A good teacher, he hates to let class out early and his lectures can be boring, but he's very good natured and this can sometimes make class enjoyable. Grades based on 3 tests and semi-weekly, very short reading assignments.
HE IS ALRIGHT. TAKE THIS CLASS
This guy is great. TAKE HIM!! I aced every test. the book is a breeze. I thought he was a funny teacher, quite an accent but you will get used to it. verry clear on what is expected. uses an overhead for every class. He gives a practice test and uses those exact questions on the test.
He is nice and friendly, but i couldn't understand anything. His lectures and himself were confusing.
i couldnt understand the material at all because he mixed it up and it was confusing. In addition, he wasnt organized in his lectures or notes at all....he lets you stay in class for the whole session, and insists on not having a break, especially during summer school. This is the worst professor ive had and ive taken better profs in the univ level
i liked him alot he seems very knowledgable and interested in what he's teaching.. he doesn't care too much if u show up or not
boring, unorganized prof; but will give all test questions before exam, so class is easy to get an A in.
Excellent professor and overal an awesome person
Good class, you can tell he really loves what he does, and he has hands on experience in anthro field work too. Gives you whats on the exam mostly.. cool guy
great teacher!!!! He is one of those teachers who sincerely cares about he's students. I enjoyed the class very much. All you have to do is study the study guide before the exam and your pretty much guranteed an A.
THE CLASS IS VERY INTERESTING BUT THE WAY HE TEACHES IT MAKES IT BORING. HE'S NICE BUT WON'T ACCEPT LATE WORK AND GIVES TONS ON NOTES. HIS STUDY GUIDES ARE VERY VERY HELPFUL AND HIS TEST ARE EASY EVEN THOUGH HE MAKES THEM SEEM VERY DIFFICULT.
His tests are somewhat challenging, because its multiple guess and short answer. He goes off topic in his lectures sometimes.
great teacher!!!! He is one of those teachers who really cares about his students. The lectures are really intresting and even though he gives you the study guide before test, do not under estimate him..he is cool. really enjoyed his class and is really sad that he is not teaching Anthro. 3. I truly recommend him.
IF YOU VALUE YOUR TIME AND YOUR SANITY DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN! you probably understand 75% of what he says because of his accent. plus his tone is sooo boring. it seems like he's passionate about his work. but everyday i was in his class i wish i had a gun or a psp.
VERY BORING!!! finds everything amazing, goes off topic TOO much, his writing is hard to read, cannot understand a thing he says, uses the text, only good thing lots of pretty girls in the class
Good person. He has a very interesting background. His lectures are a little boring. He does go on tangents alot. But if you ask him questions about his off-topic subjects, you will get some funny stories out of him. He will help any who need it and is passionate about Anthropology. I aced every test but they cover alot of material.
He's nice and understanding, There are 5 test including the final and about 8 quizes, that if you ask he will give the answers to, drops the lowest test. He's pretty chill, but anthro. is challenging.
A really nice guy, and will tell you the answers to future test questions if you ask him. People exaggerate about his accent too much. It's not that bad, and his class is really easy. Just review the notes and read the book and you'll get an A. If you can't do that,... I'm sorry.
SUPER BORING. must go to class blazed. accent is terrible, he's hard to understand. his study guides are easy to follow. so the class is fairly easy
Otero is one of the most sincere teachers I know! He will do all he can to help, and definitly wants to see students succed. He knows his stuff! Visit him in his office hours and make an effort and he will take care of you! Awesome Teacher!!
surprisingly got a B in his very boring class. grades are based on 3 midterms(300 pts) and hw (75 points). though he did give out study guides, his tests were hard because there always seemed to be 2 right answers for a question. overall, i suggest taking anthro from another professor
If you are looking for an intersting and smooth class..THIS CLASS IS NOT WHAT YOU WANT!!!! Otero is confusin, you dont know if he is still talking about the subject or if he is talking about something else.He expects alt form his students
Prof. Otero is a Religion Anthro major. He's a great teacher, and very helpful. His accent is not hard to understand if you yourself have a firm grasp of the english language. He doesn't penalize you until after the 4th or so absence. After that, no extra credit is allowed. I strongly recommend taking Anthro 11 with him... it's his specialty.
HIS ACCENT IS NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL. Cultural Anthro is a fun subject and so the class is interesting. Try to stay awake and do the reading assignments. Funny guy and he is eager to help.
Even though I didn't do so great I still believe that his lectures were very dry and boring, questions were rephrased on tests, 3 tests and a final (final is accumulative) if you want someone interesting and/or fun...avoid, especially if you dislike anthro to begin with!
Even though I didn't do so great I still believe that his lectures were very dry and boring, questions were rephrased on tests, 3 tests and a final (final is accumulative) if you want someone interesting and/or fun...avoid, especially if you dislike anthro to begin with!
dont take this teacher... he is really hard.. if you want to pass anthro then dont take him he is really hard and his accent is really bad that you wont understand one wordd
read the text!!!! i failed all the test prior to the final and studied the week of finals read the whole text and i understood and passed the final. also the notes help alot!!!! so take good notes and attend class. he only talks anthro language so read the text
very nice guy, but not a very un-organized lecture plan and very boirng. as a person he is great, as a teacher...not so much. i did not get a good grade in this class and i am a good student!!!
Otero is the BEST anthropology teacher at El Camino. I took Anth. 7 which i don't believe is available anymore but he still teaches several anth. classes. Very nice and extremely helpful. Will definitely take Otero again!!!
BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD!!! Seriously, professor Otero is one of the best teachers at El Camino College. For all those people who don't care about learning, don't take this professor. Don't even come to school!! But for all of those students who want to be inspired, take this professor. One of the best at El Camino.
His anthropology class was my favorite this semester. Hes a funny and intelligent guy, he asks for you opinions and is always willing to answer questions. Only downside would be that sometimes he gets a little off topic and you'll ask yourself "what is he talking about?" But i got an A in the class. If you get lost, read the book! You cant fail!
Very nice guy. Class is kind of difficult. 3 exams, 100 points each. 50 points of writing assignments that are spread out. Extra credit. Make sure to copy everything down during lecture. Gives study guide, dont skip anything on it. Exams are kind of hard. If you are a slacker, I would not recommend him. I got an A, but effort was definitely needed
I'm the first to say this guy is totally hot. His Latin accent, his adventurous stories, his passion for culture: totally hot. Lectures are dry and can run long, but are IMPORTANT. And feature cool videos sometimes! Both books = important. Tests are tolerable. Pay attention and respect the subject matter, and you will do fine.
Took him winter semester for anthro 1 & 2..he's entertaining...but you really have to pay attention to his class to pass...you have to read, you have to study..its an actual hardcore class >.< dont try to wing it because i will guarantee you that you will not pass!
Class is pretty interesting. Otero is knowledgeable and lectures well, but seems kind of disorganized sometimes. Tests are easy, and he gives a good study guide. The homework is pretty basic. A good class if you just need to fill credits.
Hes a very nice guy. the only thing i recommend you do is read the book before lectures. his lectures are a little dry, but he is really helpful if you ask him for help. some questions on the tests are tricky, but if you read over the lecture notes and read the book, you will do fine. also, TAKE GOOD NOTES.
Great teacher. Very interesting, if your into anthropology. Easy class if you pay attention and do all the readings. Very nice and respectable teacher.
Took him over the summer. His class requires a lot of effort, but is definitely do-able. There were three tests and one paper. He is a good professor, and you learn a lot of interesting things. Attend class, and take good notes. His tests are based around his lectures.
1 of 3 Bs I received the whole time at ECC was him. I think I could've gotten an A if i tried a bit harder but ended up with a B. tests i thought it was a bit hard and is extremely boring lecturer. as long as you try, a B will be guaranteed. A is not out of reach either. I skipped many classes cause that was after I turned in apps for UCs
Otero is a nice teacher. His test are hard, but he is very helpful. Once in a while a take home quiz for homework, but that's about it for homework. he does give extra credit. I suggest taking good notes from his lectures.
The best professor IMHO at El Camino. He is not only extremely intelligent, patient, and helpful, but nice and easy-going as well. His classes are interesting, compelling, sometimes comical, and no more difficult than other courses I have taken at El Co...just listen, take notes (if that's your thing), and read the assigned material/book.
He is a great teacher, his lectures are very interesting. he speaks very soft so sit in the front. I had never taken an anthro class, and it was a great class. study the notes, read the readings given. he gives extra credit. homework is a must.very nice respectable person.
Otero is one of the best professors at El Camino I've had. He's a goofy, down-to-Earth guy (with a slight accent) who runs a structured, interesting class and expects this effort returned by his students. Might be a bit more work then you'd expect from his personality but worth the effort. Take Anthro of Religion with him if you can, wish I had.
Dr. Otero is a hilarious teacher. Despite everyone elses' comments as to how his lectures are "boring," if you read the text and compare it to his lectures, it starts getting really interesting. He's pretty hard (midterms kicked my butt) but study hard, take good notes, and ask questions. You'll do fine. :)
If you dont have a interest for anthropology, don't take him. He is really nice and funny at times, but the lectures are EXTREMELY boring. The tests do not follow the book or his lecture. Try to avoid him.
He's really nice, sometimes funny. His videos are pretty interesting. But if you don't pay attention you will fail,Tests are EXTREMELY hard you must STUDY to pass,on the essays write as much as possible.Articles/HW are a must.Read both books and take great notes. He gives like 3 extra credit, not worth many points but helps you if you really need it.
Dr. Otero is a kind and knowledgeable professor, but his class is a abyss. I was taking 18units in fall (including Chem1A, Phy1B+1D)& still got straight A, but I got a B in this Anth class. I read the book&drop extra note before lecture(1st time I do these thing).I took Math220 in sum and got A, so that I amn't bad at learning in short sem.
He is passionate about what he does, and because he is so passionate it makes his class interesting. I am now an Anthropology major because of him. His class isn't easy if you don't make the effort. Read the text, take good notes, complete his assignments and it won't be that hard. He's also very willing to help, really nice guy!
Awesome teacher!! He makes the subject fun and will go out of his way to help and explain things so that you can understand the concepts. He's a good man. Glad to have taken his class during the Winter Semester.
Took him for physical anthropology and passed with an A. He has a very thick accent and is hard to understand at times. He has a quirky sense of humor but is still relatable. He reminds me of an Argentinian Indiana jones, cuz he dresses kind of like him sometimes and studies some of the same things as Indy!
I really like Prof. Otero. I am not the best student and I did well in his Anthro 2 class. Pay attention to lectures and take notes during and read the book and you'll do well. So what. He has an accent. It's not thick or hard to inderstand as some reviews stated. He's funny, his lectures and movies are interesting. He's there if you have questions
Dr. Otero is great professor. Take notes and pay attention and you'll do fine. But study for his tests! If you study the tests are doable. Also do ALL of the readings because he gets many of his test questions from the articles.
I loved his class. It was based almost solely on his three exams, but the exams are doable if you pay attention during lecture and take solid notes. Reading is not required but should be done if you want to do well. He is a nice guy and he wants his students to do well, so take advantage of that and ask him for help if need be.
Great professor! very easy class it just sometimes annoyed me when he would lecture and no one would pay attention and some would daily walk in late slamming the door -__- .. he was great though i recommend him :)
Vey friendly and interesting person. Truly cares about his students and the subject matter
Going into this class, I did not think that it was going to be as difficult as it was. He is an awful teacher and his notes are very unclear. He will start notes on the projector and then write relevant or irrelevant side notes on the board and it is very hard to follow. He is not that nice and is very annoying an doesn't make sense when he speaks.
I like Dr.Otero's lectures, they were informative. He even translated some of the Ethographies from Spanish to English for us. Do the reading , take detailed notes and be able to repeat what you learned on the test and you'll get an A. I slept through part of the lecture in nearly every class still got an A!!! Write the extra credit essays as well
Trust me when i tell you not to take this class. He is the most indirect teacher i have taken at elco. Always goes off topics to things that barley have any importance to the class. You don't need the book but its better if you buy it since his lectures suck and are extremely boring. Don't even think about using your phone in his class. DONT TAKE!!
I liked this class. Its very easy. All the class consists of is notes on the projector. Do all the written assignments and study for the test. If you study you'll do fine. And don't use your phone in class he gets super mad. Overall he is a great teacher and easy course. i learned a lot.
Beware do not take him I had to drop his class with a W because he is a very hard teacher and is not nice! And he goes off topic all the time and one time he assigned a test he didn't even know what date he assigned it! I recommend do not take him! He's awful!
Prof. Otero is very passionate about cultural anthro, but the way he lectures is boring and can be confusing. Make sure to take notes for the exams! I barely passed, and buckled down for the final. Nice guy tho.
Good guy but his lectures go fast and sometimes really hard to understand when he goes off subject. He offers extra credit that helps alot. Tough class.
The best Anthropology professor at Elco. I feel beyond privilege to be taught by some of the most inspiring professors in the field of anthropology and Professor Otero is one of them. He's very passionate, helpful and goes out of his way to help his students with understand the course material. Visit his office hours and ask question!
Nice guy, didn't do well in the final but took my grade under consideration and passed me with a B because i "did very well throughout the course". Explains any questions you ask him but he talks WAY too much & can get you confused. Class is mainly based on reading articles, a novel, taking notes, & PAYING ATTENTION to his lectures and movies.
4 exams in all and you don't need the textbook if you take notes and study those. There are 8 quizzes but they are all open note. He doesn't assign any homework. His lectures are boring; I think it could be taught in a more interesting way. But again, it's an easy class as long as you take notes
Otero is probably one of the best teachers i have had at ElCo. He is very passionate about teaching. Take notes, its essential to passing. Tests are multiple choice, go to his office hours.
Otero is a great professor, but I feel like in Intro to Anthropology he doesn't really get to teach the material he's most passionate about so his lectures can be long and boring, but he's funny and really nice. The tests are pretty easy because he lets you use a flashcard and his quizzes are open note. He also gives some extra credit.
Take really good notes, don't miss any days, do the few article assignments and you'll pass. He's passionate about his subjects and he has field experience that he integrates into his lectures, not just book learnin'. He's approachable and easy to talk to, willing to help the people who actually care enough to talk to him. Fun, interesting class
Proff Otero is a good teacher that is very passionate for the subject! Took him the first time it was hell. you have to READ AND STUDY TO PASS! study guides are like 3 pages. Lectures are boring. He teaches off book and enforces his thoughts that his class should be your PRIORTY! he tells students to forget about social life and family
Hes a very very very nice guy. Absolutely loved him. Sweet sweet man. Would take again. His class was a bit hard but honestly I just didn't study that hard. He was always there to go over what I missed on test reviews in his office hours. I got a C and I aint even mad. The guy is cool af. His cultural anthro is really interesting too, loved it!!!!!
Professor Otero was a great teacher and Anth 11 was an easy class. Homework consisted of reading articles and answering some questions. No min/max limit on the papers. He's very knowledgeable and he studied one of the groups we had a chapter on. Irrelevant: I don't think I ever saw him wear anything but blue.
Professor otero is a great person, he really has a passion for anthro and is pretty funny too. You'll pass this class as long as u show up everyday and take good notes. Generally no hw & u can use your notes on every quiz. The tests are pretty hard but if you read the chapters and really study you'll be fine. He also gives extra credit opportunity
Overall, class is based off of 4 test & no hw. I was nervous at first, concluding it would be hard to receive a good grade. He gives some extra credit opportunities. He's truly passionate about anthropology, and lets you use a note card on the midterm and final. He's funny too, with some of his jokes. Pay attention in class and write down notes
Just here to bump up the rating and briefly say that Otero has got to my one of my favorite professors. Really makes lectures interesting.
He'a a nice professor but at least for me his lectures were so boring!! I would fall a sleep most of the time. He knows what hes talking about though, and he's really helpful.
This class is really easy to pass. He grades on a curve and gives us plenty of extra credit opportunities. The lectures are boring but time flies by fast in that class. It's easy to get an A. There was never any homework, just three tests, a final, and 8 open note quizzes which are either take home or you do them at the end of class.
Dr. Otero is an amazing professor. His class is simple, show up, take notes and read the chapters in the textbook. There's no group projects or major essays and short readings with 5 questions . He gives you a study guide and there's 3 exams. Also, he gives extra credit and one makeup exam to replace a bad grade from a previous exam.
Took him for Winter 17. 4 wk session. He wants his students to write down notes quickly. He talks alot. Students will ask questions and he will not even know the answer. There was not extra-credit what so ever. he allows you to make up an exam on the same week of the final that covers 5 chapters so u will study for 2 exams if you plan on making up
If you love any type of science then this class is an easy breeze. BUT if you are a student like me who has difficulty with the sciences I would not go with this class. His lectures are long, pretty boring, with excessive note taking. He does enjoy anthropology but he can work on making the subject more interesting for those of us who struggle.
Otero's class is primarily based off of lectures, so make sure you are taking notes on even the little things... they often come up on tests. What you don't cover in class he tells you to read and gives you exact pg #'s (Nbd to me). There is virtually no HW and occasional quizzes. The final is the last few chapters, not cumulative.
Dr. Otero eats, breathes, and sleeps anthropology. He is a man that is clearly passionate about anthropology. When taking anthropology with him, you know you're in good hands. His class is very lecture heavy, however he gives plenty of extra credit opportunities. Dr. Otero is honestly one of, if not, the best professor I've had at El Camino.
Professor Otero was so amazing. His class consisted of lectures and in-class discussions; we watched quite a few videos too. Overall this class was super interesting and you can tell that Professor Otero really loves what he does.
You can easily get away with exclusively relying on lectures and not getting the textbooks. His lectures have all the info you need, but you have to pay attention, and it's easy not to because of he is so soft spoken. However, he's an absolute gem. He's incredibly kind and intelligent and willing to help. Anthro is his passion and he's good at it
Honestly the sweetest man on the planet. Very caring and understanding. Mainly lectures but talks about very interesting subjects and has awesome stories. Tests are straightforward and he gives study guides. Offers many extra credit options as well! He is just such a sweet man, not hard to pass his class.
This class is super easy. He gives 3 exams in total but provides a study guide for them. He also gives a couple reading assignments and many extra credit opportunities. His class consists of heavy lectures and it can get a bit boring at times but just show up, take really good notes, and study the material in the study guide and you'll pass.
such a kind, passionate guy. the only thing that sucks is he's a hard grader, and the tests are pretty hard too (he gives three). other than that, i would recommend taking him, he's very chill and allows one test makeup, as well as extra credit.
Professor Otero is extremely passionate about Anthropology. He's inspirational when lecturing, and if you are an Anthropology major like I am you cant go wrong taking him! Its a must. As far as his courses, take advantage of his Si sessions, extra credit and office hours. The rest is really up to you; read, take good notes, and you'll be all set
I'm going to be very honest, this is one of the hardest classes I have taken so far. He is kind as a teacher but I have to say that his tests are pretty hard. Be prepared to read a LOT. Take good notes. The 4 tests he gives can have a big impact on your grade. Take his class at your own risk. Some questions in his tests can catch you off-guard.
Prof Otero is a very knowledgable, passionate, straightforward, and helpful instructor. Cultural Anthro is his life blood and this really comes through in his class. I would highly suggest making use of his office hours as he is very impressed by students that put in an effort outside of the lectures. Read and ask questions! Enjoy his class!
If you like science or anthropology is your major then you'll enjoy this class for sure, if not then you will struggle. His lectures are long and boring and his tests are hard. You'll have 3 tests, the final, plus quizzes. He should work on making his class more interesting. Overall, he's really nice and you can tell he loves anthropology.
Come to class and pay attention the entire time. I did 0 outside studying this year and ended with an A, but only because I came to class every day and listened the entire time. Memorization is key, It might get easy to get bored and distracted, but if you stay focused you'll get an easy A.
Professor Otero is awesome. His lecture slides are detailed and to the point. He also gives you a study guide. Take thorough notes and do the study guide. He is very approachable so don't feel afraid to ask questions and make use of his office hours! He will more than gladly answer your questions. Would definitely recommend him
This is not my major at all but this professor is very kind and helpful. His powerpoints are easy to understand/take notes from and he's very open to meeting during office hours to help you further if needed. His tests are a bit of work but he gives you clear study guides. As long as you do the work and readings, there's no way you can do poorly.
oteronicest person on earth, but teaches by powerpoint daily&goes over 70% of what we learned the last class, the next class. that made us push tests back a lot since we wouldn't have time to cover everything, but allows u to skip class. don't buy txtbk, pdf is online. notecards allowed on tests. need to study tho, anthro is NOT just common sense
I have taken all of his classes and I know for a fact that he is one of the kindest and coolest professors I've ever had. If you're aiming for an A, you need to read the textbook and go over class notes. It's simple, clear and straightforward. In general, the classes consist of writing assignments and tests (+pop quizzes for anthro1). He's amazing!
The Professor is kind. He wants to help you. He tries to work with student. Class is lecture heavy so make sure you listen up. A little bit of studying wouldn't hurt you. Take good notes. His Exams are not to difficult compared to other subjects. However he can be very repetitive at times. Lecture can be boring but suck it up and try to get an A.
COVID-19 saved me from having to drive to campus for this very very long class. We transferred to an online class and that made learning more challenging. In both environments lectures were long due to him being off topic. He is knowledgeable without a doubt. However, I wouldnt recommend if youre not a by the book learner. He also grades harsh.
Really sweet and nice old man. However, he is very lecture heavy and demands a lot of reading. He gets off-topic really easily and expects everyone to know every detail. Due to COVID, the class was set back a lot but he still pushed everyone to show up for zooms. He was NOT equity-minded and I did not feel like he cared about us as students.
Professor Otero is a very sweet man however, online teaching is not for him. Spoke to the class in a very condescending tone most of the time. He does get easily side tracked which is unfortunate as it made me lose interest in the class. Super bummed bc I was really interested in the material but he made it almost impossible to get into it.
He barely gives any work, is very nice, but the material that he DOES grade, is graded quite hard. Overall, would take him again. I feel like he is very understanding of his students and especially helpful during a global pandemic. His course was 100% online, no meeting times. Just go at your own pace, which is what I loved.
I highly recommend Otero. A couple of weeks ago, I missed an exam and he reopened the test for me to take it. Hes been so understanding during the pandemic and I would take him again.
I took this class during the pandemic; this was not great. He seems available as a teacher, but you are basically teaching yourself. He gives you lecture notes to take notes on and study off of. A very lazy pandemic teacher, the only picture I've seen of him is his profile, and I haven't heard his voice all semester. Find someone who wants to teach
I took Professor Otero for an online course. His feedback is very clear, he tells you exactly what you did right and wrong. Tests are straightforward as long as you read the textbook. He recommends reading both his modules and the textbook, and I think that is the best way to succeed in his class.
Professor Otero was very organized on Canvas and made sure to post announcements often. This was an asynchronous class so I didn't get the chance to talk to him but I know he had easy accessibility through canvas or email. The class is super interesting and easy to stay involved in. The assignments are fairly simple and straightforward. I reccomend
He answers questions promptly and is very caring. He is willing to do zoom meetings if there is something you don't understand. He offers extra credit. I can tell that he has a love for teaching and he understands students struggles. Extremely clear and straight forward curriculum. Pace yourself!
Professor Otero is a great professor! The modules are clear and understandable and is willing to do zoom meetings to make sure you understand the material. He offers great feedback and in order to do well, you have to read the chapters from the book and complete and review the study guide.
Great Professor, provided very clear module notes and is very organized. Gives extra credit quizzes (DO THEM), then 3 tests with very clear study guides. The material itself is hard but he is very good at providing us with information. There are also a few assignments throughout the course but besides that no homework.
Such a good prof, cares about the students, and is very knowledgeable. 3 exams, 3 discussion posts (one is extra credit, so you only have to do 2), 2 writing assignments, 2 quizzes. There can be a decent amount of reading to do depending on the module, most of it is interesting. Definitely would recommend and would take again.
Took him Fall 2021 for Anth 11. He gave ton of extra credit opportunities. Very little work throughout the semester, easy grader. As long as you show understanding of the material you'll do well. Some people complained that they failed his exams because they were tough, but as long as you pay attention to the lecture material you'll do fine.
Fair Hes very passionate about Anthro and his lectures/movies are actually interesting. We had 6 quizzes and 3 exams; no homework. His course was fairly easy, just make sure to read the textbooks and go over his slides. Hes very caring towards his students and allows for extended test dates if needed :)
Professor Otero is really dedicated to Anthropology and is an amazing teacher. took his class during a short Winter session and he was very accommodating to the shortened schedule and even took our feedback into account. He is always there to answer questions. Its not an easy A, but if you try you can get a B easy. He gives study guides to help!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! Long lectures, no teaching, no notes given. Requires you to read everything on your own time. Learned nothing from this class. Test are HARD. Grades extremely harsh.
The lectures arent long but there is a lot to go over. He will post on canvas what readings and videos we will need to watch for the week and will go over everything in class as well. Be prepared to read a lot and review because there will be discussions and quizzes. He also does grade based on attendance as well.
His lectures are long, non-stop, and generally similar to a dump of information that is quite overwhelming. I highly recommend taking the class from a different professor if possible. I might as well have not gone to the lectures at all and just studied on my own time. Lectures last for the entirety of the class period, and reading is done alone.
Tests are very intricate, if you don't do the readings you will not pass the test. Don't rely on quizlet answers for this class. It's the type of class that will leave you alone for a bit, and the assignments/reading will sneak up on you. SO many articles/movies, this is your warning. But hey if you like a challenge, go for it.
The class was interesting, but the tests are complex and aren't easy to answer even if you do read the textbook and attend the lecture. Definitely not an easy A class; there was so much material to go over. The assignments/discussions are pretty easy at least. He's a good professor, his class is just a lot of work.
The professor is really nice and very passionate about his work. The only thing I would say is the lectures needed a little more structure and the criteria for assignments needs to be clearer.
Dr. Otero is overall a really great professor and super nice and caring. He really teaches his class with a passion and some of the topics he went over were interesting. There's minimal homework to do as it's mainly lectures and some group discussions. Textbook is recommended but not really needed for the exams. You should definitely choose him.
Professor Otero's ANTH11 course is challenging but rewarding. The lectures can be dense, so staying on top of the readings and utilizing resources like Unstuck ai are key. Exams are tough, but with dedication and the right study strategies, you can succeed in this class.
He is so sweet. I never dreaded this class. Grades based on tests& discussions. Clear instructions for every assignment. Offered extra credit quizzes prior to every exam. Readings all available online.Very accommodating. You can tell he's passionate about what he teaches& enriched lectures with his own funny stories. No bad things to say about him.
He was a funny, spunky, and interesting professor and I had a wonderful time in his class. I loved his stories, and I loved how he engaged with the students. I would 100% take his classes again, and it gave me a really profound new perspective on different cultures as well as many memorable cultural facts. The assignments are also easy.
I took his class in person. He doesn't assign anything unless there's a discussion coming up. His lectures do get boring at times, but it's like 80% a part of the lesson that he could tie into personal experience, 20% actual lesson. The exams are open note and online, so they should be light if you take notes, which are also taken best online.
Had an easygoing experience overall. What was discussed in lectures appeared in tests (midterm & final). Tests were online. Had frequent group discussions which required a short written paper answering key questions prepared beforehand to turn in. A very kind man who is passionate about his study, and is thrilled to discuss with students.
