Fun and interesting class. Professor is very knowledgeable, makes you look at history in a different way. The textbook is supplementary but not needed, but I recommend getting it. He gives a study guide for every test and as long as you prepare, you'll do well. Take good notes--most of the tests are based directly off what he says in class.

GREAT TEACHER, will help you alweys answer all questions, not taking is a must, but he makes it easy, all study guides are enough to get an A on every exam. EXCELLENT

Great Prof. Should attend class as all information for exams come from his lectures. I recorded the lectures so I could fill in my class notes and it was extremely helpful. He holds your attention and his lectures are not BORING. Grades fairly and I know I will retain all that I learned for many years to come. Can't say that about too many Prof!

Great teacher! Very clear on what he wants you to do and when he wants you to have it done. 3 tests all year including final and 1 paper. Memorize the study guides before the tests and you are good to go. Overall I would say that I would definately reccomend this professor.

AMAZING TEACHER! He is very fun and energetic while teaching. Keeps student's attention with interesting facts and jokes. I learned so much in this class I can not wait to take another class of his. What a sweet, sweet man. He is a wonderful, energetic teacher who made history class tolerable. His exams are simple but do require studying, and he gives lectures that cover all the material. I have taken him for 2010 as well, chose to take him again because I enjoy his teaching style. Now I am considering switching to History as my major.

Professor Carey is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. I could not have gotten through this past semester without him. His classes are fun, assignments challenging, and he works with you on everything.

Quite the intuitive thinker/teacher. He teaches in such a way that you become able to THINK about HOW and WHY events occurred - almost completely eliminating the need for memorization. 1 rsch paper, 1 intnet prjct, 4 tests is all. Listen carefully and write notes fast! But he'll backtrack. Intellectual sense of humor is funny. Highly recommended!!!

Mr Carey was hands down one of the best teachers I've ever had, I always looked forward to going to class. He's so interesting & obviously passionate about what he's teaching, and funny! Mr. Carey was one of the BEST teachers I have taken ever at Santa Fe. He is clear and straight to the point on what is excepetced out of you. He made learning history fun and intresting. Not an easy class, you definitely have to keep up with the homework and notes, but he's really understanding and funny and I really enjoyed his class.

Amazing professor. His class is challenging, but definitely manageable. Makes himself super available to his students and provides and preview of the test before each exam. Must attend class for credit, and to not get lost. Let's you know how to get an A. You need the text book for his exams. There are 4 exams, drops 1. One manageable paper, no HW.

This class is Critical Thinking, so be prepared to. Carey teaches this skill well. His lectures explain the text book. Most importantly, he is organized & helpful if asked. there is always a book report, so follow reading schedule. He will give question half way through class from book. Tests are triads from book & lecture. Excellent teacher.

Great teacher! Go to class and pay attention/Take notes and you will ace this class. There is no homework, no online component and once you understand what hes looking for, his exams are super easy. I recommend study groups for the tests which are 3 one-page response questions that you get ahead of time to prepare for. Great history class. Loved it

Dr. Carey makes this class fun. Not easy, it is college level, but fun. Attending class is a must as is taking good notes. Tests are 3 essay-type response questions, which are not easy, but manageable if you study. Awesome professor!!

Not an easy A, Attendance and good not take skills are a must. Overall awesome teacher very helpful. The clarity can be iffy but fun. He lets you know if you are "hot" if you have the answer right or "cold" if you are wrong and makes the student go back and redo giving a minor hint.

One of the best courses I've taken at Santa Fe. Do not expect this to be an easy A. You'll take notes every single day and be expected to keep up with the readings. If you enjoy history and don't mind working for your grade, you'll love his class.

His class is all lecture. All you do is notes. There are 4 tests composed of three events/objects/people ect. called "triads", you must learn about 12 of these triads, and pick three sets on each exam, write a small essay about them individually and then how they're all similar. The final essay is brutal, it's one the worst book you'll ever read.

Interesting way to receive an "A". Not a hard class, but demanding to say the least. Attendance is mandatory otherwise you miss a lot of notes and WILL NOT DO WELL on the tests. Tests are very easy, but demanding. Carey really makes history fun but expect to take notes, lots and lots of notes.

Class is easy if you take notes on the lecture. Exams are written + 95% on lecture, but he gives you the exact questions beforehand, and lets you email him to confirm the answers to those questions! 1 presentation + 1 book based paper. Allows 1 drop,attendance required. Funny thing, he hates Kevin Costner, so you can joke about that with him.

Great Teacher ! One of the best ive had, and he really cares about helping out his students. Definitely not an easy "a" class, but it isn't that hard. Test were really hard for me, but if you struggle mr, carey will help you. Class if very interesting, and you will get more than what you paid for !

His tests are hard to do good on even if you study because you have to answer the triad questions very specifically.

He's great, you'll learn a lot. Not an easy A, this class requires time and dedication. He'll literally tell you what will be in the tests, but you have to find the exact significance's with the right words or you won't get full credit. He cares and will help you though. He's exigent but hey,its college!

Mr. Carey is one of the best teachers I've ever had and I don't say that lightly. He takes the time to work with you and get you to where you need to be. His classes are always filled with discussions. Two things though: be prepared to write, A LOT, and you will work harder than you ever have, but it's possible to get a good grade! RECOMMENDED!

One of the best professors I had at Santa Fe. If you need to take a history class try and get Dr. Carey. He's hilarious and very charismatic. He does require work, but it is college after all. If you need help he is always at office hours and emails back fast. If you have questions he has clear cut answers. Attendance helps boost grade.

Professor Carey is the best Professor I have ever had. He is hilarious and entertaining, while teaching the information that is most important to the class. He assigns interesting books and although the papers are tedious and long, there are no exams. Which is the best. He is incredibly intelligent and very funny, take the class just to meet him.

I am really glad that I took Professor Carey this semester. He wants to make class enjoyable and is really good about helping out students who ask for help. For the honors class, discussion counted for 40% of our grade, so attendance was VERY important! I have not received my grades yet, but I'm fairly certain I got an A :)

Offers plenty of support and office hour times to assist you with the research paper. tests are fully based on lectures and book material, you will be provided with the terms that are on the exam so you can study before. all you have to do is take good notes and you pass the class no problem

I took professor Carey for AMH2020 honors and he is an amazing teacher. I was never bored during a lecture and he made class an overall enjoyable experience. In his class your grade is a reflective on how much effort you are willing to put in. If you participate, do your reading, and do all your assignments, you will do great!

Prof. Carey is a very entertaining history teacher; goes out of his way to make sure his students pass his class. I wouldn't recommend for summer because it is stressful and requires a lot of reading. Very tough grader on papers though, make sure your formatting is perfectly to his expectations.

Dr. Carey's lectures were always interesting and informative. I'm not a history fan, but always looked forward to his class. There were 2 tests, and one 10-page paper assigned, with a series of assignments helped you to write the paper. The only issue I had was that assignments were not graded and returned in what I felt was a timely manner.

Take the Class in Person if You Can! The assignments are difficult only if you don't write notes as he lectures. Also he allows you to record his lectures, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT! His exams are easy since its only a Mid-term and Final all based on notes on the lectures over the semester.

This was one of the most challenging classes I have ever taken, but I'm glad I took it. It's a lot of reading (skimming won't cut it) and a lot of writing and the exams are tough. However, I feel like a way better student now and better prepared for a 4yr university. I learned a lot in this class, I definitely recommend!

Professor Carey is a great professor! On the first day of class, we played hangman to all get to know each other. He really cares about his students, and wants them all to pass. Very helpful, responds to emails quickly. Quizzes are so easy. Triads may sound daunting at first, but after going to his office hours once, I received a 100 on the exam.

I usually hate history, but professor Carey made it interesting. He doesn't just tell you the facts. He tells you WHY the facts are facts. Exams are unusual, with them being in essay form, but they're essentially take-homes, and he drops one of them. Everything is online. Make sure you know how to take notes! You'll need them!

Okay so he likes to talk a lot during lectures and almost everything he says is important. Be prepared to read and write essays. His exams are paper based.

Everyone else responding to this professor has apparently never taken a difficult class before. This class is not overly hard and he is very patient with his emails. He responds quickly and does EVERYTHING he can to help you understand. For the triads, email him as much as possible He coaches you through it. There is lots of reading.

One of the coolest most understanding Profs i've taken at Santa Fe ! This is a research and analysis course though so expect to actually have to do some research! Very lenient with late work and keeps class fun and interesting. Just make sure to go to class , do your work and actually give a little bit of effort and ull be fine.

I had Professor Carey for both of my history classes and he is the best. He makes history come alive. He is fun and while yes there is a lot of homework, he works with you. He wants you to succeed and all you have to do is do what he tells you to and you will succeed.

Lectures were entertaining. There is a lot of reading as there are weekly reading quizzes online (open book though). The research paper is 10 pages, but he breaks down everything for you into sections so you're not trying to figure out when to do it all at once, plus he gives you help along the way. Great guy.

Great American History professor, currently a month into the semester and i can already tell things are going to be good. Everything is explained online. Quizzes are tough, really got to think about the answer. Lots of reading. Overall a funny yet knowledgeable professor. Expecting to get an A (working hard of course).

Professor Carey has been my favorite professor yet. AMH2035 was the hardest class I've ever taken, and this was because of the 10 page research paper. But Dr. Carey helped me every step of the way, giving amazing feedback and tips. Things like research/outlines are the majority of your grade. As long as you follow his guidelines, you WILL get an A!

Dr. Carey is a GREAT professor. It is a research and analysis class, so you do have to do A LOT of researching and note taking and finding sources. Dr. Carey is a great professor. His lectures are entertaining, and he cares about his students. He offers plenty of opportunities for extra credit, as long as you come to class. If you have to write a paper from a book, do yourself a favor and get a head start! The paper can spring up on you later in the semester, and you want time to improve it.

He is such a good teacher. Although he does lectures so you have to take notes as you talk, he'll repeat whatever you need him too. The test are essays but they're based on notes so take good ones! He's super funny and barely any assignments. Just make sure to read your book for online quizzes and take good notes and you'll be alright.

Took him online. 5 discussions with 4 responses per discussion. Weekly quizzes. Midterm and final are papers and an internet project. Responds quickly to questions. Communicates a lot. Its an easy class, just keep on track of due dates. Quizzes are only available on certain days. Would definitely take him again.

I love Professor Carey. He is absolutely hilarious, in fact I haven't gone to a class of his where I didn't smile or laugh at least once, and is the first professor of mine to really get the class to interact positively with each other. He does have you read a lot and has the occasional pop quiz, but is mostly focused on longer notes and essays.

There were three main papers we wrote throughout the course that definitely took some effort. You are expected to read the textbook and there are quizzes on it almost every week. It was a fairly difficult class but the content really made me think. He was one of my favorite professors this semester and I strongly suggest him if you like history.

He is a great professor, I took American History with him. ***I can't stress this enough, his quizzes can be difficult, read the chapter and take notes, its the only way to pass the quizzes. He doesn't do an exam, he does exam essay's, kind of a tough grader. One project for the end of the term. You'll do fine if you participate in the discussions.

When I took Professor Carey's class, I was in my first semester of college and I was so very nervous. On my first day, we played hangman and continued to do so for a few days. My class was the funniest class I've ever been in throughout my 4 semesters at Santa Fe. It took work, but being in his class will NOT disappoint.

He is truly a really great professor. The only negative thing is he does not really answer any emails. It can get frustrating but just attend his office hours that he has and he can answer anything. Your textbook is an actual book and he gives quizzes on the reading that was assigned. The quizzes are difficult but just do the reading and your fine.

While I have an A right now, it could very well change. He only now started grading and it's a week before finals. His reading quizzes are easy but his lecture quizzes require effort. Assignments are consistent with the same thing each week but he won't grade them till five months later. Grades tough on document analyses. Nice guy though :/

Professor Carey was overall a great professor. He is a great lecturer and has a true passion for history. The course itself is definitely challenging at times. The weekly quizzes are really tough and can have somewhat ambiguous answers. There is a ton of reading throughout the semester that can be exhausting at times.

Overall amazing teacher who clearly cares about how his students are doing in class. He gives good feedback whenever you need it and is readily available. Not a super difficult class, lots of reading but most of the grade comes from a paper and quizzes.

If you take this online class, you will read a lot! There will be about a quiz every week per chapter. Professor Carey also takes formatting essays seriously, so format them correctly. He gave solid essay feedback, so your grade on a paper is what you deserved. Your grade should be fine if you do well on the exams and final project.

Good at teaching but lectures very fast so get ready to write a lot of notes. 2 quizzes weekly, on lecture and textbook chapters. A strict grader on the 3 essays so make sure to double check, they count a lot towards the grade. You have to do a presentation at the end of the semester, but that part is easy and so is the final exam which is online.

Dr. Carey is very passionate about U.S. History and his lectures are very good. It is important to attend class and take notes because a lot of info on the quizzes comes from them and not the textbook. His course expectations are clear and he tells you what you need to do to get an A. He is a great professor and knows how to keep students engaged.

M. Carey is a great history professor. Attend classes and take notes: they are relevant for the weekly online quizzes that are based on the weekly textbook readings. 4 group projects in class and 3 papers (he grades harshly but does explain how you can improve). No final. Presentations at the end are very fun. Though it was hard, I'd do it again!

The class did not have any recorded lectures, instead requiring us to read the textbook and take notes, so be careful if you're considering this course for a shortened semester. Very clear instructions and feedback for assignments. Despite being a writing intensive course, the papers were very manageable.
