Do NOT take this prof if possible. Gen ed 111 is usually a pretty easy course but Chan has decided to take it uppon himself to change that. His essay's are totally unclear, and he basically makes things much harder than they need to be

DON'T TAKE THIS PROF! Other students are doing nothing in their GenEd 111 and getting A's, and I'm a good student, and struggling for a B-. He is unclear and boring as H*LL. His lectures are absolutley pointless.
This guy sucks. You don't know what he wants for the essays and he grades them like he speaks English, which is impossible to understand
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF! His lectures have absolutely nothing to do with the test. On the last test 5 out of 30 of the key terms were out of the notes. Lectures are slow and not informative. Papers are graded for grammer when his alone is terrible.
I really like Dr. Chan. He isn't hard to understand as previously stated and he's really funny. He is very knowledgeable about a lot of subjects as well. I would recommend him.
I thought his exams were difficult and the required reading for the papers I had to write were tough... but over all he's a good prof. and is very knowledgable.
His lectures are pointless. He gives out a study guide for each exam, but picks things most people wouldn't consider especially important. Other GENED111 classes are much more enjoyable and easy. I do not recommend Dr. Chan.
There are a lot of negative comments about him, it's because most of the students in gened are straight from high school and aren't used to the pace of university classes. His accent is NOT difficult to understand, many students at WSU are close minded and when they see a teacher of a different ethnicity, they assume the worst. I'd take it again.
Frickin hilarious... love the lectures
This guy is funny but yet lectures all the stuff you need to know. Says "shit" a lot and makes a lot of jokes. Readings can become tedious at times. Probably the more interesting prof i've had all semester. Entertaining.
Class is actually pretty interesting.. i like history so yeah... and this professor is way more entertaining then any of my others.. solid
I understand that GenEd is one of those worthless "canned classes" but gonig to the lecture is pretty pointless. Just get the studay guide and you're golden. Also, if you have anywhere in your essay to bash Japan and make China sound good you will cruise through the class. China is the greatest country in the world in his opinion and he's not afraid to mention it.
The lectures are pretty interesting compared to some of my high school history teachers. This one I actually pay attention because its not boring. Tests are easy because he provides a study guide that tells you exactly whats going to be on the test. He even provides the essay question in advance so you can prepare for it. Overall very easy.
He's a descent teacher with a fair grading scale, lots of lecture notes, but they're not very necessary for the class. Do the readings and know dates!

chan is the antichrist, will shoot down any comment you make in class however intelligent you believe it to be. also, his tests do follow the review guide, however, he tests on the least important parts of the chapters. loves china, hates all other ancient civilizations.
I don't find the lectures to be very relevant to the tests. The presentation of the powerpoint is an outline of what Dr. Chan is going to talk about that day, this makes taking notes difficult, and the book for that class is poorly put together, there is no index or map of the book in it at all; both of these things, the lack of quality notes, and the book having no index makes it difficult to study for tests. The class can be interesting some days. Also, Chan is a hard grader.

Teach something on the test!!!! Geez! So hard to ask? I think not!
The tests are pretty hard, 60% on an essay that he gives you two questions for ahead of time and one of them will be on the test. However, I hated the idea of another ancient civ class, but he makes it different by focusing mostly on religions.
not that hard... and he doesn't monitor tests, so if you have any common sense, ya just cheat it. works every time
this class was interesting, his powerpoints were just outlines so you had to take other notes. His tests were hard and made you think for yourself instead of regurgitating information, but he was a fairly easy grader. a fairly good professor.
He is very unclear in his lectures and doesnt teach most of the material that ends up on the tests. His tests are hard as hell too.
He is an easy grader, but he is an awful teacher. His powerpoints only show the basic outlines of his lecture, so they dont really have a point. His tests suck, only essay.
He is probably one of the worst teachers I have ever had. He is very arrogant and tries to make his tests as hard as possible. He spends most of the lecture staring down at his notes because he doesnt know what he is talking about.
I totally agree with above comments...I was stuck with him by taking Hist 275, and Gened 110. GOSH i hated his classe, WORSTE EXAMS+ LECTURES...want u to think like a philoshper.
The worst teacher I have ever had. He feels the need to show his power as a teacher and make the tests ridiculously hard! Thinks his class is the only one ppl are taking. Tests are not related to lecture material. Get out of class if possible
I found that he was very easy to talk to and he graded test pretty easly. I got an A in this class while I only was able to pull of a B in 110.
He knows his stuff, but HE KNOWS he knows his stuff and it's really annoying when you try to ask a question, he pretty much makes you look like a fool.
He is a bit over dramatic about things and I don't like his pauses during lectures while he reads from his notes (which he does a lot). Writing assignments are fairly easy, tests are difficult...make sure to study.
Pretty bad professor. His lectures were boring, and the tests had nothing to do with them. Luckily, he handed out study guides before the test. Study that very well and you'll be ok. He likes to mess with students a lot and doesn't have an open mind about anything.
he is a terrible teacher. lectures are boring, tests are hard and have nothing to do with the lectures, dont go if possible. he thinks he is 100% right on everything he says and he is only right baout half the time. he nce told me something face to face and then marked me off on a test for saying it.
He is a nice teacher who r always willing to hlep you if u go and talk to him. i got an C at begining, but i talked to him, he's so nice and help me a lot, finally i got an A-, his test is hard and u have to read a lot form the testbook if u wanna pass it. anyway. he's awesome, and i love him so much.
he is a fun guy
Lectures are amazing. Very knowledgeable, fun. Tests and essay questions are quite difficult and not worded in a clearly understandable way. I have taken four classes with Prof Chan and highly recommend him.
His class is a joke you would have to be brain dead to fail his classes. Write the papers and its a breeze. Just make sure you turn everything in.
By far the worst professor I have had at WSU! Not only is his class a joke, but he is one of the rudest and arrogant people I have ever met. He makes is students feel inferior to him, which makes people not even want to go to class. Horrible, Horrible professor.
You really dont have to go to class alot. His study guides are exactly what is on the test. Bad thing though, there alot of papers, about 5 a semester. Class is either fun, or boring, depends on what he is lecturing about that day. Nice guy. Easy! Honestly, if you fail..you're retarded.
Dont have to pay attention to lectures because test is essay based and details are not relevant to what you need to know. Just undertstand the big picture. Essays are short and if you have barely any knowledge on the subject and are not just a lazy freshman in a ged/ed (anyone that says hes hard is either lazy or dumb)you can atleast get a B
Go to class, you never know when he's gonna take attendance. Power points everyday, but he keeps them interesting. Nice guy, thinks highly of himself, but you just have to laugh along with it. He's a good prof! (lots of writing easy tests)
Wow. Chan really could care less about the students. He needs a reality check, and needs to realize that WE are paying HIM to teach us and have our grades available, have our papers graded, and have a clear and concise study guide at the very least. Take lots of notes because he doesn't post anything online- the final is over everything! AWFUL PROF
he is a nice guy, tells some jokes!! but his class was boring and the tests are dumb!!
Was a joke couldn't understand anyhting he was saying
Horrible teaching, does not care about students, boring, condescending, and he even put the wrong grade on my report card! Such a pain in the ass to fix!
Chan's an AWFUL professor. His lectures are boring and random, but that doesn't matter because I couldn't understand his broken English/Chinese accent anyway. He IS condescending and DOESN'T care about the students. He's always in a hurry after class so your questions are never answered. I did all the work and got an A- though : ]
Got me interested in History and to become a History major. Very interesting and fun class- he's easy to understand and makes class very fun to go to! Difficult Prof, but fair and honest.Love his style of teaching.
Dude, just read the book, study and you'll do fine. Big class, doesn't have time to really get to know students, which it be expected. When you talk to him after class, he's very nice. Don't even worry about taking notes, and there's a lot of extra credit. I recommend this teacher.
his class wasn't bad. he's a hard grader but his TA's do it all except one paper. my TA was incredibly easy and gave EC tests with questions like "what is your favorite dessert?". Tests are easy as he gives you a review with all the info and both the essay questions (he picks one so if you do both before hand you'll have no problems)
he is a horrible teacher, study guides are so broad and help nada on the tests, and his lectures are of no help when it comes to test time. this teacher sucks
Chan is awesome! He makes class interesting and fosters class discussion. At the same time, Chan will totally tell it like it is - so if there's someone talking and it's obvious that they're being pompous or stupid: he talks back. That said he's a prof who encourages students to think critically.
Unless you are super excited about taking GenEd DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! For being such a general class he makes this class hard, and he for sure knows it. His tests are ridiculous and as interesting as his lectures are, they ultimately mean nothing.
i hated this class. He makes fun of you if you raise your hand to offer a comment, and is just very rude. Hoenstly hated this class
Chan is VERY fair IF he sees that U try- if not, he could care less.Love his lectures & they R understandable-have helped me in other classes. I hated history B4 I took this class from him.He only gives crap to those paying no attn. in class & to those with no respect.Gr8 Prof.!His class IS hard,BUT he is knowledgeable, humorous & NO prob. w/accent
Loved him! Makes lectures entertaining and interesting. He is very sarcastic and some people take him too literally thus causing them to be offended or make them think he is mean and rude. Will definitely be trying to take another class with him later in college.
AMAZING PROF!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVED this course! Not only is his lectures interesting, he is cares about the students very much. If you show that you care, he is VERY helpful! I would definitely take another course with him in the future.
Innless you want to spend way to much time studying for GenEd, do NOT take Dr. Chan?s gened. His lectures are interesting and he knows his stuff, however his tests and papers are really hard and time consuming. This guy?s much harder than another gened teachers, so innless your really interested in gened, don?t take Chan.
His tests and quizes are ridiculous. There's no point in even attending lectures because everything is out of the book. One of the worst teachers I have ever had.
The notes we take in class are irrelevant to the exams. Sometimes he will throw in questions from our notes, but most of the time we are taking notes that are unimportant and useless. Which makes coming to class pointless. He is also not a pleasant man to learn from or associate with. He has a very limited understanding or respect for students.
he is the worst teacher ever. so rude and not helpful at all! he wouldn't let me miss class without getting penalized when i had to go to a FUNERAL! even the TA had no idea where info on the test was coming from.
it is not because we are close minded or freshman. it is because he asks a question and never answers it. he rambles about pointless information that does not help us on the test what so ever. he is reluctant to help anyone who asks for it and his emails consist of one word answers. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Chan cannot speak english. his accent is sort of hard to understand. the grammar in his powerpoints is horrible. you HONESTLY don't need to come to class unless you want extra credit on fridays. there are some quizes but the tests are strictly from the book and so are the papers. i would not recommend this teacher for anyone.
Okay, his accent really isn't that bad, it's actually kind of funny (completely understandable, he just can't pronounce plurals). Coming to class is almost pointless since everything on tests and quizes is from the book. Tests aren't bad but the quizes are impossible.
He is very rude and doesnt answer questions during the "review" session. If you have a question to ask him after class he will give you a look that makes you feel stupid. He rambles in his lectures and if you take his class, READ THE BOOK. basically where you get ALL the information. Luckily I had a good TA, so I learned more from him than Chan.
Chan is an AWESOME Prof!He may be very hard, but his classes & essays have helped me A LOT in my other classes. The info. is NOT all in the books;u have to pay attn!Tests/quizzes aren't impossible-just study a lot!He only respects those who respect him!Taken 3 classes f/him-I RECOMMEND HIM- TRUST ME, IT WILL HELP w/OTHER CLASSES- they will seem easy!
He can be condescending and rude to people who particiapte in class and give an answer he doesn't agree with. Not very helpful, and the class lectures don't really pertain to anything. Class time is extreme death by powerpoint. If you understand key points and concepts and can write you will do fine.
Chan is an incredibly great teacher! Coming to class is really interesting, he really makes the subject interesting. The test are nearly impossible to get an A on but if you study exactly from the textbook you'll pass with a B easy.
DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THIS PROFESSOR. His quizzes are ridiculous. His tests are ridiculous. Class is boring as hell. If you ask a question, he is mean about it. He literally makes what should be an easy A class to be the hardest thing ever. All my friends are getting A's and Gened is their easiest class....NOT CHAN'S!
He is not a good professor. He doesn't tell you what to write specifically for papers. Rude when you ask questions. He trys to be funny but it doesn't work out. Yes, he knows a lot but his lectures are useless and spacy. They don't go along with anything we are tested on or quized. Quizes are difficult to pass. Memorize the book, or you will fail.
Yes he is very hard but that's because he makes you read the textbook. His notes seem unclear because he wants you to read the book. His exams extremely hard if you do not study. Overall, he is funny and i do like history and the class just not the tests.
His lectures have little to do with what's in the book so anything you don't understand in one won't be clarified in the other. His tests only touch on the vast amount of information he expects you to know, so you have to memorize everything to have any chance on the tests, and the essay questions are useless. He's very unapproachable outside class
People complain about his tests and his quizzes but if you read the book you are golden. I am not an A student but I did really well in his class because I read the text book. I didn't even study notes before his quizzes or tests I just read, it only took me a couple hours. I like him! He assigns less papers than other gen ed profs, I like him!
Most ridiculous class ever. Lectures are mandatory, attendance is taken but they have nothing to do with texts, quizzes, essays, finals, or anything you need to know for that class. Chan is impossible to approach with questions and is rude. Seriously switch teachers or drop the class unless you want to ruin your gpa.
This class is terrible. You can't understand what he's saying half the time and you are required to go but the tests and essays hardly have anything to do with what he teaches in lecture.
NEVER TAKE HIM! Hates his job and takes it out on all his students. Impossible quizes. Tests are easy, but quizzes bring you down tons.
don't recommend
His exams make his lectures seem worthless. He doesn't have actual questions. A million vocab of ancient things that you need to know in detail. Tests are ridiculous. Papers are easy. But does not make enough of an influence on the overall grade.
Everything in his lectures is everything that won't be in his exams. He expects every chapter to be read and he emphasizes the unimportant things in class. Horrible.
HORRIBLE.
From what I can tell, Chan is one of the more challenging GenEd profs. I got a good grade, but it took a lot of work. His lectures are useless, but attendance is mandatory. He doesn't capture the interest of his students well. I recommend reading your textbook carefully and making friends with your TA to do well in this class.
worst class i took all semester. nothing he says in his lectures is on any of the tests or quizzes. taking notes is pointless, and the tests are impossible. i suggest you switch professors now before you have to endure a semester of hell.
Just... awful. Don't do gen ed with him. You won't learn a single thing, and lectures are a waste of time, but mandatory. Exam questions are completely ridiculous too and expect to memorize a lotttt of dates and random years as well as crazy names. It's definitely a confusing class.
I would never recommend taking Chan for any GenEd class for a number of reasons. The notes that he has us take in class do absolutely nothing to help out on his tests. Also, whenever he asked us questions during lecture, he would completely destroy students ideas. I honestly felt that I had to teach myself everything throughout the semester.
A lot of bad comments from probably freshmen. He's hard because he requires you to actually think. True, the lectures don't really lay out exam material. But his lectures give you a broad understanding of how history is connected. Not a class for those who want everything laid out for them because they still haven't grown up
He did not make the tests from the lectures at all. 20% off on the writing assignment for not having the right # of sentences in a paragraph, DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Just tried getting some help on a paper due tomorrow. When I asked him how to cite my sources he tells me "Follow instruction for citation on the hand out." I read the hand out and it didn't help. Thats why I took the time to email him three times! But whatever, I'll just wing it.
WORSE professor ever. Avoid taking him. Lectures are useless.
Solid Professor, I personally liked him even though many did not. Clearly a veteran teacher who knows his stuff, lectures are great, he is funny. Make sure you check your MARGINS and CITATIONS, I got nailed 10% off a paper for bad margins.
easy, suck up to the ta and your fine
Don't answer questions in class. There is never a right answer because his answers are always better. He assigns online "Connect" questions which are both pointless and EXTREMELY time consuming and only force you to read the text book. Lectures are irrelevant. His study guides tell you what you need to know. Avoid.
Don't pick multiple choice tests. He gives the class an option. everything is out of the book: He disagrees with your comments in class even though he asks for your input. Power points are interesting but not useful. Online assignments are twice a week and very time consuming. He is a decent professor.
Sit in the back and sleep. His lectures don't have anything to do with the homework or exams so if you do the Connect online homework you will do fine on his mid-term essays and exams.
His tests are quite hard, and the Connect online assignments are time-consuming, but he knows his stuff and he expects a great deal from you as a student, and that's why so many students are complaining. This isn't a typical WSU-level course, especially for Gen Ed. I would recommend this teacher if you want a challenge and to be held accountable.
He knows what he's talking about going to class was mandtory but in the end paid off. If he sees your dedication he is more likely to help you out. Met with him at the begin of the semester. Talked to him a few times after class all helped with understanding his teaching style and help me know what i needed to do to pass his class. tests are hard.
If you have to take gened, definitly try and take it with someone else. Attendance is mandatory but all his lecture material comes straight from the book. For midterms and finals you have to memorize enough info to write 1 of 2 essays (you dont know which) and about 30 other paragraphs if you want to do good. He is also not helpful outside class
Chan was boring, but tried to be funny sometimes. He was kind of annoying. I HATED this class. He has really strict rules but doesn't follow them. This professor kind of sucks but there were no tests and the required books ended up not being required. I BS's this entire class and ended up with an 'A'.
Do not take this class with Chan if you do not like talking in class. He will humiliate you if he does not agree with what you are saying and makes everyone talk. He can be funny at times but is overall rude.
Chan is a talker. He is a little annoying and takes attendance. No final if no one in the class mentions one. Tons of extra credit opportunities. Weekly quizzes that are hard if you don't have someone help you. Final essay was easy. Overall, I would recommend Chan.
Hated this class. He treated it like a 400 level class instead of a 100 level. Lots of work and online reading. Online quizes were difficult. His lectures are boring and pointless because there is no final. I would not take this class.
Do not take this class with Chan. I earned all A's this semester except for this class. Treated like a 400 level course will little room to improve your grade. Overly critical on grading, non-compromisable outside of lecture, and overly strict. Halfway through the semester the average class grade was below a C. Good luck if you have him.
He takes attendance, and is worth points. He has super hard reading quizzes every week. Lots of essays (worth majority of your grade). He grades essays extremely hard. Lectures are extremely boring and long. I hate having to go to this class.
He puts attends as a priority, and is super strict about phones. If you are a bad writer don't take him because the majority of his class is writing. Overall WOULD NOT recommend.
This was one of the more difficult classes I took this semester. Chan is not a bad professor, however he can be a little rude to students at times. There are a lot of assignments with this course, and his grading is pretty tough. If you work hard, you'll have no problem passing with a good grade. Attendance is mandatory.
For me personally, Chan was very unapproachable. Some of the comments he would make during class were very rude, and it seemed like he only cared about helping very few students. If you love reading and are a writer, you'll do fairly well unless he doesn't like what you talk about. Lectures are pointless, but attendance is mandatory.
Rude to studentes, the lectures are pointless but he takes attendance so you have to go.
Personally i really enjoyed his class. his humor was dry but made the class enjoyable and for the most part, even though i fell asleep alot, the class was really interesting. quizzes every sunday
Lectures are pointless and the quizzes every Sunday are ridiculous. You literally need a team of people to get a good grade on them. He takes attendance so you have to go. There are debates in class that are mandatory to talk in. One of the worst classes I've ever taken.
Lectures are so long and so pointless. Dread going to class. No exams all papers. My TA was the only reason I survived. Would not take this class with Chan.
This class was terrible. The things he teaches are not relevant to your grade but he still takes attendance. If you ask a question he makes you feel stupid and he is just a terrible person. Get out if you can.
This class was garbage. The lectures usually had nothing to do with the assignments and the grading criteria was not clear. The TA was amazing and the only reason I passed this class. Attendance was required and lectures were a drag. I WOULD NOT recommend taking this class with Chan.
I personally really enjoyed Dr. Chan. His humor is a tad crude sometimes, but he was always nice to me. I also found both him and my TA very helpful both over email and office hours. This class is a lot of writing and quizzes, so you do have to put in quite a bit of effort for a good grade. You also have to go to class every lecture.
Interesting teacher
A lot of pointless work, hard to sit through the class without falling asleep or wanting to leave, hard assignments and even when you have an essay due he'll add a quiz that's due the same night, all is due at 10pm not 12am.
Lectures are boring and hard to stay awake in. Having a quiz and paper due every weekend is the norm. Don't forget to check the syllabus often because nothing is put on the calendar on blackboard. If you are not on top of things the first couple weeks it will cost you dearly.
lectures felt long and sort of boring and what he taught rarely related to the homework. Lots of essays and weekly reading quizzes. I was failing for most of the year but i did sort of decent on the final essay which brought my grade up. Also, i participated in class and made sure he knew who i was so he bumped me up to a B for my final grade.
well his lectures are boring, his TA's grade tough, and attendance is mandatory. also, he spews facts that have little evidence to back them up. the worst part about his lectures is that he pulls paragraphs from Wikipedia articles and pastes them onto a powerpoint. I'm actually sad this guy is licensed to teach.
History 105 with Chan is the only course I have ever withdrawn from. There is good reason as to why he is one of the lowest rated WSU professors on ratemyprofessor. Take this with another professor if you can.
So many papers; can be funny; lecture heavy; respected; lots of paper; more than 3 absence is gonna fail you.
Harder than other HIST105 class, tough grader, extra credit, don't post notes, must attend class to pass, helpful, tough love, available, highly recommend to meet him during office hours, must buy books, books are cheap and thin.
He has a crude sense of humor and says what he is thinking. Class is entirely his lectures and almost weekly online quizzes that have nothing to do with the lectures. This class sucks. If you can take another professor you should.
The toughest grader on papers. Did not get higher than a C+ on any paper despite visiting office hours. Weekly reading quizzes that are unrelated to lecture, and are also extremely difficult. Don't take this class.
The toughest grader on papers. Did not get higher than a C+ on any paper despite visiting office hours. Weekly reading quizzes that are unrelated to lecture, and are also extremely difficult. Don't take this professor there's an easier way.
Chan was a nice guy, but not a great Prof. His weekly quizzes were extremely difficult and generally unrelated to the slide show, as well as not putting slide shows up to see online after class. Lots of reading in PDF's for quizzes and a lot of papers. Grading is all based on the TA you have for History 105. He does offer a lot of extra credit
Discipline is the key. You get the grade you worked for. Final paper was very easy for me. I spent a lot of time doing my LRAs and the essay outline. Therefore, I barely have to do anything for my final paper as I only have to put my outline together. Yes, there is weekly quiz on the readings and in class notes, YEP! It is TOUGH.
Professor Roger Chan is my least favorite professor I have ever had the misfortune to take a course from. His writing prompts are unclear, he both speaks and writes in inaccurate English, and deliberately bends information and opinions to show that he is never wrong. He's not a history teacher, he merely repeats the opinions of those he follows.
Professor Chan, despite being knowledgeable in his field, is a professor who is boring and dull in class. Attendance is very important and participation is critical as well. In addition, notes are not necessary, as they don't have much correlation with the rest of the class. TAs grade majority of the assignments.
This guy thinks he's always right, but just skews what the conversation is to fit his opinions. Always takes attendance, but his slide shows are completely unrelated to the reading quizzes every week. Would not suggest taking him if you want a decent grade for the work you put in. Take anyone else
Hes only concerned with a couple kids passing, generally rude and unapproachable. Lectures are mandatory but have absolutely nothing to do with the quizzes or papers. As a junior transfer from uw, this class was harder than a 300 level history course in Seattle. Whack.
Do not take HIST105 with this professor if you have a choice. The lectures have nothing to do with your grade in the class yet he takes attendance every day. All the work that has to do with your grade is online. You must do the readings to do when on the online quizzes. If you have any questions email the TA because you wont get a clear answer.
While Chan can be funny and give good lectures, his lectures have nothing to do with the homework. You don't have tests, instead your grade is based on 5 reading quizzes, 4 essays, 4 library research assignments, and 1 final paper. The dumbest things are his quizzes which are quite difficult and in general he's a really tough grader
This is a hard class bu you can get a decent grade by always going to class because it is a good portion of the grade and grouping up to take the really hard quizzes. Chan has his far left political agenda and that's all he talks about in class is his crappy politics with no consideration to both sides and doesn't want you to critically think.
Stereotypical liberal university professor. Forces his ideas onto students, doesn't allow opposing view points, and just overall a really bad professor. In my few years at WSU he was easily the worst, and if you talk to others you will soon realize his reputation here. Did I mention his far left agenda the entire class is based on? Have fun!
I really hated this class. The lectures were so pointless and did not relate to really anything. I failed every single reading quiz even though I asked for help I could not seem to get the answers right. Only good part about him is if you go talk to him and he knows who you are throughout the semester, he might bump your grade up.
Worst class I've ever taken. Whole lecture he would ramble about pointless things that weren't relevant and half the time nobody knew what he was talking about. He's very strict about grading and rude if you try to ask for help. The online quizzes are hard even if doing the readings and the LRA's are a joke. Also the essay topics are really dumb.
Chan left for 3 weeks in the middle of the semester. His sub is alright, the powerpoints are just painfully boring. Take reading quizzes with a group of people. Talk to TAs about LRA as they will be the ones grading it.
The lectures are essentially pointless. Everything you need to pass can be found online or in rubrics for assignments. If youre doing a research paper, MAKE SURE YOUR TOPIC IS APPROVED!!! The entire semester you focus on one single paper, so make sure he is okay with it. Lots of quizzes and essays. A very time consuming class.
His lectures are mostly him rambling on and on, but they do not really matter for anything in that class. Reading quizzes every 3 weeks as well as a paper due every 3 weeks. The class focuses on one final history paper on a topic that you choose. Make sure it is pre-approved and you will do fine in this class. Go to class, do not miss assignments.
Professor Chan was terrible. There is either an essay, LRA, or reading quiz every single week. Way more assignments than anyone else I have talked to with different professors in history 105. The reading quizzes are virtually impossible if you are taking it on your own, no matter how many notes you take on all the readings. DO NOT TAKE!
I actually really enjoyed Professor Chan. We have an Essay, LRA, or reading quiz every week, but it isn't bad. You get seven days to finish the assignment and the LRAs just build off each other. If you try, the class isn't bad. He's actually quite fun if you get to know him. Just email the TA your work prior because he grades them. It's not bad
He is an awesome man! Everything is very straightforward and to the point. You will have one assignment due every Sunday. As long as you manage your time well, you should be fine. Also his TA's are very helpful.
Dr. Chan provides enjoyable lectures for the times you are in class, however a significant portion of the lecture is not helpful for the assignments given, and end up not being very relevant to the class. Assignments are ambiguous, and the grading is harsh. The library research assignments are hard, and he does not provide hardly any guidance AVOID
Terrible at giving instruction, great at assigning exasperating research papers. Instruction schoolwork was almost never related to subject of course.
