I think there's a sizeable distinction between a professor that is open and honest about their personal beliefs and a professor that caters to those who share them. Roger is definitely the former, though some people here accuse him of otherwise. He encourages disagreement as long as you come up with a well-constructed argument, as it's happened a lot in both of my classes with him. It's all done with a dialectical approach to education, and that sort of approach wouldn't be functional without disagreement.

The class ended with five people. I went to see him several times in office hours, he said my paper was good then I ended up getting a bad grade .He does not use canvas or use percentages for essays . He does not grade by his syllabus. He basically gave me B in the class just to give me an B. He never showed me a break down of my grades.

I had Professor Marheim class in 1987-1998. My education ended with Post professional Masters degree from Cal Poly Pomona and Second Masters degree from CSUN. I have a great respect for him and strongly recommend him.

Professor Marheine has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to historical background and context for the literature he teaches. He expects his students to push themselves and does not waste time on busy work. He incorporates his own love of political activism and art that reflects social change. Hes great about office hours etc

Don't procrastinate. Seriously. He gives you an essay formula at the beginning of the semester. Take notes during lectures for essay ideas, put them into the formula and you're set. Don't focus on the "best" idea, focus on convincing arguments. If you can get audiobook versions of the books so you can listen when you can't read.

I took Professor Marheine over the summer. It was an online asynchronous class. 4 essays, 1 optional extra credit essay. Resources needed to write the essays were all free, no extra cost. Follow his essay format, write the paper, easy A. Easy grader. Gives good feedback. 11/10 would take again.

Don't get me wrong, he's a very nice person and is very knowledgeable of what he's saying, but he does not teach at all. We haven't had a single lecture this semester. I know it's an asynchronous class but he won't even record lectures or post anything besides the weekly readings. It's like this class doesn't even exist.

2/3rds dropped. Assigned Reading/Online Discussions/Videos no lecture. 1-1.5 weeks to write essays (we wrote 3). To succeed read and save quotes. Essays need 8-10 quotes and have page limits. He cares about having an original thesis and BEING ABLE TO RATIONALIZE IT W/ EVIDENCE. I liked the topics/books we covered. I had him for 1A before too.

I've had Professor Marheine during the pandemic, and he's considerate to his students. To get a good grade in his class, you need to participate in weekly discussions and read the books required for this course to write essays. No zoom meetings or lectures. It's all discussions and essays. He's a great and caring man, you may learn a lot of things.

He is a knowledgeable teacher. He gives detailed feedbacks for the essays. The grade for this class is based on the essays that we read throughout the semester. We had 3 books and 3 essays, so be prepared to read and write. Participating in the discussion board is part of your grade, so be part of it. Overall he is an amazing teacher.

Professor Marheine was one of the best professors I've ever had. He was extremely understanding to me during this pandemic when I had several losses in my family. He gives students lots of opportunities to express their opinions. If you do the work and try, you will get an A. He gives feedback to rough drafts. I wish I met him in person. Great guy.
