This man is the worst instructor I've ever had. His lectures involve reading DIRECTLY from the text. He is very unapproachable and seemingly narcisstic. His expectations for students are much higher than should be expected from an instructor who obviously puts so little time and effort into the course. Also, the class AVERAGE is an "F".

Some of the below comments may be more relevant to higher level courses. In PSY 106, he was pretty fair on grading. The tests were a little challenging, but if you put a lot of effort into studying you will be fine. He teaches the class very well. You never really lose interest in either the presentations or readings. Recommended for PSY 106.

This man is a horrible instructor. His lectures ARE straight from the book and far from dynamic. He constantly tells personal stories, which doesn't really seem relevant to the study of Human Development (we should be learning scientifically supported facts, not anectdotes). Everyone performed worse in this class than any of their others...

Professor Torres is very kind and engaging, but he is very unorganized. His syllabus doesn't cover everything you need to know for your assignments. It's a lot of reading. There is an online component and you'll have a chapter and quiz due for every class. Exams are online. Lecture is engaging but it doesn't help a whole lot for the exams.

He's a very engaging lecturer, but he gives far too many assignments. Theres a quiz due before every class and its way too much work. Also, the tests are take home which adds to the already heavy workload. I actually had to drop this class because I couldn't keep up with the work and kept missing due dates.

Honestly, he's a great professor but very different from other science professors. He's a more engaged professor. He expects you to read before class, but I used to just read a small section and then participate based on that. Make sure you participate or he'll call you out. Exams are super easy and online. Homework is online too but it's not long.

Lectures are really interesting but they do not always help with the actual assignments or exams and sometimes go off topic. He assigns way too much work and he assigns as if he is the only class students are taking. He repeatedly goes over time in class and has made me late to my next class many times. No respect for student's time.

Fosters a paternalistic attitude with students. Consistently goes over class time. Assigns too much homework, it is unrealistic to finish it all. Lecture is interesting but doesn't necessarily help with actual exam. He does give a chance for bonus. Can only miss 2 classes without being penalized heavily. Participation matters greatly!

He is very knowledgeable about child psychology but the amount of work he assigns is unreasonable. He requires that you use the online textbook instead of a paper copy. Class participation is required and if no one volunteers, he will call on random students.

I am enjoying dr Torres class very much. I agree that he is a tough grader but he is fair. He spells it all out in the syllabus. His lectures are good and funny at times. I sometimes feel sorry for him because so few people talk in class and he works to encourage student comments. He values discipline and respect for diversity.

I am in the same class as one of the previous reviewers and have some disagreements. Dr. Torres is totally fair and does not require anything unfair or without explaining why. Online text was cheaper for students and he put a copy of the book on reserve. He has taken a lot of time outside of class to meet with me and his lectures are impressive.

He cares a lot about his students and making sure they learn the material. Class flies by because his lectures are very interesting but is very hard for an intro to psych class. Would not take professor again if not psychology major. Get ready to work hard and learn alot. Also hes funny.

Professor Torres is an amazing professor. I would take him over and over. I had a personal thing and he understood. He may seem tough but he's a gem. Overall, the class is a lot of reading but if you are organize and plan ahead you will be fine.

I have had him for two classes, at DePaul he is the best teacher I have had so far. His lectures are engaging and I have learned a lot. His expectations though are too high. He has given me a hard time with the attendance policy despite my engagement to his class. I had a family emergency and he wouldnt share powerpoints. homework takes 3 hours

Dr. Torres was a great professor. His lectures are long, taking the whole class period, but it is filled with valuable information. Quizzes and exams are online and are all based off of the readings. He does call on people randomly for participation, so make sure to read. Overall, he made the class fun and engaging, and I would recommend him.

Avoid his classes. He does not respect student's time or other classes, grades discussion posts like essays, assigns way too much hw w/ 1 assignment taking up to 3 hours, doesn't grade in a timely matter, & requires you to download an expensive program to complete his assignments that includes the textbook rather than using D2l fully. NEVER AGAIN!

Dr. Torres pushes students and I feel the course was too intense for an introductory level class. To me he seemed inconsiderate and patronizing towards students at times. Tough grader, textbook required, participation required. Take him if you want to be challenged. But if you want a chill introductory class, avoid Dr. T

I never thought that a clinical psychologist could be so inconsiderate. He is very strict with attendance and completing the assignments on time. Everything he assigns has to be done in a short amount of time. So much homework worth up to 3 hours per day. And in class he calls on you randomly all the time. Wouldn't take him again.
