Dr. Blomquist is a great teacher. He lectures a lot, but they are very entertaining, and helps you appreicate history more. He is also willing to help you if you have concerns.
Best teacher of History! Will work with you, and his classes are so much fun. Liked History before, now I Love it!!!
Professor Blomquist is an amazing teacher. The class is not hard, but you will have to put the time in if you want to do well in the class. You have three papers but they are really not that bad. He really makes history intresting, he gets into details, and you learn more history in this class than you probably have in any of your other classes.
Take this professor if you want to laugh. He's funny. He's smart. He involves the class. He tells stories. You can't sleep in his class! Take him if you want a fun history teacher.
LIKED THE CLASS, WAS VERY MUCH FUN. I LEARNED A LOT OF INTERESTING FACTS AND WAS ABLE TO GAIN A MORE APPRECIATION FOR HISTORY.
Best teacher yet! Very fun class!!!
He is such a great teacher! It's the only class I actually look forward to going to.
This was the funnest class!! Roger is the best teacher around, not only is he fun, but he is willing to help you out any time you need it. I would highly suggest him if you are interested in learning anything about history! I would suggest him if you weren't interested in histor, I guarantee you would be after one of his classes. he is the BEST!!!
Blomquist is great! He is fun, he covers a lot of stuff, but in a very entertaining way! He is extremely fair. I would recommend to any one!
Dr. Blomquist is an awesome history teacher who makes history come alive and make you really understand the events and what took place. I would highly recommend him!
Professor Blomquist is a great and fun teacher. He has a lot of knowledge about History and is fair in his teaching. He is also a funny guy. I would recommend him to anyone.
Don't miss this class..It is a must for anyone who has to take history or just wants too. Dr.Blomquist is not only one of the funniest guys I've met, but man he makes class time really fun. You want a good teacher, he is a must!!!
The class itself is rather easy. The books that have to be read in order to write the required papers are long and useless. I still have yet to use the required textbook. The lectures are interesting depending on the subject. Beware, he has high expectations on written papers!
Professor Blomquist makes learning fun. His unique perspective on the subject matter makes learning more interesting and exciting. His handling of difficult subject matter gives a more rounded learning experience. This has been one of the best survey classes I have taken, and I have learned the most.
This is such a fun class! The professor's lectures are very entertaining and informational. I learned a lot from this class, while it was very difficult or demanding. I would highly recommend the professor.
Needs to be added with this picture to fully know why everyone loves taking his classes. He is the BEST!
Warning this class has been known to cause sudden burst of laughter and funness! Only take this class if you really want to know the real story of History by one of the best teachers here in Utah. However keep in mind he is a storyteller(teaching) in the greatest form and you will find yourself unable to not come to class.Seats are going fast!!!
Professor Blomquist class is interesting and intertaining. He is a great story teller and uses several points of view. Working hard makes the class very doable. There are three books to read and related papers to write. I recommend this class!
Blomquist makes history fun. He provides an unbiased view and cracks jokes during lectures. I looked forward to coming to his class. I highly recommend him.
I have really enjoyed this class. Blomquist is very down to earth and eager to help students. He brings History to life in a very entertaining and informative way. He is very animated! He does not use power point which has made my experience more beneficial. Blomquist captured my attention from day one and I have thoroughly enjoyed his class!
I really enjoyed Prof. Blomquist's class. His interest in the subject really gets you interested. He is very fair with grading and with the tests. He also lets us know what to study, which is really helpful.
very passionate teacher, really knows what he's talking about and is excited to share it with his students.
Dr. Blomquist's class was great. He often goes above and beyond what most professors would in attempting to bring history to life and make it more interesting than the musty pages of the textbook. On an administrative note, Dr. Blomquist is very helpful, always stays after class to assist students and answer questions. I highly recommend him.
This teacher offers extra credit if you submit a rating on this website. Everyone is required to submit a printout of there rating so do not trust the positive ratings. He doesn't use facts and only talks about mountain men and Native Americans. Do not refute him, he's adjunct and will screw you. I aced the class.
Hey, I never heard about extra-points for leaving feed-back! The only way to fail this class is not show up and forget to do the reading. Blomquist is a great teacher and he WILL work with you. History is fun with Blomquist!!!
he's a really smart guy, he doesnt teach chronologically so its kind of easy to get confused if you miss a day or two.
I would recommend taking this class, but be warned. He may say something offensive. He is very passionate about what he teaches and has the interest of the students in mind. If you read the text book and pay attention in class you will do pass the class.
I really liked his class. He's funny and nice. Don't try to critisize everything he says, he doesn't like it and so don't other students. Not hard. Just make sure you've reviewed your papers. Take good notes. He curved our tests and threw out some questions.
This teacher gives you extra credit if you write a review on ratemyprofessor.com. Wow! Most of them are positive...go figure. He's not hard. He talks an awful lot about the western United States and the old west. I did not dig him.
Was a good teacher. Went into detail about the subject
In truth, not that great. Moves slowly, coverage of material patchy, tests poorly written and on material not covered in class, biases are obvious, etc. He has potential, but in his current state, I am uninterested in the material... which is sad because I kind of wanted to learn history. I feel like the class moves far too slowly.
He is very helpful but be warned he is very passionate. I love his class and learning. He makes me laugh and teaches history that you wouldn't get in a text book. Which I liked, because text books are boring. Take notes and go to class and you will do fine.
Showing up to class is extremely important if you want a good grade. All information is givin in lectures IN CLASS. He doesn't go by a textbook so taking notes and paying attention is critical. Tests can be quite difficult but if you study your notes you'll be fine. ALWAYS willing to work with you if you ask. Guaranteed to learn. Great overall!
I just finished his Spring 09 class,he spent so much of the coarse visiting with his favorite students that the class only got to the civil rights era when it supposed to go from civil war days to present day. He's hard to take notes from because his lectures jump around rambling then mixes little details in with the important ones, then tests hard
Dr. Blomquist is a really good guy. Having said that, he is not on the same level as other UVU history teachers I have had. He covers the material in patches, and really only talks about what he thinks is important. His tests are tricky. On the bright side, you do not need to buy the book.
I didn't like this guy at all. I signed up to take his summer course, he wanted us to read 4 books in 7 weeks. Not very practicle unless thats all your doing. He deducted points for not stapling your papers. Just too much for me to handle along with a full school load and work. I dropped his class. Good luck! Your gonna need it!
You walk in sit down and he starts talking. He doesn't go in chronological and you just have to write down what you think is important. His tests are very obscure and they do not test comprehension, he just wants to play mind games. He is very rude and will take any opportunity to humiliate you.
This was one of my favorite classes! He makes history interesting. I learned things I never knew before. Take really good notes, and you'll be fine. His tests can be tricky, but are not that bad. He let us use our notes for the final. The papers are useless, but that's the only thing I didn't like about this class.
His test are designed to trick you and second guess yourself. He lectures all class and if you ask if this will be on the test he says " maybe maybe not " I learned nothing in his class. He does not do review and makes you read a ton while still have to do research on the topics he lectured about in class. Because the test have NOTHINGabout lecture
Very entertaining. you will need 4 textbooks for this class & you will be writing essays on them; be prepared to do a lot of reading. There are very few assignments or test, so make sure that you don't miss any of them otherwise you hurt your grade a lot. He does everything he can to help you understand. I would take another class from him.
Only take this class if you want to drop your GPA. I learned very little because i was too worried about writing everything down that I wasn't paying attention to what i was writing down. His tests are impossible, the class averaged a bit over 50% and he could care less. He talks about Nascar, Sex, and the lecture everyday. Same daily process.
Very fun class. He lectured every day. lots of reading but he doesn't go off powerpoint and keeps things interesting which helps people pay attention and learn more.
I really loved Blomquist! I was really worried going into this class (Utah History) because I knew how biased some other professors were, and how utterly useless other Utah History classes were. After the first day, I was excited to attend class and listen to the lecture! Attendance a MUST! Take notes! You'll do great!
A lot of reading required. No textbook used, must write a lot of notes. Tests can be hard. Blomquist loves history, fun teacher. Very fair grader. I would recommend Blomquist as a teacher.
The funnest teacher I have ever had! But also the hardest teacher and class I have had! Extremly good looking man!
I hated him. Whenever you try to have a scientific argument, he lets religion trump science and hard facts.
I hated this class. He was not helpful at all with tests, and his assignments were pointless. I did not like his teaching stlye.
Dr.Blomquist is great, who ever says he is bad, is because he is lazy. He is passionate about history and loves to teach.I liked his sense of humor, makes the class fun and he is very patient. He will answer any question and will repeat if u didn't get something. The only thing that was hard was too many books to read.He is cute too.
What a great history teacher. His lectures are entertaining and very informative. I learned a lot while in his class. He requires you to read three books and write a paper on each. This was the hardest part but he grades lightly. Highly recommend taking his class, you will look at history in a whole new way!
He was a great teacher! reading the books cover to cover is not that important I read like every other page and was fine. or just read reviews. It is important to go to class no text book what he says goes on directly on to test but he tries to trick you on the test like on T/F read carefully!
He was a very interesting teacher, but your grades are based almost completely off of your midterm and final.
I loved Mr. Blomquist! He makes history sounds interesting and makes me appreciate all the important people in the history! Of course, he's a sexy cowboy for his age!! XD
Great class!!! GREATER TEACHER! but everything is from the lecture and the three books he makes you read. some of the books are kinda stomach truning, but realy read the first three or so chapters, and the last few and you will be fine! LOVE THIS TEACHER!
I loved Dr. Blomquist. There are two tests and they're not too hard if you go to class and read the "textbook." If you need help or are falling behind he is very willing to help and very nice about it. All you have to do is show up and pay attention and you'll do fine. The only hard part are the papers on the three books, but he grades leniently.
Blomquist is far too opinionated for a History teacher. His comments about Utah County's "Culture" were irrelevant and disrespectful. He is loud, obnoxious and unprofessional. His class was boring and he would go off topic often. His opinions were never relevant to what was being taught.
I love him! His class was super easy, an easy A for sure. He has you read and write papers on 3 books, but honestly, it's not that hard- coming from someone that took it during summer and has a job. I read some of the previous comments b-tching about his books and dropping out because of it- you're lazy and shouldn't be at a University.
This professor is a joke. I am a history major and I have taken several classes here at UVU and I have never had such an unprofessional professor. He makes extremely inappropriate jokes and is constantly repeating himself. I would avoid his class if possible. Not only do you not learn anything but his grading is completely subjective.
Blomquist is an amazing professor. If you're complaining about his opinions, then grow up. He's a great professor that knows what he's talking about. If you think you know better, you shouldn't be attending college. He knows the stress students are under, and likes to get off topic every once and awhile to give students a break.
Professor Blomquist is awesome. He is a bit opinionated, but as long as you don't take offense then it is usually really funny. He's very understanding, and accepts late work which is nice. He does what he can to help students out. He knows what he is talking about and is an awesome teacher
He was amazing. I loved his class cause he made history interesting. He does swear every once in a while but he is really good. I highly recommend him.
You have 5 things you are graded on, which you are graded extremely hard. 3 book reviews (lots of reading) and two multiple choice tests. Good luck to anyone looking for a challenge. For those trying to get an acceptable grade, look somewhere else.
I loved this class. It's amazing how knowledgeable Blomquist is, he never uses notes or powerpoint presentations in his lectures. The test was a little hard, and so were the readings, but overall I thought he was a very good teacher. Sometimes he can be a little loud or inappropriate, but once you overlook that he's great. I would recommend him.
Blomquist is a very good teacher! He is extremely biased, and sarcastic, and ful of himself. However... he also made history VERY entertaining! Attendance is MANDATORY! The tests come straight from his lectures. A lot of reading for this class, but it was good practice on writing papers. I would recommend this class.
Great teacher. Here is the thing to remember, he is a college professor. Hence he teaches college level classes. So you will read alot on here about him being hard, not clear, bla bla. It is usually from people who think they should be handed an A. If you come to class, take notes, do the readings, and study, you should pass. He is very helpfull
Blomquist is the man! My only regret is not tape-recording his lectures. You will have to take tons of notes and study them in-depth to do well on the exams, but it's SO worth it. If I can do it, anyone can. I have ADHD and usually can't stand lectures, but I hung on to his every word in class. He is so freaking smart, hilarious, & a great teacher.
What's the point? I took his syllabus to my ENG prof, she agreed that his writing assignments are "wack" (her words) He contradicts himself in the syllabus (reading assignments) He provides no direction to what's important. He said "you are supposed to figure (what's important) out" Useless tangents. Arrogant Prof. interesting class though.
This class is terrible. You have to read 3 (300pg.) books and then write papers on each of them. He is very sarcastic and doesn't stay on topic. Also, he doesn't allow laptops and you have to write all your notes by hand. Which is near impossible to keep up with him. And you have to have good notes for the exams, which are very difficult.
Makes us read 3 books. One of them was very dirty and explicit. All he does is lecture. If you miss any of the lectures, you'll have to guess on a question or two on the exam. He doesn't allow laptops or cell phones. If you're caught with one, he'll drop you a full letter grade. I would have done better if I could've taken notes on my laptop.
I loved his class. Its alot of lecture but he makes it a ton of fun. Hes funny and loves history. If you put forth the effort to pay attention you will love his class. By far my favorite history professor of all time!!
I love how he can make history so fun. He has a way of making you interested in what happens and wanting to learn more about it. His lectures are well formed and he is knowleagable on the topic.
I was looking forward to learning a lot more about history. Bloomquist doesn't seem to care if students learn. He has the attitude that no one wants to be there anyway so what does it matter. Nearly every class just lecture. You have to take notes fast. If you have to take this class try a professor that wants to actually teach.
Roger is great. He is very knowledgable and actually cares about the material, making it much more interesting. He is always willing to clarify. Also, he is extremely funny and entertaining. The first day of class I thought I was going to hate him, so don't judge him by the first day. He doesn't allow electronics and notes must be taken very fast.
I really liked Blomquist. He isn't easy, but he is fair, friendly, and really knows his stuff. If you want a good grade, come to class. There are 2 tests, both of which are completely taken from class discussion, so take excellent notes. You'll read 3 books and write a paper for each. He's also in love with NASCAR's Danica Patrick. :) Good Luck!
Yes, you do need to write fast in lectures. He emphasizes western American culture especially the Native Americans. Have to read 3 boring books and write papers on them. 2 tests. 13 points extra credit only for about 12 hours of work. Tests are easy if you know all dates, names and events from the tiny text and the lectures. He is funny and helpful!
I like him as a person, but as a professor, not so much. He definitely knows his stuff, but don't bother asking too many questions, because that irritates him. He isn't 100% clear on what he wants us to know. Basically, his class is 100% lecture and then take 2 tests. 3 papers are easy. Work your butt off and you may get a B+.
Obviously passionate in his knowledge. He says evrything by memory. Tests are mostly from lectures. A little from the small book. Humorous. Expects a lot out of his students. Good instructor overall, but I won't be taking his class again because his cell phone and laptop policy is too draconian. His penalty system makes me feel like a six grader.
He is a wonderful teacher and is super helpful. As long as you don't text in class and actually pay attention you should be good. He is easy to work with and helps you understand what you are learning. He practically brings it to like. Definitely would take another class from him.
This class was useless. The professor won't allow laptops in class but expects you to take detailed notes at an insane pace. His required papers have ridiculous writing requirements that don't follow basic writing/essay structure rules. He constantly attacks students comments and his sarcasm is both unappreciated and inappropriate.
Unless you a) write shorthand and b) have a photographic memory, I don't advise this class. I type 80 wpm, but if he sees an electric device we get kicked out of class until we write a letter of apology (hello high school?). His tests are just details from his fast-paced, nonstop lectures. Also the textbooks were somewhat inappropriate.
I really enjoyed this class. Yes, the tests are difficult, but it is not out of your reach to do well. Read the book. Show up to class. Listen to lecture and take good notes. It is a difficult class, but this is college. Yes, cell phones and laptops aren't allowed, but if that's the end of the world for you, you've got bigger problems.
worst class ever. He is a terrible at lecturing. He is all over the place. Extremely arrogant and goes off on random stories all the time. There is no reviews for the test. The tests are crazy hard, nothing to do with the book just his lecture. Not allowed to have a computer to type on. Must handwrite all the notes.Books that you read suck.DONTTAKE
He is a very hard teacher. He knows how to speak well, but doesn't let you use computers in class or any cellular device. If he catches you, he kicks you out of class. His stories are funny, but his tests are crazy hard. I would not recommend him to any student.
Blomquist was a great teacher. He's captivating and you can tell that he's passionate about what he teaches. The papers were fairly easy, even with all the reading required. The textbook was good but not on the test. If you want to get a good score on the test, attend lectures and take notes. I passed with a B- and didn't really try.
Dr. Blomquist actually made the material interesting. I was honestly dreading this class but the way he teaches makes the subject material applicable. The paper can be intense, but he is really helpful and definitely knows the subject well. He's a lot of fun, but don't expect to sit in class and hide. And it's true, he hates cellphones.
Hardest class I've taken. The only assignments were to read 3 novels (plus a book report for each) then the mid term and final. The majority of the class failed the final, the only thing you have to study is the notes you take everyday in lecture. No phones or laptops allowed period. That being said I did learn a ton and he is a decent guy.
If you attend every class and take decent notes you should be fine. The tests are hard but he throws out several questions which dramatically increases your score. The papers are very easy. Don't let the other students scare you, I took another class from this professor because I liked him and was not stressed in his class.
I loved this guy! He always made his lectures interesting and fun to listen to. He was a pretty funny guy and works with you really well, always offering extra credit. Assignments were cake, I could get the whole essay in a couple pages of the books. And tests are fair when you study, he gives a good curve. Take him!
Roger never takes roll, but tests are based off lecture, so go to class. If you do not like lecture based classes, go somewhere else. But he is very interesting to listen to, and tells very good stories to help illustrate his point. There are books that are required, I never read any of them, and got A's on each paper. Highly recommended
3 books w simple reports, 2 Multiple choice tests but final not comprehensive, and throws out Qs everyone gets wrong. Lectures are fun, but no tech allowed, so get your pencil ready! He's funny, interesting and knows his stuff. Easy Extra cred available, but it's in the Syllabus. Syllabus is super clear and outlines everything. Loved class.
Roger's tests are very detailed-take notes! He tells you all the information you need to know in class and his lectures are enjoyable, but you can read the text instead and get most of the informaition. There isn't a very heavy workload in this class, just a few papers and tests. If you put decent effort into those you'll do well in this class.
