This is not an easy class because he does grade pretty hard on the stories, but this is college and he grades how UF would so get used to it. Pay attention to his lecture about the tests because it is exactly whats on them. Lastly, be VERY familiar with grammar, it will help you a lot.
He's very odd. He jokes around a lot which makes the class kind of interesting.Liked the way he took attendance. He's a very tough grader on the stories and always told us that at UF we could lose a lot of points for mistakes on the stories. He barely teaches at all. I learned some, but wish I could have learned more since Journalism is my major.
Do not take this teacher. One of the worst teachers I have had at any school. If you want to actually learn something take someone who knows what they're talking about. Spends 3 hours teaching a class that should probably only take 30 minutes.
This teacher is not helpful at all! Very strict on his papers without clarity on how to do better. One of the most apathetic teachers I've ever had. I want the time he wasted back.
Very boring class! All he does in class is re read the stories aloud that he gave as homework. Gives low grades on papers without explaining the prompt well. Speaks on inappropriate things a lot. If you have no sense of humor do not take him. Over all would not recommend.
Do not recommend, doesn't teach well at all and does not explain grading.
Class overall was ok. The papers were sometimes hard because he's unclear with what he wants, but if you want a good grade def go to his office for help. Hw is just questions from the stories he assigns. He's weird too.
Overall a poor professor. He's very vague and ambiguous, and never gives a straight answer. His absence policy is too strict; after 2 absences, every absence docks your grade a letter grade. He's also not very accommodating when it comes to medical related absences. He counted days I was in the hospital as unexcused absences. Would not recommend.
Take this Professor. He is very helpful and funny. He has a strict attendance policy so try not to miss class at all. Also 90% of your grade is essays. So if you're not so great at writing i would advise you not to take this class
Ok class, he's super weird though. 4 essays, each 1/4 of your grade. Sometimes it was boring because he takes the time to explain the whole poem or story we're doing line by line. It would have been more interesting to write about other issues. I learned more about grammar than anything else. Get brownie points for going to the office hours.
He's a really nice person. I was the only one who received am A on anything in the class because I sucked to him majorly and everyone was fairly certain that he had a thing for me. Definitely suck up to him and go to his office hours every day until the essay is due, don't depend on the writing lab. Don't be absent and do NOT give him any attitude.
Mr. Woehler seems intimidating at first but he's actually really funny. There are no tests or quizzes* and no final, but you have to write four essays (1000 words, not novels, alright?) and *turn in homework or it's Quiz Mode. The curriculum isn't super fun, but since most people take it for the credit anyway, who cares? Take Woehler. He's awesome.
Professor Woehler is a cool guy and super chill with his students. Grammar is a big deal so proof read your essays. No tests, quizzes, or final, just four 1,000 word essays &hw. He really helps one on one if you go to his office. Very friendly and funny yet respectable. Also, if you pay attention in class it'll really help your essays. Take him! :)
Take him! He is very through in lecture and loves to make it a good time. He does not give quizzes unless the majority of people don't do their homework--you don't even get a lot of homework. You do a total of 4 papers. You do not have a final. Take this class because you won't regret it.
This guy grades your papers like his life depends on it, he will find every single error in it. He brings your grade down A LOT, even when you go to his office hours, he barely even helps.
Professor Woehler was a good teacher but he grades harshly. The class was actually not too boring and I felt like I got to know the other students in the class because of his daily questions. Also he is a nice guy so if you are struggling go to his office hours, he will help you.
Very inspirational guy. A great professor. His Summer A class was very old fashioned (just a chalk board, no online stuff, nothing) and I really liked that. Finds a way to explain the elements of what we read clearly and how it relates to real life. He's very interesting, and if you go to him for help on essays, you will pass! Take him!
Never ever stays on topic or does the required curiquilum for class. It makes class feel pointless but he has the worst attendance policy. You can only miss twice. If you miss more you literally cannot pass.
I absolutely loved his class. He helped the students think deeply about the reading material and it opened up many different perspectives on literature that I didn't notice before. The reading material was interesting as well as classic and timeless. I would highly suggest taking his class.
You need to attend class because points will be taken off of your final grade if you miss more than two classes. Though you learn little to almost nothing in this class you have to attend class in order to not fail. Other then the three papers we had to write, that were poorly graded, I'm not sure what the class grade consist of.
The guy is an intelligent dude but good lord, he is probably the absolute most monotonous professor I've ever had. Same exact thing every single day... Attendance is strict which is unfortunate because his classes are pointless unless you're turning something in that day. Basically you just sit and listen to him analyze paragraphs, day after day.
Mr. Woehler is the most boring and irritating professor I have ever had. All he does is analyze the most boring stories with this horrible monotonous voice. He grades essays like his life depends on it. Not even sure how I was able to pass this class.
He was condesending and lectures were boring. Want to learn grammar rules you learned in seventh grade all over again? Go to class, which by the way is mandatory. Really tough grader- went to office hours and got almost no grade improvement on the next essay (and little to no clarity on how you got the grade you got).
One of the most pretentious people I have ever met. If you want to sit in class and listen to this guy blabber about irrelevant stories, then BE MY GUEST! He goes into specific details when talking about hypothetical situations and we really don't do anything in class!
He thinks he is better than everyone else. There is always something wrong with everything you write. I'd never made anything below an A on a college paper. I made a C on the 1st paper in this class. He talks about useless nonsense that makes you want to bang your head on the wall the entire class. Unless you have to have journalism, dont take him.
No tests ever, just 4 papers all 1,000words. Miss More then 3 classes might as well withdraw. Lectures are kinda boring but he is humorous. Don't do hw? Get ready for "quiz mode" do hw your all good. Grades papers harshly so pay attention to what he asks for.
Professor Woehler says you get 3 absences and he means it. If you miss anymore your grade will drop a letter. He is funny, but we don't really learn anything. He doesn't teach you HOW to write correctly, he just EXPECTS you to write correctly. It's a shame that there is only one professor for journalism at Santa Fe. Also go to office hours.
I don't understand all the dislike for Professor Woehler. He is an excellent English teacher, and his grades are very fair. If you do not write well, he is more than happy to show you your mistakes. I guess people don't like him because he expects you to pay attention to your mistakes and actively correct them. Take him if you love English.
He challenges you yet doesn't forget the importance of encouragement. Woehler really cares about his students and tries to get to know them from day one. He gave us 3 papers for our entire grade, which I rather appreciated. I always looked forward to his class, and I'm sad I won't have him again.
The lectures are him reading over the literary pieces line by line, sometimes multiple times. The papers aren't necessarily hard, but do yourself a favor and edit them 4-5 times, like he asks. Attend his office hours and get him to correct your paper. This made all the difference! Participating makes the time go by much faster!
His ENC1102 class is not difficult. His grading is not harsh and if you show up to class and do your homework, which is not much at all, you'll pass. The bad thing about his class is that he REPEATS everything he says. It's like listening to a CD stuck on the same track every lecture. Other then that,he's a nice guy that wants you to succeed.
This class is the worst class that i've taken in college. He hates technology and wont post when things are due or at least put them in the syllabus so you have to guess. Doesn't cover over things for tests spends most of the time saying lame joke or blabbering on about nothing Journalism related. Wouldn't recommend.
I liked Professor Woehler, I just wasn't prepared for the fact that my entire grade would come from 3-4 papers. If you are fantastic at writing papers, then this is a breeze. If not, I suggest you look for a different 1102 class that will give you a variety of assignments. He does assign weekly reading questions but he does not grade them.
You will only do 3-4 papers for the semester and these are essentially your only grades. He is very helpful and gives fantastic feedback on your essays. You can only have 3 absences without losing credit but for the minimal amount of work required it's so worth it.
The worst professor I had at Santa Fe. He did not teach. He just stood at the front and told stories. When you go to ask for help, your not really going to get any. IMO he's way too pretentious for someone who teaches at a community college.
Prof Woehler is the best Professor i've ever had. Easy class to pass as long as you show up to class and type your 3 papers for the course.
Hes funny and nice, but his lectures are boring and he doesnt really teach you how to write good papers. Didnt learn anything from this class. It was just 3 papers and your whole grade comes from that. Hes too laid back he comes off as sloppy. Avoid
He is just strange. I tried to take notes, but I as miserably bored, and I love English
got a B plus and worked so hard on the papers. he would only help those students he liked the most or who participated the most. I felt like he made fun of me during the whole semester. You'll probably have to take it because he is the only professor teaching this course at santa fe college, try to avoid taking him . TEST ARE SUPER EASY, papers not
I had Professor Woehler for ENC1102 and LIT1000, he tells funny stories and explains what he expects well, but I didn't enjoy the stories he wanted us to read, and he does grade really hard on the papers. I was a pretty good writer through high school but he made me feel like I overestimated myself and got really discouraged about my writing
