Good lecturer, not boring like your average history professor. Not a super tough grader either. Consistently argues that American wars are economically caused, yet morally justified.

Whatta guy! He is not your average professor. He enjoys history and teaching. Treats you as a peer, not just a student. He is lively and energetic. Fun class! Made history interseting but MUST DO his PAPERS, otherwise don't expect to pass.

Great professor, just read the book and you will do well in his class. He is more than happy to help you as long as you are willing to do your part as a student. Studying is the key to succeed in any class in college.

I am suprised people say that his is rude which he is not. He is very helpful. He explains what he wants for the paper and you just have to do it. Very interesting class.

my class with professor bowerman was one of the best i've taken at glendale community college. i don't know what any of you are talking about...he couldn't have been less rude to anyone. he allows for open debate and always listens to everyone's opinion. just because his lectures aren't prepared doesn't mean they aren't interesting!

Really nice & very accommodating if you take the time to communicate with him. Thought-provoking lectures occasionally turn into debates. Sadly, his lectures (to which attendance is mandatory) and the text have negligible application to the exams, for which he requires outside research. If "research intensive" sounds bad to you, don't take class.

Professor Bowerman is an awesome guy who is really, really well studied. If you love history and aren't offended easily by people with liberal views then I strongly recommend you take his course. He is a really funny, awesome guy who makes every class enjoyable! Each class flies by, it's so fun.

Best teacher I've ever had all throughout school, not just college. I was worried about having a corpse of a teacher with no personality or love for the subject, boy was I wrong. Great discussions, funny, interesting. Gave me hope that there are still great teachers out there! HIGHLY recommended!

If you study, read the book, and pay attention to lectures you'll do fine on the exams. There's nothing tricky about them. He's easy to talk to and it's always a fun, discussion friendly class. This is my last class at GCC and I'm definitely regretting that I didn't take any of his classes sooner.

Genius teacher, without being pretentious! Fun class that brings up great discussions and questions. If you're sick of all those boring history teachers with no opinion, enroll in his class! you'll see history in a different way, not as a bunch of names & dates. HIGHLY recommended! Highly recommended! He has great ability to explain the subject in a very clear/rational way. He loves his subject, and the class reflects that. First history class I enjoyed and actually looked forward to. Tests are very straight forward...no tricks. Does his best to help you out. He sees you more as a peer/adult than most teachers.

You need to take this class. I'm recommending him to all the people who ask me. You just won't run into many teachers like him in your lifetime.

Finally, a class that's worth your money. Being in his class was like being an audience to an awesome story being told. He's just so alive and clear when he speaks. Very refreshing class. You will need to study pretty hard, he stresses critical thinking, but he makes it easy, guiding you the whole way.

Great prof. i had him for HIST 117 knows alot about everything. likes to joke around, is very helpfull, he needs to put his students first. needs to be fast on the grading of the essays. but all in all tests are easy he gives u question ahead of time to prep. TAKE HIM HES A WONDERFULL PROF.

Very interesting class (hist. of war) He is hillarious. If youre a text book person this class will be diff. cuz it's all oppinion and arguing, not much reading. He's super cool- he has long hair. He has a big emphasis on writing and argument so be ready to write an 8pg. paper. Learned a lot. Highly recommend the class.

Really easy class. I never read any of the assignments out of the book nor did I take notes in class. On the Midterm I got an A. Pretty much if you know how to structure an argumentative essay this class will be a breeze. He is super interested in Native American Studies, so if that is something you like then you'll love the class.Easy grader

My favorite teacher at GCC, but be warned. He has a very left-wing bent and uses a lot of bad language, so if you're easily offended, don't take him. I found him hilarious, and I loved going to class because I'd get to laugh. There was also a lot of class discussion about issues, and I'm taking another of his classes in the Fall.

Bowerman's a character, he's extremely refreshing among all the mundane and prosaic professors at GCC. Mr. Bowerman is a Great teacher. The material that he explains in class seems like a story. The information that he explains gets registered to your brain, and you can never forget it. Even if you want to. I highly recommend him to anyone who needs to take this class. Study for the test and midterm/final and your good to go!

One of the brightests and most knowledgable people I've met, yet at the same time one of the most unorganized profesors in the campus. His grading is totally unpredictable. Absolutely hilarious! 5 star on comedy performance. It's like VIP seats to Robin Williams History and Comedy. Amazing how he uses history as comic elements. I learned alot, especially about economic justification of US wars. Just know how to write an argument essay and ace is yours.

History 136 was the single greatest class I enrolled in GCC. It's an open forum discussion class. The method/control he teaches this class is genius! There were 2 essays & 1 research paper. Key are: read the material carfeully while writing down key concepts by authors. U shud get an A like me. A lot of up tight Prof at GCC shud take his Hist 136!

The class is a little hard, so it is no walk in the park. If you want to learn about history and not just know some dates, take his class. Mr. Bowerman is a great teacher, but could get a little unfair with grading, which is not a biggie. FUNNIEST GUY, you will never be bored again in class. Overall, I would reccomend this class to others.

This guy is in the wrong job field he should have been a comedian! He makes his lectures humorous which helps you remember- which is a good thing. The only thing that i don't like about this guy is his grading he is so uptight that most of my classmates didn't even get an A. Most of us got a B. But you gota love this guy, really funny!

Most of the people with the negative comments about professor Bowerman are those who just don't agree with his viewpoint. He is an awesome teacher. Very knowledgeable, very into what he teaches. Hilarious and willing to help whenever you need it. You just gotta do the work. Not an easy A. You need to work for it. To me, that is a good teacher.

He is the funniest teacher ever! And he knows the subject extremely well. Things in class might not be clear but just ask him questions and you will understand what his intentions are. He doesn't tell you when you need to take notes, whenever he talks you should be writing. Do that and the exams will be easy to study for.

He makes history very interesting with his animated storytelling and random bits of amusing side history stories you would never hear from anyone but a history professor. He is really helpful with the work he gives. And you will most definitly have work to do, but it allows you to really learn the information. Great class!

Lectures are amazing. ID Terms require the textbook. Midterm and Final are PERSUASIVE essays. Difficult but not impossible to get an A. He makes you earn it, but it's worthwhile if you give a crap about learning. If you love history, take this class. If you hate in-class essays, this class may be difficult.

professor at GCC is the best i have had. He teaching method is fun and informative. His tests are essays and your grade depends on your knowledge and how you can relate or prove your point, which requires you to know and master your ideas.He is leave, writing his book. although he might look dumb he is one serious smart man.

Best teacher I have had the pleasure to learn from. He knows so much about what seems like just about everything that when i was in his class I managed to soak up all his info with ease. I had him over the summer, and i recommend this guy to anyone. he is also very nice to anyone willing to crash, if there is a desk, then you'll be able to get in.

He talks a lot during class and doesn't really give any work or homework. He grades based on attendance, participation, and his ESSAYS. Bowerman is by far one of the best teachers at GCC. He's engaging and well educated. He teaches the subject with enthusiasm and is always willing to help. He sucks at answering emails though. How anyone can fail this class is beyond me. This teacher is one of the most enthusiastic teachers in this college. He absolutely loves teaching history, and that makes it that much easier to pass the class by easily learning the material. Homework is 2 paragraphs a week, and it is not boring at all. Mr. Bower man is one cool cat! This is an ethnic studies class focusing on Native Americans in North America. If you're open minded or like the subject, you will do well. One research paper that he guides you with feedback, 1 midterm, & 1 final. He posts reading online and doesn't require you to purchase a textbook. Go for it

Being a History major myself, Professor Bowerman did not disappoint. With a dynamic class syllabus, fascinating debates in class, and engaging essay prompts to write about, he truly brought the class to life. He is very responsive to emails and you can meet with him during office hours should you need further instruction. Definitely recommend!

What a great lecturer, wow. You'll never find a more interesting and hilarous history prof anywhere I guarantee it. Beware though, he grades harshly, difficult to get an A but he's very generous with Bs. If I went to his office hour before submitting my essays I might have done better. But no regrets, we all loved every moment of his class!

Prof Bowerman is great I wish all classes could be like this one. He is a UCLA grad and definitely knows his stuff. The man was born to teach! It's never boring and his lectures are fast paced but you feel like you're watching a movie instead of a lecture, he knows how to keep up the interest. Pretty good prof. He makes the lectures fun and interesting, you won't dread going to class. He doesn't give any tests. His "tests" are basically essay outlines that you submit online. He can be a tough grader when it comes to these and can be a bit unclear as to what he expects the outline to be like. But overall a good prof. Would take again.

I take classes that aren't required for my major just to have him. You can't go wrong with Mr. B. I recommend him to every student. He's more intelligent than 99% of professors and is honest with his student. He's chill, but don't disrespect him by talking in class. He deserves the upmost respect because he is a great person that cares. 6/5 rating.

Took History 118 and I loved every single minute of it. He is such a funny and engaging guy, yet he really gets major key concepts across. Grading is only based on 5 things: attendance & classwork, a paper of quotes for an essay topic, an essay outline, an essay, and final. These are due weeks apart and gives ahead of time. No reason to not pass.

Roger Bowerman was probably the funniest teacher I've had at GCC so far. He's so passionate about history and his lectures are very interesting and funny. We had couple in class assignments and I believe 3 essays as our midterms/finals. If you hate history and you need to take this course, you wont regret taking Bowerman!!!

A really funny guy. He gave us really short outlines and essays to do, but when he gives the minimum requirements, expect to do more to get an A. Visiting his office hours and having him look over your essays is crucial to getting the grade you want. Talk to him before turning in work, and you'll be fine.

I took the summer course for HIST 118, and I'm so glad that I had Bowerman as my prof. He's quite laid back and can be serious when need be. For this particular quarter, there were 2 assignments (200 & 300 pts) and 1 final essay (400 pts). There were also participation points (100) for coming into class everyday.

I took his class in spring 2020. It was on-campus then online. He gives feedback on assignments. He has fun stories. Professor Bowerman explained things clearly and showed us pictures of Native American things. The assignments were simple and there are word counts. The semester project is about a film documentary proposal. Work on it asap.

I took history 118 online and he was a very funny and awesome teacher. If you really try your best you can definitely get an A. He doesnt take attendance but attend the class because you pretty much have a quiz each time but the quizzes are very easy I actually got more than 100% on all of them. Just 3 big assignments and final is an essay.

Favorite class this semester by far. He can be vague about instructions which is stressful as he can be a challenging grader. Attendance not mandatory but class discussions are really interesting and he isnt afraid to tell you how it is. Basically show up, participate, and dont inflate your essays with garbage. Really solid guy.

Professor Bowerman is amazing. I learned so much in his class and truly enjoyed his approach to teaching history. His breakout room group style is a bit tedious as a lot of people don't participate and then unfairly grade you. His assignments are clear and his teaching is great, but the breakout room group system needs to be worked on.

Professor Bowerman is a very good teacher. For History 118 class, you have to do 20 quizzes (at the beginning of almost each lesson), evaluate your 3 different groups and write 4 essays. These essays are not too easy but if you go to the office hours, Professor truly helps you to focus on the right thing and earn a good grade. For A -work hard!

I had Professor Bowerman in 2009 for History. I believe it was US history. He gave amazing lectures and I learned so much. It's now 2022 and I can still remember.

Funny and kind professor with insightful lectures. class is very organized and structured, also very clear in what he expects from you. Only negative thing is his strict rubric for grading essays. Make sure you use strong pieces of evidence... curses a lot.

Professor Bowerman was one of the most passionated teachers I've ever met who made American history not only super interesting but super fun too. He himself is a comedian and he really makes you want to engage in class and truly motivates you to improve. I'm so glad I was able to take this class with him last semester before he retires!
