Mr. Andrade is young and eager to teach. He is willing to work out every problem if you ask him too. He does assign nightly homework which he collects as a packet before each test. He gives take home quizes which he ends up doing in class. He gives 4 exams but drops your lowest score at the end of the semester! Overall great teacher.
very good instructor. In class he explains very well, and the amount of hw is doable. He also, gives a very helpful study guide/take-home quiz. The exams are fair and reflect lecture, hw, and study guide. He curves exams and drops the lowest! He is everywhere, he teaches stats and college algebra at Delta and college algebra at MJC.
I tools his stats class at Diablo Valley College and he was a great teacher. Tests are very easy and based off of take home quizzes, lectures and little homework that is due before each exam (there are 4 including the final which is cumulative). He grades easy, curves and then drops your lowest test. Sometimes he can say one thing & write another.
Very hard to understand. Talks really fast with a heavy spanish accent. Teaches at a fast pace and expects you to follow along. A very nice guy, but not a teacher that really cares about you passing. Cares more about challenging the student. In my opinion, not a good teacher.
Mr. Andrade is a very good teacher. I love everything about his teaching methods, to homework load, to grading policy. Towards the end of semester he was advised to increase amount of homework and that created some difficulty. My only issue was adding more to the final and not fully preparing students for the shock. Thus my final grade was a 65 %.
Fast paced class! Fast talker! at least 2 ch. a night. If you don't have a good understanding of math already this is NOT the class for you! All homework is done on webassign, tons of it! 3 exams, final counts for 50% overall grade. Test are hard & don't reflect hw or quizzes! No getting out early & he has no control over our loud obnoxious class!
Hard!!!!
Andrade is a good instructor. His lectures are step by step. A lot of homework. He responds fast to emails.
Andrade is extremely flexible when it comes to make up tests and helping with homework. Always happy to answer questions. He has a tendency to move quickly through material and assigns a fair amount of homework, but gives sufficient time to complete it (about a week per chapter).Overall a solid professor that really cares about helping students
I previously failed math 90 with a professor that didnt do a good job at explaining the material. Prof Andrade was very good at making sure everyone's questions were answered. If the student needed more instruction he would stay after class to help. Very helpful! I would def take another course with him.
Everything is great except for the amount of homework given for the credit its worth... Basic algebra homework he assigns online and each question is a 3-fold problem with an average of 50 in each section. Also, each problem is only worth 1 point each. Quizzes are harsh, tons of points can be lost on one problem for a number of reasons.
very detailed when explaining the material. will explain things if you dont get it. a lot of homework but he curves it and its not too bad if you stay on top of it. plus it helps you know the material
The Good:Very Personable and helpul, shows in-depth steps for problems, No book needed (Mymathlab required, though), gives preview tests that show what's on real test(but they are LONG and are worth points), his accent was never a problem, gives extra credit, will stay after class to help you. The Bad: 40-50 question tests, writes notes fast.
I LOVE THIS TEACHER!!! He was a great math teacher. I came into this class feeling intimidated and he made me feel confident and prepared for all tests. Mr. Andrade was always more than willing to answer any questions and provided great reviews for all exams. He graded fairly and made sure to help his students succeed. A++
It was an enjoyable class and a cool professor but I did not even up passing because he spent too much time on review of math 70 than teaching math 90. Every night after class I became more and more confused and the amount of hw we received did not help one bit. I felt overwhelmed and always 10 steps behind
Great teacher! Explains everything clearly, and answers any questions until you fully understand. There is homework, but he doesn't assign anything too hard. Very enjoyable class.
WOULD TAKE HIM FOR AN EASY GRADE. DOESNT USE THE BOOK. HOMEWORK, QUIZZES ONLINE. VERY BORING TO SIT IN HIS CLASS. HAD HIM OVER THE SUMMER DIDN'T NEED TO GO TO CLASS EVEN THOUGH HE WANTED US TO. HE JUST LECTURED AND MOST STUDENT DID HOMEWORK ONLINE DURING HIS CLASS.
I would not suggest this instructor unless you can pretty much teach yourself. He's a nice man and all but doesn't really teach, doesn't explain the math problems. A ton of homework, doesn't go over the exam after getting back the results so you can understand your errors. No extra credit at all. The math book is a waste of money, no help.
WORST math teacher ever. This guy does not give a care in the world if you pass his class or not. Hours of homework every night, when the homework hardly counts, long study guides for tests that he doesn't go over. He flies through lessons, and talks really fast. Expect to be super confused at the end of each class. *two thumbs down*
Loved this teacher!! Sometimes he was difficult to understand, but he always tried to keep clarifying until you understand. It seems like he really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. His study guides go along with the exams. Homework is online, and sometimes there's a lot, but it's pretty easy.
He is a very hard teacher. If you want to pass this class i would suggest taking it by itself. There is a lot of homework so it takes a lot of time. Almost all of my classmates failed or were close to failing. I would suggest going to his office hours for questions, because that is when he is the most helpful.
This teacher was extremely hard. Even though I passed with a B, it was a grade I had to more than work for. If you struggle in math I wouldn't take this teacher. He uses mymathlab and he assigns an obscene amount of homework. His study guides are horrendous and his review guide for the final was thirty pages long. I would avoid at all costs.
I got a B in Math 70 but failed his class. Homework is 2,572 problems on MyMathLab, 15 page review for each chapter and 30 page review for final. No time to even open the book-he goes very fast in class. Out of 38 enrolled only 4 passed class. HW and quizzes-15% of grade, Exams 55% of grade and final-30% of grade. This class was a joke.
Wonderful teacher. Very helpful. Taking over summer for six weeks.. very difficult. However, I feel very confident that I will pass because he really tries to clarify everything and there are so many resources available. LOTS of homework. It is helpful though. DO NOT GET BEHIND ON ANYTHING. Overall, great teacher.
Great teacher. He does assign a lot of homework, so the workload can be intense, but he has an understandable teaching style and is very nice. He also assigns partial credit on the tests for the problems you get a few steps correct on even if you get the wrong answer, making it much easier to pass the tests.
Good professor, assigns a lot of homework but it can be done if the class is taken by itself (which If you struggle at math I suggest you do), assigns partial credit on test and was not bad overall like some reviews on here would have you believe.
Terrible. Worst math teacher at MJC. Very hard to understand what he is saying because he speaks at a rocket pace with a very heavy accent. Taught only by examples, didn't explain anything. EXCESSIVE homework assignments.
Not really a good teacher. Very nice, but teaching style are different and poor. Tests were hard. I recommend Payvar. He teaches better and shows shortcuts. Also the long class periods don't help much. Also he is a PART time teacher so doesn't have much office hours. Don't take him. There are better teachers out there.
the class is an easy pass if you listen
I love his class he is a good teacher makes sure we understand before he moves on but very important you do your homework so you practice more of what he teaches overall I think he's a great teacher but you do have to do your part as well just like in every class I definitely want him for my next class
I don't care for algebra but I do not have much choice. Prof Andrade is a great teacher, some of the subject was difficult to grasp but he made it fun to learn. He gives so many opportunities to maximize your grade that I almost felt guilty. All reviews were very close to exam material.
wasnt helpful to me
Hard to understand. Speaks extremely fast. Appreciate that he used color coded markers for each step on the white board, because it was the only saving grace to keep up. Tons of homework, difficult tests, tons of information in each lecture.
Doesnt care about his students. just does his job and it is blatantly apparent.
Hard Class
The class is not an easy A. But, he respects his students enough to let them succeed or fail at their own will. If you actually want to learn, he is one of the best teachers you can have.
Cool guy, cares that you understand the math. If you don't understand or you can't follow the speed or accent, SPEAK UP. He doesn't know if you dont ask. Lots of homework, but do the practice exams! They definitely give insight as to what the exam will look like. Don't miss class to stay on track. Just barely scraped by!
I am not good at math and found this class hard. The homework was online, and there were about 40 problems for each section. He has packets for every chapter that are helpful if you do them because similar problems can be on the test. The packets have many problems though, and are due on the day of the exam.
Andrade was a professor that expects more than 100% from you he gives study guides that don't Have answers along with them so you won't know whether you've done the problem correctly... I would avoid taking him if you struggle with math
He usually doesn't seem like he knows what he is teaching. When he grades test, he takes points off for no reasons at all and you can't read his writing, on the board or on test feedback. Wouldn't recommend for a professor.
One of the best teachers out there. He truly cares about his students. The class is not an easy A because you have to work for it, but if you keep up with the homework you will be fine. Tests are no that hard, just study!
Man, as a straight A student this guy ruins it. He shouldn't even be staffed considering his teaching skills are almost transparent. Expect to do homework. Expect him to lecture and speak in nothing but hypothetical language, and expect him to clarify absolutely nothing, as he'll usually tell you "look in your notes". NEVER AGAIN.
Best Stats teacher at MJC. This is my second time taking stats and it makes sense. Gives handouts. Exams are hard, HARD, but he does a good review.
I don't know if he doesn't prepare for his class or what his deal is but he seems lost half the time. Does a horrible job explaining things. When asked about certain problems he'll suggest you skip the question rather than explaining it, same thing with exams, he tells you to just skip a 10 point question. Study guides are useless don't even help
Math has always been very hard for me but this professor makes math understandable, like I actually get what I'm doing. Going to lectures is worth it, must be there to get it! He is open to questions and willing to help with hard problems. Would definitely take him again!
Go over the notes; the packets. DO the review Exams ahead to have time to study them. Do all the HW (Labs/Online/ReviewExamPackets) and the extra credit. He's speak fast so DO NOT GET DISTRACTED. Ask questions like if you didn't understand the steps to code a problem on the Graph calculator. Make friends/group. The book is online. Chill Professor.
Love Professor Andrade. Took him in the summer for Elementary Algebra. Since I took it in the summer it was pretty fast paced. He gives study guides for the exam and all of the homework is online. You do have to come to class. He's really straight forward and tells you exactly what he's looking for. He is usually available when you need him.
He is great with telling you what he expects and how to get that A. He explains things in a way that is easier for me to understand and I normally hate math. I have taken his class 3 times and have passed every time. He is great at his job and willing to go over things for you again if you don't understand. You wont regret taking him.
I took professor Andrade for math 90 and math 134. He is really good for lower level math! I took him for 90 and passed, but took him for statistics and he was AWFUL. rolls his eyes when you ask questions, he expects you to know the material when he barley taught it, his tests are NOTHING like what he teahces you in class. So much homework too!
I have been in college for 3 years so far, and I have never had a prof as bad at this one. He is just not good. The homework was always so different than what we did in class, and the tests were nothing like the class work or the homework. He is very confusing. He failed me, and I retook it with a different prof this semester and I got an A.
Show up to class, sign up for math 135 or statistics will be harder than it needs to be and DO THE HOMEWORK! It may be a lot, but it adds up in the end. He does not update or have canvas, but he gives you an update on your grade twice in the semester. Extra credit is offered, but not a lot. Overall, great professor.
Just bad. He never helped me when I went out of my way to try to get help from him. The homework is nothing like what he teaches in class. The test reviews do not have anything to do with the tests. Tests are long, and theres always problems from previous chapters. Oh yeah, I'm still waiting for that email I sent to him about 2 weeks ago...
Worst teacher I have ever taken. Formulas and information that was in the textbook was different from what he would lecture. Don't buy the book. He gives a lot of online homework that doesn't seem to complement what we learned in class. Make sure you take the 1 unit class, as he lectures that day. Unfortunately, MJC let us down with this teacher.
This professor is the worst math professor I have ever taken! He rolls his eyes when you ask questions and gives the worst possible attitude ever. Not professional at all. I went in several times and he did not help at all. His test and quizzes are nothing like the homework and he marks like 3-4 points off a 5 point problem for any simple mistake.
He Learly tales you whats will be in test. We, the student didnt trust His words. Math is not same any subject, needs practice over and over to stick with us. By the way, I got C Im not blaming him for having low score and Im not blaming myself either. Im blame the DISTRUST that was among the student and the instructor. if you will take his cl
If you struggle with math, please find another instructor. He rushes through class lecture and is impatient with questions. The syllabus states "go home and do homework right after class lecture for reinforcement".. I don't know why, the homework and his class lectures are nothing alike.
Prof Andrade was actually a really good teacher. I took the summer class and had class every day. I don't know how I did it tbh. But he was really nice and went over any problems students had. He would also do the problems we didn't understand in class. He was a good teacher. I don't know why everyone hates him so much. lol
There is far too much assigned HW. Approx. 20-40 problems per section-- all required if you want 100%. We kept going back or skipping ahead and didn't finish all the material. We covered some topics painfully slowly & sped through others. Criteria were unclear and led to an absurd number of points being taken off for lack of arrows on graphs.
I took MATH-134 class in summer 2018. It is a very hard class and lots of homework to complete online. Each section has minimum 20-40 problems. We need to put more effort to pass this class. Exams are very hard but the professor gave us practice papers they help us very well in exams. Professor Rodolfo is an awesome professor.
He assigns soooo much homework about 7 sections that have about 40-50 questions each so like an hour each. he teaches very fast paced and does not go into detail, just expects you to know the stuff already... would never take him again. Oh and takes off points for the most simple things like not putting an equal sign!!
Mr. Andrade knows math very well, but his teaching needs work. He frequently assigns homework that he did not go over in class. I mostly taught myself for the semester. His saving grace is that he gives a ton of extra credit at the end and curves grades. The book is not necessary but the Pearson account is. Pearson will teach you not him.
I would definitely not recommend this teacher if you are a student that struggles with math. When you have a question he is terrible at showing someone how to solve the question. He is like talking to a computer he just knows one way to solve problems. He does not make himself available. Has no emotion so it is terrible sitting in his class.
Stats was honestly such a hard class but this professor makes it comfortable to understand. He is always open for questions and office hours. This class requires a lot of studying outside of class or else you will not pass. Curves exams and offers extra credit. The coolest math teacher at MJC, IMO.
Mr . Andrade teaches Statistics very well. This class does require more then just attending. Theres homework online and lots of reviewing needed to do good on his exams. He curves grades and also offers extra credit to help his students. Overall a great math teacher if your willing to do the work.
I took Andrade for Math 134 during the summer and let me just say, he is a great teacher and you will definitely learn something, but when it comes to asking questions during class or trying to get help after class, he is not willing to make the time for you.
Professor Andrade was a great professor, stats is not an easy class but I honestly felt like I was able to learn a lot with him. He does make mistakes but just call him out on it. Homework is online, he does give out study guides, study them exam problems are about the same. Don't miss class because you will fall behind.
By far the best Calculus prof I have come across at MJC. Yes, he does give a lot of hw, but the exams are the study guide and he goes over almost all the problems in the lecture. He practically gives you the exam answers, unlike other profs which make you guess what will be on it. Calculus isn't easy but he has made it by far the most manageable.
I took this sadly online due to closure summer 2020 and you will basically teach yourself from the Pearson textbook. When you email him hes very bland kind of rude and basically you figure it out. There are no extra help videos or PowerPoints and he will not go out of his way to help you out. We only zoom once a week. Lots of work ,few examples.
This class is weird, because of covid-19. It's online, but basically you only do readings. He uses MymathLab and the hwk is an insane amount, professors who use mymathlab for assigning hwk are lazy. Assign from the book so the lectures match up with the homework. Very time consuming to do the hwk and not lenient at all. Bad class and bad experience
Don't take this professor. Summer 2020 through COVID & no compassion at all. Assigns crazy amounts of homework with scattered due dates throughout the week, no late assignments accepted and won't budge. Makes things way more difficult than needs be. Just feels like he could be more understanding overall and help his students considering everything.
Probably one of the worst math teachers at MJC. Assigns way too much hw, especially when we're in a pandemic. Will literally take lots of points off for the smallest thing like missing a title or arrows for graphs. No late assignments AT ALL! Posts videos but the hw is different from the examples he goes over in the videos. Take a diff. professor!!
bruh honestly just don't even look this guys way. just go find a different professor. trust me! HORRIBLE!!
Please, save your time and money. Professor, will not help you, when you reach out for help. He will not explain or lecture the subject. He expects you to read the textbook and apply all the knowledge from it. Problems are different from his YouTube videos. This class is self taught! Worse professor at MJC.
Worst experience I have yet had in college. Assigns way to much work, not compassionate towards students. Does not lecture or help students. Just wants you to read each chapter. I strongly do not recommend this professor.
Professor Andrade was a mediocre math teacher. He gave lots of homework (50-60 problems per week), had to write a paper on a mathematician, and a few tests. Even though there was a lot of HW, he provided lots of opportunities to increase our grade through the math essay. He also writes really small so it is hard to see in the back of the class.
Absolutely the worst teacher I have ever had. He does not care about his students or listen to any issues we are having. Instead he belittles you for making a mistake. We are all trying to figure out this online thing and he will not work with you. If he decieds to help guide you (literally his job) he says he doesn't have to help DO NOT TAKE THIS.
THE ABSOLUTE WORST. Do not take this class if you care about your gpa . He is very disorganized doesnt keep track of work and is very rude. I am a student who carries a 3.8 gpa . Just do yourself a favor and avoid this class at all costsq
"If you don't get it, then see you in the spring" Words said literally by the professor on the second day of school when asked a question. This professor really doesn't explain anything! He does not care about his students whatsoever. He speaks as if we're expected to already know what he's talking about. He definitely does chastise you for asking
Unfortunately, disappointed. His behavior is unethical regarding instruction. Shows you how something is done once and then urges tutoring. Doesn't create a positive environment. Condescending in tone. Lacks sensibility and compassion. Seems to be irritated by students. I've never experienced this level of unpleasantness in a course at MJC.
The main problem with this professor is that he does not care about his students, and he doesn't hide it either. With him there is such a thing as a stupid question. His class is the most unorganized class I have ever been in. He says assignments are due on a certain day but expects you to have it done days before. I have never had such a rude prof
He's so difficult, hardheaded, and completely unfair. We had to use Proctorio and he only gave us an hour, which included printing out the exam, setting up your workspace, etc, so really 45-50 mins. We voiced our concerns and he basically told us it wasn't his problem and to deal with it. The most inconsiderate professor I've ever encountered!
HORRIBLE, this class gave me anxiety all the way through the end. Teacher speaks with condescending tone and expects you to know the stuff before he teaches. Most teachers want their students to pass and do good but not him. Almost like he gets joy out of students failing
This professor has no compassion for students especially since the transition to all online. Assigns so much homework throughout the week. Theres something due almost everyday, even on the weekends, and only unlocks modules on Monday's, so theres no chance of getting ahead. Uses proctorio and must show all work area during quiz.
I was terrified after 30 years away from Math and a math LD. 911-989 is at your own pace. Professor Andrade made himself completely available, even outside of class hours to work with my "problem areas". He gave honest and helpful feedback and it felt he was dedicated to my success in the class and in math overall. DEF would take him again.
This is not an easy class, be prepared for a lot of work! Overall, he is a good professor, easy to talk to, and replies to emails quickly. Don't be afraid to reach out with questions on assignments. He lets you skip the final exam if you have completed everything. If you need something to do during the summer take this class. It will keep you busy.
Andrade is by far the most disrespectful, inconsiderate and rude professor I have ever had. He is the epitome of "my way or the highway". Please save yourself the hassle and stress from taking his course. He speaks to his students in the most condescending manor and is unapologetic about everything. Incredibly disappointed.
Video lectures 95% waste of time, too many words parasites and "let me check one more time". Unorganized, takes time to find assignments due, because it is all over the canvas and not by date. Links are old, so are documents, must update/correct before doing actual assignments. Information is easy, but tame it takes is not worth it.
Has a lecture style that can be hard to follow and some word whiskers. He's nice enough, but not my first choice for a math professor. Lots of HW, but it's the tests that really matter -- SHOW UP EARLY on test dates. I didn't and only finished about half of one exam; I was lucky to pass with a C. Expect to work, especially if math isn't your thing.
I would never recommend this professor. He tells you he changes the due date for an assignment, later on, he'll take that back and put it to the original date without telling anyone! He isn't specific at all, he just gives you a project and makes you guess what to do, like wtf? Don't take him! You will have a high chance of failing, cause of him.
You have been warned don't take this class. I'm warning you its tough. Pretty much all the assignments are on Pearson and very time consuming to complete. Not lenient at all and is rude. It seems that if you ask for an extension you are only bothering him and even if you have a valid reason does not care. Good luck if you do take him you'll need it
I am somehow good at math, but Professor Andrade really makes math harder than it should be. Andrade gives a lot of homework trough Pearson, and it you have any type of issue he simply says, "there is nothing I can do, I really don't know what to tell you." This type of classes are really the ones that make you question if you want to go to school!
NEVER TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!!! this is one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. This professor does not care at all to help and all he cares about is making people down. How can the whole class take an exam and fail it and that be okay...
I do not recommend this professor in the slightest bit. Lectures the whole time but nothing makes sense. Talks way too fast. If you miss something or have a question all he says is "we did it in class". No late work, make-up quizzes, or exams. I asked about 15 others in the class if they knew what was going on and they had no clue.
I really wanted to like this professor and I sought extra help outside of class and even had a friendly conversation with him. He's nice, but his teaching is not it at all! Common phrases he would say was "you guys know this" or "piece of cake, right?" It was NOT piece of cake. Blunt, brief, and not very helpful. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
This teacher is the worst, save your mental health LOL. There are a minimum of 10-15 assignments a week and most of them take an hour each. Have to pay additional $100 for a software that is not useful and $130 for a calculator. If you attempt to ask him questions if you are not understanding he will say "visit me in office hours" rarely teaches
You will be tested on the most obscure things he only gives a passing mention once in lecture. One test had two questions where you regurgitate a proof, one of which was not in the study guide. You will also be marked down for ridiculous things like missing equal signs or not simplifying (not a problem in calculus so why here?)
The pacing for this class was so awful with several weeks being spent on review for calc 2 and even just basic 3rd grade graphing while the week before finals has multiple new topics crammed into one week. Assignments have weird illogical due dates and are all over the place in Canvas, he can do a topic in lecture and have the hw due a month later.
Literally the worst math class I've ever taken (Math 193). He can't use a computer to save his life, his canvas shell was a nightmare, and nearly everything he taught I'd already learned previously in other classes- 4 years prior. Take it for an easy A, otherwise save your sanity because a waking up for a 7:30 am class was definitely not worth it.
I've only been in his class a few weeks and it's horrendous. Expect A LOT of homework, I did a "hybrid" course where we only met 1x a week and he gave us lectures/ home work every single day. Where the "lecture" videos consists of 10+ 10 minute videos if not more. Don't take his course.
Unlikable, rude. A lot of the material covered in hw is nothing like what he teaches in class. Disorganized lectures and canvas shell. He takes off points for minuscule things on exams, like equal signs when showing factoring work or lim, while he himself makes countless minuscule mistakes in lecture problem examples. Avoid if possible. Seriously.
He's nice but moves too fast, barely any time to work or ask questions. Lots of online hw, no late work, but has ec. Hw had stuff we didn't know so I taught myself. Takes points off the smallest things, then make mistakes teaching. Takes long to grade tests, take good notes to study, some questions not on review. Due dates all over the place.
-hard to understand, talks to fast writes to small -will not help you understand -does not teach proper material -lecture heavy -no room for any consideration -suffer -participation matters -no late exceptions no matter the reason -too much homework for any class schedule
This prof taught me nothing. I did well in precalc but was struggling by week 8. Doesn't explain things, spent all class time showing the work for lecture problems in a disorganized way. No one finished the 3rd exam in the time given. Doesn't answer Qs, gets mad if you "interrupt", and gives no points on problems if any of your work was incorrect.
I will admit that at first I thought he was going to be a pain after a harshly graded quiz score/no makeup allowed. In actuality, he is incredibly caring, insightful, funny, passionate, and willing to answer any questions. Put in the effort and you will do great - offers lots of extra credit, just make sure to show up to class.
Before I met Andrade, I could have truthfully said that MJC is filled with many wonderful teachers. He changed that. Students worry more about how he grades than learning the material. Tests are graded harshly and every minute NOTATIONAL error can destroy your grade, like declaring beyond obvious variables like l and w as length and width.
He doesn't know how to explain problems well since he just keeps doing them without explaining them. It doesn't matter how much homework you do throughout the semester because if you fail the final exam, the class will almost certainly fail. Lots of homework.
Andrade's class is easy and as long you are there everyday, you will pass the class. The 1 score comes from his personality and his inability to be flexible with the students. Gives random quizzes that go towards the exam grade and you cannot make them up if you miss class even if you have an excuse. Very particular on the way he grades tests too.
Many people hate too much on this professor. His lectures go through handouts given in class which include lots of example problems. Test questions are very similar to problems in the handouts and practice exams. Textbook rarely used, and he assigns easy homework assignments. Just be concise in notation and you'll be fine.
We have to do a required paper and I asked him if a really good college source was to his liking and because it was not from the school library he said I couldn't use it when the library had only A SINGLE good sources for my mathematician. Well when I tried to tell him that he pretty much said I didn't know how to use the library(I do, well know)
Never had a worse teacher! Makes vid
Horrible professor, difficult to tell what will actually be on exams. Homework is pointless busy work, doesn't prepare you for exams/quizzes at all. Lectures are OKish. He is extremely unaccommodating for makeup work. Would reco avoiding this guy like the plague.
I don't want but I must do this. I already self-study in advance everything in calculus. I am on my own reading real analysis, linear algebra and abstract algebra. This course should be like a piece of cake for me. But he made it so miserable. I had to switch class and my grade will be around 98% instead of less than 84% in his class. Unbelievable.
I've just finished the final. Believe all the comments below. Rude, inconsiderate, rigid. Don't know how to teach. Everything is a mess. Worst professor at MJC
He's definitely difficult, but he IS doable. His in-person lectures are definitely my favorite part. He does assign busy work (homework), but that'll determine if you master the subject or not. I feel like he teaches true math notation, he wants you to be wary of actually what's happening in each problem. Exams consist of lecture/assigned problems.
His grading structure is the worst I have ever seen when it comes to quizzes and exams. Notation is everything and partial credit is impossible if the final answer is not correct. arrows, equal signs, and labeling can cost you 3/5 points in a question that was correct. He will doc points whenever possible and was inaccessible outside of class.
90% of his course is fine. The homework is easy, the tests were only moderately difficult, and within what he taught. The only issue I have with him is harsh grading. I understand encouraging students for precision, but he deducts so much for small mistakes, which add up. For reference, over the '24 Summer course, only about 52% even passed.
I disliked his teaching style. He only taught through examples, little to no support using theory and concepts. Please don't take his class. My GPA tanked because of this professor. He is also really petty and mean to students. Does not help whatsoever!!
This guy is the worst professor at mjc. Do not DO NOT Take him for any class. All he does is does couple problems from the textbook during the whole lecture. So bad at explaining. Goes offtrack if you question him and won't help you at all. Isn't accessible outside of class. No = sign that -5. No arrows on graph -5. These are just some example.
MJC has wonderful faculty. Andrade's different • 15 HW's weekly. One wknd we're assigned 75 pgs. • Summer class started at 24, reduced to 10 two wks later. Never seen a class drop so fast. • No late policy. Contacted him when I missed a wk (counted as 8% of the class), wasn't offered extra cred. • Didn't post review sheets as promised in syllabus.
Unfair grading. Intense workload under a small time frame. Disrespectful and passive aggressive. Treats you like a kid if you don't understand something. Messy modules. Gets annoyed quickly. Wants you to fail. He cares more about the homework format than the actual work. Ridiculous 2nd exam where he said “no one will finish it.” The reviews speak.
Please don't. You will struggle to pass this class and he truly sucks the joy out of learning mathematics. Every time he grades something, your morale just lowers since he takes off 5 points for not having arrows on a graph for example. It's not something he should be proud of. If students are failing your class all the time, there is a problem.
It feels like he's happy about students failing his class frequently since there is no change on his part or ay improvement on the grading aspect of his course. MJC has to do something because he sabotages your grade and any little mistake will cost you -5 points in an exam (each question is worth 5 points). I hope future students pass his class.
DO NOT take Andrade for any math class! He makes it impossible for you to pass his class. I suggest you go to another location instead of taking Andrade. All the other professors are way better and actually care for their students. This guy just seems to not have gotten the career he wanted and is now petty or something but don't take him please…
I struggled a lot in his class and it wasn't because the content was hard but rather his grading style. It was so sad seeing my grade plummet because of the way he grades exams based on perfection. He wants every single word, symbol or drawing to be perfect or else he will take away all credit. It was a pain to take his class.
The ratings speak for themselves and even though I received an A (because I didn't sleep for a week trying to study for his exams) I recommend you take another professor that will not destroy your morale and kill your passion for math. Just getting through his class was so depressing but I'm so glad it's over and I never will take him again.
He cleans up your work, you're going to notice that you get marked off over a lot of small things at first, but it helps you learn and have cleaner neater work. Not a hard course to get an A in if you just listen to what Andrade is asking for. Overall good teacher and professor. Attending lectures is also important.
I took this professor as a requirement for my degree and he simply rushes through concepts. He barely looks into smaller topics within the course and if you don't understand one portion you get left behind and its hard to catch up. I have had many other friends take him as well who warned me how difficult this class was.
Don't take him.
His lectures were confusing and he gets annoyed at students. I lost hope taking this class and his course will take up all of your time. Find another professor, he's not a good one. I hope he reads these so he can find a way to improve himself for the sake of the future students. Many students have come together so that MJC hopefully takes action.
I have ptsd from his class 😭🙏 Just thinking about this professor makes me grateful I'm done with him. He will make you miserable and the grading he gives is horrible. Don't even bother.
He's really hard to work with and his modules on canvas are disorganized. He has you turn in everything digitally and it's a pain having to deal with tech issues since he is not forgiving of anything. He's very passive aggressive and the exams have too many questions for the time given. Most of the class don't finish the exams.
I took him for calc and he takes off so many points for the smallest details. He has group quizzes which require you to write the names of your peers to get credit or else you will get a 0 on the quiz and it's worth a lot. Many students will agree that he is a pain to work with. Don't take this professor.
I've read many bad reviews on here and they're all accurate. I don't recommend taking prof. Andrade since the way he grades is poor. He doesn't give good feedback and learning with his messy modules is frustrating. I had a really bad time in his course and half the class dropped. Save your time and money.
He takes a long time to grade and when he does he gives poor feedback. The lectures and module section on the canvas course page is disorganized and hard to learn with them. I would say try to find another professor if there is any, if not then just wait until the next semester because he is pretty hard to deal with.
I have anxiety even thinking about the time I took his class. I was afraid of whether or not I would pass. It's impossible to know what topics will be covered on exams since he is so vague on purpose. He would say “I recommend going over every module and every problem we've done so far” yea but there's like 500+ problems…
I'm happy that this class is over. It was a really hard semester having to deal with all of the annoying details he focused on. He took off 5 points from my exam because I forgot to put arrows on the end of my x and y plane and the whole problem was worth 5 points so I got a 0 for that one even though I got everything right except the arrows LOL!!!
Once I accidentally submitted an assignment to the wrong spot on his Canvas. The assignment was correct, but his Canvas is a mess and I got confused. When I explained my mistake to him, he refused to do anything and gave me a 0, then made it seem like I was an idiot for a basic mistake. That should tell you all you need to know about him. Awful.
MJC has really nice professors and many of them care for their students but this guy doesn't. You can even talk to him about the weather or else he will get defensive like what is actually wrong with him? For the sake of future students gpa and academic goals, this man needs to be fired. MJC has to do something. We will start petitions.
I'm was really excited to learn differential equations but this professor ruined my passion for math. He made every singular problem unbearable to complete because of the dumb notation, disclaimers, and minor errors. The amount of points you get taken off for these mistake is ridiculous. I'm so glad I will never see him again…
The homework for pearson was down for maintenance and it was due in a few hours. I emailed him about it for an extension basically didn't give me an answer and kinda just said there was nothing he could do. Really makes me wonder if he wants to be a professor if he is annoyed with students. I dropped his class and glad I did.
Seriously the worst professor I have ever had. Incredibly rude and passive aggressive. He wants his students to fail. Not only is he extremely mean but he also is just not a good teacher. Lectures are very confusing and you practically have to teach yourself the material. Please do not take this guys class.
If so many students are coming together and all agree that this professor should be fired, then why isn't he already gone? Why is he still teaching students and causing them to fail for petty reasons. If everyone drops your course and they all agree that you're a bad professor then you suck at teaching. I will retake this class with someone else..
Andrade's class can be tough, but using resources like unstuck study alongside the provided materials helped me stay on top of the content. Attendance is a must, and he grades quite strictly, but an A is doable with diligence.
This dude is so weird. He never taught how to do the subject and when someone would ask a question he never answered but went off topic talking about something different. He finds the longest and hardest way to use the TI-84 calculator. It is hard to understand him because he talks so low and weirdly. He is horrible at grading assignments.DONT TAKE
I would not recommend this class, especially if you are new to statistics. This professor is not helpful. If you have a question, he simply tells you to talk to another student or that you will have to come to his office hours which he holds once at the end of the week.
This is not a class you can take and do the minimum just to get by, I knew that prior. Even just by doing the most you will struggle and constantly have the feeling of wanting to rip your hair out. He jumps from lecture to lecture all in one period and can never just settle to work on one thing. He knows statistics well, he just cannot teach.
If he considers changing his approach with how he teaches Stats, he would be a better rated professor. At first, it seemed like I would have a fighting chance at passing, but his grading curve is awful. My grade took a nosedive dramatically in a matter of 6 weeks. He is vague about how to prep for tests and quizzes. Avoid if you can.
I do not understand how this class started with 35 students and 23 dropped. I have a 4.0 GPA and I am not about to let this poor excuse for a professor ruin that because he does not teach well. Why has no one investigated this professor? He has clearly become unqualified.
One of the worst experiences ever having him as a professor. Can't explain the math, can't teach it either, and incredibly hard to work with. Do not recommend at all.
Rodolfo is a beyond tough grader, you miss on thing in your assignment that smallest mistake he will take off points off of your grade. good luck with trying to get your grade back if you happen to miss 1 day or half the class. No matter if you do every single assignment correct, your grade will barely go up. As well as having to teach yourself.
He doesn't teach very well and goes about examples as if you already know the material. You 100% need to be prepared to teach yourself if you want to pass. I didn't register with this professor and got assigned to him last minute. Couldn't make the switch and decided to stay. Stressed a lot. I don't recommend!
PLEASE TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION ALL COMMENTS IN HERE ABOUT HIM, THEY ARE ALL 100% TRUE.
Insanely tough grader, the littlest things he will deduct points for. If you have a question about something during the lectures online, he tends to cut you off mid-sentence. Lots of homework and videos to watch. I don't recommend him at all.
Should've dropped this course as soon as I heard they switched me to this professor, he was very unreasonable, he just shows you how to do the problem and somehow expects you to know it by just watching him. Good luck trying to get help in office hours, he'll leave you very confused. As long as you like homework, this class is fine.
Please don't take this professor. I've never felt so defeated before in a class. And when you send him an email (if he responds) be prepared for him to only answer the components he feels like answering, you could send him a paragraph and he only addresses one topic out of the whole email. Terrible terrible terrible. Please consider other options.
I never wore a seatbelt on the way to this class because id rather die then get here. You can't ask this guy any questions because he will always tell you "office hours" for the most simplest yes or no questions. Don't take him.
I am at a UC now. But I took him for Calc 2 and ODE, got an A and a B+ respectively (by like 5 pts). He's a good professor. I still remember what he taught to this day. His exams can be tough, I suggest looking at his lecture notes. His notation is picky, but has real world expec. Take this professor if you actually want to learn or major in math.
This gentleman is the absolute WORST professor I have ever experienced. I have professors in my PhD program that
Wants to see you fail, very hard to work with. He is extremely unprofessional and rude, not sure how he still has his position as he clearly has cause many people to fail and cannot teach mathematics. In college most professors want you to learn but he'd rather use his position for power for some reason. Just teach & be helpful like the rest
Very unfortunate to be a part of this class,i never had teacher like this who doesn't emphasize on learning but focus on being one hour early to excel in the class. I think i never had class like this it is mentally challenging and not content difficult, but the toucher we receive while going through such challenging class.
Literally a joke to even call a professor. Do NOT take him! He would rather prove a point of authority than help his students. Disrespectful, targets students, truly a disgrace. I hope MJC get's rid of him and other students don't have to experience this.
BEWARE! 1. He gives a ton of hw w/o knowing whats on it, even said Al makes the hw 2. NEVER helps, makes it known its your fault if you're struggling 3. Rudest professor, nobody is passing & more than half of the class dropped 4. This class is a waste of time, PLEASE choose another prof. stats is a hard class, this professor makes it impossible
I highly recommend to review all of your integration techniques before hand, as he spends too much time covering vectors in the first half of the class. Even though most professors at MJC don't cover hyperbolic functions, Andrade will test you on them, so I heavily recommend learning hyperbolic functions and their integrations/derivatives.
Do not take this professor if you have any choice! He will take off points on homework and exams for the smallest of mistakes that have nothing to do with your actual answer. Target students and would rather prove his point than see his students succeed. The class material itself is not hard, but he does an awful job of teaching it.
How best to succinctly express my disdain for this professor's stats class? Expect circular, hard to understand instruction, an overflowing mountain of homework that required about 30+ hours a week for most of the semester to keep up with. Expect a prof. that seems to love control more than inspiring success. Skip if you can. 2/3 class dropped.
